there is kind of an asterisk to that I want to talk about that coming up in just a bit I’m still on the bandwagon of college sports as apparently Dan Hurley is who declined the Lakers offer yesterday uh I was happy about that a reported 70 million over six years instead of flying out to Los Angeles out west he is staying in stores Connecticut to go for that threee hasn’t happened since the wound days he was actually the first one to do it since Billy Donovan in the Florida Gators back in 2006 and 2007 but I’m still on the bandwagon of college sports not that I don’t like the NBA or the NFL or the MLB or other professional leagues but still like college more I want to talk about that coming up in just a bit how you doing man good good to be here this morning how’s your morning going how’s your uh week going this far Sun’s Up I mean it’s it’s uh we’re getting to that time of the year where the guess we get a little more sunlight days are longer I mean uh the uh it’s almost fully fully out right now as we uh begin the show that’s not uh not always the case and I guess we got a full field set now for the College World Series we’ll get into that but I think this Caitlyn Clark Story is still what uh what people are talking about as we move uh move through a a second day of the work week if you will hey uh speaking of that uh NBA Finals crank back up this week game three as they move Spring de Country Club too yeah or he will but he can’t wi he can’t like he can’t win all four or I guess five technically Majors this year right because one’s already happened and he didn’t win correct he did not win The Masters right so no he did won Master I’m saying he won the Masters won there’s a major he did not win this year that’s already P Championship where he got arrested uh okay y y so no there’s four four majors no he but he could win the US Open and he could win the Open Championship and have three of the four but no he can’t have the uh the Grand Slam so check out US Open they’re in what was it the sixth and seventh inning that’s center fielder for NC State hits a home run then makes a great snare the following inning in the seventh and that was all she wrote as Georgia goes down 8 to5 they had a great season and uh one of the best players in the game but not to be as uh the SEC cannot get to five teams this year Condon hits his 37th home run in the ninth inning last night uh that player that you referred to as one of the best could see him still winning the golden spikes the way he’s just been for uh that team All Season West Johnson a tremendous year uh for the Bulldogs just not enough to get him over the top I think it’s state I think I heard it was their third or fourth uh College World Series appearance under that coach so again the team that knocked you out when you had Uh Kevin cops a few years ago and a team that now like you said puts it at four four still the SEC uh has not gotten to five teams I mean four teams is nothing to to snot but the fact that it’s just an ACC and SEC again is yep is pretty uh pretty insane the matchups are as followed uh this starting this Friday North Carolina takes on Virginia two ACC teams and then Tennessee takes on Florida State uh that games those both those games are on Friday and then on Saturday Kentucky takes on NC State and Texas A&M takes on Florida uh the betting man if you were again going to get on the BET Sarah app you probably be better off going with an SEC team even though if you don’t want to based on the track record of recent success from SEC squads if I’m going to pull for an SEC team it’s going to be uh Kentucky if it’s an ACCC team I’m probably going to go with North Carolina I enjoyed Chapel Hill a couple years ago those fans were nice really really thought it was a good time uh honey cut still on that team he’s fantastic I think he was a freshman on that team two years ago but uh if that’s kind of how I’m looking at it with Evansville getting knocked out by the balls Tommy yeah and I think these are some tasty matchups I mean if you want brand name in college baseball the only thing missing is the Razer backs I mean you’ve got them uh you you ran through them there so I think this going to be a fun College World Series I know that we get less inclined to make an appointment TV but you look at you look at every one of those eight names there teams that have been there before there’s teams that have been there a lot um this could you know as far as brand name and power uh names in college baseball uh these these are a great group I just wish the Razer backs were were one and the lightning rod of the group is Tennessee and Tony vello not just because he’s your assistant he had a pretty uh I don’t know if he he did would probably be the right word with his press conference comments following a win this wasn’t following a loss which was kind of funny but following a win uh so I want to talk about some of the things he had to say on that uh because I thought it was uh it was quite interesting we’ll come back to the Caitlyn Clark stuff because I think it is uh something to note that there still is a possibility of her ending up on the the roster due to an injury we’ve seen before uh and I I think about more men side of things when I go through Olympic teams where a guy is forced out not forced out but elect to uh stay back in the States because of an injury uh that might be something that the US Women’s National team has to deal with too plus there’s a uh a story a too I want to get into here on a bandwagon Tuesday and Caitlin Clark playing the upcoming Olympics the one player that is interesting that people should keep their eye on in this conversation is Chelsea Greg when she was healthy a season ago best point guard in the world she has not played a WNBA game yet this season because of a lower leg injury if for some reason she’s not able to return but they expect that she will or if any other member of the back court that has been reportedly named to that roster has any kind of an injury I would expect that Caitlyn Clark would be the backourt player that could get added to this roster most of you if not all of you have no idea who Chelsea Gray is to be forthcoming I have no idea who she is could tell you what team she played for can tell you what college she played for didn’t know who Rebecca Loa was either until I watched a little bit of ESPN yesterday but every single one of you I say every most if not all of you know who Caitlyn Clark is and again had an opinion one way or another her being reportedly left off this USA roster this would be something what what are you saying it’s not reportedly she was left yeah um so what this would be something that again could be like a the the back door way of of getting it on not that you’re rooting for injury like I I’m never rooting for injury in this case but I think people would be happy if she found her way onto the Team USA roster and it sounds like that that’s a I don’t know if I’d go as far to say legitimate but it sounds like at least a possibility maybe not probability but a possibility still and you know that was brought up yesterday in our discussion that you know sometimes things happen players become unavailable roster spots open up I I don’t know the uh you know the rules for the Olympic rosters inside and out when they have to be set and you know if there’s alternates I you know you know I need to I guess brush up on some of that but you know the possibility of someone being physic Ally unable to go you know remains and you could uh certainly see maybe after some of the push back some of the blowback her getting in there the the only argument I’ve heard that or let me back up the argument I can I continue to hear and that persist is well they don’t want her on the roster if she’s only going to play a handful of minutes that she’s not amongst the uh the best guards because everybody say well she’s not she’s one of the 12 best players or she’s not well it doesn’t really matter is she one of the best two three four at her position I don’t know how many guards Don Staley’s going to carry on the team but that’s really the question is how many how many ball handlers out there are better than her I’m not saying she’s the best ball handler in the world and she sits on the bench and only plays a handful of minutes and doesn’t score a lot of points I think that’s I don’t think that’s going to create a lot of blowback um maybe I’m wrong about that but there’s this fear there seems to be from everyone I hear arguing the other side of this coin is well they don’t want to put her on the roster to to be in a Christian lener type role where she’s only going to get a handful of minutes I don’t think that derailed or ruin Christian lner’s pro career to you um and Christian lner was surrounded by I don’t know guys like Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson and Larry Bird and you know you just keep going down the Charles Barkley just keep going down the list on that dream team this is not the Dream Team uh the reality is with or without probably anyone of those 12 you could you could replace any of those 12 are they still going to win the gold medal or should they will they still be the favorite to win the gold medal absolutely so um I think this is a missed opportunity to promote women’s sports David and Alma points that out uh as we had several people pointed that out yesterday on the the McClary Daniel hotline so just keep an eye on that uh possibility it’s not 100% set in stone one way or another but uh it could happen now Clark is not only getting asked about her professional career college days but even current events like Dan Hurley electing to stay at Yukon she had some thoughts on that he had his choice I mean obviously I have no idea what the conversations were but I really admire him I I love his intensity I think the way he coaches the game is amazing the way he coaches his players is amazing and holds them accountable I mean really gets the most out of them I’ve really loved watching them over the course of the last couple years and cool he’s say in college basketball I think he really loves it and I think he loves being around those young men and obviously he makes them great so I’ve been a big fan of his and big fan of his program and they’ve been fun to watch now I know that’s still in the sports sector but I do find it uh interesting how when athletes reach a certain level of popularity and prominence they get asked about everything under the sun politics pop culture whatever and again that was in a sports question it was not in the female side of college basketball but the men’s side I thought she gave a fine answer there um but it is going to be interesting to watch her media uh conversations develop not just about the basketball sort of things tommmy but as I said legitimately everything under the sun right so you’re measuring every word she has to say right that’s what you’re saying and you don’t want her the on the Olympic team I mean I I just don’t understand this logic by the committee that someone that the at least the domestic world I don’t know about internationally and globally but everyone’s paying attention to her reaction her words why would you not want that kind of attention and publicity when female sports are always begging for attention and publicity that’s what makes no sense about this let’s put it this way when you have young men I say young men let me rephrase when you have young boys that are wearing her Jersey then you know you you’ve changed something these aren’t just like Iowa kids that you see in whatever Hawkeye Fieldhouse or wherever she played you’ve got young boys that are asking their parents in Indianapolis and in the Indiana area or anywhere close can we go see this game with Caitlyn Clark tonight not LeBron James not Steph Curry can we go watch Caitlyn Clark pretty wild and I never thought I’d say that in 2024 to be honest nope and uh I just think it’s a real missed moment for female sports forget just basketball forget the Olympic team you know if you want to Garner and and further female sports just think you you you fumbled the ball here on on this one is uh is my uh at the goal line at the go I don’t know if you’re at the goal line necessarily there will be Finals uh maybe a coach doing something another player than like I’ve got a list about 10 to 15 that I’ve kind of chocked up quote unquote Revenge tours I I’ll kind of give you context to what that is opponent or the postseason opponent that knocked him out there are several I have listed and some are over the course of several years some are over the course of the Season before I think one of the most notable ones is Michael Jordan finally defeating the Detroit Pistons in 1991 in route to his first NBA Finals appearance now you remember they lost to Magic in game one and then they won the next four and ended up winning that series over a very elderly Los Angeles Lakers but uh to go through because what had happened at the time is the Pistons got over the Celtics hump they finally did that and Chicago couldn’t get over that Detroit Piston some and they finally did that and again Michael won his first NBA finals in 1991 that’s definitely one that stands out to me as a revenge tour him finally getting revenge on Bill anir Isaiah Thomas they walked off the court early Michael still ticked about that to this day but that’s one that definitely is of of note to me best revenge tour I can think of is the 1999 Arkansas Razer backs taking on the Tennessee Volunteers at home um that that’s the one that hits home for me that’s the one I remember after the way things ended 98 in Knoxville we know that and then Arkansas wins by ironically the same score in fville tear down the goal poost we all know the legend carry to Dixon Street all those things but um that’s the best I guess I don’t know that’s a revenge tour or it was a Revenge game and that’s the one that you know when this topic was on the list for today I thought well that that one stands out to me as the 99 Razer backs that’s a great one uh you think about how about Iowa and LSU women’s basketball with Caitlyn Clark think about two years ago losing the n naal championship and then this past season uh beating them in route to another national championship appearance now they lost to an undfeated South Carolina team you brought up Don Staley earlier who’s just an incredible coach that would be another good one uh Lebron James has one so they lose to the Met Dallas Mavericks in 2011 and then the following year Unfortunately they beat my Oklahoma City Thunder he was on very much a revenge tour that next season because he was heavily criticized he did not play well in the finals the year before unfortunately he torched James Harden Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook that following year uh the Dallas Mavericks who I mentioned had lost to the Miami Heat in 2006 Shaquille O’Neal Dwayne Wade and then got the better of dwade LeBron Chris BOS and Company in 2011 some of these are stretched again over time uh several years Christian uh your Chicago gubs got revenge against the uh the billy goat I guess they broke the curse they broke the curse took a century but yeah that happened uh for the Great Bambino and the Boston Red Sox they got revenge after I say Revenge they technically did get revenge to the New York Yankees think about a curse but yeah yeah you think about the 2003 ALCS where Derek Jeter walked that thing off in game seven I believe and then the following season they’re down three games to none only time in the history of professional sports that a team has ever come back from three games to one I think there was a hockey one after the fact but that was the first time and they got revenge on not just the New York Yankees but baseball 100 plus years later those are again those are stretched out 100 plus years Tommy but still uh revenge for either a curse or something that they felt they’ve been wronged by all these years later so you bring this up in the context of Caitlyn Clark and her comments and how or her coach’s comments I guess I should say when her words about they’ve uh what was it they’ve awoken the bear or exact woke up a monster up a moner side said that Clark had sent her via text so you you get you went through this list of of examples uh what what would Define waking up the monster for her her to win Rookie of the Year they’re not going to win they’re they’re a bad basketball team they’ve got young players they’ve got her and I can’t remember the the young lady from South Carolina uh Leah Boston I believe it is who’s fantastic as well um this is not a team that’s going to compete for WNBA title but but for her to win Rookie of the Year and change that 37 field goal percentage to something that is you know um like 45 I’m not asking her to shoot 50 plus perc but like that’s that’s perfect like for example 1980 maybe it’s one of the best basket it’s the most important year for college ba or NBA basketball in the history of the league it’s 1980 Michael Jordan excuse me Magic Johnson Larry Bird both them are fighting for the Rookie of the Year bird wins it um and they were both fantastic I don’t necessarily think that kayin Clark has to have those type of numbers but if she improves and continues to get better which we’ve seen over the course of her career then I think that would be going on in quote unquote waking up the monster Revenge to her and you know I don’t know who it’s revenge against because all these examples you’ve given which were were great were one team beating another they’re all men too huh they’re all men too I don’t have any like female examples right so she’s been jilted by a committee and maybe by Don Staley but you know unless Don Staley enters professional basketball I don’t believe she’s going to be playing South Carolina anytime soon and Don Staley is just one of the members of that committee um there’s probably some of these more veteran players at a hand in keeping her out it at least I think it would not be a stretch to presume that so I mean you know all these examples which were which are great you know it’s one team it’s it’s it’s they AV versus Goliath or it’s you know it’s whatever um you know it’s going to be hard to to Really aim your revenge or your anger at at one individual so I think at that point you’re just mad at the world I’m just going to beat them all I’m just you know I’m going to I’m going to find a way that I cannot be denied just based on the results and um you know I’ll be interested to see how she responds if if indeed at the end when it’s time to throw it up in Paris if she’s not on that roster the the guy always com it back to and it’s not a fair comparison because it’s the greatest basketball player to ever exist is Michael Jordan and maybe the way that he was initially treated by some uh veterans in the league we got to remember this is not uncommon for rookies that enter the league in popular popularity and whatever sport to try and get roughened up by other players it happens in the National Football League there are certain defensive ends and D tackles that just want to kill the star popular quarterback that’s a first round pick Caleb Williams his head’s going to get taking off this year that’s just the reality of the situation Kaylin Clark’s the most popular player in the WNBA right now one of the most popular players in all the United States and there’s a lot of people that don’t like that people didn’t love a lot of players now the fans love Michael Jordan when he entered the league but there were a lot of older veterans at the time weren’t a fan as the same was with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson you got this this this hick from French Lick and then this smiling Assassin from East Lancing and and they didn’t like either of those guys this is people are acting like this is uncommon in professional sports this happens all the time well and it’s part of you know I don’t want to say the script because I don’t think it’s predetermined but it’s part of the drama of sports we we forget because we live in this at times we fall into this utopian trap that everything is a Level Playing Field everything’s fair and it’s just pure competition um that’s not the the way the world Works no corner of the world have I found in my adult lifehood that everything is fair um you know and at the end of the day sports is are entertainment and I think we forget that so sometimes these these plots and these story lines well I’m not suggesting this was predetermined or written to create drama and entertainment that’s the end result and sometimes we need to accept it and hey it’s going to make the story even better down the road because at the end what do we want to be I mean are you is the Indiana Fever or Caitlyn Clark I mean to some that’s their team and that’s their end all be I don’t think that’s where either of us fall but we’re interested because why it’s entertaining and in the end Caitlyn Clark being jilted or left off or snubbed or uh whatever could create an even better story uh for all of us to follow and be entertained by and I think that’s what uh has gotten lost in kind of the reality of all of this think of the uh entertainment value when Tom Brady left the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and they were able to win a Super Bowl and think about the the parallel with him and Bill belich that will remain till the end of both their days and probably past that for that matter uh think about the entertainment value of some great rivalries over the years like the New York Knicks and Spike Lee versus Reggie and the Indiana Pacers like the the entertainment of of those two talking trash to one another or the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers or Dallas or the Dallas and and the Eagles and and Buddy Ryan when they were you know literally trying to break each other’s legs um that’s one that came to mind a minute ago was the Cowboys and the Eagles back in the 90s I think one of the issues and I I saw this um when when I’m when I’m watching the dynamic of Clark and Angel ree um and I think about the dynamic of let’s say Tom Brady Pon Manning or or Michael Jordan Magic Johnson the greatest rivalry to ever exist uh in order for it to be a great rivalry the opposing player has to be on equal grounds um from a PO in my opinion a popularity and a um just um Talent standpoint I don’t think Rees is as good as Angel Clark now magic and bird were neck and neck um Manning was not the equivalent of Tom Brady I think we saw that now he didn’t have the same pieces around him so maybe he can make an argument there I just don’t know if that rivalry it will still be a rivalry don’t get me wrong but I almost think that they’re G they came in together they matched up in college twice um I just almost wish that agel Reese got a little better and got some more attention because that’s going to make that rivalry better moving forward I don’t know if that could happen but I don’t see them on the same playing field not only from a definitely not a popularity standpoint but from a talent standpoint either but you wanted Arkansas and Kentucky to play twice this year 100% why did you want that the entertainment value you keep referred to so Caitlyn Clark and Angel ree should play I don’t know how many times is the maximum in the WNBA Schedule but that’s how many times they should play 100% And and 100% it’s it’s it’s a entertainment TV it’s and you hope it you know no one roots for a fight but if it turns into the Celtics and the Pistons from the Eastern Conference Finals in 1989 or whatever I’m okay with that why do we remember and still talk about Bill Lane beer we spent some time on him last week why do we still do that 30 30 years later 35 years later because it was entertaining you know at the end of the day you know we don’t watch sitcoms the way we used to watch you know cheers and Dallas and notot Landing those things that were appointment TV for my parents um you know it’s just not it’s not that that same world we live in I don’t know if it was Survivor or the news or what but we changed somewhere around 20 years ago to where we’re about conflict and drama and reality TV I think I think Survivor was at the beginning of all of this the the TV show because it had conflict and drama and it brought it mainstream and now we crave it in our news coverage our Sports coverage it’s crossed over to that so you know we you know I embrace it you know Chuck brought up the point yesterday that you know past all these live sporting events what’s the number one rated TV show it’s WWE it’s wrestling it’s not even real it’s plotted it’s scripted and people eat it up you know it’s a b multi-billion dollar industry because it’s what entertaining and it’s got good guys versus bad guys and it’s got plot lines and um and for those that follow it you know they pick sides Sports hi far from that I’m not saying that the games are scripted but we have to embrace when these natural things happen that create these opportunities to make it more entertaining and that’s what this Caitlyn Clark moment in time is is going to do Chuck and Greenwood texting on the McClary Daniel hotline uh my age if we wanted conflict and drama we would watch the The A Team the not Bradley Cooper and Liam niss a team the I guess Mr T Mr T if I had to uh guess back in the day CH or Chas and Van beeren says the LSU vers South Carolina women’s game will also be a remember that was also fun watching Kim Moki Robinson and Don Staley’s teams uh go at it with Boston and Reese that was intense and didn’t necess expect that during the course of that SEC Championship game but yet that’s what we were talking about on Monday morning yeah and and it all began a year a year prior and don’t think that Kim M isn’t a big part of the nucleus of this the Catalyst uh where it began she’s a character she’s entertaining she’s interesting you have an opinion about Kim M I don’t know anybody that’s me you know with Kim Moy you either love Kim Moy or you hate Kim Moi those she’s a character and I I think we forget this sometimes in sports that you know there is an entertainment factor and it’s not just pure unadulterated competition you know that’s you know I sit down to be entertained ever step foot in a gymnasium did and that’s Johan wooden when I guess they won seven straight back in the UCLA days he’s just trying to get the three straight this upcoming season yeah and um you know three straight I don’t know if that’s the reason you come back but you know you have an opportunity to do something that hadn’t been done in 50 years or whatever it’s been so um I don’t know if they can repeat that the the world of of college basketball and professional basketball I don’t say the lines are blurred but they have merged closer together than ever before because of nil and now with this revenue and profit sharing that’s coming I wonder though and we we had U some conversation about this yesterday how does a a team like Connecticut who does not have a Powerhouse football program and a power for conference that’s not going to have the revenue sharing that counterparts in the SEC AC uh certainly the Big 10 Big 12 you know we’re talking 202 $22 million a year of the TV Revenue that’s going to be shared how does a Big East School not just Yukon but Big East and all these other you know I don’t call them non-football schools but their revenue base isn’t uh nearly as strong from the football side how do they compete in basketball down the road I question I would think that’s a conversation at least between the ears of Dan Hurley he’s had because I mean Yukon you know had success and they were close to getting to the College World Series uh this year made the Super Regional got beat by Florida State um their women’s and men’s basketball programs speak for themselves but they don’t have a football program that’s bringing in you know 75 8090 million a year to the budget there’s not a big a a huge Big East TV contract so I wonder if we’re getting ready to to really see more separation like we’ve seen in football in the world of basketball can a can a school like Yukon five years from now compete the way they are now uh because you know money makes the world go around and I just wonder with you know we’re we’re talking about this College World Series it’s four ACC teams and four SEC teams you know I like it because I’m an SEC fan and that’s where the powers of college baseball are but it’s not a national sport is college basketball maybe faced with some of the same issues and I just wonder how much that was on Dan Hurley’s mind and really how far away is the NBA and college basketball when you you look at what seems to be a shrinking roster size expanded staff sizes uh Chuck brought up the point yesterday and he’s he’s correct that the only that the biggest difference is in college basketball the head coach is got and when he says this is the starting lineup that’s it um you know in in the pros it’s it’s different but I I just wonder if you know I don’t think the lines are blurred or have crossed but Ty I think they’re merging a lot closer together in college basketball and professional basketball as we move forward yeah Chuck the joke yesterday can you imagine if Dan Hurley told LeBron James to shut up I mean I I honestly can because I think Hurley has that personality I don’t think he’s going to back down from anyone that would probably not go well and there would be some Mal content between those but here here’s a kind of another layer of this that I was thinking about last night if you’re LeBron James and this is the person that you were supposedly trying to get to become your head basketball coach and you’re the behind the scenes general manager how should you feel right now that a guy decided not only to turn down one of the best franchises in the NBA but turn down a chance to maybe coach the second aggressive player of all time does that say is that an indictment of you does that say something about you I would think so people would have crawled to Washington to coach the 40s something year old Michael Jordan and now it sounds like they’re going to wind up with Leon’s podcast buddy JJ reick which let me tell you something there is a giant difference between Dan Hurley and JJ reic when it comes to basketball Acumen when it comes to Improvement when it comes to just the understanding of what it takes to win I don’t know if he would have translated there’s only one coach in college and NBA history that have won both the NBA title and the college basketball national championship it’s Larry Brown it’s not easy to do there’s been guys that have come and translated that have a little bit of success but yeah I think I think LeBron James has to look at himself in the mirror after this a little bit too and say he won’t oh that’s probably true as well never his fault never going to be his fault so all right that’s where we’re at right now what do you think McClary represent all eight teams um is this good for college baseball uh we were talking yesterday about the demise of the Pack 12 and really how this has become even more of a regional sport in the last few years Bruce stands with prad kof fishing he’s in here with us for our normal Tuesday chat Bruce I’ll start with you is this good for college baseball that only two teams and TI what did you say yesterday 1948 or something was the last time this happened yeah it’s the last time that you two conferences and that was even before eight teams so it’s it’s never happened since the College World Series moved to eight teams Tommy Bruce is this good for college baseball I I mean I think for the Casual Observer it’s probably not I think like I’m obviously I’m a Tennessee fan if Evansville would have beaten Tennessee and made it I think that have been a compelling team uh because no one probably even heard of Evansville purple Aces until the last few weeks uh I think a lot of been like Oral Roberts a lot of people would have been vot uh pulling for him the underdog there are no underdogs uh even though kuy’s never been to Omaha these are all power Conference teams big state schools uh there’s just there’s unless you’re just a college baseball fan or you’re a fan of one of these schools probably not a compelling reason to watch yeah I think uh it was people are going to disagree with this but I think it was good Michigan won the national championship last year um the sec’s dominance is known throughout that sport um the SEC has been featured in every single college football playoff since its Inception in 2014 you’re talking yeah football um and I think the reason I bring up the football is because again you want you don’t want Sports to be Regional um and as as fun as the SEC dominance in baseball is to talk about um and the acc’s had some great teams as well you want to grow the sport we’ve talked about growing the WNBA with Caitlyn Clark and and bringing in new faction new audience that you’ve never had uh college baseball I think Chuck brought this up yesterday Tommy that was it like 1.6 1.7 million viewers for for College World Series game I mean that’s pretty minimal um you would like that number to increase I don’t I bet the finals is a little bit more than that um but they want to grow the sport and you don’t do that by just having basically what like nine or 10 states being a part of of that baseball dominance I don’t know how you do it with the the disolve in of the Pack 12 and the sports that like Michigan Ohio and and up top it’s just really hard to play baseball in early February but that’s just kind of where where we are right now with the sport so I don’t know how you can say it’s good maybe I yield too often to a business approach on these type of matters but each sport as we’re going to go into Revenue sharing Mo models um need to bring something to the table um and I’m not saying that baseball should you know carry its own weight because I don’t know that that’s going to be possible but there can’t be a you know a zero when it comes to the negotiating table for the TV contracts it’s it’s got to be something and um you know when the NCAA goes back to the table to negotiate rights with ESPN for the College World Series moving forward these audiences need to be large enough to bring value so there’s Revenue to share so maybe I’m leaning too much on the business side of it but I don’t think it’s good for baseball because uh you’ve got two time zones that are involved more or less I guess let’s see the the Western most team would be what Texas A&M in this field yeah here’s here’s the bottom line Tommy with college baseball the SEC has put importance on it so you see the coaches from Corbin making 1.9 million there’s Bianco and uh LSU coach make 1.6 batell makes a million and a half A&M makes a million three I think Van Horn somewhere in there million three million four there’s value uh by the SEC on baseball by what they’re paying their coaches there there’s no other conference that pays their coaches like that so you’re going to get the best coaches uh you see the facilities that are happening uh either historic facilities or the upgrades and Facilities so you know I don’t think we should be surprised to see SEC continuing dominance because they value it they’re putting their money there yep and uh it’s pretty impressive that the SEC once again has four teams almost had five teams Georgia goes down to NC State last night U but yeah I I don’t know how you can realistically look at this field and say this is good for college baseball Tommy no I uh I think long term you can’t leave you know two time zones completely you know we’ll we’ll see what the audiences are uh for this here in you a couple of weeks but I can’t imagine there’s going to be uh you know record setting College World Series uh viewing audiences uh for this and you know you think about it you know well that’s not good for the here and now how about the seven8 N 10y old uh are they going to you know be interested in college baseball I don’t know maybe I’m carrying that thought too far but um I becoming pretty obvious based on who’s left we just talked about four SCC teams uh still got Kentucky I mean still got Tennessee number one in the pradco Pyramid of power I don’t see any way that the the one seed and the team that uh had a little bit of trouble with Evansville but prevailed isn’t the top team out of the SEC in the field of eight at the College World Series my only struggle was if Tony vell’s rant would get its own position this week in the in the pole we got that clipped I’m gonna play an exer that it’s six minutes long so I can’t play the full theme that’s epic is he trying to fire up his team or something it’s just passion you know you want your coach to feel that way but yeah Tennessee’s number one gotta he should be feeling good right now but I guess you know all right so Tennessee one Kentucky number two again this week I don’t think there’s any doubt about that take out Oregon State they play NC State on Saturday yeah I mean the the the way these teams play is so different Tennessee had 14 home runs in three games seven in its Clincher Kentucky won a 10 0 and a 3-2 game Oregon state scored two runs in Lexington that’s that’s impressive yeah they got some arms well Kentucky first time they ever make a College World Series uh Manon just that I don’t know if you obviously you call it Tony speech he also had a very emotional post game press conference or not press conference but conversation uh he if you’re going to cheer for an SEC team and I know you’re obviously allegiances to the team in Orange that is the team that I’ve kind of like they haven’t had baseball success I hate their basketball program but kind of feel like they’re The Underdogs on the baseball side of things yep and uh it’ be another first time SEC Champion or or a different one so so I guess you’re not going to root for my number three team this week Ty that’d be Texas A&M n uh maybe have to win a title but uh I think they’re they’re a threat they play Florida in their first game I’ve got Texas A&M Bruce at number three yeah and that was an exciting crowd to watch um in the college station they were pounding the ball out of the park against Oregon double digit bubbles everywhere yeah that I didn’t know the bubble thing existed oh really you know West Ham United does that in the English Premier League Matt Jones would know that CU he watched the soccer but uh no I’d never seen that yeah my brother was down there when Arkansas played ADM for uh that series and he was making fun of it the whole time but yeah that was a uh that was a crazy crowd Las Vegas taking them to the colle World Series in just three seasons twice already he’s a really good baseball you know what they do in engineering class they blow bubbles blow bubbles yeah yeah all right so I got to move Florida to four because they’re still alive and playing Georgia’s maybe a better baseball team this year but Florida uh the team that we thought was least likely to advance to the College World Series takes care of Clemson on the road I’ve got Florida at number four yeah that was a great series against Clemson uh awful art I did was have a 500 record barely make the tournament blow through Norman and blow through Clemson they’re getting hot at the right time are they a threat to win the national championship yeah all eight of them are you win one game and you know you keeping the Winner’s bracket yeah you’re a very similar to Old Miss two years ago yeah that’s what that’s exactly what I was getting ready to say they uh and Old Miss had I guess Elco uh who was just a dude I think they got jacked don’t they yeah and they I was going to say Miss had him and Florida has got Jack hagon who uh is one of the better players in all of college baseball so yeah they very much are a threat I don’t I don’t think you can take them lightly when they’ve made it this far to this point yeah so I’ve got uh Georgia at number five after they were eliminated by NC State last night they’re the fifth team and uh I’ve got Mississippi State Arkansas at six I mean I I don’t think it really matters at six this point but uh those were the teams that I thought probably deserved the last slots in our final pradco pyramid of power yeah I agree with Georgia I I just kept LSU where we had them last week uh just because they got so hot at the end of the year and really took took in North Carolina to the limit in the Chapel Hill Regional they sure did so all right that’s our uh our final Pride Co pyramid of power for baseball I guess we’ll take a little break on the the pyramid and then about SEC media days which guys is about a month out we’ll start uh maybe uh looking at coaches and some uh I think we did this last year we looked at you know we kind of put our initial teams together together then we did a a prideco pyramid of power for coaches and I think we did quarterbacks and uh so maybe we’ll have some fun with that here in the summer as well you got your magazines yet have you gotten your uh college football magazines your Athlon your Lindy your Phil Ste no I I’ll uh I’ll start getting hootin here in a little bit uh my son slate is a senior kicker at Hendrick so I always like seeing his name in there they do a little page on the small colleges uh when when my boys played at North Side we used to get those little State magazines and newspapers to read about that but no I’ve not done that yet I like the hudin hudin just kind of gives me a sense of what’s going on high school football here in the State uh allows you to to read up on some things that don’t necessarily know about to give you because I don’t I don’t follow High School football is close to because I don’t have a kid or don’t have a brother or anything like that but I was that was one of my favorite Traditions growing up is just reading the hoodin from I heard they were doing referee ratings for the first time this year so I’m really excited to see that ah you worried about your ratings Tommy n Bring it on Bring It On that’s fine not going to worry about that at all so but uh that might be the most read page of the entire magazine if they did that might be the one put on the dart board the most said so sell that I think we could uh yeah we could talk to the editor and uh and have something on that uh you brought up uh Tony’s rant and I I’ve got a little part of it I I did find it I listened the whole six minutes stuff I cared for stuff I didn’t care for but this was uh this part specifically I think stood out to me if you’re talking about success for this team the one thing I stated after last season cuz I’m in a bathroom crying with just a lot of emotions after we’re able to beat Clemson last year was to show up at work every day and get out of my car excited and to have fun and to be around people that want to be here and be in an environment that you’re excited to get to every day 100% success Omaha is real fun to go to if you don’t play that well it ain’t that fun but I don’t really give a damn to be honest with you as a matter of fact we kind of can pick up where Evansville left off we’re not supposed to win because the number one never wins so how money so I’m going to consider this even more of a success this year but definitely because of that group in particular being the way they are you guys get Florida State on Friday uh getting you can tell the passion his voice everyone has an opinion on Tony vitel just like everyone has an opinion on Caitlin Clark uh at least that listen to this radio show uh I he was he was all over the place he was talking to specific players he was talking recruiting but I kind of I kind of did like how he say it’s like we’re not even supposed to be here even though they’re the more two I got a kick out of that I I laughed when he said that he kind of got set off uh the the what I’ve read in the Tennessee media a reporter said since you’ve been right number one most of the year uh with not winning your Super Regional meaning your season wasn’t a success and and they weren’t rate number one most of the Year this is kind of like the reporter you know asking the uh Tampa how how tough it was going to be playing in Detroit when you’re playing in a dome uh she didn’t realize that so they weren’t right number one most of the year it’s been about five weeks and that kind of set him off and then he went that I liked his last quote I wrote it down it’s like they they asked where you’d rather spend Father’s Day said well I like spending Father’s Day in Omaha but if it’s not Omaha I’d recommend Cabo with Bea or Tulum and and I’m sure most people didn’t even know what that meant you know there’s beaches in Mexico and in the Mediterranean U pretty uh pretty worldly of uh SEC baseball coach y those places Florida State on H Friday night will be the opponent you also got North Carolina Virginia and then two other SEC matchups on Saturday Kentucky and NC State and then like we mentioned Texas St M and Florida so Tommy even like in this uh this first setup you’ve only got one sec matchup for the first set of games and they they’ve kind of avoided it for the most part which I found interesting Bruce has Tennessee ever won a baseball National Title never never so Tennessee hasn’t Kentucky hasn’t A&M is not Florida obviously has so a chance for three secc teams to claim a crown that uh they never have Florida State we know did not win one with Mike Martin Virginia’s won a title I believe North Carolina’s won multiple titles um I’m not I’m not sure about NC State I know this is their fourth trip to the col World Series huh they should have won they got knocked out because of Co year they beat over here mhm so point is there’s there’s a a good likelihood of a firsttime national champion you know here in a couple of weeks uh in Omaha and you I don’t know if that’s any Sav On the wound for a Razer back fan but uh that seems to be the trend in recent years is you know newcomers to the to the Winter Circle in Omaha so and there’s good chance there there will be one this year cuz if I’ve got it right Virginia and North Carolina and going to play each other um in in Florida are the only three um previous national champions unless I’m missing one with NC State I don’t even know if North Carolina’s won one to be honest Tommy I feel like that I thought they had um double check on that but yeah it is a field we talked about this field before that like uh I think it was nearly half if not more than half of the 16 teams had never won a national championship at the top so it is it is something that is appealing because we’re talking about trying to bring in baseball like how many more Tennessee fans have we’ve seen the last three or four years that all the center dedicated their baseball game or team you could tell us that think about Texas A&M they didn’t care about baseball for the most part PR slash Nagel he’s taken to two of three then Kentucky who’s in their first so while it’s still like Southeastern and obviously the ACC you do have programs that are not traditional Blue Bloods that are at this point in Omaha which is I know encouraging from the growth within at least this section of the United States yeah I think it goes back to what I said earlier I mean there are schools in the SEC I mean Kentucky and Tennessee are obviously two of them that are paying uh coaches well they’re investing in facilities Kentucky Pride Parks it’s a I went there last year watch to played Tennessee Tech it’s a great place Tennessee is going to have a brand new 8,500 seat Stadium next year spending h100 million on baseball so you know you’re seeing that happen because people want to win and they want their name on the bracket and there’s another couple of weeks of coverage you get for your University and whatever that means I guess that’s what it means but uh it’s important they’re spending money on it Ty you’re right uh 12 College World Series appearances for North Carolina they were the runner up in 06 and 07 but if they’re uh if this Wikipedia page is right they North Carolina’s not won a national title yeah we’re getting a couple texts here on the Mardi didn’t a hotline kind of echoing what you just said I think like you said they’ve been to the theyve well they got a similar resume to Arkansas as far as you know you look at College World Series appearances they got a few more as a program runner up twice sound familiar so um I I know I’m an underdog I like to root for The Underdogs and you know um I guess I’m not rooting for Virginia or Florida of the teams that I wanted what about all you mentioned coaches and investment what about USC South Carolina reportedly hiring Paul maner yeah that’s that that came out of nowhere to me I think when they fired their coach and I thought they had a decent year they’ve had a decent run but they’re they’re expecting to win more games they’re wanting to win championship they’re still under the impression that the ray Tanner years should be held in Colombia today kind of like LSU was with maner maner basically got shoved out the door because he won one National Championship won multiple regular season and West titles they just they won that one in 09 couple years after he took over skip Bertman and then they didn’t replicate that success there are certain programs that expect to it’s like Elly Harper getting fired at Tennessee after going three straight sweet 16s not good enough you know you got to win when you have a legend and Bertman for LSU Pat Summit the late Pat Summit for Tennessee it’s almost a disservice that’s why I don’t think like for that next coach or the next R like that’s why I don’t think kayin dbor is going to have success at Alabama and he’ll be fired in three or four years that’s why Alabama ran through him after bear till they got same it’s same thing’s going to happen with them they expect it every year mhm which is fair to deore even though they might win nine or 10 games this year in the next two or three years um but following that that’s he’s going to get let go because of the level of expectation with that football program yeah all right that’s our pradco pyramid of power fishing is uh warming up literally and figuratively uh we are going to be into the 90s this week and I know I don’t know what effect that’s going to have on Water temperes I was talking to someone that was just a a late goer uh this past weekend down at Washington said the the water temperature seem to have risen more than 10° in the last week or so so Bruce we’re going to have some warmer water uh here as you head towards the weekend yeah and and when I see all this happening you our water levels are normalizing a lot of these Lakes are getting drained off the river’s getting back down uh below flood stage and most areas uh getting back down to a normal flow uh this is the best time of year like to be able to fish looking all red just you know fishing four and five hour chunks five or six days in a row that’s the best way to do it yeah we were commenting this morning as we uh started the show it was it was pretty well daylight at 6:00 a.m. this morning so we’re getting into uh that time where uh you know in the 5: a.m. hour there’s some there’s safe light to be on the water yeah but but for us at prago or the or the river in this case so like catching them absolutely all right man good to talk to you uh real quick Caitlyn Clark being left off the uh the Olympic team what do you think about it well I mean if you’re a business person uh if you’re making those decisions that’s a mistake because you lost millions of eyeballs oh nbz has got to be furious I’m not you know here’s the thing that’s unfair she she played a whole college basketball season and then the WNBA starts their season a month after the College season so she played a maximum amount of games and then she got all the accolades and pressure that go with being number one and now she’s got a just a bullseye Target on her every time she plays so I mean she’s been through a lot I think she’s awesome I think she’s awesome for the sports there are people that are energized to watch sports and TV that never have it’s kind of like when Taylor Swift started dating Kelsey and you get all these extra people watching games that’s what’s happening with Caitlyn but they messed up I mean if you want people if you want eyeballs from America on the Olympics she needs to at least be on the team kind of like you know the Dream Team everybody forgets christien lner was on it uh he didn’t really play I don’t know if she’d really play but she should have been on the team that they they cost themselves a lot of money yeah Bruce thanks hey uh real quick word for Gaston’s White River Resort uh the place to relax and wine Bruce was just talking about fishing and all the um you know kind of some finer points there particularly Collegiate national team training camp got 56 dudes they’re going to be be down there for a couple inter Squad series and then they will announce the final Collegian team on June the 29th they’re going to be taking on Chinese taipe in a five game series and you’re going to be playing in the apple or excuse me the roster will take on select teams from the Appalachian league and the coastal plane league in a 4- game slate so hopefully Christian hopefully Gabe will wind up on the national team they would be the 23rd and 24th Razer backs to ever make the US national team the most recent Hagen Smith Tommy yeah and uh congratulations to them and uh just being considered quite an honor and U you know Arkansas’s had others make that team before and um you know it’s your it’s your best and it keeps you working that’s why all these guys go play Summer Ball in wood bat leagues and Cape Cod and uh this is uh I would say probably top shelf as far as summer ball is and and to be selected for your country is H is always an honor yeah you think about Arkansas guys right now playing in these different uh leagues like uh I think it was hog beat compiled a list of the different ones like the Brewster White Caps the Santa Barbara Foresters the Martha Vineyard sharks and then you’ve got the funny minor league team names like the Aberdine iron Birds and the akan rubber ducks but I think it’d be pretty fun to be a college kid go off to a town you’ve never been to and just continue to play the sport you love in baseball yeah and uh they’re going to have a good opportunity there hopefully they’ll make it uh obviously come from a from a well coach background at Arkansas that that will help them too in the election no question Hunter Henry uh is a name we haven’t mentioned in in a little while he was recently talking with the media about being a veteran he’s still up in Foxboro uh playing for the New England Patriots and it’s kind of weird to say now but he’s a vet in the National Football League and he kind of talked about how he could help his team this upcoming season just trying to still be steady uh still be consistent be the same person I am every single day I’ve tried to be be that ever since I stepped in the building just person wise and then obviously trying to be that on the football field as well so just trying to you know help out young guys man I’m I’m on year nine it’s kind of crazy now I’m kind of the old head in the room the veteran this kind of feels surreal so just trying to be a leader you know we got a young a lot of young guys but we’re trying to bring them along and they’re doing a great job every single day the former All-American and Macky Award winner uh has been was M Jones his favorite Target uh no longer going to be that but is a guy that has had some some success in the National Football League a ton of success in college I remember the first time I met Hunter we were in high school and he was selecting where he was actually going to play high school football uh it was down between uh lck Christian palaski Academy ended up going to PA the better decision because our football team was terrible at the time but he was like Tom me in like in like ninth grade he was already like 6’4 65 I mean he definitely he definitely got his father Mark’s uh jeans and uh still playing the game he Lov till this day to this day Legacy kid I know that one night Alabama was on him hot and heavy oh yeah and um I don’t you know I don’t think he ever wavered from Arkansas but I remember having the uh the opportunity to referee some of his high school games and he you know it was pretty clear who the who the kid that Alabama and Arkansas and every other team in the in the Southeast seemed to want to go after he he was a an easily identifiable Talent that’s for sure him and and DJ had some of the best hands I’ve I’ve ever seen in Arkansas so did Jerry’s right too I feel like anytime you throw it like Sticky Fingers when you threw those guys the football and Arkansas’s got a pretty good tight in now in Luke has we know Bobby patrino has some success with those and Washington right behind him so hopefully you’ll have some offense I thought it was interesting you missed this last week before we uh end our hog update Tommy um we had Michael bradden on that SEC podcast and Mike brought up to us that Arkansas actually leads the SEC in returning pass catching production at 93% so you think about Armstrong satania Tesla ha Washington there’s another name I’m forgetting off the top of my head I apologize but you do have and luk has didn’t have a complete full season to U you know to really make those numbers maybe even stronger I I have of the the 79 days out belief and again A lot can change in 79 days till Arkansas football takes on uapb I think the offense is going to be considerably better than the defense is going to be and I could be wrong hopefully Travis Williams in that unit surprises me but based on that hopefully Shoring up the awful offensive line that’s kind of where my mind is is trending right now I don’t think we need to be comparing the offense versus the defense on the same team it’s I think how much better can you be than last year uh offensively and that that that’s really the number to worry about how how they compare to your own defense to me is of no consequence but um you know the defense needs improvement too but yeah I I expect this offense for for a few reasons a I think the offensive line is going to be better maybe by default um I’ll be interested to see how ton green um you know makes this offense work differently than than KJ he had a good quarterback last year you just couldn’t get all the pieces to fit you mentioned the wide receivers but I think Bobby patrino is the kind of the secret ingredient I I just think he’s a smart guy he understands how to break down the opponent’s defense and um I think he you know the way he’ll set things up will morning Rush Tom welcome in to the program on the mccardy Daniel hotline uh kayn Clark uh has been a pressing topic on this radio program the last two days didn’t think that she would ever U be just the best segment or the best uh most riveting one uh And yet when she was left off the US Olympic team everyone seemed to have an opinion on that what is your opinion about Caitlyn Clark being left on the USA olympic team 12 woman roster good morning guys yeah uh standing through Twitter yesterday I saw a lot of very hot takes and some strong loud voices regarding this um if I knew more about the entire roster I could tell you well maybe she’s better than this girl or what the process is to to choose the roster how many of them are already taken before this happened but I will say this it’s a missed Opportunity by USA basketball um I’ll take the slant of if you’re really wanting to grow your game um and everyone is really hot about Caitlyn Clark right now uh after what she’s done with Iowa then it’s it’s a great way to capitalize and put eyes on the TV I have a friend who uh took whatever it takes to subscribe to the entire basketball season because he’s so um fond of her game um and he’s he’s just a real nerdy X and O’s guy you know like a love of basketball and how you get people open and and that those types of things but anyway missed opportunity um I don’t know if there’s still a chance for it to be you know rectified or redone or whatever but I I understandably get that some of the selection committee folks are taking some heat she told our coach reportedly through text that they awoke a monster um they’re we we kind of talk about revenge tours early in the show maybe some teams maybe some players that went on to have great Seasons or or get it a team back for beating them the previous year Tom is is there maybe a season maybe a player that stands out that uh was rubbed the wrong way by a certain team or organization that just went on a run like she’s hoping to in a rookie season well you have to remember um okay so Michael Jordan had various things where he he felt uh disrespected or whatever and he might be the greatest at all of all time at being able to handle the ball and then just make a game like bend a game or a moment to his will um with kayln I mean she’s not on a great team right so um and her ball handling skills I I haven’t seen enough of her to know that her ball handling skills can can let her do the things Michael Jordan did so uh I would say Jordan um and I can’t give you a specific incident in which he erupted or or you know got at got got back at somebody but when he was ill and he beat the Cavaliers I think it was the Cavaliers back in the day uh the Craig Elo team uh that was a pretty amazing deal now you think about like Jordan the incident with George Carl and the superon or he made it an incident uh with the Pistons beating them after getting beat up for a number of years and Michael like he said would take the littlest thing possible and and turn that into uh something to motivate him moving forward uh Clark’s getting asked all these different things including about Dan Hurley and him electing to stay in Yukon uh Tom I thought it was a big win for college sports when that was reported yesterday uh what did you make of Dan Hurley’s decision not to coach LeBron but to stay in college and go for that threee well when I first heard the news or saw the news that he was connected to the Lakers job and like he would be their choice I thought if I’m Dan Hurley think of think of all so he’s living in stores Connecticut I’ve been there and it’s been a couple of decades now uh in fact right when yukon’s women started to get really good so it’s been four decades uh and it was a it was a kind of a quiet college town I don’t know if it’s grown but he he is the big man um up there in in really in New England um and uh he’s got a Powerhouse going with Yukon men’s BAS and think of the doors that he’s opening in terms of collateral issues the more he goes on on the pro level uh higher much higher degree of of scrutiny and daily and he’s an intense guy and so there’s a chance things could go bad when he starts getting questioned because you’re going to lose a good number of games in the NBA so I I applaud him for making a decision that may be like better for family and I haven’t looked at the numbers y’all can tell me maybe what what Yukon bumped up to or and what the Lakers were offering but at some point uh the money is it’s it’s you’re making enough money that you can do whatever you know you want to do and uh it’s about what he’s got going in stores and so I applaud him for making the decision and look man they were a Powerhouse when when when Arkansas got matched up against them two years ago it was like wow that’s that’s the one team you don’t want to be facing right here with a chance to get back to the elite eight yet again um and then last year I didn’t see anybody that was going to beat them in that field and and sure enough they just run a good system and they had great Personnel great guys who could take the ball and get their own shots uh re really good college program yeah you we were talking earlier Tom that you think about Yukon you know their basketball programs men and women speak for themselves and their success their baseball team was you know uh close to the College World Series beat out by Florida state in the supers and they do all this without a Powerhouse uh football program they’re in the Big East that leans on basketball and you just wonder in the model we’re headed for with profit sharing and you know 20 plus million dollars uh these schools are going to come up with to to share with the athletes how does how does a program like Yukon men’s and women’s basketball continue uh to have any kind of uh Level Playing Field if there is such a thing uh when you have a football program and a conference that doesn’t lean on football I I would think that had to have gone through Dan Hurley’s mind the challenges uh he’s going to have ahead of himself just because of the finances and the realities of that in college sports in the next two to five years man you you really bring up a great Point here uh I I don’t know they certainly Yukon in a way kind of stands alone um when when you consider the the success the cross the board type success you just mentioned and the fact that they were a couple of wins away from going to the College World Series as well when I don’t even I really when I think of college baseball Yukon comes under no consideration in my mind and I watched them a little they were a Plucky team you know uh but but their basketball programs were mod I remember being up there driving around campus I I want to say that skip Holtz had just been the football coach and of course you know back then I think they were f s and uh it’s it’s just amazing to think of the success that program has had and then right in the current age of College athletics how you sustain that I mean there’s some power five programs that you wor you worry how how are they going to compete when the schools are now potentially about to start directly paying players um how that’s going to compute and um what it means to assemble a team and how how players View their team and their their role on their team versus their own you know their own profiles their own Brands so to speak because that’s what you hear a lot of and we’re ining a world of College athletics where um it’s it probably will be hard for a together had a team meeting apparently they played a pickup game and he watched and you know it’s comments were as expected to be glowing about how talented his team is I’m excited about you know these they get a limited number of Summer practices down closer to the start of school in August but uh I just wonder how much attention that will be paid in in relative terms to to Arkansas’s football practices about the same time of the year um well I know what I’ll be doing I’ll be covering the football um and I don’t know I think I think long and hard about what all it takes to be a good in fact I was thinking last night about that 2021 team and why it was a really good team and if you’re say Pitman thinking back what do we do to recapture what that team spirit was about uh you had some homegrown Talent on there like Grant Morgan who it really meant a lot to and I I just don’t think you can underestimate uh the power of a leader like Grant Morgan and then you know KJ was young but you know they there there was just a spark about that team and so they have to kind of recreate that and their roster is going to be so new and turned over that developing that camaraderie and all that is going to be really interesting to watch but uh no question John C John caliper has created uh well Eric musman built it to this point and Now cal is gonna be here and he just has a different way the The Branding I actually bumped into him in the Press Box at one of the regional baseball games and you know shook hands said Hi and um uh I don’t know he’s got he’s got a way about appreciate you guys take my call listen to you guys all the time on my drive I appreciate that hey I’ve got I’ve got three things I’m G kind of put these out quick uh one is I I enjoy listening to Tom whenever he comes on listen to him very knowledgeable but he said something I think is telling in this is that he admitted that while he’s aware of Caitlyn Clark he’s not aware enough of the rest of the roster to say who spot she should take I think that’s part of the tension and what’s going on here is that a lot of people know Caitlyn Clark because the media coverage but they don’t actually know that much about women’s basketball they don’t actually know much about the talent that’s in the WNBA and I think this is where we have to take a step back hey Don stay would just want a national championship right I think she knows a little bit about talent I think she knows a little bit about what makes up a locker room uh those people that are involved they’ve been involved in L’s basketball for a long time and uh they’re the ones who are constructing this Roost also uh I saw some comments from Rebecca Lobo a few days ago and she pointed out and I didn’t realize this uh this process of putting together this roster has been going on for three years it’s been a process of multiple training camps uh playing in some International competition doing all of these things and so I think there’s a lot of things that are play u more than just tossing a talented person out there I I was a little bit shocked in the beginning that she didn’t get picked uh but but listening to some of these people talk you know it makes more and more sense and then finally and then I’ll I’ll get off but uh do you not think that perhaps the controversy that has been caused by this is perhaps bigger for women’s basketball than if she just been put on the roster so anyway those are my thoughts Ryan Ryan before you go how many do you know how many gold medals consecutively the women’s do you the US Women’s team is one I believe I believe it was six or seven I think I think it maybe nine at this point wow uh point my point is do are you of because I have this belief the US is likely to win the very likely to win gold wither without Caitlyn Clark right unless the rock unless the locker room turns unless the unless they just become so disruptive in that Feld yeah but sure talent wise sure because one of the you know and I’ve got two daughters but one of the complaints we’ve heard for for a long time is the the lack of attention paid to women’s sports across the board right uh there was certainly uh conflict with a women’s soccer team and wanting to be paid on par with a men’s team um you here’s a chance to publicize something good to help promote women’s sports I I just think I I I don’t think Caitlyn Clark is the difference in silver or gold um and you may be right I had thought about the the division of a locker room uh angle but she brings attention because of the star power she has I don’t know that she asked for it but she has it and if there’s a chance to promote women’s sports and to bring everybody up along with it I just think that the US Women’s team has missed an opportunity to do something greater not just for themselves but for women’s sports as a whole I don’t know if it has to do with their personality uh Ryan we appreciate your call but tell me I don’t think her own teammates like her because when she’s been knocked down or what ever they don’t they don’t immediately come to their aid or back her up when I see certain other teammates it is an immediate backlash and I didn’t see that with her no that’s and that might not not be her fault but watch the games and watch what happens when she goes down there’s no one rescuing her more than more big talking points this morning uh two of them won uh Kaylin Clark uh not being included to the US Olympic team I want to rehash what Rebecca Lobo said former WNBA player current WNBA analyst and the possibility of Caitlyn still being on the team the one player that is thing that people should keep their eye on in this conversation is Chelsea Greg when she was healthy a season ago best point guard in the world she has not played a WNBA game yet this season because of a lower leg injury if for some reason she’s not able to return but they expect that she will or if any other member of the back court that has been reportedly named to that roster has any kind of an injury I would expect that Caitlyn Clark would be the backcourt player that could get added to this roster it could doesn’t mean it’s it’s going to happen but it could happen and you made a point earlier I think it’s it’s very well made eight straight gold medals for the US Women’s what it is I heard eight or this would be the ninth I thought okay yeah I thought you said eight or maybe I misheard it’s it’s a number it you know let me look that up but um I think I heard yesterday that this would be their ninth if they uh if they win this and the men and and to be clear the men haven’t even I don’t think hit that number cuz there was the redeemed team because the the team before that team lost so I don’t think the men have had that many consecutive uh wins I’d have to go back and double check that but that’s just kind of off the top of my head either way she’s not currently included and I know a lot of people were were frustrated and irritated by that if this is the back door way to solve this issue and again you you don’t want to root for injury but it’s still a a possibility for Caitlyn Clark to be on the US Olympic team and I you know no one can speak for U um Caitlyn Clark and how she would feel but would you want to be put on the team in that way after all of the that’s come out you’d never publicly turn you’d never turned down an opportunity to be on the Olympic team but I would think that would create more U resentment uh let’s see the US has participated in 11 Olympic Games and medled in all of them they have um nine gold medals 84 88 96 I guess they H did not get 92 so 96 2000 04 08 12 16 and 20 seven in a row inow but nine total that that was it it has nine nine medals uh silver in 76 and bronze and 92 so my point is you’ve been dominant in the international game if Caitlyn Clark’s on the team or not on the team they’re going to win a they’re going to Gold Medal and you know the real risk I think for USA Basketball is what if you don’t gold medal and she’s not on the team now what kind of hell are you facing oh it’s it be it would be now and no one’s rooting for that trust me I mean we’re we’re all Americans and um you know so we the last thing we want is uh USA not to win but boy that’s the risk Don Staley and this committee has taken is you know this could backfire on Greg says he he messages Us on YouTube saying I would not accept that invitation if I was Caitlyn Clark can never turn your country down in her circumstances um that is that’ be a bad look and she’d lose some of her 1000% you would go from being just this Idol in the eyes of many to it it doesn’t matter how you get offered to the US national team you accept it regardless of the circumstances and but I could see where private resentment or private reservation at least would be on her part I I mean I don’t know how she’d feel she can only speak for herself but um I think that’d make the situation even tougher hey you didn’t want me to begin with it’s kind of like when you uh you know you’re the third invite for something they’ve invited you know to go go on a trip or uh you know join us for what whatever it is the more significant it is and obviously playing in the Olympics is pretty significant you know you would make the first cut not the not the second or the third cut so um but the problem they’ve got now is NBC’s coverage and everyone’s coverage of women’s basketball at the Olympics is not going to center around the team that’s on the floor it’s always going to have the aster or the the addition in the conversation of Caitlyn Clark it’s not where’s Waldo it’s where’s Caitlyn in this situation now now Hog Wild and Van beer texted in on the mccardy Dana hotline Tommy unless it’s seasoned I mean like canned tomatoes no I’ll take fresh tomatoes thousand out of a thousand times um I’m with you on corn I no I can’t think of one you know I I mean I’ve got a pretty lot of change within the Yukon basketball program in terms of recruiting thought we might get a chance to ask him about a player or two Arkansas can be on and sound like that’s going to happen and we’ll also welcome in our fisherman clay Henry who’s got a recent article a recent column I should say on hitthatline.com talking about uh some of the changes that have gone on in north central Arkansas it is uh I I think a lot of times we we talk predominately what’s going on in Northwest Arkansas uh Central Arkansas and the river valley sometimes uh some other pockets of our state doesn’t
