the demons feel the heat after an unacceptable performance and they’re not the only ones with the crows also coming under Fire the Suns Storm Into the top eight are the cats back and should there be a round in fourth place they’ve plummeted all the way to 10th lyy take us through just how Foo was so dominant in this game one thing I’ve always admired about Melbourne whether they win or they don’t is their competitive nature so they’ve always been nice and tough and ruthless and competitive particularly in the Midfield but that wasn’t there yesterday it was as bad a performance as I’ve seen under Simon Goodwin and this is just one example I could have shown from a center bounce where they was smash so Alex Neil bullan how strong do you want to be over the footy opposed to Hayden young Falls over doesn’t really you want to get strong in his legs and be strong and then Hayden young gets the ball out to Frederick who kicks a goal so that was where they’ll really pour around Clearance Center bounce and then it was their inability to want to chase Jack vony has a broken tackle we don’t normally see that from Jack vony and then you got May and all these guys McDonald who want to set up behind the footy you can’t really do that if you’re non-competitive at clearance you’re non-competitive uh in terms of your running capacity so this just went on all day so we’ve got these players behind the ball who love to play the way they want to play where they want to guard territory but that is useless that it does nothing for you if there’s no pressure on the ball carrier so this went on time and time again players in holes but that’s all good and well when there’s pressure further a field but it wasn’t this was a mark a bit like abet Senor probably shouldn’t have been paid this one but uh I looked at the end of it all and look at these two they just stare at each other there’s a bit of blame game going on all looking at each other saying you should have done this you should have done that as bad and as damning a performance as you’ll ever see from an AFL team wanting to be a Premiership team how much of an out are you giving them for Jake L’s absence uh minimal minimal because uh this was all about effort um something was not right there yesterday something certainly wasn’t right and Simon GN their coach touched on it after the game that’s about as performance as you can get and it’s one we certainly won’t tolerate you know there’s inconsistencies in our game that um you know that trend’s been there for a little while now and we understand there’s elements within our method that aren’t right but the inconsistencies not only from week to week are are concerning and we’ll look into the why because that performance is clearly completely unacceptable in where we want to be as a team he went on to say you’ve got to let it hurt and then you’ve got to respond King’s birthday Clash demo is upon us that’s what they’ve got in a week’s time against Collingwood can you see them coming back from this because that was massive yeah but we have under Simon Goodwin’s watch since they’ve got it become a good football club they have responded so I’m prepared to forgive them the Badness of yesterday provided it is response and they do get a vulnerable Callingwood from an injury perspective as well so I’m just going to hold on on what it means in the big picture but equally take the the warning signs out of it because they’re really bad and Well on a freem Manel too now I just want to touch on so so on that King’s birthday it’s 9th V10 so a lot at stake for both teams but well done the free Manel I I thought in the draw against Collingwood apart from the last three four goals they were so disappointing but that is that is as good a footy as they could have played they played the perfect game do you think they’re the real deal well I’m now going to look back at that freem Manel Collingwood draw where they kick the last four goals and I was I was probably reflectively critical of of how they got themselves 25 points down but in that last seven minutes they kick four goals they them taken that style of play into the very next first moment of their next game has to become their Benchmark there I can see him as a top eight side but not a Premiership side and a is kicking for and throw guys kicking three well yeah their line got it together um but whether they can do that on a consistent basis for the second half of the Season remains to be seen well Gold Coast remain unbeaten at home this season with an 11-point win over a second place Essen and it was an arm wrestle loyy this game and in the fourth quarter the Midfield of the Suns stood up they did really well the Suns cuz I thought in the first quarter the bombers were red hot I think the bombers you left too many out there they should have been three or four goals up but when it was there to be one these special players and I call them special Matthew ra is special Noah Anderson is special you know they got King now who’s equal to Miller is a special player you’d love to have Tuk Miller you running down the race alongside you that’s how good he is but they won the big moments late uh and they deserve the win and I’ve been hard on them uh as we all have been but I feel like no matter what happens it seems like they’re on the right track here I think that um whether it’s this year or it’s next year I’m starting to come around of the fact that uh it’d be an exciting time to be part of the Suns with where they’re heading D the big challenge for them is actually winning on the road now yeah it is I mean and it’s it’s just no hiding away from that they haven’t won on the road this year they didn’t win on the road in the back half of last year and it’s still a problem for them um equally with lordy I love what they did in the last 15 minutes of that game that game was there for essendon to to win despite them also struggling at stages of it and they they responded in a good way they play the Saints at Marvel this week so this is the time to turn up to Marvel and win and win well h talk about Ben long because in round 10 against North Melbourne Damen Hardwick switches him forward permanently and since then he hasn’t look back four goals in his 100th game it was pretty good wasn’t it it was and as part of that sequence of matches that you’re referring to n he also played that negating role on Tom Stewart which has almost become a a new blueprint for clubs to to play jalong and he still kicked two goals in playing that role and yesterday cashed in with the four and they needed him with every one of those four goals yesterday the way that game was being played but it’s a love it when someone finds a spot and it’s meaningful within a team Dynamic yeah 10 goals from four games for Ben long just to touch on the bombers briefly lyy they didn’t lose any respect they didn’t really lose anything yesterday did they no no they’d be disappointed because they come back to the pack a little bit in terms of that top four position but yeah they they were pretty good the suns are hard to beat we’ve fasted forward to Sunday night now against Carlton this is where the Caron’s runs started they were remember they booed off the park against the bombers this time last year I feel like Carlton are ready now like in terms of um for a Premiership I don’t think the bombers are there just yet so I expect Carlton if they’re going to win this Premiership just turn up on Sunday night and take care of the bombers okay we’ll delve a little deeper into the blues and why you think they are ready for a Premiership in just a moment but the Hot Topic this week of course is going to be the rising star and the eligibility I guess and whether fness should play a part because Sam Darcy and Harley Reed two of the favorites for this award D are now out of the running do you think there should be a fairness element to this award no I don’t and I felt that since basically 1994 and that when Cory mckernan for for reasons similar to what these two guys are now going to be experiencing some 28 years later also lost the rising star he had a hand tripping element to that now the Sam Darcy contact Lotto that’s a footy act and that’s always going to be suspended under the history of the game but the sling tackle of Harley Reed that’s a new charge it’s it’s a three-year-old new charge isn’t it even two years ago he may not be charged with that yeah but but I’m glad he can’t win it under his current criteria but but why no fairness for the rising star I just feel that with it you don’t need it and the rules have changed and and the AFL has changed its own system so I think it’s going to be a really flat night when when one of Sam Dary and Harley Reed don’t win this award we’re going to look back in in 2024 and see a name who at the moment is lesser than those to I agree with that but I think that’s just the the rules unfortunately both players have done things that they should have done and and it takes them out of it so who wins it is it ironic that maybe it is Darcy Wilson case yeah it could be look I still like Ry Sanders opportunity to now we don’t know he spent time in the vfl he’s learned from that he’s now back in the team he’s got half a season of footy to to reconfirm he’s you know a lot the status that he started the year with who do you like uh well OE Dempsey from jalong I also think is a special player so it’s pretty pretty wide open holding the ball of course we discussed it at nauseum last week have we found the interpretation didn’t change dam I’ll start with you what did you see on the weekend look this is my take on it the first two matches out of the seven on the weekend just gone I liked it by the end of the seven games including the S and then Gold Coast game I was probably more confused and it it does now make me wonder lordo and and that we’ve had 11 rounds of footy which have been won and lost on a certain style of requirement from the AFL system it’s a refresh and it’s a fresh start now uh the ladder has been shaped to this point you’re going to need to be a different team to win matches now with these new adjudications I think point you made which Travis spoke spoke before the change and said I’ve never been so confused I like the idea that of where they’re trying to get to but the last thing we want is confusion again so about you know how hot some umpires are some games they’re less hot other games that’s the last thing we want either way coach to play yeah and the way you coach to play and you prepare for a season you have 11 rounds of that season and now you it’s just torn up again I’m with you I like the change but I I do have a concern over over being mid-season yeah it it is interesting it’s going to take a really long adjustment period I I think really till we probably won’t see it until next year I think it’s half a season’s Too Short um to train that okay let’s talk about Carlton we’ll go back to them and they kicked eight goals in the final term to power home against Port Adelaide and Patrick Crips was immense in this final quarter he kicked two of those eight goals and lyy just talk me through what you saw here from the blues that you really like oh the big boys got to work yeah coning uh the the new Ruckman without pit net got to work and then Walsh was huge all night Crips had been quiet and then he just dominated the last quarter he taught a few guys a lesson Zach Williams has been a revelation forward I think weering just is the General in defense you know mavin pushing forward so they just did what a good side should do they made an absolute statement I was disappointed in them against the swans the way they just probably looked like they was uh pedestrian in terms of a lack of leg speed but I thought they showed the golf between Port aday and Carlton where Carlton are a top four side I think Porter a bottom four of the eight side uh and I just love when good sides make statements the way Caron did they just banged the desk and said you know let’s go port and Port couldn’t go with them so when you say they’re now a Premiership Contender they’re the real deal is it because they just seem like a really complete side is that what you’re seeing I I like the transition I don’t think say from the bombus perspective you don’t come from nowhere and win a premise ship you need to knock on the door so Carlton’s experience of the fou years of two years ago then winning a couple of finals last year getting to a prelim this is the Premiership build you from those experiences and then they win games like that on Thursday night so I just feel like Voss is coaching really well and the players seem to be all in and there’s not too many weaknesses on Port Adelaide their forward line seems to be a weakness at the moment it’s just inconsistent I mean Mitch georgiadis kicks four goals I’m not sure is he the answer to their woes and does Ken hinley need to make a big call on Charlie Dixon if I was Ken I’d say to Charlie you’re going to go with the fitness staff and have a month and just do conditioning agility speed see if we can try and get you to cuz he’s getting around like on one he’s banged up I don’t think he’s going to get agility at the age of 32 but you can try and sharpen him up a bit not send him out there like he’s on his last legs every time play and then see what Marshall and georgiadis can do say guys this is your forward line for the next month and can that take us further than what Dixon and the others is doing so the bulldog are in touch with the top eight after beating the pies and we’ve spoken a lot about Sam Darcy’s performance and bonon P but the defense was also impressive Doo yeah it was that and it’s it’s often been a I suppose an area of concern for the Bulldogs and and I had my doubts when they brought Liam Jones back in as a 32y old I’m wrong on that I mean he is standing up and look the perseverance with o odonnell is there frasers come through it’s a it’s a part of their game now that that is actually equally as crucial to what they’re now doing in the revamp m field Nick deos had 18 touches six center bounce clearances two goals at half time and then hary Gallagher goes to him lyy in the second half and really negated him at the center clearance in we’ll talk soon about what they did to stop Harley Reed but Doos lost his effect and and some of this you might go oh it doesn’t look like much but it’s just they’re stopping him from getting on the burst and the charge you can’t allow it so this just bondon P just keeping from from getting on the Burst when you see this Lord and you explain exping what they’re doing why has he been allowed to roam free for most of his time as a midfielder day yeah yeah I think he’s you got to give him credit he just is one of the hardest working players the most professional players I’ve ever seen but what he’s not is big he’s not a big player so if you can keep constant touch on him hold him away from getting to the ball particularly around the contest you stop Callingwood to the mo sorry so the moment they stopped his Center clearance work the whole game changed at quarter time collingwood’s experience obviously we know their injury issues I think we feel like maybe they’ve reached the Tipping Point D and they can’t really afford too many missteps in the second half of the Season no they can’t that um obviously having not lost between round three and the weekend um was was significant but two of those results were draws so they’re not cashing in on the winds and I feel now the injury toll is catching up with them um again we need to see what they do on Monday against Melbourne but yeah there’s concerns now and it’s an injury injury tall which may ultimately affect whether they actually even make the finals on Saturday night it was jalong who defeated the tigers by 30 points they smashed him in the final turn but the Tigers had their number in the first half L yeah this was to me like um as alarming as as some of their losses yeah right yeah so even though they won the game it was alarming so I’m so used to seeing jalong behind the ball organized set up you know supporting each other but they were all at Sea from a decimated Richmond team who moved the ball quickly applied a lot of pressure and they were so close to again losing another game at home so yeah they look like they’re getting further and further away from from being the challengers despite where they still sit on the ladder 8 and four in a great spot still but not playing great for be a big test because they faced sydne theg this weekend so I think on Sunday we’ll learn a little bit more about jalong now the Hawks lost the first five games of the Season they’re now won five of their past seven they are in red hot form and this is just a look at I guess their Improvement lyy in this space yeah they improved everywhere so as a Midfield side you know I remember talking about what’s wrong with John yukim and and have they got the Midfield will days made a massive difference the next Superstar or he’s already a superstar the next Captain I feel he’s made the biggest difference Lord I don’t want to oversimplify what they’re doing because there’s some good roles being played by a lot of good players but he has just sharpened them up in the Midfield and it’s allowed n nuken wasn’t getting a kick in that in that you know vernacular way of footy until will day came yeah I remember the go Coast game he hardly touched at Nukem and behind the ball now they look so good you know they look really set behind the ball and once they win it back they are just Off to the Races work so hard for each other and and pretty Dynamic forward line for the aday crows it was an extremely disappointing performance this was their coach Matthew Nicks extremely disappointing probably more so the way the way we played in that first half that’s as bad as we played all year and there’s no excuse for that we haven’t had good results here but we’ve walked off reasonably proud of what we put out there today is not one of those days at all so that’s damning to to have that as an assessment and to have that as a performance they have blown this season up at the halfway stage and they’ll probably go back to Adelaide do a number on Richmond on Thursday night and sort of half feel good about themselves again but they just do not stand up when the pressure is at their absolute highest and it’s now been two years of that I know there’s been some Misfortune as part of that narrative net but this year they just have not performed with that expectation put a line through them both of you now for the finals yes not yet but uh they’re not going to impact at a high end if they continue that that sort of rubbish they dished up on the weekend all right so the Saints notched up their fourth win with five goals to two in the fourth term and Mason wood he is our crypto.com bold play this week because the Saints trailed by 11 points early in the fourth Max King subbed out with a knee injury and lyy he goes forward and kicks three of his four goals in the last quarter teams can play all all week for Max King and then once it’s just it’s a different forward line just for a quarter or so can throw things out and Mason wood it’s it’s great to see where a player can be delisted by the worst team in the competition a number of years ago and then bob up and be a match winner for another club he’s a pretty talented player Mason wood so Harley Reed had 17 disposals and six clearances at half time the second term he just blew St kilder away this was Ross Lion at half time coming out of the break thought Harley Reed lit him lit him out with about six or seven clearances and 12 so we’ll put time into him um windhager will sort of match him up and try and quieten him I love a response in game and for Ross to acknowledge that publicly effectively by by giving that interview and then to watch his plan unfold the way didant windhager it could be season turning for the individual in Wind haager’s case equally it could be for Sina to get back to something that resembles 2023 form where they made a Finals series they needed to do something the season was slipping away way they did it well done and Harley Reed will need to get used to a little bit of attention he looked frustrated didn’t he yeah yeah and um you know it’s disappointing in terms of from West Coast that you know the Ross Lions says I we’re going to go after a nine or 10 game player because he’s their best player already yo was still solid but um full credit to Harley Reed that he’s earned the respect from the opposition already that they have to go after him speaking of respect I’ve got none for myself after the crypto.com leaderboard when it comes to tipping I
