Hey there, golf aficionados! Welcome to another update from the world of golf! Today, we delve into the exciting details of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, the sixth edition hosted by the PGA Tour at Detroit Golf Club. This year’s event is gearing up with an intriguing lineup, despite being statistically the least star-studded in the tournament’s history. Stay tuned for the latest Golf PGA TOUR NEWS!

The registration deadline passed on Friday night, and as expected, no significant last-minute commitments were made. This is primarily due to the tournament’s placement on this year’s schedule. Many top golfers have been on a three-week streak, participating in high-profile events like the Memorial and the Travelers Championship, all leading up to the U.S. Open. Consequently, many elite players are taking a much-needed break, preparing for the British Open next month.

Hey everyone, golf enthusiasts! Welcome to another exciting update from the world of Golf PGA TOUR NEWS. Today, we delve into a groundbreaking decision that’s set to reshape the landscape of professional golf, centered around none other than the legendary Tiger Woods.

In a move that has reverberated across the golfing universe, Jay Monahan, the head honcho at the PGA Tour, recently announced a historic decision granting Tiger Woods a lifetime exemption to all Signature Events starting from 2025. This unprecedented move comes as the PGA Tour introduces a new ‘Lifetime Achievement’ category, cementing Woods’ status as a perennial presence at these prestigious tournaments.

Cameron Young, ranked No. 23 in the world golf rankings, is the highest-ranked player set to compete in Detroit from June 27-30. Young finished tied for second place in 2022, the same year Tony Finau claimed victory. Joining him on the course is Tom Kim, currently ranked No. 26 globally, marking his ninth consecutive week of competitive play. This year’s lineup includes only a handful from the top 50 in the world golf standings, a first in Rocket Mortgage Classic history. Notably, no top-10 players will be teeing off this year.

Among the 156 players, defending champion Rickie Fowler, Will Zalatoris, 2019 victor Nate Lashley, and 2021 winner Cam Davis will be the main attractions. Also in the mix are local talents Ryan Brehm from Traverse City and Kyle Martin from Grosse Pointe Woods. Martin secured his spot by winning the 2023 Michigan PGA Professional Championship, marking his second consecutive appearance at the Rocket Mortgage Classic after missing the cut in his PGA Tour debut last year.

PGA Tour hopeful Michael Thorbjornsen is making his second tour appearance in Detroit after his debut at the Travelers. He turned pro earlier this month, adding to the anticipation. A standout contender is 15-year-old prodigy Miles Russell from Florida, who has earned a sponsor’s exemption and is making waves in the golf world. Other exemptions went to Neal Shipley, this year’s top amateur at both the Masters and U.S. Open, who recently turned professional, and Jimmy Walker, the 2016 PGA Championship victor.

Another slot is up for grabs at the 36-hole John Shippen Invitational this Sunday, and the final four spots will be determined from Monday’s 18-hole qualifier at The Orchards in Washington Township. Initially, the lineup boasted a dozen players from the top 50 in the world rankings, but early commitments from Thomas Detry and Austin Eckroat fell through.

Tickets for the Rocket Mortgage Classic rounds start at $65, with free entry for kids under 15 accompanied by a paying adult. Active and retired military personnel can also enjoy complimentary tickets. The final round on Sunday at the John Shippen, Tuesday’s AREA 313 Celebrity Scramble and youth clinic, and Wednesday’s pro-am are free for everyone, including parking.
