all right golfers I want to start a new series where I’m going to pick one of the winners of last week’s tour events and we’re going to talk about what you can learn from their golf swing so obviously last week Lynn Grant epic comeback on the European tour uh coming back from 11 shots to win my own personal student Callum Hill finished second it was an awesome week uh but I want to talk about what you can learn from Lyn’s golf swing she does something extremely well that a lot of people struggle with which is she shallows the club very nicely in transition now I’ve often spoken about the fact that there’s obviously more than one way to do this you know your wrist angles are going to manipulate the shaft movement as well as the club face your forearms are going to manipulate the shaft movement in the club face your Trail arm as well there’s so many different variables involved of course the amount of hand depth you have and so on I want to highlight specifically the forearms in Lynn’s case you know one of the things that she does extremely well is she goes from a forearm position that is much more closed in the back swing to a forearm position that opens into the transition so what does that mean it basically means if for me as a right-handed golfer if I take my forearms and I rotate them to my left in the back swing I used to use the analogy of like driving a car rotating the steering wheel to your left well if I take my two forearms and I do this you’ll notice I’ll close them down so this is going to help me to keep the club head outside the hands in the takeaway obviously a lot of golfers pull the club inside a lot to benefit from in doing that but also if I keep them closed long enough as I’m going up the shaft will start to work a lot more vertical right well of course every action needs a reaction so if you’re going to keep the forearms very closed than the back swing they are going to be more than likely going to rotate into the transition well if I take my forums and I rotate them open everybody knows that’s a death move if it happens in the takeaway but what do you think about if I rotate my forearms now into my transition instead so the timing of when my forearms are actually rotating open well if I take my forearms and I take a shaft that’s very vertical and then I rotate my forearms to my trail side so for me as a right to my right well I’m going to take this shaft and I’m actually going to shallow it out quite a bit the only thing you need to be careful with and this is where I want to highlight ly’s golf swing is when you rotate your forearms open in transition yes it will help you to shallow this club especially if the club is vertical enough before you do it but it’s going to also open the face angle and so in order to combat this you need a club face that is either going to be very closed going back so not only having the forarms rotate closed but maybe having a stronger grip to match to keep that club face obviously a lot more shut as it goes up so that once you take this top of back swing position that’s vertical and closed and we rotate the forearms even if the club face opens slightly it still stays in a square enough position so you are matching up the back swing to how the club Works in transition or and this is not something Lynn does but you can have the lead wrist working into much more flection on the way down and what that means is if we take more of a neutral grip Club face might not be as Clos here but when we go up to the top and we rotate the forearms we’ll shallow the club but the face opens but if we do that the same forearm rotation but we add some bow to the wrist we can keep that club face a lot more Square obviously coming down so in her case what she does really well she’s got a slightly stronger left hand grip which helps her keep the club face more close going back and then all you’re doing is forearms really closed to fourarms open in transitioning you’ll notice how this movement will help you to shallow the club a lot more which obviously incentivizes a lot of good things with with the body is able to do on the way down so I just wanted to highlight that piece this is something that’s really easy to implement in your golf swing right most higher handicappers you’ll typically see the opposite you’ll see forearms open to forearms closed which steepens the club try to reverse the script on that forearms much more closed to forearms much more open to start to really improve the movement of the shaft in your golf swing okay
