Sunday on Fox we have been waiting all year for this match up it’s the inaugural United football league championship kick it off baby let’s rock the Birmingham stallions aim to lock up their third consecutive title let go while the San Antonio rahas look to cap off their improbable run with a crown of their own wow this is going to be a fun one touchdown the 2024 UFL Championship Sunday at 5 Eastern on Fox live from New York it’s the show that will have several bets oh it’s a game of chance we borrowed this from the carton shows look at what he has bro well the carton shows it was sitting there I it’s one of those retroactive borrows like hey we borrowed this and and inside of this thing are several suggestions some of them Just Say Cash Money bet okay good we going be doing doesn’t looking for more points from their Stars Kyrie and Tatum two sound bites here first Kyrie and then Jason Tatum take a listen started with me um just telling my hermano just I got to play better for him along side them and um you know in order for us to um you know accomplish our goal uh we both have to be playing well I understand that it could take one game uh one game I could explode and you know all those the the percentage and things like that could change um so it’s just that mindset of you know I’m I’m one game away okay here’s their numbers so far both guys unb considerably below their season averages Tatum doing a little bit more other than scoring but someone on Twitter referred to those assists as Ben Simmons assists which I never heard up but I got well Chris manx said today to your buddy Bill Simmons that he thought four of them were scorekeeper gifts in game two theist that he said four of them were three dribble assists yeah and so you that they were watch I mean he go back I mean again that’s just yeah but go ahead all right so brw who’s under more pressure tonight Tatum or Kyrie I I don’t see how you could say anybody but Kyrie really well number one this is do or die for the Mavs right we we would all agree the Mavs if they lose tonight it’s over I mean they’re not coming back from a three series deficit all right so just that in and of itself like Tatum could have a bad game tonight and they win or I’m sorry and they lose and they’re still in control of the series at least until game four happens you know what I mean so just that in and of itself to me puts the most pressure on Kyrie also while Tatum hasn’t been very good MH Kai he hasn’t been as bad as Kyrie like Tatum is and I mean look I don’t know how you want to look at the assists but he’s averaging eight and a half assists a game that leads the series for both teams he’s averaging 10 rebounds that leads his team and I think his defense is solid I’m not saying he’s you know Dennis Rodman but he’s playing solid defense he’s just not hitting shots all right but he’s almost averaging a triple double 1710 and 8 and A2 so I’m not saying I’m not trying to act like oh he’s playing well nobody sees it I’m just saying he’s not in the ballpark of where Kyrie is Kyrie is not we know because of his size he is kind of a scorer now he’ll get you five assists or St not even doing that he’s getting you four assists but so I think he’s not playing nearly as bad Kyrie is viewed probably rightly as the reason the Mavs are down 02 because he is not holding up his end of the bar you’re not going to blame the role players they haven’t been horrible they haven’t been very good and Luca’s been playing fine so Kyrie’s viewed is that and then I’ll throw this in yeah the so-called curse of lucky like that that that’s what’s going around in Boston since he stomped on lucky to leprechaun he’s 0 and2 against the Celtics and so I just think that look I don’t know where you’re going Nick if people want to say Tatum’s the better player and Tatum you know so there’s more on the line for that I just think it’s Kyrie so I think 100% it’s Tatum wow so I listen obviously there’s more pressure on the Mavs than the Celtics that’s undeniable because it’s 2 so I agree with you in in that in that kind of window but there for me the Kyrie situation is so different than Jason tatums first of all there is a very obvious rational explanation for Kyrie Irving struggles the single best player in the league at Perimeter defense is guarding him so I’m not hold on brw let me just get through it if I may there is not that on the maps it’s not as if all of a sudden you have 2016 K uh Kawhi Leonard and it’s like okay so there’s a guy shutting you down so that’s the first point you can draw a direct line of it’s another great player doing a great job as opposed to with Tatum there’s no one on the Mavs that were like that guy is a great lock down individual perimeter Defender second point is the one you alluded to far more is expected from Jason Tatum far more is needed from not necessarily needed but he is the better player on his team so he’s held to a higher standard and then lastly and this is the one that I think is most important Kyrie already has a finals Legacy Kyrie already has multiple iconic finals games he has arguably inarguably one of and arguably the single biggest shot in the history of the NBA finals and so much of Kyrie’s Legacy and Legend is basically already cooked or in a good way like it’s already baked in his skill level his size his creativity his ball handling and so no matter what happens in this series no one is going to be able to come out of this series and be like you know what Kyrie Irving crumbles Under Pressure Kyrie Irving can’t handle the NBA Finals we can say he had a terrible finals we can say he cost his team but he already has something that cannot be taken away from him Jason Tatum on the other hand has gotten in my opinion up to this point like 15% of the heat that his play warrants because they’re up 20 if they if it was tied or if they were down 02 and these numbers were that he would be getting an crushed I think fairly and I know people bring up when we’re like What if he’s bad in these finals throughout what if he is back-to-back bad finals and people bring up and no and they lose and they lose uh and people bring up LeBron who lost his first two finals the first one didn’t play great and people didn’t kill him for it the second one played poorly and people did kill him for it I think that’s instructive Wilds because LeBron James who had two MVPs before that won two more and four more titles after that and went to eight more finals still has those finals thrown in his face so if Jason Tatum who right now this moment is the most inefficient shooter in finals history since the merger since modernish basketball continues to struggle and they lose and all of a sudden becomes a series of course it’s more pressure on him because Kyrie can only go so far backwards and Tatum meanwhile has no finals leg his only finals Legacy if you will is that he plays his worst basketball in it you made some good points but if they win I mean if let’s say he these numbers remain 17 10 and seven yeah all right and he takes it up a little he shoots 38% or whatever I mean he’s going to be a champion he’s going to be widely recognized as the best player on the championship team and I would say about LeBron the only reason or times that those two finals are brought up against him is in the goat debate that’s like otherwise I think otherwise that’s not true but no but but nobody’s holding it like nobody’s really holding it against LeBron to say oh he not not the first or well I say the first cuz he’s not the goat if they you know an argument but they don’t say they say he’s the second best so how much are you really holding it against him I think it only comes up in those debates so can I can I ask one other thing before we move on here the CU you so let’s go under that circumstance yeah because my point was tat won’t be in those debates no no no I no I’m talking about the if the Celtics win but Tatum plays poorly you know what I mean that he’s a so I’m not certain that that is as seamless from a human individual perspective as we are talking about I I the idea that if Jason Tatum plays very poorly but the Celtics win all is good for Jason Tatum I don’t think that is realistic to how alpha human human beings top level athletes operate yes he will be happy yes he would rather I believe play poorly and they win then him play well and they lose but it it would add a weird yeah but for him personally to this season and this series is that is that Larry Bird averaged nine points during a three- game stretch of his first championship Cornbread Maxwell was the MVP now bird has some good moments in weird that this is Tatum’s second finals that was B’s first like chalk the first one up to nerves or bad luck or just don’t have St I’m not saying we’ll just forget everything and you’re right it will F like if they make the finals again it will be like okay is Jason Tatum going to play well I just think the the series is in the balance tonight and Jason Tatum can play poorly and they lose and they’re still very much more than alive whereas if Kyrie plays poorly and they lose they’re done 30 points for Jason Tatum tonight is it okay you want to have a bet on it what yeah I’ll take the under yeah let’s have a bet on it okay go how does this work this is your silly bit how do we do it what are we doing you you’re just rolling that thing out there it’s not even on camera what’s the bet this is our first bet of the day okay it’s you versus me what is it what is it loser has to wear a shirt with the Winner’s face on it oh really yeah perfect I think that’s fair who is that the three says we both have that well you got him hit 30 yeah I got the under I’m under that too okay okay now we know there here we go so you have to wear with both of our faces I actually would like that I might wear that normally I wear that I wear that around uh Luca looks to be in pain in the pregame but then brings the pain during the game not bad averaging 3110 and six while shooting 51% from the field also under 50% on free throws that’s strange and has had 12 turnovers total here’s Luca on his health first I feel good I don’t want to get any more details uh but I feel good okay short and sweet does luuka need to do more so I have a prediction wild sure I the the turnovers he has to cut down on I’m not excusing them and the free throws like you said it’s weird it’s also six of 13 so it’s a small sample he missed four in a row at one two games no it is two games but I’m saying the I I don’t think he’s going to shoot 50% on free throws but there’s no excusing that I understand but the commentary or dissection or critique about how he’s playing offensively aside from the turnovers I think is going to shift tomorrow and I think he’s going to play the exact same way the difference is guys will make their shots I think that all of a sudden if we track the numbers we are going to see game two passes dribbles field goal attempts versus game three that they end up being very similar or in line with the pace of the game but people say oh oh Luca got his teammates involved tonight and the answer what that means is Kyrie hit a three instead of being 0 for 0 for8 Derek Jones Jr hit a three uh the PJ Washington hit a three and it feels more like because right now the Mavs are shooting 8% other than Luca on open or wide openen threes and that is leading to my opinion a circular commentary of Luca needs to do more to get his teammates involved when in reality they’re just missing shots so I think yes he does need to do more scoring wise I think he has to average 30 he can average 32 and win this series no I think I think the rest of the way he’s got average 35 um and I think he can I think he’s shown he can but I think the people aren’t really criticizing that he’s not scoring enough people are criticizing that he’s not getting his teammates involved more and I don’t think it’s a fair criticism and I think it’s just a fact due to miss shots he had 11 assists last game with guys missing so I’m with you and that the critique game one and even the one assist was a lot of that was due to miss shots but also it was a due to them adjusting to okay they’re not doubling me at all all right so how are we going to work how we going to play this way throughout the series but look he’s doing I think he’s doing enough to win he’s basic what 31 uh six assists and over 10 rebounds he’s leading the series and scoring in rebounds to ask a guy to average more than 31 in 10 is pretty hard so I think the question is not does he need to do more but can he do more okay and I would say he can and we glossed over it I don’t know why cuz of free throws dude is shooting 46% no that’s a big free throws are points they lost by seven like an outlier he’s not a good free throw shooter but 46% I know but why why are you only shooting 46% on but what what is he for his the% that’s not terrible he not leag League average it’s an average or a great player who’s a guard who can shoot below Aver should be shooting better than 75% okay all right and so he’s not a great free throw shooter but this is big they lost last game by seven he missed four free throws let’s say he makes three of them I think it can be contagious you see they’re not a good free throw shooting team period they’re last in the playoffs in in free throw shooting they’re bottom four in the regular season in free throw shooting that’s a problem when games are close and you can’t hit free throws that is an issue so he if Nick if he’s shooting 75% from free from the free throw line maybe they would have won that game because you can’t just say oh it’s more you know what I mean so I think he can do better than that and I do think the one thing is the usage rate that’s a little high it it went down to 31 in the in the first three rounds now it’s back up to 36 so that’s where you can kind of get more guys involved so here’s what Kevin Looney told Draymond and this is not just me it just happens to line up exactly with what I think play Rashad mcc’s quote next you don’t like having Looney champion no I I I I appreciate what he is as a player I don’t I don’t the the you like he’s speaking as appeal to Authority fallacy here might be what do be able to shoot the ball as well so then Josh authority figure on the show this is first quarter shooting Luca is 8 for 14 great Kyrie 6 for 10 great they are superstars PJ Washington three for five Derrick Jones got three total shots Gafford has two total shots one of them just a put back dump yeah well that’s well by the way all of gafford’s shots the reason he shot one hold on what did Daniel Gafford shoot in the Conference Finals does anyone know cuz I do 100% well you why because they are all dunks and lobs you know what I mean and so that is that to me is a Joe Missoula Celtic stat about what they’re taking away and here is the reason that I am just and I I’m not trying to be disrespected with Kavon Looney uh or to you Kevin Wilds but if there were a bunch of instances of hey look at this guy who was wide open that Luca didn’t give it to we’d have it no I’m talking scheme wise well I’m not I’m not talking about a decision that to make snap right away on kids that’s what I’m saying I don’t believe that that it can be boil here I think there’s two schools of thought one Luca is doing everything these guys need to make shots or two Luka can be a force multiplier and help these guys get better if you’re saying that’s impossible I disagree they’re off part of why he makes people better is when he draws double teams same thing for Kyrie and Boston is saying we’re not doubling so now he can either pass it to a guy that’s single coverage that other than Kyrie can’t create his own shot or I mean but it’s hard to adjust off at this point now right now it’s a Personnel thing right now in my op opinion the Celtics have made a bet that even if we single cover Luca he’s not going to torch us for 40 plus and so it’s worth it that’s why I’m saying for them to win I didn’t think going into the series Luca would have to average 35 for them to win it or else I wouldn’t have picked them to win it you know in five but with how they’re guarding him with the fact that they are basically saying we are not giving any of your Ro guys anything easy at The Rim what you give up in that if you’re Boston is Luca is going to have better looks than he typically gets because they’re not blitzing him and they’re not doubling him so because of that he has to score more I think and even as he’s playing though if Kyrie were playing well that’s the right% of his capacity they might’s almost separate from this get stop and get a you know get out on transition okay we’re going to end with some sad news out of the NBA Jerry West has passed away at the age of 86 14 time Allstar as a player the architect of some of the best teams in league history as an executive basketball Ambassador around the world in literally the League’s logo Brew how will you remember Jerry West man I mean I I knew Jerry pretty well you know from covering the league for almost 30 years I used to talk to him a lot he was one of my favorite people to talk to on the phone he loved talking about what’s going on around the league and all that so I’ll remember him in that way obviously I didn’t see him as a player but I studied him and studied his numbers and in his career Nick I’ve got him as the third best shooting guard ever behind Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant and I I think he I mean it’s fair to say he’s like a basketball genius because he obviously was a great player and then in the front office I mean he helped build the showtime Lakers he you know got Shaq as a free agent to come to La he drafted Kobe or or traded for Kobe when Kobe was drafted 13th Kobe did not come out of high school like no where it was like oh it’s a no BR he was drafted 13th but Jerry West saw this kid is special and then when he went to Memphis and Golden State and the Clippers he’s always had success so I really liked him a lot like I said he was one of my favorite people to talk to in the league and uh I’ll miss him and and this is like the NBA is going to miss and we know he’s the logo but like that’s not an overstatement I mean Jerry West was just ubiquitous with the NBA really there’s a very strong argument to be made that over the last 60 years there is not a single person that has had more impact on the events of the NBA than Jerry West there’s you know I’m not trying to like do a who is more important what you know whatever it is but from when when he set foot on the court for the Lakers to you know a couple drafts ago like his finger Prince being all over the league uh and I think everyone knows I think more people know about his impact off the court front office Showtime Lakers sha all of that the famous moment when he’s at the draft running the Grizzlies and they’re either going to get LeBron or nothing that they know they they know the logo what I don’t know if people quite recognizes what an absolute badass of a player he was so I want him to say it in his own words and and then I’m going to Rattle off some jaw-dropping numbers for you if we could here’s Jerry West talking about himself competitive people the word dogs comes up a lot that guy’s a dog that guy well I was a wolf okay I used to eat dog and that is definitively true just and again I’m going to throw a lot of numbers at you very quickly but he was 10 time first team all NBA that’s the same amount of times as Michael Jordan or Kem Abdul Jabar the tied for the fourth most he’s the greatest player ever without an MVP it’s kind of shameful he didn’t have one I think got robbed in 1970 but he did finish top five eight times and finished second four times and finishing second of course is something of what he’s associated with seven consecutive finals losses one of them in 1970 is seventh straight finals loss actually uh call in game three he hit one of the greatest shots in NBA history to force overtime with a second left which I think we can show you from 55 feed out we’ll show it to you at some point here it is down two in the finals game three bang Jerry West in the NBA Finals 10 times scored 40 points only LeBron and Michael have more than five Jerry has the mess Jerry West in the NBA Finals eight times played 48 or more minutes and how did he lose those finals in 1962 he lost in a game seven in overtime by three in 1966 he lost in a game seven by two in 1969 in a game seven with a pulled hamstring he had 42 13 and 12 and lost by two all of those to Bill Russell that last one winning Finals MVP he then lost a game he lost the Willis Reed game despite dropping 31 and then of course he finally won at 1972 if he had never spoke of basketball again after he retired he’d be one of the most important greatest players ever and instead he added 50 years of greatness in the front office and he’s the leading scorer in the finals more points than file footage uh Aaron Rogers still not there Diana Rini writing Aaron Rogers is skipping all Jets mandatory mini camp this week because he prefers to be somewhere else away from football that’s his choice literally perfect tweet wow here’s Robert Salah did you have any contact with him like talk to him after after between yesterday and today no I haven’t Tyrod said he had only found out that morning is there any reason that wasn’t communicated to him before or no uh it’s it’s a one-on-one uh conversation it’s not something that the team needed to know about Aaron and I are on the exact same page um there’s no issue uh between Aaron or his teammates for that matter um so like I said we addressed it yesterday it’s not it’s it’s more of an issue for for everyone outside the building his inside and um and that’s about it okay how do you know how do you know how do you know his teammates are cool with it I’m just curious because the teammates didn’t know about it until yesterday Tyrod didn’t know about it and I I mean fun little fun uh fact the last quarterback to starting quarterback to be fined for missing mandatory mini camp unexcused was anybody anybody Rogers oh with the Green Bay Packers in 2021 which speaks to a couple things one is it hasn’t happened with any other starting quarterback in the last three years and also Aaron at least at that point in time was sandwiched right between League MVP years and he you know not so subtly wanted more money there was you know Rift with the organization you get it uh even if you don’t love it you it at least makes more sense and this idea like I I now I have had to listen to people go on and blame Robert Salah I actually feel badly for Robert Salah in this spot he’s got he’s there is no right answer here which is clearly some people within the organization or teammates don’t love this or else you just call it excused and if all of a sudden there’s not going to be a fight people are like ah there going to be a fight with the Union about it no there’s not the union is the one who tries to people from getting fined that wouldn’t be a problem it’s like oh well then Assan reic might get M ass reck’s not even really on the team yet you’re not worried about that so someone thinks it’s a big enough deal that Aaron Rogers is reportedly on vacation rather than being at mtor mini camp which is why they’re doing it publicly and I listen I I really like and respect Mike Greenberg but I had to listen to Mike Greenberg go on Aaron Rogers talk show of choice today and say that quote Aaron has done everything right up to this point huh the Jets had to make contingencies in real time of what are we going to do if our quarterback runs for vice president the Jets are not allowed to pick their own offensive coordinator because of this guy and now they’re not allowed to have the same mini camp that every other team in the league gets to have because he’s on vacation and we’re saying that it’s Robert Sol fault for what for not lying about it that’s what we’re saying Brew is that Robert solah should have lied that he should have gotten up there and been like guys it’s excused everyone’s on the same page it’s fine it’s a personal matter for Aaron no he shouldn’t have and so I I find the whole thing ludicrous you can see how uncomfortable Salah is in his press conferences I mean I I agree with you in that Salah has done nothing wrong okay he’s the one that’s got to get up here and put a a nice face on this mess okay now there reporting coming out that Rogers planned a trip during rehab when he was rehabing and didn’t know exactly when you know mini camp was going to be so what you didn’t want to get the change fee it’s like I’m just saying this is the this is legitimate reporting that is out there and that it’s not excused because you can’t excuse a trip that’s what the reporting is out there now that with all respect to the reporters sounds like spin of course that sounds like spin because you’re exactly right first of all Rogers had an idea I don’t know if he knew they would have known the exact dates of the mini camp at that time but he had an idea of when it takes when it takes place right and so and even if it did conflict like you said you got enough money to change the make it’s two days you can change the trip so this is flights into the Great New York City area oh okay good point we had Ephraim Salam who played 15 years in the league as an offensive lineman on our show the eye couple last night right and he said that if he were a veteran playing and he said he believes the veterans are bothered by this of course now the young kids who still look up to Aaron Rodgers and maybe they’re not but the veterans are like look I had to come here and work for these two days you you going to be on vacation it’s two days look I don’t think it’s going to ruin the way he plays if he has a bad year it’s not going to be because of this if he has a great year obviously this this wouldn’t matter but it sets a bad tone it makes you look hypocritical yes and and the veterans got they’re men I don’t care how good you are they’re grown men can I tell you here’s a I understand that line of thinking and Connor Hughes had this tweet and I’ll just it’s a long tweet but I’ll just focus on the bottom part uh Roger missing two days after being at every on her will have zero impact on what the Jets and Rogers accomplished this then why have it so I agree either a why have it and why we had Dusty make a list of all the quarterbacks that are at mini camp so you can argue that it’s not a huge deal but to all of these guys who are busy and have other things well so Trevor’s not there because excuse right well they excused a bunch of veterans in Jacksonville but it’s everyone Jacksonville decided to make it more about young guys and then it’s every other starting quarterback and these guys are all there yeah so if it’s not going to affect the Jets is it going to affect the Seahawks because Gino’s there everybody’s there except you so you can’t tell me like the whole thing you can’t be on a vacation can I throw out a you cannot be on vacation so one thing that people have wondered floral maybe most notably but I tend to agree that it’s a legitimate question and one thing that OS sensibly the Jets do deserve to be criticized for is since all the reporting is they have known about this for quite some time to not have this come out a month ago right so and it doesn’t really make a lot of sense why wouldn’t you say at some point during OTAs yeah you know and by the way you know we know Aaron’s not going to be able to be at mini camp and then it’s a story but at least when mini Camp’s going on people already know it so here’s the theory they were hoping he’d change his mind oh that’s a good take that the reason they had to wait until he actually didn’t show up is the whole time it’s been we’d still love Aaron we’d love to have you if there’s anything we you know what I mean you want to use what he’s playing like not sure where you’re you know we can is there a way okay we know you’re not going to be there but you know we let’s just see you know leave the door open it’s the only explanation as to why they didn’t get ahead of it was they were hoping that he would change his mind and then mini camp opens he hasn’t and now Robert Salah has to be like two guys not here the guy who didn’t want us to trade for him unless we gave him a contract and the quarterback who our entire offseason’s been built around so the can I tell you one other odd angle to this where is he he’s somewhere on vacation well then just say the word vacation you said the word event we don’t know what that means Salah seems like he knows he’s see I I think that Shawn Payton’s Broncos tenure thus far has been Rocky and I think that he now they did win eight games and they had won five the year before so you give credit for that and there’s the and they rebounded from the 70 piece they gave up I get so I’m trying to be fair but he was brought there to fix the quarterback situation and they gave a quarterback close to 90 million to go away and then in my opinion and others they massively overdrafted a quarterback that is you know past the age most NFL players retire when entering the league and so I think those are question marks and so we’ll see that’s what I would say well look it was interesting that he said and he was playing around with the media having fun he was in a good mood apparently but that as I’ve gotten older I’ve stopped using the middle fingers it was just a year ago that he basically was throwing middle fingers at everybody so I’m not buying that that and look his legacy’s not on the line no but we are in a what have you done for me lately world all right and I do think it’s kind of like Russell Wilson Russell Wilson nobody can take away from him that he was a great quarterback but because of what he’s done these last two years people look at him kind of H you know and and that’s where Payton’s at right now he was great and he left New Orleans with a phenomenal Legacy and reputation all right but if he keep losing in Denver people just start you just start digging well he did have the three seven to n Seasons with the Hall of Fame quarterback H there was that Bounty gate thing you know there you just start looking at things a little bit differently again Mike Shanahan failed in Washington so it wouldn’t ruin what Payton did in New Orleans but he should have a chip on his shoulder because thus far he is failing it’s only been one year but he is failing so it’s because and again I don’t think it’s failing because they went eight and N because I think that actually was something of a that was the best year Denver’s had in six years I think I think failing because he was hired with the idea of you’re going to get Russell Wilson turned back around and instead whatever fair or Underneath Him has actually never won a playoff game but regardless Josh Allen is in at two is this too high no I don’t think it’s I think you can argue it for sure look Joe burrow kind of last year was unanimously or not unanimously but largely viewed as the second best he’s hurt too much now if he gets through this year 16 17 games and plays in the playoffs and all that fine but right now he’s hurt too much so I have no problem putting Josh Allen ahead of him okay my argument would be this and I’m not going to argue it too strongly but I think you can make an argument that Lamar Jackson should be number two and here it is two MVPs to zero and we’re not talking about ancient history we’re talking about last year he was MVP all right he’s never had a receiver like Stefan Diggs right right Josh Allen has had one of the top receivers for the bulk of his career and uh Lamar has never had that Lamar is as accurate I mean their accuracy is similar with both of them Lamar I would say maybe some will disagree he’s the better Runner even last year when he didn’t run as much he ran for more yards than Josh Allen ever has he ran for over 800 Josh has never run for 800 Lamar’s got the two 1,000 yard rushing years now we know Josh had a ton of touchdowns but a lot of those are at the goal line you could give into a running back I’m just saying oh now we’re discounting talking I’m just stating fast oh wow but I I my point is that you could certainly argue and if it’s close why not give it to the guy with the MVP last year so I I think you could have put Lamar I tell you why they didn’t give it a guy with the MVP last year because the last time we saw him play he looked out of his sort entirely out of sorts here’s the thing now the I understand that there was an odd the there was right and there was a you know a interesting internet back and forth seemingly between me and Lamar but it there is no ill will and he even stated as much in a later tweet after he sent a funny gift of a monkey with a long nose that’s fine it happens it was all in good fun um I I really like and root for Lamar but as I said which spurred that interaction which I will will say here is if every year of your career your worst game of the season is your last game of the season and it’s a playoff game that is going to be hard forget being the second best quarterback in football it’s I would be lying if I said I would rather have Lamar than CJ Stout I wouldn’t there are I would rather have Lamar than Matt Stafford I wouldn’t well you’d rather have CJ stad than Lamar yes we saw them play against each other I understand but that I that last tce I I understand that if you’re so like I said you might disagree if you are asking me if I am tied up to a lie detector and I’m like hey I need to win a Super Bowl Patrick Mahomes is off the board give me your list of quarterbacks would I say CJ Stroud’s name before Lamar I would would I say Matt Stafford’s name before Lamar I would would I say Joe Burrow’s name before Lam Mars of course I would would I say Josh Allen for as much of as criticism of Josh Allen I’ve had of course I would of course yes because I’ve never because it it it can’t be that every year of your career your worst your team’s worst offensive performance and your worst individual performance is in your playoff game it once that’s happened four times it’s not a coincidence it’s a structural problem he is on the team and has been on teams no great receivers no great running back and he is carrying them the 75% wins in the regular season and fairly at least this year they got to the conference Championship so I have two questions about the receivers thing one is are we going to retroactively change any opinion on that if Hollywood Brown is but again the question is is that is who you’re chasing that is who you’re competing with but the the other part of it is it’s not for lack of trying no since drafting Lamar no team has spent more top 100 pick draft capital on receivers than the Ravens so maybe they’re bad at picking the position or maybe who who’s the great receiver there and I like flowers I me I’m not saying what Z turns into does the game can feel differently on what you’re watching or maybe what you’re watching versus what the camera’s showing Jason Tatum seemed like a player who was thinking the whole game 100% who was not reading and he always feels a little bit like that I shouldn’t say always but that’s like a criticism of his it’s less it’s less read reac and more but it felt like everything was a a beat off because he was indecisive in between decisions was part of that that man these folks we got cuz it wasn’t just that kids said it it was that Drew then I don’t think really thinking about it immediately co-signed it I was like yeah well he ain’t lying here’s why Jaylen Brown’s great and I think Drew was just trying to be good to jayen Brown and wasn’t thinking about the what it meant and and there and so that you’ve got that Luca’s banged up I give Luca much credit and he is not making a big deal out of it but the dud is dealing with what three injuries yeah I seemed more concerned are going to they’re going to have to have cornett’s out there being a drop instead of switching there are so many things that Chris staps unavailability would mean for them and in this series if we show you the numbers plus it’s dead even with Chris steps off the court and the the thing that jumps out to me the most it’s a seven-point drop in the Celtics field goal percentage and a seven-point jump in the Mavs field goal percentage so I agree that I even if he tries to play I don’t think he’s going to be very effective I will just throw this out at you look you’re playing you’re not playing you know playoff caliber teams all the time this might shock y’all though Boston’s record without porzingis this year oh it’s unbelievable 21 and4 yeah that’s 8 they were obviously ran 43 and 14 right yeah now they didn’t look to great to me against the Pacers without porz but I’m just saying they’re still a capable team it’s a matchups thing and I think that that would be incredibly significant I also think we are slight I think that the Celtics looked like the far better team for the first quarter of game one I think for the rest of game one it was an even game literally and eye testwise and in game two it felt to me like that game was nip and Tuck until the the tail end of the third or the middle of the third quarter when it felt like the Celtics took control and then the Mavs tried to make that Furious come back at the end I don’t think it is as lopsided as 20 is lopsided in the standings and if the Celtics all of a sudden are going to have to I also think Horford’s minutes Horford’s production will be worse because 20 minutes of Al Horford he can go all out he’s the oldest player that plays in the league other than LeBron and I think Chris Paul like there is he I just think all of that speaks to that the Mavs are far more likely to win four of the next five and the Celtics are to sweep them maybe how much does burrow have left in the tank I don’t want to argue with you that was a fair argument Joe burrow has been injured uh few times in his short career it’s not only taking a toll on his body taking a toll on his mindset as well take a listen it’s definitely something I’ve thought about yeah you know whenever the injuries start to stack up it’s your football mortality kind of comes into the back of your mind so that’s definitely something that I’ve thought about and something that I’ve had to to fight through that’s that’s every injury that happens you know they they they stack and you know you continue to think about how you can get better from those and how you can come back an improved player I kind of like Joe Cool better introspective Joe makes me worried bro what’s your reaction he’s being honest now maybe you don’t want to hear that but to describe him in any other way besides injury prone at this point would just be disingenuous he’s missed 13 games in four years he’s only been healthy for two of his Four Seasons all right so his last injury well the second to last he just got hurt rolling out in practice all right and then the risk injury I know he heard that in the game but you know we saw him with the brace on and like and and he dating back to college he had some injury issues as well and so yeah this is a problem and that look Beyond just the physical issue of can he stay healthy if it’s in his head and you got to kind of Wonder well how would it not be in his head right that you are injury-prone that I’m out here I could get hurt can I do this can I do that it’s a battle I think he can get through it because he is a great quarterback but he is going to have to go out and prove to us and maybe to himself that he is not injury PR so or flip side of that is his team needs to acknowledge that he is and treat him as such which they have not so like they I I hesitate and I don’t mean to always use the Chiefs as the gold standard but I will in this regard once again I apologize Patrick momes got hurt in the fluki way imaginable on a play that is Run a thousand times a season by every quarterback over the course of history Tom Brady ran it more than anyone never got hurt on it and always succeeded on it Patrick Mahomes five years ago got hurt on it one time the Chiefs did not call a they still haven’t called a quarterback sneak they did not call another designed quarterback run until overtime of the Super Bowl on fourth down y cuz they were were like and Patrick Mahomes is not injury prone that’s the only time he’s ever missed missed games in his career now he’s had sprained ankle he played through but he is the opposite of injury-prone he’s not quite you know far or Manning as far as the Iron Man but he’s not injury prone we have to protect him Tua obviously injury concern the Dolphins had a whole program in place including what his body was going to look like him practicing nonf football like jiujitsu What offense they’re going to run to acknowledge it the Bengals had Joe burrow in training camp with a calf sleeve instead of sitting and he tweaks it the Bengals had Joe burrow on an airplane with a wrist brace and then he gets hurt I just don’t trust that organization to recognize that this guy is needs to be treated in a certain way and I don’t BL listen I don’t you guys know how much you said Brew going into last year he was kind of universally considered the second best quarterback in football for me that started a couple years ago I think he’s great and I also think that he is the only quarterback that I think’s great that doesn’t have like the measurables that I love from arm strength and stuff like that because he’s so A+ in accuracy and Leadership and all all those things right a lot a lot like Brady and I just don’t I don’t trust up to this point the Bengals haven’t treated his injuries with the level of concern that I think other teams would BR remember when he was asked how big his Super Bowl window was Cincinnati Super Bowl window closing and he said famously the window is my whole career so that’s kind of the opposite that’s the Very Long View we can always win now he’s like you know what thinking about my football mortality if I was in they need to be looking at it as Super Bowl or bus this year right because you got two of your key players who have asked to be traded presumably won’t be on the team next year all right and you got to pay Jamar now I don’t know if they’ll pay him this year or not but they’ll pay if okay if your if your quarterback gets injured again you still might pay him but does that at least comes into your thought process so they should be like almost on a one year-to-year plan with burrow yeah like let’s we got to go all out every year and the the and if Bengals fans are watching this and think it’s being too harsh what is concerning so we can throw out the torn AC I would throw out the torn ACL maybe that’s unfair maybe that’s but it was happen that and if you watched the play it feels like yeah every ACL gets torn by that you know what I mean it was a terrible offensive line it got it was the concern literal concern when people were like don’t go there they don’t have this infrastructure all those things that one the in my opinion last year he suffered two very significant injuries on diametrically opposed parts of the body both in relatively benol circumstances one totally in rolling out
