In this their first match paired together, they took down the experienced European duo of Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald at Medinah Country Club.

The European Team are the reigning champions after winning at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in 2023. this is match number two a forsome match between the European team represented by Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia against the United States of America team represented by Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley first on the tea representing Europe Luke Donald it’s Don Al till Drive in the even numbered Halls just in case you’re wondering why they’re booing them they’re not it’s luk it’s boo Chicago resident of course has been for 15 years on the team representing the United States of America Keegan Bradley thanks Buddy says Serio put me on The [Applause] [Music] Fairway now Keegan does look a little nervous this boy does like a fidget let me tell you now he’s much quicker than he normally is here much quicker well you could see the sigh of relief there that’s a very good drive for your first shot in right upup goal well on Keegan Bradley really snatched the tea out of the ground there that wasn’t so difficult I think he’s just thrilled to be playing again isn’t he because he really hated being Vice Captain two years ago he did his job he was a great help to Captain col Montgomery but he’d much rather be out the uh doing what he’s doing [Music] now not his best but it’s okay door slightly a jar Mickelson Phil Mickelson playing in his ninth rder Cup first American ever to play nine he had the record along with Lanny Watkins Raymond Floyd and Billy Casper all played eight but melson now the oldtime record holder this is right out it not a bad spot [Applause] let’s go back to the first Donald excellent but perfect speed Gan Bradley this to win the hole fourth tentative but it’s understandable you don’t want to leave your partner a four footer back for the half so both matches all square all is with four the match is all square last Garcia can hit his t-shot don’t think they expected to wait such a long time taking a more direct line here going straight at it 79 and his hand oh he’s hit it heavy stff It Go course the only thing you can say that at least his partner is one of the best bunker blows in the world you know 75 with helping keep just crept into the bunker though it’s slightly on the D stand outside the bun one flag I definitely think hit that just just a comfortable cut and that’s a pretty awful forom record for Phil isn’t it 11 matches played he’s only ever won twice five defeats four half matches 15minute intervals in these matches and they ready match two is waiting for match one after that long wait for a ruling good shot from Phil and it’ be after Revenge because he’s already lost to Garcia and Donald back in 2006 and he played with David Toms [Applause] know a few people Sam that wouldn’t like this bunker shot you can see it’s going to come across the shoulder of the bunker so it is going to break a little bit from his right trouble is out of that lie almost aiming left ball a long way below his feet so he’s got to maintain his height here really tough bunker shot well tough for some but again like McDow he’s left that in a way step coming off the second [Applause] green I really couldn’t ask for better weather in this opening day of the ride a c start contrast to two years ago remember how unfortunate they were at Celtic Mana lashing rain for much of the first two days opening morning I think we managed to get in what was it six or seven holes and then sat out most of the rest of the day as the C flooded Julian TS out with this match Donald Garcia against Michels and Bradley gorgeous golfing conditions Jules oh it’s just fantastic yes if anything I think the breeze has dropped a little bit from earlier on P for a birdie Europe gang first downhill right to left for [Applause] Donald Keegan Bradley had an extraordinary Drive he drove it 349 yds up the third but just into the very light rough on the right hand side and melson’s 72 yd shot to the green was blocked out by an overhanging Branch so he had to play literally a chip and run all the way up has played it very good chart to here giving Bradley an uphill 30d Pat for the hole to go two up that w will not be conceded good aggressive part though left that might have gone in a little tester for fill he does have an ailles heel this is it always easier to put like this when you know it’s for the half inside right and firm still using the pencil grip nichon it then turns his hand on the [Applause] side makes the third shot at the fourth both teams have missed the green not too bad chance for Garcia here get the stone dead Americans about 6 ft for bar just checked up well slight advantage to America there now Donald thrs power on four Americans about 5 ft stay up beautiful pot beautiful butt Luke Donald imperative so this for the half Keegan Bradley two pretty confident PS like [Applause] keanon yeah second that the fifth Keegan having missed the fa way left that’s an excellent shot from Nicholson he couldn’t have put it in a better position for his partner go to Bradley’s third shot at the par five not his best that’s going to feed back down so big chance for the Europeans it’s amazing you can’t really see that slope on the television right Luke see it there no Donald this for Eagle Americans about 15 ft for birdie quite slow up this hill he come up that hill there excellent P oh my goodness me very unlucky from Donald but it’s a gimme Birdie the Americans got a good 15 18 ft for the half now melson he can a real Hammer blow if he knocks this one in there is for the half Americans one [Music] up good aggressive putt from Phil Michelson but it’s a win for [Applause] Europe f little little second shot to the Six coming up a little shy that’s all right Nicholson does hold more than his fair share of long PS there but this would be a great one to a good one to two putt now Garcia has got to lay this Stone dead if it goes in it’s a bonus it’s a birdie P to win the whole uphill left to right I think it may just go the other way at the end that wasn’t a great pu from sario there because the two part would probably have been enough it’s a little aggressive well that won’t be conceded so it’s going to be a three put from the Americans oh well judged there was a little bit of movement in that as you saw beautifully HED by Luke Donald [Music] Europe one up again go to seven and Garcia to go two up shaves the [Applause] hole all four matches close no one has in more than one up in any match eighth T that’s a seven iron for Sergio Garcia go 208 go asking it to go though Rory 7 and two for Phil [Music] right on line a little bit [Applause] long Americans just over the back keep going good speed but huge swing excellent pot there from Luke [Applause] Donald this the win the [Applause] hall not his best Mickelson’s already hold his put so this for a half and three well [Applause] done it’s probably just between a wedge and a soft nine I would think maybe when you want to just feather a nine9 in I suspect he might have the wedge there excellent shot excellent shot from Garcia 15 [Applause] ft Nicholson second shot to the nth from just 100 yards pretty Dandy as expected from that distance beautiful shot from Nicholson anyway this needs to go in oh that was so unlucky he read that beautifully it was left to right then right to left at the end great effort from Donald it was just aart the big chance of Bradley to get back to all square all square I think you could say he slightly pumped up the boy and why not reminds me of a pole vter the way he keeps moving backwards and forwards before he gets up to the ball thre or or a high jumper it’s amazing but when he does he hits it [Music] quickly not a bad shot at all from Bradley easy bunker shot 145 yards left for the third shot for the European at the 10th Garcia needs to make amends for a slightly Wayward drive only slightly get the ball up to the flag there’s a ridge just short of it magnificent shot from Garcia virtually stoned dead Americans in the back bunker great shot there drove it into the bunker so he’s redeemed himself say he’s probably got to try and land it maybe only just on the [Applause] green seem to be struggling to get any check out of these bunkers we couldn’t have played that much better fil still running 8 10 ft past still going [Applause] excellent from Bradley Donald for the half well done Luke two great fours there Max remains all square it’s a lovely hook it’s a little bit downhill all laid out before you can see the target very clearly he likes it oh just a fraction shot straight at the pin a good shot from [Applause] Garcia the first te for this match the crowd were chanting two major winners two maj major winners well major winner now has a chance to put it in close 138 yds okay Honor’s even there really just trying to get this to the top of the hill and it should just roll gently all the way down excellent Try by Donald it’s a pretty slippery little p downhill left to right allowing for a lot of break Bank Stop behind the hole there is uphill after the hole well that actually came back at it so beautifully judged pu could drop [Applause] though Garcia and Donald remain all square against Michelson and Bradley 11 holes played L Luke Donald’s feet [Music] here oh it’s on the slope now that should stop in the semir that was not a good shot ball was below his feet so it’s I was looking to go left or right but he’d be guarding against that that was disappointing from Luke mam leaves all around well Bradley’s obstructed by the trees in front here with the wind now starting to G really quite strongly it’s getting up towards a two Club wind here I think in the more exposed spot he’s just got to put this on the left side of the green sh he’s got to move it left to right or knock it pretty low up there to avoid the trees but that shot from Donald has made this a lot easier doesn’t have to go for the flag rolled back towards the front of the green though well done great work the unbeaten Garcia and Donald but in trouble here that’s an exceptional shot exceptional shot from [Applause] Garcia this for [Applause] birdie excellent lag from nichelson there it’s all he was trying to do Europeans probably 8 10 ft for the half Donald for the half he made a mess of it can he get Europe out of it here the cheers are building around here now for the Americans so America up and two Europe up and two we’re all level again the pendulum swings again the EB and floor rder Cup goal deep bunker in the front mashed [Applause] [Music] potatoes it’s a lovely t-shot from p and Bradley [Music] [Applause] that’s exactly where we saw unlucky there he thought he hit a good one just come up half a club L 13th and Serio Garcia deep bunker can’t see anything at the Target quality bunker shot from the [Applause] Spaniard Paul might still will be good enough to win this cuz Europe is still 4 and a half 5 ft away right in the middle of the hall too now they got the home fans cheering for the first time the US goal two up in a match Nicholson and Bradley now leading Donald and Garcia no poor shot on the last hole from Donald time to make amends two down must hit the green it’s leaking right again uhoh second to the power five 14th Europeans in the bunker right and two down oh he loves it he loves it be good he says oh and it didn’t go a little that’s kind of a break for the Europeans there that could so easily have carried another couple of yards well two Bly chances coming up at 14 Europe haven’t taken [Applause] theirs and haven’t even made sat of the par [Applause] oh and that one slips past he’s enjoyed himself out there though today Keegan Bradley back to the pair that have never been beaten in Ridder cup forams Garcia for a half and their record looks pretty shaky now as Nicholson and Brad go three [Applause] up Americans not taking any risks here melson has got 83 yards left sort of shot it normally knocks in close got to go there [Applause] this could be to end it I think he is slightly pumped up and remember this is only the first session on Friday morning this is not Sunday afternoon all these dreams have just come true instantly well we just seen two massive blows struck by the horse country fantastic shot by Jim Fury fantastic put from Keegan Bradley and to his credit now asking the galleries to quien down the unusual situation of course of the man on the green game first cuz he was further away now Donald’s got to hold this to keep the match alive [Music] it’s all over the first point is on the board and it goes to the USA Phil Michelson and Keegan Bradley have beaten Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia and inflicted a first ever forams defeat on the European pair four and three in the end a very convincing win in a match in which the Europeans were one up after eight but a
