Tour rep Drew Page gives his insight on navigating the Pinehurst greens with JT Poston ahead of the US Open Championship.
so out here following JT posting right now um JT is Titleist player uh uses a go5 has for a long time one of the statistically best Putters on tour for the last five or so years so wanted to come out see how is he how he’s handling the greens on a practice round something fast like this you trying to make it what’s that are you trying to make this I’m trying I mean we’ve got our match so yeah I’m definitely trying to make it but I’m I’m it down there yeah try to feel like outside that divot what he’s seeing as far as uh different quadrants of the greens what’s what’s the best parts of the greens to putt to and he’s even gone as far as saying that there’s certain putts to pins that he might have where he might have to lay up on a putt uh where he cannot go at the pin he has to putt to a different section of the green where it could be 30 ft away and just take his three putt and and you know get out of there so it’s like you literally have a 15-footer in your playing defensive cuz it just went 6 ft by Donald rth greens are are traditionally very undulating these are like an upside down Bowl so everything’s sloping from the middle um or back to front and sloping off U so if you can imagine that upside down Bowl um and that’s why so particular for these guys to put their apprach shots in the right place to give them some sort of chance at a birdie Putt and uh put themselves in a successful position
