[Music] [Music] [Music] for the red birds at Bush Stadium and Brad Kyle has been excellent all year long he really has Kyle Gibson’s guy that’s going to get you deep into the ball game but he is also going to keep keep you way off speed you look what he’s done here that’s a pretty good list to be on 179 the average against anything other than his fast ball he’ll sweep it he’ll slide it throw the big curveball and the change up they’ve all been effective hugely important start for the Cardinals because the starters quite frankly Brad this week haven’t pitched very deeply into the game oh you’re going to need him to be efficient going to need Kyle Gibson to go deep the bullpen has stepped up but you’re right it’s taken its toll the pen has been excellent they were again last night five innings of one ball BRB at four Innings a game that’s too many yeah that’s not the recipe you’re looking for right but they have been outstanding and it’s more than just the big three at the back end of the pen a lot of guys have stepped up a ton of swing and Miss in this Cardinal Bullpen it’s a pretty day for baseball in St Louis a great day to take a series lead Over the Rockies the Cardinals Flex their muscles early and late last night big game for Dylan Carlson and Company it is game three from Bush Stadium first pitch and lineups coming up right after the break [Applause] for Jim Hay’s beautiful hair Brad Thompson chip carry with you as well here this afternoon as the Red Birds try to take two out of the first three in this four game set and who better to do that Brad than Cardinal starter Kyle Gibson well Kyle Gibson has been a guy that is getting you deeper and deeper into ball games making his 13th start of the year last time out against Houston five and 2/3 ended up giving up three the pitch Arsenal for Kyle Gibson he’s going to sink it sweep it that good cutter keeps the lefties honest four seam change up a curve and the Beautiful Thing is with Kyle Gibson as you know chip he’ll use any of those pitches at any point tough night for Bud Black the rocky Skipper last evening the Cardinal scored early and late pulled away winning 8 to5 and Bud blacks Rockies so far 1 and six in June just 9 and 24 away from Kors field and it’s a different looking lineup for them it’s presented by Ford no Brendan Rogers he injured a hamstring last night and Rogers won’t play today we got to find a way to solve Michael toia not just offensively but defensively he’s had a great first two game kind of tired of seeing that guy to be totally honest with you robbed the Home Run and you’re right three for seven you see the numbers driven in four on the series he had that big triple and then scored on the air that was a huge swing of the bat by him and hopefully here a an efficient one for Kyle Gibson when he’s on the mound I expect everybody to be ready and what a nice it was for Dylan Carlson last night his first three RBIs of the season and he’s rewarded with back-to- back starts in Center on our dobs tire and auto center defense around the horn for the Cardinals no changes Ivon Herrera back behind the dish here for game three Charlie Blackman ready to go for the 22 and 41 Rockies Blackman two hits in the series starts play today batting 249 against Oliver marmel and the Cardinals Gibson last time out three runs in five and two3 innings against the Astros and he’s off to a good start first pitch called to strike by Edwin Moscoso who has the plate for game three today Rockies in their Road Grays Cardinals in their home cream uniforms today and you’re right about Gibson this is a hugely important start for the Cardinals not just for what this game means today but Brad don’t know who’s going to start game four tomorrow afternoon yeah it really is one of those ones you play this one out and then you figure it out tomorrow on the ground and that sneaks past Gorman for a leadoff single for Charlie Blackman so Gibson gets the ball on the ground but Blackman smokes one through the right side it’s a leadoff single here in the top of the first so Brad Watcher toyot a key for Kyle and Cardinal today what leads right into exactly what we were talking about for Kyle Gibson be efficient and that’s uh to me that’s outs early in the count that’s balls on the ground now that one there by Blackman sneaks through but four Innings from Lance four and two3 from Gray need him to get deep you do it by being efficient and the best way to do that is get some DP action here let’s see if Doyle will oblige well Doyle as you know Speedy Runner going to have to to square one up to turn two on him Kyle’s had eight double plays turned behind him so far this year but a fast man as Brad said stands in the way of that one ball one strike for Brenton Doyle the Colorado center fielder who takes time Blackman still knows how to steal a base he’s four out of five this season for Colorado and fouled at the feet one ball two strikes St Louis starts play today two games under 500 it’s a three-way tie for second place in the central Milwaukee with a 6 and 1/2 game lead over the Cardinals the Reds and the Cubs the Pirates are in the cellar seven games back Milwaukee a big win yesterday against the Tigers and like the Cardinals the Brewers are in a stretch of a 3-we period where they’re playing losing teams yeah huge opportunity you look at this series here against the Rockies you drop the first one even things up you hope to take this series do have those pirates that you mentioned in the basement of the central coming in afterwards got to take care of your business right here all of a sudden you could look up at the end of this home stand and uh the central could be very tight that’s the hope for the Cardinals as Gibson ready for a 2-2 pitch for the rocky second place hitter Brenton Doyle and a foul at the plate had him beat but just enough by Doyle to stay alive this guy’s an impressive player 15 multi-hit games last year he already has 16 this season he B it down in the lineup yesterday now hitting second in front of Ezekiel Tovar the pitch roll foul and now they’re making Gibson work here I I must say I’ve been really impressed with what Colorado has been able to do Brad with the longed bats they’ve put together against the Cardinal starters in the first two games of the series that’s not been their MO no it hasn’t bug Black’s team has had a lot of swing in Miss overall a lot of guys that are very aggressive but they have made the Cardinals work I like the idea there chip just not the execution was trying to run that Sinker in after a couple of those sweeping sliders away just pulled that one across so Kyle ready for his 11th pitch let’s see if Blackman takes off he was leaning and draws a throw that’ll be two disengagements there for Kyle Gibson so if Charlie Blackman wants to get an extra step he’s got an opportunity there he goes and fouled away so to your point about efficiency the Rockies aren’t helping matters in this first inning 11 pitches a runner of board and still nobody out especially too you think about how difficult it is to turn two with Charlie Blackman you would think on the move again and that pitches inside it’s Ball Four the throw goes through and instead of first and second Colorado’s got first and third on a bad throw from Herrera that [Music] hurts slider backs up does not catch the strike zone Herrera comes up Fir and just arms side misses badly and that’s frustrating right there should be first and second so still nobody out and the Cardinals another error Cardinals have got to clean things up defensively it’s really forcing the staff to pile up a lot of pitches and stressful pitches at that especially when you play as many tight games as the Cardinals have coming into action today a 960 Fielding percentage for the Cardinals that’s the worst in baseball in June 12 our two strikes he’s in a slide of three for 23 and right now he’s been overly anxious at the plate he’s 0 for eight with four strikeouts and a double play in this series I wouldn’t overthink it here I’d go right back out there line drive in left field it’s one- nothing Colorado Donovan’s going to chase that down but not before Doyle makes it to third the throw is going to come in second and he’s [Applause] out the Cardinals were telling Donovan throw the ball to second he did and he takes care of Tovar who gets an RBI single it’s one nothing Colorado with a runner at third 02 count had him where you wanted to unfortunately hung this one up enough for him to get it but you’re right a nice job here by Donovan he comes up firing at second base and Gorman able to lay that tag on him before he sneaks the hand in so Tovar is 25th RBI he’s out 7 to4 at second and now Ryan McMahon is your batter Colorado strikes first here in the first and leads one to nothing McMahon one for nine in the series infield Creeps in here comes a peg to the plate short hop and it time great pick by Herrera Doyle thrown out four to two and two are out in the inning a really solid job by Herrera behind the plate to stay down on this one hot shot to second base comes up just spiked it gave him that long hop at the very least he stays down gets him by quite a bit at the [Music] plate so a tag on the chin and two her out and Uris Montero is next Montero 0 for the series to this point three homers 23 driven in we’ve seen it from Kyle a time or two this year he’ll sometimes have some traffic in the first inning it’s all about minimizing damage he’s done that to this point down only one and now he’s a strike away from keeping it one- nothing with the Cardinals ready for their first turn well we’ve seen Montero in this series really be susceptible to that break breaking ball away so he had toar in a good count 02 left one on the plate and to make sure this one’s off of it it was and Gibson a nice job to wiggle out of further damage it cost him 20 pitches Colorado though breaks through in the first inning the Cardinals take aim at Ryan feltner in the home first inning wi burles and Goldie coming up here in game three Cardinals Ford offensive lineup no other surprises for you Matt carford to gets the start at DH as we said Dylan Carlson with a big night last night will take aim at Ryan feltner who’s one and five for the Rockies so far this year yeah make it his 13th start of the year and M felter has really struggled his last two times out pitch Arsenal here for Ryan feltner for seam slider change up and sinker every once in a while tries to steal a strike with that curve ball last time out for feltner against the Reds four and a third gave up eight against the Reds time prior to that for and a third gave up five against Cleveland so he has struggled the last two feltner made his major league debut against the Atlant of Braves back in 2021 he had an ultimate welcome to the show moment the first pitch he threw as a major league player was a home run hit by ozie alz not how you plan it be totally honest but he’s a part of History [Music] yep and that’s an honor shared by our buddy Ricky Horton whose first pitch was also hit out and his league average for him and he also is a guy that will see a lot of pitches last night he saw 31 pitches in five plate appearances I did the math on that that’s around 6.2 pitches per plate appearance well done don’t check it just in case Mason just swung it ball forward foul that off his body that hurt and we’ll try again three and [Music] two we’ve seen too there’s nothing you can really as a pitcher you think we just talked last inning right Montero and Tovar all right these guys will expand slider just keep going further off the plate the young mason win isn’t going to do that and any breaking stuff at the bottom of the Zone man he’s showing he can handle that really well and we’re starting to see pitchers try to finish him off with the fast ball and he’s got quick hands that’s diami chased and swings and misses that backed up and Mason couldn’t connect and feltner who’s had some first inning trouble strikes out his first batter on the day Breton doy’s a go Glover he anchors plate [Music] Alec burles riding a six game hitting streak he’s also hit an 11 consecutive games here at home burles is 349 in this series the Cardinals in this lineup have two hitters in the top 10 in lowest strikeout rate Burleson’s one of them dur during the six-game stretch Brad He’s only struck out twice and he has the ninth lowest K rate in the league it’s impressive he and Donovan both don’t strike out much look Mason win I know he just struck out here to start the game offensively for the Cardinals he doesn’t strike out much arado does not strike out much I mean this team is tough had the first final Victory today they beat the Mets in London 72 was the final score Phillies just rolling merrily along they’ve won seven of their last eight one-1 pitch popped up right side who wants this tro and Montero it is going to be Montero who makes the grab and feltner has a one two three bottom first Rockies draw First Blood here in game three yeah Dylan had been waiting for a night like last night game timeing RBI single two-run double he was hitting 122 with no RBI on the season before that Dylan told me this game will keep finding different way to challenge you he said you have to keep the right mindset and keep working chip Carlson got a nice reaction from the crowd after the double he said it was nice it had been a while it had been uh 24 game stretch without an RBI for Carlson and I love players when they show their emotions on their sleeve the reaction of Carlson when he slid into second base late in the game last night was priceless they came up with the fist pump obviously excited for the team and that individual feeling I’m happy for him to have that and I love the fact that throw him right back out there again see if you can build on that momentum that you carried yesterday Jacob Stallings in his first year with the Rockies remember Jacob came up with the Pirates the last two seasons were sent U spent I should say in South Florida with the Marlins and Stallings hitting 300 this year a pretty good backup option for the young Allstar Diaz isn’t it on the ground to Mason win that’s more like it from Kyle long count but Stallings retired and so the ground out starting to pile up for Gibson that’s good to see and here’s the villain Michael toia who’s picked up three hits uh that’s what you want to see out of Kyle Gibbs and his missing barrels makes that play look very easy coming in with that glove stab and good running throw Tony has eight hits this year four homers and a triple and that spins off the plate one ball no strikes throw it there they won’t do much with it at 77 milph especially on a one count right looking for something up you can drive he drops that breaking ball in there and 77 then to 90 at the bottom of the two that’s really been the plan to go to get Gorman down for swing and miss and maybe up for swing and Miss he spit on the last two pitches and now finds himself in a Full Count now you look at what Gorman has done since May 10th which no birthday boy right been pretty good nice present to himself hitting for average getting on base tons of power here slow roller down the first Baseline that will that’s what you want you want the ball on the ground you’re going to try to do this same thing and second time up for Charlie Blackman he did sneak a ground ball through the hole in his first that bad for a single come came around to score in that inning on the ground might be two long throw to Second bad throw to midwin at second and all hands are safe that’s two bad throws from Gorman in this game we got an out at the plate this one sails into left field and instead of a double play two are on and nobody out man this ball is hit directly to Gorman two has plenty of time here he He Turned his feet slings its sidearm and just right out into left field this would be a good look at it here yeah nothing Mason wi can do on that one that’s your tailor made double play ball we talk about it all the time pitchers go through slumps hitters go through slumps Defenders go through slumps and right now Brad over this last three and a half week stretch not just Gorman the frankly the whole Cardinals team has been playing with Butterfingers oh you’re right in in large part they’ve been able to make up for it by making that next play and it hasn’t hurt him as much but that catches up and it catches up in stuff like this where Kyle Gibson right now should be sitting here with two outs in the third inning with a low pitch count now he’s got two guys on and 40th pitch coming up on a day when you need length from him with the unsettled nature of the cardinal Bullpen we talk about stressful pitches you as a major league pitcher dealt with that what does that do and how does that affect your pitch count well like it really is just those extra high intensity pitches right the the the brain is racing you’re trying to be quick to the plate you’re putting a little extra on it to make errors than the next closest team 28 for St Louis 20 for the Mets and it’s led to a big mess here in the third inning that helps two balls in a strike McMahon way out front hitters count gets that big slow breaking ball from Kyle Gibson rough day at the plate he did double and score yesterday but also struck out three times double play ball flipped to second one and on to first it’s a redeemer boy Herrera Carpenter and Dylan Carlson coming up against Ryan feltner who has struck out four of the first six hitters today swinging butt pitcher will cover and take it to the bag himself good play and it’s seven up seven down to start [Music] [Music] here’s Matt [Music] Carpenter we might need to turn the humidity down on the humidor at the Ballpark Carpenter’s another one of the Cardinals that hit a long ball that on any other day might have been a homer yeah there well there have been a lot of them here recently from the Cardinals putting a charge into some baseballs and they ultimately I mean you won the ball game yesterday but how many hot shots were hit at outfielders yesterday at least three or four in the series for the Cardinals and Carpenter thinks about a bunt not a bad idea no balls at a strike I love the idea there we’ve seen Carpenter do that plenty in the past and what it does even the the thought of it it brings McMahon over at third base pulls him in he’s now planned closer he’ll creep up when this pitch comes and allows you to sneak one through there on that left side right now feltner has all of his weapons on point it’s 0 and two for Matt well that’s the pitch that all season long has been the most effective for feltner that four seam fast ball the slider the opposition came in hitting 351 against it the change up 421 at the curve ball doesn’t get the call Stallings held that for a little extra for Edwin moso behind the [Music] plate so a swing on the house for Carpenter perhaps two balls two strikes and the breaking ball takes care of him that is strikeout number five already and two away in the St Louis third well this time the slower curveball here from feltner you see that tumbling 126 action Carpenter well out in front of it so he’s halfway to his career high of 10 he did that on April 6th against the Tampa Bay Rays this year and a big night for Dylan Carlson let’s see what he does in back-to- back’s opportunities and to check to swing one ball no strikes really rooting for Dylan I’d love to see him build some momentum remember he got hurt last year had the ankle had surgery rehab they came back had a great spring and then got hurt I was in one of the games against AR the Cubs in Arizona right before the season was set to start in La that was the shoulder so it’s just been I’m sure a mental grind along with that physical one here for Dylan Carlson in the last year plus what was so noticeable for Dylan was on that previous swing he was really turning it Loose he was swinging the ball or swinging at the ball with confidence with authority and it was jumping off his bat down in spring training more of the same would be welcome right here he’s ahead of the count two and one and he unloads high in the air towards Center but not deep enough Doyle will Glide to his left and feltner is perfect through three Innings he enjoys a one nothing lead it’s game three on a beautiful day at po Stadium on Thursday he Lov seeing that trying to make his way back from that low back issue ever since Steven went down with that back injury it’s been a revolving door in the fifth spot in the Cardinal rotation so much so that again we’re not sure what Oliver maral’s plans are for tomorrow’s game which is the fifth spot one ball no strikes from Montero and he pulls a string even count a good adjustment there and you’re right I mean look oi depending on how this one goes could have some options Andre Palante has gotten the last couple of nods and he will be available unless used today they could deploy an opener if they wanted to piece it all together kind of just depends how far Gibson goes one thing that will help the card is there’ll be a much needed off day on Monday so you’ll get a little bit of rest for your starters relievers and roster alike but 20% of your rotation at question mark is not an easy thing to navigate when games matter so much Cardinals trying to get back to 500 with a win today and tomorrow and there’s a big sweeping swing in a Miss by Montero Who’s down on strikes for the second time Gibson’s gotten the first baseman for both of his strikeouts so far well look what this pitch ends up I mean this is way away in the other batters box it just kind of tells you how late that thing is moving and how much it looks like a strike coming out of the hand of Kyle Gibson a is really happy with with what Jacob Stallings has brought them offensively last year in Miami he hit 191 he’s a career 238 hitter he’s hitting 300 this season and this is 29th game Stallings a gold glove Award winner he earned that honor in 2021 with the pirates that was really enjoyed his game in his time with the Pirates very good leader back there behind the plate didn’t get that it’s a ball and two
