e e e e [Music] [Music] two teams who have fallen on rough times try to write the ship tonight in Hartford as Hartford athletic plays Monterey Bay FC good evening along with my comrade Mark Donaldson I’m Jody D Ambrosio and Mark both these teams in desperate need of three points yeah but we know where they’re both capable of Joe because they both started the season pretty well all it takes is one victory for either side to build a little bit of momentum last Saturday night Hartford went on the road coming off a disappointing result against switchbacks here they took the trip to a place where they universally have not played well Indie it started off with an own goal in the third minute and unfortunately for the for athletic it just got worse from there yeah you can’t really get much worse than an own goal in the third minute but Hartford find a way to make it worse by defending like this sometimes not even in the same zip code the defense all over the place however Mishi inulina right to the death managed to score 10 minutes from time no celebration from him understandably so it was just a consolation but there’s Talent on both these two SS Hartford has lost five in a row it’s the fifth time in six seasons that they have hit that kind of a rough patch and obviously as you said we’ve seen this team play better they have to get back to what made them successful early in the year it’s been a fair bit of chopping and changing there’s been injuries there’s been suspensions but just find a way to get it back to what worked earlier in the season the fact that they’ve conceded the first goal in each of their last six games played maybe it’s more about keeping the door shut at the back and then seeing if you can build from that because they were up at the top end of the Eastern Conference towards the start of the season after those three wins since then they’ve dropped to where they are now yeah only two points out of the eighth spot it’s the top eight who get to the playoffs meanwhile Monterey Bay winless in their last four scoring only two goals in that stretch of time it’s a beautiful night for soccer two desperate teams set to kick it off here at Trinity confuse the montere bay defense by constantly having movement that’s much better we’re calling for more movement just after the goal because there are a lack of options that was better there as long environment to go in and play um given a slight altitude nothing crazy but but um El Pas is a good team a lot of new faces just like ourselves so it was important to start the season strong um Come Away with maximum points and to get on a score sheet was was a great feeling in your career you’ve had great success from the spot what’s your secret to success not wanting to give anything way to the opposition right um I mean just I think it just comes to confidence um just being I mean it’s not just myself um we have a lot of guys on this team who are capable of executing from the spot so um just being able to you know be in that position and just you know Steer the goalkeeper down and just try to pick your spot and it worked and it worked there’s actually a story Callum Wilson who plays for Newcastle practices penalties from 13 yards not 12 not 12 because when he plays in a game and takes a penalty the goals look bigger to him so just a little thing if you maybe want to take I mean I do take a PK or two every every day after practice and you dick it well as well I’m not trying you’re not trying to reinvent the wheel right you know what I mean so it’s lot of people like don’t like to practice those stuff but the goalkeepers they’ll tell you like I’m I’m practicing a PK or two every single day after practice because at the end of the day that’s you know that’s the game sometime the games come down to a PK and obviously like in the open cup it’s a cup game where game could potentially go to distance and you’re going to need PKS so it’s always good to get those reps in and have that confidence there was a reason I mentioned Newcastle there because M aliron former teamate Vi at Atlanta Joseph Martinez as well when you won the MLS Cup in 2018 playing with them having that experience what can you bring to some of the younger players at this football club to help them um just just be just being a pro you know being a pro you know being somebody that you know when you know the younger guys see me out there on the field whether it’s practice or a game you know they can look at me and say you know this guy takes it seriously you know he’s 10 years in and he’s still as hungry as he you know what I mean and that’s that’s something that I noticed with those guys um they didn’t settle for the success that they had you know every single day they came in whether it was practice or games you know especially Joseph he was he was hungry you know and I tell people all the time like with Joseph we would tie a game 3- three and he would have a hatrick but he’s pissed because not only does he want to score but he wants to win more than anything else and I think you know having that winning mentality you can see it which is why he was so successful from a personal standpoint you know he always wants to win everything and there’s a burning desire to be great to be good consant week in week out you know consistency so I think that’s something that I learned from both of those guys you know Miguel as well and you can see the success he’s having right now at Newcastle you know so yeah I I think you know just seeing that from those guys and trying to implement that into my own preparation and you know bringing it onto the practice field and obviously games each and every week hopefully that’s something guys can lean on what was it about Harford that attract you hear well other than being familiar with the city and and um having a lot of I’d say family friends here and immediate family as well I’ll say Brendon um I think the answer is that simple yeah to be honest um the minute you know I found out that he was coming here and the first conversation we had you know it it was an no- bring you know it was something that I genuinely truly wanted to be a part of and um obviously I missed out on the opportunity to work with him in Colorado because he was the one who signed me and brought me there but then he moved out to Houston so you know having that
