[Music] live golf continues the second half of its 2024 League schedule with its first ever appearance here in Houston Texas Adrien Moran Caleb sered and Martin kimer all tied at the top of the individual leaderboard with seven under and CLE GC lead the way on the team leaderboard it’s day two here at the golf club of Houston welcome to Club 54 pre-round show I’m your host Christian Crosby and of course joining me is my best friend for life my BFF your favorite live golf analyst Jerry fultz and a special guest oh and apparently a special guest dropping off the uh unofficial live golf Houston trophy which has been autograph man present for you boys awesome can I just say quickly this is a boy magnet I’ve just got the most pictures with this than I ever have on live so Bo well maybe you should take that with you Rachel thanks for crashing the show so this is for us we can keep this right you keep that you’ll get all the women I I think fairy said something about Dom with this thing yesterday when we saw on TV I’m not sure what he said I got to tell you yesterday was a treat watch you guys it’s a it’s pretty nice supplemental here in Space City of course that would fit Dom said said d could fit in that you guys give D such a hard time he’s a great sport big shout out to D ble uh how are you doing out here in this uh Houston heat Jerry it’s not bad at all it’s a little cooler than yesterday actually I’m seriously after freezing my tail off in the booth yet again yesterday I I’ll stay out here all day if I could I wish you could Jerry we love you out here what do we do with Spaceman here just leave him there I say we we keep it here for now you know that they actually don’t launch rockets from NASA in Houston and you know why I didn’t know that but why Jerry tell me because of the kinetic energy associated with proximity to the equator it takes 3% less energy to get a rocket into orbit from Cape canaval in Florida then from here how about that the things you learn4 pre-round show how about that Jerry shall we jump into the team leader yesterday should we do it let’s talk golf a little bit here’s a team leaderboard ladies and gentlemen from day one here in Houston Texas Jerry take us through it what do you see here that you like what do you see here that you don’t like I tell you what the cleaks on the heels of having two two guys tied for the lead at seven under there at 17 under they you know they’re not what we consider a top team but they have automatically become a contender but what I really like about this is every one of those teams did it differently the clicks did it with long approach and putting around the putting and around the green and then you go all the way down to somebody like the like well like second place at tqu they did it with driver and wedge and they were second to last in putting what that tells me this is one extremely Fair test of golf that it’s a complete test of golf as well yeah one one team on here we didn’t talk too much about yesterday Ripper GC who obviously had back-to-back championships seems like they’re still doing great as a team possible three repeat possible yeah and three of the guys are playing well all four scored pretty well yesterday but cam Smith did it with smoking mirrors I mean we were sitting with his dad last night who is a typical Australian doesn’t pull any punch just got that self-deprecating sense of humor and said anybody else shoots at least 76 from where Cam hit it yesterday but cam does it he’s a magician around the greens can’t wait to see how that story line plays out but shall we jump into the individual R absolutely let’s do it the individual leaderboard here from day one uh two clicks at the top of this leaderboard who were not grouped together my question is is it contagious when one guy on your team starts playing well how is it that we have two cleaks here maybe not the names we would have expected perhaps to see at the top of list you know there is an element of Truth to that all the players will tell you so when you’re playing together in a group with one of or two of the guys start playing well it seems to become contagious the opposite unfortunately is also true these guys weren’t playing together as you mentioned but when you look up on the leaderboard and you see your teammates doing well or a teammate doing well you you it does give you that extra maybe sense of focus maybe that extra little sense of belief in yourself that you can do it too if he’s doing it I know I can do it and uh it doesn’t hurt the team aspect is so complex and so uh so deeply driven uh in this format that they’re not used to in regular professional golf and these guys are all learning more about it and more about themselves in the process let’s talk about our Young Gun 20-year-old Superstar Caleb satat drove the ball amazing yesterday um why is his game lining up so well here on this course in Houston jar well he’s a B I mean like I said this course this course actually doesn’t necessarily fit a certain the way it’s set up right now a certain style of play we saw players getting it done many different ways uh he is an excellent ball Striker Tia green he was uh I think top three in in Strokes game driving yesterday so he got it done off the te quite a bit but it’s mostly just ball striking he made some putts how his putter goes is how his score goes and he made some putts yesterday a lot of putts yeah he said in his press conference uh when it’s hot like this outside you can’t let your emotions get the best of you and he stayed through it let’s take a look at the press conference now here’s a clip tell us a little bit about your round today it was good um I’d say was really resilient uh I I want to say like I didn’t have to face a ton of adversity on the golf course but I feel like in this heat you’re facing adversity from like hour one to hour five so um you know to be able to fight through that was something I proved to myself for sure and not let my emotions get the best to me because it’s really easy to happen when it’s hot like this so leading tomorrow Hitting off the first tea is there going to be an extra set of nerves up there for you or are you just going to be able to keep it calm I mean yeah I think there will be for sure but I’m I’m going to embrace it I don’t think like I I knew I was kind of built for this and you know I work so hard at home to make stuff like this possible and you I’m very thankful for everybody else that’s helping me out so I’m I’m not worried I just uh I’m going to embrace it and try and hit it the Fairway Jerry I feel like I’m beating a dead horse when I say this kid is so mature but I just feel like he keeps proving it day in and day out even just listening to him in his press conference how mature and ahead of the game he is I would love to hear you speak to his matur definitely I mean I I couldn’t relate to that when I was 19 I was a wasted youth for crying out loud than a wise and productive old age according to meat but uh I think it’s a big day for Caleb today it’s the first time that I can remember that he’s in the lead or had a share the lead going into a round of golf and live golf his his amateur resume his pedigree is awesome but this is a whole different league right here so I think today’s going to be a big day for Caleb personally I know I believe it I think I know David believes it I think everybody who’s who’s watched him play amateur golfer here in his short career professionally believes that he’s got what it takes to become a very common household name in golf in time would you put Legion 13 at the top of your list for a potential uh Team Championship here in Houston uh I still think four aces are going to get it done I still think four races are going to get it done yes but I think well obviously Legion they’ve won twice they can do it all rightn John ROMs caddy Adam Hayes was kind enough to wear a microphone yesterday so let’s listen in to some sounds of the round from day one yeah I us just a straighter N9 iron I think it’s you know 40 little more than 40 closer to 45 that’s yep how do I get safe birdie D way putt that boy good putt there my man well six yeah I I don’t hang on just a second let’s let’s take our time here we got I think it is I think it’s kind of switching coming off this way just a little bit so yeah love it yep I mean it’s it’s really whatever you want I mean the drivers will be should be on a maybe a little bit of a down slope so the three assures it for being maybe a little bit more level yeah the whole first half of the grain the you know the grain’s into you so if this thing flies anywhere around the hole even just pass it should stop fairly quickly okay front number a lot of ways to make four funny things I was down there I’m like man pretty clear break that behind the scenes access you don’t really see engulf at all especially with guys like John ROM who let us get into what do you think about it I think I mean it’s awesome it really sets the coverage of these guys and the stars that they are uh sets set apart from anything else you’ve ever seen that and the fact that they all have their own social channels that they’re in control of is a huge asset what about the cleats here’s Martin K there is no reason why kimer couldn’t figure into things Richard Bland bandemonium C samoya that was terrific from Adrian we do everything right it’s just a matter of time that it will pay off ladies and gentlemen C’s GC it felt like yesterday was click’s Day Jerry uh those guys were on fire ADR seemed so Calon collected in the post show but yesterday was a celebration of bland demonium and yesterday ended his streak an alltime record streak 40 rounds in a row counting for his team he didn’t count yesterday Richard Bland the weak odd man out that’s just doesn’t seem right okay so so let’s break this down Jerry why are the cleaks playing so well here well you got a resurgent Martin kimer a guy with I mean obviously an incredible resume even though he hasn’t won in 10 years anywhere in 10 years he’s blown some leads but he shot 700 yesterday he’s healthy again he’s starting to play like the Martin kimer Evol that brought him to major championships you got again I keep saying this the reigning DP world to a European to a player of the year in Adrien Morag who’s been a bit streaky in his professional career in general but uh he’s playing well right now he has that ability to go out there and win any one of these events and you got the unknown factor in cie simoya who many of us didn’t know very well until he got his uh his place in the league through the promotions event in Abu Dhabi and I know he fits in well with the team they love him and uh from Finland and he’s playing he’s a good good player good solid player journeyman type career until he got here and this is an opportunity of a lifetime that he does not want to waste we have the cleaks on the Range kimer said in his press conference I feel like I’ve been getting better and better and better since Hong Kong my question to you Jerry is when things start to click what is the best thing you can do as a player to keep that going you know he’s been through it he’s been through every facet of the game mentally and physically that you possibly could what does know that he can draw upon is he has the ability to get it done he knows he can win golf tournaments he knows he can win at the highest stage uh he’s genetically blessed he’s got one of the prettiest golf swings in the world and he I mean could easily be a GQ model if he wanted to be the guy is just absolutely genetically best but he did some things yesterday better than he’s done all season long and we’re going to take a look at some of the St statistical categories that stood out from his round yesterday compared to what he has done all season you called it Jerry let’s pull up some stats of Martin kimer uh beautiful day he had yesterday it was so much fun to watch we have the cleaks here on the Range here we go and now when I look at this I got questions so Jerry before I even ask the questions help us understand what are we looking at here break these numbers down it’s a lazy Susan graphic I love this one but the one at the bottom most prominent there short approaches that’s basically wedge game inside 125 yards season long he’s worse than middle of the pack yesterday yday he was fourth on the green putting strictly putting 46 for the season almost last 15th yesterday very very very respectable then in a number of other categories he did he was extremely good in his well off the te 39th you see that up that spinning around that way I just got dzy 39th Strokes gained off the T par 3s fifth yesterday par 3es here are the secret to this golf course if you hear Dom talk about it they’re collectively the hardest category of holes out here and uh he’s just I mean he’s it’s the hardest part for Martin kimer right now is to be able to believe that he can win again after a 10year drought he knows he’s got the skills everybody knows he’s got the skills he kind of Wonder at times if maybe the game has passed you by with the with the strength of Youth now and how far they’re hitting the golf ball he still moves it out there plenty good he’s always been more about Precision than power uh but I think he needs to be able to somehow convince himself that he can still win because you’re not human if those doubts don’t create creep into your mind in that 10year dry spell he lost a 10 shot lead and a seven shot lead late in two different tournaments and that also creat a mental luggage yeah Martin kimr was asked about the US Open and he said I don’t want to think about that right now I want to finish my business here uh do you think when things like the US Open are on the horizon is it hard for a guy to focus on the now yeah yeah I mean absolutely I know you you’re well versed in so many other sports yes you cannot help but not think about it the good news for Martin kimer is in this age where Scotty Sheffer is number one where you have John ROM you have Bryson the Shambo who nearly won the first two majors Sixth and a second and he contended in both Xander shafley and the way he played at the PJ um and all the other stars from here and the PJ T are get together he’s going to be able even if he wins here and he wins here dominantly he’s still going to be able to pretty much fly under the radar he’ll get some attention for being you know the champion 10 years ago there but not much he can still fly to the radar and focus on what he needs to do to give himself the best chance to be competitive and maybe do the unthinkable and pull off another win next week another guy who had a big day yesterday one shot back from the leading score Kevin n uh who was so much fun to watch yesterday my question to you Jerry is thoughts on his day and thoughts on what he’ll do today my question will he continue this oh yeah throughout this weekend and why well because he he is an overachiever and that’s the shortest list in profession professional golf the world of professional golf you lose way more often than you win and uh you look at the physical skills and I always going to kill me for saying this but that’s okay um he’s an overachiever he gets the most out of his game every single day of anybody I’ve ever met and it’s awesome to watch he’s got so much grit and fight it’s it’s contagious all right well let’s we’ll talk more about this but let’s check in with dom and suanne and let’s hear from what they have to say what’s up guys Martin kimer shot his lowest live round yesterday he’s looking to end a 10year windless drought he has fought through some injuries which have resulted in some lost and confidence but I think he’s slowly finding that back since Hong Kong and it certainly shined through his performance yesterday he said things are starting to fall in place for him he’s really trying to enjoy the process a little bit more I think if he keeps trending in that direction he’s going to give himself a good chance at ending that winless drought yeah it’s great to see Martin kimer playing well but s have you ever noticed that sergy Garcia’s best performances on live have come in Singapore Mexico and Miami hot places with Bermuda grass I don’t think it’s a coincidence I think Sergio putts better on Bermuda because especially into the grain he can hit his putts with more Authority he’s a reliable ball Striker led the field in driving yesterday if his putter is semi hot the next two days he’s in with a shout big thanks Don big thanks to Jerry now to you I love to ask you and I’m not going to make you pick a specific winner of the day but I do want to ask who’s on your radar individual category for day two Houston Texas P dog dogy local favorite absolutely Patrick Reed uh I just watched him warm up a little bit he is all focused he’s all business as he normally is um he played the par five the easiest scoring opportunities in any given round of golf one over par yesterday that’s not going to happen today he still played really well put together a solid round of golf I think he’s going to start as they say to use a worn out cliche clicking on all cylinders if you will as we have the Maserati sitting over there beautiful Maserati by the way beautiful Maserati but I think I think he is going to be a major factor tomorrow and the crowd will be on his side now what about the team leaderboard I know you don’t want to officially say you’re cheering for the Four Aces because you don’t want to jinx yourself they were my pick I’m not allowed to cheer they were my pick you see and I got to defend that I I I would love to see the Cs I mean everybody would love to see the cleaks come through uh because they you know they haven’t been a perennial Contender but yet they’re playing great with the addition of Adrien and Kelly samoya um but that man right there on the screen Dustin Johnson he’s not happy he’s not happy with the team performance he’s played pretty well not great pretty well he won once in Vegas um and he’s going in with his you know into of this week with half an eye on next week like so many other guys but he’s not happy with the way that team’s performed I can promise you and uh and I think I think he you know he’s a quiet leader he leads by example and when he says anything to you to try and motivate you it means about 100 times more than other people it seems like your prediction was pretty accurate yesterday when you did bring up the Four Aces uh two of their guys just phenomenal job are you sticking with that throughout this entire yeah because I know how much fight and grit Patrick uh Pat Perez has I absolutely do and and Harold Varner I mean he just he doesn’t he just doesn’t care he is going to go out there I mean he cares he cares to a point where he doesn’t care it’s almost uh oxy onic but he cares so much that he you don’t think he but he’s out there just giving it his all like you can’t believe every single
