The Vibes are The Vibes are not great that didn’t go as planned uh Hagen Smith day did not work out the way we expected Hagen Smith day to work out um it feels like that game went by quickly it felt like it all kind of there was a lot that happened and a lot we’re going to get into here on this postgame show uh man it just was about as excruciating as any Arkansas loss I think I’ve ever seen in my life uh we’ll get into all the multiple facets of why it was so frustrating and uh Arkansas loses 7 to six to Kansas State and you know we’ll discuss tomorrow and what Arkansas is about to attempt to have to do trying to win three straight games to Stave off elimination and keep their season alive uh boys but I must turn to my colleagues my pals my friends John neighbors and Curtis Wilkerson what what do we make of what we just saw boys like your reaction hold it all a little bit that I mean just just being honest I mean it’s it’s what this team has done like really all year so I mean it’s it’s like you know it’s one thing where you go into a game and if and if you lose certain ways because baseball happens baseball’s crazy we know postseason crazy and everything on Hagen Smith day on Hagen Smith day buddy there ain’t a bingo card out there that had Kansas State getting six runs in an inning all Pagan Smith like just are you kidding me like if if if anything I was like if AR I actually went into the game I don’t know if you all did the same but I went into the game like hey if Arkansas if you told me Arkansas is going to lose a game I’m like all right well it’s probably going to be like one nothing you know like like it’s going to be that but to see the Razer backs have what 11 hits 12 hits 13 is what I is what they ended up even better 13 hits to Kansas States Vibes what Arkansas ended up with disgusting disgusting I mean that’s that’s what it is I mean it’s just indicative of the entire season right there Curtis I was I was sitting somewhat near you you know our our our beautiful intern Parker was in between us so we didn’t get a really a good chance to assess each other’s Vibes throughout the games a ton uh you you seemed you seemed solid you know you seem like you were hanging in there uh were you panicking the entire time the way that it seemed everyone else was or um no I mean I was a little bit Shell Shocked I think at when they got when they touched Hagen for six even when it was when it was three and they took the lead it was like all right when he gave up the the Dinger to uh to co pepper there I was thinking no way dude like no they would no way this was going to happen but it then it just seemed like they had you know kind of opportunity after opportunity to to get back in the game to win the game um looked like it looked like the St was he there towards the end and they were uh they were touching him up he looked like he losing a bit in the seventh and then they just couldn’t get the big hit then he had first and third nobody out in the eighth you only get one run out of it the top of the water doesn’t really get anything done um kind of squandered you know Benny big balls byby his his outing there outside of the solo shot I mean it just it was great stuff from it’s just frustrating man it’s just frustrating um to lose the Hagen Smith game that’s just that’s just that couldn’t happen that’s now three straight Hagen Smith starts that Arkansas has not won obviously losing in the regular season the final series to A&M they lose that one to nothing game in 11 Innings obviously the Kentucky start where he goes two innings in Hoover you know obviously we’re not making a big deal out of that uh But Here we are now three straight games I mean Hagen Smith they had not lost a Hagen Smith start all year uh and I think part of what made this so jarring so if you remember last year everyone immediately started doing the hey purple teams Big 12 same thing but this felt completely different than last year’s because it was clear right away that something was up with TCU y I mean I think they hat they scored three or four in the first inning off of them and you know the ball was leaving the yard you could kind of tell it was an offensive day uh and you could tell that it you know it wasn’t a PK and Smith outing from the jump in that one and I think he only went two and a third or somewhere in that that ballpark uh but that wasn’t the case for the first four Innings I mean he was through four scoreless Innings can State didn’t have their first hit uh and you know like Arkansas really wore who you know sh we can’t even do the bit about the commercial of the JG went worth 877 cash now we can’t even do that joke because he’s the winning pitcher in this game uh and frankly he did a great job of kind of keeping Kansas State in it and giving him a chance but you know you mentioned it felt like Arkansas was wearing down Wentworth it didn’t even feel like Kansas state was wearing down Hagen Smith I mean he had given up the one two out single there in the fourth inning uh had a couple walks here and there but frankly until he walked those two guys to start the fifth inning it didn’t feel like there was any trouble whatsoever it didn’t feel like I mean Arkansas just had two runs there in the top of the fifth they finally break onto the scoreboard Ty wils speed and we’ll definitely talk about we’ll do the Ty wism bit here in a minute uh but Tai wisar gets things is going for the ARs offense they scor two runs there after the the Hudson white single uh and they left a couple guys on and it was like okay probably missed the opportunity to really blow it open but two-run lead for Hagen Smith like you feel like you’re in good shape uh and then even after the two walks you didn’t get the feeling right then you thought that hey this this might be harder than we thought but I was not expecting six runs to go up on that scoreboard and for that to be the final inning of of Hagen Smith’s day uh and frankly you know it’s it would probably be easier to swallow if it were just a simple guys were raking the ball all over the yard but uh we can we can discuss how it goes down I mean you had the two singles or the two walks to start the inning Kansas State decides to play a little small ball and gives a sack bunt there and I looked at Curtis and I said I don’t hate that you know like I feel like it gives him a chance to score here obviously uh and then they have a a huge O2 single that Hagen gives up to the nine hole who just does a good Great Piece of hit and just goes the other way with the fast ball drives in a run and it was hitting the perfect spot to where now you have Runners on the corners one out so you’re like oh man like these guys are really you know this is this is an issue here uh and then there was another Chopper that gets over the head of Ben mofin first base uh this one was even hit softer than the first one and so even at that moment guys as crazy as it sounds I’m detailing a lot of bad things here you still kind of felt like oh man is unfortunate and like man how’s our what’s going to happen here but it didn’t feel like the real gut punch happened like when that ball left the yard you know you mentioned which by the way we should mention the guy Co pepper hit for the freaking cycle earlier today uh so you know he’s the Trey Richardson of this year for those that are looking for that for that that situation I mean it is what it is uh but you know right as that ball left of the yard I remember thinking what’s the score cuz like I it wasn’t on my radar it wasn’t like oh man you know you know at any point you kind of have an idea of like if a ball leaves the yard what’s the score I I hadn’t even it was we didn’t have enough time to really process it like it was a two to nothing game for Arkansas and then a six to2 game before any of us could even make a decision and uh then we start having these conversations about what’s Arkansas going to do how are they going to handle this does hagen go another inning I think we all kind of thought he might have another one maybe two in them uh how surprised were you all to see Ben BBY come out of the bullpen there I don’t I don’t know at the time I’m like what is this like I thought cuz at the time I was looking in the bullpen I was like okay I think I see Fouch out there you know it’s just okay well whatever then I come out here and see it’s byby and I’m like they’re trying to they’re trying to win this game right now like maybe I’m wrong maybe because I know Dave Van Horn M HS all them have you know forgotten more about baseball than I have but that kind of told me at least that they were like if we don’t win this game it this is it and that’s what I took from the move but you know I know we’ll hear from da Van Horn and everything but I feel like that’s what it was it was very is a very interesting one because BBY is a guy who you think of if you’re going to have to win four or five games or play four or five games here in this region you would imagine Ben B’s probably one of your starters uh we haven’t seen him come in in high leverage situations out of the bullpen uh it was just a very I couldn’t tell if that was dvh trying to maybe send a message to the offense like I really don’t know I I think it might have been as simple as dvh just says hey we’re in a horrible spot pitching we didn’t get a good performance from our Ace we need someone to eat Innings while we can just figure out what we need to do uh now Ben by I feel bad that we’re not going to get to really celebrate it really was a value I mean the final line on three Innings just the one hit which did leave the yard there and turned out to be quite a consequential hit there to play at first base the inning before there are so many things you can point to I mean Arkansas in The Almost Home Run Hudson white was three about 5 feet away from TY in this game uh and then really what what what I think the story of this game is after Hudson white hit that double arkans had the tying run at second six game you know Runner third that’s really putting pressure one out you had you had Kansas I almost said TCU you had Kansas State’s best Bullpen arm on the you get a from P stall and you get a strike out from Ben mlin uh would you want two other or I guess it was who was it Kendall digs there in that SP who there was I mean Ben mlin struck out oh spray glot out too Stow ball had also popped out earlier in that inning uh I mean It’s just tough to have guys that you wanted to play in that situation not able to get the job done and you leave you when it turns out maybe just that one extra run would have been enough I mean who knows how things there’s so many things you can point to anything but strikeouts and infield pop-ups right there anything but dud anything but just like golf shots and I do want to point this out to you from uh uh gu Devon Bradley uh residential listener of the bombastic podcast says uh now for Arkansas the ace for Arkansas has now given up 16 earned runs in 10 games the past two postseason regionals here in Fable wow 16 earned runs by the Ace when’s up 10 I saw my my buddy our buddy Ben Brandon tweeted out that Hagen’s postseason ra is 8.14 his career that’s crazy man yeah I mean even his freshman year I mean he had two really good performances in still water and in uh the College World Series he threw well against Old Miss but he had a couple weird outings there um you know we we I’m sure people there will be plenty of people who will do the uh the Hagen Smith play uh postseason clutch genan spin on this whole thing uh but there’s one number that just keeps sticking out in my brain Arkansas lost or left 13 Runners on base and Kansas State left two two on base and I think I think obviously leaving 13 on is a lot the two number is what kind of stuns me and you you hear that and you may be hearing this and think oh they were just really clutched they were getting all their guys in they only had five hits arkansaw didn’t commit an error uh you know Hagen Smith walked for but Ben BBY didn’t walk anyone it’s not like they were putting pressure on this Arkansas pitching staff all game it was one inning and one swing there in the ninth inning or they bought in the eighth inning that ultimately was it like it that was the entire entirety of what Kansas state did uh it’s just one of those baffling games where If This Were the regular season it would obviously be much easier to swallow as obviously you know we played really well and we did a lot of good things but just one inning blew up on us and you lose but you know you still feel pretty good about your ball Club moving forward not really a ton of time to feel good about your ball Club moving forward uh given the situation that Arkansas’s in and we’re going to see this team here very soon uh but guys just gut feel as we are still processing this whole thing did you see anything from this team in this game that makes you think hey maybe they can they can be Scrappy tomorrow we’ll see how it plays out but did you did you get any any kind of life from the guys I mean in that comeback there attempt there yeah I mean I I like the body language I mean I I thought the lineup continued to battle they continue to scrape you know they just I mean they did leave 13 guys on base but you know they gave themselves a chance there they didn’t fold uh and so from that standpoint you like it but I mean at the end of the day you you get into this situation it’s so important to go 2 and0 yep in these regionals and now you got to win three in a row and you’re I mean you’re you’re already down your third starter and Brady tiger you know the it’s what are you going to do I mean all I know is Gage wood better get up about 6:00 a.m. tomorrow get that salmon on the grill and uh and be ready to shove and then after that I don’t know man piece it together everybody’s going to be in a a a somewhat similar situation but Arkansas is going to be in a worse situation than Kansas state is yep yep and I even throw in assuming they beat Simo yeah which is a big assumption considering the way they plan I mean those guys are swinging it and I’d even throw in too that you know if you were talking about the score and and everything it’s like if you just took away the actual like score and you looked at the box where you’re like oh Arkansas 13 hits to five I mean you think that they well even if they did leave 133 on base it’s still there but that is the problem like this was a game that like you said Andrew it’s not that Kansas State just did anything incredible would be easier to swallow cuz everyone kind of swallowed the T games last year where you’re just teing off on you like that would have been one thing but it’s like you actually did good things you actually got guys on base like you always do but you got 13 hits 13 hits and he scored six runs that to me is like you can look at it a bunch of ways yes it’s about this game but if you’re talking about tomorrow if you’re talking about that I feel like that is at least maybe something you can hold on to Hope because I’m getting to the point now where guys if Arkansas’s going to win games in this postseason they’re going to have to win in shootouts I mean that’s that’s pretty much how I’m feeling about it if they want to get in a position they’re going to have to win in a shootout and with the pitching situation I’m not comfortable with it I’m not confident in it but maybe maybe they can get lucky and get with 13 hits tomorrow they can actually score maybe 10 runs you know something like that it’s just so tough because I mean I know everyone is is already doing the big picture proclamations of like the impact of this game and look there’s plenty of time for us to do that we’re going to do that all off season It’s just tough cuz in years past when you think of teams and how their Seasons end uh not that AR season ending here but one loss means that the season ending is right around the corner if if uh things don’t turn around here but you always kind of want to point to like one thing of like oh we just didn’t have enough pitching or oh our bats went cold or you know we just didn’t have enough power or you know the other team we played they just did this like when you look back at this season if this if Arkansas really is going to you know end their season tomorrow or Monday uh it’s just going you’re going to look back and be like man they lost to a team they were better than in that game too they squandered just a massive opportunity and look I’m not trying to we’re not trying to say this whole like 13 hits thing and AR left a lot of guys on base to try and give you like a positive spin uh it it’s not going to help it you know go down any easier that Arkansas was you know it’s not even like they performed poorly in the game that they lost but it’s one of those when you think about a program being cursed and if you’re TR if you believe in that kind of stuff like this is the kind of outcome where you’re like holy cow dude like I mean can’t even win postseason games when you score where you have 13 hits uh I mean the ball was jumping out of the yard and uh man it’s not even like Kansas State really made him swing and miss a ton uh now the relever did have five you know Tyson neighbors did have five strikeouts and three and a third with that other guy there was seven hits he gave up in five and two3 uh JG Wentworth 877 runs now is uh the bit we were really hoping to to run to the ground here we can’t even do it only gives up two runs and uh it’s just so weird to look at Hagen Smith star where he struck out seven guys in five innings had had six strikeouts through three uh and it really felt like Kansas State didn’t string together a ton against him but they really made him pay when they had a chance when they when they smelled blood they attacked and I just think ultimately that’s the difference in this game is uh Kansas state was able to land the bigger blows and it just felt like Arkansas had consistent pressure they were consistently beating him up and just never really got over that hump uh which feels kind of like the story of you know the way that this people view this program you know of man they’re you clearly like it’s next clearly a very good team clearly like I don’t know how people can watch that and be like oh man like this team just sucks like clearly they don’t and that’s what I think makes it so frustrating and uh man it just it it just really sucks like I don’t know how else to put it but uh it just I don’t even know this doesn’t remind me of any other postseason loss is what’s so like puzzling to me about it and why I’m having trouble really processing it it’s like when you have like a barrel of water and you poke in a hole to keep it from leaking and then another like they just can’t do it all at once it’s like they just can’t put it together it kind of reminds me almost like in basketball where if like you know you team been a team that struggled offensively but you have this game where you shoot 50% from three you go 65% from the field like you don’t have a whole lot of turnovers but the problem was is that the other team had went 30 of 31 from the free throw line and you went five of 18 like where it’s just like you look at the box where you did so many good things but that it was like the one the stuff that mattered and the stuff that made the difference you can’t you got to be able to do the small things like the small like and I know baseball’s crazy talked about how many home runs that they almost had you know just it’s it’s a game of inches we know but it it’s a it’s a frustrating thing to deal with because of what happened last year and now this year last year you could at least say hey injuries tcu’s hot there’s no there’s nothing you can point to about this and say oh well you know this no this this I hate to say it but this was an unacceptable loss it was an unacceptable loss with your Ace on the mound who’s one of the best pitchers and has proven that all year long this was an unacceptable loss uh so so let’s we know Curtis I know you’ve been kind of tracking the the pitch count here this whole thing and uh we’ll talk about some of the other aspects I mean we we’re kind of ignoring a lot of potential Heroes for the offense it’s don’t you know rules don’t get to celebrate all the cool performances uh when you lose so maybe there’ll be a time we do that later but uh I guess if we’re looking for a silver line which again we’re positively Arkansas uses two pitchers in this game Curtis yeah uh overall big was Ben by’s effort in kind of preserving whatever chances Arkansas are going to have yeah I mean it was you had to have that I mean you didn’t have to turn to anybody that you used yesterday so I mean it’s not theoretically like all of those guys will be available I would imagine I mean he threw 62 pitches I mean when you’re when you’re facing elimination pretty much everyone’s on the but you know like not completely bur the only guy that I would expect to see tomorrow off the top would be Hagen Smith but like I wouldn’t even rule it out honestly if you backs against the wall in the second game and you know late I don’t know uh but no that’s that’s it’s that able to get with just two arms uh I mean the question for me though is just like who the heck you I mean it’s I don’t know if Dave said or not in the press conference it’s got to be gauge for first game tomorrow right and then but then what imagine uh you know so the Christian Christian Fouch was the first arm that got loose in the bullpen for Arkansas saw him down there throwing which you know obviously threw 21 pitches yesterday so it made sense that he would be available here in this game uh you would imagine that one of the best arms on the team would be one of the top arms you’d go through right there we saw Stone h also getting loose um you know Ben Ben byby through 39 pitches and you know I would assume you probably don’t want to use him tomorrow if you can avoid it a special as you might starter Monday so as crazy as it sounds I do also just want to point out so Hagen Smith threw 92 pitches uh I agree that I just can’t imagine they use him tomorrow I don’t remember the count but he over 60 PS in that start last year against TCU and then came back the next day and threw like three and 2/3 out of the bullpen uh so I mean there is little bit there’s a little bit sadly there is a precedent for what Arkansas can do when they lose the one and0 game with Hagen Smith on the mound yeah but we’ll see how they handle the situation uh we have not seen Parker Coyle we have not seen Cody Frank we have not seen Dylan Carter um you know I’m sure you know you know fan base can to have their opinions on one of those guys but I mean when you’re trying to do what Arkansas is going to attempt to do here which is win three games in like uh 36 hours uh you’re going to need pretty much all those guys to get outs for you at some point what is a what’s a fair like reasonable expectation for gagewood tomorrow well I mean so his I believe he went five innings in that Texas A&M game which I believe was his career high I mean he hadn’t started a ton there uh I think I threw out five innings earlier this week on the podcast when I was talking about gagewood start I did not expect it to be uh in an elimination game in the middle of the day against Simo well hopefully the bats are putting some runs on the board too because that probably gives him a little bit more length even if he’s giv up a run or two here or there so I’m glad you said that Curtis because I feel like uh uh you know Arkansas’s going to have to play potentially 27 Innings of baseball I think that’s just kind of the lens we need to be viewing this through as Arkansas is going to attempt to play 27 Innings of baseball here obviously you got to be prepared to go more if it comes down to it uh but I think you mentioned the bats coming out to play obviously Arkansas hit SOS pitching well yesterday 17 runs on 16 HS I’d say that’s well I think that’s as big of a key to this as anything else yeah cuz if you get up 10 to two 10 to one whatever it is uh maybe you can make that decision do we pull gauge wood early is he cooking do we just say hey maybe he’s going to go seven innings in this game f it uh you can kind of experiment with that a little bit piece it [Music] together out that’s in front of you but you also have no choice but to kind of plan for the future a little bit with these three games in in two days it’s not I mean this is this is why when people say you got to go 2 and0 in a regional you kind of got to go 2-0 in a regional this is chess not checkers by the way so obviously this is a postgame show we’re scrambling I did not I was not prepared when I say that I was not prepared from Arkansas lost Curtis it wasn’t even like I didn’t consider the possibility of it I really didn’t not tonight you shouldn’t have should definitely did not consider the possibility I actually told Ethan Westerman in the track facility I told him I said you I think you were with I said they could face Hain Smith 150 times and they’d lose 149 yeah this is the one I still believe that I I think I might still believe it too man it’s pretty crazy uh we might find out but on a serious note I don’t have it in front of me if Arkansas’s ever come through in this situation I’m going to assume in the history of the program they’ve done it at some point uh get gu on that one John yeah on that but I have no idea if if that’s a Thing If ARS ever come back in this situation uh at least in my lifetime at least since like I’ve been really paying attention to this program I can’t think of one off the top of my head so someone in the chat might have to uh provide for us there but uh man just thinking forward to this weekend it’s just so weird because or I guess not even this we’re we’re about to leave the weekend it’s not even going to be that anymore I feel like we all were kind of prepared for this offense to be what was this team’s undoing uh I definitely didn’t think Hagen Smith was going to be this team’s undoing uh yeah I could have probably predicted that Runners left in scoring position was going to be this team’s undoing uh but it just is so weird to see it play out this way but weirdly enough the bats might give me more confidence than anything anything else at this point with this team moving forward 13 hits obviously we’ we’ve said it enough at this point but I thought that the what they were doing on the stretch I mean like putting constant pressure on Kansas State makes you feel pretty good I also do have to mention just because that’s what we do here Kansas State not only used their their their Ace tonight just like Arkansas did he threw 93 pitches to haens 92 they also went to their top Bullpen arm who according to inter Parker who I just trust at at this point I mean he could beely completely I believe him too uh he says the Tyson neighbors was like preseason All-American was like supposed to be like a top relever of the year in the country type of thing was banged up a little bit this year but obviously has really good numbers really good strikeout numbers especially uh I feel like there’s a silver lining that Aras scored four runs and three and a third off of them he also threw 67 pitches so you’d have to imagine you’re probably not gonna you’re definitely not going to face him tomorrow if you’re playing Kansas State an elimination game uh and I just think overall I mean Arkansas like we we know Arkansas’s a better team than Kansas State so it’s not like Arkansas can’t win two games against those cats problem is they’re going to have to win a third game before they do it uh and just you know that you can’t put yourself in this position in the postseason uh but I will just go ahead and say it right now y’all can call me a homer y’all can call me whatever if Arkansas gets out of this Regional this is team of Destiny of course they better win it all I mean they have to right yeah they have to by the way real quick uh got a little da Van Horn audio video shout out to Scotty shout out Scotty who’s uh I guess a producer Scotty back working on the freaking weekend that Scotty man we we keep telling this dude we’re like Scotty take a day BBY in there uh turned out to be a pretty solid solid situation although I guess I mean gez why couldn’t you go three scoreless Ben and give us a i me geez uh but I mean seriously like guys we’re not trying to just defend everything at all cost and just be like hey it’s all sunshine and rainbows all the time but seriously ask yourself like what did you because everyone always goes to the like Dave Van choke and all this is another thing like Mark F yeah like the mark F like whatever which by the way like act like Mark f is not like a historically great basketball but but seriously like I’m not saying I’m not saying you should excuse everything you see and you should accept every loss and just nothing matters but like I don’t know how you can watch these the this game in particular play out and be like man that’s a that’s a Dave Van Horn issue or frankly even it’s a Nate Thompson issue uh and it’s damn sure not a Matt Hobs issue we’re going to say hey Matt Hobs you shouldn’t have told Arkansas beat Simo tomorrow I think they I think they will I really do I think the line will be like five and a half minus five and a half for Arkansas yep uh and why couldn’t Arkansas beat Kansas State and you know dude which by the way Devon the G come through in the clutch 04 was the last time that Arkansas was in a one one-1 in the regional and they came in one Brady tups game Slam Grant slam was that elimination final was that in the very final though no that was the last next to final game yeah so that was in the elimination game on Sunday and then they won it on Monday so that’s the only time it’s happened that’s a uh that’s that’s a tough one it’d be like a Kentucky basketball fan being like or or a Duke basketball fan being like have we ever won on a game winner what’s uh is there we ever won a title on a game winner or anything like that that’s a tough one well and also uh kind of going back to the whole day Van Horn did he kind of give you guys like almost uh uh Hurley Vibes remember when Hurley was like get those licks in now yeah get those licks in now like I mean I know that was a little different in the regular season this is like literally you’re facing elimination and you have to win three games in 24 plus hours but yeah I mean that’s that’s the kind of vibe I got for sure yeah I mean it’s a it’s this is not a good situation to be in at all he knows that everybody knows that but the game ends and you got to get up and you got to play again tomorrow they all run out there to right field and they meet as a team and there were probably some some heads down and some frustration and guys were discouraged because you lost a game to a team that you know you’re better then with your Ace on the I mean naturally you don’t feel great about that but he also knows how important it is for those guys to have the right mindset coming out tomorrow and be confident and realize that they’re what 36 and four whatever at home and they’re by far the best team here with the deepest staff and and the best line of it well maybe not the best lineup but you get what I’m saying they’re the best team here well that’s what’s funny about this is Kansas state had the AR had the worst batting average in the N tournament Kansas state had the third worst it’s not like this is some team I me you saw the numbers like they had a few guys here and there they could hit but it’s not like a uh a star studded group necessarily right yeah you just you you can’t the way this could get really really weird is they come out and they’re not focused and they’re playing like they did in that that morning game the second game at Hoover and it’s kind of kicking the ball around and then all a sudden you’re you know you get down a run or two and your backs are up against the wall and you don’t want that like they need to be as Loose as possible and come out and play like they do every time they come out here so you know well and then also to add to that too it’s like you know baseball’s kind of a crazy thing and you know the the way that you lost it does suck and we know that’s here at home they’ve been really good but I’ve also gotten I’ve an arguing with my friends about this they we just need to stop hosting regionals cuz we just do we’re just terrible in Regional yeah never play I’m like yeah cuz yeah just skip that round yeah people forget 18 or you know 19 or you know 20 even 21 which like the coolest moment in of all time yeah so it’s like you know whatever but people are just people are just going to grasp and try to point to literally everything except for just looking at the game and it’s one thing cuz like yeah you had you had your opportunities and that was another thing too I forgot which inning it was but Kansas State like when they had the the error over here like they were giving Arkansas chances and Arkansas just couldn’t capitalize it is what it is uh I do have to point out something I I I kind of brought this up jokingly to Curtis when Kansas state scored six runs there in the fifth inning uh Kansas State played a baseball game this morning they had to play what like three and three and a third or three and a half Innings something yeah uh did that maybe give them a little bit of momentum going into uh into this pivotal game two against Arkansas uh but it has to make you think will Arkansas beating Simo 15 to3 tomorrow in the early game will that give them just a spark they needed uh to win tomorrow night uh I do have to say this like guys if I’m being like by the way I’m just I’m you know just just processing this as we speak here so I come up with a new new new uh bit to do every every two seconds just How We Roll on these postgame shows that’s the beauty of it uh but you know if we’re talking about this seriously 24 hours from now let’s say Arkansas beats Simo the way I mean like that shouldn’t be asking too much and they beat Kansas State whether it’s with you know will McIntyre going four Innings or whatever or maybe they just uh switch the rosters and like nobody noticed and Brady tiger throw five innings however they do it Arkansas beats Kansas State tomorrow which they’re fully capable of doing when we wake up Monday morning we’re not going to expect Arkansas to lose that game like let’s just be let’s just be honest who knows what Arkansas will have left who knows what Kansas state will have left if Arkansas if we are sitting here tomorrow night doing our postgame recap and Arkansas has just won two games tomorrow we are not going to expect them to lose on Monday like just frankly yeah I I mean I don’t I I really don’t and that’s what’s again Dave saying nobody wants to play us right now in the way we’re hitting like man here’s the thing if they win tomorrow against Zemo and then they win to go if they go to Monday Arkansas’s winning like that that’s the that’s that’s the confidence like and I mean who knows maybe do we see Hagen Smith pitch again on Monday I I I don’t know I would bet my life that if Arkansas’s playing on Monday Hagen Smith is taking the mound at some point in some fashion I bet it would probably I think they would try to ideally have it be the last two innings or whatever that’ be so epic I mean that’s that feels like that’s an NCA Regional like staple by the way of like closer or starters closing out the regional or super or whatever it is we see that kind of happen all the time I remember Dallas Kyo coming out of the bullpen in 2009 in that Tim Carver game against Virginia uh I mean that those kinds of things happen all the time if there’s a pitcher in Arkansas history who would have a rough start and then turn around and get a massive SA in a huge spot Hagen Smith it’s kind of like the story of his career a little bit I mean he literally did it in the Still Water Regional as a freshman so it’s like I’m sure he could do it here now um that that kind of excites me just thinking about that um you know like I said 27 Innings you got to Curtis is laughing at how like optimistically I’ve spun this it’s hilarious that you I hope you’ve turned this fan base as full circle as you’ve turned yourself in the last 35 they’re going to smash Simo obviously those next nine innings against Kansas State you know those are going to be the hardest ones the nine innings tomorrow night are going to be by far the hardest uh you know we’ll see if Gabe GLE pitches in that game we’ll see if you know will McIntyre or Christian foucher whoever it is um we’ll see but uh Mason Molina’s also kind of hanging out there like I got to say like I’m not saying you should be expecting Arkansas to win three straight here but there are a lot of pieces lining up where you start thinking you’re like it’s not really that is as out of the realm as you really think I mean we’ve been kind of tracking the pitch count that’s kind of what made B by’s outing so big is like it does allow Arkansas to kind of have some bullets in the chamber I will say that I’m not expecting them or going to predict that they’re going to win three games in a row but I feel like if there was a team that was capable of it it’s this one and you know people look at the regular season I know it doesn’t matter but this team has gone through some stuff where they you know they they lost games but like I think back to that last game in the regular season here against Mississippi State they were down 6 nothing and it looked like like they were full in charge and they just kept clawing back even tonight like they clawed back they lost by a run you know like they clawed back and so I think they’re capable of it it’s just you got to be able if you can still do the hits like what you’ve been doing and just find a way and I want to punch a baby every time I see that they have a runner at third with one out and they don’t score them like stop doing those things yeah they’re capable of it but man like you just can’t have a type of performance today again you just can’t I mean well literally you can’t because if they lose again they will be their season will be over John that is that is how this thing plays out they change that rule this game uh but we were talking about how if you had show me that lineup preseason you know with Wagner in there at DH Ty Williams Mar at Centerfield Diggs and Riot you know spray you know there’s a couple things we might have been like oh that’s interesting uh but it wouldn’t have stunned us but it just feels so weird that we got to this point uh which also we got a shout out our friend Jack Wagner of the program uh breathe some life offense hitting that double Off the Wall I thought he went yard there for a second D I know he should have um by the way Ben Ben mlin was the only player that did not get a hit tonight which is crazy I know I me after six RBI yesterday I told Curtis yesterday this team is going to go as far as Ben McGloin can take him look at he didn’t take him very far today and they lost I mean it is what it is obviously we still love Benny Mack uh but he did he did have a couple couple tough moments there but Wagner right back in there tomorrow I mean I mean when you’re the when you’re looking for the DH job here at Arkansas is not really uh you have one job you do have one job and he got a hit there the best at it I mean of the available options I don’t know hey by the way but since you guys are ball noers and I’m not when that play happened uh where the first baseman for Kansas State uh the ball went ay and went under I guess or into the Dugout you know so they Advanced the runner B mogen I believe was rounding second and he could have come home right if he’s already passed second base by the time that ball how that works it was I’m trying to think it was mlin that rounded second and he I remember watching it just cuz I was kind of looking for that he was not uh he was on his way to third base or he was rounding second kind of on his way to third typically in that situation they just kind of give you your base like uh it would have been pretty wild I mean and he wasn’t going to score if it had bounced like if it had stayed in play like it was going to score um I’m not saying it was a big deal but I was just I was making sure cuz I thought for whatever reason if if you had already touched second after the ball got stuck then he would be able to advance home I could be completely wrong about that or could Advan the third I should typically you just get the base the the base that you were attempting you know basically you were attempting to go to uh and you know the guy who was at first gets to go to Second there um but yeah I mean also Ben tried to pull a fast one on the third base umpire just kind of like tried to drift home and he was like nope nope nope right here right here um I think you know if there’s one thing so like you know it sucks that this season always the season that’s how baseball season Works where you have a full sample size of 60 games or you’re living and dying with this team and then it all comes down to such a small sample size um so maybe it’s just me kind of being delusional and wanting to believe in something but uh there were a lot of times throughout this game where guys would come up to bat and I would just feel that something good was going to happen which I’m going to be honest with you as Homer as I am wasn’t something I felt a lot this season you know like there weren’t a ton of times where I was like man Hudson white that dude’s about about to crush one uh peyon Stova obviously is now one for nine here in the postseason so we’re still kind of waiting for some of that that uh we’re still waiting on the stove get to get hot it’s preheating at the moment but there’s just a lot of guys who you’re confident when they’re at the plate right now with this Arkansas lineup so it does suck that like they really are peing at the right time they are like when we all season long when we talked about this pitching staff and this offense and would they have enough hitting like if you had told me this is what they would be getting I was like that’s probably enough I mean especially on tonight’s game if you told me this morning Arkansas score six I’m like take it it’s just a matter if they if they won by four five or six I mean you I just really they have they have hitting now to where they could get it done if if the pitching just was what has been I tell you man it’s a cruel world we live in isn’t it it just is a Cru World got to get that Flex Seal like John where you just like guys cooked like let’s just kind of move on I mean I kind of thought he was cooked to be honest I mean that was my first impression again I was more surprised about BBY coming in like that that cuz I wouldn’t even have guessed that that was a guy looking at the who they had in the bullpen and everything but you know like I don’t know it just that is it’s a weird thing because we have not seen that from Hagen this year so it’s like I I don’t know what the protocol is we haven’t seen Hagen get shelled like that and I I say shell but still like giving up 600 runs like sh yeah I mean just we haven’t seen it yeah for was it four hits is what it ended up being it’s just kind of crazy and two of those I mean you had the which by the way there’s so many plays I kind of forgot about this one they had a Runners on first and third and they did the safety squeeze and the guy bunned it foul for strike two and I was like oh they’re they’re going to take it off he ends up getting it down and spray Glock comes up uh and his you know it’s it’s tough to do those flip things and like you know not not an error by any means uh but it’s like man I think a good flip probably beats him but there were just so many like swing moments in this game pretty much all of which went against Arkansas just kind of crazy yeah he said there’s three hits out there that if they go five feet more Arkansas has home runs and they win this game and then we’re not even having a discussion but and that one they just hit it to the wrong part of the park I cannot believe that cold pepper cold pepper ball got out of there I I mean even when it happened uh by the way Ty wism did y’all know I didn’t notice it live until I saw it on Twitter after that Ty wiar lost his glove when he was going for that uh that home run he like went up to go get it he was damn close if he had gotten there a step earlier which like I’m not you know knocking him for not but if he were just happen to be there a little bit earlier he was able to set up he probably makes the play but his glove got taken completely off his hand yeah okay I did see that but I mean it goes back to like you know they this is just part of it but you know this was yesterday with the weather that they had and the wind was blowing they those things probably go home runs but it’s not how it works I mean they scored those six runs in like 5 minutes of real time yeah it was just like it was so quick it was just massive Qui man uh I mean and especially cuz when arkans got those two runs it kind I almost tweeted out like this feels like an insurmountable lead like I it really feel like but and then it went from like oh they might get a run here oh they’re going to tie it and oh crap and they took the lead and it was like 32 and then boom Kansas state had seven scoreless innings in this game and one like I mean it’s just just stuff like that man okay a bunch of you see a bunch of people asking you know in trip Conley says who do we try and throw these next few games starting wise so I’m going to on the Fly try and concoct 27 Innings Worth to pitch in for Arkansas you ready for this one all okay so I’m going to go Gage wood I’m going to go five innings out of Gage wood and I think I say four you say four now when you say four are you saying like he’s going to get pulled after four Innings due to Performance or like that okay I think it’s going to get a little dicey you think it’s going to get a little dicey after four okay so you’re AR’s got a big league kind of like happened against Simo last time I think AR is going to get the lead offense is going to go but then he’s going to start giving up a few runs here and there where are you thinking Innings wise for gagewood tomorrow just gut feel I’d be happy if he got four so four we’ll go four for Gage here Cody Frank is just I mean he’s got to if you’re gonna get 27 out or 27 times three is that 81 if you’re going to get 81 outs and we’re giving 12 to we’re giving 12 to gagewood let’s count strikes actually let’s count strikes we’ll go 243 strikes that’s how many you need uh but no so you’re getting four Innings out of Gage wood uh let’s get three out of Cody Frank and when I say three out of Cody Frank people may scoff at that a little bit I’m expecting it to be like a solid nine to four at this point you know middle Innings therey lead um and I think you just let your offense Mash uh which frankly it’s been doing I mean they scored six runs which may not you know qualify as matching uh they have 29 hits in these two games here in this Regional uh they have like three guys on base every freaking inning like they have been theyve been swinging the bats well did they have 29 hits in SEC play combined I mean I mean that’s they did but just still some crazy uh and they scored zero runs in the finale against Alabama who got eliminated today shout out to them um which like we’re by the way we touched like throughout the show a lot this year we used to t you know touch on all the SEC teams we ain’t got time for any of that BSA we’re in the fox old boys we’re in the trenches uh but okay we got three from Cody Frank and that’s where I think that three is where it really separates and Arkansas is able to build you know so that’s seven Innings going into that eighth inning I think Arkansas’s up like 134 five I see J Wu just throw throw me out there like if you’re up that much just anybody take take burn a red shirt on some player I don’t care and so that those next two innings are kind of interesting there I think you give them to Dylan Carter uh because I think whoever throws those last two innings you throw you know 25 30 pitches or whatever you’re probably still available tomorrow uh and you just simply need somebody to do it um and so then that that gets you through one game it feels like the key is to have a comfortable lead cuz you you don’t want to be a one two Run game cuz then you know you got to go to like whatever now I’m thinking about like I know as crazy as it sounds and this is a wild thing to like predict so I don’t I’m not necessarily doing that I really don’t think it’s out of out of question for Gage wood and Cody Frank to just two-piece this game or Dylan Carter or whoever it is like I just think like you really do need to kind of do what they did today and just kind of get extended outings from multiple guys and in a game where your offense is scoring a lot which again I’m just kind of assuming they will cuz they freaking better I have to um so I’m just kind of assuming that Arkansas is going to have guys in there like Cody Frank who just going to throw strikes and kind of just eat Innings up uh so I think with Cody Franken there I think you probably just throw him 100 pitches like as many pitches as he can throw and you know again it’s kind of wild to predict something like that but I’m just going to give you those three names I think those three names need to get you through the first game and then you can kind of assess from there cuz in that second game you’re against Kansas State you’re kind of you know in a situation so like gagles on the on the table Fouch is on the table Stone hes and hasn’t thrown it all farity only threw 17 you know 16 17 pitches yesterday uh even Mesa Molina is potentially on the table probably would like to give him an extra day rest everyone’s favorite pitcher will McIntyre who shout out to Madison McIntyre repping the Hogs today uh if you if you were uh anywhere around the hog pin and saw annati State Sports shirt that was Will McIntyre’s father who uh I I told him he was a celebrity he didn’t believe me but I was like I think a big deal he’s a big deal he’s a big guy also so he you know he sticks out people see that Natty State Sports shirt uh will McIntyre we don’t even have to like do will McIntyre conversation you need outs from him he’s going to be willing to take the ball if there’s one dude who’s going to want to take the ball it’s going to be will McIntyre I mean do you start him in that second game who the hell think you do I think you do I think you actually do especially and look the leash can be for everyone that hates will magy it can be as short as you want that leash to be maybe it’s five outs maybe it’s five innings uh we’re talking about a dude who has thrown seven innings in an elimination game of it goes back to he’s thrown a complete game in his Arkansas career and he’s also had outings where he hasn’t gotten anyone out so it’s like he literally has done everything everything a pitcher can do in a baseball game he’s done it uh you’re going to need something out of him wouldn’t that be a nice time for Willie to turn back to clock a little bit and when I say turn back the clock I mean turn it back to early April when he was D baseball we talked about this earlier had him as the number two reliever in the country when they did their like midseason power rankings of each position um so I mean seriously so for so for that first game I said Gage wood Cody Frank and Dylan Carter I think game two is Will McIntyre uh Christian Fouch Jake fary H Stone huet yeah uh I mean that’s what is that seven names right there probably get you through two games Y and then of course I mean it’s elimination game so if you got to bring in Mason Molina for an out if you got to bring in whoever do it did you mention Coy no I haven’t mentioned Co who’s another guy who’s had extended outings I mean he went three Innings against he went three or four Innings against Mississippi State a few weeks ago he’s another one who you know can kind of get you anywhere from one to 15 oce who knows well again it goes back also to Kansas State I know they’re not a great hitting team no they’re really not that’s that’s what I’m saying like it’s not like you’re going to be going up against TCU of last year like you’re going up against the Kansas State team which you these guys should be able to shut him down like if Will McIntyre is going to have a game it needs to be against Kansas State I mean it has to be yeah I mean and also just I mean we always we always say with Will McIntyre and like we say it like kind of you know jokingly a little bit but seriously because the Dude shows up in big moments yes when the lights are the brightest the lights aren’t going to be super bright tomorrow afternoon cuz it’ll be the middle of the day but uh the postseason this is WI will McIntyre shows up I mean seriously though like if he goes out there and throws four Innings I’m not going to be stunned I don’t think anybody should be uh but I just you know you you’re you’re talking about all these guys we listed what seven eight guys there that are going to have to try and piece these two games tomorrow together but let’s say Arkansas gets through to it then you’re looking at Monday where you’ve got Molina available Gabe GLE who might make his first career freaking start uh Ben BBY who is you know through 39 pitches today he’ll be he’ll be available on Monday uh you know whoever you don’t use out of that crew that seven seven eight guys that we listed I’m assuming some of them are going to have shorter outing so you could potentially have them and then you might have the big dog Hagen waiting uh in the eighth or ninth inning like all a sudden when it’s like nine innings and you’ve got your entire freaking roster available it’s like dude f it Ben ml take the bump man he had a few solid Innings last year what do you think Hagen touches on the radar if you just bring him out four the ninth to close one who knows cuz I mean like I don’t know what his how his body’s like on like a day or two’s rest or whatever but given the like adrenaline and especially because this game would be happening in like at like 900 p.m. so he’ probably ripping coffee all day just trying to like stay wired uh with his season on the line I really think I really think he would come in and touch 100 on two days notice like I really think uh and like you know I mean if if the game’s like 10 if it’s like 10 n in the final inning like and and he’s and it’s it’s like do or die yeah I think he’s just going to be I’m going to throw my arm off to get this but well I mean and ultimately guys I mean figure out what the hell to do with Virginia who who who won that game today Virginia did Virginia won okay and& M just won in Extra Innings Texas just absolutely choked it away in the yeah it was like a pass ball I think ended up being the yeah so you know how depressing this is Curtis and this is this is real life I have no idea what happened in the Strickland Costa fight and I have no idea what happened in the makev porier I’m nervous I don’t want to check I don’t I want to check but I won’t say anything I feel like if Dustin were the lightweight champion of the world I would have gotten seven phone calls by now but uh I have not so uh it is what it is uh man I hope they’ve got some good grub tomorrow in the uh in the old hospitality room Slim Chickens today wasn’t too bad wasn’t too bad um but guys we talked a lot about pitching and kind of what Arkansas is going to need from their arms which is kind of what you think when you when you think about having a string together three straight games of of play here offensively Arkansas got some good moments here today ultimately didn’t get enough John is there is who’s who’s going to be the hero tomorrow the guy that has the atat that swings the season who’s going to be the guy you’ve got your eye on I’m going to I said it yesterday and it didn’t happen and I’m going to do it again it’s gonna be stove sto I got cuz you have to have him be great like I know it’s easy to say about everybody but it’s like stove all this is this is his time man you got to be great and and if you’re still in that lead off spot you got to set the tone like you got you just got to find a way so I’m hoping I’m hoping it’s him but I’m also I I don’t know it’s but Ben mcglaughlin too like it’s like dude you know how good he is how capable he is and he had such a bad bad game today but I think it’s got to be one of those two guys offensively just to be consistent I’m going to go with the young man who I who I love I truly love this young man uh he’s had two hits in each of the last two games uh he leads Arkansas in home runs he leads Arkansas in RBI he leads Arkansas in swag uh he leads Arkansas in cool factor and everything uh he’s been playing a damn good shorts this uh this postseason as well theoy man I think uh I think I I said it to someone I don’t remember who I was talking to but I should have should have written it down cuz it was a good thought but I’m glad I remembered it now I told someone I was like I think this postseason is going to be a big moment where people around the country find out about Veo ly because he’s a draft he’s not draft eligible he’s a sophomore who will assumingly be a big draft prospect in next year’s draft potentially a first second round pick uh I think this is kind of when he announces himself to the world I mean people know about him that have been following college baseball but I feel like he’s the guy who when he gets going it just kind of takes this offense to another level uh he had some good swings here today I think he’s got two I predict him have three for the weekend he’s got a hit two tomorrow at least um I I I want to see him make it happen oh I’m G I’m going to do with something negative too by the way if Arkansas loses a game tomorrow whether it’s first game second game whatever if their season ends tomorrow this is going to be the most disappointing by far postseason of Dave Van Horn St year I think it’s got to be d i I think when you take into account blame pron expectations the season I mean they were you know they the top five team in the country all year um the fact that this team is like built in a lab for postseason like it’s like they they check all the boxes and the fact that they got a cakewalk freaking Regional you know like uh and look when and look I will remind y’all of this whenever Arkansas wins these next three games that this was a cakewalk that they made not a cakewalk uh but man it’s this would be this would be the most disappointing the stinker of all stinkers and it would be one where it would it would just be such a there would be so much pressure on the off season uh and as someone who like truly like genuinely loves this program like it would really suck to really swallow that yeah because whoever because if Arkansas does not come out of this Regional whoever it is they’re not winning the Super they’re done Virginia is going to make quick work of Kansas bro quick work
