now if we are looking for consistent iron shots and consistent strikes just like that one I’m going to give you my favorite drill that works with pretty much every single gol for every time to make sure that we are getting that strike let’s get stuck into it before we get into this lesson though guys if you are new to the Channel please hit the Subscribe button and also why not leave me a comment Down Below on something that you might be struggling with in your game that I can help you with let’s get into the lesson and let’s all improve together so I think our main issue when it comes to ions is that our strike is inconsistent we would get toes we get heels we get thins we get fats but we never really get that consistent ball than Turf interaction and that’s because our Arc isn’t bottoming out at the right point we need to see that the low point of the Ark is actually going to be after the golf ball we want to try and hit the ball then make some contact with the ground afterwards we’re going to do this because we want to try and deliver the correct angles we want to make sure that as we meet the golf ball with our iron we want to make sure that if we’ve got a seven iron we want to be putting the appropriate Loft on it some people might be striking it nicely but thinking as well it’s not going that far like my friends are hitting it further than me I feel like I’m getting that strike but it’s coming up really short and that’s another Telltale sign and this drill will actually help you with that but like I say we want to try and see that we’re delivering the right angles and we’re making sure that we get ball and turf action now this drill super simple to do whether you’re at a driving range whether you’re on a grass range whether you’re on a simulator if you’re on a simulator or at the driving range you’ll probably just need a basket grass driving range you’ll be able to stick your cane in the ground but all it requires is an alignment cane and what I want you to try and do and what we’re going to do is get some feedback from this cane is going to help us Identify two things so you’re just going to pop it into your basket or into the ground I’ve got a little swing plate here that is super handy for me and I’m going to pop it in here and then I’m just going to place my golf ball and what I want to see as you look at the golf ball now from as you’re stood over it what you’ll notice is that as you look down on it I’ll give you a player’s eye view now is that the golf ball is below the tip of the cane and also if you are thinking how high should I have this cane well what I want to see is that it is two fists above the golf ball approximately a sleeve of golf balls above where your golf ball is now that we’ve got our cane in there firstly we’re going to use it to identify where we feel like the majority of our body weight is when we come into impact and all I want you to do to um recognize where that is and identify that is is just think about your sternum or the zip on your top the buttons on your T-shirt if you’ve gotten one of those just like I say the sternum there now as we address the golf ball we can see now I’ve got a seven iron here a mid iron for me Ball’s going to be just in front of my uh center of my stance so actually my sternum now is literally just behind ever so slightly behind the cane here um from Target side but what I want us to do is just get rid of the golf ball to start off with and we’re going to take our address position imagining that golf ball still in line with where it would want to be firstly in a dress just check that where do you feel like you are because a lot of times I see a lot of people getting a little bit lazy in the setup and thinking again oh well I want to try and make sure I’m getting that ball up in the air I’m sick of hitting the ground before it so what I’ll do is I’ll get a little bit behind it here and this means now that the golf ball is going to feel like it’s going to go up in the air too much and what you’ll notice straight away if you’re too far behind away from the target behind your cane it’s going to be really apparent because you’ll be looking at it almost from back behind this angle and you won’t be able to sort of see the cane when the ball is in splitting the golf ball in half almost you’ll almost see the ball and then the cane out in front of it so use it just as an identifier in that setup position we don’t want to see that we’re really far behind it and vice versa we don’t want to see that we’re really out in front of it because if we get too far in front of it chances are I’m going to try and get back on the way down to counteract that so as we take our setup like I say we don’t need the ball for the moment locate where that button line is zip line sternum however you’re going to do it and just feel that you’re pretty much on top of the cane as we’re doing that now and then secondly what I want us to do just before we actually start hitting a few balls off is actually see as we make a really slow golf swing and we come down and stop again where do we feel relative to that cane are you feeling that you’re coming back this way do you feel that you’ve gone too far forwards or do you feel pretty neutral because what we want to try and feel is that as we start this down swing now that sternum is going to feel that it just SL shifts ever so slightly in front there ever so slightly in front because then as I come down and my CL would stop on the line here what we would see now is that I get the angles that I want to create the hands are leaning the shaft forward my sternums now got in front of where the cane is here my pressure shifted everything that I’m doing is gearing me up to get that ball and then Turf strike as I’m going through what I’m not doing is what I see a lot of people do up need to get the golf ball in the air let’s shift behind it hit the ball off far back foot throw all the angles down towards the golf ball and get something like this and what that would result in even if you’re doing this incorrectly if we just take a look at the angle of attack number on screen if I were to do it and do it incorrectly oh not good I get a fat I’ve moved back behind it obviously I’ve exaggerated what I’ve done there but what we will see 10. five on the up so that means I’ve hit the golf ball on the up and as I said at the start of the video I want my arc to be bottoming out after the golf ball I want ball then I want Turf and if I’m feeling all the time that I’m back behind the cane as I’m doing this I’m never going to get that strike so what we want to do is now we’ve identified where we were in setup and just having some slow swings where we are on the down swing just going to have some small swings feeling that as we’re coming into impact I am just each time feeling that I’m getting in front of this cane and actually letting the club travel under and bottoming out after Target side towards the target here once you are confident with it and once you’re feeling like you’ve got it doing everything that we want to do and it will take some time it will take some practice I want you to start chipping a few balls off for me a lot of my students as they do this think right I’ve got it I’m going to go in I’m going to go full P at it oh didn’t work Why didn’t it work but if we just take our time and say right come on let’s just chip a few off and I want you to be aware as we’re going through where do you feel do you feel behind it or do you feel slightly in front of it as we’re going through if we can just hit some small ones to start start off feeling in front it felt pretty decent felt like I got down on it a little bit I’ve only hit it 95 yards or so but what I have done is gone from a 10° up to a minus three straight away so if you’re looking to improve that strike and you’re on a launch monitor you’re looking for that downward attack you’re not looking for an upward attack so have a few each time like I say make sure that that ball is sitting below the cane check yourself in a dress are you too far behind too far forwards or are we feeling we’re just on top of it and then as we come down I’m shifting just in front I’m shifting and I’m creating my angles as I go through them it felt good it felt consistent and I would say that’s probably a little bit more down maybe four I’m going to guess 4.1 I’m saying as we go through but as we’ve got it 4.7 minus 4.7 as I’ve gone down so all I’m doing there each time just by a simple awareness of where I feel my pressure is moving throughout the golf swing in a real simple drill I’m able to start getting that club bottoming out as we go through the golf swing then once you’re confident you can build the speed up and I even like the thought of this on the golf course as you sort of step over it picture yourself maybe having an imaginary line running down from the ball in between your legs and just thinking as you come through I’m just going to break that line by shifting forwards and getting in and from there then as we go through and we get that strike oh it’s a lovely it’s a lovely little clip it was ball it was Turf it felt consistent I’m going to say 2.4 that was actually pretty decent minus 2.5 on the down I don’t have to be massively down all I’m looking for is that little grazing each time so a real simple drill one that takes seconds to set up but can have a massive massive impact on how you are striking your irons guys please give that drill a try for me as well as I said earlier give the channel a little subscribe down leave us a comment on something that you’re trying to improve on and you want my help try this drill out and start to see that you’re gaining a little bit of consistency in your iron strike

  2. Good trick for spin when next to a green though……. Two balls along the strike line….. semi thin it and the second ball shoots off and the first balls shoots up and rips back if you hit the green lol
