the ladies right behind keter already at the turn making her way back once again 96 ft before round number two on that concept two rower 600 m is what’s needed gab we got to go unbroken segments between the tap lines for your ladies if not they got to go back to that previous line as kenter mounts back up on the rower 600 M at 120 ft as our judges move those Lane markers a little further [Music] away Curt stad is currently leading Clos behind the lane 10 Morgan Porter followed by scuds in one these athletes now working on that 600 me row before returning to those handstand [Music] walks time to be 928 a solid time out of heat number one but our ladies right here in Heat number two look to be slightly ahead of that pace got to have a good day with our gymnastics movements get up and get settled that 120 ft round number two down and back these athletes focusing on Long strides making the most of every pull waiting to see who judges hand goes in the air first going into it kurtter had a good 10 plus second [Music] lead Cur Center your leader but aiyah Mo and latee number seven was close to follow dismounting the rower and hands are up for kurur stter Kurt St still with the only judge’s hand in the air as she will finish that roll and move on to those handstand walks hands in the air for scuds for Porter and for canac but Kurt ster is not [Music] dropping 120 ft down and around dein Kim now off of the Row first one inverted in that number two position but Lane number 10 Morgan Porter moving fast as well just one lane over Aaliyah Miller in Lane seven in Lane eight Haley canac everybody too close to call but her leader in Lane number four G Kur stter heading back for her final round Porter currently leading the rest in that second on our way back she more than halfway back to that rower Curt stead are getting started on that row that final row of 800 M Porter will finish those hand walks to get back to that rower chasing down Curt stadter man gave Morgan Porter steady fast and smooth as ice back to that rower a big 800 me m is what’s needed on this concept to rower for that third and final round once your athletes Dismount that rower it’s a full 72 ft to the finish line before they can run across and finish up event number four coming up on the 6-minute mark time to beat 928 3 and 1/2 minutes from now your leader C Center in Lane number four your closest one to finishing and looking to have that new time here for event number four [Music] you know here at the West Coast Classic we are three events down three to go it is anybody’s game kurtt stadter focused looking to wrap up those 800 met rows and get into those handstand walks and looks to beat that time we’re approaching that 7 Minute Mark time to beat 928 [Music] once again always looking for those judges hands to go up for the rower signaling 100 m or less remaining on this third and final round of 800 M and a 72t handstand walk how you guys feeling this morning beautiful day what I say we’re going to get him all the way through to the end plenty of time on that time cap of 13 minutes not even at the 11 minute Mark Britney Chestnut out of iron Oak CrossFit needs a little Carson love here this morning 2 minutes remaining at just about 15 ft to go Carson Make some noise for Britney cha hey Gabe that’ll do it for Heat number two buddy don’t [Music] gowhere ready to go e [Music] [Music] w [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] n [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the West Coast Classic is underway for the final day of competition for the individual athletes as eight women are on the heels of punching their tickets to the CrossFit Games I’m Lauren khil alongside Adrien Conway Mike Arseno is down on the floor we still have half of the event for today but but we’re kicking off with event 4 it is a four time 400 m row 96 ft handstand walk 600 me row 120t handstand walk 800 me row and then right to the Finish Line a 72t handstand walk Adrien what is our go Ruck step to success in this one well we got two of them Lauren we are going to focus on a reckless rower a lot of times we see rowing in a workout per time and we’re like hey this is where you get conservative not today you got to push the pace and then you’ve got to brace and breathe these athletes are going to have to brace their midline so that they can have maximum control on their hands taking a look at your lane assignments right in the middle is going to be your leader in 11th place Rebecca fusel but right behind her right next to her Gabrielle Spence an athlete we’re going to be keeping our eye on in this heat but first more on fusa with Mike on the floor thank you very much Lauren Rebecca currently 25 four points out of a qualifying spot she made it to the games in 2022 missed out on qualifying last year because in her words she wasn’t strong enough so that was a major focus in her offseason training so much so that in her training post on Instagram she uses the hashtag big Becca that hard work evidently paying off in event number two 50 front squats at 155 lbs Rebecca took second in that event she’ll need that big strength in an events five and six coming up later today building Big B up but we are looking at 33 points behind is Gabrielle Spence that’s right and we know a few things about her and one of them is that she is a Mayhem athlete and if we know anything learn historically about Mayhem athletes they’re known for training at high volume she’s going to be plenty comfortable going into this final day of competition and she’s probably been upside down quite a bit I’m excited to see what she’s got when it comes to these handstand walks and hustle up is the official timekeeper of the CrossFit semi-finals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit World Tour visiting CrossFit gyms around the globe terms and conditions apply athletes they are taking on a 400 met row an athlete we’re also keeping our eye on Adrien is 49 points behind that cut line Danny Spiegel looking to punch her ticket back to the CrossFit games that’s right a a games veteran Danny Spiegel is a Workhorse she has got high levels of power and potential when it comes to both expressing her Fitness on a rower and with a barbell so she we’re going to have eyes on her a few times today Lauren but right now because of that Reckless rower Pace it’s one of the focuses we got to assume that she’s going to have an advantage as you sit down and get to this modality so the biggest question is how’s the handstand walking and will she a be able to keep the duress and Pace there um as she exits this row after the first round time to beat is 828 from Olivia Cur Setter out of the previous heat and for context she was just 4 seconds behind Laura horat time from last week you know that that was made up on the rower oh my goodness absolutely and and that’s the thing is that you got to put an onus on the pace that you row so many of these women have fantastic skills inverted which means upside down on their hands that that’s where if you get too far behind too many seconds behind you just can’t make it up so it’s all about the pace that you’re willing to open up with this workout and then the question is can you sustain it throughout Mariana Mesa to the bottom of your screen in the purple she is our over she is our lead first to the handstand walk Danny Spiegel is close behind as well as Trista Smith at the top of your screen in the green first back to the rower first opportunity here competing against the individuals as a former teen athlete just 18 years old that’s right in her making a a uh debut here in the open division she uh she made that transition from competing as a team now now she showed great capacity last year having an opportunity to compete head to-head but wasn’t quite there now this year she’s got no option she can’t just bow out and decide hey I’m going to go teen this is it she’s in the open division she is fighting to the nail for an opportunity to make it back to the CrossFit Games and she was at semi-finals last year that was her first semi-final Elite appearance but as you mentioned first time that she has to just compete as an individual in event one she took a 21st a 12th and then a 19th still sitting in the third after this they will recede for the two remaining events on the day and that’s got to be a strong consideration especially for veteran athletes when you consider hey I’ve got to make a push in this workout because I want to be head-to-head and side by side with the athletes that are really looking to put up the best scores in the next two workouts to allow myself to be pushed off of their intensity Mesa holding a 157 155 Pace on the rower this one is 600 M so some context here Lauren as we’re watching her pull 155 is a pace now if you’re a crossfitter and you’ve been putting in some mileage on the rower you understand how difficult it might be to go from a 155 Pace let’s say to a 152 Pace it’s only going to really reward you about 5 to 7 seconds in a 600 met row but you see in this workout you can’t ignore that type of Separation sometimes when there’s a lot of transitions or there might be more movements included hey you can hide in the rower row a little slower get off more recovered and do your thing you cannot do that in workout number four and I think it’s programmed in a very beautiful way to highlight that you’ve got to lean into discomfort here and trust your ability to get upside down and unless you’re an athlete that’s going to be running on your hands and significantly faster than the other athletes you have to push the row hand in the air for Rebecca fusel hand in the air for Danny Spiegel andisa Smith but who gets upside down first it’s going to be Danny Spiegel but trissa Smith she says I am going to run on my hands she is and you’ll notice the cycling even through their legs right it almost looks like they’re a little bit loose up top they’re kicking their heels triss’s literally int and intentionally creating momentum so that she can Propel herself forward step by step there will be gymnast people with athletic backgrounds in a formal gymnast setting that are like what in the world is she doing that is the ugliest handstand walk I’ve ever seen no folks she already understands what she needs to do to get where she needs to be as fast as possible and she’s using her leverage in order to get that done so it might not be what we’re used to seeing on the competition floor to meet but it’s going to work here in this event and we just spoke about if you’re going to not go as fast on the rower you have to be able to run on your hands and even though her and Danny Spiegel picked up at almost the exact same time trissa was able to get at least three pulls into the row before Danny Spiegel even got back to the row that’s right she probably banked about a solid 8 to 10 seconds on Spiegel on the rower now here is the interesting piece Lauren is that now we’re going to see that expression of a bit of endurance and power Blended together on the longest now row of the workout so have they paced appropriately tristal looks very dialed in as you can see her eyes set on her monitor that monitor gives her feedback she knows exactly what her stroke rate is per minute she knows exactly how hard she needs to pull to hit her intended Pace now the the question is are some of these other women athletes pulling at a harder Pace cuz we can’t always assume that just cuz someone’s moving faster physically that they’re actually pulling faster on the rower so something we have to watch and Trista Smith holding a 153 on the row this as you mentioned the longest row of the workout the last row of the workout 800 M before then they will have the 72t handstand walk to the Finish Line as the official Footwear and a heral partner of CrossFit and the CrossFit Games go Ruck wants to give your gym the chance to win the official shoe of CrossFit head over to go ru.com CrossFit and enter for a chance to win 50 free pairs of rough Runners for you and your [Music] affiliate Spiegel holding a 149 pace and Adrien we have something new for the broadcast we have live probabilities for athletes based on their current place on the leaderboard and the predicted outcomes of the remaining events based on athletes historical performance for Danny Spiegel at this point she has a 28% chance to qualify to the CrossFit Games okay okay now of course hey we’re big fans of data we love data measurable observable and repeatable that is one of the foundation principles in CrossFit that’s how we get better and that’s how we know but also these athletes got their mind and their body and they’re going to be willing to break some of those probabilities and statistics right and that’s what Spiegel’s trying to do we watch we got a glimpse at her monitor 148 to 150 looks to be the pace that she is sustaining right now and that will be okay and she’s jumping down into the 147’s 200 M left to go for Spiegel and keep in mind we are at the 7 and 1/2 minute Mark the time to beat from the previous heat Olivia ceter 8 minutes and 28 seconds [Music] Trista got a hand up with the hand up that’s right but we know from previous rounds that Trista Smith can out hand sandwalk the speed of Danny Spiegel that’s right and even with the way the hands went up right Spiegel has closed the Gap now on some of the rowing so it’s going to be a tight race but you’re right Trista right now seems to have the upper hand when it comes to speed TR lower and there she goes this will be her last hand sandwalk to the Finish to potentially take on Olivia curs said her no she won’t do it but she might take the Heat win as she gets the final length she’ll have to cross the red line and then her chick Tim will stop a submers CW 8 minutes and 37 seconds unofficially Danny Spiegel just one more step 846 unofficially for the one and two in Heat number three three for event four of our women what a Showcase from those ladies there that was that was an awesome race going to be a strong day I think for both of them with half of the workouts left on the line that’s right we got Lam here making her way towards the Finish Line hands are starting to get a little wide Lauren we talked about that earlier when theam Creeps in go 912 unofficially for lerum and Mesa 9116 unofficially Sydney molish making her way trying to stay on broken all the way through the Finish Line Fus Somers roll to the Finish making sure that the chip timer on their ankle is what comes through first that will stop their time so as you see them bending their knees getting their feet forward that’s going to be important as we head into the final heat and start comparing those times as well Adrien yeah that’s right we speculate a little bit is it best to do a forward roll and in fact we decided no no with the distance from the red line to the Finish mat being so close just take an extra step on your hands and it will get you there to trip the timer even faster Kelsey kill on your screen looking to punch her first individual ticket to the CrossFit Games a former team athlete comes down before that last section that’s right and so you guys are aware they’re accredited every time they pass one of the yellow lines they can kick up and they’re not penalized and have to go back so that was part of the technique there that Kelsey executed she was trying to keep herself from failing that potential last section of the hand stand walk and another athlete we’re going to keep our eye on for a strong set of events for Kelsey Keel Emily white in the purple shorts our final athlete we’re we’re watching cross our Finish Line and keep three of four for the women and she will be in under the cap but that race between Danny SPO and Trista Smith that’s what we came to see that is what we came to see the final day Lauren we’ve got two more events left for these ladies that just took the floor and oh by the way we got one more heat coming around the corner yes we do Danny Spiegel though first off the row right next to the Young Gun Trista Smith that’s right and this was kind of the story early and we stayed with it late these two were going head to-head the entire time Spiegel seemed to have the slight Edge she would sit down and row at a more aggressive Pace each and every round really long strokes maximizing the range of motion for that paddle to travel toward the row and all the way back into extension but this was the story line Trista Smith urgency on and off the floor and then when her hands touch that mat I kid you not she might be handstand walking faster than I could jog from side to side so she put on a clinic there with the feet running in the air it made her hands move forward through the floor and what a great finish and what a great way to start the day for a young athlete unofficially second best time Christa Smith 836 we’ll see if that Stacks up or where it saacks up for the final heat stay with us we will be right back for the final heat of the women on event 4 [Music] [Music] [Music] the beautiful Santa Monica appear on the final day of competition at the West Coast Classic North America West semi-final presented by go Ruck I’m Lauren khil alongside Adrien Conway Mike Areno is on the ground and it has already been an exciting final day with three events left up for grabs for these athletes but a stud so far the women hadie Cano a third a seventh a fourth place finish that’s right she’s a face that we’re not familiar seeing at the top of the leaderboard but here’s what’s beautiful about this we are going to Crown the fittest who performs statistically best across six test she doesn’t got to win any particular event but statistically best across the6 and she might be punching a ticket not just to the CrossFit games but she could end up with a W here at the West Coast Classic yeah she could and she is going to be in your center lane but overall Canadian Hattie Cano with other familiar faces in the mix Alex gazan we also have Emily rol Ariel loen Bethany Flores but right at that cut line that’s where we’re going to be keeping our eyes Kyra Milligan 210 points just behinder lindsy Martin 198 all of the points are going to matter with three event left on the line but what they have right now is event number four four time 400 m on the row a 96t handstand walk then back to the row for 600 M and then a down and back of 120t handstand walk last row 800 M the longest one 72t handstand walk to the Finish go recepts a success what are we looking at Adrien well you know it they got to be Reckless on the rower they’ve got to lean into a case of discomfort this is not a place where you can save energy and expect to recover then they’ve also got to brace and breathe which means they got to stay tight through their midline regardless of what they do with their legs they got to stay brace so they can make good haste on their hands here are your lane assignments keeping in mind only eight women are going to punch their ticket to the CrossFit games today so keeping an eye on those outside athletes but for more on Hattie Cano we’re going to toss it down to Mike Areno on the floor thank you Lauren yes had is in first place through the midpoint of this competition she was actually High receded last year coming out of the open but she told me she felt she was burnt out mental mentally and physically by the time semis rolled around she finished in 18th Place this year she spent more time outside of the gym she feels fresher mentally and physically that is paying off and she doesn’t feel pressure with her position on the leaderboard she actually feels quite confident that she can stay in the top eight by the end of day today and get a first appearance of the CrossFit Games 10 Kyra Milligan right on that cut line should have a strong second day and again in the final heat adding in an advantage that’s right and and Kyra being an athlete Lauren that has been to the CrossFit Games she was there on a team right and we’re starting to see this within our space athletes that have potential and they recognize that in themselves but they want to get experience they join a team they get the experience they they get to taste the CrossFit Games in a different way and they rub shoulders with some of the fittest men and women on earth and and they’re like you know what I can do that I can have that and that’s what Kyra is trying to achieve this year is she is trying to execute at the highest level for herself so now she gets a chance as an individual hustle up is the official timekeeper of the CrossFit semifinals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit World Tour visiting CrossFit gyms around the globe terms and conditions apply and we spoke with Kyra’s coach earlier today kefir Lamy with underdogs Athletics this is a major glow up over the past couple of years just two years ago she was training alone out of Utah decided she wanted to be competitive moved out to Las Vegas to train in person with her coach and he said she’s been working specifically on her weaknesses which include running handstand walking those long endurance runs and this time last year he would have expected her to take a 30th in the first event with running but seeing her finish 18th they already know that something is working her judge’s hand is in the air as she will approach her handstand walks after this row that’s right and we’ve got hands up oh yeah Al r [Music] on in the middle of your screen right next to her in Lane seven Abby doit but in Lane number eight arel loen flying on her hands literally running literally running on her hands head in a complete neutral position gaze looking almost behind her not in the direction that she wants to go or her hands this helps save tremendous amounts of energy in her traps and her upper shoulders so she can keep that pace as the workout continues to go on wow she’s already on her row couple Strokes in before the next set of four athletes can get to their rowers what you’re looking at folks is a 600 met Row for the second round and this is where loan’s going to settle into a comfortable place here looking from side to side now you got to have a little bit of awareness she’s trying to see hey who is where right I’m sitting on the rower I’m going to hold the pace that I know is sustainable for me but equally to her it will pay off for her to understand who is ahead in points and where they’re coming in on these handstand walks as well it’ll help her make some executive choices particularly going into the final round as we see get a glimpse at her monitor holding somewhere between a 153 probably and a 155 pace momentus is the official Sports Nutrition and supplement provider of CrossFit momentus offers the highest quality thirdparty tested supplements in nutrition designed for everyday performance use code cf20 or text 30493 for 20% off momentous product something you often look at to see as a competitor and for me personally as a coach Lauren is the athletes breathing pattern I talked pretty extensively about this with Chris Henshaw on Friday as we were watching him running but hey rowing as a modality just as important these athletes got to get upside down and one of the steps to success is brace and breathe and if you’re not in control even as you’re sustaining a threshold Pace on the rower I’ll tell you what the movement to follow regardless of what it is is going to go in shambles so we’re seeing some great control from these ladies they are focused gazan oh man Alex gazan isn’t here just to be on the podium she wants to be on on the top of the podium we spoke to her this morning as she was entering the venue and said her Cals were a little sore from yesterday but was able to warm them up a lot of bounding and running on the first day but uh she’s looking to have a solid final day of competition with this one of three events on the line and I’d like to give a little bit more context and insight Lauren to that what you just shared she specifically said at 3:00 a.m. she realized that her calvs were Sor Lorn and it was because she woke up for a little snacky snack at 3:00 a.m. as maybe that is a key to enhanced recovery folks in the middle of competition the snacky snack Ariel loen still running on her hands first one to go upside down wow I mean it’s the same style that we saw in round one loose legs firm through the midline heading a completely neutral position looks up just to check where her hands are going to be so she can finish and it’s just a slight pivot she’s right back to work and when you see some of the best hand sand walkers in our sport comes to mind Danielle Brandon she also hand sand walks looking all the way back not looking at the floor as she moves that’s right and you’ll see this even in the walls of the affiliate it it is very common and very easy to want to Arch your head and look ahead where your hands need to be as you gain comfort and you gain capacity you want to bring that head to as much of a neutral position as possible and and these ladies are clearly being a great example of that right now time to beat Olivia Cur Setter from a previous heat 8 minutes and 28 seconds Olivia ketter entered her row at 503 three Ariel loen just a couple seconds behind that time so she is on Pace to potentially push that top time Six Women now on their rowers ready to rock and there’s Dylan Ariel’s husband one of the funniest people on social media if you don’t find follow Ariel you should you’ll see a lot of him and a great support system she trains out of her gym at home the Lion’s Den is what she calls it and she also through trial and error has wrote her own programming that is not something that you see at the highest level it’s not but I’ll tell you what it can bring great Advantage for you personally you know Ariel and her husband both do a wonderful job of being an example of keeping this highlevel pursuit of being the fittest on Earth light-hearted it’s a part of their life but it’s not their entire life and I think that’s a breath of fresh air with where we’re at the professionalism that many athletes go into day in and day out it’s needed but hey everybody needs a little bit of balance and you can use the code wcc2 for a 20% off discount on the online level one visit crossfit.com to register for their course final row here 800 M before then a 72t handstand walk so right from the starting mat all the way down to the Finish Line is what we’re looking at your overall leader though Pattie Cano and she has a cool story Adrian I spoke with one of her uh students in her classes she coaches at CrossFit FR framework and the individual I spoke with said she was previously a wildfire firefighter where essentially in Canada they would ship you out to rural areas to fight fires and now she’s fighting on the CrossFit floor and based on our probability for athletes based on their current place on the leaderboard and the predicted outcomes she doesn’t just have a high percentage of qualifying but a 15% chance to win this whole ding thing wow I mean what you described there is it it’s suiting it’s fitting right she’s number one halfway through this competition and she’s also a superhero so fantastic still holding a 155 154 Pace on the rower for a loen as she nears into the 800 M time check just about 8 minutes I think kurur Setter could still hold on to that top overall time of 828 yeah it’s going to be close she’s going to have to have urgency in this walk but you know she’s got the speed she showed it already let’s see what we [Music] got and There She Goes [Music] rol was right there clearly closed the gap on the rower but it’s loan with the speed on the hands moving on a mission and she will cross at 8:33 unofficially roll to the front wow Bethy shadburn Bethany Bethany Flores locking it in Alex gazan locking it in all under that 9 Minute mark and here comes Hattie right down the [Music] center and she will Abby D right there as well making her way and it was close towards the Finish wow another fast race if you blink it’s over yep Milligan still working on her hands a movement that Herer coach have put a lot of work in in the past year in the past two years yeah and she’s finishing but you’ll notice see how straight she keeps her arms luren the other athletes that were moving faster they get the bend in their elbow as they lift their hand it allows them to cover a little bit more ground each and every stride and that adds up in a race like this and big smile on her face it looks like she was certainly proud with that work that she put in Lane 10 here Jamie Chevy locking it in just about 9 minutes 45 seconds with one one athlete left two athletes left Caitlin Bernardin right there in lane four yep still working away and then and then it looks like we’ve got still lindsy Martin as well finishing up on their 800 meter row and Bernardin will take a breath oh everybody knows what that feels like to certainly do right before you kick up and and and let me show you I mean look we’re seeing this right here but that that gap between that mat and that start line that takes tremendous accuracy should do it fast and then like not get your fingers on it and clearly that’s part of standard that’s why she had to hit a reset button and athletes don’t need to go unbroken but for most of the athletes that is the strategy we have seen unless there’s a slight trip up she’ll have one more entire mat to go as she crosses that red line and she’ll do it [Music] [Music] hand in the air now for Lindsay Martin two minutes until the time cap for event one on the day one of three I’m curious Adrien knowing that they have the snatch ladder up next are these hand sandw walks going to impact that it certainly will impact to a degree but it’s not something that these athletes could just make a conscious choice and say I’m going to save my shoulders for later I’m going to walk a little slower for later and the reason being is because if you want to go to the Cross games you’ve got to fight for every single point so this is those these are those considerations that you build into your training all year long where hey do we train snatching yeah of course you train snatching but do we always do it fresh absolutely not we cannot do that because we’ve got to be prepared for the unknown and unknowable in this sport in which building upper body fatigue is a part of that and Martin came down right before her last stretch then gets back up finishes with more than a minute to spare under the cap and that will do it for event four of heat four for the elite women at the West Coast Classic an 832 95 that will be enough for second overall edging out Trista Smith from the previous heat it was a race out the gate and a very close one Al beit the whole entire way but it was Ariel loen who gained control was able to stay completely stoic and patient on the row and she made the separation on her hands this is Ariel loen fourth top two with an event with handstand walking so when it’s out there and Ariel knows it it doesn’t matter what other modality is present she is going to be running on her hands and she did so all the way through the finish line and Mike is on the floor with our winner of heat four Ariel second place on event number four and your last three positions at the CrossFit Games 14th 11th and then third last year as you get older how are you able to keep improving your performance I don’t think about it so much I know there’s a lot of younger athletes out here but I’m just having fun doing my thing and I’m happy I can still be competitive so you work at at home you write your own programming how do you have the discipline to just ignore your weaknesses and not work on the things that you need to that may be difficult day in and day out in the gym yeah I have people that keep me accountable but I think the biggest thing is like finding what works for you I have a daughter who stays home with me so the peacefulness of working out by myself some people might see as like you lose discipline but for me I thrive under time restraints and just being efficient well thank you very much two events to go and it looks like if if things continue to progress the way they are we’ll see you again at the CrossFit Games coming up in August it’d be a dream thank you guys [Applause] Ariel loens time right in the middle of the two Young Guns Trista Smith and Olivia Cur Setter we have the men coming up next for event four we’ll see you in just a bit [Music] [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] [Music] n [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] down [Music] I flying upside down on his way back to jump back to that rower followed closely by the rest of the pack but I got Lane eight Jacob Marlo as well as oh no he dropped Jacob Marlo’s going to return to that rower nof got off his rower about in that fifth place position but first back back for round number two so making up a lot of time on his handstand walk we’ll see if that plays a factor here in the latter [Music] rounds 2 and 1/2 minutes in round number two your leaders 600 M on that concept two rower [Music] approaching that thre minute Mark we just watched the ladies tackle this event and it is one exciting event these athletes giving us something to cheer for they’re chipping away on that 600 met row waiting to see a judge’s hand in the [Music] air eyes are on Lane number three see if Austin can extend and hang on to that lead as we Dismount here in round number two looking for 600 m and this time a full 120 ft down and back hands are up in Lane number three for n also hand in the air for Jacob Marlo in Lane [Music] eight judges hands in the air all over the place but it’s going to be nof jumping off and back up into those hands Stan walks but Lane eight Jacob Marlo looking to chase him down that’ll call about a 5sec [Music] advantage and extending that lead over Marlo Ed trying to set the time to beat here all the way through we got four total Heats of individual [Music] athletes Marlo currently sitting in second looking to finish those handstand walks close behind them though Nick Thomas in two he will wrap up that handstand walking back to the rower that rounds up your top three just about 40 seconds maybe 42 seconds it took n off to go down and back on that 120 [Music] ft Steven O’Brien at the [Music] turn heading back Zan it back on the rower for his final down of Lane number [Music] three hands are right Austin n Lane number [Music] three almost at the exact same time though Jacob looks like uh Jacob Marlo his Jud his hand went in the air same time and they both will get off the rowers the exact same time it’s a race to the finish here who’s going to cross first 72 [Music] [Applause] ft Marlo with a few feet ahead Marlo will cross unofficial 805 followed by nof no more than maybe one or two seconds behind Marlo just slightly in front of n as Nick Thomas finishes up right around 825 just in lane looking to finish up just ahead of Sam sperlin and he will cross one section to go for Sam spurlin and he will cross 846 unofficial alesandro zanet he will cross followed by Jordan Eldridge few athletes looking to wrap this one up Tucker melar final handstand walk three sections to go final section for Tucker [Music] melmore and Tucker will cross 13 minute cap here we’re approaching that 10-minute mark waiting to see judge’s hand in the air for Steven O’Brien working away on that final [Music] row Marlo unofficially 805 saving a little bit of juice for that final 72t handstand walk turned up the heat there on that final leg [Music] final couple meters for Steven O’Brien out a CrossFit progression about 2 and 1/2 minutes remaining here in Heat number one come on Steven one behind budy [Music] Sten oan wants to get this thing done he’s walking down no hassle quick break [Music] here still got two minutes till cap halfway to go let’s make some noise for Stephen O’Brian [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] 90 seconds [Music] [Music] [Applause] one section remains for o Brian let’s bring him [Music] in 60 seconds to go [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] o Brian will cross and that will do it for Heat number one one more time for these athletes [Applause] a [Applause] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] me oh [Music] the [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] 30 seconds athletes to your start mat [Music] [Music] 10 seconds stand [Music] by all right ladies and gentlemen here we go individual event number four presented by momentous nutrition our athletes working on a 400 me row a 96t handstand walk which one of our athletes is going to hop off of that rower and on to that handstand walk first lot of a wiggle room left on that [Music] leaderboard Sam dancer looking strong with those big long PS Lane number three Justin Rose rose getting it done 400 me going to come real quick as our athletes work to get off of that row and onto that handstand walk first judg hand in the air for a couple of our athletes who’s going to be the first athlete off of the rower here at the 2024 West Coast Classic there it is elen at number 10 and Zachary bunson Sam dancer chasing him down as bunson looking to make the transition back to the ring all the way over the yellow all the way over the yellow Buon getting back [Music] first bunson holding on Mike Evans looking to chase him down but also looks like Lane number three RADS will be the first one back to that rower Rose Looking to finish the story here at the 2024 West Coast Classic roads looking strong as Lane number three the first athlete back to the rower so it goes one roads two Evans three CPS those are your top three athletes here in Heat number two RADS very cerebral as he made the turnaround and sprinted back to the Rogue [Music] ring we are at 2 and 1/2 minutes all eyes are on Lane number three roads just [Music] rose on deck for these athletes is a 600 me row [Music] we have just passed the thre minute Mark Rose your current athlete sitting in first place position in Lane number three waiting to see judge’s hands in the air this is Heat number two coming out of heat number one that time to beat from Jacob Marlo 805 as we are 3 and 1/2 minutes in working on that 600 Rose is Judge hand in the air same with Mike Evans in nine Rose your first athlete back to the road might be the first athlete off of the road Evans trying to hold on to second place as Rose off of the rower and upside down looking to finish the story here at the West Coast Classic by taking first place in Heat number two maybe even the entire event game as Rose turning it around making his way back roads looking to hold on to that lead but no chill in Lane number one Coots kicks right back up takes that second position currently in third Mike Evans making their way back to that rower CS is actually going to catch rad both return to the rower for the final time 800 M row to go Rose got no reps and had to go back allowing Daniel CPS in Lane number one to tie him so we got four athletes back on the road for the final time 800 M on deck for these four athletes CPS and RADS your first placed position with Evans and Bunton tied for third this is the 2024 West Coast Classic this is individual event number four presented by momentus can C pass Rose and RADS hold and regain the lead or will Evans and bunson take over and finish Heat number two on time 6 minutes in time to beat 8:05 athletes all on their final Row rooll for that 800 waiting to see who’s going to be the first off battle between CPS and roads in one and three Road in the zone CPS digging in deep these athletes moving fast and furiously through event number four C in she closer and closer to 800 me Rose big long PS as he tries to hold on to that first minutes [Music] chase looking at the clock as he gets upside down let’s make some noise ladies and [Applause] gentlemen for Chase Smith and that is all Shiro ladies and gentlemen one more time big round of applause for your heat to winner Daniel cous getting it [Music] done ye a [Music] he [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] let [Music] a [Music] [Music] welcome back everybody to the final day of competition here in Carson California for the West Coast Classic I’m Lauren khil alongside Adrian Conway Mike Areno is on the floor 300 points that is what is up for grabs today half of the events left before we punch nine tickets for the men to the CrossFit Games event four four time a 400 met row 96t handstand walk back to the rower for 600 M then on their hands for 120 ft for a hand sandwalk finishing the final round 800 meter row followed by a 72 foot hand Sam walk to the Finish Adrien what are these men looking at for the go Ruck steps to success well there are two focuses and they got to be Reckless on the rower they’re going to go the same distance as the women from earlier but the men you can expect some tighter time frames in regards to the race on the row and of course they got to brace and breathe while they’re upside down this is no place to take your time on your hands and these men are going to be fighting to get into that final heat with only nine tickets on the line and the cut line is going to be difficult but your overall leader in this heat is Max C Max C an athlete that I first got exposer to this year at Water palen I know that he is a he is a serviceman in the Army doing his thing so not quite a full-time athlete like we’re starting to see some come up through our space as he’s got some distractions out there serving our country doing his thing but I watched him compete at a high level at Water pal and and that kind of put him on my radar and right now he’s got to do what he can to move himself up so hopefully he’s in the final heat in the two workouts to come and tutor Magda he is looking to rep punch his ticket to the cross games and hopefully sees that moment that’s right we’ve seen tutor at the Crosser games before not just as an individual but also as a teen and I want to say upside down tutor is fast on his hands we got to watch him as we get going into this particular workout he is an athlete that runs on his hands and we also have in the booth The Buttery Bros Heber and Mars enjoying a beautiful day and Carson of course bright t-shirts and shorts yeah you know we got to come out and come correct we got the outfits on point yeah buttery camouflage at this point yeah true you can never miss you guys in the stand uh what has been your favorite event thus far uh I I think my favorite event of the weekend is going to be the one after this that we have to look forward to which is that snatch ladder that was such a fun event that took place in the Regionals back in the day and I remember uh celebrating every weekend because we went to like five regionals back then you know like that was always such a crowd favorite I can’t wait for that and I this event’s really fun it’s really unique and a cool test we’re watching now well marsten were you were you tempted at all to hop in on the running event and perhaps race someone like you did Frasier on that hand stand walk shuttle run event back in 2016 Ro what’s it like to really have some of the Nostalgia here on oh The Nostalgia is so real man like i’ I’ve bumped into Fraser a couple times I’m like hey man let me know when you want to run it back you know make sure that you’re a little fatigued first and then I’ll race you on foot that’s right athletes finishing up the 400 meter row several hands in the air and then they will advance to a 96t handstand walk it looks like in Lane number two a tutor Magda and he is running on his hands I don’t go that fast you got to keep in mind that your hands must stay within the tape you cannot have a fingertip or hand touch but he is still going to make up time in Lane nine that’s where we see Adam Adam M M Adams that’s right Adam McAdams first to the rower tutor right there side by side and this is where you got to think you got to make some hard choices here eye to eye side to side know where your competitors are and this is where you really have to settle into a bit of an uncomfortable Pace on the row or this middle section 600 M it’s not going to be an ignorable amount of time but it’s an opportunity to create greater separation now after we just saw what tutor Magda is capable of they in lane two he’s just got to make sure that he stays dialed in and accurate while he’s up side down this is like a great example of threshold training you got to stay in the lines tutor stay in the lines jao go and M are sending you to the CrossFit Games in Fort Worth enter to win a VIP trip for two to the CrossFit Games the VIP tickets to the games airfare lodging and a meet and greet with Joo willink head to joof fuel.com viip to [Music] enter for more on traven beton let’s go down to the floor with Mike Arsenal so this is traven’s third appearance at the semi-final he just started competing in CrossFit in 2021 previously to that he was a collegiate baseball player he was an outfielder and he’s always had strength in fact his coach uh Matt from Gold line training first became aware of traven when he saw him perform a 615 lb Den lift so the strength is there what they’ve been working on is the cardo and the skill set they of course are very looking forward to the snatch letter coming up next but also uh the work that he’s put in on H gymnastics movements look for this to be a good one as well for traven with uh the handstand walking throughout this event also this is the first season that he’s fully committed to the sport he coaches at Fogo CrossFit and when he’s not coaching he’s training so this is his full uh 100% effort his first year as trying to compete as a professional in this sport athletes finishing up that 600 met row but tutor Magna the last time we saw him at the CrossFit Games 20 22 where he finished 34th and had quite a successful year or several years when he was a teen athlete back in 2019 18 and 17 right now he is sitting just 63 points outside of a qualifying spot but again 300 points on the line today 300 points on the line and this is one of those unique skill sets that tutor has he is good at particular gymnastics and he’s amazing on a Barb so he looked at this workout a guarantee he was licking his chops he knew it was an opportunity and this is something that we want to see from his maturation Lauren is can he seize the moment because that’s what it’s going to take to be year in and year out of perennial crossby games a leading into this several people said that they were keeping their eye on tutor to win this event the time to beat previous heat Daniel Cook 750 that is what we are going to keep our eye [Music] on can you guys run as fast on your feet as he goes on his hands that is the question I think it’d be a pretty close race there that guy’s moving kicking up dust Trails running on his hands have you guys given any of these a run any of these workouts like formally cuz this is one you know you can just go set the clock and hit it yeah yeah this is one we’re actually probably too yeah we I’ll definitely try this one the one we tried it’s a terrible story but we did event two and we scaled the we to the women’s weight and the the jump up down to 75 double Runners and five less toar I got time cap he got time bring that up my guy why you got to bring that up I’m sorry I just you know I was curious about I know you guys are still out there doing your Fitness and trying to keep your CrossFit abilities as high as possible so you know hey scale for life is what you’re telling me right I’ll say this I had a good time I had a great time it was fun not like a good time in competition but like in life in the center tutor Magda he is your leader next to him on the left John Wood and then on the right traven Benton as these men take down the 800 met Row the longest row of the event and then they will finish with a 72 foot hand sand walk to the Finish yeah and we talk about these these guys are really focused on an opportunity to punch their ticket to the CrossFit Games we got nine spots available on the men’s side Lauren speaking of the rest of the summer what do you guys got planned what’s going on with you the rest of the summer people look forward to yeah so once we figure out who’s all going to the games we like to go out and do visiting uh a lot of these athletes and do data training with them so it’s cool to kind of be able to have those inim settings in their gyms and be able to really expose a lot of the crazy training that they’re going to get into leading into the games we’re hoping to get to Europe so if you guys you know let us know where you want us who from Europe you want us to see and uh get some get some Fitness and sweat with them you know yeah yeah yeah see they like I I love it I clearly am a huge fan of what you guys create and I think that’s a huge inspiration to so much of the community so whichever you know uh these young athletes that we get I guess young and old athletes get an opportunity to punch their ticket to the CrossFit Games it’ll be great to uh to hear more about their lifestyle and of course to dive into some of their training as they prepare for uh to be one of the fittest on Earth John Wood holding a 141 Pace on this 00 middle row but in Lane five Max Creek his judge’s hand is in the air John Wood’s judges hand is in the air and tutor Magus judges hand is in the air it’ll be a race on their hands to the finish and tutor takes a deep breath before he is the first to kick up locking in in 7 and 1/2 minutes he should put up the time to beat with just one more block to go he is in 740 unofficially with the new time to be and I really liked what I saw there from John Wood as well he kind of laid back a bit and was extra aggressive on that last row which is where you can make the biggest time differential because of the 800 M what a finish there by Drake Lewis as well Trayvon Bon right [Music] there and Max cre is in Tristan Harrison is [Music] in Adam McAdams one more block to go and he is in that’s where you that’s where you kind of tow that line with pacing right we watched Adam come in as one of our leaders early and then he was going to be second to last to finish the heat Nick Roberts the last athlete finishing up his hand sandwalk just nine spots available to head to Texas this summer making his way trying to carry the moment man on there with his legs he’s got that nice Arch through his lower body to try to carry him forward and that’ll do it and Roberts is in tutor Magna putting up the time to beat something that he needed going into this final day of competition if he wants to get back to the CrossFit Games 74028 johnwood 746 hey and Lauren it was no surprise tutor Magda is who we thought he is right which is like he’s machine upside down the guy paced the run in fact he was running so fast on his hands I’m not going to call a handstand walk that he got outside of the lines which of course is why he had a no rep he literally had to go back at 12T section and he still walked with such a pace that he was able to reclaim that lead that he had early and Salvage that then it was really smooth going on the Roar for him settling into a pace right around that 144 to 146 range for much of the workout we saw some athletes close the gap a little bit John Wood being one of them there but tutor held on just long enough to have the new time to beat oh and by the way we still got a whole another heat on standby that got that time now on the back of their mind and they’re going to be shooting for the Stars you do we’ll see how tutor’s time holds up buttery Bros thanks for joining us yeah thanks for having us here and we hope to see you at the CrossFit games and who you end up seeing who TS their ticket and get their training I’m looking forward to the content boys I’m looking forward to the content thanks for having us on guys thank you guys your final heat is coming up next in just bit just nine teams will join us at the games we’ll see you in just a bit [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] just outside Dignity Health Sports Park the beautiful California flag because we are back in Carson after 8 years for the West Coast Classic North America West semifinal I’m Lauren khil next to Adrien Conway Mike Arseno is on the floor for the first event for these individuals Pat velner looking to stand on top of the podium by the end of the weekend but still 300 points on the line that’s right overall leader Pat doing what Pat does handling business one event at a time uh a pure veteran here in the space of course been to the CrossFit Games more than most people would ever dream to be and this guy’s just handling business sitting at the top of the leaderboard I like him for all the rest of the workouts that exist Lauren I think that uh he’s going to fair just fine on his way to Fort Worth here are your overall standings so Patrick bner sits on top of the leaderboard but take a look at the nine and 10 that is the cutline Cole greas saer 195 points just 12 points outside of qualifying he will be the only man in this point not to be in contention quite yet but but this is what is on the line four time a 400 me row 96t hand sand walk back to the row for 600 m 120 ft hand sandwalk back on the row for the last 800 met row and then 72 foot handstand walk to the Finish what are our go Ruck steps to success for this one Adrien they’ve got to be Reckless on the rower Lauren we saw it even in the last Heat there can be some gaps that are closed or extended with the pace you set there and they’ve got a brace and breathe immediately transitioning to the handstand walk you’ve got to be able to recover through the first and the second in order to have a sustainable Pace on the road here are your lane assignments for event four so cold gree saber on the outside looking in but still 300 points on the line another goal that we’re going to be watching Cole Sager M looking to punch his 11th consecutive ticket to the games we’re going to send it down to the floor to Mike Arseno well thank you very much Lauren yes we’ve talked about experience how important it is a lot this week and and as you mentioned Cole looking for his 11th consecutive appearance his training this year uh in errupted his son was born 5 months ago 3 months premature so Cole was spending 21 hours a day in the Nikki with his son only giving him three hours a day to himself where he could try and fish some training that’s where really leaned on his experience maximizing his training time and being as as efficient as possible and looks like that’s paid off so far as he finds himself in the top nine will he stay there throughout the rest of this final day Chris abara also in this heat just 24 years old trains hwpo hwpo with the leadership and oversight of a Jacob hner an athlet who been to the CrossFit game several times and Chris even doing exactly what we saw from Hade Keno on the women’s side handling business not coming out winning any particular event but proving that if you’re consistent and statistically best across 2 to 3 days of competition and you got a chance to go to the CrossFit Games hwpo and Jacob hner not a bad combo for Success hustle up is the official ekeeper of the CrossFit semi-finals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit World Tour visiting CrossFit gyms around the globe terms and conditions apply as we luck another athlete right on the bubble and and we got to watch him closely a 16th a sixth and at 12th allows him to be ninth overall now something he’s got to be mindful of is you know who is to his left and who is to his right when you’re on that cut line you’re looking to just kind of bump your way up to be a bit more safe as you advance forward and what’ll be important is to not get nudged out of this last Heat laen because there’s only one opportunity to reat that’s going to take place after this workout and then for the next two with 200 points still remaining he’s going to get stuck wherever he ends up after this one to me strategically you’ve almost got to be willing to risk a touch more right now just to cling tightly to these top 10 gentlemen so that you have a chance to push and be pushed by them in the final events and you can oh from Jes spray had to fix something before he went to his hand sand walk but the entire field on their hands running the quickest though cold greas saer G oh my goodness Lauren I mean looking very similar even in attack mode like we saw just the heat to go from tutor Magna who set the time to beat another athlete that was truthfully running on his hands now probably setting into a steady Pace but you can’t sleep on the rower no no and what I like about uh a young cold greas saer right here is that he is a powerful individual so he’s going to have an opportunity to sustain a pretty competitive row Pace here probably control himself personally so that he can stay at threshold and stay just ahead of his other competitors cold greas saer leading the way momentus is the official Sports Nutrition and supplement provider for CrossFit momentus offers the highest quality third party tested supplement and nutrition designed for everyday performance use code cf20 or text 30493 for 20% off momentous product 137 pace so he’s not taking any vacations on the road this this is in a camera trick Lauren okay he is pulling with a ferocity and intensity that would leave most of us crippled after just about a minute and he’s doing that in the middle of this workout so folks if you’ve been on a rower and you’re looking at those numbers those numbers don’t lie to you they don’t fluff you up and give you motivation they don’t do it they tell you the truth and he’s rowing and it looks almost casual to him you don’t see an obscene amount of suffering he’s still checking to his right understanding where his competitors are and it’s is going to allow him hopefully to have even a slight Advantage as he exits the row now something to be mindful of here is that they got the longest row though after this next handstand walk so is he leaving enough in the tank and this will be the 600 meter row but Cole Sager 10 consecutive CrossFit appearances looking to join bkg out of Europe who was the first ever to punch 11 consecuted tickets Bren pakowski eight he’s in company with Pat mner too but look on your screen coold greas saer back on the handstand walk he knows he has to send it to get into the final heat not only that but guarantee his spot back at the games he’s qualified the past two years finished 33rd both in 2023 and 2022 he wants to be there in 2024 well he’s on his way by handling business right now and giving himself an opportunity and as an athlete that’s all you can do is can control what is on the floor and what is a head of you right in that moment and he is already ahead of tutor magda’s Pace as he was at the 4 and a half minute Mark as he approached the rower P gree saer just enough behind but you know what who’s nipping at his heels the other hungry athlete that is also looking to get back right there in Lane one Brandon Luckett is doing what he has to do to remain in this top heat and be in contention and that’s the advantage of having times from the previous Heat tutor Magda put up a 740 time to beat but again we have a hungry field wanting to qualify for the CrossFit Games three events left on the day they recede after this one and will have to stay in that heat through the final [Music] event this is their longest row an 800 meter row before that they will hand sand walk from the beginning of the mat all the way to that Finish Line 72 ft yep it on your left check out even even the the difference in their their rowing techniques right we got more of a chest Le position on the left by Luckett he’s leading more with his upper body GRE saer all lower body keeping his upper body back shoulder stacked on top of his hips on top of his hips I’m sorry and using his leg drive now is this intentional does he always row this way this might be a specific technique in order to save his upper body and allow him to flush blood to his quads and his legs which he knows when he gets upside down he doesn’t have to use him as much that cutline it is everything putting up a good score on the first workout of the day Justin maderas looking to make his way back to the CrossFit [Music] Games use code wcc2 for a 20% discount on the online level one visit crossfit.com to register for a course is there a course to grow a mullet like mados has I’d be curious as if and the goatee okay well there it is 138 I’m sorry that’s cold greas saer so that’s Lane 10 still holding that pace his judge’s hand is in the air this is what he needs Adrien and Lauren I’m going to be honest when we were looking even from our perspective and we saw the rest of the athletes eyes when GRE saer got off the row in round two they were surprised like I think they were intentionally like yo what did he just row you know and is he going to hold it that’s right that’s right and and off the thrower this is his final handstand walk time to beat 740 it looks like he’s going to do it to earn himself 100 points and put him in a very comfortable position 716 unofficially with a bow giving us a little bit of sass on the screen doing exactly what he needs to all right one of nine positions but there is a race between Lane one Bron lck and Sam Quant Sam Quant just a little bit ahead getting his hands we’ll have to check official chip timers James spra also crossing the Finish Line you know and that was Biggie Salvage that having to go back in that workout Lane seven Brent fikowski Justin madas Pat velner all across Chris abar and here comes merens wow what a race to start the day we’re going to see how or if any times besides tutor magdas held up with this field because they were all just a couple seconds within each [Music] other exactly yeah that’s the story wow poo athlete looking to make his third appearance at the CrossFit Games on the outside looking in he did exactly what he needed to on the first event of the final day yeah I got to I got to admit Lauren I’m so impressed by the way this young man was able to navigate the running again I’ll Define it as running on his hands the handstand run was impeccable notice the movement and the fluidness of his lower body as his hands are doing work look at that pace that he sustained not just through the four not just through the six but also through that 800 M row again chose to keep his shoulder stacked on top of his hips keep his chest open maybe that allowed him to breathe a little more uses quads and then of course speed all the way through the Finish he’s handling business down to Mike with our winner Cole you needed that 12 points out of a qualifying position coming into event number four what is it like knowing you have to hit a home run and then actually doing it so for me I feel like and we are sorry about that his mic must have cut out but we’re gonna see if we can get his audio I mean I’ll be honest Lauren I’m I’m assuming he’s saying something like I was just my game plan was to come out row fast and then run on my hands to beat everyone else and he just did that I mean because that and the confidence of builds to also be off the rower first and know how fast your hand sandwalk speed yeah and and I wish I could even make it more obvious where I I was literally watching the eyes of Pat velner Brent fikowski here towards the middle Lanes they both simultaneously looked over at him in that middle I think it was demoralizing almost to the group the way how fast he got off that roller overall standings from that event Cole greas saer 715 tutor Magda had put up the best time going into that but he will sit fourth with Sam Quant Brandon Luckett just ahead of him yeah and it’s it’s an amazing race that we’ve seen I mean these times right here are honestly very impressive to me even what my assumption was of what was capable for an event like this and again it’s just another Ode to what CrossFit is developing in these young athletes and what they’re capable of on the competition floor and Daniel K from he number two he was able to get a top 10 time sitting in ninth from event four just two events left to go 200 points now left on the line they will recede after this event and we apologize for the technical difficulties with Cole we’ll have to go catch up with him and report back but we have women coming up for their second event on the day event number five we are snatching throwing it back to 2016 regionals we will see you shortly [Music] [Music] the West Coast Classic the 2024 job [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] w [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] standby all we go Heat number two event number five going to do some heavy lifting out here first barbell 10 reps 135 lbs got a two-minute window to accomplish that task before moving up to 145 lb can always watch for those judges hands to go up as [Music] well descending on the rep scheme down to two ascending and weight 135 145 55 165 final barbell 175 for your ladies time to beat set in heat W by m pler 641 multiple judges hands in the air as we’re approaching our first minute one more minute to go before our first cap Aaliyah Miller moving up to the barbell number two 145 at the 1 minute mark Devin Kim moving up Allison scuds as well about 30 seconds in our two-minute window 10 seconds to our first cap 3 2 1 two-minute time [Music] cap if our athletes have made all 10 reps they got another two minutes working on barbell number two 145 lb going to to that 4minute Mark Aaliyah Miller Leading The Way Lane number five and she’s done with barbell number two she’ll add a little bit of weight 155 lbs for six reps needed two reps remain for Devin Kim before moving on right behind her Emily White Lane six [Music] Aaliyah Miller still leading this with these one minute to our next cap oh your ladies trying to stay within that time cap window about 30 seconds remaining for barbell number two looking for eight reps at 145 lbs 10 seconds 3 2 1 4 minute time cap two more minutes got to be finished with that 155 lb barbell for six reps final rep completed for aiah Miller she’ll move on to that 165lb barbell Center of your competition floor Lane number [Music] five Devin Kim one rep away from moving up to that bar of 165 Aaliyah Miller though first rep is good at [Music] 165 Devin Kim with will advance Aaliyah Miller with a two rep lead over Devin one minute remains to our next cap one more rep to go for Aaliyah down at Lane number five on the 165lb barbell and she’ll have plenty of time moving on to that final barbell 175 lbs at the 529 marker 641 the time to beat she’s got two reps to go at 6-minute window coming up here in 15 seconds we’re going to count you down athletes 10 seconds 3 2 1 6 Minute time cap Miller one rep away from wrapping this thing up and she will get it and cross that line unof offal [Music] [Music] 64 one rep to go for Nicole mckeny Lane number four [Applause] and Haley KAC will [Applause] cross final rep for two athletes Devin Kim will cross right behind Lane four Nicole mcin just under a minute for our 8-minute window and it looks like all of our athletes are going to be moving on Final barbell Lane number six for Emily white their final two competitors working towards that 11-minute time cap now with 175 lbs on from the [Music] barbell Morgan Porter will cross just past that 8 Minute Mark final Athlete on the floor but she’s on that last stage here one rep remaining for Alice and Scott Carson I need to hear you right [Applause] [Music] now good rep Alice and Scotts will cross [Applause] that will do it for an exciting Heat 2 in event number five one more time for these [Applause] [Music] ladies one more time for Aaliyah Miller setting the new time to beat 6113 [Applause] down to [Music] we are now approaching the halfway point for the final day of competition inside the Dignity Health Sports Park I’m Lauren khil next to Adrien Conway Mike Areno is on the floor and we are starting the snatches who doesn’t love having a snatch ladder to end day three what they’re looking at it is a repeat from 2016 Regional 1086 42 with weight going up 135 145 155 165 and then the last bar 175 is on tap but what is that go Ruck step to success for these athletes well it’s going to sound cliche Lauren but smooth is fast here they’ve got to set and establish a smooth Cadence on barbell one and on number two it’s fast out fast through and I’m not talking about the pace for this workout talking about in and out of that squat these are squat snatches to be specific let’s go down to Mike with more on this 2016 repeat well thank you very much Lauren as mentioned yes this event first showed up back in 2016 as the first event of the competition back then Cara Saunders at the time to beat at 5 minutes and 29 seconds three years later six women have been able to beat car’s time including Danny Spiel who we’ll see coming up in Heat number four that just shows the growth the evolution and really the top end strength improvements of of the greatest athletes in the sport of CrossFit so we’ll see how many athletes are able to add to that total will it be six will will be in double digits by the end of these next two Heats here are your lane assignments in the middle those are the women trying to make it into the CrossFit Games with only eight spots on a the line just below that cut Point Rebeca fusel yeah Rebecca fusel Lauren I mean we’ve seen her put her Fitness on display specifically an event too she real a chance to sign and took a second other than that she’s at a 16 17th and a 23rd this is going to need to be a focus for her now she’s been verbal and she’s admitted this is where she’s tried to see her most growth in her strength let’s see what she can do she’s called herself big Becca just 21 points outside of the cut line Stacy Lam though also looking from the outside in yeah outside in and similar to big Becca if you will um Rebecca fusite is that she’s been working on refining her strength as well and she’s got a listed snatch at 180 lb Lauren that is literally just 5 lbs over what they’re going to have to snatch twice to finish a strength event so we’ll see how these ladies manage the heavy loads of these Squad [Music] snatches and here we go event number five 2016 Regional event one squat snatch ladder repeat 135 lb on the barbell they must squat snatch it they can’t and power power snatch it up and overhead squat at the top so we’ll be keeping an eye on that hustle up is the official timekeeper of the CrossFit semi-finals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit World Tour visiting CrossFit gyms around the globe terms and conditions apply Lauren you mentioned it these have to be squat snatches which means in one smooth fluid motion they’ve got to pull the bar from the floor no pausing or waiting above the knee and they’ve got to pull it into a full squat position now squatting folks is going to be defined in our sport by crease of the hip below the top of the knee you’re going to need to show that clearly to your judge before you stand up now something that a lot of us can forget as we watch this from the stands or from the comfort of our homes is that that small box that they’re snatching within those feet got to stay within those lines I’ve seen several no reps already from some of our earlier Heats where the bars forward or they step on the line so that adds another element of accuracy here which is a challenge Olivia her Setter to the left she is in the lead right now working through eight reps at 145 she is one of three athletes on this floor in this heat with a snatch over 200 lb and that really matters when we look at someone’s listed one rip Max this creates the the greater that it is it creates a further buffer from the loads that they’re handling so if Olivia snatches 210 and someone else’s snatches 180 well this weight for her is merely a 50% lift versus perhaps a 75% lift like it ends up for other athletes judges hand in the air for Olivia curter and Kelsey Keel who’s in the hot pink also El listed 210 lb squat snatch both of them advancing to our third bar 155 lbs on the bar six squat snatches this will be the last one that they will have to load weight and then they will advance to the next barbell that is loaded we got Sydney McAllan on the screen right now Cycling Singles just like the rest of the field has chosen she takes a brief brief breath between every repetition and then she tries to establish a butt down chest up position in order to be smooth off the floor she’s making great work you’ll notice that the athletes also have to advance their own bar and add plates so this is an element of NASCAR pit crew as fast as you can be on with the plates on with the clips and we’re right back to work tup makes Elite belts for everyday athletes that will help you crush your PRS avoid injuries and look your best while you LIF if you’re regularly deadlifting squatting or lifting 80% or more of your max then you need a t pooed belt to power your PRS get the official BT of the 2024 CrossFit Game season today at t.com CFG 24 Olivia ketter just two reps left before she will advance to her fourth bar still looking very smooth here for Olivia she’s got great patience off the floor she keeps a great relationship between her hips and shoulders and then she brings the speed through the middle as the bar passes her knee right into that overhead squat Olivia ketter will advance and add weight on the last barbell Jacob Hepner also making an appearance today he wanted to surprise her she had no idea that he was coming Olivia ketter frequently trains out of his gym follows proven training but having a coach in person having Jacob who is a veteran games athlete is certainly helping in her success one rep to go wow Olivia ketter unofficially three 57 offensive Lauren that’s offensive the best time to beat before that today 614 from ellia Miller and the world record last week in Europe Alisa fiano 51 are you kidding me I think she had this specially earmarked it no no we’re not kidding Lauren I know you you got a complete look of disbelief on your face I just told you that time was absolutely offensive not just to the field but even to me and you up here we’re like wow we weren’t prepared for that I was like she’s already to the last bar and for contacts back in 2016 carus Saunders original record was 529 and that’s not a progression of strength in our sport specifically for the women I don’t know what is Kel and this is only heat 3 we have one more to go Kelsey Kel’s got one rep to go getting over the line right under 5 minutes unofficially it looked like [Music] 459 we knew that the women in this he were going to put up some competitive scores but it’s in the 3 minute mark for Olivia Cur Setter we’re checking in on yeah and we’ve got fusel right here in the Middle Lane still just made the cap as she advances forward she’s been working on her strength she stays alive lift from Sydney mition just over 5 and a half minutes for her she will secure a spot in this heat Rebecca fusel four reps left your overall standing is 21 points below that cut line only eight women from this region will punch their ticket to the CrossFit Games this and then one more event are left on the table for Fus slay it’s all about damage control and making sure that she gets all of these lifts within the windows before progression Gabrielle Spence [Music] H and her listed one RM Adrien 175 so the weight that she has on that barbell right now that’s right it’s going to take a lot of focus the crowd’s going to have to get in this to be get behind her and support her here what she’s got to do Lauren is finish the pull people are going to identify this by watching her get as tall as she can and leave the ground and then catch that bar in that overhead squat wow just like she she’s in multiple reps at you’re listed one rep that’s amazing and it’s not you know it’s not foreign territory for our sport we see a lot a lot of traditional Olympic weightlifting coaches would be like there’s no way they’re going to hit these weights twice if that’s their listed Max well we’re not quite there with topping off our technique and proficiency at a one rip Max yet and these athletes have more in the tank and they’re showing in here Rebecca fusel advancing to her second to last last bar 165 and here in Lane seven Mariana Mesa she is good her listed one RM 187 so another heavy lift for the athlete Stacy Lam and you’ll notice she got it Janie Chevy will stand it up one rep left for her and she will get it Stacy Lam also one rep left for Rebecca Fus the crowd is getting behind her as she has spent so much time this season with not qualifying for the CrossFit Games she knew that strength was her limiter and she’s put in a lot of work in building the strength and both athletes will stand it up catching it in the hole as their last rep Lam and Chevy crossing the finish line [Music] [Applause] good lift and she will stand it what a lift from Rebecca Fus big smile on her face Olivia ketter though 358 a blistering Pace from heat three with one to go so amazing and so impressive we knew that Olivia ketter would be able to to post a very impressive time and it was early on that she took control and got out to a very very large lead hardly hesitating in between any of her repetitions she chose singles the entire way no touch and go but she was fast like a NASCAR pit crew in and out of the weight exchanges because she knew she didn’t need long rest and she was able to set up and set a new fastest time in the world on this particular workout and what an impressive way to do it we will now see what happens with heat 4 they are coming up next you won’t want to miss it we’ll be right back [Music] a [Music] [Music] nah [Music] e [Music] it’s a beautiful day here in Carson California outside La Chinatown but inside the Dignity Health Sports Park we are lifting heavy and lifting fast for the fifth event for individuals I’m Lauren Kil alongside Adrien Conway Mike Arseno is on the ground these are the women’s standings after four events on that cutline Kyra Milligan but just below her just 12 points below her Trista Smith those are two athletes that we are going to keep an eye on but who is going to lift heavy and heavy fast it’s a throw back from 2016 regionals squat snatches 108 642 135 145 155 165 175 making sure they’re all done with in that two-minute window as they Advance Adrien arcs G Ruck steps to success yeah we got a couple of them smooth as fast here if you start off too fast on the 10 rep barbell and get out of sorts it could cost you late and you want to be fast out and fast through and what I mean specifically Lauren is in and out of your squat in the lift the faster athletes had a transition out of the bottom will have Advantage later in the workout and here are your lane assignments you can see we know Danny Spiegel 225 lbs we have her as the max lift she’s somebody we will be keeping our eye on as well as our bubble athletes but first we’re going to go down to the floor with Mike for more on Danny well thank you very much Lauren you mentioned lifting fast lifting heavy but also lifting under fatigue because the last time this event was uh used in the CrossFit competition was always the first event of the day conversely this is is aent number five and for Danny she says that’s a big Advantage for her because she’s confident not just in her strength but her ability to lift heavy under fatigue so we’ll see if that plays out here in event number five and Danny Spiegel missed out on qualifying for the CrossFit Games by just one spot last year she does not want to be in that same situation this year with two events to go yeah and Lauren this is this is exactly where you find yourself is that she is in a similar position to last year but this particular test this is in her wheelhouse she has an opportunity to accumulate a mass amount of points and make a statement going into the final Kyra Milligan just on the inside of the cut lines 18th eth 7th 18th a listed snatch of 180 yeah 180 that’s going to put and that’s going to put some pressure on her you know what I mean coming into that last barbell but she is strong and I’ll tell you what I think that experience that she gained last year being on Mayhem Independence finishing seventh at the cross games that could lend itself advantageous here when the pressure continues to build now right out of the gate Lauren I’m noticing something a little different with Kyra Milligan to the left to the left of your screen look at how narrow her grrip position is here that is typical what we’ll see with a snatch is that the hands are going to be wider wider outside of the shoulders and hers are about a clean grip so we spoke with her coach kefir Lamie earlier today and he did say that she will be snatching with that closer grip due to an injur she was suffering before the open and the only thing that bothers her is a wider grip so she looks pretty comfortable with it and we’ll see how it fares as we get deeper into this event as the official Footwear and apparel partner of CrossFit in the CrossFit Games goruck wants to give you your gym the chance to win the official shoe of CrossFit head over to goruck.com CrossFit and enter for a chance to win 50 free pairs of R Runners for you and your affiliate now you notice athletes making Fast work of the transitions the more confident they are with the weight commonly they’re going to make even faster transitions as we’ll notice Alex gazand your right of your screen one of the last athletes on the barbell for 10 reps Alex historically is a strong athlete yes but in it comes to the skill of the squat snatch there’s a lot of Mastery that she’s still continuing to develop and trying to work on wa on that second Bar 145 lbs oh and we got a no rep from Ariel loan just couldn’t stand it up Danny Spiegel all the way to your right looking smooth very smooth L and with the listed Max at 225 like you mentioned this creates such a large buffer for her in regards to potential errors and her being so physically strong that she can always save the bar versus some of the weaker women on the floor they have to be so exact even as we watch Dariel Len fall back out of a snatch if you missed by a hair it’s going to cost you a rip Pat she’s somebody that we’ve been keeping our eye on as a leader through most of the West Coast Classics so far that’s right and and you know one of the most impressive things about her is it seems that she’s been able to sustain what I would categorize as tunnel vision which is huge for an athlete in her situation trying to do something she’s never done before punch a ticket as an individual to the CrossFit Games I mean third seventh fourth and eighth as she progresses her bar into the heavier loads incredibly consistent across the weekend with just two events left but fairy pretty well as one of our leaders in this fifth out of six events Danny Spiegel into her first of six snatches at the 155lb bar after this round is complete they will leave that bar and move forward to the next bar that is already preloaded time to beat Olivia ketter from the previous heat 3 minutes and 58 seconds seconds these women still have two marel left at least two as we are 3 minutes and 20 seconds in Danny Spiegel to your left Cano or I’m sorry Spiegel to your right Cano to your left is both these women and this is where Spiel gets to advance forward even lower and and and get to the new bar right so she doesn’t have to add weight here this is a fresh bar on the floor after the first three transitions she’s going to get her hands on the bar and go but this is where the The Human Side of athletes start to show Danny’s strong but she’s starting to become winded with all the accumulating work that takes place this is where Olivia just continued to accelerate weight on the bar for spegel is 165 she’ll have four reps here Cano getting hyped getting ready left of your screen this is going to be her first of four and that looks good Adrien W it’s very smooth I mean when we talk about the 10 General physical skills that we’re trying to adapt speed agility coordination accuracy and balance are all put to the test rate here with the squad stat these two ladies are putting on a clinic Cano’s lifted or uh recorded recorded Max for snatch 190 Danny Spiegel 225 and as she’s preparing here to add more weight getting ready for her final two repetitions Danny Spiegel loading her barbell for the final one at 175 just two squat snatches until she can cross the finish line Canya is good and she will now advance to her final [Music] barbell dannyel one left to go very sharp very smooth putting it exactly where she wants it over her head right over the middle of her foot and it will be good Danny Spiegel crosses the Finish Line 510 unofficially the type of damage control she needs to squeeze on the other side of that cut line hadie giving herself a slap and a little yell getting her mind right wow still looks the same as when she began one rep left for Cano Kyra Milligan also advancing to her final [Music] barbell Trista Smith to the left of your screen she’s got one rep to go and Canya will be in she’s good Kyra Milligan she is good we got to check to see what her one rep is I think it’s stronger than what is listed and I’ll tell you Lauren be there executing through a wrist injury with a clean grip that’s so impressive Trista Smith is in gosh Bernardin got capped earlier as you only had that two-minute window to work through each bar bell or you were not able to advance so she got capped as the rest of the Field Works through their barbells doit good doit final rep she’s [Music] [Applause] in we still have Bethany Flores Emily Rolf gazan and Ariel loen on the floor Ariel taking a second here to compose herself it looked like maybe her heart rate got out of the swords maybe maybe nursing a bit of a fatigued back wow great lift there by Flores Flores one to go Flores to your right Ariel loan to the left and she’s [Music] in what an impressive save there by Ariel the bar was a little bit far back and she was able to salvage that great fight Emily rool [Applause] and we know weightlifting for Ariel Ralph that’s an opportunity for her to have damage control she only has 165 lifted as her Max Alex gazan oh just couldn’t stand ites Flores locks it in now as as I mentioned earlier Alex gazan pound-for-pound is a strong athlete she can squat she can pull she can press the squat snatch has that intrinsic demand as a skill set that she’s still working to master the receiving position overhead she got it so one rep left for gazan two reps left still for Emily Rolf as we near the cap with just three minutes to go and gazan will get it she will be in something to keep in mind the times from the previous heat are going to factor into this and athletes will not be receded after this so when it comes to that cut line we’re going to have to do a lot of math back here Adrien to figure out what is on the line and who could go to the CrossFit Games Emily wol that looked excellent yeah she’s got to repeat that one more time and this is where your mind and emotion can’t get the best of you you’ve got to be clearheaded enough to give yourself the right amount of time to recover could you get in there too soon here and make a miss or pull just a little shy and you’re going to out there for another minute the crowd’s behind Emily here finish the pool [Music] Emily rush it just a little just a little what we’re trying to look for here is we want to we want to keep it a real constant steady pull off the floor she doesn’t want to rush it until the bar starts to pass her knee and then that’s where she’s got to bring whatever speed and power that she can and finish the pull we want to watch her get if if Emily stands at 5’11 she want wants to get 5 11 and then some at the top before she tries to squat under this bar here we go this is her last rep and she does it wow great you see what a veteran move looking at her judge before she drops that bar she doesn’t want to have to do that again crosses the Finish Line under the cap coming into this Emily Rolf was second we’ll see how all of the times from the heat before factor in but Danny spegel takes the Heat win she did what we thought she would Mike Aro was right and Danny Spiel was right when she told him hey I like to lift heavy but more importantly I like to lift heavy when I’m tired her setup and execution Lauren didn’t falter and it didn’t change rep after rep bar after bar and that is a staple for textbook squat snatches right there what an excellent finish position in the overhead that is so rare to come by and that is a great way to put on an exhibit of virtuosity youing the common uncommonly well your overall standings from event five Danny Spiegel was able to earn a top three spot sitting in third but Olivia Cur Setter going full beast mode on this field from Heat number three under four minutes I got no words I got no words it was so impressive Kelsey Keel also needed to lock that in she sits second over overall for that event let’s go down to the floor with Mike Areno Danny you’re doing exactly what you need to do on this last day of competition a seventh in event number four third place there in event number five you had the Heat win how much attention do you pay to the leaderboard and the point differential for those eight spots that will go to the CrossFit games uh I actually try not to look at the leaderboard because like starting off like with my worst event it just really like gets into my head so people just tell me as I go and I’m like oh that’s great that’s really nice but uh I’m a head case when it comes to looking at the leader board so I actually avoid it at all costs now we talked in the warm-up area and you said you were confident about this event but also a lot of the other women in this competition are very strong you broke your time that you set in 2021 by 20 seconds yeah but that was still only good for third in the event with Olivia ketter breaking four minutes so just what is it about the evolution of the strength of the women that you’re competing with I mean every single year women and men are just getting better and better and stronger and it’s every single competition there is no event I think I think people go out like I said like with confidence but everything’s evolving so no one goes out there like I’m definitely going to win this cuz you just never know what’s going to happen so you can be confident but people are just getting so good and when I heard Olivia did like sub four I immediately was like no shot so she’s amazing and everyone that I’m competing with is amazing and we have home runs we have ones we struggle with but the evolution of the sport is just absolutely incredible well speaking of having confidence we have event number six coming up shortly where does that sit for you is that that high level confidence potential home run home run or you could be a struggle for you where do you see it playing out I like the event I have like two movements in there that are really good for me and one that like is we’ll get through it but those heavy dumbbells at the end are definitely going to help me thanks Danny we’ll see you soon yeah thank you Danny Spiegel looking to punch her ticket back to the CrossFit Games Olivia ketter rookie of the year last year she put up one heck of a performance in event five we have event five for the men coming up next stay with us [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] w [Music] [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Music] e [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] 10 seconds standby all right Heat number one kicking off for our Elite men we’ve got a fun one they’re going to be working through these weights they’re going to have 185 205 225 245 and 265 they have 2 minutes at each station station number one they’re working on right now 10 reps Steven O’Brien with three remaining here on barbell number one mark Marlo down at Lane number four now moving quick with two reps remaining slide Advantage going to Lane number seven O’Brian and no sh move at the same time on to barbell number two 205 lb [Music] 45 seconds to that first time [Music] cap 30 second that twom minute window coming up got to have 10 reps in on that first barbell [Music] we’re going to count him down that first two-minute window less than 10 seconds and that’s your two-minute window everybody making it through to barbell number two [Music] Marlo with one rep ahead one rep remaining and he will go ahead and move that barbell down finishing his last rep also in Lane seven O’Brian he will move down you’re leading gentlemen onto that third barbell we got a 4minute window for barbell number two 6-minute window for Barb number three 225 lb for your leaders one minute to that 4 minute cap one minute three reps remain for Marlo at that 225 sperlin in Lane number one adding some weight he’ll move on three reps to go for Zan in Lane number eight with 30 seconds remaining [Music] 15 seconds to that 4minute cap Marlo moving on to barbell number four 245 lb 5 Seconds 4minute count zanet making it into the next barbell but your leader Jacob Marlo Lane number four working on his second to the last [Music] barbell looking for four reps at 245 lbs O’Brian one rep down three to go in Lane number seven on the 245 lb barbell [Music] [Music] O’Brien has caught up to Marlo but Marlo will come out ahead by one wrap one minute to our six-minute Gap got to be through that 225lb barbell to move on but Jacob Marlo moving on to his final barbell and only two reps [Music] needed 30 seconds to our 6-minute c [Music] 15 seconds final barbell for Jacob Marlo one down and one to go we’re going to count our six-minute window down three 2 one 6 Minute cap and that’ll do it for Jacob Marlo unofficially 604 obrian the only other Athlete on that final barbell I stand corrected Nick Thomas moving on to that final barbell but O’Brien is going for his first attempt as we approach that 6 and 1/2 minute Mark Steven O’Brien out a CrossFit progression [Music] [Applause] [Music] O’Brien good with his first lift one down and one to go as we come up on the 7 Minute Mark the 245 Bell going to be ringing here in about 60 seconds for the rest of our our fellas but O’Brien will come across the line [Music] 714 alridge we’ll move on to his final [Applause] barbell just under 30 seconds to that 8 Minute C [Music] 10 seconds to 8 Minute cap we’ll count it down here 5 Seconds three 2 One 8 minute count one rep remaining for Nick Thomas Carson let’s hear you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] good W for Nick Thomas he will cross we got one more athlete still on the floor has until that 11-minute time [Music] cap good W for eldrich one more remaining [Music] [Music] all right we can do better than that Jordan Eldridge two minutes to go one final barbell 20065 lb little bit of chalk little bit of Courage a little bit of [Music] noise and a whole lot of pull come on brother pull that barbell here we go and that’ll do it for Jordan Eldridge unofficially 935 and that’ll do it for Heat number one [Applause] Jacob Marlo unofficially 604 your time to beat [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Music] a [Music] to [Music] [Applause] [Music] a [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] oh o [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] he [Music] 10 seconds stand by here we go ladies and gentlemen our heat of elite men Heat number two getting after it 10 snatches at 185 No Big D these are your Elite men trying to clear through 10 snatches at 185 and under two minutes Jacob Marlo smashing the ladder with 6 minutes and 4 seconds who from this he Big Mike Richards is going to be able to take down that time I don’t know we’re going to see a lot of eyes are on Mr Sam dancer no Strang or do the strength element of CrossFit Sam dancer looking strong as he’s got four more reps to go currently in first place in second place Lane number 10 Zachary bunson tying up with Sam dancer they both have three reps remaining two more reps to go for uro Torres here in Lane number one one to go for Bunton opposite side one for Torres these athletes have about 45 seconds to clear that first barbell as Torres and Bunton advance that barbell same goes for the man Sam dancer Daniel CS also advancing that [Music] barbell 20 seconds left for that first barbell and and it looks like we got everybody now we’re going to four minutes for barbell number two Bunton and Torres already underway looking for eight reps 205 lb there’s the two-minute Mark our athletes didn’t need it luckily so they now have another two minutes to clear 205 you know Jos these barbells under normal circumstances not that heavy for these level of athletes but you smash a whole bunch of them together and give them a time and that’s where it gets a little bit spicy here trying to test the fitness around the world to get our top nine gentlemen to the CrossFit Games 28 snatches total with various weights is a tough task for anybody same dancer with two more reps to go turo Torres had to ditch the bar so all eyes are on Lane number 10 Bunton and Sam dancer here in Lane number three dancer with one more rip to go one more rep to go for Zachary Bunton your number ones are in Lanes three and 10 Evans now sneaking in there Evans advancing barbell as well as CS just about 30 seconds remaining Josh for barbell number two couple athletes still out there working your leading Gentleman on to barbell number three 225 lbs CS with less than five reps to go as we have 10 seconds until the cut off for the 205 bar and there it is four minutes on the clock I believe all of our athletes advancing to that third weight of 225 in time oh no I believe Brandon fry he’s inting back so Brandon unable to clear it he’s got to move back athletes have about 90 seconds to clear the 225 bar 604 the time to be Mike pretty fast time coming by way of Jacob Marlo [Music] 225 lbs for six reps not how you start but how you finish maybe you’re getting a little bit quicker on the heavier weights as those rep schemes descend one minute to go Torres with one more rep to go Sam dancer with one more rep to go but we got two athletes advancing to that next barbell I believe it’s three CS Evans and bun advancing to [Music] 245 Torres also moving up to the 245 lb barbell Bunton Lane number 10 striking [Applause] first 20 seconds remaining for barbell number three sorz trying to hold on how to ditch it right now buson in the lead as Evans steps Up 3 2 one 6 Minute cap I believe everyone able to advance Sam dancer looking strong [Music] 245 that’s the weight they’re using Marlo’s time is safe who’s going to be the first athlete to clear this lad going to that 8 Minute Mark just about 90 seconds away need four reps with that fourth barbell [Music] Sam getting ready to advance that barbell I believe the only athlete on the final weight of 265 less than 60 seconds on barbell number four one athlete Sam dancer moving on to the final barbell [Music] and now Zachary Bunton moving on to his final barbell Mike as well dancer two reps away as we have 30 seconds for our athletes to clear the 245 barbell dancer the only athlete attempting to 65 Roberts will move on 10 seconds three two one there’s the 8 Minute Mark Sam dancer 265 one more rep to go Zach Buton down at Lane number 10 final rep bar is in hand can’t stand up with it dancer getting it done all smiles as he races into the end zone nicely done for Mr Sam dancer getting it done bunson looking like he can stand this one up final rep for for bunson at 843 [Music] [Applause] CPS one down one to go Evans one down one to [Music] go Roberts now one down and one to go two minutes remaining gentlemen 2 minutes to go [Music] [Applause] Evans approaching the bar and he’ll be shot out the back Torres now onto the bar and he can’t stand up we’re going to regroup try this one again final four athletes all with one a piece and 90 seconds remaining CS hold it on Roberts will tab across the line just under the 10-minute Mark a no go for Torres Here Comes Evan push that ball to the sky Mike Evans will finish up 108 45 [Music] seconds 30 seconds come on guys get behind them two lifters left one lift a [Applause] piece come on guys all gas t on the bar 10 seconds C’s going to give it one final try 3 two one [Applause] time ladies and gentlemen Make some noise for your heat to winner SA am dancer [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] we have now entered the fifth out of six events on the day before we send nine men to the CrossFit Games I’m Lauren khil alongside Adrien Conway Mike Arseno is on the floor it is time for a repeat the 2016 Regional event repeat the snatch ladder 10 8 6 4 2 weights go up 185 205 225 245 265 on the barbell what is our go Ruck set to success for this one Adrien well it’s pretty straightforward smooth as fast here have we seen time after time in the Heats already today they want start at a pace that they can sustain and not burn themselves out early and then fast out and fast through which means that they’ve got to be fast out of the bottom the bottom of that squat the receiving position in and out of that quick and as we mentioned this is a repeat from 2016 let’s send it down to Mike arso for more on that thanks Lauren with a bit of a different wrinkle because back in 2016 it was the first event of the competition whereas here this weekend it is the fifth event these athletes are going to have to tackle back in 2016 Matt Frasier set the time to beat at 605 and already we’ve seen one athlete eclips that Jacob Marlo Heat number one at 604 so we’ll we see from the final two Heats more than just six men beat Matt frer time from back in 2016 which just shows just how good big and strong and talented these athletes are 8 years later the evolution of this sport is incredible we’ve already seen it happen these are the lanes for Heat number three of the men just nine go to the CrossFit Games we still have one heat after this we are keeping keep our eye on Max C he is 58 points outside of that nin men cut line yeah we’ve highlighted Max a little bit already throughout the course of this weekend 8th 28th 8th and 16th he is in a position to give himself a great chance to go to the CrossFit games this year as an individual now Lauren we don’t have his his listed one rip Max being terribly higher than the listed weight to finish but I watched this man cycle some weight at Water pla not long ago I think he was bluffing tutor we have him listed as 325 for a Max snatch he’s on the outside looking in 60 points outside of that cut line you like this event for Magda he’s got a big lift just like you mentioned and it’s all about staying composed and being efficient here from bar one all the way through the finish and the men are off they will start with 10 squat snatches at 185 lbs hustle up is the official timekeeper of the CrossFit semifinals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit World Tour visiting CrossFit gyms around the globe terms and conditions apply Lane seven we already got a no rep Drake Lewis potentially not hitting depth all the way he was a bit shallow in that receiving position and this is something athletes got to be mindful of you mentioned in the description Lauren it’s a squat snatch folks that means you got to get the crease of the hip below the top of the knee and the judge is kind of at an angle in front of you so that means you better make it clear get your butt down so you can sell them on the movement and the rep that they want to see and athletes were brief that you cannot power snatch and then overhead squat this bar you must drop all the way down after the pull tutor Magda leader in Heat number three advancing to his second bar eight snatches squat snatches at 205 athletes will have to add weight to their barbell until they get to the fourth bar that will be preloaded and then pull forward load one more time for their final barbell yeah we’re going to see different strategies all over the place when it comes to loading up the bar some athletes will have some urgency and they’re rushing through it like tutor he’s going to be very confident here at 205 lbs loaded on the bar cycling that no problem so he was able to have some urgency in the transition other athletes are going to take their time catch their breath try to stay composed we even saw Max Creek right there at the top of your screen to the left he’s having a seat and taking a knee in between his transitions two makes Elite belts for everyday athletes that will help you crush your PRS avoid injuries and look your best while you live if you’re regularly deadlifting squatting or lifting 80% or more of your max then you need a twooo belt to power your PRS get the adval bell of the 2024 Cross Game season today at t.com CFG 24 we got Ben working through some reps right here he’s got to be mindful you know as he sets up every time Lauren what he does he got a great job at a great starting position with his feet under his hips and then he widens his feet quite a bit and if he gets pushed off to the right or the left of that lane he’s going to make sure he needs not step on that line through these repetitions Tren Benton sitting in 16th overall we have him listed at a 285 lb squat snatch but your leader in the white shirt to the left of your screen he will move now to his third bar 225 lbs for six reps we talked about this with Kad or we talked about this with Spiegel as we watch tutor Magna to the left of your screen in the white top he’s got a listed snatch of 325 lbs so when you watch this Barb go up this is 225 lb 100 lb under his max now some of these yeah some of these other men look to the back left there Max Craig in the corner his listed Max is about a 260 or 265 and so when you compare these two you just understand that tutor is operating at a much lesser intensity than some of the other competitors there he’s had a lot of points that he needed to make up and going into this last day and he’s been inching his way up the leaderboard still 60 points outside of that cut line the time he’s looking at to beat from heat one Jacob Marlo 604 we are 3 and 1 half minutes into this event with just two reps left on the 225 bar Lewis in the middle of your screen with just finished now he’s got two reps left as well well he was able to make up for that time he lost with his no rep that cost him in that first round of 10 reps and tutor will advance to his fourth bar not needing to load there’s already one set up oh these three men rep forre going head tohe Lewis is going to advance to his bar as well as traven will go to the 245 how bar they are looking out four squat snatches on the table here tutor strikes first o had to stabilize it at the bottom was able to stand up though yep and that’s that’s known as hey making a great save a little wobble in the bottom if you guys have done squat snatches at home you understand how that goes sometimes you got to step forward step back pause for a minute make a fight for the rep toe toe was on the line there for tutor and he got away with one he got away with one and now Benton will stand it up all three of these men tutor on the left he’s your leader Lewis next to him in second and Benton all the way to the right in third in this heat all of them going rep forre but now Lewis and Magna all tied up as they Advance their bars to the final line they will add weight for 265 lbs all they need is two reps here keeping an eye on the time to beat 604 we’re 520 in now this is where You’ really got to be internally setting up your personal cues as fatigue builds it’s even more important to be technically proficient you want to think drive through your heels finish the pull in the snatch and be very aggressive with your arms you got to punch under the bar Lauren these guys walked on their hands quite a bit already this morning they got some shoulder fatigue built up tutor and Lewis but tutor will stand it up Lewis gets a no rep this is the window that Tor needs Benton going for his first lift and he is able to secure it his foot was close to that line T got it stands it up and crosses the line 604 was the time to beat we’re going to have to look at the chip timer 605 so 1 second slower Jacob Marlo will still hold the time to beat but we’ll see if tutor can do enough 60 points outside of the cut line with one event to go Benton crosses the Finish Line Benton consistently impressing me throughout the course of this weekend I mean from a technical standpoint Lauren his uh his technique it it almost got better the heavier the barbells went now he paced himself and slowed down as he needed but that was a well done run in the air John Wood approaching the bar sunglasses on in the tennis Stadium got it and it’s good he has one rep to go several athletes still on the [Music] floor Lauren when you’re out of the bottom that fast like John was there on that rep boy he hit The Sweet Spot and he knew it he had to get out of there quick John Woods Max snatch listed at 300 lb this is his last rep and he is good [Music] wow we have six athletes in heat three left on the floor one of them there being Scott TLO in the uplift shirt right in front of you now we know his listed Max is under 265 and and he going into this event knew for sure he was going to need to do something special folks if we watch him hit that bar this is going to be a new one rip Max for Scott here we go sets up big pull this is the environment that it could happen though let’s get the crowd going come on speaking of that in Lane one we literally just watch he was literally attempting Justin rhods a touch and go repetition with 245 but unfortunately he will be capped out of that two-minute window and have to go to his starting mat here here goes Harris and he’s good he still has one to go good lift for Tristan there yeah we’ve now watched three men bow out they were time capped in their progression each one of these bars has a two-minute cap as they progress their way through and they reached that time as it lapsed by Adam McAdams Craig in the middle and then of course Ro to the left popping up the crowd he wants to get this he got it it’s good stay in bounds Scott let’s go and he screams it almost reminds me of Josh Bridges the way that he just celebrated look at that look at that mustache power of the stash and Harrison Great Lift by trist is good his last one he’s in 2 minutes left till the time cap Scott TLO looking left of the crowd nodding his head let’s see if we can get the energy TLO and Schmidt still out there SC like shid I’m going to give Schmid a shot here we’ll take turns TLO to the right now the bar’s just a little bit out in front of Jacob right there that is where you really want to focus on being a little bit more patient driving through your heels Jacob and get taller before you pull under the bar it’s easier and said than done though Lauren if you have ever established a Max snacks you want to rush under the bar feels heavy in your hands right you got to be patient let’s go goes T and he oh he’ll probably have one more opportunity to get it about a minute and 15 seconds left to the cap patience Jacob and Schmidt just a little short bar was in front of him both of these men going to take a moment to breathe they know they probably only have one more opportunity to get a good lift in yep just coming up under a minute Scott should take his time here TLO has one rep left Schmidt still has two at that last barbell 265 lbs tlo’s going to go for [Applause] it he got one so he’s got a PR in the that’s right he already we already witnessed some greatness here today as he was able to achieve a PR and Schmidt sets up and he is good and now we got a tie one to one 265 a piece they’re one rep in 20 seconds left now they can’t just be starting to lift though this isn’t like a Max they got to finish the lift so they got to get going yep getting the crowd both of them hands on the bar TLO goes and he stands up and oh my God and he celebrates as he gets in under the time capap a massive moment for Scott TLO snatching ping not once but twice incredible performance right at the buzzer Tuda tutor Magda though gets your best time here in Heat number three yeah and it was it was Magda from start to finish we saw LS suffer a no rep early tutor was so very smooth rep after rep he took his time he was a bit methodical I almost expected him Lauren to come out a bit more aggressive but honestly it really paid off his patience and Trust in his capacity we see him there at the barbell as he’s getting ready to finish for his heaviest lifts still under composed conditions saved a lift there back in his heels and was able to execute at a high level now he’s putting himself in a situation to be able to fight to and nail to get to the CrossFit Games Jacob Marlo still holding that overall best time but TLO I think he wins the he wins the workout yeah yeah Hey listen we’ll give two to the workout TLO you win the day you win the day your final heat is coming up we still have 10 men who are going to take on the 2016 Regional snatch ladder stay with us we will be right back [Music] [Music] we are off to a good start for the snatch ladder event number five here at the West Coast Classic inside the Dignity Health Sports Park the tennis stadium in Carson I’m Lauren Kil next to Adrien Conway Mike Areno is on the floor and this could be a more exciting way to almost end the day before we send men nine men the CrossFit Games here are your overall standings Patrick belmer sitting in that top spot but look down between 9th and 10th that is your cutline Cole greas saer just above col merens sitting 41 points outside what’s on tap here event number five a 1086 42 squat snatches at 185 205 225 245 and 265 we’ve already seen three heat Heats Adrien what is your go Ru step to success well they remain the same Lauren smooth as fast we got to remain composed this is an easy workout to get a an adrenaline dump and start too fast they got to be smooth and of course fast out fast through and what I mean is out of that overhead squat position in the receiving stance of the snatch they got to be fast out and here are your lanes right in the middle is your overall leader Patrick velner but on the outside almost on the outside Co GRE saer he is sitting on the inside of that cut line we’re going to go down to Mike Arseno with more on hold thank you Lauren that’s right Cole was on the outside looking in to begin this day did exactly what he needed to do in event number four with 100 points he took the win not really a surprise he was a gymnast for over a decade interestingly he weighed 90 pounds during his gymnastics career now he’s 2115 lbs during his CrossFit career so he’s big and strong so this could be another good event for him currently a 41 Point cushion to remain in that fall final qualifying spot and now he’s lifting heavy things and putting on a show for us the men are off starting with 10 reps on the 185 PB barbell and gree saber made quick work to it he was right back to work at the top top of your screen but but hey the focus here Mertens feeling a little bit of pressure Colton has a great overhead squat Lauren and this is going to create an advantageous position for him rep after rep as he could potentially save some time that barbell coming out of the bottom of his squat real fast if he can be accurate here he’s going to have a chance to to do something impressive towards the end of this workout hustle up is the official ekeeper of the CrossFit semi finals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit World Tour visiting CrossFit gyms around around the globe terms and conditions [Music] apply we talked about smooth as fast it seems as though most of the field has come out with a very patient Cadence but Cole GRE saer isn’t one of them he immediately got to the bar put his hands on it and flung that thing over his head as he already advancing the bar and looking to add more weight to 205 your early leader and he has done exactly what he needed to do to start the third and final day of the semifinals low start but doing what he needs to do will keep an eye on him overall leader though Pat bner sits on top with one event after this to go yeah velner doing what velner does I mean fourth second second 10th the consistency there is what has made him a great year in and year out honestly if I can say it myself the fittest man to never win a title in the sport I think most of us can agree on that title for velner he did win the semi-finals last year looking to lock it in again maderas also on your screen he is they’re snatching 205 right now that’s right both going head to-head 205 they’re going to knock out eight reps here at this barbell what I love about Justin madl is his movement quality year in and year out his mechanics are very consistent if you watch when he receives the bar it’s almost effortless there’s no wobble there’s no shake he hits it in a position and then the bar just starts going up right again boom and right back rep after rep you can count on that from Justin and that will lend itself advantageous as we go deeper into this workout and the weights get heavier and we saw his parents earlier they were pacing around to try to stay calm as they watch their son continue to compete but col and merens he’s already advancing to his third barbell 225 lb on the bar as he loads it up just six squat SN squat snatches he will need here that’s looking pretty smooth Adrien no very smooth and again that’s a highlight for Colton he’s not going to make that bar have to travel very far so his cycle rate innately is faster than the rest of the field not to mention that but this dude is strong Lauren and and I’m not talking about just physically psychologically and emotionally he’s he expressed that yesterday in Mike aro’s interview he is he’s a bulldog as the official Footwear and apparel partner of CrossFit and the CrossFit Games gooru wants to give you and your gym the chance to win the official shoe of CrossFit head over to goruck.com CrossFit and enter for the chance to win 50 free pairs of rough Runners for you and your affiliate we got the professor great smack dab in the middle of our screen you want to talk about a methodical mover this guy breaks everything down into a science he probably knows down to the 10th of the second when he need to puts his hand on the bar to be honest with you Lauren he’s he’s very calculated a great mover and we’ve seen him do this snatch ladder before look at his performances just consistently to the top but Colton Mertens he is on the 245 P pound bar he’s two out of his four reps in time to beat Jacob Marlo from heat one 604 but right behind him we saw in the previous heat tutor Magda 605 we we just had a Miss there Lauren he the bar was out in front of him for Mertens just a short rest though see he didn’t even take much time he knew it was an error on his part simply a Miss in mechanics merens has one rep to go for I has one rep to go before they will advance to their final [Music] bar pakowski will move first Colton Mertens close behind and they will add weight to Total 265 lbs merens on your right fikowski on your left just two reps is what we’re looking here at about 4 minutes and 45 seconds Justin maderas sitting in third in this heat he has just one more rep before he will advance to the final bar to join pakowski and Mertens and you get a look at look at this a little bit of different styles of pressure here coming on both of these athletes meron he’s going T it what just happened kidding me are you kidding me nobody was expecting to see anyone do that the owski is hysterically laughing like in the world because fikowski got his first rep in dropped the bar he knew he was ahead of Colton and Colton said uh-uh Bo bro I’m going to hang on and do touch and go oh my good we’re going to have to check the time because I wasn’t looking at it I was looking at what the heck is Colton Mertens doing merens is messing up my Swagger I had a whole stat here 42% chance to qualify he’s feeling the pressure and then he just touches go to bring it home he did the right thing with the pressure though we’re watching mados and gree saer work through their final reps here and in lane two Chris abara stands it up he has one rep to go Justin maderas on his last rep that’s it for GRE saer across the Finish Line he lock it in GRE saer locks it in mad at 605 across as well and here he is Chris abar one of the one of the big stories throughout the course of this weekend kind of surprising us all stand it up wow and lock it in just consistency all weekend long for this young [Applause] man Brandon Luckett and Sam Quant with one rep to go we got luck it James with one rep before he advances to his final barbell and luck it will lock it in 655 unofficially Sam Quant this is his last rep on his last bar wow will cross the finish line and that was a great save by him he could have easily kind of taken his momentum out of a line and gotten a no rep he did a wonderful job there going close stance and saving the lift Cole Sager oh that a no rep two reps left on his final bar James sprag will now advance to his final bar and add weight you know we’ve been referencing Lauren uh Rebecca fusel on the women’s side spra has the same kind of focus all year on developing strength he’s really trying to bring that up as something that he’s developing as a weakness in his overall Fitness and Pat velner good he’s got one rep to go Cole Sager has has two reps to go as James spra also has two on the final barbell both of the men approaching their bar and in sync they both stand it up that was that was an impressive save there by Cole Sager typically with 265 lbs over your head if your elbow bends that much you ain’t saving that thing and Pat velner oh one rep and James spray he’s going to strike first on the last rep and it is good he believes Lauren heev goes and jumps it was the lambo Leaf we just saw if you’re a Packers fan you know what I’m talking about it is Cole’s got to get aggressive with his arms here and Pat velner and he will sit in the hole oh we’ve seen some of these struggles from Pat before with the barbell we’ve seen it happen to him at the Rogue invitation that overhead position it’s just he goes really wide I’m not sure if it’s thic Mobility but with his split jerk as well as with his snatch there’s a bit of instability at the top and as fatigue tends to amount it gives him a little bit of trouble here and there Cole Sager trying to punch his ticket to the games for the 11th straight year no good for Patrick velner he injured his shoulder in 2016 in this Regional event Dave Castro apparently told him tough luck see you next year but then Patrick bner said I’m going to use that as fuel he ended up continuing his weekend punching his rookie ticket to the CrossFit games of 2016 didn’t just go and make an appearance but sat on that podium in third that was a great shot shot back at old Dave there back in the day but these guys both need to make some things happen here in regards to this finish there are a lot of athletes Lauren that are crossing the Finish Line as we watch them struggle with the bar right like in these previous Heats these misses are costly and that is where the events or the Heats excuse me from previous heats the times are going to factor in as we still have Patrick velner Cole Sager very decorated games veterans athletes one less than one minute for 35 seconds left until the cap James spray going out on the floor trying to Hype him up I think Cole Sager and James FR training Partners they’re in this fight together he goes there he goes crowd getting on their feet Patrick and there after three misses he’s able to lock it [Music] in 15 seconds left on the clock one rep left for Cole Sager to lock in event five one left on the [Applause] day and he will get capped with one rep to go but there’s a story right there Mr Colton Mertens just keeping an extra 265 snatch in his back pocket so he can touch and go and shock us all pick my jaw up off the floor Adrien because what yeah I mean and look at the execution all the way out of the gate we talked about the importance of a good Cadence and Pace but not too fast early Colton exhibited that right away equally Lauren his ability to receive that overhead Squat and then stand it right up was a money maker throughout the workout but he was even able to regroup from that Miss so quickly cuz he just knew it was air and then he hit us with this right at the end pakowski hits it we’re like oh no pakowski got the lead Psych there goes merens with a touch and go wow we’re going to see that on replay until the the end of time is one of the coolest moments as the professor and Colton Embrace each other you’re one and two for event five Colton Martin’s touching golf best moment of the day 507 Bren fikowski 512 to lock in the one and two and Mike is on the floor with both of these men after their wins all right Brent you’ve did you’ve done exactly what you needed to do so far this weekend five events your RoR finish is ninth second on event number five and let’s talk about that finish looks like you played it perfectly you did the first rep you had it you think Colton will do one then he hit the double what was going through your mind when you saw that uh I think the same thing that was going through everybody’s mind what the hell I was kind of toying with him I I knew he’d be a little faster on the first two bars and I thought I’d be able to catch him on the heavier or two and I did until he did that so I was pretty impressed into my head I’m like well all right let’s lock up second here and I was able to do that and kudos to Colton now Colton did you in fact have that in your back pocket as you watch Brent kind of race ahead throughout that event was that the plan going in if you got to the bar with 100 points on the line you’re going to hit it for two well I knew Brent was going to be pretty much just as fast on those last few bars as he was the first a couple and I knew once he picked up that 265 before me I probably wasn’t going to beat him unless I did go touch and go so I said what to hell with it and then uh on the way down I decided to go for it and you know once I decided to go for it there was no way I was going to let that bar hit the ground well you’ve had a bit of a a bit of a roller coaster week and you’ve had two event wins two finishes outside of the top 20 one event to go you’re outside uh looking in going into that event we’ll see where things shake out on the leaderboard going in to the final event just how would you rate your weekend thus far with one event to go as you try to make it to Fort Worth for the CrossFit games uh you know I’d like to tell you that I underperformed or I made mistakes but so far it’s been a pretty fall this weekend for me for the most part and I performed as well as I could have I prepared as well as I could have and these other guys are damn good but if they want to take my spot they’re going to have to bleed to do it I’m fighting till the end gold Bren thank you very much we’ll see you for event [Applause] six what a way to end event five not to mention he now holds the record beating out bronislaw alenka Wick from Europe last week congratulations we have one event to go the women are up next we’ll see you in just a [Music] bit the West Coast Classic the 2024 round of applause ladies and gentlemen big shout out to Nicole mcin for finishing this heat first [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the final event of the day here at the tennis stadium in Carson your West Coast Classic I’m Lauren khil alongside Adrien Conway Mike Arseno is on the ground and this one is going to be a fast one but your sandings after five events ptie Cano your overall leader and the only athlete to clinch and qualify for the CrossFit Games before she even takes the floor for the last event what these athletes are looking at for the final event it is four time 22 Cals on the Echo Bike 15 muscle ups and then finishing it off with a 72t dumbbell walking lunge those dumbbells 70s in each hand a 6 Minute time cap Adrien what are we looking at out for the g rock steps to success push don’t send and what that means is the bike Pace alone you got to go fast and you got to be aggressive but if you go too deep too early your ring muscleups will be sloppy and also you will run out of juice on those lunges and then gorilla grip you got to understand that your grip is fatigue throughout the course this weekend and you got to sh it up on those dumbbells to make sure you make it the length of the course only eight women will qualify for the CrossFit games today here are your lane assignments all eyes are going to be on Olivia ketter in Lane number three if they were to recede she would be in the final heat she since 10th overall we’re going to send it down to Mike Areno with more you’re right Lauren Olivia finds herself in a tough spot 100 points on event number five put her in 10th Place she’s 19 points away from the qualification spot but the women ahead of her trissa Smith and Denny Spiegel are in Heat number four so she’s in a tough position of having to push as hard as she can on this event number six but not knowing where the women will place immediately ahead of her Adrian she was the Rookie of the Year last year at the CrossFit Games looking to return that’s right and there’s nothing greater than having this moment right here knowing that you are in control but you’ve got to do something a bit special she knows she’s going to have to take this heat and there’s no question about that these other women are going to be eying her from the back and they are off the final event of the Westco semifinal 22 calories on the Echo Bike is what they will kick this event off with hustle up is the official timekeeper of the CrossFit semi-finals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit World Tour visiting CrossFit gyms around the globe terms and conditions apply time to beat today 31312 from Nicole mcghin we got Gabrielle Spence tier currently in 12th Place 13 20 11 2510 pretty consistent output throughout the course the weekend for her she’s one of those athletes that’s a coach she’s also someone that hops in on the class workouts periodically Lauren but also got of course some extra stuff to get through to prepare her for such a level like this but you wonder where’s her mind at right now what kind of pace is she sustaining there is she going to be a little bit more casual here so she can go faster on the Rings we’re going to see a lot of different game plans come into execution here in just the next couple minutes and the first woman off of her bike Kelsey Keel getting to work along with Olivia curter on their ring muscleups they will have 15 to chip away with and it’s not necessarily a question of if they will come down unless they really do something miraculous right now and surprise me it’s about when eyeing from side to side being able to understand hey a lot of these women are going to be taking a short break at some point but how fast can they get back on the Rings Kelsey ke all the way to the left left and in the center is going to be Olivia ceter that’s your one and two both women coming down Mariana Mesa to your right her judge’s hand is in the air but she comes down so we have three hands in the air Olivia ketter Kelsey Keel Mariana Mesa Kelsey kill all the way to the left in the pink shorts black top just three reps to go she got a no rep costly oh she’s going to stay up and get the dip [Music] out as she takes a little bit more time curter judges hand is in the air but it’s Sydney mition Sydney mition is the first to now advance to the 72 ft of demile walking lunges we saw it last week these can be fatal as they get to the last section so we’ll see if they choose to hang on yeah you got to it’s important to have a pretty patient Pace here if you get out of control side to side too many wobbles with 140 lbs on your body it’s not going to end well the standard is simple they’ve got to Lunge continually until they pass a yellow line once they get that heel pass and extend the hips both of them all the way after they pass a line they can set the dumbbells down and that’s their restarting point so they don’t have to go unbroken but it’s a choice that we’re going to see some of these Heavy Hitters do we’re seeing Sydney mition right now but Olivia ketter is ning at her heels along with Rebecca Fus Olivia ketter puts her dumbbells down so does Sydney mition Rebecca Fus deciding to put him down we saw it in the game though Olivia ketter picks him back up Sydney melici who’s it going to be Kur Center puts them down mition decides to hang on Kelsey Keel all the way to the top of your screen hanging on and Kelsey keel will take the Heat win Cur Center also crossing the finish [Music] line but it won’t Edge out that overall best time to beat which was 312 both Keel and Cur Setter [Music] finished just under the 4minute mark [Music] Lindsay Martin making her way across a Finish Line and fusel trying to hang on to those dumbbells and she is in she is good Gabriel Spence also getting through her last set of lunges couple athletes on the floor setting the dumbbells down as we mentioned it’s that last final strip that last section where the fatigue really starts to set in with that grip yeah it’s not it’s not like we’ve seen a lot of lower body limitations here from these athletes it’s it’s purely that grip they want to keep going and they just can’t Chev is in in Lane seven Mariana Mesa she is finishing her last section of the lunges less than a minute until the cap and Mesa is in just two athletes left on the floor in Lane six Stacy lerum and in Lane eight Karissa staff who is still over on her ring muscleups L A short break and this is what the athletes got to do every time they break past one of those yellow lines they move the dumbbells back just to reset and that’s their new starting point she’s got to get going as she wants a chance to make it to the next line for another [Music] rep 10 seconds remain now she’s going to have to get her foot over the line and extend her hips all the way in three two that’s not going to count it won’t be enough because her feet ended on the line and that will close Heat number three of the win women Keel was your winner in this heat but it’s Olivia Ketter’s time that we’re going to be keeping an eye on as she looks to punch her second ticket to the CrossFit Games as an adult that’s right we had some back and forth mition ended up being the first one off the Rings here as you see the clear leader but I’ll tell you what we had the women at the far side of the lane made quick work of these lunges early that’s cursed at her breaking there which cost her the lead to K and K continued to go step for step stride for stride all the way through the Phenix you see her taking deep breaths in and out keeping herself calm keeping her grip in store showing the judge what they needed to see but it was Olivia Kur that her 19 points out going into this event and we’re going to see what happens as we got one more heat to go Cur is going to need some help going into the final heat of women we will see them shortly back on the floor final event of the day for the women when we return [Music] w [Music] eight spots are on the line one woman has officially clinched that spot to the CrossFit Games welcome back to the West Coast Classic here in Carson California I’m Lauren khil next to Adrien Conway Mike Arseno is on the floor as it heats up inside the Dignity Health Sports Park Kano she has clenched her spot her rookie spot to the CrossFit Games what a performance we’ve seen from thus far Hattie has put on a show all weekend putting her Fitness on display we talked about it earlier today yo to be the fittest in the West Coast Classic you do not have to win any particular event she’s put on a clinic scoring at the top in the top 10 almost every time she sits all the way at that top spot but just eight women will punch their ticket to the CrossFit Games Trista Smith looking to make her rookie debut as an elite woman just eight points behind Danny Spiegel final Event Event number five four time 22 Cals on the Echo Bike 15 muscle ups a 72t dumbbell walking lunge 70 lbs in each hand 6 Minute time cap Adrien the final one the final final what is our go Ru step to success it’s push don’t send you’ve got to be aggressive on the bike to give yourself time to work through the rings with time to spare for this event but then most importantly it’s gorilla grip and you got to have it on the dumbbells you’re coming off the Rings you’re tired but we saw how much of the limitation the grip on the dumbbells was in that last Heat keeping our eyes on those outside Lanes Lane one trissa Smith just 18 years old in Lane 10 Danny Spiegel looking to return to the CrossFit Games after not qualifying by one spot last year we’re going to toss it down to Mike with oh yeah and speak and Spiel there Lauren she knows exactly what she needs to do this is the thing she was in this situation last year on the cusp not knowing what to do not not knowing what was going to happen but she can deliver because she’s a games vet on the other hand we got a young Trista Smith here right now she’s just on the outside looking in a very different feeling than what Danny’s experiencing Danny feels cool Comm and collected now she’s just got to execute the way she needs to trista’s probably feeling a bit more urgency and probably has to be a a little bit more willing to take risk here going into this final and they are off 22 Cals on the Echo Bike is what they’re looking at for their first movement on event five hustle up is the official timekeeper of the CrossFit semi-finals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit World Tour visiting CrossFit gyms around the globe terms and conditions apply all right so we talked about push don’t send Kyra Milligan there the left of your screen also in position where she’s got to execute at a high level Spiegel there steady using her hands pushing pulling into that urg and for more on Danny let’s now go down to Mike thank you very much Lauren Danny has done what she’s needed to do so far on this third day of competition currently an eight-point cushion for that last last qualification spot for the CrossFit games so Adrian quick question to you because they’re so far away uh Danny in Lane 10 we have Trista in Lane number one what point do you risk taking a peak to see where your competitor is cuz it’s not like they’re right beside each other having all that distance between you is it more important to just run your race when do you start maybe looking a little bit to your uh to your right to see where Trista is if you’re Danny you you know for this event Mike you’ve got a you’ve got to be willing to push and ride your threshold throughout I’m looking less right to left and I’m less concerned about my fellow competitors and I’m really going to lean into the blistering Pace that I can establish and on these ring muscle ups you’ve got to be a bit generous as we saw no reps lost Keel some time in the last he we watched Olivia kader come down a few times like we mentioned it’s not necessarily if more about when these athletes will break and you got to be smart about that so I would suggest that they run their own race and Danny Spiegel she needs a third or better in this event to clinch her spot to the CrossFit Games judge’s hand is in the air for Emily rol in Lane six but in Lane seven Abigail don’t she is already on her lunges as well as Alex gazan both of these young ladies went unbroken on 15 ring muscleups extremely impressive when you consider the amount of work that’s already taken place but something we know about Alex think about those legless rope climbs yesterday upper body pulling that is a wheelhouse movement for her it is a race for the top seeing if these athletes hold on to the dumbbells time to beat 313 from Nicole mcin back at Heat number two time on the clock just about 240 Alex gazan looks like she has no interest to drop those barbells with one more length to [Music] go she will hang on one more step from her judge she will hang on under three minutes for that top overall time for Alex gazan you think she was a little fired up after that snatch ladder on that last event I think she was yeah her and her coach J there was a real Vendetta out for old number event six here Abby [Music] doit she is making the charge across the finish line for what could be the second best time in event [Music] six yeah here’s here’s race spel this is what we were looking at Trista Smith just picking up her dumbells Danny Spiegel saying I am already done 345 unofficially we’ll see how that shakes up with these other scores and that’s what she needed she needed to handle her business have some athletes separate her and Trista Smith optimally to even create more of a cushion but it looks like Danny Spiel has handled the business the way that she needed to she passed several athletes on that lunge alone Bethany Flores Ariel loen and Kyra Milligan just crossing the Finish Line Kyra needing a fifth or better in this one to guarantee her spot Trista Smith one more length to go for her she’s got to hang on that right hand starting to slip here we’ll see she can hang on she’s got about one more step if she can stabilize she’ll stand up her judge will say it’s good just under 440 hadie Cano enjoying every moment as she lunges across this Finish Line Lauren let me tell you Cano has just punched her rookie ticket to the CrossFit Games What a Feeling years of hard work Caitlyn Bernardin crossing the finish line as the buzzer we have at least one rookie from the women out of West Coast Classic going to the CrossFit Games and what a way she did it just come on out and win the West Coast Classic and then go to the CrossFit games huh out of nowhere but we know from these athletes it’s not out of nowhere there is so much hard work time Dedication that goes into just getting to semifinals let alone getting to the games that’s right and and what you want to hope for is an opportunity to have a breakthrough performance just like Haddie did this weekend it’s she showed up healthy she showed up and had an opportunity to do her very best on all six events and it really paid off for her now it was a race out the gate on the bike but let me tell you this was a one-sided Story the entire way Alex gazam went unbroken for 15 ring muscleups and didn’t even consider putting down the dumbbells Abby also went unbroken on the Rings but she had to take a break a couple times that grip blew out Alex didn’t even make a consideration and I guarantee you her and just and Coller came together after that snatch letter and said hey it’s time to make a statement let’s make them understand what’s about to happen out in Fort Worth Texas here when the CrossFit Games roll around and let’s take a look at your overall standings Alex gazan your overall top spot but Olivia ceter finishing sixth it’s going to be tight we’re going to have to go to scoring to see if she was in fact able to punch that ticket back to the games Lauren this never gets old for me I’m going to be honest with you event six looking at the scores it’s so tight what’s the cut off look like what are the standings going to be scoring give us some answers cuz I can’t wait to find out she earned 85 points we’re going to crunch some numbers we’re going to go down to the floor now Mike with gazan all right Alex pretty good weekend for you uh two event wins a 23rd Place and event number five but I know you’re not peing in for this weekend you’re peing for August so how would you rate your performance over these six events um for the most part good obviously like I don’t love a 23rd Place finish and those are holes I want to close but obviously have some home runs that are exciting and I’m just excited to put it all together for the games so I know the training will differ a little bit we’ll kind of get outside maybe some more unconventional training over the next 8 to 10 weeks is there something kind of classic CrossFit that you really want to hammer on over the next two months um snatches um no but I feel like games training is so much fun everything’s harder heavier and that’s my jam all right well we’ll see you in Fort Worth congratulations thank you so much and all of the women from Heat number three watching as heat four goes to see if their times hold up where they will be in the mix as we send another set of athletes to to the CrossFit game gazan punching her ticket again yeah and and and I’m going to tell you even even to be an onlooker here is one of the athletes standing by of course they Corral everybody keep them close this is for the reason is for you know drug testing and everything else has got to take place after we find out who’s going to Fort Worth but I’ve been in this situation it’s like hurry up and wait and you’re just praying and crossing your fingers somebody else we know who’s going to the CrossFit games for her rookie dayb Hattie Cano let’s send it down to Mike standing by with her on the floor Hattie what a performance this weekend over the six events you really established yourself as a name to watch in this Sport and your first appearance at semi-finals you making your first appearance at the games just for people unfamiliar with you just what type of athlete are you oo it’s a good question I’m a feisty one I don’t know uh I’m a happy one I don’t know I’m just really grateful to be here I’m happy to be here it’s been an unreal experience so we’re 8 to 10 weeks out uh from the CrossFit game so what what types of training are you planning on doing over the next two months to get yourself ready for Fort Worth o a lot more of stuff like this a lot more lunging with heavy weight and what about in terms of your your confidence level because you came in somewhat of an unknown athlete to to many uh people watching here in the stadium and watching around the world at home so what did you learn about yourself over these six events that I am capable short and sweet congratulations Addie on a great performance we see you in a couple months thank you I can’t wait to learn more about her Trista Smith sitting on the bubble Adrien what does it feel like in that moment hey it’s hard it’s hard to be there in that moment to be honest with you and uh I’ve been on both sides of it I’ve gotten to wait and punch my ticket and I’ve gotten to wait and be sent back home stay with us everybody we’ll see who’s going to the games when we return oh [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he oh [Music] [Music] [Music] you [Music] you [Music] M uh m [Music] [Applause] [Music] o m [Music] [Applause] [Music] m [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] welcome back everybody we are now going to go spinger [Applause] a in seventh place with 423 points Bethany Flores [Applause] and Now ladies and gentlemen for the final qualifying spot for a trip to the 2024 CrossFit Games in eighth place with 417 points Kyon m [Applause] ladies and gentlemen here are your 2024 West Coast Classic qualifiers for the 2024 CrossFit Games Abigail Dolan Alex gazan Ariel loen Hattie Cano Emily roof Danny Spiegel Bethany Flores and Kai Milligan we will see you at the 2024 CrossFit Games such an emotional moment for so many athletes the the highs of qualifying for your rookie year two women to qualify that will be rookies but the others that are on the cut line and the emotion coming from them overall standings Abby doit wow winning consistent see pays off that’s what we saw from Abby doid this weekend top 10 all weekend Lauren all weekend long and then right above that cutline Kyra Milligan she’ll be making her individual rookie debut in Texas this summer all of that hard work she’s been doing with her coach has paid off yeah it has and I’m going to tell you right now these women are about to embark on some of the funnest training they’ll ever go go through in their entire life getting getting ready for the CrossFit game games is truly a blessing and a gift they put so much pressure on themselves for this semi-final floor and now they’re going to reap the rewards being able to have a fruitful summer of training let’s go down to the floor with Mike for a reaction Abigail you are the champion of the West Coast Classic uh consistent performances across the board six events every finish was inside of the top 10 how were you able to create such a consistent performance with all of these great athletes competing with you um I’m really not sure well we we really wanted to get at least Podium this year and then after quarters we were like I don’t want to do any worse than that and so we were like just just win it you know and as as the weekend went on I was just like I don’t know but I don’t know here we are you had your first appearance at the CrossFit games last year you’re going back to Fort Worth in August what did you learn about the experience last year that you’ll take with with you coming up in a few months oh so much I just know when we get home we’re going to have two really really hard months of training and I’m just I’m so ready for it we expected it this year last year the season felt so long and so now I’m just I’m more seasoned I know myself better and I’m just ready for it and I can embrace it I can go home rest for a few days and then it’s it’s go time well congratulations you’re are the champion of the North America West semi final thank you so much now also joining Abigail at the CrossFit Games coming up in Fort Worth Kyra Milligan tremendous performance you went to the games last year as a member of a team now you’re going as an individual what does this mean to you I’m so excited um last year I decided to go team because I did wasn’t sure if I was ready for individual and then after team I was just missing being on the individual field and so I’m just so excited to be back out here well was the difference in your training uh this year compared to last year last year we a member of a team this year it’s all on you facing the top women in this sport what changed I think my mindset um definitely like the people that I’m training around it’s been such a positive impact on this year and my coach and boyfriend he doesn’t let me complain or baby out on anything so it’s been a good year and I’m excited I’m sure he’s going to devise some fun workouts for you over the next eight to 10 weeks congratulations thank you so much let go a great example of what betting on yourself does it pays off especially for Kyra Milligan eight women going to the CrossFit Games we still need to Crown nine men their final heat is coming up next [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] 10 seconds standby final event for Heat number one heat natov edging out zanet on officially 334 and now zanet will have to go [Music] back Jordan Eldridge in Lane three final section here as we approach four minutes another good lunge he’ll have one more to clear it Lane number three Jordan alridge will cross oh Brian will have to go back and S it on attempt number two will be all done right around 420 and just over 90 seconds remaining athletes a 6-minute Time [Music] cap Samuel spurlin starting that last one about a half step ahead of him though just in lane and a lane will cross just ahead of sperlin followed by Nick [Music] Thomas and that will do it all of he won the [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] w [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] 10 seconds stand by here we go ladies and gentlemen Heat number two the final event for these athletes here on the main stage it is All or Nothing fighting for some bragging rides game their placement on the leaderboard which one of these athletes going to take down Marlo’s top time of 302 30 calories on the Rogue Echo Bike 15 muscle ups and a 72 72t dumbbell walking lunge with two 100 dumbbells the man the myth the legend Sam dancer up on to the Rings first approaching that first minute several athletes getting onto those Rings dancer and Gibbs going rep forre with one another who’s going to get to 15 muscle up [Music] quick break for dancer waiting to see judge’s hands in the air on these ring muscleups Gibbs and Dancer both breaking at the same time but it is Gibbs who strikes first Lane number four trying to be the first athlete off the Rings Lane number 10 Zachary Bunton with just two more muscle up to go Bunton may have taken over the lead with one more muscle up to go Bunton looking to be the first athlete off of the Rings and he is Let’s Make some noise for Lane number 10 Zachary Bunton Bunton taking some time to adjust his knee sleeves allowing Sam dancer to catch him dancer picking up the dumbbells first and now they are both on their walking lunge Journey fight to the Finish here dancer buned but Coots with a quick stride looking to wrap this thing up just past that two and 1/2 minute mark CPS no sign of slowing down here one more section to go for [Music] cots he will cross unofficial 249 CS out of nowhere getting it done same goes for Lane number two Brandon faing Brandon getting it done dancer finishing up his 2024 West Coast Classic Journey approaching that 3 and 1 half minute Mark here next athlete looking to cross Dylan Gibbs and he will cross we are approaching the 4minute Mark we still have a handful of athletes working Mike Evans looking to wrap up his weekend here one more section of lunges to go Carson bring him in let’s go one more and he will finish ra sansen also going to take a quick break aruro finishes just behind that [Applause] line we are at the 4 and A2 minute Mark we still have three make that four athletes reaching for the Finish Line ra will cross just ahead of Roberts we got just about a minute 15 remaining here our turle working on that second to last section here going straight into his final section Lane number nine Chase Smith one minute aruro looking to reset 45 seconds remain Chase Smith rur will cross 30 seconds remain here Chase Smith two sections to go 20 seconds left Carson he needs some love let’s [Applause] go 10 [Applause] seconds five 3 two one [Music] [Applause] time that’ll wrap up he number two for these Elite men [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Music] aah [Music] [Music] [Music] two Heats down two to go for the final event for the men here at the West Coast Classic in Carson California I’m Lauren khil next to Adrien Conway Mike Areno is on the floor and we already have some competitive times from the previous Heats of event number six 30 cows on the Echo Bike 15 muscle ups 72t dumbbell walking lunge with hundreds in each of these men’s hands time cap 6 minutes but the time to beat is under 3 minutes Adrien our go Ruck set to success for the last one Lauren it’s push don’t send but I’m going to say I might need to take that back after watching Sam dancer go sub 40 seconds on his first 30 calories these guys got to remain in control and then of course it’s gorilla grip on the dumbbells we’ve seen many people fail in the in between portions of the floor and they got to make it the full distance your lane assignments with just nine men going to the CrossFit Games what’s on the line is Lane number seven and Lane number six tutor Magda he is right on that cut line sitting just 34 points on the outside that’s right tutor’s going to have to do something miraculous right here he might have to go into full mode on the bike and hold on for dear life on those rings and just see what happens I’m going to tell you right now he’s got that 302 19th Place those are out outliers he got a seven four and a six there and then you got Drake Lewis I talked to him before this event went down he was like I guess I’m going to have to go full send I got nothing to lose so let’s see what these guys have in store for us on this fast short and aggressive workout nothing’s impossible we certainly saw that last weekend in Europe the men are underway chipping away 30 KS Laur and all got the bike huming I can hear the fans all the way up here where we’re at I mean it’s like they’re leaning into it look at tutor effortless action these guys some of them leaning forward some of the shorter guys with shorter arms got to really lean forward a bit more the taller guys get to stay more upright stay a bit more relaxed but they’re going to be trying to focus on pushing equally with their hands as they are with their legs hustle up is the official timekeeper of the CrossFit semifinals scan the QR code on the screen for a chance to win a CrossFit world tour visit visiting CrossFit gyms around the globe terms and conditions apply Lane six tutor Magda he is already onto your muscle ups as well as John Wood in Lane number three chipping away at 15 I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a handful of men go unbroken Adrien yeah I agree Benton was also up there onto his ring muscleups about that same time as this lead pack Max CRA also up there Lewis now working through his ring muscle ups for most of these guys 15 is doable but the question Lauren is with their grip taxed with their shoulders fatigued and with this being the third day of high level competition are the 15 ring muscleups doable hand in the air traven Benton hand in the air John Wood time to beat Daniel cous 252 a blistering Pace Magda Magna done he’s got a pick him up because traven is also grabbing him grabbing the dumbbells Magna making slight work with the dumbbells one lunge after another there’s no pausing there’s no gathering for tutor leg strength is something that we’ve never questioned with this young man he loves a heavy barbell he loves a heavily loaded workout and it’s all about putting it together for him Tut Maga one section left going to put up the time to beat with dominance one more step and he is in 216 unofficially the new time to beat when you tell tutter he needs to get a job done this man delivers John Wood here one step at a time ah you see that fter with the dumbbells if they touch the line before he gets that full step across the line ah going to have to go back and that’s what we start to see as you get further to this next round who has pushed too hard on the bike in the ring muscleups really testing that grip strength also coming across just a couple more steps in lane four Tristan Harris and right next to him in Lane five Max got to hold on oh he didn’t do it he has to go back they both have to go back Bon here Harrison Wise Choice [Music] Lewis having to walk his dumbbells back one at a time and he takes one at a time this is to try to save his grip a little bit right so he’s trying to use both hands at the same time to Tristan Harris almost through but he’s got company next to him he will make it through John Wood will make it through and then C will make it through bendit oh and get a no rep he need to this is the window that these athletes are looking for is can the other athletes have to go back while the ones who took a rest make it through Lane seven Lewis will lock it in Adam McAdam stepping across for his finish just three athletes left on the floor Scott TLO about halfway through as in Lane number one Justin roads locks it in for his final event of the weekend dor M up hands in the air he doesn’t know if he did enough we still have one heat to go that’s right and it’s it’s hard to say right TLO still working through now Lauren TLO he’s he’s staying in the same location we are we’ve had a lot of side conversation with him throughout the the weekend he openly admitted yeah he openly admitted that he’s been battling a bit of an injury so these lunges weren’t actually something he was able to prepare for and he didn’t know if he’d even make it through to this position in the weekend healthy enough to be able to show this as a as a capacity so I’d imagine that he knew this would be a bit of a struggle and to be quite honest with you I think he might be a little bit grateful just to be out here on the competition floor in one of these last two Heats with what he shared with us throughout the course of the weekend and at this point you know that you’re not in contention to qualify for the CrossFit Games you just want to be able to finish your weekend and get through the events time cap here is 6 minutes so about 45 left on the clock Scott TLO brings his dumbbells back at that halfway point of the 72t dumbbell walking lunge hundreds in each hand this has also been I think publicly admitted that this will be this will kind of Scott swansong here this is this is this is his final year of being all in on the competitive side of things so he he’s going to try to soak up these moments as much as he’s grinding and still in the pain cave the crowd getting behind him as he sets the dumbbells down just 5 seconds left and that will be the cap for Heat number three but tutor Magna not only putting up the time to beat heading into the fourth and final heat of 21699 but this is a new event record 10 men left to take the floor for event number six just sending nine men to the CrossFit Games we’ll see the final coming up next [Music] [Music] the stakes are high this event is fast a beautiful view of downtown LA but we are inside the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson California I’m Lauren khil next to Adrien Conway Mike Areno is on the floor for the final event of the West Coast Classic after five events with one to go for this final heat Brent fikowski Standing On Top of the leaderboard but at the cut line Colton Merkin Cole Sager are separated by just three points with one event to go what’s on the line it’s four time 30 calories on that Echo Bike 15 muscle ups 72t walking dumbbell Lounge lunge 100 lb in each hand 6-minute time cap Adrien what is our go rock set to success after watching some of those men have a the same Lauren it’s going to be push don’t send you’ve got to be in just enough control getting off the bike to be focused on the Rings and the lunges and then gorilla grip if you want to have a chance to beat tutor magnet time at 216 you better hold on to those dumbbells and go [Music] unbroken and in your lane assignments smack dab in the middle Pat velner he is your overall leader but it’s Lanes 10 and8 those are the athletes one is on the inside one is on the outside and Magda after putting up the best time to beat he is standing by watching very carefully who or if anybody is going to take down his time of 216 tutor did everything he he needed to right he was 34 points out and he needed he was the one that had to do things ins inside his control now we’re looking at Mertens this man needs a second or better if he wants to actually guarantee him spot to go to the CrossFit Games and for more on Sager on the other side of the cut line let’s go down to Mike well you mentioned Cole Sager 10 CrossFit Games appearing es in a row this would make number 11 tying the alltime record he’s been here before though multiple times in his career he’s been outside the cut line going into the final event and then booked his ticket to the CrossFit games let’s see if he can do it again here in event number six 10 seconds till the final event everything is on the line for just nine spots who is going to Texas and the final heat of the men are underway 30 calories he is going to get after it because he wants to make this 11 he wants to join bkg to punch 11 consecutive tickets to the CrossFit Games Lauren Cole is no unfamiliar person to just sending it on the final and punching his ticket to the CrossFit Games we’ve seen him do this time and time again slightly behind or slightly ahead doing what he needs to do in order to get by Luckett went full send on that bike 33 seconds in and he’s off off and Brett pakowski also joining him jumping up for their set of ring muscle ups I’m not going to be surprised to see all of these men most of these men going on broken on the set of 15 luck it using more of a violent Kip there driving his hip open Luckett is in the center Cole Sager to your left Colton Mertens was to your right everything is on the line in under six minutes hand up for pakowski and Brent fikowski needs a second or first to guarantee that he wins the West Coast Classic Mertens drops already someone that needs to have a great score and finish in this event already dropping down to take some take some rest for Kowski is often onto the dumbbells keeping in mind Colton Mertens is sitting in that 10th spot Cole in in ninth Bren fikowski takes a deep breath Pat velner is joining him but Brandon Luckett first to strike he moves with those dumbbells but the professor going step for step with luck at just about an inch ahead of him but when the party really starts is that last walk of the lunges Bowski has to go back calculated break for Brent there luck it’s going to try to hold on at least for another rep with just 21 on the screen that means tutor Maga from the Heap before will hang on to the best time of 21597 but it is a race at the Finish Line Justin mados Pat beler James Frank Bren pakowski who will get their feet over for MOS across it was maderas Browski has to go back with a no ref as p felner and James frag lock it in and Cole Sager but Colton Mertens right behind him Colton Mertens right behind luck it needs an Aether better if he wants to guarantee himself he’s got to get across the Finish Line it’s Sager locks it in and might have done enough to go back to the crosfit games Mertens has to go back Browski is in which just might punch Cole’s 11th ticket to the CrossFit Games wow and that no rep was just demoralizing the Mertens I mean it completely dropped his whole mood he went back had to ask the judge where he needed his dumbbells to go tutor just standing by did I do enough was it enough he doesn’t know he shakes his head no he’s not sure as we approach the 3 minutes and 31 seconds unofficially Grease saers still finishing up that was good enough for 19 in the event for Colton Mertens earning him 46 points and that will be time Cole GRE saer did make it in and if that wasn’t what you want to see for a final event punching tickets to the CrossFit Games Adrian I don’t know what is we got our money’s worth Lauren we we squeeze out every penny of the final [Music] event Tor wondering if he did enough he earned himself not just an event win an event record across all semis semifinals thus far you know Cole’s family has to be really unappreciative of the way he likes to make them draw it all the way through the end every year Cole shame on you shame on you all these people that love and care about you once you go to the CrossFit Games I hope they send him care packages or he sends them care packages after to make it worth it look at him on the bike yeah and and and you know what it was a battle all the way through every one of these men look at the look at the ferocity and The Bravery that they attack this Ur with like you guys know that if you get the EO bike huming like that the G isn’t going to even settle in until about 45 seconds later this is where they got hit by it right here that delay and onset of lactate build up creates a burn that is almost unmatched and that’s where you feel it oh by the way you got 200 lb baring down on your soul walking through these lunges Browski was steady and smooth James bre came up from the back but it was Justin freaking mados with that mean mullet one step at a time he even hastened his Pace at the end and started taking bigger steps such calculated risk for him to execute at the end and it was so clean well done here are your overall results from event six tutor Magda holding the best time ahead of 15 seconds Justin maderas we’re going to go down on the floor with Justin maderas and Mike Justin I think you saved the best for last in event number six what a race what was that like coming down that final 12-ft stretch with it looks like six or seven of you all lined up yeah man it was crazy man I mean we knew that’s what it was going to be I mean such a cool programmed event just to see the race right out on the floor I mean whoever gets the red mat first wins and uh I saw the race I was kind of behind and I knew I kind of haded to pick up the pace and I was able to catch him and man it was awesome man thanks to all everyone here yelling loud and uh made me do those lunges pretty quick huh your performance over these three days is really what we’re used to seeing from you I think your worst position was seventh uh throughout the six events so just again the picture of consistency what was your what was your training like in the off season not this the Finish you won at the games last year so did you change anything in preparation for the 24 2024 season yeah man I mean last year definitely was at what I wanted I mean I don’t to compete compete to lose and uh it was a huge learning experience and I definitely learned a lot and uh promise I’m not going to make those mistakes again but I’m so excited our team’s fir on all cylinders and Sager Brandon Luckett Chris Ibara Samuel Quant Patrick velner James sprag Brent fikowski and your 2024 West Coast Classic Champion Justin mades the look on Cole gree saber’s face when they said his name Adrien surprise relief exhaustion all of the emotions flooding and I’m sure it’s followed I mean I’m sure he’s joyful and all these things but I mean look at the young man right there he’s been put through the ringer the last three days right it’s the UPS the down that’s right and I’m sure he’ll do some celebrating with friends and family but wow what an emotional roller coaster final standings just three points locked him in ahead of tutor Magda but take a look at the sixth overall Chris iara he will be the next rookie the only rookie from the men’s field to go to the CrossFit Games Lauren a lot of things on this leaderboard are not surprising but Chris AAR at number six wow the only rookie from the men’s side punching his ticket and I’ll say Justin mados looking smooth as butter lowest finish top seven new goatee on his facial hair little leaner physique than we even saw last year he’s looking good and he’s looking polished heading to for wor they’re looking good we’ll go down to the floor with Mike who’s with Cole and Cole Cole Sager you are going to the CrossFit Games for the 11th time tying the alltime record with bkg yeah can you sum up this weekend and going back to the CrossFit Games once again why do I got to keep playing with fire I mean come on um you know I’m just thankful you know what I mean I just there’s a lot of Grace in getting to do this year after year after year and to be able to see the sport uh evolve and transform and continue to be supported by this community uh means way more than I can articulate and I’m just thankful for it I think by our calculation unofficially that might be the third time in your career that you’ve been outside of a qualification spot and made it into the CrossFit Games in the final event how do you lean on your experience to get you through those difficult moments you know it’s one of those things like I think in the experience you have to understand that every event has to take place you can’t get caught up in what is and what could be if the whole event hasn’t or the whole weekend hasn’t unfolded yet you know if you order things things differently it may look like I in it the whole time so it’s like stay objective stay outside of it keep hope be positive execute on your plan it’s a great mindset it works congratulations we’ll see you in Texas thank you brother appreciate you guys so much love you guys all right Cole I have to admit I was watching your face while we were waiting for those names to be announced and you look like you were going to be sick to your stomach so now you’ve had a moment or two to process you’re going back to the CrossFit Games what does this mean to you this means everything to me this is um my job and it just means so much that I was able to do just enough and fight through the whole weekend not being in the top heat for day two was hard for me but I’m proud of myself for fighting back in on day three and not giving away you had a bit of a roller coaster of a weekend you had some really great performances some performances I’m sure you would like back or maybe you You’ change some things so so what is your focus in terms of preparation and training going to be over the next 10 weeks yeah so I have a a history of not being great on the outdoorsy events so it’ll be a priority for me and my coaching staff to make the most of our time so I can get ready for those specific events we’re getting outdoorsy cool congratulations thank you sir getting out dorsy I like that one they’re going to take probably a week off but then off to games training for these guys it’s off to games training and it is such a blessing and a gift for them to be able to do that and have a fruitful summer and a purpose-driven training regime but I want to say Cole Seager that lesson right there that he shared hey you can’t be so emotionally invested that before the six total tests are done to judge too harshly because that’s what a full scope of test and that’s what the semi-final actually means after the six then we see who’s the fittest it’s not four it’s not five but it’s through completion he did a great job doing that this weekend and with half of the events being on the last day that’s not something that they’re using to so if you are busy leader boarding or getting invested in your placement that can be a whole mind twist before you’re even done with half of the events that’s right what an incredible event nine athletes for the men eight for the women seven teams that we are sending to the CrossFit Games here from the iconic tennis stadium in Carson California I’m Lauren khil thank you all for tuning in all weekend long alongside Adrien Conway Mike Arsenal thank you guys and we will see you next week in Knoxville Tennessee [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] for

  2. Can the commentators talk about what's happening on the floor instead of telling stories about who they talked to yesterday? We can't always see what's happening with the tight camera angles so we rely on the commentators to let us know. The announcers in the arena usually do a better job commentating than the actual commentators.

  3. Judge didn't count 1 rep for Dani speegle. She did 11 reps in first. These judges sleep and spoil others efforts

  4. This coverage didnt capture how crazy Dani's push was at the end! She was still on the rings when almost all the athletes were starting their lunges. Then once she was off the rings, she just sprinted to the finish and passed everyone on the floor!!

  5. How come this lady broadcaster can pronounce T’s perfectly in every word except when she has to say “Martin” or “Important” she turns into Tisha Campbell? 😑

  6. How and why is it so hard to find out who made the games? I need a recap video by CrossFit for each region and at the end who made it? Also an all incompassing video of who will be at the games. If you are going to be primary YouTube then start getting these videos out fast! You can't just do a live video call it Sunday with multiple heats and hours of dead air time in the video. We need bang bang quick information.

That also goes for the website. The first thing you see on the website should be a large box with all the regions and the score and then a line of who made it. Then possible also a summary of all athletes current in the game as of right now.

  7. It would drive me nutz to have that announcer piped over the master while I was trying to kick some arsicle.

  8. I would have loved to see Colton make it too but honestly he’s too short to be successful on the men’s side. He’s great and strong but his short stature makes it hard for him when compared against other elite athletes

  9. @arielleloewen1 for the win. Honestly i teared up watching her mom instincts come out when she went to console Trista. So genuine in the face of success and defeat simultaneously. What a class act.

  10. Colten Touch and Go on the last snatch on the ladder was simply INSANE!!! Most exciting moment of the weekend!!! Wow!!!

So sad to see he didn’t make it to the games

    Keep fighting Colten
    Never give up
    Amazed by your efforts
