do you know when something like that happens like the internet does it great the internet comes alive and so proud of like the the memes like it’s the best thing isn’t it foreplay presented by bar stool Sports it is US Open week we’re live from Pinehurst we’re at the dornet cottage which we’ll get into five years since we did a podcast here first time we were ever at Pinehurst things have changed dramatically since then Tommy fleetwood’s on this show one of our all-time favorite uh Dan sat down with him for a while I think it’s 40 45 minutes we’ve got from the memorial last week he’s finished with a couple diabolical runs at us opens um at shinok he shot that final round 63 and sort of put himself on the map uh he’s played very well in the US opens before and I would say of all the tailor made guys yeah there’s Rory yeah there’s Scotty yeah there’s k mo cow there’s a lot of great player I think the tailor make guys root for Tommy harder than they root for anybody because he’s just a man so uh excited to have Tommy Fleetwood on this show spoiler I heard Danny did a speed golf with him and the first question was who’s your favorite member of foreplay and without hesitation he said me well that’s no doubt so especially right now you’re hot in the streets you know I know yeah he’s uh I love Tommy Fleetwood the whole world should love Tommy flew and I’m excited to have him on the show that’s um that’s very exciting we’re back at the dornet cottage which is stunning sitting in the sun we are sitting in the sun um Piner the US Open is here we can see from our backyard the T everything set up the third hle is right here it’s pretty crazy it’s got to be a crazy week for you Rick you got a house on this golf course it is yeah it no it’s been uh it’s been kind of a surreal day walking around and seeing what is pretty much a peaceful town that and Frankie was here three weeks or so ago and putting out that video I think it’s coming out Wednesday yep tomorrow uh so Tuesday today no tomorrow you’re talking about like we right we posted the podcast I see so Wednesday it’s coming out Wednesday uh it’s a pretty I mean yeah there’s a lot of buddies trips that come here it’s a destination but it’s generally a pretty peaceful like sleepy Place yeah you know it goes to everybody kind of goes to bed earlier it’s a lot of retirees mov down here and then they join Country Club of our pioner country club and they play golf and they drive around in their golf cart and it’s kind of Southern so it’s just kind of a quieter Place seeing it now with the USGA flags all over the place with they’ve got screens that are replaying you know different us opens and championships that have been here seeing all the best players there’s a seriousness around the US Open that we’ve kind of been able to witness the different us opens we’ve gone to that has now descended upon the place and it’s cool the buildout is wild they moved Payne Stewart from behind the 18th green over into like the fan entrance area so when you walk down the main entrance I couldn’t believe they move pay either uh I don’t think you should do that yeah I was a little uh I I I didn’t love it wait wait wait they moved him from where he normally is he’s usually right behind the 18th green just off to the left yeah and I will say that I I a little bit I understand it more having been here a month or so ago because they have a gigantic grand stand up if you’re walking up 18 the entire left side and the end of it sort of cut Payne’s view off from the 18th green so I was like well that seems a little disrespectful to the pain statue that he like can’t see the green barely that’s his green and then I saw uh Instagram where I mean they they picked him up and they moved I why don’t we just put the Statue of Liberty in Kansas no I like it they’re giving him what’s a statue without its base I mean they you can get into it they they’ve moved like statue of David all over the place in in Florence but that’s that was that wasn’t a statue that was a sculpture that’s different you put a statue I would actually argue that it’s act it’s crazier to move someone’s sculpture that they like put in a specific place outside of a specific building that they crafted with their own hands and just move it because you want it in a more touristy spot as opposed to like the paint Stewart statue it’s not like he put it there they’re just do they’re just Memorial memorializing him in some fashion at Piner does it matter if it’s behind the 18th or if it’s in the entrance he didn’t put it there you know what I mean it’s not his guess my question is did Da Vinci say I want my statue here yeah cuz moving a sculpture toin died he had not he didn’t know that it was going to be in the museum to me moving a sculpture you can move a painting it’s the same thing but you see what my point though like he built it outside of this like this Chapel or this like huge building right in the middle of Florence and then now it’s in like a it’s in a museum I guess I don’t know what his intentions were I don’t think it was to be in like an AC like room where like they’re going to sell tickets and [ __ ] whatever it if was like if they were hosting like the Olympics in Kansas and they brought the Statue of Liberty I think that’d be awesome that’d be pretty epic honly the the transporting of the Liberty would be unbelievable I will say you’d be real robbed if you were in New York City during that time yeah and you’re like where is it it’s just like an empty hole in the island but how many people can take photos in front of it now it’s so much more accessible I’m sure the logic behind it is is is sound I’ve just never thought about having a statue and moving it around you’re going to hate the video it’s it’s stunning is it not is it like not I it’s it’s a crane with ropes and they just lift them and the dirt’s like flying everywhere they I mean they kind of dug them out of the dirt didn’t somebody on our podcast like a couple years ago say that they like put something underneath the paint Stewart yeah they put like um it wasn’t an engagement ring was it yeah I think it was an engagement ring or wow yeah like their ring right it was something like that and I don’t remember what I mean we called now it’s in a bunch of just dirt right that’s what I mean well that’s a good point actually like if you put something around a statue that means a lot to you and then they move it you’re like damn that’s just rolling that rolling down that com true like especially if somebody I don’t know who somebody’s from Springfield Missouri right and their grandfather’s best favorite player was Payne Stewart and they like sprinkled some ashes around that spot now now those ashes are just like that’s right they just watch pay get craned out of I don’t think you can be moving statues like that that’s my official position that part gets a little real but but Frankie is right like it is it’s cool cuz they’ve got the entryway is basically the 18th Fairway of Piner number one I believe it is and they’ve made it sort of um they’ve almost got a median in the middle that’s got like a nice grass strip and then you kind of walk on both sides and pay is like this circular spot in the middle that like he’s saying everyone’s doing the pose and walking right by him he’s getting a lot more love than he would have gotten tucked behind the the grand stand there but I you know if I know the folks here Piner the way I do I I think that when they saw that video part of them too was like yeah just taking them out with a crane yeah not it’s not that great but you guys are right ultimately I think you’re probably right we’ve got Mike aie and Tommy Fleetwood are getting ready to come down the third hole on the left side of the third hole I don’t know that we are really as accessible that he could come off of the golf course over here no we’re kind of wish we had a ro a ro a roving mic Noe roaming mic roaming roaming roaming mic we’re kind of tucked behind a grand stands not unlike paint Stewart’s original position right that’s exactly right this episode of foreplay is brought to you and sponsored by our lovely friends at Chevy Chevrolet I’ve got a Chevy this week as my rental car it’s just delightful the Chevy Blazer Eevee is Motor Trends top SUV of the entire year of all SUVs that have ever been created wow yeah number one I mean luxury SUVs gas electric you name it they got it motor Tren judged all of them all of them and said this one right here is the best one Chevy just said we’re just going to make the best one and they did so I got a new um backyard table like on my patio and we had to take it home from the store and it was so long that we couldn’t fit it in any cars and my buddy I [ __ ] you not with a Chevy Silverado flatbed fit all nine chairs and the 13 ft long table all in the back as if it was no issue and everyone else’s cars was just like you have to make Seven Trips you got to rent the U nope the Chevy just got it done just a man man’s car their get [ __ ] done vehicle it’s just a man’s car he showed up I was like you guys need help yep chevy.com Blazer EV that’s where I want you to go you can go check out lease offers and amazing deals Chevrolet together let’s drive that is chevy.com Blazer they got a 17.7 inch standard diagonal display screen EPA estimated 324 miles of range on a full charge chevy.com Blazer [Music] I’m fired up the golf course reviews so far are that it’s uh the players like it and then it’s really really hard I like that too US Open we kind of me and Dan did a couple shows last week where we just couldn’t help it we were getting into US Open prep getting hyped up for it it feels like we’re due for a US Open to be really really hard we had PGA Championship was great they always deliver the great leaderboards and the great finishes it’s exciting Bryson and Xander and havin um but it was 21 under that want it you had to make a million birdies I don’t think it’s going to be 21 under this week boys you don’t think so I sure don’t I don’t Frankie played it a couple weeks goo obviously different yardages and everything but a thousand yards shorter but is that probably what it was at least Dam right where do they play this thing from about 76 yeah so I think we played 65 dude we 1100 yard when we did the first ever fourman scramble against Kevin kizar out here I think we we came close it tipping it out and that is an impossible Golf Course certainly for guys like us and K admitted not the longest guy off the tea but he was like yeah this golf course is incredibly difficult my video comes out tomorrow and it’s we played it ball in hole from 6,500 yards in the media day just to see how I was going to play um we thought it was going to be like one of those N9 and 90 second videos we didn’t think it’d be a full YouTube video but you know we’re going to put all 18 holes up on the channel you you get to see the golf course you get to see how an amateur plays it but Josh so I remember I was feeling pretty good about myself walking off the 18th hole or I guess it was the seventh hole because we started on eight um and I was like yeah man I kind of like played well at this place and then I saw Joshua Kelly the ho inone trick shots guy he tipped it out behind where they’re going to be playing like every the the back of every single tea box and he’s like that’s the hardest golf course in the world he’s like that was not fun nothing about that was fun yeah yep said I couldn’t even make a birdie if my life depended on it yeah and it’s it’s interesting chorus in that there’s no real trouble in the traditional sense when you go play a Florida course Bay Hill or something or even uh Saw Grass like there’s water and it’s very clear trouble and you can make one bad swing and next thing you’re reh hitting basically it’s a two- shot penalty you still got to cover the water there’s none of that here there’s basically no water there’s one pound 16 that high rough [ __ ] they have around the bunkers is nasty oh it’s gnarly like the the little Wire Grass native grass that they’re calling it and it’s just so difficult to keep the ball in the Fairway because they’re not like bordered really it just kind of like it just kind of Blends into what the natural wasy Sandy areas are and then around the greens as we’ve talked about they’re all elevated it’s going to get a ton of coverage but if you hit an iron shot that’s a cut at the right center of the green like it probably won’t stay on the green it might land right in the middle but it’s cutting a little and it the second that it looks like it might not stay on the green it ain’t staying on the green and then it picks up speed it goes into a bunker or it goes into some deep runoff and it’s just really really difficult and that’s when you’re in the Fairway now when you miss the Fairway you’re trying to hit these greens from these weird bushy lies that you’ve got out here so I just think it’s going to it’s going to add up against people people it’s going to really piss people off uh guys were chipping a lot today we saw around 18th green tiger and spe were chipping around the 18th green ker famously like just puted from everywhere in 2014 and we were kind of asking and I was asking like Robbie Matt like what are they gonna do I guess tiger was hitting a lot of like six irons around the green today like just bumping it around and stuff so there’s G be a lot of different plays I saw Colin we’re out there I love Colin morow that guy’s great just like soon as I saw him he’s like what’s what’s going on with this house you got there am I going to be able to hit your house it’s like nah a little too far left and he’s are you guys going to be party and he goes party party he’s sneaky if Scotty sheffler didn’t exist he’d be on an incredible run it seems like every final group Augusta PGA Memorial every time Scotty’s up there colins’s in the group with him and Scotty just beats him he’s like the Clyde Drexler to Michael Jordan during this run I uh I go oh man I thought you hoop that one on 18 he goes s did I [ __ ] s did I what he dud I can’t believe he didn’t go in I know but you’re right he he sneaky like has seriously contended contended at both Majors thus far this year and then the memorial Jack tournament about as big an event that’s not a major as you can get he seriously contended was the only guy that really put any pressure on Scotty um he putted much better for a final round of course is playing impossible I think the final round scoring average is like over 75 yesterday at the memorial so uh it played very difficult but Colin is my nons Scotty pick this week and I actually bet him Thursday he was 20 to1 on draft Kings sports book # DK partner he was 20 to1 to win the US Open this week and now he’s gone down to 14 to1 with this finish but but here’s what it is though Scotty’s just gonna win it’s crazy to say we me and Alex Bush were looking at the odds on on DraftKings this morning I think Scotty’s plus 300 was that what it was 320 and like that’s still you should just take that so I posted another I I bet again Scotty to win last week he won and I posted the screenshot we’re trying to promote Afric partner and I just can’t ever get over the responses that are like oh real bold with 100 exclam or 100 like laughing faces I’m like but it was he was plus 360 okay and he just wins he won who wouldn’t bet somebody plus 360 imagine laughing at someone for taking plus money like what are you talking about and but it’s and it’s plus but it like in your actual head it’s like minus 150 he’s playing against aund something people that are unbelievably good of course he’s not going to win why would he just win oh then he wins right you can I I understand laughing at chalk maybe when it’s not a historic run but it’s like I’m laughing at people who even you right now being like I’m going to take color cow it’s like light that money on fire put it in this fire pit right now and light it on fire Scotty sheer is going to win the US Open walking around out there there are people are like who you like this week and I’m like I just look at him like I mean what do you want me to say there’s one gu winning every tournament and it’s not close no it’s not like I know that he didn’t play his best even down the stretch at at Memorial but is almost more to the point that he’s going to win even if he doesn’t play awesome he wins he also didn’t play his best like cuz that Golf Course is impossible impossible those last two shots into the green on 18 from SC uh Colin Scotty they hit pure shots maybe a little deep bounce right off like concrete into AG green that like that’s like a bowl there’s all kinds of iconic clips of tiger hitting into that bowl and it like rolls down towards that hole and there just bounc one birdie all day on Sunday oh my god dude like the Scotty thing you it’s it’s B him doesn’t pay you correct and that’s kind of the stretch that I’m that I’m on right now and again I’m not I want to take some I took more K because I think this is such a second shot golf course I think that you know and it’s hard not to just say cliches that you hear on TV and see all the time because people are like what’s going to win oh you got to putt the well this week we you know you got to drive the ball well this week sure all that stuff always matters but this is such like you got to just be able to keep your second shot on greens because chipping and putting from around these greens is so difficult and morawa such a sick iron player watched him the whole back nine today or three or four holes I was out there today um and he’s just flushing the golf ball man he was he flushed his like fivewood off the 13th T he was hitting sick irons cut straws he came over to me after he teed off on 13 he goes all right so you got any like members knowledge or like tips here and I was like just like don’t miss the greens and he’s like oh and then a couple seconds later he goes you know what that’s actually pretty good Vice out I like yeah no it really is listen he’s playing great it’s not going to matter I love Colin it’s just not going to matter this Scotty sheffler run is ridiculous and I know that we just talked about him people were going to pick him this week but I was thinking in ter like him fist pumping yesterday he made that putt was such a problem for the field like if that guy’s that hyped up about the memorial he’s never won a US Open before and on top of that like he’s never won a US Open like at Pinehurst which I think especially after now this is the anchor site by the way the tailor mid bags have a little anchor on them that’s very cool because is the anchor site which one of the coolest things I’ve seen so good with little touches like that oh insanely good the head covers I’ve got a bunch of them Messi but the fact is now the anchor sight that like after they have it this year and then 2029 and then like in the next 15 years Piner is going to continue to be even more and more elevated that like this is a big big deal this week this is the US Open at pioner like Scotty this is a career like this is huge for your career that he could potentially win the US Open at pinus this week um so again I know he’s a favorite and it seems like oh Scotty just wins another like he’s never won a US Open before right and it is true like even the week before leading up to Jack’s tournament he was like the trophy at that tournament is shaking Jack’s hand after you win like he cares about those things he’s not a robot where to a degree he is but he’s also not just like he’s emotional in terms of like I want to win these specific tournaments because they have meaning yeah a US Open at pin number two is is about as meaningful as you get in the US Open so every time Scotty says something like that or one of the guys from the tour say something like that it feels like a direct shot at someone from Liv oh you think so you just I mean it’s just they they they like to hammer home now the meaning around the tournaments on the PGA tour and you just know a guy like John Rah that just gets under his skin a little bit they’re all I think it’s all probably directed at Rah because they know because Rah has said it publicly that’s the thing about being an open book where he’s like I miss playing the waste management I miss playing I watch the Players like yeah man you’re you know he gets to shake Greg Norman’s hand after he wins you know Houston or something doesn’t hold exactly the same weight it is true like and I do feel that’s a great point for like when you’re an open book right that that is like part of the cross that you bear which is a bit of a bummer because like we want guys to be open books we want guys to talk we want guys you’re exposed but you are exposed to being like oh [ __ ] and that I agree like even if Scotty did mean it that way like John ROM read that and was like oh he’s telling me to [ __ ] off okay all right like a little bit even if Ram re it as not he’s taking it to me he’s like oh that would be cool to win that tournament and Shake Jackson I don’t have that opportunity right right ROM in particular those things got to hurt him and it’s unfortunate because we love John ROM I want all these guys playing the same tournaments I think we all feel that way there’s a squirrel squirrels are wild in Pinehurst yeah they’ve got the black squirrels it’s like the pigeons in New York you get used to humans and you just hang out with them over by the 10th the ninth T and the 10th T is where there’s a couple big famous black squirrels over there that just oh yeah and then right at the turn there at 9: right after you play the eth green they’ve got that little halfway Hut and you go in there you get something to you eat half of it you keep it on the side of your bag and then those squirrels are known for going in your bag and getting it see you later wow M MH look at that yeah look at that he doesn’t give a [ __ ] seagull take a picture that squir he get canceled on the internet yeah you know what I mean did you know that Blink 182 is coming to Arizona oh whoa Blink 182 where I did not know that Yep they’re come in Arizona you can get tickets um for a great prize we’re at an event right now I’m actually kind of pissed we’re talking about events our friend Nate baratti was at UBS Arena where the New York Islanders play last night and I didn’t check my game time app I was sitting home doing nothing nothing wore an is jacket he wore an Islanders jacket on stage I got a text from from my from my cousin Brian saying where are you sitting and I said where he goes at the NEP Y show at your home arena I said you got to be [ __ ] me and then all the pictures came out he’s wearing an Islanders jacket he probably I wouldn’t be surprised if on stage he said where’s Frankie belli how am I not at that show I I I did everything I could to get into his SNL show the fact that I missed that is going to haunt me for a long time don’t make the same mistake that I did go on game time check what’s coming into your town like you see the food Fighters going to Scottdale you got I mean sorry the blink is going to Scottdale you got to figure out who’s coming to town what games are in town because you don’t want to be sitting on your couch on a on a Sunday afternoon being like we have nothing to do today me and Hannah said that all day yesterday we got nothing to do today I could have went to a Nate baratti show and I heard he murdered I heard he murdered one of the best comedians in the world link12 $35 $20 off your first purchase that’s F re terms apply download the game time app today last minute tickets lowest price guaranteed you know what the South does right rocking chairs they’ve really cornered the market on rocking chairs I thought this meant that you were willing to [ __ ] another couple oh no that’s you put um what do you put outside pineapple it’s pineapple upside down pineapp I also thought they were something to do with an adarand chair these aren’t adarand chairs these aren’t these are rocking chairs but they do have on all the tailor made stuff one of their key things that they’ve gone with the Adera chairs at what’s the difference between ader chair doesn’t Rock oh it’s wider lower oh yeah yeah yeah you know say my dad you know famously bought Joy Ryan at aric chair for one of the anniversaries he said we’re going to grow olding these things romantic that he is your parents by well hopefully it wasn’t what I was just saying but um your parents just went to what were you saying about my parents well no I was saying that if you buy out round deck chairs it means that you’re looking at you know go swinging a little bit thought you had well he did but he was he was like trying to make sure he didn’t convolute the two in they don’t buy pineapples right okay good they’re not eating I saw that joy and Gary went to uh what’s going to be known as a National Monument soon 18th green at rain dance National are they putting a plaque in there they are they are going to put a plaque in there big plaque damn right I didn’t even know my parents were in Colorado they’re then there for like some graduation of of a cousin of mine that I don’t remember and they just sent me the picture out of nowhere and they were in the spot they said the people at rain dance National were so nice and we know that because we’ve been there and spent a bunch of time there nicest people in the world I’m already starting to get videos of people who are playing rain dance and you know hitting the shot on 18 which is very very cool and crazy I also want to say something about the plaque and I know widely people are excited about the plaque I did get a couple people being like relax it’s an 88 not a 63 those people also like forget what we are and what this company is bro I’m not I didn’t go to them and say I want a plaque put a plaque in there this is a very serious golf accomplishment which it is I’m on both sides of it those people are coming to me acting like they think I think this is the biggest accomplishment in golf history bro we are a Comedy Company and and people that get it get it rain dance gets it we get it there’s just some people who are like it’s crazy you’re putting a plaque there it’s not that big of a deal I know it’s not but I also know that it is that’s kind of where we live you understand what I’m saying like dude it’s a plaque for a guy who broke 90 this is it that’s funny this is what we’re doing we create these things like yeah we have created a movement where people pay attention to it people are like oh do I get a plaque for doing an under average job at work it’s like if you can get people to pay attention to it then yeah course I I like Bobby Bobby Fairways just got a hole in one congrats to him by the way they’re dropping Banners at Callaway golf like do you like I there’s part like this thing has gotten so big the internet and YouTube golf where it reaches people who are like I don’t understand why you’re doing that it’s part of the whole thing there’s not a single person who is in on it that goes and looks at that plaque in real life that won’t have a massive smile on their face yeah like they’re going to look at it be like right there’s no way they’re going to take it too seriously where they’re going to get mad at it exactly no I know I know I’m mostly people are in on it but there’s just a couple people who are like I don’t get it and I know I’m talking probably about 30 people when those those those um posts got like 40,000 likes but I just need people to like we need to come back down to the level where we started this brand as an alternative golf brand and we don’t take ourselves too seriously and it’s just a funny thing that I’m getting a plaque at a place where I broke 90 it’s so much better than someone getting a plaque for shooting a genuinely like good score who cares I know like that just doesn’t matter that much it’s so much fun if you’re just like along for the ride like when like you said just do it then if people are getting mad go do it get get the movement behind you you sound like an [ __ ] when you I’m talking about myself here you sound like an [ __ ] where you’re like yeah man people are like oh these guys play shitty Golf and they get paid and they have the best equipment the best teachers I’ll just do that and it’s like okay me no one’s stopping you I know and it’s you sound like an [ __ ] when you say that but like it’s just like we’re just doing it man this is our jobs also right these are our jobs mhm we have to do this correct we’re required to do this I had a guy a couple months ago be like I was at a bar or whatever and we were talking and he’s like yeah I could do what you guys do so easily like I I could get a job bar so I’d be great and I like you can’t answer that but I remember wanting to just be like why the [ __ ] don’t you then right you know I didn’t get some [ __ ] at this point it feels like a lottery ticket but I went in for a job application just like everybody else I went in for an interview why didn’t you you could have been in front of me in line right I didn’t you know Dave didn’t just like pick me out of a pizzeria I had to go do it right I hate so like go do it then I don’t know don’t get mad at me butm like I like right I I I’m not Dave’s cousin I’m not Dave’s nephew right you’re not Dave’s nephew you’re not Dave’s nephew sure not it’s been a long time I’ve been here over 10 years you guys are coming up on a decade to in a couple years it’s like this [ __ ] and again I’m speaking to mostly I’ve gotten 99.9% positive you let the haters know right now Trent no it’s I just sometimes I’m like it’s not that serious the plaque is not that serious the 88 is a great accomplishment I’m proud of it but it’s also not that serious you think it’s serious then you are not in on it right which is a bummer because it’s fun to be in on it it’s so much more fun good one guy you want to know how dumb the internet is one guy because we posted a clip I think like maybe it was like yesterday or someone resurfaced a clip maybe it was like this day in Barcelo sports or whatever and someone responded to me being like you guys really put this out the same week that Bob got a hole in one and I was going to say it’s actually the opposite we put it out a week ago and the guy was mad about it that’s how dumb the [ __ ] internet is it’s like actually you have that wrong you have it completely opposite what are you talking about now I got to [ __ ] respond to you like that’s what the internet has come to where that guy and he’s starting to get a couple likes like look classic foreplay stealing the thunder it’s like what are you talking about this thing came out of month ago essentially yeah [ __ ] wrong with you we’re just putting out an extra clip I do it is interesting to watch like the internet has gotten to a different place from when we put out breaking 100 when I did it to Breaking 90 it’s just the the vitriol is there yeah it’s very strange I got uh I heard quite a few like hey tell Trent way to go out there today oh yeah I mean people were pumped thank you to I’ve been getting stopped all the time it’s been very very very nice and again 99.9% has been positive so it’s been it’s been awesome and also just way to go thank you way to go thank you very much you [ __ ] did it you went out there you hit the shots it was a windy day everybody at the next day at the classic was like dude it was so windy yesterday I feel bad for Trent trying it out there today like none of those people at the classic thought you did it right and I was like yeah no I think he did it from I when I’m understanding he did it no I feel really great about it I really do uh you know somebody I’m really excited to watch play golf this week Tiger Woods Bryson to Shambo whoa yeah me too actually I’m excited to watch Bryson to Shambo this week this is the new Bryson thing where it’s like every major we get to see him the last spot we saw him was rolling in that putt throwing his arm was in the air in the 72 hole at Valhalla he was all smiles everybody’s like he’s back and I know they had the live event whatever I think this last week I didn’t get to see any of him there I’m excited to watch him play this golf course as again someone who I spend so much time here I know this course inside out watching that absolute freak in the best way possible take his driver out and just send it all over this place is going to be so much fun I cannot wait and he historically with like courses where you need to be more of an artist which I think people would say like with Donald Ross and the old school you got to be creative and hit these little shots into the greens and it’s similar to P or to Augusta and that like he kind of struggled at Augusta for years and years and then kind of started to figure it out it’s like the scientist versus the artist all that to see him out here and navigate in this place I can’t [ __ ] wait I’m very excited to watch Bryson yeah he’s just on the he’s on the major championship tour for people who don’t watch live regularly which seems like a lot of people you get Bryson four times a year he was great at the Masters he was carrying one of those I don’t even know what you call those things directional and then he was great obviously to PGA and yeah I I’m excited to watch him he’s must see TV when he gets to play in the big fields I can’t wait to watch him man I’m pumped uh and then Mr Woods Tiger Woods been out here A bunch he was out here last night uh walking out there it was Joey and because he played with Klay so Joey was out there was a very comfortable group Charlie Woods is out of school now because at summer break so he’s been all over the place with tiger basically like assisting him and caddying out here walking around this this place um this is a about as good of a setup course-wise at this point Tiger’s career with his leg that we’re going to get it’s a flat walk we talked about that at the beginning it’s going to be hot as [ __ ] it is hot as [ __ ] it’s going to be like this the entire week it’s going to be like 90 degrees in humid which if you don’t love that temperature it’s not my favorite temperature in the world for Tiger Woods and his back and his leg and his half being you know the Terminator situation that’s a great thing oh yeah I saw pictures tailor made was putting out pictures of him walking around he was so sweaty and it got me pumped seeing him just knowing that his body definitely feels better out here as opposed to all these other places where it gets cold in the morning blah blah blah whatever yeah I’m not going to say he’s got a shot but if there if he’s ever got a shot flat Golf Course Hot and humid for the B we’ll see what happens you got to think your way around this place and and and I mean that in the sense of like it felt like it Valhalla is not one of those courses you got to do a ton of kind of pull out driver you hit it as far as you can and you try to take an iron right at the flag stick and you do that 18 times a day yeah whereas this is again is a little bit more you got to think even this third hole right here in front of us they’re going to move that tea up I think probably Saturday morning or so to 300 yards people are going to be able to take rips at this green from 300 yards uh the 13th hole I watched minw Lee today hit like a two iron or something and then everybody teed off for their game and then he was like one second then he ripped driver up near the green awes uh and went for it which was [ __ ] awesome to watch and see so you’re going to have some options out there but but yeah I think tiger here he’s finished second and third I believe or he finished third I think and two or 1999 yeah Payne Stewart Phil Mickelson year he was right there he finished I think Payne ended up winning at one under Phil was like even and tiger was like one over something like that and then when Michael Campbell won in 2005 uh tiger was I believe tied for second or solo second that year so he’s played well here before 2014 I don’t even know if he was playing golf still um Phil what a maybe he turns back the clock here one more time wrote him down on my list he’s he’s an icon around here big time oh my God the whole thing when pay almost kissed him on the 7c hole after he made it talking about like having a child as a gift he had he had the pager the whole week this was where Phil had the pager yep and if the Pedro went off he was going to leave yeah um so yeah Phil I mean who who the hell knows out here but um but yeah uh I’m Juiced up I’m fired up for this entire week the weather like we said kind of looks great and and um it’s US Open week I got a question for you guys that’s unrelated sure well real quick before that that third hole when we played it Brendan it the fact that bringing up to 300 yards is insane because that’s about where we played it from and I remember Logan or CAD was like we have to just like rip a hybrid up here and I was like all right we do and I end up in a bunker and then you go up there and you realize you could just rip a driver or you could just hit like a seven iron so there’s going to be so many of those decisions based on where they put these tea boxes yep where I mean if you’re a professional if you’re Tiger Woods you have your whole bag at your disposal on that t box quite literally you could hit a pitching wedge or you can hit a driver yes and we watched like we were watching a lot of guys hit irons on on the third hole when they move when the t’s all the way back it almost it almost makes the hole boring it’s just an auto just like you hit it like 280 right down the middle and even less like they’ll probably hit at 240 to 250 short of these bunkers that you hit your hybrid into and they’ll hit wedges in all of them and they all just play it the same way which is not that sweet versus and un fortunately because 156 players I believe it is and US Open is hard so it’s slow as [ __ ] so they can’t really move the tea up until the weekend when that’ll be a Sunday te thing so it could be Saturday and Sund that be crazy which be [ __ ] awesome and I went back early in the day so guys can start to take risks if you’re four or five Strokes back you’re like I’m going to [ __ ] make an eagle on this hole and there was a there was a great shot from that USGA put out last week from 2014 when Martin kimer drove the green and landed it he has like he had like 20 ft or something I don’t think he made it but he had like a legitimate Eagle putt on that hole which is so cool and he landed it like 10 yard short with a little cut like right at it and it like skipped up there uh so that holds F and that’s one that like as you know like if you miss long there yeah you’re like out of the tournament yeah it is [ __ ] brutal when you go long and then if you end up in those bunkers it’s a really hard like Fairway bunker shot you have a 70 yard bunker shot up to a turtle back green everything’s dead behind it yep and then we were watching man on 13 like the 13th hole today is kind of a tricky it’s another one that’s short that if you remember when we played kiz kiz drove the green because they moved the tea up for that one oh yeah when we played against it was like 280 or 290 or something they they also like one day if they on the weekend if they don’t move it up on the three they’ll probably move it up on 13 which would be cool by the way I was getting away yesterday we’re hearing this drone about us got drones I was just flying my drone on the golf course yesterday yeah that’s wild what uhhuh whoa I mean there are guys putting on six and I just had my drone above them like way above them I was trying not to I was like oh my God this is practice round but I was trying to get sweet pictures of the house with Like Us open stands up I mean I flew the thing all the way up by 17 USG is going to kick your door was insane I was like drones everywhere above shouldn’t allow me to do this wow that’s pretty wild uh I know but 13 is another really cool one where they could drive the green but that one’s also you’ll see guys it’s a bit of a weird t- shop because if you go a little bit too far left it looks fine but you run out of room and then guys will have to hit wedges up like out of the sandy wasy stuff to this green that if you miss a yard short it rolls 50 yards down right and you’ve got this pitch like up the hill that’s that’s treacherous um 16 that’s usually a par five for us where you hit it over the pond and it’s like slight dog leg left off the tea and then you hit down to like this really cool almost like Cathedral like green that’s surrounded by a bunch of Tall Pines is a the whole where it goes straight up and when you’re on the the green you’re looking back and it’s like you just walked up it’s probably the highest is it 13 that is it okay so they’re going to make that kind of driveable then yeah I think they will one day and that’s kind of got the shared waste area in between you go right back down the other way yeah yep that’s like that’ll probably be probably be the hardest walk for Tiger right going up that up that hill yep it’s not even that bad no no and then going down the next one on 14 which is a cool part four yeah uh so yeah I think six which is right out here on the other side of three here six historically plays as the hardest hole it’s like a 240 yard par three you probably played it from like 200 or 210 if that and like now imagine that’s 50 yards longer yeah that’s insane and there’s like nowhere to hit it on that hole it’s a really tight Gap bunker on the left bunker on the right are both like bad bad spots uh especially the bunker on the right because it just all runs away from you um but yeah man it’s tough I I asked Joey today I was like what do you think of this place and he’s like it’s good it’s really hard yeah yep it’s exactly right can’t wait to see Joey talk a little hockey he’s great he was fired up he’s he’s rooting for the Oilers I’m sure he is he’s not on those pathetic [ __ ] Rangers man every year they just give me a chance cuz we saw the PJ was still ongo oh yeah I said oh your boys might be slipping it’s you don’t say hi to me you just talk about my [Music] boys give Dad the gift of golf this Father’s Day with the rap SoDo or so and throughout it I I kept thinking that they didn’t do enough I mean he kind of he is kind of a prick he just comes off like throughout the whole and this is post this is a post this is relativ recently this is relatively recently that they did this documentary and he’s a big part of it and but also you know they’re very raw and real they get a lot of people in there that he screwed over that they interview they like [ __ ] that guy he’s if he’s doing this he’s just trying to reab His Image whatever so you get a little bit of everything but it got me thinking how like how do we feel in general about peeds especially in a situation like that and what I was going to say is what I don’t think they did enough Justice to was that yes he did it he was lying about about it he like sued other people and ruined other people’s lives in an effort to cover it up which makes him a bad person but every single person was doing it yeah so he was still the best racer of all the people that were doing it because everyone was doing it I see what you’re saying you’re saying you still got to be the best if it’s an if it’s a Level Playing Field regardless PDS or not if everybody’s on PDS and you’re the best guy on PDS you’re still the best guy you’re the best guy and there’s a whole at the beginning bit he talks about when he first comes out and like he and they and all the stats sort of it seems like back this up his first couple years out on like the tour the cycling tour where they’re just riding bikes around he’s like he was for years and years when they’re all the same age get he was the best guy and then they get out there and the guys they’re doing the Peds and the doping I guess is what it was the doping were like just beating him and he’s like I was training as well as I could possibly train I was performing as well as I could possibly reform and I was just getting beat dramatically and he’s like and it drove me nuts to the point where eventually we just had to start doing it and he’s like once we started doing it then I was better than everyone yeah I think it’s there’s it’s two different questions there’s one where that we’re answering where it’s if you’re the best you’re the best especially if everybody’s doing the same thing but then I think where it gets a little dicey is the guys on The Fringe that aren’t doing it but I because then you’re just motiv then everybody has to do it and I don’t know that’s probably a negative right I definitely don’t want that right he also like the year that he got like testicular cancer and like nearly died should have died he’s like that was also the same year that I started taking this stuff right so some bad stuff what is it EPO is that what it is yeah exactly um and they’re like in the thing they interview him they’re like do you think like because you you’re taking this stuff that that led to you getting cancer and he’s like I don’t know but I’m I have not ruled out the fact that like that’s the one year that I started taking it and I got tested cancer and almost died that year yeah so it’s you’re talking about bad stuff never know where I fall with that because you could talk about baseball and it’s like a lot of the guys weren’t taking it and a handful of the guys were taking it and I’ve always been on the side where it’s like you had to hit the you still have to hit the baseball you know what I mean which is really hard to do it’s so hard to do the stat the stats back it up that we’ll never see offense like that again so it clearly did something I don’t know what it does cuz if I took steroids to just drive to Subway and come back and like go to the pizzer I would love that a Ser I don’t think it would do anything for me like I still think about how sick an athlete has to be or if you inject this like superum stuff into your body you become even better like you have to already be an unbelievable athlete well that’s the thing with Barry Bonds where it’s like Barry Bonds was already the best it’s such an interesting like almost experiment I hate to use that word but you took the best guy and gave him all the stuff and what happened every record happened right so I know what you mean you there has to be a base level like I couldn’t start taking um what you know the cream the clear whatever bonds them were taking I’m not going to get an MLB contract in a year I guess like I wish I was like in that that world or like you were just a fly on the wall to see how many guys would take it if it was if it was accessible cuz it’s still a risk to your body and like when do you draw the line on all the other things these guys do to their bodies to become the top the top of their sport look at what wrestlers do with cutting weight and stuff least healthy thing you can do for your body there a guy in the UFC a couple weeks ago who passed out on the scale cuz he comes out there and there’s a uh the Conor documentary I think it’s called notorious one something like that bro they won’t even show The Cutting weight parts of it cuz it’s so detrimental it’s horrific for you so bad you’re right like it’s the same [ __ ] what well it’s like you watch all these guys that they do all these crazy preparations to get cryofreezing aligning your eyes doing all this crazy [ __ ] and then this guy decided to do this where it made his muscles bigger and stronger and his his hand eye coordination better I don’t know these guys get paid millions of dollars I’m not advocating for steroids but I can see why in that field you’d be like I want to be better and there’s this substance that makes me better I’m going to try that and even like the baseball one is even a little different than I guess what was I was justifying at my mind with the doping thing because baseball it is sort of devastate that you’re like crushing these records from the 60s and 70s yeah that’s what sucks by guys that are doing it versus guys that weren’t doing it like it’s F whereas like the racing what I what I was trying to Grapple with is like everyone in the race is doing it right so it’s like if you’re not doing it you’re at disadvantage instantly you have no chance to win or finish in the top 50% cuz you’re just not doing it so then you do it and you’re like oh and they gave a simple stat of like they’re like they say that like at at most it could be like a 10% difference and they’re like well the torto France is a 100 hour race and like the difference between first and last is like two hours or something yeah and they’re like that’s 2% so if you’re 10% better you’re blowing out the field right away so everyone’s doing it like and so I guess yeah that’s what I was thinking where I was like they weren’t I just didn’t think they were giving enough to where it wasn’t like Lance Armstrong was like he was told this secret on the side and was like I’m going to do this and Crush everyone and they did it he did it and the guys he was crushing you w seven out of eight or whatever it was we’re also doing the same thing he just was better than they were yeah I think I I’m with you on that give them those [ __ ] titles back give title you feeling good in the shade over there he also um what what what a Lance Armstrong ra like hundreds of million dollars for cancer it’s like the Live Strong thing what you guys dealing with this heat right now on your on your face yeah man I just think like we always do this to ourselves we have a huge house this is where Donald Ross [ __ ] lived huge house we can go anywhere back’s great there’s shade there’s every I’ll you just point to a place where there’s no shade there shade over there I’m looking down there there’s so much sun right there there shade there’s shade there’s quite literally shade on the other side we’re in it for the aesthetic oh we’re working hard man a window these beautiful flowers okay hey that guy you saw at the bar could never sit out here and do this podcast right the guy at the bars yeah exactly no chance dude no chance no out here the Liv strong thing was nuts he like he like saved so many people’s lives with the Liv strong I’ve got a buddy named Mike that has had a Liv strong bracelet on for no joke 13 years has never I think he it broke once so he’s had two Liv strong bracelets still wearing it now still wears it to this day ironically or not not he just can’t take it off he it’s like it’s become a part of him cuz there was a time where obviously it was a very serious thing at the beginning it’s like I got to Live Strong on supporting that Lance Armstrong was cool and then once the downfall happened people would wear them ironically dude he oh I didn’t know that yeah never seen in my adult life I’ve never seen Mike not have a yellow Liv strong bracelet on right cuz I bet people look at that now and they’re like that guy’s making a joke no he’s like no I have to have and and he’s kept it so good he showers with the but like you know when I used to wear one when I was in like Middle School whenever it was when it was hot in the streets and if you did too much with it it would start to break like it start to deteriorate get thinner it would wear out the color would change bro his neon yellow M Mike’s not showering enough I know yeah might be saying something about him Live Strong yeah they do a whole part about that it’s nuts it’s like emotional in there you’re like God this guy um yeah I’m not saying I’m necessarily team Lance I just I’m not team steroids but I just I see why someone would go down I like I didn’t think he did it as like a [ __ ] you I’m going to I’m going to try to cheat everyone and beat he did it I felt like more of like I feel like I have to everyone I got to level the playing field yeah and then he was just better than everybody else also a really good appearance in DodgeBall really good it’s also a part of you that just thinks like if you’re willing to like essentially die for a sports record I mean I don’t know you kind of deserve it no you don’t but you’re not hurting anybody else except for like a number on a page you’re just hurting yourself the issue was Lance was hurting other people him yeah I keep thinking about the baseball one yeah yeah yeah yeah no you know you’re right you’re right Barry Bonds is putting something in his body that’s only deteriorating his health and his longevity of life to try and pursue this like legendary status of sports sets a bad precedent it does set a bad precedent and he is harming other people in terms of like their earning value and their like Legacy Val it hurts everything I’m talking on paper yes I’m talking strictly like per like your like your body hurts you no but then what I’m saying is guys are like now I got to do that to compete if you want to be the best sure you want to make millions of dollars takes but it doesn’t have to that’s what they thought it took I’m putting myself in there kind of is what it took cuz they what it took you know what is Sammy doing it he’s got 50 home runs I might have to like you just never know Sammy definitely did it D when you look at those clips of Mark Maguire St Louis guy we were going nuts for Mark McGuire at the time you just didn’t even think anything of it when you look back like a cartoon character that was a toothpick they were flinging these things he up but and and I I like to flipflop a lot and now you look at a guy like Aaron judge that can hit like yes yesterday he hit a 442 ft home run he has 25 home runs already in this early season that’s that you do want to preserve that there’s freaks out there that can do it naturally well that’s why everybody loves griffy right oh gri as far as we know he’s 600 home runs 660 maybe he almost 700 I’d have to look you what else I watched recently Frankie you’ll love is the captain Oh yeah D good wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be well as a guy like me who didn’t like you have the relationship with all of that I didn’t know all of that then it was really good because all did was just recount all of his great moments but they didn’t show you anything 630 6:30 630 home runs they didn’t show you any of the behind the scenes stuff I want them to see yeah like it wasn’t the Jordan documentary where it was like him in his hotel room like hiding from the paparazzi and going out to dinner and like arguing with like A-Rod like they just interviewed him and A-Rod and they talked about it I wanted to see the footage I know there’s footage out there there had to have been a camera room we never got to see behind the scenes footage of that 97 to 2000 Yankees ever the 98 99 2000 cocky just like yeah them like going out to the town yeah going out with like Justin Timber Lake I uh I guess just for me like I got to live it kind of for the first time it was a sick dude oh my God that guy’s life is a joke his last home game he hits a walkoff home like what are you talking about literally a fantasy like what is actually like I’m almost with you I need to find out what’s wrong with his life something [ __ ] up we were waiting for 3,000 put the marins waai for 3,000 hit so much so that I went to Beth pagee and I was on the 11th hole I was like he’s not gonna get it today he needs three hits and he hits a home run off David Price as a 3,000th hit I missed it and I lied about it for five years MH on here I think he lived the life of like an individual sport athlete in a team sport that it should not happen that way on a baseball team you can’t you shouldn’t have that type of says I mean you guys if you were Yankees fans it would drive you crazy how much people say he’s overrated his defensive stats it’s like the guy was a [ __ ] winner man that’s really what it comes I don’t know what else to he just wins there’s a reason why he was a a unanimous was he unanimous or one guy guy one [ __ ] those old [ __ ] those old crusty baseball shord they right they they take they like sa was unanimous right I think we eventually got there yeah but the Jeter was before uh they do it is like he makes such a good point where he’s like do we all play baseball to like see who could get the most individual stats or do we all play to win it’s like we’re all the whole goal is to win and we’re we win he’s like I don’t A-Rod over in [ __ ] SE like whatever they’re doing there is great but like we’re win we’re winning here the this the stuff for Jeter that’s like you can’t is it the intangibles is that the word I’m looking for where his work ethic was pushing forward the rest of his teammates to a point where they were the most well-oiled machine you could possibly even imagine like you had Derek Jeter is your captain the kid was like 24 years old going out there and working his [ __ ] bag off like taking pitches fouling off pitches he’s your lead off hitter he’s batting second he’s short stop of the New York Yankees never taking a day off he wanted he’s a Yankee fan growing up like that’s the stuff that made them the team the core and that stuff’s not going to show up on a Hall of Fame stat sheet no I also like like 3300 hits I mean how how many [ __ ] hits that guy it’s a nuts that A-Rod came to New York at that time I know and Jeter thought he was a [ __ ] for it yeah literally left he he goes I would never ever leave shortstop for someone else he he looked he looked down on A-Rod as like one of his like inferior teammates for doing that like you left and a-rod’s you know just this goofball being like I’m here I’m ready to win a World Series win and Jeter’s like I don’t respect you one last documentary recommend recommendation before we throw it to Tommy cuz I know we’d been going for a while uh unfortunately Bill Walton passed recently and they did a 30 for30 on him called the luckiest guy in the world so good I watch I watched it he’s what an incredible life I got to watch that one you have to so if anybody hasn’t watched that the luckiest guy in the world ESPN incredible what a beloved guy you got to watch documentary just to see how beloved all the stuff when he passed was just so positive yeah he was yeah it motivated me to watch documentary incredible all right I got to watch that um yeah all right US Open week we’ll see uh hopefully we’ll probably see people out at Pinehurst through throughout the week I’m here until Monday so I’ll be here uh just this entire week family coming in we’ll be out on the course Tuesday Wednesday um Tommy Fleetwood will be on the course hopefully all weekend playing golf at a very high level if you see me out there don’t look at my pimple on my nose I haven’t really see this why don’t you pop that thing I just I don’t pop pimples I’m I’m a little too afraid of does that even mean I don’t know I don’t pop I don’t thank you um my first question for you is a very important question you are quite familiar with the fit of bar stool sports merchandise are you a medium or large um a medium but they do come out a little small right you should we get them the medium we obviously brought you some more oh no way you looked right at those before we started recording what is it is it a hoodie yeah it’s a hoodie what are the options medium or large large is it like do I play golf in it or is it like I don’t think you play golf in it large large large large it’s more of like a lifestyle I like yeah oversized oversized for me okay so good now we got that out of the way oh my God thank you so much um so I was looking at your Wikipedia this Comon man country club it’s cool yeah love that so I was looking at your wikkipedia page which is kind of where I start to prep for these interviews and uh your first major was the 2014 British Open I believe so that was right after the 2014 open at Pinehurst yeah so you did not play in that never played have you been to Pinehurst never and um being a golf fan like it’s one of the places that I’ve always wanted to go so never found the time to go with the buddies or just like on a you know Charlotte no do you know what it’s like I yeah I don’t go on I might have been on maybe one golfing trip you know in my life uh it’s it’s just not one of those things that we ever get a chance to do but it um yeah I mean it’s especially the place I don’t I actually don’t know loads about it but I know enough about it and it seems like the perfect place to go if you were going to go on a golfing trip but never been there um I remember the last US Open pay Stewart um and just you know it’s pinest isn’t it pinest number two yeah there’s been a few since then Michael Campbell won there cell be Tiger Woods all I mean tiger was like in the mix was that a pinest that was at pinest I didn’t know that I’m not Martin ker with his shiny arms K the shiniest arms that week it was hot and he was wearing like spray screen he he puts a bit he puts a bit of prep into those shiny arms he shines them up before he goes out he’s nice and oiled up it’s a good look he didn’t chip all week so he puted everything off the green yeah amazing um they say it’s a little bit different this time right it was Grainer I think last time but they say it’s a little bit kind of maybe around the greens but um it seems like a good strategy if it if uh what did he win by about 20 he won yeah he won by eight it was kind of a dead week I remember Ricky was like in the all orange it was kind of the height of Ricky and everyone was hoping that kimer would would fall apart and it just never happened he’s got two major yeah was a killer he’s had a very interesting career and he’s not he’s not that old no he must be in his 30s still he’s definitely in his 30s playing on live but he got the number one in the world he won the Players name a big tournament is Gen is generally like been up there or wi it did he win Wentworth has he won Wentworth that’s a great question uh he was he was either up there or he won yeah definitely it’s kind of what he does um when you you go to a golf course like that for the first time how do you go about prepping well you know now with YouTube there’s like gazillion flyovers all this stuff will you just kind of wait till you see it in person um I do quite enjoy watching some of the YouTube stuff um you’re never going to um you’re never going to get worse by watching any of that stuff and it is cool it is cool to see the courses um and then when you get there I think you know the the courses are very different I think it’s one of the most underrated things is how different the um the way that the golf courses play you know to sort of everyday life when we get to it especially a US Open um but yeah just it’s if you can be spending as much time on the golf course as possible at a major in your preparation um that’s the ideal scenario you want your game to be in pretty good shape um and get to another golf course and you don’t want I think particularly a major you don’t want to get out there and feel like there’s certain aspects that you’re not sure about when you’re playing like what is it like if I H it over there or you know how does this put play so the more time you can spend on the golf course the better however practice rounds get pretty slow yeah they do especially in the US Open those players bunch of amateurs in the mix do you guys look at those you guys look at those amateurs with disdain loser loser am mites um you have two 63s in the final round of the US Open one on a real golf course one on a pitch and Putt um just how much better was the shinok 63 I’ve I’ve just this is a long running joke where and I’m from Los Angeles I was so excited for for the M for the LACC Us open and then I just like couldn’t it was a complete dud in my opinion do you not like it I just I no I didn’t I mean I the golf course is good it’s a great golf course but the way they set it up with the with the behind the first T it was like all Rolex so there was no like atmosphere there were no fans on certain corners of the golf course it was just quiet and dull but um yeah I mean was those those those two rounds I feel like you know I don’t know if anyone else has shot 63 twice in the final round of the US Open what is it about Sundays at the US Open it’s a nice Habit to Wi if I can keep it but I’ve had some bad ones as well um yeah the shinok one was uh particularly special and I think um I’ll always remember that especially when I felt like you’re starting the day a long way back um had a lot of belief at the time I was playing very well and I do think the last four five six holes there I felt like I could win the US Open um and it was still at a pretty early early stage of my career but I think that for me was um that was that was that was like a special time on the golf course and you know I I couldn’t I made a stupid bogey on nine I always remember that but like for the b nine especially the last who couldn’t really do anything wrong always felt like had a chance for birdie two perfect shots on 18 oh filthy go shot that six s um and yeah and and then missed the put low but yeah that was that was cool uh but I did enjoy the one at um Lac I three puted the first and I missed a five footer on the last is that right that and then everything in between was was good it’s the most Classic golf golfer mentality of all time you 63 damn disppointed um it’s been an interesting year for you you’ve had a you know finno who’s who’s been your caddy for so long hasn’t been here um you had you’ve had Adrian on the bag a couple times I’m going through cish from Taylor Made You might want to try Bob McIntyre’s dad I heard he’s pretty good at it oh way yeah great story we’ll get to that in a bit um you had grey Moore at Augusta unbelievable now you have clarky I think is his name has it been unsettling at all for your golf game to have that many different guys um it’s been different I think um yeah of course there’s an element of uh I guess CU it you know it wasn’t at a choice um it wasn’t like wasn’t like you guys were having a break exactly it wasn’t like things haven’t been working and things have not been going well and I needed that you know Fresh Start If you like or needed something new so um so yeah it’s it is that little bit unsettling I think um I’ve had the same person um by my side for the last eight years if you say and literally every situation I’ve been on a golf course I’ve had the same I’ve had the same person with me both both good and bad so when it’s yeah so when it has to change like it’s a little bit on settling having said that Adrian’s one of my you know closest people out here well closest friends in life um gray phenomenal known him for a long time and I you know felt so comfortable with him at Augusta and I think the thing with gray was that I just felt no matter what golf shot I hit wherever it went he was going to know what to do next and that was like that was great and then clarky I’ve known for a long time and he’s you know a great caddy so I’ve been lucky with the people that have sort of stood in if you like and and followed up and um but yeah it’s been been a different year um still feel like I’m playing some very very good stuff and the results have been fine just not always what you’re looking for yeah you’re 30th in the FedEx though you know you’re not it’s not like it’s not like you’re going to lose your card you’re doing okay um with gray was it was it kind of fun I don’t know if you handed him the check or you wired it over but like did that feel kind of good yeah it was it was yeah one of them very like satisfying things in life and again he makes like no big deal out of anything thanks Tommy it was just like yeah just um and um yeah it was it was it was it was cool um he was great all week and I think I actually you know yeah like the paying him was was obviously great and you know what a beautiful thing that is but um walking up the last on Sunday being on the last screen like that that those was are Priceless things and for somebody that you’re close to he I I said to him so we’re playing the practice round on Monday and I’ve known him for a long time and but still there’s still like so many things when you’re out on a golf course with someone you talk a lot how many times do you think you’d been to Augusta not like how many times have you had him as your caddy um probably uh maybe not quite double figures okay um and um but anyway when you’re with you know I’m all of a sudden with him so much and it’s actually when you’re actually playing austa when it’s not I’ve only done that two or three times when you’re playing Augusta when it’s not the tournament you have to actually get around pretty quick like they you know you’re not just wandering around and strolling around you have to get around and um uh anyway so we’re talking and I thought I’ve never asked it I was like what was your you know first Masters he sits there and he thinks about it and he he’s lived in August his whole life and he said it was either 61 or 62 right so he’s been going to the Masters um since then and I was not expecting that number me neither and Palmer and then um yeah it was and um he went before Arnold Palmer made it big so he said said before Arnold Palmer you know came along and and all of a sudden golf got huge he said if you lived in the town it was very easy to go to the Masters anybody could go so he knew it before then and um so then walking up the Fairway on Sunday obviously my best finish in the Masters he you know an amazing experience with him after a lifetime of going I think that was uh you know much cooler in a way that was an awesome story and and I want to thank you because we got a lot of views out of that story um how is finno doing he’s good he’s uh he’s chipping and putting it home I saw a video or a post where he’s um he was like cading for his his daughters are that scar he has is crazy yeah Scar’s pretty big right I feel like he needed to look tougher needed to look harder yeah you’re right cuz he was definitely not an intimidating guy at all when he asked me if I was on crack at the US Open were you no no that was the week before yeah um but no I mean he’s he’s on the menend he’s he’s doing really really well I think he’s still awaiting um his first scan where they look at like the scar issue from where they’ve you know had to crack his sternum open and everything and that’s healing and then check his heart but he’s doing really well he’s been walking every day for for a while now uh he’s chipping and putting I think he’s he’s obviously not the most patient character in the world so he’s probably getting bored at home but I am speaking to him uh you know pretty much every day so so that’s great and I’m sure he you know he’s just desperate to get out but he’s he’s doing really well I love that you said he’s the chip it’s such a golfer like comeback it’s like he’s in the chipping and putting stage I I got a I got a voice note uh the other day I was like I’m sure I was going to like warm up or something and it was uh he was asking me why he was asking me something about chipping anyway something like why would he be chipping well one-handed but when he puts two ones on he’s struggling with his strike so we had a little had a we had a little talk about it and then I went and warmed up end of the day we’re all just golfers trying to get better exactly it never leaves you what are you getting pops for Father’s Day anybody know yet oh boy it’s a it’s it’s tough because there’s there’s certain things that dad’s like but you got to get the right things did you know that G4 is dropping a collection especially for him that’s one of them shoes are a huge huge purchase for Father’s Day their Father’s Day capsule they’ve got it’s called a capsule you guys ever do like a Time Caps or anything like that yeah yeah time did one MC Elementary School I wonder where that thing is probably about time you guys just forgot to dig it up everybody just moved on it’s underneath pain Stewart statue H where is that thing wonder what I wrote in that thing what do you think you wrote I have no idea I have no idea I can’t wait to I can’t wait to open this in my flying car did the Highlanders win the cup oh that was me probably true father capsule has everything you could ever want uh for life on or off the golf course whether he traditional Moder just wants something fun and new for his golf look G4 has got it there’s also everyone’s favorite Classic golf shoe the gallivanter now available in spikeless and soft Spike that’s true I got a pair of the uh the soft Spike ones so you got spikeless and soft Spike gallivanter options because G4 accommodates pretty much everybody especially fam go to that’s g4.0 for 10% off your first order g4.1 per off your first order speaking of caddies a lot of caddy talk on this podcast but you’ve doing a lot of interesting stuff with Cades uh you cadd for your stepson in yeah thank you actually for uh your little um post about that that was really cool it was almost Oscar’s favorite thing about the whole experience you know when you want to say thank you you can just you know text me and say thank you to yourself yeah but it’s not the same is it it’s not the same you’re right in person is really different no but I mean obviously it’s you know it’s no secret your wife your wife is older than you are you guys have one child together what is your relationship like with Oscar because he’s you know he’s obviously a great golfer he’s 18 years old is it kind of more like an uncle thing what is the relationship like uh no I I think we’re um the whole family we’re unbelievably close so there’s there’s Oscar and mo the two old ones and then there’s Frankie obviously um you you know I I honestly I it’s funny because when anybody asks so people that don’t know you they’ll always say you know do you have kids you do you have kids and pretty much all the time I’ll say yeah three kids uh and they go how old are they 17 16 and six and then you get the you get the look so then I’m like uh cuz obviously you know I’m not I’m not that old but um so then I have to explain while the first two step kids uh which honestly I I I don’t really I never really think of them as step kids I’ve been been around a long time now um particularly Mo I think I’ve been um you know I guess parental figure too since he was five so that’s you know he was younger than Frankie and that’s pretty young so uh but we do I’m unbelievably lucky with the uh with the relationship that we have we’re so close um when the five of us are together that’s always our like safe place and we always you know hope we always keep that in a way but it was great and I did say I said to him when he got in the when he got into the event in the CH into the challenge toour event I said I’ll ask you now but I’m never going to feel bad if you don’t want me to cuz I understand that it’ll bring I’m pretty sure that it’ll bring probably a little bit more exposure and a bit more pressure to you if I’m there and he was I don’t care I want you to do it so that was that was cool and then yeah again um like moments that you can’t buy is like him making the cut on on the last hole of a challenge Tour event it was great does he have the tools does he want to be pro golfer could he play you know eventually yeah so he finishes um he’s doing really really well when we moved to Dubai I think um so that was two years ago now and I and I do genuinely think that’s been amazing um for the boys golf if you like I think that they’ve uh just with the weather the the time that they get to spend um and and they’ve been really good about it they work so hard um I’ve got to give them that and I think I think now is going to be a great time because Oscar so for for us um as English or British if you like so we go you finish high school at 16 17 18 is college and then we would say University which is is college like a different school then uh so that you can stay at the same school a lot of the time but sometimes schools only go up to high school and then you would move on to a college which is only two years and then it would be University whereas really is finishing high school over here um so he’s going to have he’s been thinking about coming over to America um going to college over here but he’s going to have he’s going to take a gap year now and then I think it’s going to be really interesting cuz you’re going to see in a sort of pivotal time in your life if you like if he’s going to be you know one of them that wakes up every as he got the grit and determination it’s easy to say when you’re in I know I know it’s have you got the self- discipline to be up every morning and treat it like a job so I’m looking forward to seeing what that time holds and then we’ll uh go from there but absolutely I mean honestly the first round of the challenge event so I um obviously I’m always traveling with work and they don’t get to travel that much they do come out as much as they can but I’ll go away for a month so I don’t I don’t see them play for like a month and I’ll come back and every time I come back they’ve always they always improve uh for sure and um so I flew back from Hilton Ed we got a flight uh it was a Sunday night flight from Orlando which lands in a mon Monday evening in Dubai and uh this was the week of the challenge St event now so we walked through the door at like 9:30 p.m. or something Oscar says I’ve booked tea time for uh 8:15 in the morning tomorrow ABAB is like now oh come on so I caded that day and he played fine I was like he’s he’s you know playing all right uh seems to be doing okay so then the tournament comes and I swar Thursday morning he’s teed off and for the first 13 holes will have discussed the golf shot picked what he’s going to hit and he’s just stepped up and hit the absolute best version of that goal shot you can imagine and I was like [ __ ] hell I could see it golf I like sometimes competition locks I mean I locks people in I feel like I play better when it matters you know I honestly he played so well and um he did great he shot a bogy 3 3 under in the first round and it was Unreal how well he played uh I’m pretty it’ de beat me that day without question yeah it’s awesome yeah that was a great story too um speaking of Dubai you’ve been there for what two years now yeah how like I feel like living in Dubai is kind of like living in Vegas like do do I do like Vegas as well actually do you guys do you have like a like we have a house cuz when I think of it I just think of those like crazy six-star hotels uh yeah I mean that’s the stuff that we never do uh cuz when you live there you obviously don’t do like the the stuff so there are people who like live in houses and like residential streets and all that stuff yeah of course yeah so we live um we live on the uh jira golf states that that golf course that they play at the end of the year and you know we just live in and EST State like any like you know a lot most people do we have a house too St it’s just a norm house Garden go to the grocery store and stuff absolutely yeah we’ve got two pretty close to us so it’s good all right so Dubai is like a real place Dubai is like a a real place but it is it does look cool on Instagram as well uh it’s got everything and it is it is actually very much like um when you say it’s like Vegas is in a way and and I actually I could live in Vegas easily Vegas also has houses exactly and I I wouldn’t go the strip that much you would go for dinner or something and we we would go we would call it the city um you know like 25 minutes 30 minutes away we would go into the city for dinner and stuff but we don’t do it very often but you you know yeah it’s very normal but with with you playing on in the US fulltime and and also when you go back to play the European tour you’re playing mostly in like Western Europe wouldn’t it make more sense to locate somewhere like on the East Coast maybe I mean just like going back back and forth uh who was it that said I think it was Ryan Fox he said to me so Ryan ry’s playing his first uh year on uh on the PJ tour this year and he was asking me how it how it is like the travel and I’m like well it’s fine you know it’s long flight and but it’s it’s I can get a direct flight to most a lot of places anyway um you know I’ll be on the road for three weeks four weeks um and then I’ll go home for two and then I’ll do it all again um kids are happy cla’s happy you know I’m fine getting on a plane he’s like because I think you might be the only person to get a PJ so card and move further away from America and um yeah I don’t know like we we have uh I guess why we moved um I have the academy over there um the schooling’s really good um and we actually have a lot of friends over there so we have a a really nice life over there but um yeah I just we’ve just never made the move over here um does the wife not like America hates it no I’m joking um no I don’t know we’ve just never yeah we’ve just never done it um one of those things I guess one of the few that is uh I mean we loved our life like I love England um absolutely do we loved our life over there and we still have the house there and I guess that’s us we live um in Dubai or the UK uh but I spend most of my time in America so I guess that’s how to describe my life yeah you get to see the whole world I guess um you mentioned Bobby Mack what kind of guy is Bobby Mack because from my perspective I I know I’m very you know just hello but there are certain there are certain people that you talk to on the PGA tour who don’t they don’t come off the same as all the other people on the PGA tour and one of those guys that jumps out is like Shane Lowry is like that and Joel Damon I feel like is like that and I feel like Bobby ma is kind of like that where he’s not one of these guys who you know Golf and golf and golf and I’m gon to surround myself with my team and he’s like a very social person and and when you speak to him it’s like you know he misses people and he misses home you obviously have spent a bunch of time with him played on the R cup with him um what kind of guy is he and and kind of how cool is that watching him with his dad am I one of those with my team and everything I don’t know got an opinion on everybody else but like no listen I’m not saying in a bad way I mean I would you know there’s a l you guys are playing for it’s all right we won’t get into it it’s fine um Bob Bob’s uh Bob’s cool and I think do you know one of the things about when you’re in a rider cut team with with people is you do become that that much closer to someone um cuz you know you you don’t um you don’t play as a team and you don’t have people as your teammates very often um especially in that Ric up like format so you do become closer and you do see different sides of people and Bob um I think Bob is very connected with where he’s from his home his family and I think it’s you know he’s very very pure um in that regard and um is is clearly you know a phenomenal golfer and I think his career um has been on a very consistent like upward trajectory um for a good few years now uh but you’re right he’s just got that you can’t help but um like enjoy who he is like and and his interviews and everything and um I I do think I think that’s I think that’s so important and he surprising thing is he is unbelievably professional um he works very hard um and he he spends his time doing doing the right things really and um but yeah I I respect so much like that connection to home that he always keeps and um you can you know sort of you can tell that that I’ll never leave him yeah he’s obon baby OB B I haven’t actually fin has been on holiday there a few times is it a night it’s like a place people go for Holiday yeah it’s I think it’s a beautiful part of Scotland especially in the summer but very very long way away well for us a long way away yeah um just wanted to ask what was your reaction to the Scotty situation at Valhalla like what how did you find out so I woke up and uh there was just a load of messages on my phone were you afternoon that day I was afternoon that day um uh and yeah so I I woke up loads of messages on my phone and then pictures of it um well I didn’t I didn’t partic I didn’t really when you just woke up and I read him I was like well that’s you know not real so just kind of bed it away but then uh yeah escalated unbelievable story really this is the wild I mean you know it’s wrapped up the wildest thing Wild Thing and do you know when something like that happens like the internet does it great the internet comes alive and so proud of like the the memes like it’s the best thing isn’t it it was a good it was a good Twitter day it was a great Twitter day it was a great Twitter day I have to give a big shout out to draftking sports book I’ve just been having myself an excellent excellent time this spring/summer and it is really as simple as Scotty Sheffer and Nelly Corda two of them for a while I just bet on the best players they just continually were victorious unfortunately my two future for the NHL teams are out I had the Bruins gone I had the Dallas Stars gone uh and then I also bet on the Dallas Mavericks in the finals probably not looking great probably not looking particularly great but that Scotty sheffler guy he just keeps it chugging and keeps helping me out I just love having skin of the game and have you ever heard heard me talk about the basketball the basketball on this show ever no I’m into it because the draftking there you go yeah you just put a little on something and you’re having yourself one hell of a time I think I am going to go Scotty this week people can throw laugh emojis at me say that’s chalk that’s chalk that’s chalk it’s just a smart play that’s all it is yeah when you’re watching the golf tournament when you’re watching this Championship the US Open not not betting on Scotty seems foolish you know what I mean yes and you’re watching him move around the golf course and he’s just better than everyone else and you’re like now I got you have to on the other side of that you have to say I got to avoid this guy I got to rout against him that’s a hard place to be hoping for him to miss Fairways and miss putts and it’s not easy it’s gonna be frustrating for you the beauty about baton on Scotty too in draftking wor book is that you know come Sunday you’ve got a chance yeah you know yep there’s many of these guys that you can take golf is just so hit or miss you can shoot 80 one day and shoot 65 the next Mr Sheffer is pretty much a not going to say there’s a very good chance that he’s going to be a contention we don’t know what we’re talking about we’re just looking at we’re looking at the numbers and we’re just watching Golf and I like the number Scotty sheff that’s the number that I like uh and I also like I said I like K Mor CWA this week he’s 14 to1 now after a good performance he’s played well um but you can pick your own choices you go on to DraftKings to do it you can play fantasy golf at DraftKings very simple if you’re hitting the links this weekend the pros are down in Piner that’s where we are be right there with them from T to green with DraftKings assemble a team of golfers uh while staying under the salary cap then you can sit back as your players score points the only way to add to the excitement of this weekend’s tournament would be if you were playing in it this is the other best choice new customers download the DraftKings app use the code four for a free shot at a share of a million uh dollars in prizes with your first $5 deposit that’s code four only on DraftKings code is f only on [Music] DraftKings you’re playing the Pix balls now yeah played it for a long time I’m playing the Pix balls now too you because I’m curious we’re the only two I think no one really does it which I don’t get the reason that I do it is because there is no worse feeling in golf in my opinion than when you think it’s your ball and then you get up there and it’s not your ball and so I feel like the pick solved that problem it’s nice you know I understand like it rolls the right way um when did you switch and and what was the the motivation I actually did switch because of uh I had like I was struggling to line it’s actually quite difficult to line the lineup uh at times um wasn’t that great as it great at it and I think I was in Vegas playing um remember the CJ cup I think it was at the summit uh the summit club and I remember trying those pix balls I thought I’ll play like they look quite cool and like I’ve got that big white strip in the middle so you know I’ll I’ll use that it seems like it’s helping and then I’ve used it ever since uh it does actually help me line it up um but I also like that everybody shows the ball they have to go like you know everybody go like oh titless one with a blue dot or a line I’m just like no I just it to them yeah there’s a couple balls in the Fairway and I can see from like 30 yards away actually yeah you can um and yeah I I just like it and I think Taylor Made one of the best things about it Taylor Made have been doing a really cool job now over the last two years where you get um like the major ball certain tournaments they do like a different style picks and I actually really like it um so you know like like that US Open they’ll have a US Open ball a pinest ball uh do you need to like get used to that like a different visual uh so we’ve started Adrian We Now give me like a dozen the week before and I’ll like CH I’ll chip and put with them just to uh have a little feel for them the US Open one’s really good is it really I really like it yeah does it have you don’t have to answer does it have even maybe answer does it have to do something with the guy carrying the bag the the logo no it’s got um it’s there’s like a chair that’s synonymous is there with pinest but I didn’t know they see but like you’ll see it anyway and it’s blue and then with when you put a black line on the ball looks unbelievable one last equipment question you’ve got quite an interesting top of the back people talk about my clubs quite a lot well I mean it’s it’s it’s psycho you go driver mini driver yeah fivewood 9wood yeah I’m trying to forward at the moment you going to take out another iron or you going to take out the five I’ll have to take out the fivewood but I might go drive a mini forward 8w how so so what scenarios do you hit the the mini versus the D um so so believe it or not I actually don’t um draw my driver pretty like at all it’s a very straight flight and if and it has a if I’m going to miss it anywhere it misses right um mini driver goes the other way mini driver draws so uh very often um say a hole with a left to right wind that I feel like the ball can get away from me I’ll choose mini um depending on yardage of the hole where I want to hit it in the fair so a lot of people I mean I always just used to tear a driver down and hit like a little cut if you like like a bottomy cut and I would work my driver that way uh for distance-wise um but then uh Fred Couples was was at Augusta so this would have been 2023 wouldn’t it I’ve had it for a year a year and a bit and he was he was raving about this mini driver he’s like this club’s so good you got to get one so I actually tried one at Hilton Head the next week and then it’s it’s been in my bag ever since but there’s still still the odd Golf Course where I haven’t played with a mini driver and I always get excited about it cuz I’m like why am I going to hit this club around here what is the ball speed on the mini driver draw versus the driver you know straighter little cut um it’s about four five miles hour less so you basically almost have like but can you hit the mini driver way up in the air off the ground decent enough it’s still not a it’s still not as comfortable as a three-wood where it’s got like you know shallow face and you feel like you can get it deeper on the deeper on the face and hit it high but um it’s just it’s just something that I’ve worked on um I practice with it off the ground and everything and I’m getting I’m actually very comfy with it now U and because it it holds it spin really so you’re always going to catch it it’s quite a thick face really if you’re going to hit something off the ground but um the spin holds on it you’re always going to catch it slightly at the bottom spin holds on it it doesn’t like flail up or anything like that um and and the good of it outweighs like a couple of shots that you might not be as comfortable with so that’s interesting so what’s your wedge setup you go pitching wedge and then uh yeah 52 pitching wedge yeah so you like tiger in that way yeah I did used to have four wedges I feel like golf changed um it was a few years ago so I was used to have four wedges drive a 3-wood fivewood and a four iron onwards and um like for me there was like a period of time where I don’t know whether the courses just started getting a bit longer I always seem to have something that was right in between a fivewood and a four IR like either on some par fivs or long par fours I having to with this massive cut with a fivewood um so I wanted something that fitted that Gap um so I took a wedge out um and eventually like as as my short game as well and my pitching was improving I felt like I could just take an option out like I didn’t need a 50 right I guess that’s sort of what it is like you guys are so you guys practice so much and you know your numbers so well that like you can dial it back whereas a whereas a we hacker like they need the different clubs yeah and we’re just know and if we’re going to have to figure something out we’ll just spend days and hours and weeks where we’ll figure it out and then we’ll just make it work yeah yeah it’s nice wake up in the morning and just like how am I going to figure this job it’s job yeah it’s it’s your job and you just got to figure things out well you’re very good at it you’re also well sometimes not all the time not all the time you’re definitely uh good at this podcast thing so thank you very much for joining might be a future in that yeah you could be you could be a broad you ever any interest in broadcasting after you do your uh you’re done playing uh I don’t know I I I don’t talk that much so I’d have you know I’d have to work on that that is part of the job yeah the amount of talking I would have to uh work out and get more comfortable especially a golf broadcast you got to fill a lot of dead space yeah a lot of dead space if there something to say about every single shot yeah well I’m used to I’m used to playing for five hours and like not talking that much just walking around yeah it would definitely be definitely be a change but I think you could figure it out maybe like your like your mini driver you just figure it out just figure it out just wake up and figure it out well thank you so much for doing this no thank you um we appreciate it good good luck this week at the United States open at Pinehurst if you shoot 63 on the weekend you might win the tournament yeah 363s yeah on a Sunday 363s 363s on a Sunday that’ll probably that might hold up well that could be like um you know like a mastermind question or like um it’s trivia question trivia question like who’s the only player to shoot 363s on a Sunday I think you’re the only player to shoot two maybe that could be a maybe somebody could use it one day I’d like to be part of something anyway we’ll do this again soon okay cheers thank you man

Let's go!
Great interview – love Tommy, love Dan and his golf obsession.
I do miss the pro's being interviewed by the wider foreplay group though, feel like lots of recent ones have been Dan solo. Dan asks great questions but he's not your everyday golfer like the other 3. A combination would be great.
Very convinced that this course is going to to war with these golfers.
Love this podcast, love the mix of golf and random other themes.
