Ludvig Åberg shoots 4-under 68 | Round 1 highlights | the Memorial

In the opening round of the 2024 Memorial presented by Workday, Ludvig Åberg carded a 4-under 68 to sit two shots off the lead.

The PGA TOUR returns to Jack Nicklaus’ Muirfield Village Golf Club this week for the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, the seventh Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule this season. The best players will be in Ohio this week with all of the FedExCup’s top-10 in the field. Viktor Hovland defends his title and looks to become the first player since Tiger Woods to repeat at the Memorial. Hovland, who is the reigning FedExCup champion, returns to action after his third-place finish at the PGA Championship – his best result of 2024. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler also tees it up again this week. Scheffler, who finished second at the Memorial last season, has continued his run of dominance through 2024 over the last few weeks. Scheffler has finished outside the top-10 just once this season and has gone 1-1-T2-1-1-T8-T2 in his last seven starts. Rory McIlroy also tees it up in Ohio this week after his tie for fourth at the RBC Canadian Open last week. McIlroy has five top-10s in 12 starts at Muirfield Village. Others to look out for include Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Ludvig Åberg.

what talent this guy has little right as well meets it to turn over carbon copy but really this is an absolute go and it’s turning right to left just a touch behind it y nicely done right over the flag yeah the wind has come up we got some cloud cover but this is downhill going to work left to right there’s an old Cup in his line I think left edge of that well M ran it right over the left Edge and makes the P we had a great look great fall great stroke from the 24y old man his a scent trying to make a cut trying to force something to happen but you really just take it down the corridor of the fway shefflers is good o Bergs also good hops over some debris there you sit there and you are I I I can’t influence the outcome here especially with mud on the ball 40 yds left and far enough left to be safe now oberg better get the contact right oh he didn’t even touch a blade of grass that’s beautiful just didn’t quite get the spin he [Applause] wanted oberg ready that was a really nice up and down not terrible chance to save par now oberg back on the T this down the left needs to hang on oh no not over there okay some thick rough there with water protecting this screen nine trying to feather something in there but you’re looking to get something over that front left bunker it come out wellow 146 come out way left though yeah that’s your disaster over there with everything we’ve seen previously certainly can get the club and B you’re really looking to try to land this short of the green but no he’s taking this on be careful got any it’s going to be okay okay it’s going to be pretty good yeah that’s uh it’s actually quite well done to be honest with you you see the shot feel the shot hit the shot oh yes indeed like that had to pick the putter up slightly to get above the the cut of rough and uh hit down on it but still able to get a beautiful roll and Y closer ball slightly above his feet but also some mud on the golf ball this a little bit further out to the right man that ball settles so h of about a 25 ft there for birdie see if he can get back and get the bounce back and ludig oberg Carney for birdie here at 13 going to move left to right right at the end great bounce back birdie from ludvig that’s been the difference certainly since we got to the back nine our tracing technology provided by trackman this a little bit to the right all right well it’s in the first cut but looks to be sitting all right still going to make that second shot to that back hole location a little trickier Poss a little jumper got to be a little left of the flag actually he’s taking it right on here oh boy what a shot yeah he hasn’t played this hole enough it’s exactly right Mark great point though I mean Mark he’s making his debut here yeah Berg’s going to need a little speed on this one slightly uphill going to push to his right yeah as I mentioned earlier it’s getting up well above 10 so just a layup particularly with that left hole location this up the right hand side should be okay yes but it’s swirling up here at the green if you have any spin on this the ball can spin all the way back to the front edge asking for it to go good call there Carney back here at 15 ludvig oberg for birdie going uphill there oh it took a little bounce Frank and still went in that’s how feel the CT walks three in a row there for oberg now but he was six shot lead and then tested positive on Saturday and couldn’t complete in the final a compete the final round just needs the carry here tracing technology provided by trackman it’s a 340 yd carry to carry everything he didn’t need to carry everything and that’s in the Fairway you pull it towards the middle it’s not so bad pretty much where Victor H group ahead to his entire presentation swing where he carries himself tries to let that club go right underneath that [Applause] ball and he has nerve three things you can’t teach really I he’s got some natural gifts three straight birdies home in 34 excellent start four under 68 ludvig oer it was nice to play golf um obviously this golf course is very challenging and and then it demands a lot of good golf shots and it was nice to see those obviously playing with Scotty kind of expect go golf and it’s not always nice to play with someone that’s also playing well so um it was it was a good day and hopefully we’ll be able to keep that up L when you’re playing with Scotty somebody as competitive as him just like you are I mean how much more does that kind of drive you both competitively on each B yeah I think so I mean um at the end of the day I’m doing me and and I’m not trying to be someone else um but obviously seeing good golf shuts is always nice uh it’s always nice to you know um try to try to keep up but obviously really pleased with today and and uh hopefully we’ll we’ll keep hitting good shots and and make sure that we’re right around there come Sunday did you get any mud balls today uh yeah we got a few U I think it’s just from the rain that came last night and yesterday today which which makes a lot of sense um I also felt like the green the green held up really nicely um you’ll still get that first firm kick uh coming into some of these screens and uh but yeah the f is still a little bit soft um but uh I expect it to just get firmer and firmer are you are you an expert at Mud balls you know how to hit them uh well I mean there’s only so much you can do and try to figure out if if the mud’s on the left to go right and and so much but I think you just got to take more more margins um be okay with whatever outcome happens and try to put a good swing on it you completely over the injury now uh yeah yeah I mean my knee feels good uh it’s been nice to have a couple of weeks we were just saying before that I haven’t really played that much lately um so it’s just nice today to be back playing and my first start since the PGA and then I had three weeks before that off so it’s good to be back
