[Music] live golf Begins the second half of its 2024 League schedule making its first ever appearance in Houston Texas here at the stunning golf club of Houston it’s day one baby Bryson D Sho makes his first start since finishing solo second at the PGA champion ship so much has happened in the last four weeks or so and we’re here to talk about it all welcome to Club 54 pre-round show I’m your host Christian Crosby and joining me is your favorite live golf analyst and my best friend forever Jerry fults Jerry I miss you I missed you it’s been four weeks to be back man yes AB wait there we go and we’re twinning now right we are you know I really think I’m starting to rub off on this guy because now it’s gotten to the point where we’re wearing the same exact clothes never the I just like the new lingo I speak now we’re TW we’re twinning me too right are weing as well we’re doing it all we got the all right uh so much has happened but first we are officially halfway through the live golf league 2024 schedule which is something to celebrate it’s been really exciting absolutely it has been there’s been a lot of great golf a lot of great team champions a lot of great individual Champions as well and we are here in Houston for the first time ever so the Lone Star State for the first time ever I know we’re going to go back again later in the year for our team championship in Dallas but this is near dear to me I have a brother and a sister who live here a lot of relatives in in Texas and a few right in the Houston area and in my first year of college was in Texas and it’s the only state in all my life that still feels like home when I visit it a it’s beautiful it’s a little hot for me but oh this is perfect I live in Orlando this the exact same Singapore San’s going to be right at home this is perfect that’s fair that’s fair now so much has happened since the last time we got to chat Jerry there’s only one word I can think about right now though bandemonium bandemonium Richard Bland doing his thing the Senior PGA Championship you have spoken so highly about him for the last 2 months or so give me your take on Richard what is going on with Richard Bland well you know there’s a whole kind of subculture of golf people out there golf fans golf addicts who love the story of Richard Bland love the story of the grinder the lifelong grinder the rags the riches story if you will who finds it later in life at 48 years old he wins his first ever sanctioned event on the DP World Tour now at 51 and playing some great golf in live Golf League for now his third straight season he wins his first ever senior major championship granted he was better prepared because of the competition against which he played week in and week out compared to the other guys but he still he went out there and won it and he won it in dramatic style and he won it obviously uh thinking of his brother Heath who’s always on his mind when he’s competing as well it’s it’s a it’s just such a great story and I’m not allowed to be a fan in my day in and day out job but I was a fan that week on my couch glued to the TV I I couldn’t agree with you more about that Jerry I know now things are getting a lot more serious here at liof League uh we’re halfway through guys are trying to clench that top spot I think Richard Bland is currently 25th 25th correct uh how important is it for a guy like him now to place at the top anybody outside the top 24 doesn’t really have a guarantee very few guys have any kind of guarantee for next year now I’d be surprised if he finished in the free agent Zone he’s almost guaranteed of finishing no worse than that that somebody didn’t pick him up for next year but again that’s not a guarantee in his mind he has to finish top 24 he’s done it two straight years right on the bubble a couple of times uh but in his mind he thinks he’s going to probably retire from competitive golf when his live golf league career comes to an end he’s not ready for that to happen yet and he’s playing too good a golf for that to happen so that pressure will mount with only 18 individual days of competition remaining that pressure mounts each passing round each passing shot and it’ll build to a huge pressure the pressure he’s faced for two straight years and he’s overcome are we going to go into another Bland demic Jerry I think so it’ll be blastic I love the Bland AB so good another guy we want to talk about Bryson Des Shambo finishing solo second at the PGA Championship it seems like as time progresses he gets a little better and better not only on the golf course but his brand seemed to just get stronger and stronger well you know one of the great things for him and all the others too in joining Liv is they have a much greater control of their media rights and he’s allowed to do things that he wasn’t allowed to do before things he’s always wanted to do to grow that brand he’s growing the game of golf in his own way more than just about any other individual player from a brand awareness standpoint I’ve got a new nickname for him though and he’s not going to like it he hadn’t heard it yet he is now b o d Shambo box office everybody’s calling him box office including Padre Harrington you know all the people said golf misses Bryson no golf doesn’t miss Bryson he’s been here all along he’s still played in the majors and he’s playing live golf league PJ T certainly misses the draw of Bryson to Shambo and he is he is awesome now he finish six the master second at the PGA and he said he wasn’t even playing that well that week he just happened to have a hot putter so he said he’s figured some things out since he’s playing in his home state now you can’t discount him this week I would love to hear your take just on his approach to starting a digital Empire I think he really understand TR is an Empire isn’t it big time I mean you see the views on his YouTube page oh yeah I do yeah I I I I think it’s important especially in in today to to be active on social media it gives a chance for the fans to feel closer to you but it also grows the game I you’ve spoken to him on your podcast before about this what fastic well you know what he’s he’s just smart uh and if he’s not as smart as he thinks he is he certainly can fool me um because he he just thinks of things that other guys don’t now you see a lot of guys kind of riding the cail starting their own YouTube channels starting their team’s own YouTube channels and trying to hop on that bandwagon and I mean that potential is still unknown is still untapped who knows how big that can get and he’s at the Forefront of it and I think it’s absolutely brilliant he’s not just box office he’s also man of the people Bryson Des Shambo went viral uh a little earlier this week he approached a fan who stole a ball from a kid and here it is Jerry let’s talk about this Mo cuz this this doesn’t look stage at all this looks like a real moment here no there are guys who will do something when they know a camera’s there to make themselves look like a hero that was just pure Instinct right there he threw a ball to the kid during the final round when he’s buying for his second major championship some other guy older guy reaches out grabs it away in front of the kid and runs off and Bryson wasn’t going to have any part of it there were people who might not have been a fan you’ve heard from a lot of them through social a fan of Bryson the Shamel before that who are now huge fans well Jerry you know I’m from Philly I love real moments we see stuff like this happen in my city all the time but I love to see that on Bryson we love that for you Bryson all right for the first time in golf history Liv X is giving fans a chance to choose which work harder to make sure we can take down those trophies again if you look at a guy that’s that was young and and great and and hadn’t one it was probably y a stunning show of character from wacky nean yeah I mean I’m going to keep pushing myself and try to win every tournament I play on to try to win uh it’s impressive to see what he’s done and I’m sure he’s going to give us a run for our money for sure we have a lot more depth this year than than we’ve ever had but obviously there’s there’s some top guys that you got to go through no matter what Brendon steel what a performance I thought Ste getting a win was was pretty cool obviously super happy for him he’s a great guy whether it’s Waco or Abe you know guys that have been out here for a couple years now that hadn’t won yet it was just m time before their time you know to win was going to happen it do it baby the guys that we knew could do it they were never guys that were kind of in the rear Vision mirror it does show the depth and the competitiveness of who we’re playing against every week Dean bur has won a battle royale it definitely made me feel like I belonged out here you know it was one of my goals when I came this way was to win one of these soaking up the moment it’s going to be a fun end of the season [Applause] season as you can see it’s a beautiful day out here in Houston Texas so much to talk about in just a few moments right here with Jerry [Music] FS all right Jerry we got to talk standings we’ll start we’ll start with team standings first so many storylines so many teams discuss let’s pull up this team leaderboard in our standings and and and take a look I I got to get your take I want to bring up Ripper GC who is back to back right now can they three repat here in Houston Texas is it possible I don’t know anybody who’s going to bet against them smart money certainly wouldn’t but it is Crushers GC led by Bryson to Shambo at the top Legion with two wins also this year ahead of Ripper and then torque there in fourth without a win this year now remember the top three teams get that first round by at the end of the year that’s huge you get a day off uh in Dallas later in the year and that can be enormous uh when all is said and done but they’re all I mean there’s when you see the te’s the open to our show today done by Roger Clemens you’ll see it kind of sends shivers down your spine how important this second half of the season is because none of that matters now Golf and all sports are what have you done for me lately what are you going to do today and the rest of the year is there a team on this list here that maybe isn’t in the top five that we haven’t discussed too much that you think Under Pressure will rise to the top here rad it’s just blaring at me down there in 10th Place Four Aces the once Dynasty the early Dynasty our original New York Yankees of Liv golf down in 10th place you know they have Dustin Johnson playing well this year really well nobody else on their team is above 30th in the points including Houston resident Patrick Reed who is overdue like a cheap library book for his first win I think I I honestly I picked him to finish last this week because I always pick him to win or play well and he hasn’t played that well this year so I’m doing reverse psychology with my man right now I love that for you Jerry let’s see if it works shall we all right let’s take a look at the individual standings here there are so many storylines to discuss Waco Neiman who just seems to always do everything right here at Li Golf League uh what do you when you see this this uh leaderboard take us through it Jerry what you looking at those two back toback wins you we were there for uh just stood out and that really set him apart early John ROM without a win but also hasn’t finished worth worse than 10th Place through the first seven events you don’t know you can’t I don’t think I could describe how badly he wants to get that first win because I think what he does the floodgates will open Lou usas in he just is consistently day in and day out right there every single time Brooks kka always his entire career he’s been a streaky player and Abraham aner with that win down in Hong Kong Oh my he just dissected that Golf Course to pieces now last year’s uh individual Champion Taylor gu eighth place um I don’t know if you look at his previous body of work before joining the P before joining Liv Golf and say that’s about where you know a good player should be player his stature in his mind that’s not where he should be and in my mind that’s not where he should be either well a guy here at 11th Terrell Hatton uh how would you say his game will line up specifically on this course well that is interesting that you ask as it turns out because uh I as you know I like to delve into all the data and all analytics and I get on the calls with these Geniuses from all over the world on a zoom call and discuss them all and they come up with key metrics for each course now this one you have a little more data for because it hosted the PJ tour for so long publicly available data to see what the key metrics are for this course even though it’ll play quite a bit differently and he comes out in the top of almost every key metric this week does Terell Hatton as you see on our Lazy Susan graphic like we like to call it there we go more long approach shots over 225 yards percentage wise than any course they play this year also more short approach shots he’s fourth in both uh not a lot of medium approach shots although he’s really solid there this course doesn’t have a very high uh Fairway Mist value meaning Strokes gained uh Strokes lost basically when you miss a fairway compared to the field so um well it actually does have a high one it doesn’t have a high distance uh shot distance value if you will the longer you hit it the the better you’re going to play it doesn’t have a actually has quite a low one so keep it in the Fairway hit the greens there aren’t a lot of scary up and downs out there if you miss the green he’s really solid at that I like his chances but he is not my pick we’ll get to that in a minute he’s not your well my first question before we get into your pick he’s 11th now yeah is this a guy who we’ll see as time progresses in the top 10 potentially you know we have 30 guys who should be top 10 players at least 30 guys who should be top 10 players so it’s so hard to say that but I absolutely think he will finish this year in the top 10 and he’s not your pick you’re saying no no no no no no we’ll get to that I got great reasoning for it you seem excited about this all right before we get into your pick let’s first check in with dom and suan who’s your pick Dom suan Hae nean is my pick this week Dom because this is a great Golf Course for him he’s playing some of his best golf but really what golf course isn’t good for haen and as for team I’m going to go with tqu I got to talk with Carlos Ortiz to get a real inside into the tqu camp they’re all best friends They’re all playing for each other and that says something well keem’s a good pick I’m following him today suan so I’ll keep you updated on phone how he’s doing but my pick’s John Ram I mean we’re halfly through through the season seven events in he’s not won who would have thought that certainly not me this call suits him well he’s he’s a great player he’s playing good golf and for the team I’m going with Ripper for a three p m I like that all right thank you for those picks Waco Neeman John ROM couldn’t argue with you there guys Jerry are you agreeing with one of them or do you have someone completely different let me check Su an shot my pick’s gr McDow the only guy who can hear us right now no uh I’m not I those are both great picks and you can’t argue with them like I said there’s 30 40 guy guys out here that could win each and every week but my pick this week is last year’s individual champion this course Taylor also Taylor G also shows up very well in the key metrics on this course he’s been trending in the right direction he is isn’t a player who has really good weeks and really bad weeks he kind of steadily goes up sometimes steadily declines but he’s and he’s consistently shown Improvement this year and a lot of the key metrics that matter this week Taylor G and I know we’re not doing teams but four aces are going to get it done this week they’re just going to okay all right I like the picks this week Jerry all right we’re going to get into a poll as you know we do a poll each and and he’s playing in pants he and calebs are at today now would you say for the I think we have five live golf league players who have won here at this course and at this course would you say that gives any of those guys any level of edge you know they used to play this the week before the Masters and they do a lot of course preparation to kind of try and simulate some Masters condition shave down the edges of the greens and stuff and it was always firmer it’s pretty soft this week because of the early week rains and the and the typical weather in this part of the country this time of the year so I don’t think it gives hardly any advantage to them quite actually and even even a guy like Patrick Reed Hometown nothing you’d say well Hometown absolutely he plays in this stuff all the time and now he has more time off than he ever had before and he’s practicing in this all the time and here’s some social action going on here live golf Houston prediction Patrick Reed picks up his first live win are you are you on board with a storyline like this J no he’s finishing last I told you he’s finishing 54th I told you reverse psychology I pick him so often oh I mean I’m a fan of the kid obviously when I’m doing my job I can’t I can’t be that way on TV I got to be unbiased but I’m a fan of him I’m a fan I think he’s one of the most misunderstood people in professional golf and genuinely a nice and funny guy when you’re around him at the PGA Championship the guy kind of mocked him by walking up to him to ask him to sign a Rules book because he’s had some rules issues in the past to sign a rules of golf book and Patrick just laughed and he thought it was hilarious the guy he is genuinely one of those guys you do not ever uh get tired of being around I have another compelling story we didn’t touch on today Anthony Kim who seems to just be improving as time progresses does he have any shot at top 24 am I crazy for saying that Jerry I think a lot of people would say yes I think a lot the expert in me says absolutely that he you’re crazy for thinking that it’s impossible he took 12 years off but he’s Anthony Kim he no it’s never been done what he’s trying to do he is more motivated that at any point in his entire life more single-mindedly focused than any point in his entire life and in the LA in the last month says I mean even Dom watched some videos and said man that guy’s gained some speed he’s gained 30 yards off the te uh The Game’s new to him so it’s a quick learning curve but I wouldn’t be shocked if he had a couple of top 20 finishes at least in the next few weeks I know you got to go to the main show Jerry any final thoughts as we enter into day one here in Houston Texas final thoughts final no I I I just enjoy it the fans have showed up in great number numbers I know hospitality is actually sold out for round one that never happens there’s still some grounds available but not a lot same on the weekend it’s uh it’s going to be a great showing here in the Lone Star State known for the hospitality I absolutely love it here I can’t wait to get started I can’t wait to P it out thanks brother there you go Jerry FS got to love it uh suit a lot of the other players in the field I I think it’s it’s wide open you know the field and the golf course you know very wide Fairways I think the heat is going to be a major concern for some of them you know we’re going to we’re looking at 110 uh heat index but you know from the guys that are you know in the South you know not so bad but they played the Shale Houston open here for so many years I think you’re right you know it’s uh you these guys are familiar with it and uh we should see low scoring because of that yeah and it’s getting to a really important part of the Season as well with the top three places up for grabs individually we’ve got the lock Zone to play for and the dreaded drop zone as well and RI a GC look out for these guys the Aussies going for three team wins in a they given you any insights to the course yes they have yes they have we played the back nine on Wednesday and there was definitely some useful tips which was awesome right I’ll let you get ready also
