lacking distance lacking accuracy and just generally all around confidence in your game let me help you get this back on track think about the shoulders keeping their relationship to the ball is vital for making repeatable consistent contact now ashwin’s asked this question here on the Channel all about the shoulders so I thought I would do this a little bit differently I’m not going to hit a single shot I’m going to give you a guide that you can literally follow along with now at home doing your Lounge doing your garden doing a little bit of free space just to check your shoulders like please just follow along and and make sure you get this right I would honestly go as far to say this is your ultimate guide for the shoulders in the golf swing and to start with we need to set up a station like this this ball has to be in the ball position for the club that you’ve got in your hand now I know we said not hitting a shot but it just makes it more I guess relevant more of a replica of what happens on the course so I’ve got eight item and that for me just sits just ahead of my sternum you’ll also notice I’ve got one golf on the ground here and I placed my second Golf Club a club head inside my trail foot this is how I need you to set up this station so maybe pause this video go and grab some golf clubs and come back to this please follow along when you’re looking down at your own feet right now that’s sort of something you should be looking for just something close to this so remember a club head inside the ball position for the club that you’ve got that’s mine with eight iron so let’s sync up the back swing the arms the body the shoulders and the shoulders are the main driver of this but looking at back swing and down swing I definitely should have said this is going to help your down swing too so I just need you to set up like this grab your golf club and don’t worry this is not something that you’ve seen before I’m just thinking if you’re doing this inside and you’re following along right now I don’t want you hitting everything at home so more the golf club pointing out your lead side just like this get into goal posture as best you can remembering the setup we spoke about earlier Club head away from you with this back golf club and the ball in the correct ball position for the club that you’ve got here this will come when we look at down swing but let’s get it right from the start so all I need to do is just check something for me right now is check how much rotation we have now I want you to just do this without moving your hips I want you just to turn your a body and the FOC should be the end of that Golf Club starting to work down somewhere over the golf ball it’s not straight down it’s not straight across it’s somewhere down towards the golf ball so something like this okay now most of us will get somewhere here with no hips okay now let’s add in some hips now you’ll notice for me I get a little bit short of there comfortably right so what I need you to do if that is you just think about flaring those feet all we need to do is have the upper body turning more than the lower body that creates an X Factor stretch I just think of this as like an Ultimate Guide to the shoulders by the way so look at my feet right here I’m going to flare them out and all that does is just give me a little bit more hip turn so now repeat that test again I want you to move the upper body no hips now add in the hips and what we’re looking for is this upper body 90 lower body roughly around 45 whereas before my hips were so tight I was somewhere here which is impacting my upper half so just get there so you’re looking at this point to have this golf club on this side of the club on the floor so get over it get this side have my spine angle slightly tilted away and I’d really recommend just doing for me eight to 12 reps working it like this and down the line it’s going to look somewhere here it’s going to look somewhere here now the reason why I’m so passionate about how these move is think about like a helicopter right the center the helicopter is so important because it keeps the propellers our arms and our golf clubs in our golf swing on plane if you think right if our shoulders are leveling and moving and we’re not moving correctly you could see why the club the club face the arms come a little bit all out of whack out of syn and that’s when you start to feel that you’re putting a lot in and not getting a lot out so first point just get the golf club on this side of the club on the floor that’s this this side this for me now is where you’re really going to start to get that power back and like you will feel different on that first age but that’s why I’m trying to improve you if it doesn’t feel different then you’re probably not doing it right if you lack turn and that feels a lot of turn that’s completely normal so we’ve got that slight shoulders down to the ground we’ve got our club working over this side of the club watch me now that is where I need you to be that that just this right here now I’m going to tell you in a second what I’m feeling there but maybe you can pick up on what I want you to get out of this now so often we all move the shoulders as a unit okay so we get over this line on the floor far too early now look what that does if I I can do this cuz I’m outside have the golf club in my hand bof in that no man’s land so all I need you to focus for me on right here is not letting this golf club go ahead of this line on the ground far too early let me repeat that again not letting this golf club go ahead of this club on the ground far too early now when you first do this you’ll really feel like you’re laying that upper half that’s fine that’s what I want I want that separation that’s your power that just delay it as long as you can delay it and it will inevitably move but just delay it as much as you can now I’m just going to move around here so you can see there’s some different angles from here you can really see that delay and this is the same with every Club from behind me right here you can really see delay and so you can from down the line all I’m focusing on is keeping that back and just trying to turn the hips that way nothing too complicated at all now at this point if you do have some space and the caveat is if you do have some space now we can start just to make some fresh air swings just make some fresh air swings bringing in both the back swing and the down swing elements so roll the golf ball to where it’s just Out Of Reach okay so you’re not going to hit it but still making sure it’s in the correct ball position I want you to hit the ground or brush the ground if you can around about where that ball is but just inside and make those feelings so back chest this side we’re leaving it there as long as we can brush the ground do these as fast or as slow as you want I’m all about getting good quality Reps for every single golfer and in my humble opinion this is exactly how now we do it now you can really see I’m bringing in every element of what I just spoke about in this follow along tutorial now this is probably the biggest piece of advice in this video when you get out on the golf course don’t think about this think about it this way if you did go to the gym you go and lift weight so over a course of time you get bigger muscles or you lose weight whatever it is right you get my point right you look at it over a period of time it improves so if you you did this for I’m going to say a minute every three days or every other day over the course of a period of time it would bleed into your swing it would slowly change so therefore on the golf course you don’t even have to think about it that is my Ultimate Guide to the shoulders in the golf swing if you did enjoy this video don’t forget to subscribe
