extracurricular accomplishments tonight I would like to speak to four reasons that I believe that I believe are worth celebrating first of all celebrate that You’ have experienced this journey together I counted 21 of you grads who went to kindergarten together you’ve gone from training wheels to car keys together you started with letter sounds Sur survived Shakespeare and enjoyed elbra together and I believe that is worth celebrating celebrate with your parents grandparents the school staff and friends always know that you have a strong support system with people who deeply care about you take the time to celebrate with them this weekend also I want to recognize you for providing a support system to others personally I wish to thank you for supporting me you were Robin’s first class here here at JCC Robin had a few reservations regarding transferring to our school but in her first year here you provided her with the support she needed to feel successful and welcome and I will be ever I will forever be grateful for your kindness celebrate the many accomp accomplishments you have experienced as a group you have excelled in sport football volleyball archery basketball claming to name a few you’ve excelled in the arts dance music theater many of you are a strong artist and you have excelled in for AG showing your animals and in public speaking I believe these accomplishments need to be celebrated and finally celebrate the fact that we are right here right now on this stage recognizing and honoring you losing Matthew last summer was devastating but despite the emotions you felt you came you completed and you are here now with great Futures ahead and I believe that is worth celebrating you chose compassion you chose patience you chose respect and I believe that is worth celebrating I would like now to I would now like to share a quotee from AA mil who is best known for introducing us to our favorite bear we need the Pooh he writes you are [Applause] got a great bunch of looking grads here and a great crowd I want to start by saying how much of an honor it is to be asked to speak to our graduates to this wonderful community and on behalf of our Prairie Land Board of Trustees each year at this time we gather to celebrate the great accomplishment of our graduates and this year is no exception I stand in front of the graduates today to speak about the future and the choice that is in front of you now it is true you have seen many challenges over the years but your future starts today and we can’t change the past all we can do is learn from it and move forward as you leave this part of your life you’ll be faced with a decision a decision on which path to take that aligns you with your dreams and aspirations in your life it is a decision not to be taken lightly but definitely a decision to be excited about like they say if you love what you are doing you’ll never work a day in your life a few things to remember while making your decisions number one be a citizen strive to contribute to your community and the well-being of others number two take the time to listen some of the greatest knowledge is learned just by saying nothing at all even today as we sit among so many community members there’s a wealth of knowledge here we just have to take the time to listen number three be good eat well think positive and take that trip you always wanted to even if it takes you halfway around the world never be scared to take this step big decisions require big steps number four allow your decision to create something that everybody wants to be a part of the greatest leaders in history started with a decision just like yours and an idea that would draw people in that want to be part of it become that next great leader number five decide what kind of leader you want to be one of the greatest skills learned in in a Royal Community is ability to carry heavy responsibility at a young age like taking care and looking after the well-being of animals driving a tractor or a car at the age of eight babysitting in your younger siblings or even holding the flashlight for your dad just kidding that one’s a challenge in itself and a life life Learning lesson and colorful language as you take take this step you’ll be faced with many different paths choose this one that puts you in the spot to be a role model and a Visionary you are the Next Generation to enter the workforce and part of that responsibility is teaching the generation after you your sense of Pride and Leadership that you’ve learned over the years at JCC I truly believe your generation will be the ones that are going to steer this world back in the right direction lastly always remember what you have seen in life so far is just a tiny step in such a short time on your journey to accomplishing your dreams so don’t be too hard on yourself live in the moment and learn from it come out the next day more confident and stronger with these few steps in mind you’ll be set to become the best Virgin of yourself and be ready to Take On the World with that I would like to congratulate say congratulations to the JCC graduates of 2024 from myself and your prayer land Board of Trustees on this great accomplishment and good luck to whatever path you choose to take next thank [Applause] you thank you Mr mcferson for making the journey all the way from Youngstown tonight to share your words of wisdom and to congratulate us for years we have always known who we would want to speak about our class as a whole on this very special evening it was a no-brainer that we would shoes the teacher she has been with us through the thick and thin through the past 5 years and even tolerated us through our Moody teenage stage we now would like to introduce our honored guest speaker for this evening the one and only Mrs Lindsay Hine [Applause] good evening thank you to the graduating class for asking me to speak this evening I’ve told them how nervous I am and that even though I’m a teacher public speaking is terrifying to me I’ve also warned them I’m not funny but they assured me that it would be okay so here it goes if you are unfamiliar with me my name is Lindsay Hine I’m a former teacher of this group and fellow grad of JCC I became a teacher after a career change in my 20s and have since been a part of the Prairie Land School Division it all started several years ago as a new grad I moved back to Hannah to sub for the 2013 2014 school year hoping to gain some experience confidence and figured out what grade I’d be best suited for so I said yes when a call came from the Hannah Primary School subbing for grade two the grade twos happen to be this group that are graduating tonight at the time I thought maybe I’d be good with younger kids I showed up nervous excited wanting to be as good of a teacher as I knew how to be I introduced myself and got us underway according to the sub plan to-do list but after a little while we started to fall off the rails too many questions no one listening everyone had a different activity they wanted to do we were falling behind the 15-minute time allotment for that planned activity on my to-do list and then in walks the deputy Superintendent at the time Mr mck to observe and see how it was going I think my heart was near exploding my nervousness was at the point of being unrecoverable and I was just walking up and down the aisles of desks sorting out who needs what and where and when and why and how and trying to remember to breathe until I walked by Jasper’s desk he threw up a hand and said high five I high-fived him and the next two students put up their hands for a high five and so on everyone became involved started to listen a little bit more and I think I took the first deep breath that day we started over eventually Mr mck left we talked about math made it through the sublist activity and the rest was a blur of nervousness and exhaustion I’m not sure one thing went well that day I can say that there definitely were a few that made those lasting memories for me I could feel my confidence plummet and I was now unsure of all the things I thought I knew by the time the bell went for that day I packed up my bag and thought I am not cut out for elementary school so that day I became a junior high high school teacher m Math and Science were my comfort zones and I never looked back so thanks to you guys for the lesson that day fast forward a few years later and the next time we met was this same when this same group entered grade seven science with me followed by grade8 science our project-based learning class of cheerleading then math 9 bio2 and bio3 in 2018 I had just transferred to JC Sherk from another school and was excited about teaching Junior High science at the beginning of the year you’re given a class list so you can become familiar with the students and so I looked at the grade seven class lists all those nervous anxious feelings from our last meeting together came back it was this group again that grade two class now in grade seven I went down the list looking at names remembering those few who gave me those lasting memories popped right out of the page but on that first first day of Junior High you all came into my room this time you were older wiser Junior highs right all I can say is from that day on it was an absolute pleasure to learn and grow with each of you we bonded over our Rock collections which are still very cool Julia and Emma completed their first of two books Iggy’s Journey about Ignus rocks followed by their second book the cell cycle over time the walls became covered in their work like Michaela and tenley’s hat design showing photosynthesis and cellular respiration Jackson’s mathematically scaled down company logo that was completed in math the coral reef display that still draws the attention of elementary students that walk by my room Georgie Amelia and Brook’s Money Tree Project they named Bean Grace and Taylor’s hand painted ecosystem diarama complete with all the animal figures Elijah and aby’s mitosis meiosis Comics Olivia and Brooks cookie and cake projects Jessa and Carson’s huge body system diagram and so much more all the evidence of all your work that Still Remains a piece of our classroom up on the walls I don’t know if you remember but you went through a junior high phase of meticulously folding brightly colored sticky notes into darts and throwing them into the ceiling of our classroom at any opportune moment I turn around to write something on the board and almost immediately hear the thud of a dart hitting the SE getting stuck in the classroom ceiling every single time I fought it for a brief time but then we made an agreement you could throw the darts into the ceiling so long as we set up a grid system that was color coordinated and had a pattern to it we all agreed the whole thing added color to the classroom was quite cheerful you made the argument that it was actually related to math and science and so we went with this unique decoration once that phase was over it didn’t resurface thankfully this group was also excellent at stalling from doing work they figured out that an engaging conversation with me would delay doing work it might cut into presentation time or it would at the very least stall me from assigning the next task forcing me to extend due dates there were a few ring leaders in this but I also did not ever hear or witness anyone’s stopping the stalling from happening I can say however that these moments were some of my most favorite you are all pretty interesting and wherever our conversations LED none of it was wasted time in grade 11 the bioc class took a rafting trip down the boat River in Calgary along with a tour of the wastewater treatment plant no one was injured no one fell out of the raft or touched anything we weren’t supposed to at the treatment plant and by the end we were told that JC sherik had the nicest most respectful group of St students they have dealt with I’d have to agree through all the years conversations assignments field trips Google meets there are certain things that stand out so I thought I’d share something about each of you in alphabetical order of course Lane if there was a sportsmanlike award but for the classroom I would give this to you always kind and hardworking Olivia always working hard and now in instead of seeing you in the hallways as a student next perhaps I’ll see you in the hallways as a colleague also being in a small town There’s bound to be family crossover so I do remember you twirling on the dance floor at my wedding and now seeing you beautiful in your dress tonight is a full circle moment for me Elizabeth you carry such kindness with you and I’m so appreciative of your willingness to work at all the things that were asked of you Amelia thoughtful always asking how it’s going my son was born just before Christmas one year and you made him a Christmas painting that I still have in his room Georgie loves animals horses Ducks spiders all of them she even brought in her genetics paperwork for her horses so we could study them in bio class Julia an immense array of skills and talents from Sports to Stage Hannah and an amazing intelligence also a favorite babysitter for my niece and nephew Taylor C your com confidence has always been a key part of your presence in the classroom not everyone has that quality so it is special for you a always fashionable and in tune with your own style Michaela D I always appreciate how cheerful you are when I see you especially when you would pop in in the room to in my room to say hi in the morning Luke although I didn’t see you too regularly in BIO you worked incredibly hard when you were here and your kindness is always evident Brooke I’d have to say Brooke has always been the captain throughout the years always working hard taking the lead and leading by example Riley I remember the day you came into school so excited to share that you got accepted into school next year your joy was contagious that day Anthony quiet and reserved always kind and worked hard at whatever was asked of you Michaela H you have always been friendly and chatty always so willing to try your hardest on any project s and assignments that were given we all appreciated that Elijah I’ve enjoyed our conversations over the years and I love how artistic you are as I have your comics and drawings all over the wall right beside my desk I also want to congratulate you as a 20124 JC sherik valedictorian I feel we both have nerves about our speeches tonight Matthew as students come into junior high the elementary teachers let us know a bit about their personalities their strengths areas to look out for so when Matthew was coming into grade seven his previous teachers let me know his parents were kind always there to help in any way and worked very hard with him at home music to a teacher’s years as our fun Junior High science turned into grade n math covid and online learning I think everyone’s enthusiasm went down a bit for being in my class but we got through it with all that co could throw at us during online learning Matthew is very punctual logging to our Google meets right on time and having his camera on at the exact angle to see him crawl back into bed for the class although I’m sure the learning was still happening there there were also times when a few in this group including Matthew needed that sunglasses indoors look during our Google meets a Telltale sign of those really engaging in-depth learning moments as Junior High leaves and high school comes confident and feeling what your places in the school can change but Matthew was confident he was confident in the hallways knowing who he was smiling in the hall smiling as he was doing his work being every bit exactly him Abby I have appreciated that you have always known initiative and a willingness shown initiative and a willingness to step in and help others wherever there was need with both staff and classmates thank you for this over the years Jackson although math wasn’t your favorite place to be you talked so passionately about farming and tapping into your artistic side was when I saw some of your best work Carson you are so kind and were always voted the token reader when we had to read aloud during class this must mean that you are great to listen to Jaden although I never had the opportunity to have you in my class your teachers have said you are quiet natured which I can relate to so willing to help and work hard on all that was asked of you in class Kiara you have always been sure of your goals and the path you want to be on keep working hard to get all that you are after Taylor M as mentioned before there were some regulars that were good at sparking and extending class conversations inevitably delaying assignments and due dates I would say Taylor was excellent at this but I did appreciate it most times as some of our best moments were in those chats Austin you are so proud of your family and would share pictures and updates with me always with joy on your face you also made my son’s day on repeated occasions by bringing in your petrified wood and rock finds showing him in the morning before school starts Jasper always showing kindness one day he said he had a goal to learn to solve a Rubik’s Cube so he borrowed mine for the weekend and brought it back solved Camila Mrs Stevenson notes that light up any room you enter are feisty bubbly and soul full of life Jessa you are always so hard on yourself every time I would ask how is the exam or how is the project coming along you would always say horrible and then you would hand in some amazingly beautiful and scientifically accurate work of art or rock and exam Cadence out of everyone I’ve ever taught you have by far the neest and most pristinely highlighted notes assignments and exams that I have ever seen they are always works of art Jennifer it was always a pleasure to chat at lunch as you and your friend group came into my room cheerful and chatty Avery I’d have to give Avery the title of class spokesperson for always speaking up being honest always being sincerely interested in how others are doing staff included Grace I have loved our conversations over the years and look forward to all the great things our next fish and wildlife officer will be up to I also o have a picture in my mind of you as Olivia’s dance partner all those years ago at my wedding Ally I had known Ally from my time in Youngstown before her coming to JCC and so it was so nice to see her again as she went from a Youngstown Falcon to a Hanah Hawk Emma a girl of quiet confidence and many talents that are showcased everywhere from the Dance Floor to the golf course and everything in between Aryan such a hard worker always looking to improve kind and so caring for her friends tenly it’s a fact that you are much better on stage public speaking than me and probably all of us here such a rare talent to have commanding a stage Joffrey big Oilers win last night jof in math and grade nine we worked on a symmetry quilt project and Joff worked so hard on designing the perfect work of art showing all the different ways you could rotate flip reflect the oiler symbol he he even added additional features such as a Pac-Man figure figure eating a flame Joff is kindness wrapped up in a human you always ask me how I am and are such a bright light in the hallways as you go off into your next adventure I know I am speaking on behalf of everyone when I say we sure will miss your light here but boy are we excited to see you you shine I also wanted to take a moment and mention all those that were and are involved in the great things outside of the classroom this year the JC sherik six-man football team made it to the provincial final game three years in a row becoming provincial Champions this past season in their grade 12 year congratulations to Joff and captains Taylor and Austin the basketball players Olivia Grace Tenley as well as Taylor poster in essay winners Kiara winning third for her senior poster in black and white Riley second for her senior poster in color Luke first for his senior poem Caron first for his senior essay accomplishments are wide and ranging are different for everyone and showcase the drive and commitment that you have to achieve your goals so thank you for sharing the other sides of you that we don’t always see in the classroom and for all those goals that you held close to your heart and either celebrated privately or are still reaching toward words we celebrate with you and are always cheering you on being a teacher and all it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t have a last lesson planned for you tonight so here are my last five reminders and lessons for you number five fractions really are friends they are not our enemies they do not wish harm on us number four if you come across a stranded earthworm on the sidewalk gently assist them back to a nice patch of grass or soil I do remember Abby and Michaela being in agreement with me on this in BIO number three convers ations are always worth it all the moments that we sidestepped from the rock cycle or pols or genetics were absolutely worth it number two your story is your power you are more than a moment a mark a comment a picture you are everything Al together all at once you never know how your truth can help others how your JC Sher graduating class of 2024 [Applause] can I just speak for everyone in my class and say that although maybe you aren’t a public speaker that was amazing Mrs Hine and we have loved every moment you’ve taught us so thank you so much for all the kind words and the fun stories and everything that you’ve done for us so with that being said it takes a very patient group of parents to have helped us grow into the mature young adults we are today Lord knows that this grad class is special in a couple of different and may have caused a couple gray hairs along the way we would now like to introduce graduates Carson kerus and Abby kot to give the salute to the parents [Applause] we’d like to start off by thanking all of the people here tonight who have helped us to achieve this huge milestone in our lives most importantly our parents and Guardians not so long ago we were brought into this world so vulnerable unknowing of what the future holds but you were there to support us help us and most importantly love us you watched us grow into the people that we are today but we also watched you grow up as we were learning to walk you were adapting to the responsibilities of Parenthood we are eternally grateful for the sacrifices that you have made for us and our love for you will always reflect this thank you for being so hard on us always being on our case and keeping us safe and happy even though we might not realize it at the time it is clear now that your tough love was just a reflection of how much you care for us you’ve always been there for us guiding us looking out for us from the late night study sessions driving us home from sports games making us to come to the building and we didn’t want to be here right Jackson and the endless words of encouragement and teaching you’ve always been there for us your belief in your kids abilities and your unwavering love has been one of our biggest motivators remember all those times when we felt like giving up it was your voices in our head telling us to keep pushing forward and reminding reming us of our potential you never let us settle for anything less than our best and for that we are forever grateful through the ups and downs the successes and setbacks you’ve been our constant support you’ve celebrated every small victory and offered a shoulder to lean on during tough times your faith has never wavered even when we doubt ourselves we want us we want you to know that every Milestone we’ve achieved is a reflection of your guidance and sacrifices the countless hours you spend helping us with homework making us lunches attending parent teacher conferences and cheering us on from the sidelines has shaped Us in the people we are today you’ve taught us the value of hard work perseverance and the importance of never giving up on our dreams today we sit on this stage ready to embark on the next chapter of our lives and we’re filled with the gratitude for the foundation that you’ve provided us your constant support has given us the confidence to chase our aspirations we promise to carry the lessons you’ve taught us and the values you’ve instilled in us as we navigate our future your unwavering belief in your children has shaped them into the people they are today and we are all eternally grateful so here’s to you moms dads and all our beloved Guardians our biggest cheerleaders Rock Solid support team and sources of inspiration thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do we all love you more than words can express [Applause] thank you Carson and Abby for those delightful words now if you guys thought that we were a handful at home you should see us at school to the poor teachers who had to put up with us and our Shenanigans from getting class campouts banned to vandalizing private property don’t worry nothing too damaging AKA Lane Matthew and Taylor accidentally throwing snowballs at cars now we’re going to have to hand the mic over to graduates Emma danger and Lane Andrew to give the long overdue salute to our hardworking teachers good evening and welcome my name is Emma Stanger and mine is Lane Andress and we would like to share our grad class the salute to the teachers first off we want to say thank you to the teachers for putting up with us over the years you guys have had to deal with a lot these past 12 years and we’d like to thank you for letting so much of the stuff slide we learned a lot of things that we definitely didn’t process and forgot about the second we walked into a class but thank you teachers for still trying we would get off topic easily and spend half the classes talking about something completely inre irrelevant but thankfully our wonderful teachers led us you’ve taught us so many important things that we will remember and use for the rest of our lives none of us would be where we are if we didn’t have our amazing teachers believing in us and pushing us to always do better before we get carried away we would with our high school teachers we would like to say a big thank you to our elementary teachers you taught us how to read and write and tie shoes as well as fundamental things we use for the rest of our lives without our elementary teachers we wouldn’t be where we are today we’d also like to say a thank you to our Junior High teachers these teachers put up with a lot when we were in our fresh teen years and we’re most immature our Junior High teachers got us through some of the most difficult times in our school years and we’re always there to listen to our drama Mrs Nigel is probably best known for her decisive way of te which we all appreciate she has prepared us for all our future writing Endeavors and taught us all very valuable skills Mrs Nigel was always trying to make school more entertaining and fun for us grade 12 students she had Easter egg hunts and trivia contest to keep us entertained Mrs Nigel also kept us very engaged with her spectacular dance moves yikes Miss Lee you deserve the award for the most persistent and trying teacher you tried so hard to persuade some of us to like math and find a way that it might be useful for us but for me personally you didn’t convince me she always seemed to get all the gossip and tell us what her opinion was on something to say the least math class was never boring Mr whip Mr Wales is the teacher who if you had a question regarding math or science he almost always knew the answer to Mr Wales was always trying to get us to learn new things whether it was a new complicated word or just some random facts he made sure we were all prepared for anything we’d come across and with all the science experiments we did I’m definitely surprised one of us didn’t blow up it’s always easy to be walking down the hallway and get carried away talking to him about your day and end up 5 minutes late to class Miss B Meister is a very easy and goinging person and really easy to start a conversation with even though most of the conversations weren’t based on what we had to learn in class Miss Bergen Meister is one of the easiest teachers to get off topic but we we appreciated all of our talks we second to appreciate that we all had major glow-ups and just kept getting cuter as the years went on our hard work paid off and I guess you can say it say it’s official we did it please welcome the president of Treasury board and Minister of Finance The Honorable Nate Herer and the for the MLA for the Drumheller ster [Applause] area thank you uh I was just uh sitting in the corner here thinking that some of the the comments from some of the other speakers about public speaking being their biggest fear here I can honestly say mine is being asked to run the projector for graduation I I was feeling for you Cheryl there but did excellent it is my pleasure to be here with you this evening to celebrate the JC Cher School class of 2024 and I was thinking on the drive to Hannah um I graduated in 1998 uh from the cesford school uh also in this school division obviously L and uh I know Shirley mclen was at my grad and I I can’t remember what she said but I’m I’m sure it was wonderful but um it it does it did make me think about uh this role and these wonderful young people here that are about to take the next step and you you probably don’t realize this uh and maybe why it’s it’s important uh but every conversation that we have in EB is really about you you know it’s it’s not just the the K to2 system that you’re just about to leave or the uh the postsecondary institution that you you may attend or making sure that those classes align with a a job and a career at the back end uh where you can have you know um increasing wages and and raise your own family but ensuring that that you know we bring investment and have an economy that can continue to support us all so that’s that’s really what it’s about and you’re the Next Generation I think we all hope that uh we can hand it over to you in at least as good a shape as we found it because we know that you will be uh better and brighter than us and and better better leaders no doubt uh so I’m expecting that but uh to to the graduates today you graduate high school uh and it’s a good thing because your local communities uh and your province will need you soon you’ll own your own businesses uh maybe provide Critical Care in our health care System uh produce food for a growing world or educate the Next Generation uh and maybe some of you will be crazy enough uh to run for office that one may not be advisable but if you’re thinking about it call me I wish you nothing but the best as you decide what comes next and if you don’t know yet that’s fine too fake it till you make it even us adults are still figuring it out taking the next step can seem very daunting but if you take one thing from these comments know this you don’t have to be the smartest or most experienced person in the room you’ve likely heard it many times before but it is true if you work hard if you give it all you got and if you treat people well you will be surprised how far you’ll get and making mistakes and having missteps is all part of it so have fun today celebrate with your classmates and don’t forget to take some time to thank your parents or Guardians teachers and friends that help get you here and one more small thing you may not realize this yet uh but you come from one of the very best parts of the world and you will appreciate the the community that you came from the way you were educated in this school and uh if you do appreciate it now that’s great um wear it like a badge and be proud of it cuz uh we’re all very proud of you so congratulations class of 2024 you’ve worked hard to get here enjoy it thank you so much for having [Applause] me thanks Mr Herer for your words of wisdom we appreciate you speaking tonight each year the valid Victorian gets to pick someone special from their lives to introduce them this year they chose an individual who he believes has been the most significant role model in his high school career this individual takes time to ensure that each student feels heard and understands each and every concept she’s a teacher who is very easy to talk to genuinely cares about others and makes class entertaining with all of her jokes please let’s welcome Miss Brandy Lee to introduce our deserving [Applause] valedictorian good evening everyone my name is Miss Lee and it’s my pleasure today to say a few words about this year’s valedictorian Elijah Jameson I’ve taught him since grade 10 and he’s always been a diligent student quiet and reserved D curious and eager to learn these are typical qualities of a class valedictorian but Elijah is far from typical yeah like he’s a good student and all that but he’s also quirky and he’s a talented artist and has a dark sense of humor he works hard um he pardon me he works hard and he takes his academics seriously but he never takes himself too seriously he Delights in a good math and science pun um and he never misses the opportunity to point out the irony in a situation in addition to his academic successes Elijah has been a leader within his faith community he regularly volunteers with his church and participates in youth activities through his church Community he has the courage of his convictions and I believe that his faith has played a large part in shaping him as a person these roots in faith and Community leadership are what will keep him humble grounded and compassionate Elijah aspires to become a funeral director and mortician which if you know him at all makes a lot of sense actually um it aligns perfectly with his morbid Curiosities but also with his pensent as a Helper and a Healer Elijah’s star shines bright even amidst a clas full of bright shining stars he is intelligent sensible and determined I have no doubt that he will continue to impress both academically and in his in his leadership within his community as he pursues his dreams he’s a very special student For Whom the valedictorian honor is well deserved so without further Ado I’ll give Elijah the [Applause] floor never have I hated being smart fellow graduates the time has come and the most socially awkward among you has to give the speech of course if something bad will happen it will I’m thankful though because over the past few years our teachers have prepared us for this in social class we learned to give presentations and talk in front of people in science Mr Wales taught us to research and find evidence for ourselves in English Miss Mrs Nigel taught us to write compelling arguments and formally too in Math Miss Lee taught us that you close the door so you boss doesn’t hear you gossiping instead of doing class all this know not only helps us to pass our final exams they will also help us to prepare ourselves as young adults when I was told I was validi Toran I was majorly uncomfortable I have trouble accepting praise and being told I was the smartest one in the class after being one of the most average for maybe four years earlier it felt like I wasn’t the one being addressed I struggled all the way through Elementary homework was a burden to 9-year-old me and math was especially difficult I remember oh sorry math was especially difficult I remember now in 2024 I excel at math learning how to add in binary just because this transition came about by the great environment and people I grew up around my church The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has always been supportive and influential about how I think things through and where I look for answers my family peers and teachers help me develop my identi identity as a brother son student and friend doctors help me to understand my ADHD which is one of the reasons I still can’t believe I’m actually up here right now however I think the most important thing that we have learned through these years is the importance of being there for someone else I’d like to take a moment of your time to speak about what my fellow graduates and I have learned here at JCC the people we should thank and the people we should remember I told you that the most important thing that we have learned was being there for someone else let me give you some examples of what I’m talking about I remember seeing Elizabeth Beck giving little bits and Bobs to people in the hallways on so many occasions Julia Kavanaugh and bro gster were members of leadership planning our Halloweens Christmases and other school activities they planned alongside other classmates and teachers thinking about the W best way to involve everybody if you’re from Hannah you know that when there’s something strange in the neighborhood you’re going to call Carson kbus because he’s worked in almost every establishment in town getting all the gossip I joined the student student wellness action team with Jess Rez and Jennifer Rivera where we took a community helpers course just a reminder these are only a fraction of the many ways people in Hannah and JCC support each other next I’d like to thank the people who helped us arrive at this point on behalf of my fellow fellow graduates and I I’d first like to thank our parents and Guardians who had the most influence in helping us become the people we are today I would like to thank Mr AUST for teaching us about random things but somehow working every off-topic conversation into whatever we were doing in class that day I’m personally thankful to the staff in the school who are always there for children who are struggling I’d also like to thank Mrs olssen for teaching us to be Bucket Fillers rather than bucket dippers when I look at my fellow graduates I believe it’s plain to see that most of us have turned out that way next I’d like to remember Matthew Kemp a classmate who passed away recently the first memory I have of Matthew is getting him in trouble in elementary I told him to search up something ridiculously childish on Google and without a second thought he did it he always cared about others doing kind things for them and doing it swiftly sometimes instead of his homework I’d like to think that he’s looking down at us right now and cheering us on As We Gather here as grad class of 2024 we are all high school graduates now tears will be shed we will soon go our separate ways always having The Memories We will remember each other by a contac in our phones our name on each other’s hoodies or a cringey diary entry about a secret childhood Crush we did this together and we will never forget what a bunch of energetic little little kids can become in just 18 years as a final thought I would like to share a few simple words be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people thank you for being here thank you for doing your best and thank you all for [Applause] listening well I think we can all agree that Elijah should switch career paths and become a comedian congratulations Elijah your hard work and dedic and dedicated time to your studies has truly paid off next up we would like to introduce Michaela Hutton to present the Scott mole award this award represents someone who radiant kindness and integrity someone who goes out of their way to brighten others days we believe this decision was a no-brainer and nobody else in our class would have deserved this more so without further Ado take it away Michaela [Applause] the Scott Mo Memorial award was first presented in 1979 by his classmates they wanted to present the award to a fellow graduate based on their friendliness and conunity the way the way they remembered Scott’s personality kind and caring Scott was born on July 9th 1961 to Richard and Jordie Mo he had two siblings Jeff and wona when the mo family talked about Scott they talked about how he was always happy and had a smile on his face and even when he was sick and in the hospital suffering with severe asthma he never complained he’ faced adversity every day life was hard for him he learned how to keep striving forward love what life handed you and show kindness and friendship to everyone around him as an asthmatic Scott was not able to partake in any physical sports but as a family he loved to go camping in the mountains snow Ming at Fox Lake and just spending time together Scott passed away on June 20 1974 at the age of 12 and is still today sadly missed by all this year’s recipient is welld deserved being this award they’re always kind to everyone around them they’ve never failed to put a smile on everyone’s face they always ask how your day is and how you’re doing no matter what kind of day you’re having this person will make it brighter this person is very athletic and loves every sport especially hockey this year’s recipient is Joffrey wood [Applause] you [Applause] very thank you to the grad of 2024 for this award this means a lot to me thank [Applause] you congratulations Joffrey Joffrey is such a kind soul and everybody who knows him would agree how deserving he is of this this award he wears his heart on his sleeve and has such a contagious smile he didn’t just make a difference in our class he made a difference in our entire School congratulations again Joffrey here’s a thumbs up at this time we would like to thank Brook gster our grad president who had to n who had to navigate everybody’s very vocal and conflicting opinions he Lane this would be the time to apologize to Brooke for all your unnecessary comments along
