[Music] the competition has risen as we’ve officially hit our halfway point with the live golf league schedule and it’s Championship Sunday and today is today we Crown a team and individual champion and what better place to do it than a place where everything is bigger first time here ever in Houston Texas puj Ortiz Moran Casey all leading that individual leaderboard and we’re here to talk about all of that and more welcome to Club 54 pre-round show I’m your host Christian Crosby joining me is my best friend forever Jerry fultz as you guys know Jerry we’re officially halfway through this live golf league we’re here in Houston now it’s Championship Sunday we’ve been here a while you got to tell me as we open the show what’s been your favorite thing about Houston so far you know my favorite thing is Arlo white who I don’t know who’s ever spent much time in Houston he said this is his favorite Tournament of the Year thus far and Houston has not disappointed Texas was never going to disappoint uh they’re known for their Hospitality in this great state and uh the fans have showed up really to support this event in some impressive heat let’s get into the golf let’s first pull up our leaderboards for today first we’ll start with Team leaderboard Jerry take a look at this leaderboard tell me what you see we talked a lot about this in the post show for anyone that missed yesterday give us a little breakdown of this team leaderboard here first of all you got two teams that speak uh English as a second language at the top fireballs and tqu GC so I think this weather might have something to do with many of the countries from which they hail uh but they’re playing well on these Bermuda greens Bermuda Fairways in this really really tough heat of course cleaks are kind of the sentimental favorite for a lot of people because of Martin kimer and the reputation he has the resume he has and the fact that they were kind of seller dwellers for the first season and a half two seasons before adding morac this year but you know I still think four races from five back are going to get it done Crushers however they have a replacement player for Charles how III and John Catlin this week he got off to a good start yesterday didn’t finish it off but he will be the Difference Maker if they’re able to make a surge well let’s take a look at that individual leaderboard Jerry you do such a great job break this down for us we have four guys tied right now at the top stack leaderboard I love this anybody’s I think it’s 19 guys within five of the lead 16 guys within four of the lead normally you’d think anybody that far back and win it but not when you have to pass that many people and not players of this caliber Moran has pretty much had the hot hand on the greens amongst those leaders Paul Casey ball striking wise he is so reliable he’s going to be tough to beat but any of those guys can win you got young pu is well tied for the lead and Carlos Ortiz who’s won here in Houston well let’s take a look at some highlights from our top scores of yesterday you just mentioned HJ who uh finished T15 I think his best finishes was Las Vegas and jeda this could be his best Liv finish uh ever yeah he’s been playing well away from Liv this year obviously trying to chase world ranking points to get in majors and he’s getting in quite a few for a young man who just turned Pro a year and a half ago Adrien Moran reigning DP World Tour player of the year otherwise known as the European tour he’s a stud player uh he’s really I mean that was his put on number two yesterday it’s after a sloppy bogey at one but he’s really had the touch on the greens hasn’t made everything nobody has but yeah and here’s Carlos Ortiz who had a hell of a day yesterday pretty solid career thus far uh he’s not playing next week in Piner so he’s going to look forward to some rest after this heat seems like he’s been on a hot streak since his International Series Championship win absolutely yeah both he and PUO have played great abroad and Paul Casey you know he played awesome lost in a playoff back in Hong Kong kind of a similar style course this one longer but one that really really requires accuracy off the tea doesn’t require length yeah it does it give him any Edge considering he’s won here before I believe he won in 2009 yeah a little bit of an edge but you know what I think really gives him the edge this week he’s got Johnny McLaren his normal caddy he’s back celebrating uh dday or honoring dday in France and he that was really important to Johnny McLaren so he’s got his wife on the back now Paul Casey is a wonderful guy to be around fun guy very outgoing very nice but he’s also sometimes really really tough on himself with his wife on his bag he’s got to be a lot more of his own best friend out there and I think that’s going to stand him in good stead today he said in his press conference I know what it takes to get it done but it doesn’t make it any easier he said it’s always been tough out here you also mentioned that this course specifically really forces every aspect of the game above it test it tests it’s a it’s a well-rounded test um you don’t have to do anything great but you can’t do anything bad and and expect to contend Patrick Reed I think he’s probably the most allaround solid player T green around the greens and on the greens he’s one back he’ll have the home crowd support that is still my pick to pull I I want to get more into that a little bit Jerry but first let’s check in with domm and suan for what to watch for today on Championship Sunday Dom suan over to you you know suan I’ve spoken to a lot of players earlier today about what is the key to playing well around here every single player says you have to find the fairways you can’t get the ball close out of this Bermuda rough the greens are firming up the pins are tuck today Paul Casey leading Fairways hit this week leading Fairways hit for the entire season if his putter C prates just a little bit today he’s going to be in with a real shout well another player that is in with a real chance is David pu he’s obviously proven himself outside of live golf he’s won two professional wins already in his very short professional career he’s got a lot on the line this week though he’s got to fight for individual standing points we’re halfway through the season he said on our podcast that he comes out to win and I think if he wants to win today day he’s going to have to approach they with that mindset all right thank you suan and Dom always love hearing from you guys in the pre-show Jerry let’s talk more about Patrick Reed also known as P dog P dog let’s talk about P dog uh he got a lot of love from the fans yesterday uh he said in his press conference uh that sometimes when you push it it never happens you got to let it come to you so he wasn’t too worried about his performance yesterday your thoughts on that you know it’s great that he said that it’s great that he thinks it everybody thinks it that just so hard to do in reality to Keep Your Eye Off the prize you know the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow so to speak and get that first validation win in his Live Career which is exactly what it would be CU he is the most overdue the best player who hasn’t won out here who’s not named John Rah obviously John ROM being the one of the top ranked players in the world in any ranking system um so yeah he he’s he’s overdue for a validation win I think it’ll be the first of many he’s got like I said a well-rounded game he’s from Houston he knows the conditions he knows the texture he knows that the greens can get crusty like this and you’re not going to make everything but he has that really slow accelerating stroke that the ball doesn’t seem to bounce it seems to roll better than a lot of other players um I just think I honestly just think he’s going to feel the love from the fans today and and throughout his career that hasn’t always been the case and I think that’s going to really help him stay positive and stay focused on the shot at hand and not get ahead of himself or down on himself you can tell this guy is in his home H the way he’s carrying himself he’s got a little he’s got a little extra like Comfort to him a little extra swag to him my question to you is is it better for him to embrace that energy or is it better for him to lock in you know he’s a businessman out there he’ll he’ll he’ll keep his his uh mind on the task at hand but he’ll feel it he’ll sense it and blazing heat but I’ll tell you what the fans have been absolutely outstanding to watch they’ve been supporting him uh and I I think the PE dog nickname is definitely going to stick after this week are saying this is from Pro Golf critic great to see elk out here at Liv golf Houston speaking of great golf swings his swing was my swing thought for years uh speaking of elk he’s here with us now two-time players champion former PGA champ an absolute golf goat joining us on Club 54 pre-round show Steve elkington thank you so much for joining us how are you I’m great I’m great I got to ask you before we jump in Jerry how was it being on the main production show with the one and only Jerry fols he was on with dom yesterday I’ve been I’ve covered him so many times in his career he he won’t even remember it we might actually shared a beverage or two at night once in a while with our good friend Mark Li but uh you say this is even unseasonably warm for you and you live here you’ve lived here since College it’s hot this is warm today but it doesn’t seem to be affecting the players the schools are good we got a shootout this afternoon looks to me like we’re going to probably get to 14 under to win this event today we got about a handful of guys that are in it I think you know when you look at the individual leaderboard I want to ask you a little bit more about yourself in a minute but when you look at the individual leaderboard you have I think it’s 19 guys within five lead 16 within four lead normally you would think those guys have a chance to win but not when you have to pass that many people is it that’s that’s correct I think if we look at 10 under the lead there’s four of them if I say 14 under uh we’ll probably take this event we got to look down at the guys that are seven gr McDow Lucas Herbert wolf those guys they’ve got to shoot the low round of the week to get into that group and and the other guys might have to falter so I think it’s going to come out of the top six guys nine and eight under are still in it now a few of the guys are guys you competed against a few of the guys you don’t really know very well a number of them especially young guys like PU um but you were part of the original talks Greg Norman had when he envisioned a world tour was some 30 years ago you were one of those top guys give us your thoughts on what has evolved now into live golf yeah it sort of almost almost happened back then yeah I don’t think it would have been as good as this you know I bought an 82y old guy doctor a friend of mine yesterday to the golf and I uh he you know once he saw what’s out here the the bottom line of about live golf is this is a great product you guys got great great players Bryson Brooks all these guys cam Smith you know the Australian team it’s just so intriguing and walking around here yesterday talking to these lot of young people and uh it’s a different crowd and you know what I like it I was going to ask about the atmosphere this isn’t you know typical golf atmosphere you can hear music blasting right now fans are right beside us as we speak with the energy you’ve seen a lot of golf you played a lot of golf you’ve seen a lot of things in the world of golf how can you speak to this atmosphere here specifically at Liv Golf League I would love to hear your perspective of it it’s up it’s up but you know the players I think they try harder honestly because there’s more money anyone that plays golf for money like I have for 30 years if there’s more money at stake you you work harder you try harder I’ve been out here all week with Pat Perez and AK we walk nine holes these guys are grinding and the team deal is very interesting I have my favorite team of course rers but uh and they’ve got two wins and I think it’s probably going to take four wins out of a team to win the whole show what are you guys yeah I think so but the the the season long competition for the teams there’s bragging rides but it all comes down to the team championship the top three teams get that first round by you haven’t played team golf I mean you were part of the first what four president cups but for the most part since you won three national championships at the University of Houston it brings a different element to it and I know you talked about it yesterday with dom on the air but it brings a different element because every shot every single player hits today counts and you’ve played some Sundays and you’ve played along with a lot of other guys who played Sundays where you’re making $10 birdies not the case here now I like the team deal you can tell the team deal is important when you you listen to an interview that Bryson uh gave I think last week when he was down last year and things weren’t going too well for him and now that’s reversed for him and he felt like the team of this thing helped him I watched the Rippers putt together they all had to did some drills together it just kills a lot of monotony but that being said from from from the outside mate you’ve got a tournament going on with the team that’s the exciting part yeah it’s an event well we actually have some social for you El we’re going to keep more talking about the event but check this out you this says this doesn’t look or feel like an exhibition uh and you actually tag Greg Norman there too tell me why you decided to say this and uh talk more about this was that was week two of our existence two years ago and that was when there was a lot of anti- narrative out there and it was really cool a guy who didn’t have a dog in the fight to see him at least you know kind of look at the guys and say come on be real here mate this is as real as you get out here I mean these guys at the top today this is golf this is the Houston open is this is they’ve had the Houston open here on this course for years this course is getting a little tricky and crusty these they all these guys are sort of worried about their rounds today this is as real as you this is as real as it gets these these guys are out out to kill yeah and you know what you’re your daytoday work now is uh it’s waggle and what’s the other one what do you call well my company is secret golf but it’s it’s called waggle golf app now yet but my point is you are in tune with the golf audience cuz it’s all people who play golf and love golf and 5 million of them it seems to me like that gives you a better pulse on what the fans think about professional golf in the landscape than maybe what uh some of the narrative is yeah the narrative is just boring well that’s pretty direct it’s it’s exhausted um yeah I mean I I I like fan engagement you know this is the Mega of fan engagement I sat there and watched the parachuters yesterday come in and that was that was cool I I knew for sure then that I wouldn’t do it after seeing them them guys come in but uh yeah my company we do fan engagement we have a deal with IBM we’re bringing whatson X so the fans can see get as close to the golf as possible find out what is the true odds of these shots these guys are hitting as T player we are the most risk adverse people on Earth you talk about business we do not take risk unless we have the odds in our favor and that’s what I’m going to bring more to what I do can’t wait to oh sorry I love it I can’t wait to to learn more about it can’t wait to much more to play for and uh you know being part of this team this year has been it’s been great for me motivating and you know I’ll continue to to play hard for the team today and hopefully the individual takes care of itself now is that a technical Qui uh tip quickly you hitting shots out of the bunker last night yeah I mean I think it’s always something I work on you know I have a tendency to kind of drop a little behind it and you know the bunker just kind of sharpens up that striking a little bit and keeps you nice and calm in the feet as well so it’s also in the shade think about that’s right taught me through there’s a lot of similarities you say between that and golf yeah yeah so I get a lot of uh a lot of cues a lot of mental cues from for my golf game um and I was I was working with the sports psychologist and we were talking about yeah like how I approach my golf game and he’s like why don’t we just translate that over to football and what you do in football and um you know I’ve got a lot of things from that and uh and and yeah it’s worked pretty well so uh so yeah a lot of similarities and it’s always fun just coming out and seeing the the guys spack the balls around and uh yeah always good fun out here walk with me Tommy now you’re good friends with Sammy hfield that’s right so you played at College together uh yeah so we were uh we were at Florida together for one year uh um I went to Tennessee my freshman year transferred to Florida and then uh we were together for our sophomore year and Sam turned Pro after that and was on the European tour for a few years but uh but yeah but yeah that’s where I met him we uh just became friends instantly and um you know it’s funny when I first met him and uh we started hanging out like I didn’t know he was a good golfer I just I was like oh he’s some guy on the golf team and uh and he turned Pro that uh you know that next year and I was like what the heck man like you’re you’re leaving me like what’s going on but um yeah obviously he you know made that move and now he’s here on live and um you know yeah I’m stoked that he made this move it’s it’s been incredible for him well go support your that’s what we wanted to hear really I mean when I played the tour there’s sort of three things that everyone wanted to know right what club were they hitting what were you saying to your caddy you know and what did you say after you you miss that putt I mean they you guys are bringing it to everyone and that’s that’s what’s making the magic happen we’re going to talk more about that in just a moment cuz I have a bunch of questions for you El stand [Music] by all right as you can see we have a little uh tweet here it’s it’s can you explain this here you do a lot of traveling elk uh it’s time big thanks talk about this that was a Kentucky Derby that was outfit but that’s that’s the tour bus that I used to take on tour that was Will Smith when he uh when he did Men in Black and I got it from him and that’s what I lived in W I’m I’m sorry rewind that back what did you get from Will Smith what that trailer I got from will redid it made it into golfy uh had a bourbon bar and a putting green in it it was awesome now what did you put that fit together yourself or do you have a stylist I need to know this right now no stylist mate mate I don’t have a I just come sty okay I like that that’s good St let’s talk more about it first I’m going to toss it over to Arlo and David in the booth it’s a little hot out here I know you guys are cool in there but tell us what’s to come thank you Christian Jen’s our floor manager keeping us in check here in the live broadcast studio now David Championship Sunday invariably delivers incredible drama I’ve got a little sneaky feeling this is going to be one for the ages today we’ve got a four-way tie at the top of the pylon 16 players within four shots of the lead but if you were to look below the top four where’s the Dark Horse coming from for you well a low score we’ve seen so far is 65 we’ve had four of them I’m kind of surprised uh at that Arlo it wouldn’t surprise me if somebody shoots 64 or below and if it’s someone like a Sergio Garcia or a Dustin Johnson you know they may well challenge these four at the top yeah Patrick Reed big day for him on home soil he’s only one off the lead it’s take a look at the team competition because of course uh we’re fighting on multiple fronts here on Championship Sunday the five balls have a healthy Advantage at the moment over torqu in second that can change in the blink of an eye do you have a little sneaky feeling for the Four Aces and the crushes here who are five shots back well the Four Aces you know really haven’t lived up to the potential at all this year and uh if we can get Pat Perez and Harold Varner into the mix you know they may well be uh you know they may be a force to be reckoned with between now and the end of the season I expect would expect them to win any whiff of playoffs in the in the nostrils I hope not I have to drive home Christian we’ll get David out of the door as soon as we possibly can back to you very nice Arlo and David thank you for that very exciting uh elk don’t go anywhere before we get out of here I want to get your final thoughts for a championship Sunday but before we do you’ve had such a big role in growing this game of golf you have something called secret golf that I would love for you to tell the fans watching about yeah I have a company that’s uh called secret golf um we have a this bowl about fan engagement we have golf games we have media we have ai driven analytics and we’re trying to get the fans as close as we can to the game what are the odds using IBM whatson X to do all that and I’m telling you it’s cool and we got a lot of people that like it I even saw a YouTube video a secret Golf Show from seven years back it’s similar to what we see Bryson Des Shambo doing currently growing his YouTube presence his online presence talk about how important the digital aspect is I love what Bryson’s doing I want to talk to him more about what he’s doing I’d like to I’d like to do something with him you know for years they wouldn’t the tour wouldn’t let us play against one another they think they own our rights but now that they’re out and I’m out we can do whatever we want so as we get into your final thoughts about Championship Sunday you’re a big time winner can you talk about what it’s going to take for these guys to win today 14 under probably going to be the win I’m looking at uh Carlos Ortiz looks to me like he’s swinging the best we got a couple of young guys who won the Australian Open David pug Casey’s there Reed’s there 14 under the number if waim Neiman comes up from behind and wins the whole show it’s probably it may steal him for the whole year he could he could take the whole trophy today if he did that so it’s going to be great and I can’t wait to see it and 95 your PGA Championship it was actually a come from behind win in a playoff what would you say some of our guys that are a little behind what’s it going to take for those guys to Make Some Noise today the best round of the week is what it’s going to take for those guys that are down there at 7 yeah and and talk about the importance of golf being here in Houston you don’t have to ask me what I think just look out there and and tell me what they think because honestly I didn’t know what kind of crowd would be pulled in Houston in 110 in June and yesterday blew my mind I bought as I said I bought some PE people some friends some older people explained the whole concept to them and they were blown away and it’s fun the the biggest thing about live golf it’s fun with with real golf all right I got one more for you before we get out of here quick last question final thoughts for Championship Sunday who are your predictions for today individual and team what do you got give it to us I’m going Carlos Ortiz to win the tournament I’d like to see Tor come up and win because they’re out of it for the team right now there’s three teams that have two wins each for the season long if talk or
