The underlying cause and effect goal here is to give the club head mass a chance to develop enough energy for the hands to feel the force of the club pulling on the hands—if the ‘weight’ (force) of the club head isn’t felt in the hands there is no situational awareness or control. Just imagine instead of a steel shaft a rope connects head and grip and try take it away without any slack.
A slight ‘forward press’ with the hands before swinging back will result in the hands actually dragging the club head backward the first inch or so. The advantage of the that is when the club head mass react by swinging back past the hand the pull and weight of the club head is felt more strongly.
If the club is moved too fast and lifted the hands wind up pushing at the start and there isn’t as much situational awareness (feel in the hands of what the club head is doing) or control.
