After his US Open win and some amazing approach shots down the closing holes we wonder if Bryson DeChambeau can fix my and your golf swing. This interesting set up works for him but will it work for us?

so I sat last night and watched Bryson dambo win the US Open and as much as people talk about Rory threw it away missing some puts down the stretch Bryson was unbelievable but it’s probably not the part of the game I’m going to discuss today that you might be thinking so everyone Raves about how far he hits the golf ball but what super impressed me was how good his iron play was into the green under pressure and how repeatable and it made me think about my game that I can stand there a lot of the time having hit a good t-shirt I kind of take dead aim at the Target and historically that’s been my shape kind of a little bit right to left sometimes find it hard to control the amount of shape which often led to me missing the target left so I’ve worked let’s say for me relatively hard on trying to control how I deliver that club face so that I can stand up there and hit more of this shot nice and accurate definitely taking some shape off and when I execute it like that I’m super super happy but it definitely feels for me like there’s a lot going on so I thought you know what what if I tried Bryson’s little secret setup is it going to help me be a better iron player and more importantly is it going to help you be a better iron player and potentially driver of the golf ball and it’s very interesting what he does with his lead arm because obviously the lead arm into the shaft and the club head is a real key component to the golf swing and being able to deliver the club normally and kind of neutral into the ball so I would say when I set up to the golf ball I tend to get my hands on pop the club down behind the golf ball and I don’t really think a lot about that lead arm but it’s quite interesting what Bryson does differently to me so I’m going taught you through it and hopefully you might be at the range now working through this or sat at home and this might be a little light bulb moment for you so what he talks about is he doesn’t just let his arm hang down he fully internally rotates the top half of the arm and then externally rotates the lower arm the forearm and the wrist and then puts the hand on and he said he feels from there like that left arm stays very stable during the golf swing and when I make a few practice swings there I can feel I don’t want to do that naturally but from there definitely feels for me like there kind of less rotation through the bottom of the Swing which would definitely make me feel like I can’t miss left which actually for me might get me a bit straighter and get the ball if anything a little baby fade so I think it’s always great making a few practice rings and just pay pay attention to what you feel but I mean this little change at setup might be 2 three seconds for you to do so I’m going to aim The Club at the Target internally rotate the top half externally rotate the lower half of my arm take dead aim and just make a swing oh that is a very different feel for me and it’s a very very straight golf shot now when we look at trackman there we can see lots of Club speed low points spin ahead so the club’s traveled down pretty near the middle of the club face path very slightly from the inside Club face very slightly open but very neutral and a straight shot and Good carry at 164 and it is funny and this is where golf’s a great game that definitely didn’t feel for me setting up like that like the ball would do that that definitely felt for me because it definitely makes my left hand feel a little bit what would traditionally call weaker on the club so a little bit more that way on the club and that actually felt like I might deliver it more that way but very different feel in that lead arm I always say with my clients as well sample size of one is lovely but I wouldn’t judge something just solely on that so again get that club there internally rotate externally rotate left arm definitely feels kind of comfortably straight not stiff and then again put a swing on it and even though that one’s not quite as good still very straight again speeds up low points good paths good club fa is closed this time but a very very small amount it definitely feels like it’s difficult to get the club face in a poor position from there so when I get in my normal position with the lead arm feels quite easy for me to kind of move that club face a lot whereas when I do [Music] that kind of feels very difficult to get much of a change in the club face and obviously where that club face comes back is so key so if potentially I’ve got that variation in my swing whereas this change you see it’s maybe a third or a quarter of the amount that I could normally do so interesting isn’t it and I do admire Bryson you know I think some of the stuff he talks about I think he does definitely get a little bit of interest in his golf game but he’s not afraid of doing it differently so let’s get top part of the arm bottom part of the arm get there take dead aim put a swing on it oh yes yes Bryson you might just just have fixed my iron swing so we can see there again 88 M hour Club head speed low Point ahead path and face a little bit different but still giving me a very very straight golf shot so like I said there has Bryson the Shambo fixed my iron play with that little change at setup that feels very simple to do I just need to think about it and then stand up oh that feels so easy so easy and again lovely straight shot good club head speed very neutral delivery and good distance now it is interesting isn’t it because that’s definitely not something that personally I would ever really have worked on you know it’s more about for me my setup’s decent and can focus on how I need to deliver the club to influence the ball whereas that change at setup kind of feels like I don’t need to think about how I deliver the club I just swing the club and the ball just goes straight oh it’s there again that just feels like I can aim at the middle of the green and it might not go bang in the middle of the green every time but with that kind of delivery and that consistently in distance I’m definitely not going to miss anything too much side to side and I think if you’re watching and comment below you know I want you guys to interact with these videos you know let me know if you’re enjoying the videos let me know what you’d like me to do a video of you know I’m here making content to help you guys play better but something like that that little change at address I love things that you can build into your setup not so you’ve got too much to think about but it’s nice having a little checklist at address so that you can keep the goal swing as simple as possible and if you can just stand up there and hit straight powerful shots on a regular basis like that it does make the game much more simple so like I said at the start of the video most people Rave about you know Bryson’s driving to the golf ball they talk about kind of the odd way he puts but remember golf is about being powerful and repeatable and if following someone like Bryson’s examples and this won’t necessarily be for everybody but if you can make that setup position easier for you to deliver the club consistently and take a bit of shape off the ball it’s hard to hit the ball dead straight every time but when you’ve got excessive shape and you then play for it and don’t get it sometimes you get in trouble for what you feel is actually a very good golf shot just not what you were hoping was going to happen but like I said if we can get there internally rotate the upper arm externally rotate the lower arm and the hand and then set up has Bryson fixed my iron play do you know what he just mited them

  1. This is a good video don’t get me wrong, but I think as an amateur golfer, this is where golf instruction can mess with you so much. I’ve read two Ben Hogan books and his instruction is for the arms to rotate the opposite way Bryson is suggesting. Obvious two highly decorated golfers but it’s like which is right lol

  2. I watch Bryson's youtube challenges (he's game for anything) and usually performs well even with inferior equipment….It was because of him I switched to Cobra one length irons…which has improved my irons (as I used to have a problem with getting ball position right….Bryson and Tommy Fleetwood are my favourite golfers ….made up for him winning another Major….

  3. Interesting adjustment. Most of the YT instruction is focused on the trail arm at setup — put forearm in the “give blood” position, then externally rotate hand to take the grip. What are your thoughts on that? Use both? Or just do Bryson lead arm?

  4. Would like to see more videos on chipping & pitching — specifically swing path and proper rotation.

  5. I have been doing this since Bryson gave Paige some driving tips and yes it has helped but I believe Degness222 has helped me with my diagnosis for my golfers elbow, have played through the pain for last couple of months, now pain is easing, game improvement as well.

  6. Steve Johnstone did a lesson on this back last year.i was so inconsistent with my irons I gave it a try.
It feels a bit weird and it won’t suit everyone but I can now hit my irons so much better so why not give it a go.

  7. Hey Ali, your ball strike on the club was so much central than normal I thought. On to something there.
