if I swing through a pitching wedge like I would swing through a six iron and beyond that doesn’t have that same stable Club face with the same interaction with the turf making sure your setup making sure your setup is actually telling you how far the shot is that you’re trying to hit it looks like you’re throwing a medicine ball with your core and not just slinging a ball with your arms right this is shoulder high right here right so if I were to keep it right here just yeah exactly approach shots into the green were not as tight as they typically have been okay especially with shorter irons inside 150 okay so here’s the thing we were swinging wedges yesterday like we’d swing a seven iron and what I mean by that is you know every Sand Wedge gap wedge pitching wedge nine iron from the Fairway needs to have that knockdown mentality so yesterday what I was noticing was you had a wedge from 130 yeah the first wedge looked like this and the ball went 20 ft long and 10 ft left of the hole the next one looked like this just shorter tighter more of a knockdown feeling ball went 2 feet from the hole okay so with one had this trajectory one had that trajectory yeah now we hit our lower irons high enough as it is so a lower ball flight with those is actually nice and highly sought after for a better player so my big thing is this it goes back to hitting more knockdown shots with shorter clubs what that does engages you more through impact stabilizes the club face more so here’s a pitching wedge right here here’s a little shoulder High chest High knockdown okay and as you see the the ball’s plenty high but it’s controlled and the contacts good and I’m going to hit that number more often than not with the yardage it’s going to hit that yardage more consistently if I swing through a pitching wedge like I would swing through a six iron and beyond that doesn’t have that same stable Club face with the same interaction with the turf that I would have in that swing right there that swing if you looked at the length of that golf swing with the arms and hands we would have all seen that as pretty full yeah it felt to you it felt just under shoulder and but how many players can relate to you right now who are thinking yeah that’s what happens to me I I feel like I’m taking it back to here and I take a video and it’s up here two reasons remember we talked about this by the time it takes you know our our mind to send the message to our hands to stop what happens it still goes so when you’re trying to stop at shoulder High stop at chest High when you’re trying to stop at chest High stop at like top of your stomach high right does that make sense here we are at the beautiful Grand delmare Golf Club in San Diego California 8 hours per day 16 total hours 4 hours in the morning non-stop golf a little lunch break we go out to the golf course play nine holes with them here I am working alongside one of the best coaches in the country my business partner and best friend Mike pit Great Golf instruction a lot of fun a full day Clinic Southern California weather let’s go you guys you guys can expect the world from us there is nobody that comes to our clinics and nobody that ever leaves my life lesson te that does not get bad I take it personal and here’s the thing if that’s the case at 5:00 today we’ll be out here till 8: now the only thing too guys a little sneaky sneaky sneaky part there’s two things when hitting short wedges that can control your arm swing two very sneaky things that aren’t talked about too much making sure your setup making sure your setup is actually telling you how far the shot is that you’re trying to hit this is a person who’s not going to control their swing I’m hitting at 30 yards and I’m set up like I’m going to hit at 120 I see it all the time I see this around the green too from people you know they’re hitting a little chip to right there and they they look like this it’s like no no you you you should be here right so if I’m hitting a 30 yard shot I mean look at my feet are like this they’re very very much together and I can I then know how little that golf swing needs to be based upon how little my setup is the next thing there’s lower body action that can help reduce the amount of arm swing as well if I alleviate all the ground pressure by straightening my legs and straightening them even more in my in my back swing that’s something that doesn’t build the necessary tension that would actually shorten my swing so flexing the knees hips over ankles shoulders past the toes right actually feeling my knees flexed down into the balls of my feet keeping this right knee flexed turning from the pocket and the shoulder and keeping that knee flexed that right there actually controls the amount of arm swing so two things when you watch me hit this little 30 yard shot well setup have the setup remind you of how small that shot actually is okay next thing flex your knees don’t flex sitting back Flex straight down like you’re putting pressure into the balls of your feet keep that right knee flexed throughout the swing and that will actually control the amount of arm swing watch this I get right here and all of a sudden I straighten this out and alleviate that pressure in the ground well then this gets loose and I and I almost like deactivates my core okay this right here allows me to feel that necessary tension from the ground up that keeps my arms connected to my body’s turn all right you guys just ask Luna she knows she’s very connected to the ground very connected to the ground yes I mean can we all agree that those last like four three four shots have been absolutely perfect they’ve all landed in the same spot they’ve all had the same exact trajectory and look at this this is just you you feeling more of a shoulder High swing it gets a little B shoulder high but look at this much more connected look at that right on the way on the way down perfect path look at the face through impact guys let’s zoom into that look how the face is still matching his spine angle there’s zero flip to that well if that’s him feeling shoulder High imagine what normal felt like that’s why everything is getting a little bit longer right and if it gets longer at the top it’s going to be a little looser at the bottom long leads to loose which then can lead to left or it’s behind you and leads to right if you don’t Square the face up so it looks like you’re throwing a medicine ball with your core and not just slinging a ball with your arms right when you’re shortening your swing way that you can make the swing feel longer even though it ends up being shorter is by taking three times the amount of time you normally would to get the club back there if you kind of feel like it you let it develop well your mind believes okay that actually was you know but if you’re quick and short it’s like no you can’t feel anything can’t feel anything exactly buddy you got this all day with that bud so let’s stop stop one at chest high now so it’s going to have to feel slow and it’s basically going to feel like it stops at your stomach exactly so literally try to stop it at your stomach and we’ll see where this one finishes you see how that stopped just below the shoulders there guys but look at how perfect that ball flight is didn’t lose one yard on that from where your full one was and all the ball flight did was do this come down and stay straighter exactly if I was holding this right here go ahead and set up like this is this is shoulder high right here right so if I were to keep it right here just do a little shorty right here and I’ll let it go on the way through yeah exactly so you just need to sometimes we went through our yardages last week our our 30s through our our 100 and we were really you know hitting our spots relative to our body right pocket High belt High belly button sternum chest like rungs on a ladder um sometimes I think it’s really important you know just just just go ahead it’s like we were hitting a chest you know just holding this here to Define that to not let you actually pass it right yeah yeah beautiful beautiful beautiful so good buddy you know um if I had 100 people on this driving range and I told them all to stop right at you know where their zipper is like right at their sternum 99 would pass that like 99 and the only reason I say one wouldn’t there’s always the one guy who has the abnormally short swing you know who just like really doesn’t get it back there but like on the whole yeah as as as my good buddy Mark’s over here and he’s like you’re talking about me gosh yeah that’s him that’s that guy um but but um no the majority of them wouldn’t they they they’d be extra at the top uh knowing that I I think a big lesson today how do you shorten your swing appropriately reduce your arm speed and hand speed in the back swing find the Rhythm that allows you to repeat it and technically speaking it’s your body’s turn that moves your hands to the top so shouldn’t your hands be moving at the pace of your body’s turn if that’s the case yeah absolutely so whatever Pace this lead shoulder is moving should be the pace my hands are going W watch my my rehearsal compared to my actual swing okay so my rehearsal would be one 2 okay that was the exact same speed right there going back as I as I did in my rehearsal so it was very realistic realistic rehearsals are just incredibly important okay let’s really stop under the shoulders here I feel like it’s like chest High see I like telling him that because all you know you and all of our viewers just saw a shoulder High golf swing there so that’s going to that’s going to be good for you to remember and it went the full distance want the full distance exactly my point and why would it do that well it’s more connected and it has a better impact position it’s not swatting through there much better dude much better this is ideal Luna weather by the way way this is like a team mascot right here Kev she comes out and just hangs out become my good buddy at poor Zack golf we take a lot of pride in having developed some of the best and most 1. Ok, it’s getting weird now. Pretty sure you’re following me and posting videos I need based on my game that day. 3x today (maybe more) made bogeys from inside 50 yards.

  2. Great stuff as always Adam! I’d love to see a video with your thoughts on clubs. I’d like your thoughts on game improvement versus other styles, wedges and putters. Love this channel!

  3. Hi Adam. Working on my backswing with my coach. Feel I’m hitting a 50 yard pitch shots and it’s going 155 with a 7 iron. With him and following your thought’s/recommendations, I feel I’m getting there! BTW…… love the fact your in the game to improve people, not just taking the lesson monies “if I can’t improve you, we’ll be here to 8 O’clock at night” How many people would do that? 💥🏌🏻

  4. Hey Adam. Absolutely love these videos. Best instruction on YouTube! Can you do a video on how to practice? Like how many concepts should you work on during a practice session? How long should you practice? If doing drills, how many times should you do the drill vs. hitting regular shots? How long does it take for a new concept to get ingrained?
