wedges are arguably the most important clubs in your bag chip shots getting up and down these will really help you lower your handicap So today we’re going to look at the top five wedges of 2024 let’s do it tap in tap in PA shot oh my God go it we’re here today at Mannings Heath Golf and Min state to talk about the top five wedges of 2024 and in fifth place we have the Cleveland RTX full face 2 so Johnny Cleveland at number five talk to me about this wedge so yeah the RTX full face 2 as you can probably guess from the name has a full face of wedges and it’s got a kind of high toe design which is designed to improve forgiveness keeps the ball on the face for longer increases friction increases spin etc etc um the two kind of key bits of tech are the zip core which is like a low density core which allows weight to be moved to the perimeter which is said to increase mui by about 133% okay increase forgiveness that’s a lot and who who doesn’t love an extra bit of forgiveness of their wedges so yeah the second bit is Hydra zip which is a kind of dynamic blast laser Mill system on the grooves which is uh intended to improve friction increased Spin and in all conditions so even if you wet the face you’re still going to be able to get the same kind of performance you’d expect from a dry shot okay so all things considered yeah there’s a lot of tech there I think it’s it’s it’s primarily I mean anyone could really use this club but it is one of the more forgiving wedges that I’ve tested this year profile wise what does it look like down to address is it a big one is it is it a pair drop finish it it is it is quite a big one it’s more kind of rounded at the I guess you’d call that the toe it’s the high toe design it’s more rounded than other high toe models that we have tested um but yeah I mean it looks good behind the ball sure um I’m I’m actually quite a big fan of full face wedges I’ve used full face for in my kind of 6056 for a couple of years now so I’m kind of used to it may take so I’m getting used to for those who maybe AR familiar with it um but yeah no it look it looks lovely down it des and we’ve got a kind of matte finish as well on the face so you don’t get any glare any glare which we will definitely get on a lovely day at man today hit a shot for me and let’s see how it feels as well thanie deep oh oh there is okay Hydra there I actually I actually did catch that a little bit thin yeah we were kind of aiming for the front pin and that’s obviously gone maybe kind of 10 15 yards past that’s more of a kind of pilot error than the actual Club itself um but I mean that I knew I felt that was th you get a certain amount of feedback from these clubs which you’d expect um I have tested the extensively elsewhere and I can tell you that the feel of them is is really lovely it’s crisp you feel a lot of friction on the ball which I really like um and yeah overall a very very good offering from Cleveland cool so let’s run up to the green now and see how the Cleveland W performs we’re doing a little chip shop Johnny so we’re on the green now yeah talk to me about this being number five why is it number four number three number two number one um so two reasons one is uh looks visually I just prefer the others in the list U not to say that this is a badl looking club by any means but I just prefer the design and look down at a dress um of kind of 4 32 and one um and the second reason is just it’s just a feel thing more than anything uh slightly to do with weight but I just prefer um yeah just the swing weight of particularly the Ping that’s probably my favorite um but yeah not to say it’s bad but just not my favorite sure hit a bump and run and hit one to the little pin over there fil me o a a oh this man’s a pro this man’s a pro he’s turned up today that’s number five I can’t wait number one is hey I didn’t say it was bad Club it’s not my favorite they were all good clubs and so is number four let’s get to that now at number four we’ve got the pxg sugar daddy 2 so Alex what is it about the pxg sugar daddy 2os that you particularly like so Johnny this is all about optimization yes I will say it is a very very expensive wedge suedes all of the others perhaps a little bit too expensive for people watching this video which is why we have placed it rather uh high in the list but we can see we’ve got a lot of wor customizable waiting here across the toe and also quite low down improving Moi improving that ball flight some wedges don’t have that much versatility and customization in terms of balance and grind options this has so much but number one just Pips it but this is why you actually actually seen some of this in some PGA staff plays bags as well these can be used on tour the only downfall for me is that price putting it a little bit too expensive there that being said um it actually has been discounted a little bit so you can get a decent deal but it is still about100 or so too expensive looking down at it yes it’s a full face of grooves as well that we’ve got with a full face these days it’s still quite compact if you look at that for me it’s not a big wedge down at a dress um somewhat peir droppy but uh for a wedge that’s pxg that some people sometimes think oh the feels not as good proper forged I would tend to really disagree with yeah I think they they feel absolutely lovely and the weight is fantastic as well really good right let’s see if you can stick this closer how far you say This was um I said about 83 yards I think to the front pin it’s not 82 that’s fine that’s all over it that looks quite nice little bit on the short side and I tell you what I think this is quite good there with an O this full face of grooves that was slightly high as you can see with that there it’s coming through a little bit toy but we’ve still got about 10t or so so a forgiving wedge just a little bit too expensive let’s see how you fair when we chip it on the Green okayi so pxg in at number four tell me why so number four is still good this is still a very good wedge the main thing for me is price and also feel number number two number one I think especially feel a little bit softer which I think is quite premium and needed for a wedge but just being a good mini 100% more expensive for some wedges yes I know you can get it discounted just makes it a little bit too much like and price is so so important nowadays it really is uh that being said though I used it for a good season and a half which is actually a lot for me is it um and it performed very well so little bump and run and then slightly longer chip just to that back right pin oh God I get quite a yeah yeah they come out quite L I think you’re just closing the face down a bit aren’t you that’s what I do bite didn’t spin no love it is that was actually quite a nice nice strike there it’s still a lovely feel just slightly not I like the word hard yeah but just there’s something a little bit softer and we’re going to talk about that now when we go to number three and if third place the tailor made Mills grind 4 so Alex I’m going to lean on your expertise here talk me through the key features I guess of the tailor made mil grind 4 wedes mil grind 4 released last year so we could say a little bit outdated but the main thing I want to talk about is those micro rib grooves if you just pass me this here it’s got a raw face in between the grooves here we’ve actually got some micro rib grooves now this is obviously very good for spin but it’s very good for spin in all weather conditions so if it’s very dry like it is right now we’ve actually got some moisture on the ground traditionally what you get with wedges when it is very wet is the spin will decrease a lot so you might air more some greens you need soft greens for it to land with these the spin is going to stay consistent we’ve actually tested this the spin does still drop about 500 RPMs or so but compared to other wedges compared to wedges 5 years ago from tailor made big improv big Improvement now that being said I did notice that those micro grooves to some lower quality golf balls ate them for dinner really did if you got a ball that’s like a super soft or in that 20 category the durability wear away especially with those new new wedge grooves right now though this mg4 is about a year old we had the raw face as well the reason why I think it’s not not number two or number one is personally my aesthetical looks for it I think there are some some that are a little bit better yeah I I’d agree with that it’s not it’s not compared to one and two it’s not as good looking D dress I actually having said that though I do really like the soul design I think that’s really yeah really lovely say you got two things there don’t we down at dress I think is most important but shelf appeal uh superb and I love that black finish too yeah right in for me definitely thein the number sit oh okay I’ve just missed it slightly right little bit clean again maybe or was all right yeah I just I think I just left the club face open to touch impact there but I mean it felt good it was just yeah just misjudged it just just missed the green three or four yards right still take it 30 foot or so let’s now go to the green hit a chip shot and talk a little bit more about the feel of the tailor made mg4 tailor made at number three Johnny I still think that’s a very good position for tailor indeed why is it I mean it’s another excellent wedge this is just kind of down to personal preference at this stage um I just love the look of the Ping in the tight list down at add dress feel is also fantastic this is also very good but for some reason it has just been pipped to the post this year yeah well number three is still very good for Taylor May climbing up the wedge game check this in for me a Spanish hands oh an up and down oh Miga and hit the Top Spin loveely shot again oh thank you very much is a he’s on one today kind of concerned Taylor ma all of them they’re performing very well all these are all we we’ve obviously banged on about this a lot these are all excellent wedges it’s very fine margins when it comes to the difference between one two and three and four and five 100% I think two and one though are as close as anything we going to get on to number two now in second place we have the brand new ping s159 wedges so Johnny the Ping s159 these are your Gamers these are my Gamers at the moment yeah I’ve got them in 50 54 and 58 so a nice little selection um why I mean I love the new design that was the first thing that kind of Drew me to them and then after a period of testing they just performed really well for me okay um yes throughout all the different Lofts um they’re just yeah very versatile I’ve got them in an S grind which is kind of designed to fit the majority of golfers it’s kind of like middle of the ground so to speak um but yeah we’ve also got a kind of friction finish as you can see similar to the uh tailor Maids you’ve got these kind of like micro abrasions in between the grooves which are designed to increase spin um and another cool thing that ping have introduced us year is a app that helps you get fitted into these before you’re fitting or if you’re buying online you’d answer a couple of questions takes no more than two minutes and from that it will give you a grind profile which you can then either use to purchase your wedges online or you can go to your fitter straight in and be like this is what I think fits me and then you can go from there which is yeah a nice a nice addition from ping kind takes off people getting off the rack just exactly yeah just buying whatever just CU they think it’s available in the shop which would potentially be a mistake massively depends on the kind of turf you play on and your angle of attack and all these kind of things okay well hit a shot for me yeah lovely shot here you can tell by that shot there going in the green for about 20t away you can tell that that bounce and grind is the correct one for you just by the way and actually the turf interaction was spot on so so different let’s now go up to the green now I’ll have Johnny chip again cuz it’s your wedge and we’ll just talk a little bit more about why it’s not number one so Johny this is your wedge we tested a lot them how close is this to the number one spot now I mean personally we’ve had this discussion a lot I I would actually personally have this as my number one hence why it’s in the bag but we’ve had a kind of Frank discussion about it and it has just been Pi by T by Titleist this year um I think it’s been a big Improvement on the Glide range yeah um in terms of profile um performance still kind of I’d say fairly similar to be completely honest um but at the end of the day performance it was just slightly worse than titlist we talked about the spin rates already and that was is kind of the key deciding factor this year yeah either way show me what it’s in your bag all right no pressure little Zippy on as well yeah wasn’t my best connection actually but I mean the forgiveness is there still yeah this is the money maker this is the money maker zip lovely shot oh my God go in loveely on smoke the second one was better than the first hard ship yeah absolutely right well yeah and that is why I love the pink s159 wedges but I love the tight list sm10 and that’s number one number one and the best wedge of 2024 tit list sm10 so Alex talk to me about the new sm10 from tit list happily sir these are my Gamers there will be a lot of PJ toour players the golfers gaming these as well comparing it from the sm9 to sm10 not a big difference that is definitely not a bad thing now I think tit list offer the most versatility customization for bounce grind options um I was lucky enough to fit for these and what was really interesting is similar to actually ping they do have an online feature you can use but it’s a little bit more in depth it actually requires for you to hit some shots as well and for me they were able to kind of tell me everything for a um gap wedge Sand Wedge lob wedge pretty much I really liked a few of the new bounce and grind options that they had compared to the sm9 now there’s a little bit of optimization in terms of the CG placement to make that Bol flight kind of low and spinning some of the PJ tour play the sm9 were actually slightly draw by us which I found quite fascinating I didn’t feel that but when you’re working in iterations of wedges there’s not going to be that many big things margins exactly and to be honest they don’t need to do too much compared to the sm9 no they were also particularly good wedges they were very very good not too much of a difference down at a dress I do have the new jet black finish one thing I will say is I may have made a mistaken that I probably would have gone to a different one just the knowing of the durability of it but that being said shelf appeal tight list takes the top spot for me very very difficult to beat it I would say they’re probably the same in 10 years time they’re really are firmly at the top spot of wedges do you think someone will beat them in the next 5 to 10 years um I I would never say never I think I think we’ve like what we’ve seen from ping in recent years is really good growth and they’ve improved year on year so I don’t think there’s anything stopping a brand from dethroning tit list at the top of the table I Like Your Enthusiasm funnily enough we did actually really compare the sm10 to the Ping s159 performance wide what we noticed is actually these spin a little bit more and the s159 a little bit lower yeah they came out touch low and the the spin was lower from the pings but actually the stopping power was almost identical pretty similar yeah so I would say these spin a little bit more especially for the shots that you probably want a little bit more spin of but the overall actual data metrics we’re looking at in terms of carry total pretty equidistant weren’t they uh feel wise we’ll talk about that on the green I’m just going to hit to three foot and then we’ll go over there that was really nice here the turf interaction it’s been a little B so touch long stopped pretty much but what we’re seeing there and we’re talking about kind of custom fitting era that we have with wedges the last shots that we’ both hit there with ping with tight list you can actually tell the difference and you can tell why these are Gamers you can you can actually hear the difference as well in the second Direction yeah it’s it’s funny because I mean even on on grass you can hear you can actually hear it on mats as well um so I know I would never encourage custom fitting on mats but I can see my divot there is very good actually the divot there with that was a pxg which wasn’t fully custom fitted for me uh because my swing’s now changed you can look at that that’s completely different so we’re now going to go up to to the green here with this little lob wedge and I’m going to really utilize the bounce and grind even more so hopefully hold a chip shot would’ love to see it right so taking the number one spot for what second third fourth year in a row we have tit and many years to come as well I will I will cave out this and say Johnny short game is very very good right now I am I’m struggling a little bit with some shots um so almost like you know who was it Johnson Wagner last the PG Champs I’m going to say something in Chun Kip hopefully not but one thing you’ve got this in your locker yeah one thing I do love about this Club is just to feel especially from Shots like this like the turf interaction when when you’re able to be fit for wedges you can really tell the difference and that’s why we will always say for wedges especially know your bounce 100% know what club would work for you um yes it can to be custom fitting it also takes some research some knowledge as well what conditions you play in and whatnot um Factor let’s see if I can not dunk one let’s see if I can get up and down get this nice and close tap in tap in parent ship there we go a little bit handsy it’s my kind setting my hands and then the transition I’m just think Dan grieve get him in your head that’s all I think about mate oh that’s very delicate that was nice just rolled out bit a little bit roll yeah I pushed it just slightly but I mean that is it’s just such a nice feeling wedge and that is why we put it at a number one spot but as we said throughout this video all of these wedges in this video are very good wedges to purchase you really won’t go wrong with any of the top brands in 2024 but if like us you want to scrutinize all of them and see which one’s best but just
