[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] a buddies welcome to another uh another edition of the podcast here on a we were just talking about in the pre-show another rainy day here in the City of Calgary according to environment Canada the 17th day with moisture it’s 17 rainy days out of I believe today’s the 30th so just about half just about half of the days have been uh been rainy and wet here in in the city no wonder you moved away I mean this is the shits farmers are I can’t yeah I guess if they’ve got the seed in the ground the farmers are probably happy I would think Sunshine now yeah yeah mitigating the uh you know the the whole uh uh drought dryness that that all those concerns CU there was talk of G have to have water bands and all that sort of thing it’s been pretty quiet on that front but I would think probably about if it’s if we get a sunny weekend somewhere not uh just back off if unless you’re really really thirsty if you could not uh if you could not drink that would be great uh we believe we might have a Pender performance at some point during the show today can I ask a question on that front yeah uh yeah if he calls in is he automatically added or can we just is it like I get a lot of phone calls on my telephone right I don’t pick up no what it’ll be is on on my screen here I I I’m seeing all of this plus I have the chat on the one side and then underneath in the bottom there’s a little kind of a thing and I see my face and I see a screen with Jack is there and then you’re there and if he comes in another window will pop up and he’ll be there but kind of kind of blurry or whatever it’ll just be but you know he’s there he only comes in if we allow him they call it the Green Room you’ll be waiting in the green room and you can’t just barge away in unless we say okay come on in bud so yeah he could sit there yeah that’s what I was wondering if he could sit there that’s what would happen on the um uh afterburners where he would show up unannounced just because doesn’t want to do the show but then shows up to be part of the show so I would just kind of leave him there and then badmouth him and then he’d eventually just leave or I would kick him out altogether um I’m not sure I don’t know if if it was an Oiler loss last night he’d probably been in here by now he probably would have jumped right in he’d have been so excited but it was not an Oiler loss last night it was uh kind of a uh reversal what do you do a uh you know a spinoni from game number three where one team has a great start gets out to a two- nothing lead and then shits the bed the rest of the way uh that was quite a quite a thing last night quite a thing first shot on Net One nothing was it the third shot on net two nothing Oilers zero shots the rink dead quiet dead quiet they’re like we’re [ __ ] and then the star said okay so uh when we fly home tonight with that 3-1 lead what do you got you want to go and have some barbecue what are we doing having some uh beef ribs what are we doing golf tomorrow can we CU they shut it down yeah they they did all together what the H if I’m Pete deor I’m having a hard time not really flying off the handle but I but it’s it was me it was obviously the reversal of the game before what I don’t understand and what noodles alluded to and another Frank has alluded to other prognosticators have alluded where’s the want where’s the where where is it yeah right like I watched that the the um what’s Harley put that shot into the pads and then playing a two-on-one short-handed and he does nothing yeah I did want to ask you about that don’t ask because I how do you explain it he does nothing it’s like he’s never played the [ __ ] position before yeah it’s embarrassing the power play has not been very good they give up a short-handed the the penalty kill for the Oilers 23 of 23 the last eight games and they have been good they just it seems to be very simple they just put a lot of pressure on whoever’s got the puck we’re coming at you and you’re going to have to make a play and if you make a play there’s a good chance you might catch us out of position because we’re being aggressive on the penalty kill but we’re going to roll the dice and and see how that goes and it’s gone very well for them to the tune of 23 of their last 23 but yeah Harley a now I’m trying to remember who it was on the wall he just kind of spins and sends it back to Harley at the Blue Line Harley hits his own guy he hits marchment right in the the tokus with the puck and then it’s a two-on-one the other way and to your point he’s skating backwards but like I’m not really going to take the shot and I’m not taking the pass so but I’m here if you wanna if you need me we’ll take a look I know Jax’s got it there it was embarrassing and that’s just one example there is no reason to shoot that puck there’s no rush you haven’t had a good setup yet it’s been a [ __ ] show trying to get in the zone and get it set up and he Absolut look at what is that yeah he’s got two options there he can go back you could just stop and hang on to the puck and gets everyone okay let’s set up yeah it’s duchane here on the wall who sends it back to him you can put it back to duch Shane or you can certainly although you know the sticks there maybe go back to do Shane or but you don’t have to move the puck immediately yeah you can move your feet take it towards the wall buy yourself some time get it set up like I you probably don’t have the clip Jack to go back further but they that whole power play they were running around they couldn’t get set up yeah and they finally get to a spot where okay we can settle things down here let’s let’s get the power play set up and Dopey what and these are supposed to be your guys that that have the confidence with the puck yeah I know yeah I know right um so and I don’t know what it is if if it’s credit to so there’s a real good look at it from the from yeah there’s there’s no urgency to you don’t off you don’t have them outmanned in front of the net you’re not ripping a one-time you’re being [ __ ] lazy and look at that yeah that is not that’s beer league 200 one you want to win the Stanley Cup that’s your effort I’m not saying you’re going to stop him but that’s your look at this look at this apologies for the people on the audio portion look oh darn oh can’t believe he passed it through the slot Harley’s uh Norris nomination lost in the mail no it was har got yanked yeah I would have a real but the problem is that you’re you’re the Stanley Cup semi-finals you can’t go ranting around the the room and and getting out of hand if you’re Pete deor but my goodness but this again Harley’s an example of what the Oilers proved the game before oh we’re gonna get up and we’re g to kick her feet up and we’re we’re gonna be lazy about it the rest of the day yeah what do you mean and the thing was that was because that’s in the second period they it felt like they had already kind of packed it in by then cuz you through the sequence of events it’s one- nothing early Wyatt Johnson with a great shot the two nothing it’s ESS Lindell shot goes off of Darnell nurse because of course Darnell nurse everything’s going against him right now um then Sean has that backhander in in front it kind of hits Skinner and he Dives over to his I guess it’s his right try and fight it off then the Oilers get their first shot on net and then the the play where I mean nurse interferes with with Ryan suor who tumbles into their fraking goal tender and then McLoud is there at the doorstep it it that was it the Oilers did not look back after 2-1 with uh six and a half left in the first period I don’t know if Skinner had to make a challenging save of any kind D andov he stopped he stopped dadonov on a kind of a play but danov was half ass tied up and had to shoot it it kind of went back towards Skinner but regardless yeah they weren’t challenged you got a guy a goalie on the ropes or too early again where’s where’s the Killer Instinct like and again I’m where was it with for Edmonton am I misinterpreting this as because the other side how can you hang on to leads or want to put Carolina gave up I mean the Rangers poured it on him yeah you gave up a three-goal lead no it’s it’s been a story of the season it’s I think it’s it’s a trait that we’re seeing Dall no yeah it’s it’s happening all the time yes it’s happening all the time blown leads and multiple goal leads that was a two nothing and much like in game three where Edmonton was roaring in the first and had other opportunities to go up three nothing four nothing and couldn’t do it same with Dallas here rupe hin has a breakaway shoots it misses is the net high and wide there was that play by SE again in front where the backhander is stopped it could have been three4 nothing and maybe it’s different but for a team that has the depth and you would think the experience and is well coached and all of that and they’ve been through this before they were to a Cup Final in 2020 and they’ve been to they’ve done this thing before um to to just now give you have to give the Oilers some credit because they were a lot to handle they turned things on but it was one of the things I was going to ask you how much of it was the Oilers really taking over the game and how much it was it just the Oilers taking what was presented to them which was the Stars just sitting right back and it did not feel like there was a lot of lot of fight from Dallas L and I don’t think it’s just a Dallas issue because you’ve seen it in other series and with other teams and you saw with Edmonton two nights ago so it’s it’s a it seems like it’s a leag wide thing and maybe it’s great maybe you know what I mean like in the 90s Jersey gets up by two go to sleep yeah turn the game off it’s over Monopoly anyone because this is over they’re going to danaco this thing right to the final buzzer and so I don’t like that either but I just and and the Harley thing stands out because we’ve watched it we’re looking at it I don’t see any desperation or intuition as to how to win a hockey game at that point there’s no the the hockey sense or willingness to have some desperation to make a play again they might Edington might score yeah but you did nothing to stop it yeah yeah you did nothing like you did absolutely nothing and so you can so you excuse the shot why did you make that shot that’s well I just okay okay but okay what about the two-on-one situation well exactly well what yeah you didn’t do anything and the bulk of those goals now the the McLoud one was kind of a I mean it was kind of a shitfest there in front but again it’s Cory Perry Ryan McLoud guys that had McLoud was a healthy scratch the game it been five straight without Cory Perry that line shouldn’t be giving you fits and it was a it’s a dumb play I guess sud I I was had to go back and see what the [ __ ] is this guy doing you played a thousand games or whatever it is don’t fall in your goalie but he kind of got tangled up with nurse okay but then from that point on the uh the bushard goal is off of a rebound that’s essentially an odd man rush or turns into because there’s no Bard it’s not it’s not even him joining the rush he’s got the zone to himself everybody has collapsed to the to the near side if you’re watching on on TV on to that near the near boards he’s got the whole fraking Zone to himself he’s going to bang that in so that’s kind of an odd man thing the the Yanmar one we showed you same thing with the dry cidal no hope for ainger they odd man rushes two-on On’s wide open Nets Dallas you were you could have been five wins away from the whole thing and that was how you come through I don’t know I’m with you I don’t I it’s like old men yelling at the at the clouds here but God forbid and the Oilers have have done it maybe play some defense and see what happens compete the Oilers have found if we what if we back check and what if we’re not just so focused on offense although I don’t even think that was what the stars were doing but the scary part for the Stars if we keep speaking about the stars and we can give credit to Edmonton sure that’s maybe that’s a sign of a team that’s starting to mature but the stars have had shitty starts where they’re they don’t show up and then they’ve had they showed up and scored a couple maybe they weren’t even that sharp you don’t know cuz the first two shot you know what I mean like yeah you scored two but it was so early on that were you going to be good or are they flat because for two and a half periods or just over two periods they were pretty flat yeah and the game before they were flat and game two in a desperation spot to win I actually thought that Edmonton was the better team in Dallas in game two for two periods Maybe I’m Wrong they’ve listen they yeah they have been they’ve been good in this series they deserve to be tied at at worst I think they deserve to be tied and and who knows what the hell happens now now one of the things that’s probably key in here as well as we talk about Harley and how he played that Puck and the just the defensive part of their game what if they’re without Chris tanv now he takes what looks to be it’s a shot here early on I don’t get that one and it’s hard to see where he took it almost but he hands off the shot blocker and you can see he’s limping so he’s taken one off of the uh the foot ankle area and he’s in distress and there it is that’s your uh somebody T there’s the the Halloween costume the tanv walking down the tunnel to the locker room you can just have your your tanv jersey get some shower curtains and hang some drapes off of it and you can just be T of continually walking down the tunnel to the locker room but he doesn’t come back he played eight and a half minutes I think is what it ended up being they be good huge loss and it affects you there because it’s early enough in the game then you’re you know you’re scrambling with Five Guys one of them being whoever the hell it is petravic or whatever all due respect but um yeah all of a sudden if you’re without him it changes things in a in a big way for Dallas Big way I think but yeah and and again at home in game five if he’s not available when you can match things up a little bit more like well they didn’t trade for him because he wasn’t going to be a big piece of it well and remember too that he and Lindell were the pairing that at home they had out against the McDavid line and they got scored on three times so even there that’s gonna happen against some of the best players in the world I’ll tell you what I mean it’s there’s there’s no no there’s no telling what’s going to happen you can’t predict that there’s it’s so it’s good in that sense yes it sucks you know if you’re a fan of one of these teams but but I got upset again I was yelling at the TV you had it in the bag you just yeah come on come on it’s odd that it’s back-to-back games where you really felt like one team was cruising yeah after what after their performance in the first period and for Dallas not so much first period but the first whatever 12 minutes um this this is this is it and look look if they if they find a way to steer that thing home last night the series is over it’s over teams don’t come back from 31 let alone Edmonton against Dallas and that’s no disrespect Edmonton you just don’t do it and Skinner letting in twoo early good or not after being you know there’s some question marks all of a sudden Ed you yeah you have a you got to win four but you you score a few more and you put them to bed and you night night and move on they’ve they we did it in our semi-final against San Jose we went into San Jose won the first two games in San Jose oh we got it and we lost three and four at home not good not good now we we pulled it out but the stress that it more games more chance of injury More Travel More fatigue just you don’t need to have that it all adds up into and not in your favor and you know what you look at the tanv thing and it was game four so it’s not as though you went deep into a series but that’s just the kind of stuff that happens it’s round three he takes a shot I don’t know if it happens in round one if he’s if there’s no injury but still just even watching plays henan was going hard I think it was I think it was back into his own Zone he kind of got tripped up and fell into the end boards and you think well that that’s going to add up and going to add up it just you keep going four five six seven games and and Dallas has had to do that they were up two nothing and against is that what it was yeah they were up two nothing against Vegas and then had to Roar back to get it oh they were down they were down two nothing yeah and then had to had to find a way so I I just it was the rink was so quiet R it was beautiful it was a beautiful thing God it was so quiet in there I was L I went this morning to hear the uh the TNT broadcast they actually didn’t say much after the puck went in and it was just you could hear the kind of just the poor Oregon player kind of doing a nothing nothing to see here everything’s fine don’t worry plun plun plunk plunk plunk plunk and you could just hear the puck ring just bung holes tightening and uh they walked out feel good though tell you what tells you a little something about a team that just folds it at two to one though it’s two to we’re up two to one a [ __ ] look out here they come and then you got to give up a short-handed goal and and and if I was Jake Ginger I’d be pissed off at my team but you know and you’re right but I did when that fourth goal went in it was four on 20 or 21 and too many too many it’s too many is it your fault nope not your fault four on 20 21 however many shots too many yeah took the Oilers eight minutes to get a shot and they win this thing 5-2 I’m wondering if some of the goalies are better off being peppered I was actually going to ask noodles at yesterday with bosi and shurkin both Wicked goenda is getting less shots on them I think maybe maybe maybe there’s shots but not as challenging a shot you know what I mean and if some of these golender ought and you’re beting one where maybe he’s better off getting pumped early shurin seems that way doesn’t he right like busier he is yeah yeah I think it’s I think it’s for sure the case um get a feel get into it but they did Skinner a favor you you potentially had that guy on the ropes with the first shot going in and it was a good shot but you I mean it’s make a save you’re a big guy come out challenge that’s sort of thing and then the second one I don’t know what he was going to do because it goes off of his off of his hoop I believe it was it doesn’t matter though you you’ve got into his head and then you sure yeah but I I just didn’t think that eight shots in the third from Dallas but did not have the feel of a desperate team never had it uh kind of my calling card is always did if a team gets outshot while trailing in the third period just pack your [ __ ] you’re done but they did outshoot them 86 but they give up the empty net goal whatever but they didn’t they didn’t threaten and again I don’t know if that’s fraking the Oilers give that might be the Oilers playing well and they apparently it’s an evenly match to I guess I guess round three I guess you deserve to have some moments Y and that’s the thing we we get caught up being on being so anti- Edmund that you you failed to give them some credit I I think we’re fairly Fair we don’t have a bias try not to try our best not to yeah but no I mean yeah you’re right it people are like oh this is too much why are we talking Oilers get out of here what are we talking about we it’s a hockey show day after playoff game what are we gonna talk about I get you don’t want to hear about the Oilers we don’t want to really talk J you want to talk Jay you want to talk Alec monoa uh we can do that but um no like it best of three you have to feel like it’s this thing’s gonna go seven now just with how this thing has gone back and forth and back and forth and a game seven in Dallas it’s gonna be what Friday Sunday Tuesday all right sure I’ll make plans I’ll make plans I don’t know who’s going to win I don’t either no way there is absolutely no way to uh to have to have a feel on it especially after last night you felt like okay maybe the Oilers have a bit of crap their pants blow a lead kind of a thing did not see the Dallas Stars doing what they did last night and it wasn’t just the two- nothing lead they just had very little in the way of Pop after after taking that lead I think steuart Skinner as as noodle says he’s in his he was in his rocking chair back there it was a very easy night against the guy there’s a bit of fragility there bit of fragility and they didn’t take advantage one power play they’ve been keeping and that’s the other thing that that hurts you too you’ve been disciplined you haven’t been giving up a bunch of power plays to the Oilers because that’s how they Feast they’ve been disciplined they’ve been good give up a short-handed goal goou but we move on but no tan of is a big deal big deal it’s and on a weird one because it didn’t look like I still can’t really tell from that angle where he’s obviously taking it on the foot but I can’t really see is it ankle heel what how did it um but you know what they say about t So Soft right it’s just so soft do play through because this is terrible 52 best ever best ever godddamn that Cory Perry could have been made made some money when it was two nothing could have made some money for sure you know people it’s coming up Firebirds played the Milwaukee Admiral last night and I got to watch Troy gr Nick against Chris dger in a go tending battle okay you want to talk some hockey well let’s hear it I’m hanging now you got me don’t leave me here 2-1 Daddy had Coachella Valley minus one and a half really could have used that m another yeah I could have for sure so this is the league final is it uh this is the West final I don’t know who’s in the East final yeah so this is basically I think where uh yeah the round after where the rangu got knocked out last year so it’s a best of seven now they’ve gone from best of fives to sevens Milwaukee against Coachella Valley and what’s the series at now that was game one so they I we didn’t know who they were going to play until a couple days ago I think uh Co Valley swept Ontario and then Milwaukee was playing somebody and that took a lot longer so you could buy tickets before you knew who they were playing because I’m going to millye really well they should be there uh I would think midweek next week because it’s yeah Friday here I’m going Tuesday there should be a game Tuesday I bet because see milwa maybe yeah Milwaukee is the reason oddly the reason that red is in Buffalo and not Calgary right now I was uh I feel like I missed a good R travel day story yesterday yeah you did yeah it’s not it’s pretty good it’s it’s not like uh it’s not Fort St John Fort it’s not like when you live in Calgary and then go to the airport and go home it’s when you live in Buffalo cross the border drive to Hamilton go through security get to the gate then turn around and go back home right I got because I got to go to Milwaukee I got to go Milwaukee on Monday yeah and this is Wednesday and I’m in Hamilton while living in Buffalo so anyway yeah so what’s happening at uh is this just is this how we commute or are we golfing because you’re on a golf cart with the we’re going to the driving range the young men they antsy uh it took about 48 oh good exactly yeah Wi-Fi doesn’t work when you oddly when you leave the freaking yard that’s all we need right right that’s enough is that enough that is more than enough he doesn’t want to talk Oilers he already said it they’re two losses away as well as two wins away it’s you know what that is Pinder to a te yes you know Ryan they’re two wins away from the cup yes but they’re two losses away from being out he is games from the Dome and and then do the road games from the uh the radio station downtown I can’t to like Rob Ray I Rob Ray would like to not travel for a lot of the broadcasters I know for people like Dereck wills and I know larius when he was there that was part of the charm that was part of the perk is you get to go and and see these cities and be in the visiting ranks and from a work from a professional stpoint it’s easier to do the job when you’re there to to call the game when you can see the game and talk about it it is easier um but I wonder how many teams because even in Toronto the the Leafs like Joe Bowen they weren’t traveling well you just because of covid they realize you can do things differently and how much money do you save beliefs need to save a bunch of money but and I know that there’s still they’re still kind of at the point but I wonder how close we are you just simoc cast it if you’re paying Rick ball and Kelly Rudy to do the game um just just use that audio well and I don’t know anything about this but apparently the big cost is to have the second truck in there to give your own feed yeah do you know what I mean because if you’re a Buffalo Sabers well typically they’re going to follow a saber off the ice not a Calgary flame and you’re going to have highlights from s and you have your own in-game uh you’ve sold things here is time for the power play presentation of whoever you throw that up that sort of thing so you’d have to tailor it a little bit but I guess it just depends how much you’re looking to make what what are you spending on radio rights what are you looking to make off of it because if it’s uh if you’re just doing it then then I I don’t know how far we are away from just simal casting both there was also some talk do they do they do this online do they do The Flames just kind of take it inous and do their own kind of thing but they’re going to uh we’re we’re not there yet we’re just not there yet what about the people in with a bunch of dummies and just skate around skating so it’s like shooting and passing it oh okay yeah so what uh does does hockey end when you have a kid who’s of that age do seem to it doesn’t seem to we were discussing that like there’s another thing in mid July and then hockey seems to start right yeah September but you know you’ll have to get a a camp or something in August for sure get your fall is he going to be a junior saber again is he going to be a uh is he if we were stuck here I think he’d be a junior saber or maybe one of those prolific Western powerhouses that Calgary produces because my athletic ability in build and stature length all of that not conducive to anything athletic zero I’ll talk about it but I can’t do it um so they uh they were they had to do the uh the relay where you’ve got the Baton oh yeah a little bit you don’t want to slow down too much when you’re doing the transfer they call it the transfer of the Baton you got to reach back but you don’t want to look back cuz it then you kind of it was intense the crowd was into it you and you can feel that Roar as they come around that F it’s like a horse race come around the was a big day over at Foothills soctor uh second in the heat fifth overall fifth in the city they’re going to take it apparently when you finish in the top top five you do get a ribbon not top three top five all of the top five get don’t know what the what the word is yeah I know there’s some words we don’t use even on just not right to use but when it comes to anything technical Tinder is so challenged he is so technically challenged when we were doing the shows at uh at the Grey Eagle doing afterburners the one day he showed up with the light no power cord no way to plug it in is is it just kind of is it run on Magic like what what how does this thing how are you going to power this thing uh headphones do you have oh you need the the right headphone jack oh I don’t have the right headphone jack we are two years into this thing and still he’s bringing I don’t have the right cord I don’t have and especially when you are challenged you’d think you’d really kind of Double Down okay before I leave here’s a checklist of things that I need and he still kind of gets it that’s what’s surprising too he’s very organized or pretends to be he’s got notebooks and color coordinated pens and he does yeah in some get out of here but uh not much the golf thing A lot of my buddies are into golf and I’m also one of the people that suck at golf and it’s frustrating I’m thinking about picking it back up okay but
