why do baseball players wear gloves they haven’t always the first confirmed use was by Charlie weight the St Louis Brown stockings first baseman in 1875 and back then it was not common because it was not necessary in a game in which did not yet have today’s velocity as the sport sped up many players still did not want to wear gloves believing that they diminished their masculinity when weight wore his he had actually been heckled by the crowd and by other players but by the end of the 19th century due to broken and bruised fingers players started to get over these inhibitions and gloves became more common and advanced but the evolution to what we know today came in 1920 when pitcher Bill do invented and patented the pouch between the thumb and the first finger preventing broken bones and acting as a precursor to every baseball glove made sense

Would you wanna catch a ball without one? That’s the answer
What i dont get is how the pouch was allowed. It clearly would have been such a big advantage at the time
Bro took 60 seconds out of my day to tell me that? How about… with exit velos getting up to 121 mph you might wanna glove. 😂
