e e e day six of the 2024 Australian Open is under or it’s about to be underway and men’s fors action is what we’re bringing you here on ringside live Val Furbo here with you once again and joining me for his AO debut in 2024 is the one and only ringside Nick Nick hind joins me how are you well good morning Val great to be here with you brother beautiful day here I know you’re freezing but I’m loving it the beautiful sunshine is out we’ve got a great game ahead of us and we’ve also got the great Andrew howy here with us today too we sure do he’s uh he’s come back for more after a session yesterday Andrew howy the events manager at BS Australia who’s run this tournament to absolute perfection how are you good Fellas I I don’t know about the great but I’m definitely happy to be here this morning at uh broad Beach bows Club to deliver some uh exciting action of the for sectional play yeah very much looking forward to this Kevin Robinson Mark Tonkin Steven trouser and Daryl Stein up against Al Watson muso Holland Leon van boxal and Pat holahan they are your teams this morning it’s going to be a brilliant contest the South Australian team up against the New Zealand team and Nick’s been doing a little bit of reconnaissance work this morning ahead of this match looking to uh looking to get a little bit of information about them so what did you find out well look I found out that one of the teams has come from New Zealand I didn’t I didn’t have to do much to find that out the the accents gave it away very quickly a few of them have been here for a while though there’s a number of the players have made it through in the peirs competition there’s one player who’s through in in the singles so we’ll we’ll let you know that presently because the Bell has just gone but I’ve also found out what balls they’re using and Val you’ll be very pleased about this I’ve put it on the seconds to make sure that they stay clear of our cameras so we’ll see how good they the seconds are at doing that and viewers I’m sure you’ll let us know in the comments as you’re watching today if anybody’s getting in the road yep I’m sure they will don’t you worry so it’s great to have everybody’s company wherever you’re watching from around the world and that is where the jack is sitting and on a bad length to start proceedings here the two leads Kevin Robinson and Al Watson there are a lot of players on the green this morning something that we haven’t really seen too much yeah massive day of bowls here at Broad Beach Bowls Club we have four greens of men’s sectional play in The Fours uh so incredible lots and lots of Bowlers great to see from all around Australia and obviously internationally it’s um it’s a big day here I reckon we just had a bit of we had a wrong bias on the rink next to us we saw a bowl getting awfully close close to our first one here as we can see the green running really good first thing this morning once again you can see the ball drawing nicely back to the center line there so this is Kevin Robertson here for the South Australian team he’s got the blue and darker blue dreamline xgs that’s a much better ball good correction there the two leads are both in Red so we’ll have to be on our game to make sure but the uh the Kiwi team is predominantly in red this morning so we’ll let you know who it is Al Watson here he’s also got dreamline xgs it’s very close again here L yeah great shooting you’d be happy with that start little bit of Breeze this morning out of out of the West har what’s that going to do for the bows coming down on this rink in this direction particularly yeah so probably at this stage it’s not going to do a great deal um the breeze isn’t too strong at the moment um but one thing obviously when Breeze is around the morning we know probably wasn’t that much of a due on the greens this morning so they’ll be running very quick to start with um for those that have been tuning in at home on green 4 here at Broad Beach the green has been running spectacularly over the last few days so I’d expect no difference this morning but um as we know at Broad Beach and especially on this green um they do turn lovely so you do have to have to take your grass and let your bow do the work uh so yeah it should be a great matchup here no reason why I think both teams will perform great this morning as we see another good shot there by maso yes so moo straight into the action there also pauland and I favor probably an early three here to the New Zealand combination that’s Mark tonen out in the high line on the backand he’s got down giving a friend to what could be fourth shot stev hung that one out pretty high yeah be interesting to see what they try and do here just going to swap him on over onto the forehand he G him a couple of options it’s tough shot here to try and draw around the two two of the top top of the screen which are probably counting he’s very close just needs a sit there a nasty hole there Andrew going to go through yeah that’s the problem it was not much margin for error there it would had to be a absolutely cracking draw shot to to get the shot on that hand with that white perhaps going you know playing through those front balls a little bit and and getting a result but yeah it could have been the option but like it’s it’s one of those things it’s end one it’s it’s good to try and let your team members settle into a a drawing pattern and get the feel for the green as we see a great shot coming in here I think now that hand’s blocked I would be electing to play weight down the forehand he can remove the balls Jack in the ditch so the call is white by the look of it but staying um stay on his forehand the left-handed forehand that’s it just to try and confuse his Nick um but yeah the the call was to play through the balls try and S and stay he’s on a tile line this time but just the speed might might punish there yeah it’s the problem he’s he made a little bit worse so to speak but um there is still a shot down there on the forehand so New Zealand will be looking to try well the New Zealand team will be looking to try and just draw a shot here if he sneaks past the jack is a good result at the bottom of screen this is when you have to be so spot on with your colors and knowing who is two when there’s 16 balls on a rink yeah it’s a good shot there by Leon he’s um skips asked him to go past the head yeah so he’s it’s just gone out of our camera but Val might be able to find get a little bit of a wider shot find The Wider shot there cuz we’ve got the yeah I think so Val I think there’ll be weight uh from from Daryl here so I’d be um scanning back a little bit but um darl I believe he’s played for South Australia for the State team for many years um so been a good player for a long time that’s bit of a wider angle for you there yeah yes of course Loy Williams not on the cameras today so bear with me well he’s uh he’s CAU our blo and he’s decided to draw the shot all right it’s good to have a bit of a good look anyway he misses the front ball he’s not far away good effort well that does make it harder though now Andrew to get through the hole I mean there is the blue bowl at the back there that Leon van box will put back the the South TR team still have the the best backwood there so we might see see Pat just looked at add on here could be three could be four could be a few more it’s it’s hard to see we’re down the the far end of the green here so we’re at the Western end and they’re playing towards the ocean towards the east many different colors of course we’ve got 15 ends of play this morning instead of the 18 of PE yeah so P be just trying to draw the shot he can play either hand here has got his own balls coming up on the back hand he’s looking to try and get inside the um the tricolor Blue Bowl the bottom bottom right of screen speed’s excellent here yeah just doesn’t run the journey but good effort could only be two here Nick just looking at the at the good shot there from valet um looks like maybe only two to the New Zealand combination at this stage yes the uh the tighter angle makes it look look better and The Wider angle that’s not so good let’s see where this one comes around this might not be a bad effort might just dip under a chance here now for uh for Pat he can he can for to just arrive down the back end turns his own balls up if he can sit the the blue ball at the bottom of screen he might be holding more at like two three four shots potentially so um just a nice confident confident shot here down on the back end Leon indicated you need another meter clear run he close needs a bit of his own ball he’s done it work well what a great shot brilliantly done so what is the end total let’s have a look they’re going it survey I feel like we’ll get a lot of measures in force with 16 balls out on the rink so that’s there’s been a soft signal of about four I think wow the front ones do count that’s um I wonder if by sitting that blue ball it’s it’s brought the front ones in it’s a big score to open the match this is massive for the New Zealand combination would be something special three sessions today of course all same times as what we’ve had and I think I saw a signal there was it three or four there not sure Val saw a little hand signal but we’ll go with go with I think I think it was four at least I’m pretty they y That’s a four but the seconds will do the right thing they’ll update the scoreboard for us and let us know we don’t have the benefits of of having the mark As we’ve had some great markers so far this week Val I’ve been tuning in we have we’ve had uh one that I’ve enjoyed watching was um not your man Joe franzy again no not Joe but um uh Flur Ballard from St John’s Park he’s come all the way up from Sydney and he’s been absolutely Sensational first ball sent down Al just running through a little bit there it was five Val five I’ll go and uh and update that so 5-0 to the Holan New Zealand team from the Clyde Bowling Club do we know where claud’s located and now pushing up into the wind well we we have the technology Here Andrew I’m sure we can find out I’ll do some research our viewers are often our best researchers they might be able to tell us that wind is chilly this morning this is one of the colder mornings that we’ve had here at the 2024 AO yeah we’re pushing up into this Breeze now it’s uh it’s fairly strong you might be able to hear it through our our microphones we are doing our best but it’s uh it’s a reasonably strong Breeze out of the West as we see great correction there by Kevin Robertson sort of Clyde Bowling Club sort of very very south in New Zealand not not as South as in viago where we’ve had a couple of people come from this week well there you go so for those from Clyde Bowling Club they’d be finding this absolutely beautiful oh this is beautiful unlike Val febo who is shivering he’s called for the beanie Andrew how’s just stepped out he might be going to put on some long johns I should have brought a beanie but the other day I got sunburned Nick have a look at that oh dear so I’ve never seen one of those on another man before what sunburn no you’re looking you’re looking all right Val you’ll that’ll turn into a beautiful Tan in night time I’m sure I hope so I tend to just peel so now Mark hongen here he’s played a great ball that’s number one so we’ve got a lot of viewers already watching on this morning Peter Rose Roger web not a bad hul for the first end no certainly not Fiona Hall from majer bar the queen of majer bar got the great man Mr Adams I don’t know if I’d Paul Clive the great man but some he’s got some runs on the board Val he’s got runs on the board and he’s been playing and playing well I’ve been has got through in his singles peirs just missed out by six shots let’s see how he goes in the fours he’s got a pretty good team Nigel Thompson watching from Central ataro and Roger web joining us as well good to have everybody’s company from wherever they are watching so Andrew’s come back he’s got the long johns on now he’s he’s really suffering that the camera boy he’s G sof I don’t think I don’t think I’ve I Haven I’ve not seen Andrew Howe in Long pants much it’s got be definitely don’t have the long pants on I can tell you that um but uh it is a ra fresh this morning with that breeze coming across where we’re sitting horrible doesn’t doesn’t help we’re sitting in the shade as well so um but anyway I’m sure there’s some colder parts of Australia at the moment feeling the temperatur so we’re pretty lucky where we are well we determined while you were going that the Clyde bowling club’s right down south on the south island of New Zealand so they’ll be loving it here yeah this be like a summer’s day for them fantastic as we see a great shot there by well I think that’s Steve is it yes Steven sorry I should say great shot Steven so he’s made a pair there that’s the two red balls behind Jack both belong to the South Australian team and we’re seeing a little bit more positivity here just wanted to rock the edge of those two good effort on all right so the call is to draw another shot well early morning it’s hard to tell on the cameras but the the Two bows immediately behind Jack do belong to the South Australian Stein ridal team and then third shot is uh about 10:00 there Harry up the line for the holahan and Clyde Bowling Club team from New Zealand and I think he’s indicated he’s going to be pretty direct at that I saw the hand signal yeah so traditionally um I guess New Zealand base players are are pretty aggressive players Nick due to uh the speed of their greens uh the greens over there are very fast so it’s sort of a a draw drive a lot of the time so I’d be interesting to see the tactics they uh employ for this match but um it could be arriving down the forehand perhaps or is he sticking to the back end yeah just a little arriving shot trying to get around the short ball and sit the shot balls but he’s just out on a high line there now coming back this way you’ve probably spoken about it a little bit over the last few days Val but you know all the renovations that they’ve had here at Broad Beach bows Club it’s probably changed how this rink plays a little bit particularly with the wind it used to come ripping through yeah not not sure mate I haven’t um I haven’t played AB bro for a long time and yeah I’m not sure with the new deck and the massive Renovations they’ve done what effect it could have um but yeah obviously we’re the furthest rink away on on at Broad Beach venue right near the soccer Ral so um it traditionally is open to the wind um coming across the field there but uh I’m sure the players will handle it and um and and they’ve started well so far got the proud sister of Steve truss watching on great to have her company Jess Alvaro watching on as well from the ba office do some work Jess yeah Jess is uh Jess has been a great source of help over the last few weeks with uh with her bows link knowledge as well as um Aaron delort our bows link manager but they do a fantastic job um helping all the clubs out and and especially uh the event staff when we’ve um got major events like this train open on yeah Jess is uh very valuable and they’ve got a TV up in the ba office now so hopefully they’ve got YouTube on nice little smart TV that Chris Clark has just put up so good morning to you all if you are watching and I really hope you are because why not what a good effort well this could be three shots here a great draw ball to finish the end three shots off over there for it actually looked like it was one Nick I think oh really I just looked at the hand signal by the New Zealand thur there might just have been I’ve been deceived by the camera once again the cameras do I was very confident those back two balls were number one and number yeah I think I think what’s happened one of the red balls was um also one of the New Zealand players as well as the South Australian so so 51 after two in favor of the New Zealand lineup or five hang on no 53 it was a three I was right you were Andrew howy you better run away he has run away he not even going to talk to me take a call he’s a busy man Andrew so I’m glad that we can be with you here Val Nick hind here today enjoying the action I hope you are too wherever you’re watching around the world around Australia or around the corner if you are around the corner why wouldn’t you be here at Broad beach balls Club Jess said the TV of the office isn’t on yet come on Jess put it on get the AO on for everybody get everyone in the in the spirit of things because this is the greatest balls tournament in the world there might be enough people in the office to to make it worthwhile there th Thursday is the day where everybody’s everybody’s got to be in you can hear that wind’s getting up again through our microphones and they’re playing they’re playing down Breeze here so it’s a tricky time to adapt when there’s when you’re running into the breeze and then D breze changes the pace of the green and changes the pace of your shot and clearly some of the players are just just missed their Mark here this is slightly longer length gets under the ball he close little tickle and uh he’s done well there yeah so it was three the last hand and it was sorry my apologies yeah my apologies kind bang on the money very easy if you pay attention very happy with his own work there too oh look God I’ve been blessed with with some skills well attentiveness isn’t always one of them but I’ll do my best for you today so mark on the M again here he is the fill in so Robert Flavel is the player who’s who’s gone out Mark he’s done well here tonen is in and he’s going to put back two great shots brilant shooting we’d be pretty happy with that if if you’re the the fill in player and you can come out and do that bad at all yeah not bad you might get invited back yeah now fantastic shots clear run this is close as well just not going to quite get down what a great effort as you can see both hands are turning back nicely this is by far the coldest morning we’ve had so far on the go Coast at the 2024 Australian Open we look selfishly V coming from the snowy mountains in New South Wales I’m I’m about this because we’ve had a very very poor start to the ski season and uh well there’s no better place to be at this time of year than the go Coast the second best place for me would have been going for a ski but this is this is very good the snow can continue we can have some sunshine up here we can get this blue ball it might get all the way to the Jack here to the Jack needs a hold oh and went with it too what a shot well played very nicely done Leon was it Leon brilliant what a great shot yeah so Daryl’s that’s about the most veal we’ve seen him he’s given some pretty clear in ructions needs to sneak under the two red balls get down to the Jack or the ball yeah he’s trying to replicate the same shot um Leon just played very tough shot he’s not far away just needs to get connection now oh he’s very unlucky that’s an excellent effort from that range Colin Bray watching on another great day of bows on the goldie he’s one of our great friends here Colin Bray member at henville it’s hard for the New Zealand combination to make this any better now it’ be interesting to see what they do well his weight was perfect he’s another one thereabouts so Daryl interesting choice here does he sort of stay on that back end or is he try and just arrive down the forehand use his own Bowl he can work off that back to the shop Bow and stay to me Nick I think there’s more percentage down in the forehand they do have a ball at the bottom of screen they can turn the Jack through too but it’s all about playing what your confident in well we did see on that on that first end he was reluctant to play much weight through the head so perhaps the the the backhand might be the go for him and the chance to sort of draw it off that is how he’s setting up here it’s a pretty tight line there yeah you do have to trust your grass on this rink that’s for sure of course we’re playing in this East West Direction this morning and then we changed to north south for the final two sessions of the day got some big players to come for you got Kevin Anderson Ryan Bernett and Ryan B in the next match and also they’re up against Thomas Webb who’s the fiance Dorman D oh wow that’s going to be a cracker of a match and dor and Thomas actually won the New South Wales mixed pairs title together a couple of months ago y Thomas’s first ever State title and he’s won it with his fiance so fantastic pretty great story no Thomas is a good bowler I think he used to play Under 18s for Victoria many moons ago now but um but yeah he’s a fantastic competitor that should be a great match i’ I’ve I’ve had a bit to do with him and and played against him uh a little bit he moved from Fairy Meadow in Woolen gong up to St John’s Park Thomas and then after that we’ve got the team of Isaac mour Anthony Parker David mins and Jared Davies yeah wow Jared Davies you star what a um yeah what a lineup for today it’s um yeah it’s going to be some great viewing so please tune in throughout the day and we’ll try and bring you some uh Fantastic action from uh the Australian Open so Daryl has he corrected here he’s trying it again yeah that’s the problem he it was just such a fine line down there on the back end I think he yeah he just needed to probably look to play the other hand but um nevertheless it’s uh it’s now to Pat to see what he can do just got to be careful either way he plays [Music] here yeah they’ve had a long discussion about this shot selection here here yeah as you say har it’s really hard to get another one in yeah and he can’t afford to cross the line he’s he’s got to play this back end and just try and draw around those red balls the likelihood of the ball getting back to count is probably slim but um you can see no harm done see what the signal was I think it was just one yeah they’re quick with these hand signals yeah this is where not having a marker especially you know we get the luxury being here on the live stream in the singles to get a marker and in the peirs it’s pretty good too could be one to the I think the New Zealand pair or New Zealand quartet the pair of pears yes put that Jack right on the tea they not quite on the two they they’re a meter up there b but uh yeah this is they’re going for the longer length here so we’ve seen so it was two in the end we’ve seen the’ve seen S3 the score these leads are pretty kind of stretch it out early Al Watson here waights good just slipped under a little bit now Kevin Robinson he’s due to play telling bow here he’s probably been a little bit undergrass to start this match but he’s coming back in from a good he’s on a good line here so 73 the New Zealand Holan team over Stein W from South Australia after three ends here at 2024 Australian Open here on the beautiful go Coast here at Broad Beach bows Club it’s day one of the men’s fours but it’s day six would you believe already of the Australian Open lots of great plays being featured lots of great action yeah it only gets better from here on Nick um each day keeps building and building and um obviously as of tomorrow we sort of commence some of the knockout rounds with the men’s fours so very exciting so Mark here were you looking to try and draw the shot he played two uh Great Balls end before they might need a bit of the Jack here to slow it down Andrew oh he’s guts it he’s found a bit of the Jack too yeah good enough for one it’s gone right to the back of the rink so Val’s going to get us the the wide shot as he he’s very good there he straight onto it for [Music] us really swoopy out on that back end now we’ve seen the the breez is starting to push there’s a bit more south in it now which is the the bottom right corner of your screen yeah looks like might be getting behind the ball a little bit this way as well and really taking it through um yeah it continues not going to make it easy for the players but um they can handle it about taking your grass and the bowl do the work few gasss flying around as well there probably a few Gass in the bar last night but see how these are going he’s play this just going a little bit I think just that breeze taking his ball through the head well it stays up it’ll be useful Andrew just rocked Rock backwards into the pit so one shot Mark honkin played some telling balls here early the the Super Sub yeah it’s sort of tucked away there too not easy to um to get to for the New Zealand combination well Leon’s on a pretty good track here has his speed needs a run she going to drop short doesn’t want to get in the way there either that’s that’s a good effort from Leon so let see what Steven can do here he’s out on a good line he’s played a great shot here Nick will it run that’s being urged on well played what a great shot to really closes down that hand now as well so it’s going to force um yes it’s going to force Leon onto the forehand and they’re out probably what a meter in from the from the peg me and a half in from the peg so he’s got to use a bit bit of fresh Paddock out there really interesting match so far as L Lan Williams he’s got the day off today but he’s he’s still done the team thing and he’s brought us some bagels and oh my God they were good can’t believe you didn’t want one Nick the desire is there but uh I’ve been feeling a bit larg and in charge lately so fair enough I had my fruit and yogurt this morning after I I did go for a little Jaun along along the beach front uh and then I got the skateboard out to come here in a more more leisurely fashion i’ I’ve found my my pick of the streets now which has got bit bit smoother foot paths and Roads and less traffic yep so I’m going to try while I’m up here Val to maintain some sort of control over over my eating but look we’ll see what happens if we could go and have a a bit of a feast this evening you never know so tough shot here Pat hallan he’s out on the right side of a track that’s the right sort of a track there he’s he had that front ball so the ball at 11:00 just near the the T off to the left is a New Zealand bow the next two belong to the South Australian Stein W team so as we see Daryl he’s looking to add on here even if he gets that back one it just drops in so doesn’t have to change too much here Pat Harvey mallis must be after a pay rise there I’ll just notic in the comments as we watch well that Allan he’s cut it down to one John W watching on from Mo Swan he does a great job down there at the mo Bowling Club 7 de on the Murray River what have we got here well it’s another tough one these the skips haven’t had a lot of opportunity to to do much with these heads it’s very hard to get at the Jacks have been moving around one shot it is to the South Australian team so 74 is the score line we’re going end for end at the moment almost the third of the way through this contest 2 hours and 15 minutes [Music] very much looking forward to seeing how this all plays out there’s plenty of four sections out there in fact 97 of them which means 31 next best qualifiers all of the sections think play today for the men’s fours and then we bring you women’s fours action tomorrow as well so yeah top two in your groups really what you want to be doing here here Val that that does change a lot of thought process when you’re playing in a competition like this top two with a healthy shot difference yeah absolutely but you you can afford to drop a game you you drop by one or you have a draw yeah you can still feel really confident that you’re a chance of getting through the a dra a draw is a great result St it can be it may not be if your shot difference isn’t good but still need a couple of wins to go with that draw yeah you do but there look it it gives so many more sides a chance to progress and and when there’s teams and walking around just here at Broad beach this morning the likes of Barry leester Cory wedlock Aaron T Aaron Sheriff that’s one team you know if you’re in a section with that you’d really want to hope that you can do you do well enough in your other games get that margin up and make sure that you’re getting out and give yourself a chance CU margin against them may not be uh it might not be too good no the way that they go about there bus they they of course the defending champions from last year they were in fine form and that was a great final against Clinton Bailey um Brendan Wilson Scotty dong and Nick Cahill that was one of the more Sensational fors matches I’ve called probably my favorite one would have been Tasmania versus Western Australia for the 2021 Australian championships title Mark masel winning that with his final Bowl for the mount ly boys they may not have stopped partying since then well it’s uh a great thing for any club or any any member of of the team to be an Australian champion and for you to be given the opportunity to call it call it beautifully of No Doubt good fun I remember I remember the um the presentation that night Adam Graham the third for that team gone on his knees and asked Clive Adams to Knight him or put the medal over his head while he was on his knees it was one of the more bizarre bizarre um presentations that I’ve seen now a little touch on the jack here optimal because those two purple bows do belong to the New Zealand team and I think that would have just bumped them back into the count if they weren’t [Music] already so Daryl’s asking Mark have a forehand draw down set on those two to apologize the cameras are a little bit chumy this morning it’s a good effort here and he split them beautifully and made shot beautiful ball it’s balling well Mark Mark tonin well he’s off the bench too on I think he’s got a point to prove come on guys didn’t pick me first up and uh as you said before he might be cementing his plays for next year he’s playing fantastic just been given update that Aaron sheriff and his team of leester wedlock te’s up 130 after four well that’s what we were saying just now then weren’t we Val that yeah you can run into some very handy sides and the current Australian Open champion forsome and current all Australia jackaroos yep doesn’t get much tougher than that it’s um yeah it would be quite intimidating walking up to play your first round match and you see those four as a combination but um nevertheless it’s a great opportunity as well for the people who have drawn those class players um yeah obviously you got to play well but also learn from them learn from what they’re doing and how they go about the game and um yeah you just don’t know you might walk away with a few tips that you can apply to your own own game moving forward it’s one of the things that we say all the time don’t we Andrew that you sport is the is one of the only ones where you can enter a competition and play against the world champion where he’s been playing for 5 minutes or 5 years or 50 years yep yeah that’s and that’s the beauty about Australian Open like you can’t go and play in tennis against Roger Federer or rapael Nadal if you’re a new player to the sport but um I might be able to have a chance against Roger now that he’s retired yeah true I still I still think you probably don’t have a chance Val win I mean just to actually play him I might have to just find him somewhere and ask for a hit you might have a chance to get a point off him not not one point that’s the greatest of all time you can’t get a point off Roger we’ve just seen the Kevin Robertson blue dreamline XG get chipped across there this is close has he got the running as you say the blue gets to the shelf and flops back oh he’s unlucky far that’s a good effort that’s very stiff getting really hard to do much with that now too Andrew it’s off the line there’s a bit of protection for those swing shots on through the backand yeah it’s not easy for both Skippers really like even um even Daryl now he’s got to be careful what he does ideally wants another one thereabouts uh if he sort of just finishes high on the left of screens probably a good position if the Jack was moved yeah looking we we’ve got a good view just at the minute down down the green and the Jacks sitting right on top of the red bow of Mark tonen I think the big thing for some of these teams here especially the South Australian combination dropping scores like five they’ve got to try and minimize as many of those as they can and in fours if you’re dropping just singles or twos out of your eight it’s not too bad but when you start to drop those big scores that’s when things get a little bit concerning but they’ve done really well after to you know dropping that five on the opening end to get themselves back in this they’re only three behind yeah three behind and holding uh you know tricky to get another one in here as we’ve been saying but it’s not been easy for an easy game for the skip so far the front end has really set this up and uh Skip’s got a big job here’ got our NW traveler he’s asking what speeds are the greens running out this morning what would you say chance oh I would say it’s probably just a look at it Val it’s probably 15 at the moment um probably even slightly quicker it’s bit tricky the wind’s getting behind them coming one way so obviously making the bowl um making that W very quick but um traditionally over the last few days this Green’s been running anywhere upwards of sort of 16 plus seconds so it’s um yeah it’s not not slow by any means good speed the ball can turn you can play every shot we saw Pat Holan he was pretty firm I think he could see the only way he could see at it oh what a great effort that’s a really good shot he’s put another ball in the head see what Pat can come up with he’s taking a little bit of we off here he’s not far away just looking to Rattle around will it get back oh what a great effort well let’s see what the tally will be well one there we go one was all so under the South Australian combination it’s 75 after five very enjoyable contest so far here at the broad Beach bows Club of course undergone a lot of renovation since we were last here in September for the world BS championships yes what a magnificent facility it you know it was before and it only just improved on on that Val with uh this great new back deck and and the area that was somewhat underutilized we could probably say with the the previous configuration but now we’re seeing you know a lot of members out there even early in the morning they’re out there having their coffees and this afternoon they might be having a a slightly stronger libation you got away with words near kind well yeah libation beauties of the English language we can say things that we mean directly we can say them somewhat indirectly as well a libation I don’t think I’ve ever heard that word before we might go out for one this evening Val we can have a that’s your favorite Southern Comfort pasana isn’t it oh I don’t mind a pasana pasano is very nice Vanilla Coke is probably my drink of choice or a coffee just seen that first ball of Al drifton to the back of the rink Kevin looks to be finding his range a bit here yeah another great shot by Kevin he probably started a little bit slowly but this is finding some some real form now yeah I reckon the pace of green will suit well it suits both teams New Zealand traditionally very fast greens um but also South Australia’s uh greens across their State uh traditionally do run fast and um and and obviously a lot of Tiff dwarf greens down there as well so um yeah it’s a bit of an arm wrestle at the moment no one’s sort of got the in ascendency it’s um it’s going to be interesting match so Mark can he deliver another ball coming back this way he has been playing pretty consistent so far he out on The High Line a session two we will be seeing change in Direction in what could possibly be one of the matches of the day team skipped by Thomas web against the team skipped by Ryan bester haven’t seen too much of Ryan bester didn’t play them in singles instead spent it with his now two-year-old whose birthday was on Sunday he was probably pooped after his Mammoth effort on Friday night in the rematch yep it was a great spectacle here at the broad Beach bows Club of course we had a bit of WWE Action as well with the uh security guard just escorting or helping a gentleman who was causing a bit of a Ruckus might have had a few too many Libations that gentlem we think off premises look I I was watching a little bit of the NRL and uh the West Tigers probably could have learned from that security guard 5614 they got pumped on Friday 5614 even Richmond won so that you’re not a taret fan are you Nick no okay no no I just fan mate yeah how storm going this year haven’t really ah Melvin storm they’re in they’re in uh contention as always I feel like they continue to just do okay don’t they well they’re chipping away I think they’re they’re sitting in the top four at the moment and and looking pretty good as we see Steven he’s uh come back from having a little refreshment little Comfort break and he’s had a good good look at the head while he’s on his way down there got a gentleman here Jack Reading 96 years old and he’s standing in front of us he’s still reading he’s still playing too yeah he is still playing played a man or a young kid aged nine well there are wow 86 years difference absolutely fantastic brilliant you know what we’ll give you a shout out that’s for sure my friend great to have you company and thank you for supporting the Australian Open that is truly is a game for all ages he doesn’t look 96 he looks he looks 70 he didn’t hear me but he does he does look good well he might listen like a 96y old all right well Daryl got very interested halfway down there that ball has got HK and Pat’s having a look here he’s having a really good look that might be the shot Val if I stand up I’m going to have a really good look too oh it’s very close darl Hulan sorry pan he was pretty intently watching that one and he’s clipped off Leon van boxell and probably drawn the shot off favor of having another good look here we’ve got a nice little gate through there we do well you do I do and so it’s between the the Blue Bowl viewers at the back of the screen at 5:00 and the the light blue dark blue Duo bowl at the front of the screen at 11:00 there of Kevin Robinson say our favorites Leon at the back there for the New Zealand team seven shots to five the kiwis do lead but after picking up that Big Five on the first end have only been able to secure two further shots so well it’s three three ends to two in favor of the South Australian combination which I think would would hold them in good mentally you know when we’re over a third of the way through this now fours sometimes it can go really quick or sometimes it feels as though it can go Fairly slowly but this one this one is rocketing along yeah actually having said that we’ve been playing 50 minutes I was going to say Val it it it doesn’t feel like we’ve been out here for that long but then I’m I’m looking at my watch and it’s telling me to stand up because it’s nearly 10:00 and I’ve been it does that every 10 to yes to all of our Apple watches how Goods technology we’re also obedient don’t we we stand up at 10 to 10 10 to 11 10 to 11 so good confident call here Steve TR he’s just so continue on your backand you can get through that gate you can get down to the Jack you can get through the blue bowl of Leon van boxall and he can do it something like this oh wow Mighty effort very good effort as Hollywood Michael hollywood senson would say holes are made for balls I’ve learned a few phrases of him this week he’s got every he’s got every phrase that’s ever been uted in B Hollywood certainly does but he’s very knowledgeable great having him as part of the coverage as it has been for you this morning Nick this has been an elite 50 minutes from you don’t pump his tires too much Val he’s got another two sessions after this so he might not be able to get out of the Marquee if we pump him up too much okay Pat what can he produce here looks to be just under the line and wait so one to the New Zealand combination so they do get themselves back back on the back on the board definitely needed that’s for sure 85 now so we’ve gone for a longer length here this a ditch that’s a good bit of Jack rolling with the breeze doing what it’s doing and can get behind the the Jacks and see them sailing Y into the ditch ey we’ve had only on ringside we’ve only had one Lost Jack for this entire week so far which is quite unbelievable considering two years ago I sat with Clive up on green one I reckon we lost six in one match yeah well I was I was with you that year after playing in the singles and I think I lost six myself in one match but I do remember you telling us about but that was that was only because I won six ends you didn’t know what length the play in the ditch Southport was running particularly well 2022 Australian Open Andrew you can pass on your commendations for two years ago they were running quick they’re running pretty quick this year I remember hensil at the World Championships last year on that first Finals weekend they were running lightning quick and Carl Healey was just mastering those uh those short lengths and so was Aaron sheriff and Cory wock to be honest all three of them there was only a few players who could handle that Jimmy Reynolds was the other in the par pairs final was was the only one who could get a get a grip on that uh that green that was almost too quick that day yeah it was it was amazing uh we just had great weather um and yeah we we chatted with all the green staff Ling into the world Champs and it’s not something we said I try and get your greens as quick as I can um Just Produce them like you normally would and as we all know Green Keepers around the Australia and the world when you get some good weather and um it’s a peak time sort of August September for our greens they’re still running very quick up here on the coast they were they were flying on that finals day they were I couldn’t believe how quick they were I was sitting in commentary for three of those matches in the division impaired final um that was quick then it got quicker for the women’s par Pairs and then yeah that men’s triples Final on the Saturday was just lightning quick and then this Sunday we saw obviously the final that you mentioned um Nick that men’s par pass final one of the best of the whole tournament and then we went into Taylor Bruce up against Kelly mccaran where those greens were just lightning quick yeah it feels feels like a lifetime will go now Val um 10 months yeah crazy September the 2nd only last year remember we uh when I first sort of started in this role um 2018 we were planning started planning immediately virtually for the 2020 World Champs and then we all know what happened in 2020 and um and then we had it postpone the 2023 so it was it was great to finally be able to deliver that on the Gold Coast and work with our host venues um yeah it was an incredible event well yeah the next I think 2016 to 2023 it was a long time coming for a world championship seven years and you know Shannon maroy Aaron Wilson and you Karen Murphy was the two-time defending Champion for a hell of a lot longer than she thought she would be 11 years in fact she held that singles title so back to the action here of a wall forming in front there yeah not easy to get in obviously ditch to ditch Mark looking to draw the shot he needs to probably add two feet on his last yes that to add had to be up I’m sure Hollywood would said got to be up when you’re down Val is in that come out uh yes 100% of short Parts don’t go in so when you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take that’s not really a balls one but plenty of sayings around what a great shot that’s brilliant Leon van boxel he’s been just building into this game and the last few ends he’s been playing some telling balls he he picked up the jack on the back hand before going in this direction and he’s he had a a great ball in the head last end and now he’s just moved the Jack across darl calling the left-handed forehand they’re coming in from the right hand side of his screen yeah he’s just looking to beat that Wing ball and he’d be close to drawing the shot here can he skirt the front well he’s close to the Jack oh well played good enough for one so the Kevin Robertson ball has it moved and it’s gone from being shot to not shot and back to shot again well that happens when you’re in the area well yeah shows the value of the lead putting a good Bowl in and and something that’s going to be usable can he get a little rub here now so he’s been called To The Head he’s trying to assess what hand to play here they are holding do have to be careful of any Jack movement the way that the way the Green’s turning Nick he still can play that backand sort of replicate his last delivery down drawing down under his own um this would be the left-hander forehand sorry left-handed that’s correct but um yeah he doesn’t want to swap over to the other side and move that Jack he he’ like him to get off the red even and just sort of sneak across to the yeah well if he plays to the center line he plays good weight but um I suppose the the other thing there if he elects to play that hand he’s leaving it wide open for the New Zealand combination so sometimes you got to beat him to it well I mean a great ball is if he can just flirt past underneath and sit with yep the uh the shadowy the ball that’s lurking in the shadows back there yep got a good setup here there’s the bright blue one in the sun lurking in the shadows and then yes the dark blue Leon Von boxel bow parked in the shadows there and he has gone to play the Open Hand Andrew he Lin’s good so what’s he going to be careful with Jack though uh he’s done well what a great shot two rippers as you said Nicki he does he’s done well under the Jack to the blue ball he hasn’t left any Targets yeah and made two so what can Pat Hulan deliver here looking to just draw the shot any any movement of the Jacks to his benefit he happens to swing under the Jack and rest on the last ball he will be shot just asking got a couple of questions about the scores on the next rink unfortunately we don’t have the best views of what’s happening or who is actually on which side so just check results. bink.com Au for the Australian Open right after the session and they’ll be updated within about half an hour to an hour of matches finishing skips making their way down really poised on a nice edge here three shots not much in the world of fours now apart from that first end of the match where they um where they scored a five uh the New Zealand combination it’s all been pretty tight heads hasn’t been many opportunities to make scores lists of players again results. bing.com I’ll send I’ll put a link in the comments for you and you can go into each different section and figure out who’s who 97 sections you say Val yes let me triple check that for you there are yep 97 which means 31 next best qualifiers will head through so that’s a 30 about a 30% chance of second play of of the teams that finish in second place to get through of course some can finish in third place yeah it’s exactly right it’s happened before get a tight section where they all sort of land on the same sort of WN number of winds couple of draws even Yeah Yeah couple of draws we can get uh third place in a section sneaking through as the next best well we had um we had in one of the men’s men’s single sections Rob McMullen on plus 14 on two wins one loss Glen Pitts two wins one loss Plus 1 and then another player below them two wins one loss plus 12 so two shots separated the top three in that section incredible and Rob McMullen gets through over last year’s semi-finalist in Glen Pitts a very strong group R’s been showing his talents at the BPL of course Andrew howy and I had the pleasure of commentating that match R oh what a great effort not sure if he’s done enough do apologize for these cameras Sten having a really good look there and he says I don’t know not sure still a good chance there for darl he’s just got a drill down little toucher happens to get to Pat’s last ball he can sort of flop the ball backwards and set two or three well there’s a massive wall to sit off too even if he’s a little bit tight there’s plenty to slide through well it’s like the planets of a line there how blessed is he oh not sure falling out could be a three-way measure here that one’s come out straight away wow okay could be one could three here Nick it’s a close close measure it’s t will come out and this is really interesting let’s have a look and see if we can get any better angle on the 45 baited breath see this is the good thing about this new setup Nick you can stand up and you’re still connected to the mic yes I’m these new headsets that we’ve got going I’m a big wrap on the headsets cuz there are a few who do like standing up when they when they’re calling and this way you can do it it also helps that we can get a get a better look cuz they’ve passed the tape from one side to the other yeah that’s how close this measure is we might have an Umpire called have we had many umpire calls you’ve been keeping track of that ah I think just one on our inks that we’ve been that we’ve been doing what’s ire has been called ire has been called so local Legend Dave Bishop going out to to measure why is he a local Legend oh he just does a mountain of work for the broad Beach bows Club mate and umpiring and officiating throughout the year he’s always one of the first guys to put his hand up and offer to umpire so he does a fantastic job so we’ll head back to the Head camera and let’s see what we get here well as you suggested Andrew how it is a three-way go for second shot or third shot or just one down maybe who knows yeah well the one has been taken out so this is to determine whether it’s a multiple and how big of a multiple might be or if it is just the one so all the players Al vacated the rink giving the Umpire plenty of room to do his work strut his stuff do his very best assert his dominance so he’s got the chocks coming out now so very professional back to the 45 see if we can figure out anything so we favor it’s one shot to the South Australian team of Daryl St w got a great variety of color around broad beach this morning which is great to see many different clubs and colors yeah I’ve I’ve been a wrap on a lot of uniforms for those that have tuned in over the years you might know that I’m a big fan of the Red Hill uniforms from Brisbane I was waiting I was waiting for you to say that but I look I want to give a plug to the arima magpies in front of us here just a black white with a little touch of red that’s uh that that’s had a few people from arima on the stream this week had two streams featuring that club I don’t mind the new Alister are the allstars uniforms yes yeah they are fantastic pummer getting involved there so let’s have a look he’s which one’s he taken out turned out the dark green I think which I think is Pats so I favor it’ll only be one shot but that was the most comprehensive measure there yeah that took that took a while to get through Andrew how’s just ducked away but as he said local Legend and anybody who volunteers their time to umpire to officiate to coach to Mark games everybody here at this trali open the army of volunteers yes Andrew how’s Army now we can hear that wind’s getting through the effects microphone again Andrew how’s Army I like that so seven and or sorry eight eight ends to play we’ve played Seven almost at the halfway point here 86 in favor of the New Zealand combination it’s getting really really cold hopefully the sun can make more of an appearance and the wind can just go away it’s the it’s the wind I think that’s doing you here Al I don’t like it I hate when Melbourne’s windy it on the Gold Coast but the weather here has been pretty Splendid not a cloud in the sky we I’m just having a look at the AL Justa hoodie in front of us here oh that that does look pretty good I do love the s John’s Park kits as well they have gone to another level what they’ve done over the last couple of years with their outfits and kits so 86 Two Shots the difference not much splitting these two quartets blowing a gale almost out here ideally we don’t want to get any wind ideally we don’t want itth to get any windy of Val um greens are running very quick I was just having a quick chat to the green Keepers on the way back through and they said it’s timed at a bit over 16 seconds at the moment so running beautifully but the players are doing well it’s uh it’s a tight contest this one so Mark he’s been playing the other hand coming this Direction Let’s see what he can do he’s not far away might just run out of puff there he’s just just about a yard Nick um but not bad not a bad opener he can work with that yeah some of these heads have got very crowded very suddenly but uh haven’t quite found their optimal range as yet now I’ve been I was wrong Val and not for the first time but I was wrong it was two shots last end so this is where I think we need to maybe word up some of the players just to give more clear Mark marks so we can see them as well of course they’re not too worried about that they’re worried about the task at hand so 87 very very close contest yeah so after the explosion of scoring in the first two ends where it was a five and a three we’ve seen twos and ones only as both these combinations have really battled for the ascendency you’d say you no no team has looked dominant no team has had big scores no team has had big scores even available to them the skips haven’t had chances to make big numbers yeah brilliant shots there by m yeah right Nick hits um there hasn’t been many opportunity to make a score apart from that first end where the kyway combination picked up that five um but you tend to find that on days like this when the greens are running quite quick and um sometimes it can be quite hard for the Skippers to really play a massive impact in the match well as I’m looking across the scoreboards on this ring Andrew Harry 7 all 108 139 um you know there’s there’s no big blowout of scoring there’s no team that’s really asserted any dominance um other than of course we’ve heard about the Aaron Sher Frink next door but you can probably forgive their opponents for for dropping a number to them and defending Champions yeah so Steven from the sa combination just played a cracker there two down to one up sort of worked his way into the game nicely the last few ends Steven he’s been bowling well so the red Tyler s he’s just been asked to make sure he gets down gets past the Jack get to the blue he’s got pass but he might just be a hair quick yeah great effort it’s not a bad home down the bottom of screen there so Leon conversely needs to subtract about a yard here he got pretty close the first time and he’s out on a good high line again J’s getting back nicely out there Val it is good enough that ditch side has proven to be quite quick and quite nice for a lot of the players out there across the halfway mark of this contest as the skips will make their way down so one shot it is to the New Zealand team Leon van boxall is put in another good ball there yes over to Daryl now to try and uh see what he can produce I think it’s I think it’s probably just a confident draw to start with Nick another one in the head um can give him some options with his last yeah if he can if he can draw on his backand you know roll the blue ball once and park in there for two that’s a great uh that’ be the number one outcome and then plan B is anything just around that same Mark H will it hold on he’s just going to go under the head he be disappointed with that so chance here for Pat he he is holding shot by the look of it so he bet he can still draw down there confidently a little touch of the Jack down the line he could be sitting two or three yes that uh the red ball at 7:00 there’s away but as you say down the line’s a really good result for him yeah it’s just one of those things I don’t think he can leave Daryl with the same shot uh Daryl I’d expect darl to correct with his next and sit the ball out or try the jack to his ball so first in here draw the shot touches a bonus it’s a good try another one in the catching pen as they say Nick down the line there so darl is really got to be careful here well one down at this stage isn’t going to be disastrous but if he would to give it away and make it for a five down that’ be really really bad especially considering they’ve had a lot of this momentum and bit of a safe one what can Pat holahan do big ball he’s been been asked to play pretty conservative there stick it out wide it’s interesting I I would have been inclined to try and draw the Jack down the line there you don’t get you haven’t many chances to try and uh Make a Score weight was pretty good for the shot yeah as you say Andre a very conservative call but I think you know they’ve only won one of the last four ends they maybe wanted to just get the length back get the Jack back get their their momentum now team it’s um looks like another long length they both sort of employing this tactic they they’re liking the longer length obviously with the speed of the green yeah haven’t seen too many and looking across the ring they haven’t seen too many with the courage to take the mat right up um you can look foolish when you do that from from time to time particularly if you’re the lead and you roll the Jack into the sand again um but nine shots to seven we’ve had nine ends completed and now from three of the last four ends lost they’ve split the last four and the New Zealand combination have won two of the last three so just starting to Edge their way back into this after eight ends we’ve got seven to play including this one here so you can see on that wide shot there is beautiful blue sky 18° my watch is telling me and Val will tell all of you that my watch is lying to us no it probably is 18 but little bit of a loose opening here both leads but uh Kevin looking to try and correct needs to drop a meter of wa on his first delivery oh the grass is impeccable Andrew it’s close if he has his weight Nick oh it’s going to be good enough for number one yeah it’s a good shot well played two good bows they in the game just see maso just uh traveling through a chance here for the sa combination so Mark torren Tonkin sorry can he put a bit of pressure back on his opposition draw another shot little toucher would be amazing well he’s the man who sort of started this South Australian Res Revival I think he’s uh played some of the most telling balls from that second position and he’s going to get around the back not a bad opener counts and get in for second shot yeah you’re right Nick he has played well it’s um it’s a funny thing over the years a lot of people have hated playing second in a game of fours um I guess the old saying back in the day was that’s where you probably hide some of your players but uh I’ve been lucky enough to play second a lot a lot of time over the years and and also you talk to some of the games Elite you can really control the game from second um if your lead’s playing well you can really pull the pressure on your opposition but also if if your lead might be struggling you can really try and get your team back in the game so um yeah so Mark and Mark’s done that he the team was sort of scrap scrapping around a little bit and he started drawing some great shots in the head and um just made it a bit easier for his third and Skipper he’s just traveling here we’ve just put the put the mock on him mate it’s always away commentator curse as they say yeah well Val’s just gone and adjusted that camera for us too so it was a little bit maybe one of the the legs was getting a bit droopy there but that’s looking much better now we’ve got a good angle up the grein the players are certainly they got the grass figured out on this one but uh just the speed as the wind comes up and down a little bit inconsistent and on this long length any SL slight uh adjustments or slight misjudgments are being punished as we see Leon here he’s going to be close very close what a great shot wow that’s brilliant Nick he’s uh just about a back back resting toucher as you call it um fantastic bow it’s going to be very hard to remove so Daryl just saying be there either hand look to get a touch on the jack or the bow and reset there is a chance I think so he’s played the the left-handed forehand and this is pretty close too Andrew will it get down a little bit more Nick what a great shot wow Steven Briant big high fives from all of his teammates massive shot a great shot well can Leon replicate his first effort just going to drop under yeah Skipper Pat was interested for most of the way there but just had a great angle of the turn there and it just didn’t work played great speed again but yeah as you said just under the head he’s in a good home as you can see darl there trying to tell Steve to swap over to other side of the green and try and beat the blue balls if you turn back you count but um it’s one of these shots where you’re trying to cover and count for your team yeah well Two Shots it is now to the South Australian team you touch on the Jacks okay but beating the blues is absolutely uh the number one outc come here with his first shot tucks the Jack away not quite it’s a good shot but it’s yeah it’s probably not where the skip wanted it didn’t want him to cross the line really did he no no we need him on that other side so it’s probably just given add another Bowl to to rest on uh so he’ll stay on that backand going to try and sit the shop ball try the Jack over to the blue balls at the bottom of screen one for the two of you how important is it as a skip to learn communication and how to be succinct but also just be as clear as possible where you want the balls to go it’s the difference between winning and losing in tight contests Val I think Andrew you’d agree that communication can change the game we see particularly with with with Junior Bowlers in in my role a lot that Juniors who who talk well and communicate really well together are able to see things that others don’t um and I mean Andrew’s played at a higher level than than most Bowlers you know the communication that’s done at the top level is is Elite for a reason yeah and it’s it’s just about how like I guess is a skip um obviously you got to play the big shots but you got to you got to control your team and you got to guide them through through each end so a big part of is calling the right shots and and trying to build the head to your um Advantage so um everyone can play the shots but you got to tactically be smart and um and as Daryl will try here he’s really just trying to draw a shot on the left handed side of screen if he beats that Wing ball he counts but most importantly he’s covering the trail of the Jack although he’s he’s going to count but he hasn’t got to where he wanted he was a bit unlucky there really need that touch did Andre yeah cuz the trail now still well and truly on yeah but we’ll see we’ll see in that game later on today about tactics and and especially uh in the middle game when Ron best is playing like as a Skipper and as a team you’ve got to have a lot of good plans in place when you’re playing a play like that especially with his his drive and and what he can do to to your ends so it’s um it’ be very interesting to see how Thomas plays that match and um in terms of Ry like you don’t want to build the heads too much because we know he’s probably got the best hit in World balls and um sometimes it doesn’t always work like that you’ve got to just play play the game as you best you can and see how it all unfolds but um pressure right back on Pat now well with favorites probably four shots so Pat you the trail is still there but it’s not a massive Target though they’re they’re lined up pretty well if he can get to the Jack though he’s done a fantastic job I don’t know he’s got the pace he’s under he’s just just under the line was a it was a tough shot had the pace just didn’t at the right line so this is what we call the old free hits I don’t I’m not sure why they discussing too much he played he played his first one perfect he just needs to play the same ball out to those blue ones the key here Nick is not to cross the line you don’t want to be anywhere near this Jack well that might have been what was being reiterated by Steven TR there just don’t touch it it’s always hard though don’t think about an elephant see that’s that’s the problem there sometimes he can just you can just probably say too much like Daryl’s an experienced player play for the state let him just get on and play his shot they’ve sort of put him in a bit of a negative mind frame and he’s dropped sort of halfway up the halfway up the green so but a good score nonetheless for the South Australian combination so I think it was a two was it not four in the end yeah it was four Val before they play that last ball I couldn’t quite see an indication but there you go they are in front for the first time in this match it’s taken a while yes but they do get the lead and you’d rather have the lead a little bit later than a little bit earlier well I mean the best time to be leading a game is on the final end but but when you haven’t let it all is as well as after the final end but when you haven’t let it all to go in in the second half to just round that bend after nine as we head towards the 2/3 of the way through this at the end of this end that’s where we’ll be apologies for the camera there get that working something a little bit more medium here in terms of length yes well the New Zealand team has really made clear their intentions with the ja there they are going full length they are really stretching it out so the Stein wild South Australian team has responded they said we’ll go a little bit shorter and see how good you are with a bit more touch perhaps yeah it’s not a bad tactic they have been struggling coming this way the New Zealand team have won a number of end so it’s a good ploy to try try something different although they’ve just scored a count of four on the last end going ditch to ditch it’s in yeah there a good Ted to try and just try something different coming back this way see if the team can find their their range so Al there just ping up a little bit short so mark tonkins on the mat put this down on a pretty good line it’s just going to cut underneath but will it stop be disappointed with that he played um played pretty good speed there he was only just a little bit over but yeah as we know on these grain you’ve got to take your grass let the ball do the work so we’ve played an hour and 27 minutes 2 hours and 15 is what we play to in the sectional rounds and of course once we get to the quarterfinals and beyond all untimed yeah if Open matches they are val but um in our uh in our par parabs dis abil um um games as well as our over 60s they do still have carry a time limit throughout the whole um knockout rounds so 3 hours plenty of time to get through their matches um well we hit that last year in the women’s uh multi- disability singles final between Serena Bonnell and Cheryl lynfield that was one of the more epic matches that I’ve ever called because I think Serena was up 1913 and Cheryl just continued to come back and come back and come back yeah not wrong it was a it was a great match Cheryl showed a lot of fight to get clor away back in that match and and claim victory so and it did hit the 3 hour mark they actually started their final end when the Huda went off so they were able to finish it we’ve seen a good correction there from Mark tonen so Steve on his backand we’re going to give Mark bow a friend here he’s not far away just needs it to turn back in now he’s done well what a great shot that’s perfect made two hasn’t fatten up the target see Daryl got really just as the ball started hooking home late there he got really interested and why wouldn’t he South Australian team they win this end they can really put the pressure on heading towards the business end of this contest yeah New Zealand got to be careful here he’s got the Jack he’s done well better to say they just um South Australian team have probably just got the momentum at the moment they’re just playing the better balls in that second and third position but that was a great shot there by Leon well the positive for them is from the nine ends that they’ve played play they’ you know they’ve won more of them they’ve only dropped since that five they haven’t dropped more than a two and they’ve only dropped three ends since then just been mightily impressive they were down 7 to3 they’ve clawed their way back well good shot of counts but uh plenty of room here yeah You’ back back L on to go plon one pretty close to this oh no he’s got the hands on the hips like a teapot down the other end I don’t know whether he likes it or not he only needs to turn and he should draw the shot it’ll be good enough on favor yeah that’s the shot I reckon but still quality skips they’d be backing themselves to get a couple inside that plenty of room yeah 800 mm or or so yeah it’s never easy when you’re obviously playing to an offset of Jack you’re playing in a part of the green thata hasn’t been bowled on as yet the balls aren’t sort of turning out from the boundary Peg so it’s always a little bit tricky but um as you said there’s a bit of room there darl will be hoping to try and draw this with his first obviously a little toucher there he could be could be lying too but um the key is just to try and draw the shot get as close as you can and playing pretty safe there out on the on the forehand it’s the Open Hand looks to be under and through two he back a play of his caliber to improve on that yeah it’s lucky I think he was a little bit worried there because Leon’s bow got outside the the bandry Peg and sort of didn’t quite come back as much as they thought so he’s obviously was a bit worried about that and played the title line but it’s as you can see it’s swooped across so chance here for P he needs to make this one count draw the shot yeah they desperately need this to the Kiwi quartet great to have everybody’s company wherever you’re watching from around the nation and the world needs it to stop bad hall hand he just sliding through that’s probably not a bad home in the end there though cuz if the Jack does get chipped back towards the center I think the New Zealand team we going to be down on a better line here sorry Nick he’s all right down to his speed now well we said we’d back darl to correct what a great shot well played okay who’s got the back balls here does he look to try and drive the shot ball out kill the jack very interesting pad hle hand it’s white on the back hand it’s coming but not enough great effort so one I think it is just the one yeah so one more to the South Australian combination and they stretch their advantage this has been a really impressive fight back from what was a pretty tough start 12 to9 that’s the score at the moment well Val whatever the result of this game is I think both teams will feel that you know if if they get defeated that it’s one that’s got away you know the New Zealand team started so so positively so strongly and then the South Australian uh Team the the the Stein Ridge uh the Stein W uh combination they’ve really fought back and gained the ascendency they’ve gained a lot of confidence while doing so and Andrew Harry they would feel really good about themselves if they win this game but you feel as though the the new zealanders might feel as they one that might have let it slip yeah it’s I think it’s still anybody’s neck um but I just think the last sort of three or four ends the the South Australian combination they just gained the moment and they consistently starting to put balls there about um so it’s important now to for the new zealanders to just um take their time just try and regroup and and just get back to what they were doing earlier in the match and just uh getting some close balls and letting their their third Leon and their skip Pat um work their magic so um it all starts with the lead and here’s Al on the matwe looks pretty good just needs a bit of Bend at the end and he’s done well that’s a good open I you’d be happy with that yeah getting down towards the the business end of this contest now so the keyway is they just want to win one get one up they need to chase anything silly yet it’s only three shots and as we’ve spoken about margins might come into it for next best qualifier so there’s no requirement to go and do anything silly and potentially give up a big number no that’s correct it’s um don’t need to change too much on what they’re doing it’s just uh I think I feel it’s only going to take one or two big big shots and I think that’ll be enough for someone to win this win this game it’s that close so Pat’s just drifting through again although we did say last Andrew the importance of the of having back balls and and giving yourself a chance to to run at things whether it’s covering the tea or just having something at the back depending on the format of the game always very uh very important yeah no you’re right mate it’s um and especially when when all these matches are respot so if the Jack’s killed it does go back on the te so it is important to try and limit your bad ones and and if you do play a bad one it’s it’s sort of pass rather than short but um obviously no one means to play a short Ball but yeah it’s very important in these gam especially in the game of fours to have balls past the head we’ve seen Mark tonin as he’s been doing with monotonous regularity in this game he’s gone and parked another one pretty close there this is not a bad reply if he gets a clear run he’s just going to run into Mark’s ball was a great effort as we’re enjoying the smell of fresh cut grass the uh the tractors coming past at the soccer rals right behind us fresh cut grass the ocean the sunshine and some great balls being played here Mark tonen in another good area Andrew hary oh he misses his own oh he’s unlucky it’s probably his worst worst result if he gets around that he would have um covered the New Zealand Bowl he’s just opened it up a favor from the shot that’s been called that the red bow of Mark tonen for the Stein W South Australian team is still holding shot yeah that’s correct it’s just probably giv um the New Zealand team a chance to just arrive couple of balls to work off oh he’s unlucky to go through the Gap if he got the edge of the ball he would have worked his way back to the Jack but um you can see Daryl clear instructions trying to beat beat b his foot at the bottom of screen anything better is a great result but um he’s going to find himself in a great home if you can get a ball there yeah so the two back balls are the the lead balls from Al Watson what’s happened here he’s turned up yeah it’s Kevin’s ball so they’re holding two maybe more it’s fattened up the Target too I I think he might go more postive at this I think the time’s now i’ be going quick on the forehand get the Jack you can get all three balls as well I think it’s now time to try and play one of these shots change the momentum yeah yeah Pat’s Pat’s saying I other hand i’ pick your weight here I think he needs to be more expressive and and really crisp instructions yeah nice and positive it’s a backhand with some firm weight underneath it’s hard though isn’t it if if if you’re given two options you try to have a bob Hy and you end up getting nothing yeah that’s a problem when the Green’s running like this and they it is turning that sort of weight will still still take off on you so maybe the keys to go a little bit quicker with his next well we watching here yep yeah there’s the call straight at it yeah don’t worry about tactics just go straight at it this is better very close he got it what a great shot so a wide we have to go to the wide shot because we’re going to have a look at see where the where the Jack’s gone can’t actually too much of a gauge on I think it looks like it’s right out towards the boundary p they’re just looking at to see whether it’s in or out might actually have to get an unly here almost might have to go and adjust that camera so we can see what’s going on there cuz it’s right out in the very corner of the rink maybe cross to the 45 we can pick it up there we get see it’s right next to the boundary Peg so I’m not sure who belongs to that bow the bottom of screen there’s a bit of traffic coming through so we they’ve called the Umpire have so we’ll get it gauge on whether this is in or out cu it’ll change things a little bit well was a magnificent shot there from from Leon yeah he played his first ball Val a little bit half-heartedly to get down through the through the head but uh the second the ball he’s was told explicitly no more stuffing around go straight at this and uh Leon van boxel he’s guts the Jack taking it straight back well not straight back taking it back to the to the pit but there is some contention now over BS and Jackson whether they’re in or out so we’ll get the mirrors out and have a look and see whether we’re in line or not so we’ve got about 34 minutes left to get through this I’m I’m just looking at the clock now and we may we may get timed out of course if the jack is rolled for the final end before the hooa goes we can play out that end but this is uh it’s getting to a point now where we’re only in end 11 and the last thing you want in your sectional rounds when shots up M mean everything is to leave ends on the table and this has taken a couple of minutes already well this is something that we see so often though Val and Andrew in in four Bowl Pairs and and two ball fours particularly that there’s a lot of balls in the head things get crowded and so things get hit and when things get hit we get get things that happen like Jack going out of bounds re spots um and up is being called so still deliberating here so I saw a signal saying that it’s in yep so they’ve got a draw to the rink Peg pretty well here Andrew Harry it’s that’s a shot that you’ve been practicing every afternoon at training yeah well I know I haven’t but um it’s a it’s a definitely an acquired skill um drawn to the ditch it’s probably something most Bowlers around the country probably don’t practice enough um and not only drawing to the ditchy but you Mak sure that you pass the tea as well so drawing to the rink Peg so not only past the te but out wide to the peg because there’s very little margin for error here so is it the New Zealand bowl that is shot Nick the purple one I think it is a purple color we’re we’re down the wrong end to to see the color and the the the Shadow and the light still makes it tricky because the ball is all the way to the edge of the screen there so that’s the case Pat’s only going to beat those balls and stay up in your’ll count it’s a mighty effort it’s gone into the shadows and it has stayed up believe it stayed up yes now it has that’s it sort of half in half Out of The Shadow so the ball the shadow at the far right hand side of your screen viewers is the shot so really really tricky to get to not a bad effort so it is one to the New Zealand combination was just indicated so beating that last bow then would be my estimation Andrew Harry yeah his weight was perfect just needs to um take a bit more grass that’s what he’s done so watch this as it crawls into the no that’s a 45 that’s one from the other rink oh it is too yeah we just got a rogue bow come across got confused right this is the one that we’re watching the ball that’s still moving this is going to be very close that’ll make two he’s done well to get around that Rogue ball oh it is definitely two okay so definite two and they’re going to have a look for a third here the Umpire has the Umpire has stayed down with them which is probably pretty sensible because you never know what might happen with these wi Jacks yeah you can see that they’re getting the tape out three shots wow all square game on well as you called Andrew howy get aggressive go at it and see what happens so the Jack went into the ditch right out in the corner and then a great draw ball from skip Pat Holan has uh made three shots and has made this game come alive again valow four ends to play 12 a piece this is going right down to the wire and it’s going down the wire in terms of score and time well time is time is now of the Ence since we have 29 minutes to get through four ends which is 5 and 1 half minutes an end yeah it’s going to be tight well to get through three completed they only got yeah that’s right they’ve only got to roll the Jack um before the Bell goes I think they’ll be okay but you never know the Jack might go out well we might need more umpires we might need a bit of everything players might talk on the head this is this is when the drama really starts to ramp up because you just never know as we see here it’s a change of tactics from the kiwis too they’ve they’ve got the mat all the way back and then R this is I favor the shortest Jack of the game as we see Kevin Robinson just go plon one straight on it for South Australia and says we’ll beat this Watson now gets back handy enough home just waiting for this sun to come into the Marquee here still windy and quite nippy in here I know this is good for you Nick you’re in t-shirt and shorts absolutely ecstatic with this so are you one of those people leaving in CA great shooting you just wearing shorts the whole time no no the you still need to dress for the climate in in the act as Andrew Harry would know and and in in Jinder Bine but uh I I think whether it’s 15° or 19° or whatever the watch is telling us here this is really good for me and uh and I do I do appreciate it this is no way it’s 19 degre 17 still possibly the best place to be in the month of June is here the broad beach balls club and any of the clubs 14 clubs is it now Andrew that’s correct Nick 14 clubs um so our most southernness Club is cool and G all the way through to Ben Lee our most Northerners Club so they’re all done a fantastic job over the last six days but they’ll continue to work uh the best they can to deliver what is a fantastic Australian Open so without the backbone of our host clubs and all their volunteers events like this they it’s really not possible and um I mentioned yesterday on The Telecast where we’re using upwards of almost 1,000 volunteers now to deliver this great event um and yeah for those listening at home that have helped so far in the advantor will continue to help over the next uh 10 or so days uh thank you for all your efforts and um yeah it’s much appreciated from everyone at bows Australia and if you’re thinking about doing it yes absolutely you know give your time while you’re up here it’s a great thing to do come and play come and do some marking come and help out because come and commentate Nick hind that’s well we don’t just let anybody C just anyone can do it Nick hind just donating some of your time you weren’t playing the AO this year were you no I’ve come to watch some great balls as we see one in one out there for the South Australian team yeah that it came up my brother’s just recently bought a new uh a new house in Bala so helping out there a little bit and taking the the niece and nephew to the skate park and are the skaters like you for a swim H not quite yet but they’re getting there they’re getting there the the scooters have been ripping around the the skate park of of Baler and then to come up and enjoy some of this beautiful sunshine and get out of the Snowy Mountains Cold is always an absolute pleasure so chance here to really put the pressure on three shots to the South Australian team here been well set up by the front end Kevin and and Mark another three for them would be huge just as this New Zealand CET have thrown themselves right back into this contest he’s very close will count there is a war to work off there for Leon that’s a Target and a half yeah any sort of if he he arrives down to any of those bows he will get second shot but uh the keys just to try and draw it try and help he skip out here he’s on a pretty high line for somebody with that good of a Target yeah just overplay the weight really uh so pressure well and truly on now yeah bit loose here that the New Zealand team they’ve picked up a they picked up a good three the last end to draw the match up and then they’ve rolled as we say the shortest Jack of the game I was very surprised they they went for the short Jack they’d been rolling long lengths um could it have a Miss Q uh I’m not sure Val I’m not sure but um yeah it was me I would have been inclined to keep playing their longer length back this way that they had been playing well on uh and they’ve just sort of missed the Mark here yeah t taking a bit of a risk and at this stage it’s not paid off that that last ble from Steven just it clipped off the shot and went back down the line so there is a bit of cover now for the South Australian team at the back there’s couple of Leons balls back there but I think the plan’s still the same Andrew four balls to set off just to cut it down yeah he’s gone bigger the key is here but is not to not to purposely play too much weight at it you’re just just trying to draw the shot uh let the ball do the work work off the pack he’s just uh just running out on a high line and W get back so Daryl looking to draw the shot can manage to sort of get behind the Jack and count would be a a great result he’s very close here wants to continue to turn great bit of speed okay it’s still pretty good it’s going to make it harder to I mean like get number one and maybe number four here makes it really hard to to cut it down wonder if he was half inclined to to drive there and run the Jack or if he’s two balls High could have cleared a fair few out has he given it enough weight here the line looks okay what a shot well who needs to drive when you can play Shots like that Sensational that’s the boss wow and a high five from his opponent although he kind of left him hanging there that was a great shot big pressure ball five down well do you get do you look to go and po this one out then have to have to mate games on the line here you have to um these are the big ones that the Skippers dream about taking a ball out for five shots Daryl Stein wi not going to get down it’s going to obstruct things maybe no that is a mega bowl from Pat Holan and all of a sudden they’re back in front 1312 three ends to play they’ve won two in a row for the first time in this match what a time to pull that out yeah the the key to that shot was he he didn’t have played he just backed himself to draw let the ball do the work and yeah what a shot that’s uh if the hallan combination can win this match I think they’ll put it down to that bow right there that was very classy and you know to salvage you know one up from five down Andrew howy that’s uh got to give them a lot of confidence I suspect they will be rolling a bit longer though yeah you’d be a brave man to roll that length back to your Skipper after uh after what just unfolded at the end before but um and that is yeah it’s a bit longer that’s for sure 13 12 20 minutes to go as we see Al just uh drifting through the head there the action’s heating up here as we’re getting towards the exciting conclusion of this first round match Andrew Harry’s even taking the jacket off that’s how hot it’s getting yeah it’s uh well thanks guys you put me in the Sunny Seat it was good earlier now I’m getting sunburnt but uh maybe go get some sunscreen what happened to me the other day no it’s a it’s a beautiful day and yeah what a great start to to uh the Thursday of the AO with this great match and as you said still in the balance anybody’s great game oh ow he won’t be happy with that he Skippers just played a bomb and the key there is to sort of try and back him up and produce some good balls and he’s just sort of missed the mark but um big chance here now for Kevin I it’s easy to over correct but that’s uh at this time of the game it’s vital that the front end is making a really valuable contribution and we see Kevin yeah great making a valuable contribution here fantastic balls so big chance for Moro here is we haven’t said his name too much today it could be a chance for him to get something really into it past the front there just had a question from Heather about the shot clock unfortunately we don’t have access to that today or the clock to count down to the time limit it’s just a different application that that lock has been using while he’s been on the cameras bit more skeleton operation for me today surely there’s a free trial of something no it’s the complete opposite of that nothing’s free these days I don’t think no except for obviously the coverage we’re producing today well there you go see that’s how you get anything for nothing we are We Are Men of the people but we’ll keep you updated throughout the games 11:15 eastern time is when the H will go 18 minutes they’ve only got to get through this end plus two more which should happen and hat off there yeah muso what a great shot well played exactly what the skip was after muso muscles well his muscle memory was all right there because he he’s parked to absolutely Jack high and he made a great correction with his second ball now Mark tonen has been just about the man for this South Australian team Off the Bench as we say what can he do here to change the situation he’s going to go to a good home yeah he already had one there but uh he got called the other hand and fair enough now Leon sker Pat’s watching this intently he wants to get to the Reds he’s going to go past them splits it up a little bit okay Steve see what he can produce down on his forehand trying to draw the shot little touch around the corner promote his own bow so that was a bit of Pat hall hand Magic on the last end that has granted this New Zealand outfit back the lead what a great effort another ball in the head so still calling here for Leon on the forehand just looking to get down to the shot ball double it up next session at 114 45 looking forward to that one team Skipper by Ryan against Thomas web what’s Steve done here he’s not far away oh what a great effort so close unfortunately he’s made it a lot harder however skips make their way down not long to go and this is getting nerve-wracking for all four of these players from both sides to get your AO campaign off to a winning start is exactly what you need if you lose it’s one shot you don’t want to give up too many that’s for sure so Pat trying to uh put another ball in the head here it is quite vulnerable if Daryl could manage to remove the shot ball it’s not far away just needs to keep running well he gets past it a really good good shot however does it sort of line up now to remove both balls if they wanted to play weight well Daryl Shan is’s reluctant to play much weight though so far yeah he has hasn’t he um but I I tend to agree with you there that there’s a a backhand shot that could get the front blue Cannon those two out or get can squeak around and maybe get a bit of the Jack there yeah these timing shots when the Green’s running like this and turning those timing shots he’s trying to play there are very difficult you’ve got to be so precise hard to tell from our angle whether it’s one or two to the New Zealand combination here this shot will probably tell you a bit more and we’ll probably tell us a bit more how whether or not they yeah be looking to add on or look to cover stalking it down now’s he going to finish up as it gets to the to the Head he’s just rocked that front one it’s probably doesn’t count it’s hard to see yeah if always Daryl see this is the problem Daryl’s got now he does not have back ball he could be well it’s definitely one as we know I’m not sure about the second and third New Zealand have got the balls to the right of screen where the jack is likely to go as well so it’s it’s he’s potentially one shot behind uh he needed to play that with his with his with his first ball worst case he killed the jack off gives himself a chance to draw the shot now he’s sort of in um in a bit of strife here well again as you say that take the opportunity when you’ve got it because now even if he does make contact there there’s another bow from the New Zealand combination that that might you might stuff things up completely there because it can rattle around you never know what’s going to happen it’s hard to see the angles but if he gets to that Cannon he could sort of propel the black ball down the line onto the Jack and could be in the game but he’s just going to miss it’s a great effort that was about as good as he could go but we’re going to have a look it’s close for the second very interesting here so one ball withdrawn didn’t see an indication there it might have just been that one talking to the skips well it’s definitely two they did take the shot ball and then remove the front one as well so we’re about to find out as the board gets turned it was two to the New Zealand combination so they extend their lead to 15 to 12 this is getting worrying for this South Australian combo because they looked for all money like they were on it 129 up after 10 since then they haven’t won a shot well this is what I said to you Val a couple of ends ago is that either team whichever team you gets defeated in this game might feel as though they’ve let one slip here and yeah it’s taken a couple of Big Balls you Pat holan’s played a couple of absolute bombs uh to to get the New Zealand side back in this and now they’ve dropped three ends on in a row here the the South Australian combination and they’re looking down the barrel of of a defeat that seemed unlikely three ends ago yeah it’s uh it’s definitely EB and flood this match but um we said great opening bowl there by Al Watson and Kevin Robinson’s delivered a cracking shot also but um yeah the the new zealanders are really in got the upper hand now they just really need to win this end even a one would propel them four shots up going into the last end and you know when we’ve only seen a score of four or more conceded just once or sorry once for each team it’s uh uh having a lead of four would be hugely beneficial 10minute warning has been given this end and one more to play after this we will get the match finished that’s for sure but the result we’ve got absolutely no idea great shooting Kevin Kevin’s doing everything he can for South Australia here he’s uh he’s led up really well particularly towards the back end of this game those dreamline xgs have got themselves in there with monotonous regularity we see moreo here squeaking around the back but if if you can finish the other side of the line that might come in really handy yeah it’s a good home especially when the opposition are all over the jack at the moment that’s it’s likely any movement’s going to be back so um won’t be too disappointed with that as long as he can try and correct with his next yes haven’t seen a lot of power on display here but I’m sure we’ll see some more in the next game Ryan bester up at 11:45 Kevin Anderson’s got a good drive Thomas well well he’s playing front end though is he too much from him still you never know wow okay be disappointed with that I think it’s it’s arriving it’s weit from moo here through down any connection on the head be wonderful here yeah the old Master Blaster in action this is much more positive from moso and he’s got a pretty good track if he’s going to get some contact on something push a couple away it’s only probably two down now certainly improved it though with that uh the lead ball of Al Watson’s now in a really handy home to be a catcher I’m just looking to see whether the ball that he played has stayed up at the back of the rink too because that might come in handy it has so the New Zealand team has got the two best backs here yeah what a good shot he’s quite unlucky he’s really fat in the Target okay it’s interesting to see they’re just sort of playing that draw we just arriving we saw a couple ends ago Leon when called to drive he um he hit the mark well so it’s just trying to play this timing shot you can see you got to be so precise you get out there and it sort of just can go straight a little bit with that breeze well that I mean that fell into the ditch Andrew that’s quicker than I would have imagined from the the instructions he was given yeah I I think if you’re going to play that way you may as well just go straight at it you’re you’re three down you can remove Two Shots kill the Jack you’ve got best back it’s very it’s very unlikely it’ll go worse for them so so where’s this one going to end up just set come through just looking to get out past the head just in case any Jack movement good home the call a bit he’s playing that same way swinging trying to kill well he’s going to make something happen well here what a great shot Perfect all right so we’ll be back on the the two so of course no dead ends here we do respot which I know is never runs cup of two but I like it I think it brings another element of strategy into the gam and it helps make sure we get conclusions too I’m the exact same that’s exactly right it’s we’ve got so many matches to get through um especially the first few days uh you can’t afford not to have um respot all the players are used to it now it keeps the game flowing so um and we saw a couple of years ago how he Matty Lucas kill about seven ends at the Australian championships and uh I think that was that was one of the arguments for the race spot there because that was uh that was a long long long end yeah especially when the those final was played at uh 630 at night and an extra an hour and a half of the game was added on with killed ends it’s uh it makes for a late night but um fair play to him though they kept hitting him M and Chris leave 100% so Pat looking to try and draw the shot yeah Steve trous was uh good enough but uh how’s Pat going to go here just running through okay darl yeah sorry Val really needs to um play a good one with his first here this is absolutely huge this end because if South the South Australian team can’t do much they will be on the verge of a first up defeat it’s coming wants to work has it done enough probably not it’s a bit hard to tell from the angle I think it’s I’d expect Pat to draw closer than that one anyway the way he’s been playing and in this direction last time out he played a bomb that we’re probably considering the match winner if they do hold on and win this contest Pat all a hand’s out on a good line has he got the he’s done well what a great shot yeah and as you called Andrew Harry you’d back him to improve off that first effort and he’s subtracted just about a meter to sit two balls behind Jack and really put the pressure on here Daryl’s going to look to follow him down and just see if he can park up inside there might be a bit hot yeah got a feeling he may have been trying to se the ball out there but um he’s one so now going into the final end it is a 1612 lead to the New Zealand combination of Al Watson muso Holland Leon van boxel and Pat hallan they have won the last four ends of this match when they hadn’t won a two ends in a row at all so impressive what they’ve been able to do they lead it by four one to play and they should be mightily thrilled well they can really proud of themselves Val because what we’ve seen so far in this contest is that had been neck and neck it had been even it had been really really you difficult to make any solid predictions and then to go reel four ends in a row against a really quality South Australian you know forsome here they uh the New Zealand team Pat Holan and his crew can be really proud of themselves Leon van boxel played some really telling balls moso came and played a great one when the side really needed on the two Inns ago and Al Watson’s been putting some balls in some handy spot from lead so you as a combination they’ve done fantastically yeah they’ve combined well as a as a fome yep they certainly have did did what they needed to throughout the match and um but it’s not over we’ve seen stranger things happen Val uh four shots needed for the South Australian combination to draw Five For the Win yeah and uh while the first end was a five that was was one of the book ends what will the next book end be and there was a four picked up as well by the south Australian combination here so they know that they they can do it maximum of eight so anytime you’re within eight going into the last end you’re a chance you might be a Lloyd Christmas chance but you are a chance nonetheless well this is where the RO spot makes it really hard though you need you need to get it right the first time there’s often a two there’s almost always are two playing balls and there’s often a three but to get a four you need to have things go your way or you know be setting up ahead specifically for this outcome and they need to be past the Jack you can’t afford to be short if you’re short those balls might as well be irrelevant they’re only just getting in the way they need to have a healthy weight have you ever had a big last comeback Harry what was your biggest last end you picked up to win had a six or a seven no you’re testing me now Nick yeah I can’t really recall but I think I’ve once in a game of peirs picked up seven shots in the last two ends to win out of nowhere but um yeah not on the last turn never a sort of a a seven or an eight to to win or Draw there was one at the com games a couple of years ago and hope Ali for isn’t listening um because I think they were playing against Canada New Zealand or they were playing someone in a quarterfinal I think netted a seven on the F on the second last end to go six or seven ahead and then dropped a Full Count to lose there is the hooa we are done this is the last end anyway so no problems yeah I think it was the the Welsh team the one you’re referring to but yeah it was I guess the new zealands um just just to elaborate on that the the Welsh BL did play an absolute cracker trailing a jack about 2 m uh around a pack of balls to make a a seven or whatever it was so um you should have heard the Roar from the Welsh fans that were in the that were in lemington bar that day and I felt so sorry for Ali forso because he did absolutely everything he possibly could to help New Zealand win that match so Mark delivered another good shot there is the shot yeah favorites one but I’m struggling to see where they’re going to find a four here Harry yeah but maybe the front blue one counts for two but uh to try and hide Pat hullan bows mate so he he doesn’t get to deliver any maybe to have a chance but um the key here now is for Steven to to make this first one count there is still a chance he’s got the breeze behind it here yeah he needs a Sit okay counts might be in for potentially so what drama are we going to see in this Final End here at the broad Beach bows Club got another match in just under half an hour’s time yeah Leon looks quick here again depends what sort of action he’s going to get off that Wing one or that’s very helpful it helps he’s he’s got the right connection Rock and rolled almost back up the ground Andrew yeah he’s done well that is the shot okay Ste corrected his line looks to be under I’m okay with that though give yourself a chance to get to the Jack move things around yeah it was was a hard one but I think he the key was there to try and try and just draw the shot if he did draw a little touch or he was two but just another ball in the head give your skip a chance to make that score it’s going to make it tough now especially if Pat can uh put a another ball in the head on the left hand side of your screen and to the back there it around 8:00 7:00 8:00 is where the damage might be if South Australia are going to pull something out of the fire here there’s a collection of red balls balls of Mark tonen Steven TR are all sitting there in the slip Cordon but it’s a good shot that’s a perfect time does make it really difficult now yeah has to Trail the jack with one of these two balls now Daryl well third Steven TR is looking at this really closely here it’s a good effort draw the shot yeah good good call here so Leon said don’t worry about the shot I want one over here so can you get uh one yeah so Leon has asked for a ball to be sitting almost out with the furthest red ball to split those two red balls on the left hand side of your screen yeah if he does it really takes the traal off the table but um we’ll see what happens I wonder if there’s a little angle there off that shot ball or the second shot now um was a bit of an option to try and remove a few of the kiway balls well Skipper Pats throwing it all the way out there as suggested he’s got to be past the Jack though he’s not so the Hooter is gone this end will be completed yeah it like the option could be Nick he tries to Trail the back again to the bottom left of screen where you can see the three red balls it’s going to be very hard for his bow to go with it otherwise does he try and play weight through the second shot get back to the black ball and remove the two balls could he be lying three or four as you can see they’re looking at it now this this is the discussion that they’re having is how do we make four the problem is whether they need to also remove the ball at the furthest of right of screen but if they don’t I’d be inclined to go for the edge of that blue blue bow work back and get the black one and potentially hold a draw if not game well you can see there that’s what Daryl and Steven are talking about how do we do it you got one chance and again if you’re a skip these are the balls that you perhaps don’t dream of because you’ve got to do it to win the game yeah but gez you you you do dream about hitting them and making them work successfully so massive ball here darl on the that he’s playing trial white what’s he got he’s he’s got enough weight to work back to the other one but he’s just on a high line he was trying for the um for the blue ball back to the black one but it’s not going to be good enough it’s going to be a a win to the New Zealand combination yeah check the uh the final score there what they ended up with pretty sure it was one to south Australia so not enough three short of what they needed to tie it and 1613 in what was a brilliant performance from this New Zealand team of Al Wilson muso Halland Leon van boxal and Pat Hallam we’re going to wrap this up pretty quickly because we have got a quick turnaround for the next match and we’ got a shf some camera so Andrew howy thank you very much thanks Val nickim thank you as well pleasure as always mate we’ll see you very soon in just uh 24 minutes time for the next fours match between the teams skipped by Ryan bester and Thomas Webb
