This is my first channel review of the component brand Maltby from The GolfWorks. I try 2 different models and pit them against one of the most popular direct to consumer brands, Takomo.

all right people have been asking for me to review this brand for a long time let’s [Music] go hi everyone welcome back to the channel hope you’re having a wonderful day so people have been asking me about Malt B golf clubs now look if we’re being honest while I have liked a lot of the Mal clubs over the years some of them well some of them just weren’t great looking I’ll be honest the game improvement stuff is always going to be a little more clunky looking but even in the better looking stuff there was always some little detail there was always some you know whether it was the paint job or just some sort of little aesthetic thing that just kind of held them back just a little bit from really looking just the way you want a club to look these clubs this ts4 I cannot give you one thing that I don’t like about the look of this club this thing is absolutely beautiful looking the Mal ts4 forged iron true Billet forged 1025c carbon steel used in this design it is designed to be a pure players blade design that delivers performance and feel unlike any other muscle back head it’s got a CNC mil face also has a CNC mil sole on it which you can see the little lines on it there from the design from the lines the shape of it the finish on it the way it looks looking down at it the logo the stamping the club numbers everything about it is modern is Sleek is clean and looks highend it doesn’t not in any way look like a quote unquote component or direct consumer Club head it looks like a highend BigTime OEM brand Iron Head now the other one I’ve got here today this is the ts1 I and this is actually what we would call more of a hollow body iron so maybe design-wise supposed to be a little bit more forgiving than that ts4 a little bit easier to hit it’s a multi-piece construction but again look at the lines on it look at the shape look at the design the logos the stamping all of it absolutely just beautiful simple modern clean next thing I really like about these well as we’ve already talked about their components which means you guys can buy them just as the heads and build them yourself or have someone like me build them but you don’t have to buy and Assemble Golf Club so you can really pick and choose exactly what you want along with that guess what if you want to build a 4 through pitching wedge traditional setup sure you can do that but maybe you want to build a 5 through n iron you can do that maybe you want a half set maybe a 4 68 pitching wedge you can build you can put together any combination you want because you’re buying all the heads individually also by the way each of these heads $60 a piece so price-wise really good all right so if we’re going to be comparing these mpy irons to something why not compare them to one of the most popular direct to Consumer irons that’s currently out there and that is Tacomo so I’ve got the two Tacomo irons that I think are probably the closest match to those malt bees that being the 101t and the 301 CB we’re going to start off hit a few with each of those and then we’ll compare them to the Mal we’re going to keep the same shaft same grip all the way through and just switch out the heads so first up we’re going hit a few with the 101t all right 301 CB 4 forged head cavity back in name not a whole lot of cavity there though as we’ve talked about in other videos you definitely need to be on your game to hit these clubs but they look really beautiful let’s see what we get today all right first up in the Maltby lineup we’ve got the ts1 IM again this is the hollow body style so more comparable to that 101t first time actually hitting this let’s see what we get was a little bit off the toe but clearly got away with it well that was another miss that was thin let’s see what kind of distance we get plenty of distance that thing jumped off the face right there okay first thoughts what I’ve got for what I’m seeing here first off I will say I notice that the length of the blade is maybe just a little bit longer from toe to heel toe to heel than the Tacomo irons or then maybe similar style irons it definitely look looks just a little bit longer which honestly I feel like probably instills a little bit more confidence the other thing I noticed and some people will pick up on this more than others but the hosle right here this distance or the length of this hosle on these irons and on the uh ts4script now what does that really mean well honestly the hosle is just kind of where Club manufacturers kind of stick extra weight really is is kind of what it does at this point so if you have a shorter hazzle that means you can kind of move the weight other places in this case maybe in that slightly longer blade or somewhere else inside the actual head but just be aware it does have that slightly shorter hosle and you may or may not notice it it feel wise it feels like it feels like a really good feeling hollow body iron right hollow body irons are always going to feel a little different the bad ones can feel kind of thin or kind of clicky the good ones are going to just feel pretty muted and solid but it does have a little bit of a feel there and so these they have that kind of feel it’s not clicky it’s not thin but you do know you know it’s not a pure forged one piece head all right let’s try the ts4 oh I really like this guy I really like this one quite a bit has more of that forg one piece kind of feel to a little more thuddy as far as the blade length goes I think it’s pretty close to the IM but it feels maybe just a touch more narrow again still has the slightly shorter hosle but this guy thus far has been pretty fantastic I’ll be honest I’ve really liked the feel I’ve liked the dispersion I’ve liked the ball flight it’s all been pretty pretty right on that was a Miss after I say how much I like it but even that that wasn’t anything to do with the club that’s all me I’m going to try and miss one on purpose just to see what I get out of it versus some of the other ones that I didn’t try and Miss on purpose just happened let’s see if I catch one out on the toe a little more see if I can make that happen all right that was way that was way out on the toe so let’s just see what happens I mean those are pretty good straight results right there yeah efficiency way down ball speed way down but not I mean not terrible that was definitely I mean that was hit heck you can see the Mark it’s yeah I was hit way out here that’s as solid as I can hit one right there all right here are all the numbers first off let’s just check you’ll see both the club Ed speed got slightly faster as I kept moving through the test but not by a big margin and the efficiency really was about the same for the hollow body versus hollow body and the forge versus Forge when it came down to it I think the 101t was actually my uh preferred Club head in the hollow body setup a couple long ones with that I am and just just a little bit wider spread than I was ideally wanting I did really like the look of it but numbers wise on here definitely looks like that 101t was a touch better for me now when it came into the forg the 301 CB versus the Mal ts4 these were very very close and you can see all the numbers were really very similar there is a slight Loft difference between the 301 and that ts4 which is why I got a little bit more distance and a little bit lower launch out of that Mal BTS S4 but I really felt like that ts4 was very easy to hit very forgiving overall the 301 for me still feels like it’s a very penal Club if you miss it you’re going to know it I think that ts4 actually well as I showed you with that one I hit you can miss it pretty significantly and still get pretty good results so even though it looks like it feels like a forged muscle back type design when it came down to it the result show that it’s pretty darn forgiving I don’t think if you’re in that category if you’re looking for those player style irons I don’t think you can go wrong in either case but for me I do think I would prefer the slightly bigger head slightly more forgiving look of that mulb ts4 all right another really good option if you’re looking for component if you’re looking for direct consumer irons these mulp clubs are no joke they are very solid they look absolutely beautiful you can get them in whatever configuration you want Al be it you can’t get them in left-handed right now I know I’m sorry but any number configuration you can get them in and price-wise really solid I thought the ts1 IM was solid I didn’t get quite as good a number quite as consistent as I did with the 101t but I think in the 301 CB versus that ts4 I give the slight nudge I give the slight lean towards that Mal ts4 I just think it’s a little bit more forgiving and there’s nothing wrong with that hey if you enjoyed this video make sure you go down below like comment subscribe to the channel make sure you hit the Bell icon so you’ll Been playing the ts3s for 2 years now and are by far the best irons I have ever hit. I currently play to a 5.8 and have them in the tt elevate stiff shaft.
These look clean, love the finish.
Current 4 HDCP. Ive been gaming the TS4 with x100 DG tour issue since last fall 2023. Will never ever go back to OEM over priced latest and greatest irons. Love these sticks. Get a ton of compliments on them but nobody has a clue what they are. always a great conversation piece.
I've been playing the Maltby original TE heads for years and I love em, so much nicer than my previous MP57's.
what shafts are you using for your test.
I have a mixed set of these. TS4 P-7 TS3 6-4 with SteelFiber Fc shafts for $800 and they are money.
Thanks for showing Malty some love. You have to try the TS3s. They are amazing. Buttery smooth feel and super forgiving. Also with noting that Golfworks will custom build a set for any of the Maltby clubs they carry.
Great video. Would like to see the TS3 reviewed next if possible, since it’s a forged iron, and has progressive cavity design.
The TS3s are the best ones they make.
Love it! Been waiting for another guy to review Maltby. They need to get the recognition they deserve.
FYI, anybody hearing about Maltby for the first time on here, they've been around for 30+ years. Every club is designed and tested in house in Ohio. Their design and playability concepts are unique and extremely functional but quite proprietary to Maltby. No borrowed designs or foundry catalog models here. They're the real deal!
@elitefitgolf would be great to see how the TS3 and TE+ V4 compare to each other just to round out the iron reviews.
Great stuff!
Ignoring all new equipment helps my bank account.
The Maltby's are no longer the Maltby of old. They are far more modern and can compete with anyone. I'm building the TS1-IM's now and will have a tester 7 iron of the TS3's very soon. You should think about doing a test with the TS3's. They probably compare to the Takomo 201's and maybe the Sub70 659 CB's.
Thanks for the video. Do you know anyone looking to buy a set of Cobra 3D irons? I have a confirmed order coming and would like to sell them. 4-PW, KBS tour lite regular steel shaft and stock Lamkin grip. Located in the states. If interested please let me know. Have a good one.
Great video.. also thank you for showing off the Maltby irons- I have been playing them for the last 4 years albeit the TS1 using 90g Mitsubishi MMT stiff and have enjoyed them. Its time for another set and am considering the TS4.I was wondering what shaft you used for this test video? Also was it standard length and lie?
Really happy to see this review here. If you’re able, please review the TS3!!! Also, was wondering if you could share a “hack” on how to modify a Maltby iron head so that it can receive demo shafts, so that we can bring in the modified head to a general iron fitting so that it could be considered as a candidate in the fitting.
Get the Hogan irons. I think you'll be impressed. Especially the PTx Pro or Tour.
Just got into Maltby components due to the rabid fan club and price point. I just started playing the TS3's and they might be the most player friendly irons on the component market. They make great stuff. Thanks for the review.
What is the most forgiving irons you've tested, ever?
The TS4 is forgiving because of how its COG is located (especially VCOG) + the MOI + the "CDIM" as Maltby measures it. Physics doesn't care what your club head looks like, it cares where the mass is located. The TS4 locates the COG more like a game improvement iron than a players iron. You can see all the data (and data for a ton of manufacturer's clubs) on the Golfworks website. The only other thing off-setting the TS4 from the game improvement clubs is the sole width, but that is really player dependent on whether it will work for you.
I play the TS3 irons and they are the most forgiving clubs I’ve tried. Way better than my P790s.
