Utah’s own and PGA Tour golfer Tony Finau tied his personal best at a major championship with a strong close to the 124th U.S. Open.

The 2024 U.S. Open was held at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina from June 13-16.

Finau had a strong final round on Sunday, June 16, and secured his best-ever placement at the U.S. Open and tied his top finish at a major. Finau tied for third place alongside Patrick Cantlay.

The Utahn shot three under par for a score of 67 on Sunday. Finau’s final round featured one eagle, three birdies, and two bogeys.

tonight yeah we’d have no Stanley Cup playoffs no NBA Finals but no problem because we had a thrilling final round at the US Open a triple bogy on Saturday looked to keep Tony feno from contending in the final round at Pinehurst but today he stuck around the top of the leaderboard recorded the best round of the day in the tournament it was a slow start for Fino though Bogie’s on two of the first four but he fired things up on the back nine beginning on 10 sinking that birdie putt to move his score to two under four back lead then over to 13 a chance at Eagle from 72 ft away punches this one with the wedge and it’s nearly perfect leaves him an easy birdie to move to three under on the 16th fow’s t-shot well it went in the junk so the fact that he was 12 feet away for par is nearly a miracle but he sinks it to save par and how’s this for a finish to eight to his round on the 18th his t-shot again in the yucky stuff but he gets a decent recovery onto the green 25 ft from the hole 25 ft no problem F now finishes with the long birdie to card a final round 67 finishes tied for third four under the best finish in his US Open career I knew I was going to need a special one a really special one today to to have a chance to win and I just didn’t get off to the start that I needed to um was one of those days where he kind of just started flat started out flat the swing wasn’t quite there putter putter didn’t feel great but I fought my way back how how cool is it to sit here on Father’s Day with sage on your lap yeah that’s the best you know walking off 18th green I always feel like a winner when I see my my wife and my kids so that’s uh that’s a win in my book and of course that’s what it’s all about especially on Father’s Day it was 25 years ago the pay Stewart won his second US Open title at Pinehurst number two the golf icon lost his life in a plane crash just months later well now Bryon dambo hopes to honor his golf hero with his second US Open title he would have to hold off a hot Rory maoy in Sunday’s final round Mary seeking his second US Open title as well and first major title since 2014 a birdie on 10 ties him for the lead Des Shambo keeping Pace a birdie on 10 to take back the lead we go to 12 Rory again to tie for the lead and sinks another birdie mooy took a two-shot lead on 13 with a birdie both players were tied at seven under and go three putt the Shambo on 15 first can’t believe it and then Rory on 16 these are the best golfers in the world putting like us it’s tough course so we go to the final stretch with both golfers tied to Shambo on 16 for the lead lips out another tough break for dambo on 17 another shot at the lead no just short we’ll go to Rory on 18 an incredible approach shot up on the Green gives him a chance to save par oh no he misses the gimy but remember there are no gimmies at Pinehurst number two It’s a cruel course Rory to the clubhouse of 500 to Shambo on 18 with a one shot lead but in trouble that’s not trouble at all in the bunker he hits what he called the best shot of his life setting him up so for a remakable putt for par and a victory at the US Open Bryson to Shambo is now a two-time US Open Champion his best pain Steward impression as for Rory a long decade without a major title continues and you can see here the disappointment as he watched that putt go in what a day at Piner Bryson enjoying every minute of it that’s pain right there baby that bunker shot was the shot of my life you know it was heartbreak for me at the PGA and I really wanted this one and and I turned the corner and saw was a couple back and I said nope I’m not going to let that happen I need to focus on figuring out how to make this make this happen and um I was a little lucky Rory didn’t uh make a couple putts that he could have coming in I had an amazing up and down in the last I don’t know what else to say it’s um it’s a dream come true the shambo’s dream comes true his second US Open he’s the 23rd golf forever to win the tournament twice he’s also the sixth straight American to win a major the longest such streak since 1981 82 and congrats to Zack Blair the Utah who finished tied for 26 which is the best finish in a major in his progolf career
