e e e e e e [Music] oh what’s what’s going on everybody Welcome to episode 132 of Flo wrestling radio live on this fine Thursday morning here in Austin Texas Flo sports headquarters to my right he’s Hungry Like the Wolf he is Duran Duran that is what would Shane spark say about that shirt JD he likes everything I do so he he he really does man yeah oh yeah square that shirt up to the camera Square it up bro wow yeah it’s it’s got a wolf on it it’s a good wolf a wolf drip to my left no drip except he actually has a cool shirt on today my shirt up to the cameraon me you’re not squaring right there you go big ston meic guy what’s up he’s one of my best friends that’s Tyler minger he likes to brag about his friends that’s one of his main I mean you brag about it yeah like don’t you brag about your friends you’re a bad friend that’s why I don’t have any friends really I knew it and then to the left left dbr representing his hometown Colorado Rockies always through thick and thin this is a die hard right here this is a powerful Global sports brand that was funny okay man what a weekend we have a uh before us we’re going to get into plenty of u20s U23 stuff we got some other news though Panero Johnson he’s been freed last year my man Panero last year was a red shirt um and now it’s sounds like JD he’s going to be back next year for we’ll say your Cyclones that’s right like nothing ever happened baby like no nothing ever happened um well he he does have to pay the the ultimate price which is sitting out for two events that is that is correct I believe it’s the first two I have an idea Kevin dresser this is a free idea and honestly you probably already had this idea right away no no no first chance open first chance open one and then Second Chance open put those on the on the schedule and then he can miss those and then he misses nothing um so that’s my idea that’d be a good idea so but I mean not saying it’s a good thing he has to sit out but they’re going to have a log Jam in those middleweights anyways so they need people’s sizes to change people can change they say and that’s what they need to have happen here people can’t change people cannot change well that’s not good that’s not good for Iowa State because they’ve got well who knows how big Anthony etch is going to be but they’ve got him and seems like swederski at 49 you’ve got Panero Johnson Cody chittum at 57 um so four studs for two weights how are they going to make this all work and fit next year sounds like swerski maybe red shirt uh shm could shittum could or move up to 65 yep I I don’t know if he is a 65 he can like 57 well anybody can do it yeah Tyler couldn’t come on dude actually you qualified for nca’s at that weight forget about it he literally did it if Tyler can do it let that be hope for Cody chittum here’s what I would say I would say hey Anthony Tony we’ll let you wrestle off again at 149 but you might have to be a little miserable for a couple months back down at 141 you had a good season let’s improve upon That season that’s what I’m saying get Chanda back down at 41 that makes the team that makes the team really tough I think that’s what they should be trying to do I don’t know if they will do it someone got mad that we weren’t talking about Iowa State a lot and I’ll blame JD for that because you know what it’s never going to happen that Virginia Tech’s not mentioned on the show fre that’s that’s my my cause okay that’s something I’m I’m doing JD is supposed to be that he’s from ases am high aims High even though you didn’t go there uh but hey they’re team huba now basically mhm just signed uh om divers I think I hope that’s how you say it I don’t know how else you would it right if it’s Spanish might be diversant there you go okay put a little Wang on it saying is that true or you are you doing all vowels in Spanish always make the same sound it’s a a e o u so I make an e sound D verant if we’re pronouncing it the Spanish way the Spanish way all right what we’re learning see who says you can’t learn something from even Tyler yeah what do you think of this pickup I I don’t know he he’s he’s he’s got some notches in his belt some W’s from a couple years ago some notches and some he’s been notched also correct I don’t know we’ll see who the here’s the thing about Cuba um well there’s a lot of things about Cuba but the Cuban wrestling system is not what it was it’s not producing on the level we’ve seen basically they just keep throwing out the same guys that they’ve always had it’s been successful for a dresser so far so my point here is you know how much how good is the training there now compared to how it was um you know obviously the the level of athletes out of Cuba is always incredible so maybe coming to ases is gonna help him get to the next level he did beat Richie figuro in 2021 okay which I don’t know how notable that is is before Richie was a national champ but he was still like number top 10 pound-for-pound in high school at that point yeah so there’s Talent there for sure he his most recent result I think was bronze at PanAm championships which is I don’t know if anyone would call that like incredibly impressive but it’s not so yeah but notable it’s not a bad it’s not a bad pipeline to uh keep going you know taking taking a shot especially if no one else seems to be competing with them for the for Cuban recruits that’s right yeah it’s like uh I kind of thought when um gagv came to Oklahoma state from dagistan like all right now it’s going to be we’re going to see all these guys continuing to come and really no one’s really even tried it like adive is one but you feel like man come come to America and wrestle here but we haven’t seen a lot of that but I think it’s awesome when it happens I think it’s really cool is he going to go uh 125 I would assume so that’s a still kind of a wide open weight I think it it said projected at 125 133 He he’ll have a fight to get into the line lineup I mean there’s there’s a learning curve for you know folk style it took Yer a little bit it took uh chandia a little bit and you know the good thing is you would think Iowa State’s done a great job with it and they’re going to be efficient at getting them up to speed but it still it does take some time and it’s a unique feel and so but no cool cool pickup definitely be a fun storyline to follow um but yeah for for for Iowa State they are they really maybe we have been sleeping on them a little bit they do lose David Carr which that that hurts a lot that’s 20 some points right off the bat and they got fourth last year but you know if they could if chidam could go up to 57 I think that’d be 65 excuse me I think he’d be really tough there I think it’ be probably the best thing for their lineup cuz I don’t know who goes 65 for Iowa State if not him yeah I’m really not sure either and it seems like Panero is going to go 57 so he’s I don’t think I think he’s done at 49 yeah and I mean honestly that’s fine if he’s functional if he’s good at that weight and we’ll we’ll see we’ll see him I mean Panero is wrestling this weekend at 70 it’s a really tough field at 70 kilograms you got I think Arrington Ed Scott and Daniel cardinus among others there so we’ll get a really good picture of where pan panero’s at at 74 or 70 kilg which is 154 and change so I want to see it we love the Cyclones let it not be said yeah so so get off of us Colin B yeah uh well let’s talk about what else is going down this weekend uh anybody what are you most excited for this weekend whether it be one guy one weight one potential matchup what are we looking forward to u20s U23 world team trials I want to hear from David Bray he’s our he’s the the high school ranker nowhere extraordinaire what what matches or matchups weights get you most excited I mean high school wise there’s so much to be excited about but 57 kilos is probably top of the top of the list for me because um Luke LOL sitting and waiting we already know that he’s he’s senior in high school and and he’s been kind of you know not quite Untouchable this year but he’s looked great um sitting through the finals is is little at all but the the field that’s that he’s going to have to contend with whoever comes out is I think going to be you know a challenger that that can handle it Anthony Knox uh he hasn’t wrestled lll in a while but the last time they did wrestle was who’s number one back in 2021 and Knox won that match um Leo Duca is is actually not wrestling he’s injured so he won’t be there but Seth Mendoza is in the mix he just beat Jax Forest which is why he’s ahead of him in the rankings yeah Jax forest and Luke ladol have had an incredible rivalry going back uh over the last couple of years and then Kil Kiri was lad alls opponent in the finals last time at at the US Open because he was able to to you know be in full form so this this weight class super tough and and plenty of really good contenders I think the mini tournament is going to be uh mustat pretty much start to finish that’s what I’m looking forward to most I think 57 kg I didn’t know Duca wasn’t wrestling un bummed about that because I think he’s really good but yeah forest with all they’ve gone back and forth last time they wrestled was Iron Man finals right mhm yep where it’ll be different because that came down to a fle the mat call with no takedowns right two to one yep so I mean you go back to Iron Man and just to kind of like speak to the the quality of this bracket Li one of lll’s toughest matches there was Seth Mendoza and and Mendoza is a guy who’s just he’s been knocking on the door for a really long time um he beat for he teched Forest at the US Open yeah so like there there’s so many guys that you can’t count out uh I I think people are are probably most excited about either A Renewed rivalry between forest and lll or a noox lad doll Showdown which you know either one of those could be great and there are other really good guys that we didn’t even mention Nate Desmond another Penn State recruits in there good guys we’ve never seen Knox and Jax wrestle each other have we no I really want to see that that’s that’s probably the number one match for me that I’m like I hope we get this match um man just rewatch it you think about Knox is like kind of a guy with a folk style catered style but you watch him man he’s really good at freestyle and you go back think about Marcus blae since that Cadet world team trial just how his I mean Marcus was obviously super Elite then but his star has just risen since that time beats Matt Ramos Olympic trials performance on and on and on Knox was right there in both matches late takedown in match one to lose uh off a beautiful underhook throw by from from blae and then in the second match Anthony’s in on the take I me not just in on the takedown the takedown is coming it’s imminent he’s backside and then Marcus hits his sick switch and gets the two of his own and wins that one you feel like Knox is right there and could potentially and you’re referring to when they’re wrestling for a U7 team spot yeah yeah that so Knox is right there and I think we have a wager but I’m I’m more nervous about it now just re back rewatching Anthony like he’s he’s just I mean there so many these guys are going to be starred at the at the next level there’s there’s no doubt in my mind Knox L doll Blaze like we’re going to be talking about these guys for the next 5 10 years and sitting out to the finals is such an advantage here because they do the whole tournament in one day even too so it’s not just I don’t have to run through the Challenge tournament but these guys are going to have three or four really tough matches just to get to the best of three finals which are that night it’s kind of old school going back to like 2017 uh you think like they for seniors where you know Final Exit is different the you get all that time to recover from those matches now it’s not even next day you’re just thrown right into it later that night yeah it’s it’s insane hey before we get to deeper David could you maybe pull up the schedule and we can show and kind of go through like what’s the order of events for this weekend so people know when to watch of course we’re talking about the u20 U23 trials going down in Geneva Ohio JD Andrew spay and Connor Petro going to be on on the ground for us in Geneva oh yeah baby and uh it gets started tomorrow you you planned your flights perfectly James cuz you’re flying today right after this and then you’re G to be back for for Monday show so this is tremendous but what’s I can’t quite read that yeah so we can we can pull it up on the screen um Friday is is a Greco head’s dream we got we got Greco from from Sun up till sun down uh both u20 and U23 Greco are going to be popping on Friday um Saturday is going to be both u20 and U23 freestyle u20 they’re wrestling the best of three finals metal matches all that that’s 400 p.m. eastern time that’s the schedule and then Sunday uh really the only thing are is the conclusion of u23s and the reason u23s is two days and u20s is one is th u23s is like massive brackets it’s 128 man for for some of those bigger weights yeah so um this is this is awesome and wrestling fans you got to soak this one up because we don’t have final X we don’t have world team trials this is one of the last big you know elite wrestling events we have for for a little while so uh enjoy this one it’s going to be awesome Saturday’s GNA be a tight one for me we got we’re going to a dang wedding daddy daughter dance no no no Daddy daughters although there will probably will be a daddy daughter dance there because it’s like a wedding reception type of thing where that happens but not me not for you though no type of thing type thing a wedding reception type thing well it’s like okay so well if I’m I’m going to explain it then I guess I should it’s like they already got married but now it’s a celebration yeah it’s a celebration was that Co wedding no they just did a destination wedding somewhere fancy okay and um so yeah I’m I’m going to that Saturday evening so it’s like supposed to start at 6 which looks like when u20 finals are going to end so hopefully I’ll be able to watch it very uh nice and generous of them to plan their wedding reception around u20 world team trials and it was nice of them to consider that my scheduling mhm you know with this but yeah so hopefully we can hopefully I don’t miss it you always got life events going down during big wrestling thing I know I know it’s tough but you know what it’s going to make me stronger if I miss this hey 61 kilograms u20s almost just as nice as 57 uh kale Hughes massive massive Advantage sitting out to the finals because you’ve got deino Blaze nir Bailey uh Kyler Lin uh Sergio Vega in the mix cut down yeah cutting down um from 65 kg where he was at the open to 61 so it’s uh kale Hughes might be the guy if you’re picking a who is sitting a lot of people are probably picking him to maybe not make the team well what’s interesting is only Lin of the guys you just said were at the open so all these guys kind of byass pass the open and just kind of throwing all their chips in the middle for this event but yeah deino Blaze who is and nir to me are the big three to me blae is still the favorite here even though he’s kind of coming up in weight it to an extent from his where he was he’s been competing at 57 kilograms freestyle feels like he’s the favorite even though dinino has the most recent win nere’s results I think have been better in folk style than freestyle so it’s but that being said I feel like nir did take a jump this year at Little Rock like he definitely upped his upped his game finished fourth right at ncas only lost to crook well he lost to Crookham who else did he lose to was it Crookham twice or I don’t recall I think it was Crookham twice I think it was too uh so you know he he’s he’s obviously Elite but to me blae is the favorite here to win this he’ll he’ll be my pick I know deina won and in folk style but I’m still going with Marcus I might be leaning Bailey yeah he’s nice he’s good I don’t know and just that year in a college room MH I my pick would be nere as well he looked maybe I’m putting too much weight on a year in a college room he looked really good at NCAA and at that weight I don’t know like obviously Blaze if this was 57 kg I would be I would pick Blaze but at 61 I don’t know yet what do we make of him skipping the US Open is that a sign like I’m just kind of tossing my hat in the ring I’m not really giving it my all like okay I’ll come here and compete but I don’t really care if I don’t make it cuz if you really wanted to make the team two months ago you definitely wanted to go to the US Open to be able to sit out but you never know it could be slightly dinged up and it’s like all right don’t go now let me recover cuz it was only a month after NCA that’s speculation yeah yeah that’s just speculation I have no idea no it’s a good point though one of the reasons that a lot of guys go to the open is to qualify you don’t just get to show up to UT trial so I think you know nir being already qualified you know maybe was one of those things where where he didn’t feel like needed to be there but yeah um you know deino not not getting a lot of shine here we we talked about Blaze this is the highest finisher High School finisher at the Olympic trials he was he was third there should talk about blae deino was the last guy to beat him in a high school match um you know Ben deino beat him in the Iron Man finals very different match than what we’re going to see in In freestyle because it was just it was an ultra tight folk style contest it came down to ride outs um and and deino got it done but I think I think deino is a is a BigTime threat to Marcus blae and uh a guy that Ohio State fans are going to want to keep an eye on because this is this is one of the first times he’s getting dropped into a field with these guys that are just about to be D1 impact makers and dinino is going to be one too so he could win this weight for sure it should be mentioned blae if he can make 50 7 kg again he can take the U23 will team spot if he wants to because right because he finished national team yes so I don’t I don’t know if he is able to wants to it seems like he would probably rather just make the u20 team at 61 and focus on that but might be something where if he doesn’t make this team he might be like all right time to suck it up M 57 kg in October he wrestled he wrestled 132 all season um in Ohio which you know High School weigh-ins if you’re wrestling 132 you’re really wrestling like 135 or or or more at a lot of tournaments if you’re if you’re Marcus blae I mean maybe set your sights on senior level non Olympic Worlds at 6 Kos maybe that’s maybe that’s a Target I think that makes more sense than trying to hold 125 not just through the summer I mean October that’s Q4 guys that’s insane we can’t be holding holding 25 through Q4 that’s just that’s coaching 101 Tyler all right let’s keep it as an economics major I’m very familiar with the Q with all the Q all the cues we could one of our shows we’ll just get into that yeah really dial it in all right sales 65 kg is zapa still the number one threat to baset baset is into the finals everybody kind of unlike the other weights pretty much everybody was here at the US Open at this weight Bo Basset really kind of ran through it uh but Daniel sepa does have a win over him no one is one no one is going to be rooting harder for Daniel sepa to win this mini tournament than Bo Basset and the crew they want this match they want him back they want this match so badly they’ve they’ve been going all these they want to wrestle they want to avenge that Vision Quest they want to avenge that loss they really do um so I hope we see it I hope it happens just for that because it feels like they’re going to grow apart or not be around each other for throughout their career seems like zapa is going to explode and get bigger and I don’t know how much bigger Bo will get although he’s only going to be a junior this year um now does he present the biggest challenge I don’t know I feel like he might present the biggest challenge to Bo individually because he has that win over him because maybe whatever mental is going on but I don’t know if he would be my pick to make it out of the Challenge tournament no I don’t think he would be uh I mean Aiden Valencia basically navigated this field already yes right and he had a tight one with Sergio limy who goes to Michigan I’m told yep and do I think Sergio can win that match but Aiden’s the favorite on paper zapa is the People’s Choice just for the rematch we’ve seen Valencia bass it twice I still think Aiden can go with B but it was close it it was really close at last chance and you could say one little sequence here or there and and Aiden wins that but then in at juniors in Vegas it was not not not so at the end of that last chance match I mean Valencia was around behind in position to win the match just couldn’t break quad pod right yes so it’s he’s he’s a he’s a a knee a knee away or you know a supporting point away from winning that match and now Aiden Valencia’s at the Olympic trials so um I I think Valencia maybe presents the biggest challenge to to Basset still and and I think Valencia’s had two cracks at him he’s felt you know felt bassett’s pressure twice and just talking to him Connor and I did a little follow along at 65 kilos when we were at the US Open and you can just hear in in the interview with Valencia like he’s already thinking about the next one and so I think he’s probably the biggest threat so for Aiden he’s he’s graduated what what is uh do we feel like he’s going to wrestle right away for Stanford CU I’m excited if that’s the case he seems like a guy that would want to wrestle right away and he seems ready so why do yeah why do you enter all these tournaments if you’re not and then retro your one I don’t know um maybe he does though I think man I talked to his dad about I’m sure I asked I think he maybe does want a ret shardt though really interesting I could be wrong I’ll follow up on the senior level for two years yeah yeah for sure so this would be a really great way before we move on from this way Bray you brought up the video that you and Conor did at the US Open you should plug that it’s a great video we should link it in the CH already plugged it that’s true that’s true he yeah he like I can’t remember he had some really specific editing feedback that yes yeah um but speaking of Valencia it’s uh it’s worth noting I think he would like a rematch with zpa too because zpa beat Valencia the last time they wrestled which it’s been some time that was Doc B like not this year but the year before so I think Valencia would would love this a everyone wants the sauce this weekend yeah and the he loves he loves battling everybody too yeah why do they call him sauce top because he’s got the sauce Tyler got the sauce not too much you’re gonna get lost in that sauce too much David is uh or Tyler and David are reenacting a conversation David had with Daniel Cormier yeah I was yeah Cormier told me that he gave zapa the nickname sauce back like years ago when he was maybe elementary school middle school and I was like well why why’d you give him that nickname he’s like he’s got the sauce Dave allir fair enough all right ay 70 kg PJ Duke sitting to the finals but a one Tyler K second Andel Taylor might have something to say about him making the world team what do we think are people counting out the field versus PJ Duke too quickly I think so I think David Bray is this morning I couldn’t believe it he’s just just PJ I don’t know to me the number one threat here is probably KAC antell should not be discounted I think it’s one of those two if if someone’s going to beat PJ you got antell coming down from 74 kilog or or from 165 he’s going be wrestling this year at 157 really really hard guy to take down different sort of challenge then Tyler kasac is in this Improvement Arc right now uh that I mean what we saw over the last six months from him was incredible and also why I’m so excited for this weight class is this kind of Tyler’s first test testing the waters gauging how he can compete up could he be Penn State’s 157 next year that’s what I’m trying to find out so what I think we’re going to maybe learn at least a data point but I think kak is probably the guy with the best shot the most offense to beat PJ Duke I think given who he’s able to train with in the room the strength and that that PJ brings to the table won’t overwhelm him though I still think it’s going to be a huge Advantage don’t you know there’s no guarantees here with PJ on the world team as great as he is Gabe Arnold he’s a guy 79 we’re jumping up to 79 kg he’s a guy I’m super excited to watch this weekend him versus Zack Ryder is kind of one of my circled hopefully matches that goes down potentially I totally agree feel like feels like Gabe Arnold needs this one um been in the room and Iowa you red shirted you didn’t WR wrestle um you know it’s time to prove the the development you’ve had over the last year Zack Ryder he went on a crazy run was it two years ago he beat Gabe he beat Aiden Sinclair he beat mirisola Conor mirola yeah all in one tournament bananas so it’s it’s a big test here for Gabe the last time Gabe Arnold and Zack Ryder met it was like it was basically the the sea change in terms of how people think about Zack Ryder because that run you went on and Gabe was the first guy that he beat in the quarterfinals of that tournament um since then it’s like Zack Ryder’s gone he’s won two World medals he’s made the U7 team twice obviously and and uh so now I mean he’s the he’s the favorite but Gabe I mean the year that he had at Iowa he looked he looked like a guy who’s who’s wrestling better than ever a guy who’s really ready to to compete hard at this level so um I yeah you’re right Gabe needs this for sure and uh I think not just because of the rematch but just to sort of establish himself even further as as a real Contender next year at 174 pounds Patrick Kenny also entered at 79 kilograms u23s it’s going to be interesting to follow uh along as and you know seeing Kennedy up at 174 pounds is interesting because there’s like well what way is he going to go is he going to try to stay at 174 is this just him throwing his hat in the ring at any we just to get Matt time you think this kind of maybe crosses off 157 I think it does I don’t you know talking to people around Iowa it sounds like neither Kennedy nor candoo would consider dropping down it sounds to me like CBR or RI gonna be holding down 57 for for Iowa this year so if that’s the case and I don’t see Kennedy unseating calando I think Kennedy’s the odd man out here I think it’s it’s going to be tough for him to find his way in the lineup who do who does Patrick Kennedy to get in this lineup I don’t know I’m I’m excited to see him compete at 79 at u23s maybe uh going back to to Gabe and u20s I’m going back to another a full year in a college room and maybe I’m putting too much weight on that especially these high school guys are so good now and so ready and working out you know I’m sure Ryder has been in the nlwc room work out with those guys so maybe I’m putting too much weight on it but I feel like Gabe gab’s my pick maybe I’m just putting also too much weight on watching him beat college guys already we haven’t seen that Zach yet but it just seems like he’s made such a jump in the in the past I think that’s weight you should put on it yeah for sure I think that’s understandable weight you should put on it I’m just thinking about more and more we’re seeing High School guys be ready yeah and so we’re I’m I need to sometimes gauge a little bit where it used to feel like especially u20s it was like well the college freshman coming in are taking every weight that’s not really the case anymore yeah these high school guys it it seems like it’s like 50/50 Gabe was that guy last year you know Gabe was that guy who was ready to rock last year that’s why you know I said all all last season hey he should be the guy for Iowa they should use him if you’re trying to put your best team on the mat cuz he was ready to go Year One and so now he’s was ready a year ago and now uh feels like he should be ready right I don’t think he’s gotten worse all right yeah I don’t either so yeah okay one thing about Zack Ryder though I do want to bring him up because uh you know you mentioned Gabe beating college guys and and Zack Ryder’s US Open was the first chance he’s been at like this older age age level and he had some really close matches some with high school guys some with college guys uh but when he got to the finals against Mulaney I mean he just just killed him just absolutely destroyed him and mvan is a guy winning matches at NCAA he a guy that that looked really solid this year so um I think this is going to be a true battle if if we get to see the rematch between Ryder and Gabe Arnold sticking on the Hawkeye path maybe the one guy I’m most excited to watch wrestle this weekend Ben keer how do we think Ben keer performs this weekend and what does this mean for his long-term plans of playing football and wrestling that he’s competing here yeah so I I asked hey is this is he just throwing his hat in the ring here just trying to get matches or is he gonna is he actually pursuing the world team because there’s different intentions with this tournament right some people you kind of alluded to it earlier some people just hey let me it’s kind of a thing in the calendar and something to train for in the middle of you know the off season whatever it doesn’t sound like that’s what this is for Ben keer like he is fully planning to win this tournament and make the world team wrestle worlds win a world title so if that’s the case then you do have to start wondering well how does football play into that because they’ll be well started by that point in time uh so how would he balance those two I I’m really curious I I really think even though he he is a ageel world champion I think it’s uphill for him to make this team just given how much bigger is he right and this is he’s at you know this is heavyweight this is 285 these guys are really big um and is he ready to take out a Mullen a sahaki and um um who else is in this weight we just got his picture up I need something to refer to you don’t you don’t think uh keo’s been putting on size maybe at all I mean he didn’t look that big um all season to me I thought he look so Lan so that was March or late February against Oklahoma State I was like this is a skinny heavyweight so he should be but is he is it happening is he able to cultivate mass is he walking around with trash bags full of burritos this is what we don’t know I don’t know maybe I’m looking at this with my Iowa blinders but I mean this man won a u20 World title at 97 kilograms you would think he would be able to do that 125 you don’t think he’s the favorite over Mullen well he’s got to go through the field can we pull up the field real quick we had that working on it uh yeah hopy is there is this yep hoaky sahakian pcho delag I thought there were better guys in there I’m not that they’re not great but I thought there were someone else Mullen beat hopkey in the finals I believe no sahakian sahaki and he pinned him that’s right in the finals at at the US Open to sit here and I mean you just look at those two’s High School careers and I feel like keer had a better High School career Mullen made it through the years that’s it yeah Mullen hopy sahaki and keer those are the big four um yeah maybe he is the favorite and I don’t know about favorite again because we he’s a little different those guys were at heavyweight their entire High School careers Keeter built up um has built up into heavyweight we haven’t seen him against these top heavyweights yet like I said in 2022 he was 97 kg and then his senior year he didn’t uh try and make a team if I remember correctly so again another gauge but I thought he looked sure he looked a little small in the four or five dels he wrestled for Iowa this year but he competed he only lost to Kirk Fleet so yeah true I I wouldn’t call it an uphill battle I would call it an even field battle like the plains of Iowa sure very flat okay like what what results has Jimmy Mullen had that make you confident that he would beat keer none okay also Bradley Hill’s in this weight too so little potential uh wrestle off type situation yeah I’m fascinated I’m fascinated I mean I hope yeah so I mean I think this is if you’re an Iowa fan you got to be excited to see Ben wrestling here because it’s like I don’t know I I don’t get the football wrestling thing I don’t see how it it it works right I don’t I feel like cuz U23 worlds are what in November well he’s u20 this is u20 yeah oh this is u20 sorry still u20 well when is when are u20s July or August yeah they’re they’re uh they may be September maybe September that’s that’s like football season yeah they’re prati they I think practice whatever they have to report to whatever they call it it’s like in like a week or two I think this is definitely a sign hey I might still be doing both but it’s wrestling 1A football 1B yeah and if this starts going really well I’m going all in on wrestling that’s kind of to me what what what this seems like yeah you brought up Bradley Hill and I mean just due to attrition he’s the assumed starter right now and he’s R 14th in the country Bradley Hill and I think a lot of Iowa fans believe keer is is a pretty decent upgrade from that and if he all has a great tournament and and shows out I think people are going to be hoping a lot that that keer can not only maybe switch to wrestling full-time but be a big time impact maker at uh at heavyweight well that’s kind of why I’m so excited too because they’re still a little bit of unknown yeah about keer we only got to see him four or five times this year in the college season and his only loss was to Kirk Fleet okay he’s not ready to be Kirk Fleet yet but only one or two guys compete are going to compete with Kirk Fleet yeah here in college so you still don’t really have a good gauge of exactly he beat uh it’s a top 10ish guy exactly so but if he goes and blows through the water here it’s like hey he might be ready to come knocking this year I’m not saying he’s going to beat Kirk fley but he a Feldman type trajectory I would love to see that match Feldman vers um keer yep uh we were not going to get that this weekend but we could get Feldman versus his Kirk Fleet new 23s is freestyle a better suited style for Feldman to beat Kirk Fleet yeah if you look at their their NCA semifinal it was 1 in the third period I believe uh Feldman wisely took neutral didn’t go under Greg uh now you remove the mat equation now Kirky is still incredibly uh well accomplished at freestyle he’s not a novice here he’s made multiple AG level World teams W medals Etc but Feldman is clear clearly improving and you know that low shot he’s got I mean I it feels like he’s slowly figuring things out against because if you go from the Dual meet to Big 10 finals to NCAA he’s he’s inching towards there and for if you’re Nick Felman you got to be kind of you you know this is the guy you have to beat this is the guy you have to beat to win nca’s in all likelihood and and it’s someone you’re going to have to beat to make a uh a world team as well so I think it does favor his skill set better I still think kirket is a favorite but it’s not a foregone conclusion that that Greg kirket makes this world team to me Feldman look at this look at this progression from him he lost to Kirk Fleet by 12 points in their first match six points in their second match and one point in their third match that’s making up ground pretty fast really fast so lose on criteria then win by one uhhuh then win by six then you’ll be in a major yep that’s the progression yeah and guess what he gets two out of three if he gets him in two out of three then he’s on the world team as an economics major I approve of this math okay that’s how it works is that how the trend Works no I I would pick Kirk Fleet in this match still thought you were a finance major I was an economics you just made that up and you just tell me you’re always talking about finance that you major in private equity you’re private Equity major that’s true you and you and Shane Griffith were going to go off and start your own private Equity Fund is that what it’s called I don’t know private no um firm I try to think of a better word but because you’re not you’re fake private Equity I was kind of surprised to see Kirk Fleet even do this tournament if if I’m being honest I don’t think he’s done u23s the past year or two maybe I’m wrong in that I know Brooks obviously was on the team last year maybe I misr but thought he like medled at u23s maybe he did maybe I’m just misremembering who who you talking about he hasn’t wrestled he wrestled u23s he was fifth back in 2019 2019 yeah he’s been U23 almost his whole life he’s been under 23 his entire life holy cow it’s incredible I was looking that up real quick okay so it’s just interesting you know I wonder why this isn’t a qualifier or anything like uh Brooks qualified for Olympic Childs by going overseas and winning uh gold right y yeah for Olympic also one in a qualifi and he was in final a true I think that probably qualified him too yeah it did I don’t know just what I believe okay you’re in fin year before you should be in the Olympic trials sure it’s just what that’s what I think all right so that was u20s u23s uh if you have any more questions for us send him over in the chat maybe we didn’t even talk about Drake I guess we did sort of last time we talked about Drake last time yeah and that I think he’s going to do really well you do at 61 it sounds like this is not like a done like he’s just entering this tournament done want cut weight yeah I don’t think 125 is super easy or fun for him so it’s like he let’s go test the waters yeah there’s some good Waters to test I mean Aaron nals made U23 World teams bakis made u20 World teams it’s a and of course Anthony notto great NCA result so it’s a it’s a really tough field if he wins this it’s a statement from Drake Ayala for sure do you think if he wins he goes 133 or is it’s certainly momentum in that direction I think for Iowa it doesn’t make a difference um they’re they’re they’re going to struggle at 25 or 33 wherever Drake isn’t so if he wins this and looks really good I think yeah you definitely consider that not to bring up the topic that we brought up last show again but 33 is the deepest weight maybe so I think that I think that you would rather have a weakness at 33 if the guy’s not going to potentially do anything than you would at 25 where a guy could win a National Title that’s that finance major in you looking at the probabilities yep that’s good all right sometimes we get forget how much cting weight really does suck though yeah I don’t forget I remember every time I I watch these guys I forget sometimes cuz you look at it you’re like dude like you you were in the NCA finals you were right there like you can do that again you probably clearly have a better shot to win it at 125 but it’s like that just sucks College it’s different you have to make it however many time like many times I know it’s brutal man for months it is brutal that’s why I’m like sometimes I in my head I’m like dog just suck it up and go this way but in real time when you’re the one doing it it it’s a really tough decision it sucks yep all right should we get this a draft yeah all right another draft JD won the last one oh my God you can’t win a draft one and0 well he won the poll I won the polls on Instagram yeah and Twitter and Twitter so the people agreed with me I actually am just I’m just happy that you lost yeah I don’t even care that I took last that’s what you’re like that’s that’s Tyler my team won the the worst moves to be H in we’re going to keep us a running total Here season okay so I want to know no you can’t win this yes you can not a winnable thing won the you can win pick thems the poll this was just a poll no the public voted that I won he was question was who won to public vote Hillary Clinton won the polls in in 2016 just saying okay so you want to have an election yeah we need an electoral college okay cuz that’s what I would base my strategy around no not a popular vote Jerry Mander everything absolutely we’re redrawing all the boundaries today we’re drafting NCA finals matches so the all-time best NCA finals Davey bravy hit us with that uh list generator to see who get where did my phone go there are four rounds to this draft is what I understand right okay I’m going to randomize and this is going to be Serpentine in nature all right my my number one pick is Tyler followed by CP Follow by okay so now you can’t make the excuse I got to go first Kell Russell Bor naskov going off the board quick that’s a great one no doubt doubt no doubt about it I am going to have man there’s two that stick out in my mind and I’m trying to figure out which one would help me more in a social media poll see this is your problem pick the best one this this won’t get included in the clip cuz you make the clips but you’re just you’re not doing it from the your heart and soul you’re just doing it for clout correct it will make it I’ll put it in I’m gonna pick Dan Gable Larry Owings it’s one of the most one of the most famous NBL finals of all time Dan Gable undefeated in college going for his third n title because you couldn’t get four back then loses to Larry Owings who went on a vision quest to beat the man did you watch that have you seen that match yeah it’s crazy it’s crazy have you tried to like rescore it it’s sort of weird I’ve I’ve watched it many times I’m like did Dan score more points kind of seems like he I I didn’t watch it like yesterday in preparation for this I just seen it before okay that’s a good first pick I mean it it keeps Gable from arguing goat with kale am I next I’m always second that’s okay um this would have been my pick number one overall it’s the most popular NCA finals ever it is the most hyped NCA finals ever uh and it’s only gotten cooler since that time yep Kyle Dake versus David T Taylor mhm and listen not only did you say that while those two wrestled but the the the guts that Dake shows leaving the safe Waters of 157 and going up to 165 to take on the Hodge the reigning Hodge Trophy winner David Taylor his friend and with the putting his fourth title on the line to say no I can beat David Taylor let me beat him in the All-Star I’ll beat him at the southern scoble and I’ll beat him nca’s crazy and and it’s not just you can’t just take a while those two wrestled this was a crazy match David comes out picks him right away shoves them off I mean that was Hardcore and then Dake low single gets the back door finish rides just so iconic it was the most watched most popular ever and now you take what they’ve gone on to do Olympic champion David Taylor and it looks like we think Kyle d is going to be an Olympic champion the the the match just gets bigger and cooler every time and NCA wrestling ratings have never been highered they’ve been never been able to match the magic of Dake versus Taylor yep that was going to be my one-1 pick as well um yeah for for every reason you just said the data literally shows it’s the most popular NCA final um so yeah that’s one one but with my first pick I’m going Bo nickel pinning Miles Martin in the NCA finals uh 2018 184 lbs because the team he got it done for his team as well crazy team Race that clenched it for them plus with the pin there was the history there between myar and b nickel mes Martin had beaten him in the NCA finals before so this wasn’t a forgone conclusion uh we got the that’s what we do from this and a film and a film and a film so the only sad thing like um it’s so short you know that all the all the things around it but it’s like it’s over that’s also what makes it so great is that he pinned him he did pin him like unreal um they that was crazy that was nuts you you got back to back you’re back to back don’t take mine don’t take mine don’t take mine my next pick don’t you do it 2009 149 lb okay Daren Caldwell Brent metf that’s fire I didn’t even have that written down personally I was I wasn’t going to pick that one it’s a good one though good as a kid in Iowa at this time Brett mf’s a god he has he teched Darren Caldwell earlier in the year Caldwell comes out Lefty headlock metf inching back inching back the Antics from the Caldwell and then obviously the shove at the end was like the icing on the cake to cement that as an iconic NCA moment how about meaf just facing the music after that doing the interview afterwards I must have watched that interview 15 times where was he like a they booing me right in the tunnel in the tunnel yep they booing me to me they’re booing the guy running guys man iconic iconic match Tyler you probably don’t remember or realize how big Brent me was at the time I don’t I didn’t start wrestling until 2012 so wow that’s kind of crazy so I remember this is the first ncas I went to is it in St Louis and I remember talking with people on the train I think I know it all um and people are like I I remember someone saying I remember this conversation vividly someone be like I think that cwell guy can do it I remember no way and everyone else was kind of like no way come on you’re just being a shock jock saying this and I was like no no one’s beating he already teched this dude it’s over he’s going to kill everyone like the reputation of of meaf I don’t think we’ve had one like it since this this was Peak bad boy Iowa too because they were winning NCA team title as well at this time people hated Iowa destroying hotel rooms so really no and the fact that a guy from NC State beat him the way he beat him the The Flash and the flare and the unconventional techniques of calwell versus the in-your-face pace from metf yeah it wasn’t the I mean he starts off with a like a low single taked down and then he Lefty headlocks him but meaf could have I mean he was in on so many attacks and just could not finish he looked like he was like 85% to all these takedowns and cwell had all this the Shifty hips and was able to countercore a bunch of the makea takedowns it’s it’s a great pick um good start for for JD and again nostalgic for me because 2009 kid in central Iowa that that’s I’m I will never forget that kind of a fake Cyclone fan now bringing that up though hey I’ve always I’m a state of Iowa guy okay yeah but he lost I don’t know if you know that mchf didn’t win I know okay so you know it’s not good for the state of Iowa that a guy from NC State beat you but I’m not it’s your list my list it should definitely be on there that’s a good one mine this is one where I’m like I can remember where I was in the living room of my parents house watching this one being like this match is so crazy oh my I don’t know if he can do it so much hype Mark Perry Jr versus Johnny Hendrick y that was that was on my list this this is insane that this match first of all Mark Perry was O and everything against Johnny Hendrick he had never beaten him was four or five yeah they go Mark Perry is the nephew of John Smith Oklahoma State’s coach they recruited Johnny Hendrick in Mark Perry’s Mind Over Mark Perry he goes to Iowa the sworn enemy and he just loses to Johnny Hendricks loses to Johnny HRI he keeps losing Johnny’s got the lead and then Mark Perry ends up getting a a reversal and he starts riding him and he’s got got to ride him for the turn and then he gets this he switches sides and he throws this like uh this half deep waist and gets this one two and I even the ref like was miked up and hearing him count and oh man I’ll just never forget it Mark Perry kind of crawls on the mat on his knees inhalation for me this is like honestly it’s my number one but I really I kind of want to win the poll and I thought this would come back to me and it did so but for me I was hoping that you guys would like think I don’t need to say this one soon because there’s no way Tyler will know this one cuz you guys underestimate me heavily well you like that doc you like like Mark Perry driven so for that reason I knew it would be on your radar it was definitely going to be my second pick this is a crazy one uh Mark Perry versus Johnny Hendricks incredible incredible NCA final all right my turn your turn get it good pick good pick oh man I have you know I I don’t think it’s any secret that my historical wrestling knowledge is not really on par with with the two of you but I did do some research I’m I think I can stand up to you guys wow I what this is a match that I watched when I was in high school it’s one of my one of my favorite matches one of my favorite in finals matches of all time I don’t know how well it will do on an Instagram poll but this this is just this is one of my favorites what is it allow me to paint a picture for you you’re still painting one of the greatest phenoms of all time um he he goes up he goes to college he there’s huge expectations on him he makes the NCAA finals he gets pinned by an Iowa State wrestler named kin Gatson that is not my match that I’m talking about though oh wow the next year ah this was going to be my next he goes up in weight son of a gun this he wait first of all he wins an olymp A world title mhm goes up in weight to heavyweight can he do it he want he used wrestling at 97 kg uh it’s not ideal for him to keep wrestling at 197 and wrestle at 97 kg there’s too big of a weight difference he wants to go heavyweight but is he big enough there’s there’s already Nick wizowski sitting there a two-time national champion massive man can this guy beat him and for a while it looked like no he gives up the first takedown he’s down two- Z he gives up the next taked down he’s down 53 he gets a taked down with 30 seconds left 55 tie they go out of bounds he has to ride this man for 20 seconds to get to overtime he has not been able to ride this man the any ever you can’t ride this man he’s way bigger than you and you’re not even good on top Kyle you’re not even good on top Kyle he’s I’m I’m sure Kyle’s good on top but heavyweight it’s it’s hard it’s hard he rides him for 20 seconds he goes to overtime giz gets in on a shot on Kyle now to this point most of gizz’s takedowns on Kyle were go beehinds he’s he crushes him a little bit when he when he gets in giz gets in on his own shot on Kyle Kyle much smaller than this man fights off the takedown as gizz is standing back up to his feet gets in on a shot gets the takedown wins a national title gets his first national title after he won his first world title crazy match I was say MSG too mg and also you have to recall Kyle was Olympic red shirting and they announced New Year’s Eve right at midnight I’m coming out Olympic rer I’m going heavyweight it’s like oh my gosh this is going to happen giz wasn’t just like the best heavyweight this man two-time NCA Champion he had a 50 56 match winning streak going into this match he had been the guy one of the most dominant wrestlers in the country regardless of weight so yeah this was going to be my next pick too this is a match I like to think um you show somebody who’s never watched wrestling yes you can show them this match and you can tell like the hype around it based on the crowd the commentary going on during it this was all people talked about from January 1st on this was the number one topic of conversation what’s going to happen including hey how do you see this because Kyle only had a handful of matches and like he sort of the Matrix kind of was like he should kind of be like the four on the same size side as Nick but kind of they sort of rigged it in a way so that they would be opposite one another cuz you had Adam [ __ ] on the same side that was the NCA final the year before giz wrestled him in the semi and then Snyder was down below oh it was it was this is a very good selection I had hoped this would come back to me uh but good job by Tyler and you have another pick I do have another pick now imagine for a second you going to do this whole thing again you’re a really good wrestler just say it just say your pick I’m there they’re they bring in a a top recruit this guy huge future ahead of him everyone’s been talking about this guy for years um you leave the school because you don’t know if you’ll be able to even make the lineup on your own team oh my gosh because there’s this guy who’s so good and he you just don’t it just there’s too much there it’s too much tension you go to a different School mhm you meet that guy in the National Finals I’m talking Bubba Jenkins versus David Taylor Bubba Jenkins Pinn David Taylor in a cradle one of the most iconic moments in wrestling ever yeah well one of the most iconic part was when then he shot down his ankle bands yes also very iconic I don’t I don’t know I don’t think I did a great job painting the picture there but I don’t I think this match speaks for itself you didn’t even paint the picture of him making himself academically ineligible so he I didn’t see that’s why I didn’t know if I could talk about that well I’ll I’ll talk about it it’s not yeah he’s talked about it yeah okay classic move to get a red shirt so yeah Bubba Jenkins uh oh yeah I don’t know you want to talk forget it that’s a good one that’s a good one that was when you talk about like some of the loudest moments like when he hits at I remember the the O the roar when he hits the Cradle when he rolls through oh and then the pin crazy place to went nuts mhm um yeah it’s a it’s a good contribution definitely a memorable one machine gun Bubba was born and we forget too David was smashing everybody that year Bubba was not David was the favorite in this match I was like going into it I was like David is g to mess up Bubba in front of everyone that is literally what I thought was going to happen all the results aligned with that for that year Bubba took some random losses he has in a war with Jason Wells just to make it to the match he had a a i foret it was like a Northern Colorado guy crazy match early on and it’s like David’s gonna kill this dude he killed everyone that year he messed up Steve fidy who was undefeated people forget how good Steve fittery was we got machine gun Bubba and machine gun Bubba just shoots him down the pride of Virginia the 757 wow he gave us some great YouTube content after yeah as well drinking Hennessy out of a giant star from cup uh yeah so this this is a good one this is a very good one thank you my list as well all right well this is this is honestly the number one and I’m getting it for like the what however many overall one it’s crazy that I’m about to do this I don’t believe you Ed banck oh Mark SCH JV match it’s I’ve always said this is one of the greatest NCA matches of all time you’re a coward for taking a hypocrite hyp hypocrite you could have picked it you could have picked it I’ve never called it a JV match I never did either and no one’s been able to produce that quote um you produce it every everything’s archived this is a challenge to the nation a challenge say where I said this was a JV match pretty sure you literally said this is terrible wrestling this match up well that maybe maybe Ed come at us for Pander picks anymore Mark Schultz says you know what Ed banck I don’t want you you don’t get to be a four-time champion I’m G bump up and I’m gonna beat you and we’re just G to throw each other for six to seven minutes until someone gets their hand raised and that person was Mark Schulz legend of the sport legendary match high flying lots of throws all kinds of risk you know all these scoreless first periods oh let me just let me just wait I’m going to Spring my trap late in the match not these guys we’re going out we’re scoring points Ed banck Mark Schultz legendary match high-scoring finale incredible good pick good Panda pick it was on my list I’ve never even seen that match not as well no straight up never seen that not surprised with my pick I thought you might take this one CP one holds the special place in your heart two 2012 133 lbs yeah J steber yo that’s good yep so this was cra’s first title J was trying to defend and it gave us the iconic uh finish at the end j on his butt steber around the ankles Ru change Vice Versa after this excuse me excuse me um the rule change after this we literally call this position the J steber position when yes you’re kind of in the double leg between the legs it’s a takedown now and it wasn’t then and Oliver had beaten St earlier in the year correct bad yes bad at National Duss yep um so St definite Underdog he would go on to win four so this was massive for in terms of the Legacy of his career so everything surrounding this again just an iconic an iconic moment position iconic match yeah great one awesome match awesome match and like yeah you think going into this match you want to talk about ones where I felt like so certain of the outcome I thought man Jordan Oliver is going be so so everyone knows Jordan Oliver so big and I was like man Jordan is going to be so big for this matchup like you know you make weight in morning you’re going to be he’s going to be 100 last match of the year last match of the year I just thought man there’s no way that Logan’s could be able to make up the the deficit here and Logan gets some slick takedowns I mean it was a kind of a back and forth match but Logan hit hit the single I forget what they call this it’s the that uh where you put in the far leg when you’re in on the single leg um what do they call it I don’t have a name for that I just Jack for spams it David David Taylor is really good at it uh Sebastian Rivera did it to uh Spencer Lee and Midlands so really slick and that’s how he was able to get one of his takedowns uh yeah great great match and I think people also hardcore wrestling fans kind of forget at the time how amazing J was and how slick oh my gosh he was 133 lb J was different than 65 kg Jo once he got into his senior career I mean this was like John Smith 2.0 almost he had it all he had shots from every side he had low level he had slide buys he was insane on top and J this era is so insane because you’ve got Kyle D David Taylor Logan steber and like Jo is some erroneously kind of like I don’t want to say forgotten but he is on that level he had his sophomore year he was an undefeated national champion and he really did not have a a competitive match there and so he has that going into this bout where he is still undefeated you got to remember that undefeated sophomore year going into this NCA final undefeated and your opponent you’ve already smashed he was that good and then the next year what does he do he goes up two weights undefeated champion at 149 he was he is that dude that dude that dude that dude J the the Twitter handle is no misnomer and look at this one second he’s so good so yeah this guy is just technically on a just a different level Jordan Oliver and Logan steber beat him also one of the few uh actual good wrestlers to rock the tape Mohawk down the center yeah of the headgear yeah it’s rare that’s a rare move too the can’t be forgetting that the accolades just continue mhm all right my last pick oh this one’s tough I’ve got a couple them debate in between I think I’m going to go panda with my last one shoot because I’ve talked to Casual people casual fans and this is one that they remember I think more than some of the others I would say 2010 133 lbs mine’s still Li Jason NES Dan Dennis duck H around the world oh this hurt me crushed not you think it hurt you it crushed Dan Dennis this man lived out of his truck he became homeless after this for a little bit he had to go off the grid it’s amazing he’s back now you know head coach of Hawkeye wrestling club but yeah I mean just the last second duck to get it done Minnesota at this time how about how about the how about the whirly bird yeah yeah bring that up he got he was about to get ridden out and lose and he hit him with one of the he got the little whirly bird restart o they changed the that that’s one of the main reason that rule got changed cuz Nest was about to get ridden out lose this match he gets the whirly bird re start he was flat he was flattened out he was not going to be able to build up C he hit him with a whirly got the restart hey that’s good tactics nothing nothing against the rules and then this is the classic when you you know everyone you’re watching the match and it’s like man Dan is really engaging here he’s engaging Jason it was sort of surprising because he could have just ran he was up by two eat the stall call short time and he goes from the the Minnesota was really good this little like kind of sweep to the duck to the other side he hits it body locks him to his back oh my gosh I was so you just look your eyes just go to I remember thinking at the time I don’t know I don’t work at Flo I’m just a wrestling fan I remember thinking I was like that would ruin my life if that happened to me I’m just looking at Dan’s face I was like yeah that was it that was his senior year he was going to beat this guy he could never beat Jason S and you just did it you beat him and then you get taken down I was like oh my gosh I’m so sad right now we should plug the H that too J yeah yeah for sure year should plug Wild Man Wild Man Dan Dennis awesome dude one of one I mean Jason has a I don’t know Jason but a fine person indeed not about Jason but just for me personally rooting for for Dan at that time wild man is a documentary flowed on Dan Dennis he has a really interesting story became like a Hermit after that match basically yeah yeah but he got it together made the Olympic team in 2016 which is a crazy one mhm man I have so this is so tough I’ve got a know the last the last one’s tough I have a bunch we we’ll get honorable mention we could talk to talk honorable mentions and I have a bunch um oh man what am I going to do I was thinking do I do Pander do I do what am i g to do got a bunch of Pander Bears over here Pander Bears I’m going this was this is I this is for me all right I’m doing this one fine I’m following my heart not my my mind my mind wants to do one but my heart’s doing another I’m going to go your mind’s tell but my body my body is telling me imar chinzo NCA final this is one where I’m like pen state has magic spells I I was like this is just this that’s when Penn State in my mind hit another Echelon from the you know what they were in the beginning part of the era and dominance to oh my gosh they can they can beat anyone imar was just this unbeatable Untouchable he’s going to be he’s going to be the next four-timer now he had a loss already uh to to to Jason n but he beat Jason off and avenge those losses and and chenzo is just this he’s a freshman he’s really good and he made the finals and good job chenzo you did you had a great year you made the finals from like the six seed or something good job and then he beats him and he pins him and you’re like what’s happening trip inside trips him to his back like it was just not a thought that he could do this he had one of the nicest inside trips he did and he did be they beats him the same way next year but I can’t tell you just the the amount of just the awe I had in that moment that he was able to do that and what Penn State did in that five straight matches where zaye retherford text Brandon senson and then Jason nof Majors wait no it was leavon May and then it was David Carr versus Keegan UL 20 was it 2023 2023 all that way back yeah all the way back well just because it’s one of the greatest rivalries in college wrestling you got it sure is I think it’s too fresh in our memories right now to where it’s not playing Super well but 10 years from now it it will definitely get David Carr beats Keegan two times in a row Keegan wrestles him in the finals kind of just controls him I mean as far as the match goes maybe maybe not the most the exchanges were close but the score yeah yeah I I just think as far as rivalry goes as far as what we will be looking back on I think David Carver’s keano tool is a great match embrace the bait was this year’s better so yes but it wasn’t a final but also I I had this one on the list I thought about putting car mess and Brink I thought about that too that match was fire it was that was a great match uh and that’s one we’ll look back in 10 years be like holy crap that was a crazy match I I had this one down I thought this was a great match as well do you want to get into honorable mentions can I throw one in toss one look this this would have been one of my it would have been up there high for me but 1993 Lincoln maab oh my gosh Jerry abbis yes oh that is a good one I actually know about that one that’s a big miss that was probably miss need to reedit that was that that match was was so crazy because Lincoln maav got his red shirt got pulled that year and you I think there was some question like was that the right decision should they have left him in in red shirt and the true freshman thing I don’t think was as popular back then as maybe it is now uh makes the NCA finals against Jerry abbis Who’s very seasoned Fresno State Legend and abbis is like up big big big really big just killing him and then mavy just Workman like comes back comes back gets the win it’s it’s so iconic is this why you became like uh your boot scoot was your number one takedown cuz you’re a Boot Scoot and son of a gun Boot Scoot I do love the boot nothing goes better with the boots Scoot and Boogie than the mullet Lincoln with rock perect oh my gosh yeah he was just spamming duck unders at the end there and abbis just fell over it’s it’s one of when you talk about one of you I think JD said like a match you’re going to show someone like SN that one is one for me and this one I can’t believe this one didn’t get said and maybe I should have said it but I didn’t want to Rob rone Josh l oh my gosh I mean that’s one I remember when I was a coach I would show this match like you are never out of a match guys look at this he’s getting killed I mean he’s going to get tected 14 to tilt tilt tilt and he hits the mixer and then it’s forever I mean Lamere is fighting like a son of a gun because all he has to do is not get pinned and he wins this match and Ron Settles in gets the pin this one is up there for most icon I kind of wish I took that was on my list and I went for messen brink car over that what no Keegan car what did I say I I went for car over that well this is the one I was between I was tortured and I felt like my my heart and soul wanted to say chenzo IMR but I thought this would maybe help me win but I wish went with uh Ron lamri was literally next on my list and another one you said Tyler this is the one I said Tyler can’t pick can’t pick it uh HRI say don’t say it this is oh that one is just stupid but that’s what makes it so that’s what makes it so real like you guys agree that that match is stupid right yeah I mean he was pinned but it’s incredible and another one I was going to say not only that they gave him like two fake takedowns so fake the fakest crazy yeah it’s a disgrace you can’t pick that match because it’s like what H you want to talk about like it’s not a good final it’s it’s so entertaining though like in it is entertaining in terms of like memory it’s not just the fact that he pinned him in this cradle no doubt about it these takedowns they were given and they only gave two swipes there yeah well they were kind of yeah time was sort of an issue but there’s one where it’s just it’s like the other angle where it’s like you can see the Blades of Glory uh this is one I was like you might take this one because this is kind of your era to Big wrestling fan yes so iconic because of the crowd and Johnny Hendrick the bad boy kind of of Inay wrestling at this time this added fuel to that fire you can hear fans Bo look at this one let’s pull I mean so flat so flat but that’s not even the worst call the pin’s not even the worst call there’s two fake takedowns F down got call them faked Downs they’re crazy don’t show Johnny Hendricks this video he don’t care he’s got the Chip he’s the man but then another one I wanted to say oh man this is like this one was so hard to not include Ben asran versus Jake Herbert this just like I have that on my list I I could not believe when I watched this match on old I could not believe it I mean Jake Herbert is just like the wrestling Terminator guy you’re not going to be in Ben that’s when you’re like oh my gosh there’s just some something about there’s just another technical level that doesn’t even make sense and Ben Asen like it was his Masterpiece match really I had one that I knew neither of you were going to pick that I thought maybe could be an ace in my sleeve is that a term Ace in my sle up my sleeve Ace up my sleeve or is it Ace in the Hole a in the hole is another but an ace up in your sleeve is like your your it’s is a term that’s what you mean an ace in my shirt okay so I had I had this one written down because I knew you guys weren’t going to pick it but then I ultimately didn’t choose it because I felt like the match itself wasn’t that special yeah but allow me to paint you another picture your team gets cut Bob Ross over here your team gets cut yeah I thought about this one Shane Griffith Shane Griffith saving Sanford wrestling by winning a national title in the black singlet that was on my list I I ultimately didn’t go for it because I didn’t think the match itself was that crazy but I think just what that match meant for sure and it’s saving an entire program you agree with me this hard makes me wish I kind of put it on there but yeah then another one in that vein of not a great match but just Nick Serano versus Spencer Le I had that written down but again he won like 6-0 or something didn’t he like 51 51 but just the the energy around that match when it happened we didn’t know if we were going to get it cuz Nick missed a bunch of time at the end of that year uh yeah that was that was a crazy one for sure uh I also had Anthony robless Matt mcdna on my list good 2011 but again not so much the final but just the fact that robless won um another one I iconic what were you gonna say J Jagger’s Chad Mendes this is you know what picture to pull up David Bray this dude Chad Mendes listen good fighter good wrestler dirty dog he just snapped my man Jay Jagger’s ankle just for no good reason other than he wanted to win the match and Jay said you don’t get to win the match because you break my ankle dog and Jay always like downplays like how hardcore this was but he had to finish the match with it straight up snapped ankle and the picture is like it’s his foot is so B up um we’ll see if I can’t find it you can’t find it find the find the screenshot in the match it’s got to be somewhere there’s there’s a great I think I thought Tony had the picture rotundo uh but anyways there’s one picture where Jay is just like screaming and Chad just has the ankle and is like bent it up it’s really nasty someone so as you know I started wrestling in 2012 uhhuh so my first n championships I watched live was 2013 then the next one I watched live was 2014 and my makes sense my favorite match from 2014 which I didn’t think that maybe this would resonate with other people but my favorite match from that one was Tony Ros versus graph because I thought the way he won was like so cool just Savvy yeah but I’s a smart wrestler also graph kind of beat himself in that one too kind of yeah I thought getting the getting that till yeah or the win your senior year getting your National Title in that way I thought was so cool yes especially after he’d been ritten out the 30 seconds before that so he had to ride out to win and then he got the tilt I had Miles Martin beating b nickel in mine 2016 I had mine I had that on M was like an 11 seed or something like that super low coming in I think Bo was the one gave us that iconic picture of my mar jumping up in the air um again that one kind of in the time was crazy but going on to what what B became and the Rivalry kind of became um it added more to it than what it was in real time as well no doubt I was gonna say oh my gosh I found some of the versions of the picture it’s pretty nasty um I was GNA say giz Tony Nelson that that was a crazy one I was a big like giz guy that year because he was there was so many good heavyweights you had Tony Nelson was a reigning two-time Champion you had uh MC Mullen I believe was in mix you had Telford Adam [ __ ] was ranked number one throughout the year the number one was a revolving door and gizowski was like a guy I was like this dude could win it was like not like a sexy pick so I was like high on him early and then he gets it done I thought that was so hype the curse of three and people yeah and then he later would uh lose in his bid for his third title can I tell you something funny no in in hindsight so you know oh you just broke your microphone I’m so powerful fix it you did this you did this Nikki I blame Nikki Nikki’s going to have to come in here it’s cuz you touch it too much no okay maybe maybe all right be quiet Nikki Nikki said I do touch it too much no it wasn’t in it wasn’t fast in I think you have to like turn the whole turn it like that well unplug the the wire first you can’t just I’ll just do it like this just hold it Nikki you come on here you Nikki’s come in here yeah anyways have to go handheld don’t worry about it this is fine this happens Christian just really want to interrupt my story no I didn’t I’m just kidding I love your stories did you say let me tell you something funny and then you just broke his microphone I can’t let people think oh look look come here come on no way that’s fixed Nikki sabotaged this this is our produc come right here Nikki’s our producer he wants to be I feel like it’s not fixed no it’s fixed enough it’s it’s redneck fixed and then we can do the real fix touching it tomorrow put some duct tape on it I’m just look at that okay I did it okay stop touching all right bro I might but I see here’s the thing I move I’m not stationary so stop moving now I can’t even move that was Nicki he’s normally funnier than that but well that was pretty funny what’s your funny story it’s not it’s not that funny you got to you got to Tau me breaking my mic it’s not that funny I I uh so I went to a jro camp between 2013 and 2014 oh yeah and so I that was like kind of my first exposure to any division one college team so going into the 2014 season I was a big Minnesota fan wow um and did Sean bourett know this during the recruiting process I think he knows this don’t tell know you did it I don’t think Sean but so um he did it then uh so I was a big Minnesota fan that year or just I was rooting for them cuz they had they were like the number two team remember the team race between Minnesota and Penn State that year was really good won they beat them in the duel yeah so that Tony Nelson losing to giz I remember like intently watching that match and like rooting for Tony cuz he was a camp counselor and he was very nice very nice guy nice guy he’s big big person huge person holy cow I had this is kind of similar bit of a homer pick but Gadson pinning Snider on there just the way he did it he lost to him earlier in the year yeah another one though it no didn’t he lose him at ckv oh he beat him at ckv yes that’s right oh he did yeah but then it it kind of it grew the legend kind of grew because of what SNY went on to uh yeah to do after without that match we don’t have Champion chip ice cream that’s right that’s right he just wants some ice cream he just wants some ice cream yeah that could be a draft though we don’t really but like best uh post interviews but there’s only like one per year Max excuses are for wusses AJ Ferrari have some nuts AJ Ferrari um well that was post semis that’s what we do that was good yeah now we’re kind of out yeah any other NCA finals so many but I think we’ve exhausted the topic I think all right well we got a couple minutes we can get to some questions here let’s do it this one’s from Joseph Floyd if Levi got 74 should he red shirt like ke graduate and gives him a year to get bigger and fill the weight more also should dean red shirt for the same reason but mostly to get more time under David I support both of those honestly um there’s sometimes there’s red shirts like for lineup fit sometimes there’s red shirts for development this is kind of a little bit of both like going from 174 to 157 is that’s that’s a real jump and no doubt Levi can go in and win a ton of matches maybe every match at 174 but it makes sense for Penn State purposes like you’re they’re going to be fine they’re up like 100 points on everyone again so you can reter Levi and you’re going to be fine at 5765 74 you’ve got Alex fundo he can build up to 74 I think it makes a ton of sense and same for Dean hamdy uh the only thing is do you want to go all in this year if you’re Oklahoma state do you want to say hey we’re here we’re going to put a trophy team this year depends how important that is for David or you say Dean hamy can win a title in two years if you let some of these guys graduate and let him a year to develop because he hasn’t had that red shirt year yet I think I lean towards no though cuz I generally default to put your best product out on the mat if those two guys how bad does David Taylor have just the highest impact year he can right off the bat talking about Penn State too yeah you you you could win probably with fundo in there shoot fundo beat him at Olympic trials he might be the better option anyway but so you’re obviously not taking a huge step back there but I don’t I just I think if they’re the best guy at the weight they should go yeah I mean Penn State has not always had to do that and not always done that um so I think I think it makes a lot of sense to to red shirt him I think they should consider about hamy I think yeah for even that’s to I’m I feel like that’s a big big ger question for me cuz pen State’s going to be fine no matter what but Oklahoma State a huge Point getter for them it’s a real sacrifice if you don’t wrestle Dean hamdy this year it’s not a sacrifice for piny it’s some points but you’re going to win NCA and Levi is gonna come back and be able to win a lot as well I think it’s much less of a Thing If Levi richers versus Dean but it could be the best thing for hamdy next question this one’s from Giovani apple seed oh any update on the coaching job at hofra in Columbia no seems like them not hiring anyone could be a bad sign I don’t think so I think it’s a good sign they’re like going through the process we haven’t heard much about it but I don’t think it’s a bad sign um no no no nothing to add there sorry it’s still early I mean we’re in June I mean you probably want to make a higher semis soon but you’ve got two months two and a half months have you heard I heard Donnie pritz randomly interesting he great coach yeah did some time in Michigan proba the only reason you believe that yes no I he was never a coach at Michigan while I was there but everyone a lot of the guys the seniors that were there when I was a freshman spoke insanely highly he’s kind of revered wherever he goes yeah all right from the real slink who’s the most vulnerable pre season number one going in next year I I mean I think the obvious answer is Richie Just based on the season he had though you wonder is he gonna sometimes you see you have an NCA tournament like that and then you ascend and you become that guy moving forward and I think we could see that with Richie but well what does vulnerable mean like vulnerable to drop out of the top eight or vulnerable to not win a National Title to win is how I look at it could also toss Caleb Henson and there lost to Ridge during the regular season deepest weight um Lis could move up although a moves up I think he would well I don’t know would he be how would you rank it if I said hey Andrew’s going up to 149 who’s number one undefeated two years ago NCA champion at 141 versus the reigning champ who took did he two losses last year uh he yes and Scott or Aron excuse me yep it might be L’s number one yeah so very vulnerable mhm uh who’s going to be number one at 57 jakori that doesn’t feel safe no feels unsafe why did I feel like he was going to move up to 65 cuz I told you he was oh we can talk about that yeah he might uh I also think there’s a good chance Lin goes 65 he loves 65 65 kilos 165b it’s just his lucky number Kil 65 lb 65 yeah uh so he might go up and just get real big or they also have Ruiz at Arizona State who’s number two at 57 cardinas shapy then cardinas yeah 57 F chapy we haven’t seen teamr and chapy russle have we kind of makes me think dude there’s a lot of unsureness all wake list I made it up I’m pretty sure 25 you don’t feel that say 33 Crookham like as great as he is I’m not I’m not writing him down 41 you’ve got Mendes Bartlett maybe AZ 49 wide open weight 57 jakori is number one super vulnerable 65 is the next Topic in my mind with Mitchell 74 is Keegan a next topic up and weight maybe maybe not depends who goes there 84 heisen is only a next topic if Carter goes up to 97 otherwise that’s a crazy one 97 is the next topic if FZ Carter otherwise wide openen weight heavyweight Kirk Fleet is not a next topic though a heavy favorite in my mind so I think there’s a lot of titles uh that are wide open this year be a fun one yeah be a very fun year and with that it’s we’re uh we’re past 11:30 but fret not wrestling fans we have so much great Wrestling coming this weekend we’ve got Geneva u20s u23s Friday Saturday and Sunday I don’t know if the music’s playing maybe we don’t do outro music anymore maybe that’s a thing of the past maybe it’s just a new thing we don’t need it anymore you’re going to look like a fool if it is playing I don’t think it is if it’s not playing in my ear because that’s kind of like my you know helps The Vibes of the outro but it’s not playing so I guess it’s not happening and then uh we’ll be back next Monday JD’s jet setting about but he’ll be back that’s right you won’t even know that he left except you’re going to watch you’re going to hear his voice be like JD’s everywhere and that’s right he’s everywhere mhm Tyler’s nowhere come on dude Tyler only thing Tyler cares about is if he can binge drink this weekend that’s true that’s the only thing specifically asked my dog not beans drink would you pump the brakes please I want to have a beer with my friends is that okay Mr influencing me to have a purple Margarita I I did not I did not I no I don’t think I was a good that was spay I’m reporting you to HR report it mhm cuz let’s I’ll see you in court you’re used to court I love yeah big Court guy yeah put that on my link then loves court all right see you e [Music] he [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Music]

  1. I'll never forget Mark perry's interview before the Johny Hendricks mach. "He's beat me 5 or 6 times in my life, but he could beat me 150 times, tomorrow night I'm going out to win."

  2. Perry vs Hendricks was the 1st match I thought about when this topic came up. Was the first NCAA finals I attended.

  3. HOW OLD can you be and wrestle in high school? How old will Bassett be when he graduates? Sorry dont think guys should hold back to play sports! If there struggling with academics, how do the get scholarship?

  4. If not for nil,I think Keiter stays in football! If the money wasn't there he stays in football! Now he can get payed to wrestle even after graduation!

  5. Great segment.

Dake vs Taylor Definitely # 1 Jenkins vs Taylor. #2 Mark Perry vs Hendricks. #3 Still the best match ending. #4. Kevin Gaston vs Kyle Snyder # 5 Synder vs Gwiazdowsk #6 Metcalf vs Cadwell . #7Mark Hall vs Zahid Valencia #8 Nikal vs Martin 9. Isaiah Martinez vs Vincenzo Joseph ( side note.
