so the question in this video is how far should you hit your irons I get asked that question all the time in golf lessons hey how far should I hit my seven iron how far should I be hitting my hybrid I’m GNA give you the same answer I give them I don’t know there’s no way I should know how far you hit the iron now before you jump off this video saying man I wanted this guy to tell me how far I should hit the ball and now he’s telling me he doesn’t know let me give you the factors and the the components involved into figuring out your distance and we’ll figure out how far you should hit your clubs because it doesn’t matter how far I hit my clubs it doesn’t matter how far anybody hits their clubs it’s how far can you hit your clubs and let’s figure that out so welcome into my video welcome back to my channel I really really like this topic because again it’s questions that are asked of me all the time and so if all of my students are asking me these questions that means that the majority of the golfers out there have the same question and I like to answer your questions so how far should we hit the golf ball with our irons first factor that goes into this thing what are the loft of your irons the manufacturers these days in the golf industry there are no standards way back in the day when I was growing up hey everybody’s seven iron was the same everybody’s seven iron had the same amount of Loft everybody’s five iron had the same amount of Loft today within one company the different models of golf clubs The Lofts are all the same I are all different so let’s just use a couple of examples from the company that I play their equipment I’m a Callaway staff professional and let’s just use a couple of different irons so the Callaway Paradigm smoke iron the seven iron 28 degrees of Loft now in that Callaway Paradigm smoke iron they also have a high launch model seven iron loft 30° of Loft I play a combination set of the Apex I’ve got Apex Pro in the four iron through the seven iron and it’s the Apex CB in the 8 n in the pitching wedge my Apex Pro 7 iron 33° left so there is a situation right there within one company between my set of clubs and the Paradigm set of clubs there is 5 de Loft difference between my seven iron and the other seven iron and what this is telling me is I should probably be playing the smoke cuz my golf shots are getting shorter and shorter and shorter I should move away from these C forged clubs anymore but I’m not going to yet I still like them too much so there’s one factor in how far you should hit your clubs find out what the Lofts are and and we’ll go from there now let me tell you the real factors that go into how far you hit your irons so the number one factor in how far you hit your irons and how far they should go is how solid do you hit it are you consistently hitting the ball in the middle of the club face are you consistently hitting the ball with a club face that’s Square does the shaft of your golf club swing on plain and with that square shaft you are then maximizing the effect effectiveness of this club do you have shaft lean coming into the ball okay all of those factors go into how far a golf ball goes so if you’re a golfer that’s a really good player and you’ve got a good pivot and you’ve got the shaft on plane and you’ve got a square Club face and you’re really good at hitting it in the middle of the golf in the club face and you’ve got shaft lean well you’re going to be very consistent and you’re going to figure out exactly how far you can hit your irons using the next part of this that I’m going to talk about and be able to be very consistent and be able to judge your clubs your clubs in their distances now if you’re a golfer that’s out there that you’ve got a club shaft that’s off plane you’ve got a club face that’s not Square you’re never hitting the ball solid you’re h hitting it on the toe you’re hitting it on the heel you’re hitting it in the middle of the club face you’re hitting it on the the Leading Edge you’re going to be all over the board and so what you need to do is you need to figure out a swing that you can make that you can more consistently hit that ball solid okay now the last factor in how far the golf ball goes and I really really think this one is one of the most important is what speed can you s that allows you to still hit the most solid shot and trust me here it’s never full speed so there is an optimal speed for everybody and everybody’s speed is going to be a little bit different and you’ve got to find out what that speed is again that allows you to hit the most consistent golf shot that you can hit I know going way back this is going back into the 1990s I was changing my swing and I just I had to start off when I was changing my swing just going real real slow as I was trying to hit balls so I could accomplish what I was trying to accomplish and as I was getting better at making this change I started just gradually speeding up and speeding my Pivot up and I got to the point where I sped up one more time and I never could hit the ball solid again I just I was never solid contact it was never in the middle the ball flight wasn’t the same so therefore that was too fast for me so I had to back back down and find my speed that allowed me to stand in here and hit shots where I have back bance and I have rhythm and allow me to hit them solid then what you do is once you found that speed you then say okay now how far is my club going I’m sorry how far is my ball going so I would just have to stand here whether using a launch monitor or a rangefinder or if I was in an open field somewhere hitting them and stepping it off and finding out how far I hit that golf ball but I’ve just got stand in here and keep making that swing and figure out how far that golf ball goes then I know that my seven iron goes 155 yards or 160 yards or 165 yards whatever that number is so if you want to know how far you should hit your irons go to the driving range figure out the swing that you need to be making that hits the ball more in the middle of the club face figure out the speed that you can go so you can repeat that consistency of golf shot over and over and over again and then get some type of measuring device and figure out how far that ball goes I want y’all to remember this this number that’s on the bottom of the golf club doesn’t mean anything all it’s there is to let you know what club you’re grabbing there is no book anywhere that says well this is a seven iron winds blowing I just caught that camera there is no book that says well this seven iron should go this far the number is on there just so you know what club it is go make your swing at your speed figure out how far that golf ball goes and stick with it and if your seven iron doesn’t go quite as far as you think it should go grab a six iron because that’s why we have 14 clubs in our bag because they all go a different distance learn to hit this ball solid learn to hit it consistently in the middle of the club face and you’re going to score better and when you do that you’re going to be able to judge and choose clubs more properly because they the distances are going to be so close to the same well thank you so much for coming into this video I really appreciate it um if you think this has helped you out do
