a question that I’ve gotten asked since I’ve started social media is how do I release the club my response is always kind of iffy because there are multiple ways to do it and a lot of different feels for it you could go down the range of the US Open in a couple weeks ask 10 players how they release the golf club and I guarantee you all of them would have a different answer it might look pretty similar but some guys may describe a feel in their left wrist other guys may describe a feel in their right another guy might not even have a feel for it at all and he just feels like he rotates his body through and lets the club release naturally so I picked out two players that are on completely opposite ends of the Spectrum Matthew Fitzpatrick up top Colin morawa down low two obviously unreal players that do it very very differently so let’s focus in on the grip at first a lot of what we’re going to be looking at is what’s happening with their left hand so first things first is Matt Fitzpatrick has an extremely strong left hand grip kind of like that motorcycle we can’t quite see the crease that he creates between his thumb and the base of his hand but if we had to guess it’d be somewhere in there behind the trail shoulder even and morawa is super weak so crease for him is more at his lead shoulder that is going to be causing the difference in their release um and it’s going to be pretty obvious as we go through the swing so we’ll start up top with Matt Fitzpatrick get him going back and we’ll notice he almost has a cupping motion for his release so he gets a little bit cued at the top and then as he gets down to about left arm parallel you can see if we had to take a guess the logo of his glove on his left hand we pointing towards his head now we get into Colin we’re going to see a big difference at this point in the golf swing bowed down to left arm parallel and his left wrist is pointing almost back behind him right whereas Matts is pointing at his head get him keep going down with Matt Fitzpatrick up top get to about this point here his left his logo is still pointing up towards the sky up towards his head whereas Collins is going to start to point towards the ground down towards the ground almost toward the camera and then it’s very very flat at impact for Matt he gets to impact and it’s still kind of pointing up towards the sky kind of towards the camera whereas Collins is all the way towards the target pointing at the Target as he goes on through and then Matt looks like that as he goes on through so the differences in their release pattern is definitely caused by how on opposite ends of the spectrum their grip is um but this I think is just a really good visual to show you there’s not one way to do it two of these guys both major Champions Colin morau obviously one of the best ball Strikers in the world Matt Fitzpatrick great ball Striker too so just goes to show there’s not one way to do it there’s a lot of ways to release the club and it is 100% personalized depending on how you grip it and what feels work for you um so if you’re struggling to get a proper feel I’d experiment with a couple different grips uh and just a couple different ideas on how you want to feel that club release but just know that there’s not one textbook way to do it there’s multiple multiple ways to try it out so hope this video was a good visual and helpful for you but otherwise really appreciate you watching thanks
