Ten years ago, Ogden native Zac Blair played in his first U.S. Open at the Pinehurst No. 2 golf course. He finished tied for 40th as a 23-year-old.
Tony fow and Zack Blair will represent Utah at the US Open this week this is the third US Open for Zach I caught up with the current Utah open champion and former BYU cougar after today’s practice round at the famous Pinehurst number two course after he went 5 under par in his final 10 holes to win medalist honors at his US Open final qualifying event last week you know do I needed to finish pretty strong and uh it’s always nice to kind of do it when it matters and you know always fun to be here now you’re back at Pinehurst for the US Open like you were 10 years ago I mean talk about a great venue to qualify for yeah yeah absolutely I think you know one of my favorite golf courses for sure and you know getting to play it in a major in the US Open even even cooler this is your third US Open what’s it like playing in this event obviously really cool you know kind of the Pinnacle of golf right you know one of the four majors you know the national open it’s kind of what you dream of as a kid it’s uh hoping for a good week you and Tony F now representing Utah do you take pride in that that we’re all watching and rooting you on yeah yeah absolutely I think I’m actually going out and playing a few holes with him tomorrow so excited for uh for both of us and you know hopefully like I said hopefully we go out and play well how do you feel your game is right now you’re coming off a nice finish at the Canadian open t24 got another top five finish with Patrick Fishburn how do you feel like you’re playing right now yeah I’ve been playing good honestly all year just kind of seems like falling asleep for you know an hour or two or you know having a bad day that’s kind of killing the week um but you know if I can kind of clean that stuff up and and uh sharpen the game a little bit and have four good rounds I feel like I’m you know playing as good as I ever have so just got to find a way to you know keep battling and just wait for it to happen
