this week’s species provides Anglers with a thrilling Chase adrenaline pumping tugs and even better dinner don’t you think Rick that’s right Rick we’re of course talking tuna here on the Florida Insider Fishing Report which starts [Music] now welcome to the Florida Insider Fishing Report presented by Yamaha welcome back to the Florida Insider Fishing Report we’ve got an exciting show for you with a live cud audience along with the Christopher Columbus Anglers club and our friends from iot plus it’s National safe voting week along with Memorial Day weekend and Rick we’re catching tuna while doing all of it you know what Bri we are catching tuna and the one thing that’s so cool about the State of Florida is that we have blue fin Tunas we have big ey Tunas we have yellow fin Tunas and we have the black fin tuna all which in my opinion are really good to eat but I can’t wait to hear the captains tell us exactly how to catch them in their regions me too well they’re a great fight and with many ways you can catch them so let’s see how our tuna Titan over at the CC workbench gets it done hi tuna Titan a tuna Titan yeah you know okay I I always enjoy your nicknames I’ll tell you that I’m glad you do well we are going to we’ve got kind of like a double new products tonight we’re going to go through all these little products that people used to catch Tunas with so perfect well we’re going to start our frenzy in the sea sucker Panhandle region with Captain Pat Denine and he is no stranger to some big old Tunas hi Pat hey Bri I tell you what uh Tunas they’re one of my favorite fish to eat the panand is probably one of the better places in Florida to catch them uh we get all the players we get blue fin Tunas yellow fins black fins and big eyes spring and fall are the best time of the year to catch tuna in the in the panh handle typically with a long run offshore of the deep water rigs or sometimes a much closer run to the OK Okaloosa fads being the best places to find tuna but with that being said black fin tuners are caught late winter and early spring near shore and sometimes off our Gulfside Piers especially the Nar Pier uh the jumbo Blue Fins are here right now and run well over 500 PBS the Brier patch and the work of art both sport fishing boats based up here in the northern Gulf killed a big one this past week and I’m sure the Harvest for These Blueprints will close soon if they haven’t already uh but to really Target Tunas and expect to catch them 100 plus mile run to the rigs and drill ships is generally required uh while some tuna are caught on the troll Li baate with hard Tails or chunking with black bins uh Bonitas or anything else you have are the most popular and productive way to come home with with a bunch of tuning steaks they’re typically going to be upcurrent of the rig or drill ship uh and you want to use floor carbon leaders a small circle hook I mean they they’re very finicky at some sometimes times or you can uh sometimes a top water lure like a popper on a spinner Rod does really well if they’re busting on top the best bite is usually early in the morning late in the afternoon or overnight and there’s a photo I got from Captain Chase Lake on the team Supreme out of deson where the big yellin they recently caught Li bating around the rig some of those big elepants like that they’re targeting the blue Marlins and that’s the buy catch so that’s not a bad deal right there it certainly isn’t all right stay offshore Pat what else you got yeah Rick the king mackel fishing is as good as it been in years and the kings are being caught throughout the panhan the last few years they were kind of hey where’ the Kings go but so far this year is looking really good live bating over natural bottom areas and 80 to 100 ft of water has been best with ler Garin and herrings beta Choice uh the bait’s can be caught just outside the inlet she’s a toiki rig like we spoke about last week nostal hook your mennow on a stinger hook rig slowroll them around the buoy lines or or move a little bit offshore on some natural or man-made structure 60 to 80 ft of water the has been good with a lot of schoolies and the 8 to 10 pound Kings I know Brady Bowman on the boat up in dtin he had a pretty nice uh catch of Kings today with a couple smokers involved uh moving in Shore but staying with the mackerel the Spanish mackerel been filled into our bays and some big ones are being caught you’re going to find the Spanish on the flat edges and the points uh the edge of the runway flat Black’s point and state Point chah hatche Bay are all productive areas to finally Spanish you can cast top water baits to attract the biggest fish you’re not going to get a lot of bites from the Spanish on the top water but the ones that you do get are going to be the nice ax handles the best way is to be Ching the edges and the points with live Pils in men ha it’s going to definitely produce the best action freeline your baits on 40 lb lers or use a tracer wire there’s a photo of Roy Jones with a big just at dark Spanish macro from chache bayay and it looks to me like that sun is definitely set in that picture uh moving or staying in short Rick the uh flounders they’re targeted in the fall but quite few are being caught right now uh angular’s Target and Flounder are fishing live baits on bottom around the docks in the sand sand po holes the seaw wall at Port St Joe is at the port in St Joe Bay is always a great place to find flounder uh use bull minnows pilter small manads on a Carolina rig with a kale hook or you can go with a curly tail or paddle tail soft plastic I like to you know enhance that soft plastic with a bull Mino or filter kind of you know get double dip I guess and then the night time giggers are also getting their fair share of flounders and they’re also picking up a few sheep’s head and blue crabs as a bonus thank you so much Pat great report we’re going to go ahead and take a look at the hot spots from the Panhandle region Pat says that the big speckled trout are on top water baits at first light on the grass flats and the channel edges around Black’s Island Port St Joe Bay and then offshore less than two weeks of amberjack season left catch a mess of hard taals for bait and fish them over Rex in 150 to 300 ft of water Brie all right well if you plan on tuna for dinner in the front runner boats Northeast region there is no time like the present to go and get some talk to us Tommy that’s right Bri hey we we’ve got an awesome tuna fishery here too I know Pat’s got a really awesome one over there but you know hey black fins are around right now and some yellow fins too I’m going to talk about both of them but here in the front runner Bo Northeast region you know our better tune effici is typically when the water is a little cooler not usually means like you know November December through about right about this time of year and then we have another little run of those guys heading into the ball now most Anglers are going to Target the black fin tuna right on the ledge that’s about 180 to 200 feet of water our Tunas tend to be a structure oriented fish so you’re going to want to look for any structures that are holding a good amount of bait that’s where those Tunas are going to be now most Anglers are going to pull Cedar plugs and something like a blue and white or maybe a Balo rigged with a sea witch and there’s a variety of other lures I’m sure you Dave we going to talk about him tonight Rick um but Captain I’ll talk to Captain Jason hages from j-hook fishing charters he’s one of our tuna fish experts he tells me he likes to run his plugs way back somewhere in that 100 to 200 yard range you know the Tunas they tend to be a little spooky at times you know and C Jason always tells me that it seems like the rougher that the ocean is the better the tuna fish bit’s going to be and probably because it makes those Tunas a little less shy so even when it’s rough you might want to give it a go now we do have have some yellow fin tuna around and you cana occasionally catch them in the same areas that you’re going to find those black fins but really if you want to Target those yellow fins you’re looking at a long run to the east side of the Gulf Stream now we’ve seen quite a few big yellow fins in my region here and it seems like every year more Anglers are giving it that long run ago and it is a long run to the other side of the Gulf Stream but it can totally be worth it when you get into some of those big yellow Fant Tunas cuz most of them that I’ve seen come to the dock this year they’ve been 40 to maybe up to 80 100 lb range and I’ve got a photo here our buddy Captain Gibb from lurman he sent me this picture of Buddy Tillis with a nice yellow fin that they caught on the other side of the Gulf Stream last weekend I think that’s right at Sunrise those guys leave at like 2 o’ in the morning or something they’re they’re kind of crazy but staying offshore guys I spoke to Captain Jimmy ler from The Legend fishing this week and man Jimmy and his crew have been absolutely slaying the offshore fish this year it’s been crazy he’s been bringing in some huge Mahi as well now Captain Jimmy says the Mahi season you know what it’s just about over he thinks that this weekend might be your last shot at getting into some big numbers of Mahi so if you’re looking to do that give it a go I think the weather’s going to be pretty nice said they’ve been uh those Mahi have been at the ledge but don’t be afraid to check in a little shallower he’s been finding some fish in that 120 to 140 foot range and Jimmy said to look for the current edges and of course any kind of weed line the average size of this Mahi they’re 10 to 20 pound pounds but there are some bigger fish in the mix and speaking of bigger fish and a lot of them I’ve got another picture here I would say that Captain Jimmy’s customers are going to have a major fish fish fry after this haul of big Mahi they they caught aboard his boat the legend I mean they could probably feed the whole town there C you’re making me hungry boss all right let’s go in short why not yeah I’m man the trout bite really picked up for me this week in St Augustine HP water plugs that’s been my clients’s goto for the trout and the red fish really this week when the conditions have been right I talk about it a lot that Berkeley jwalker been working well early and then late in the day during those low light conditions that color right there you’re holding Rick that is a killer right there they love that thing um but we also been catching some nice size trout just using the good old float with a live shrimp or a mud menow underneath it now any small run out that’s coming off some of these bigger Flats when the Tide’s coming out with a little bit of current flow has been they’ve been holding those trout in those areas especially the ones that have some finger mullet fing funneling through them now the silver trout are also covering up the Nearshore wrecks the ones that are within about you know 10 miles of the beach any live bait shrimp mud minum mull anything like that on a quarter a half ounce jig has been working well for those silver trout on those Nearshore wrecks now also inore the flounder have really started to show up in better numbers here there’s some bigger fish showing up as well the inlets the Rocks the docks any other kind of structures around those inlets have been hot spots for The Flounder this week a big mud minnow or a finger mullet on a fish finder rig that’s going to be my go-to and probably one of the more popular setups for those guys the key is to fish on the bottom really really slow and sometimes that’s going to mean using quite a bit of weight especially if you’re fishing on those inlets and heavy current now if you’re not on the bottom you’re not going to find those flounder now most of the flounder have been in that keeper size range and there are some big fish mixed in there we’ve caught a few this week and got a picture of a big one here my buddy Captain Steve Casio he sent me this picture of his client Mark Edington with a doormat flounder that he caught at the St Augustine Inlet this week yes he did that’s a really nice one all right thank you for all the pictures Tommy just like every week we’re going to go ahead and take a look at the hot spots from the strike zone Northeast region Tommy says that ensure the flounder at and around all the area inlets use mud minnows finger mullets on a fish find rig with enough weight to get to the bottom and then offshore go to black fins and those Mah at the ledge Bri and catch them catch them all right get ready for the Shor line Showdown Surf Fishing Tournament series presented by fish fits four tournaments one championship and over $75,000 in guaranteed payouts you can fish for a chance to qualify to compete for the all right the fish bites Trading Post Rigs and tuna techniques is up next at the CCA workbench with none other than Dave frell Dave what do we got over there we’ve got everything that’ll catch the tuna that’s for sure we got a lot of stuff there’s lots of ways to do it all right then we’re getting our life jackets wear ready for the 3-day weekend in the Discover Crystal River Northwest region with of course Captain Jeff hagaman we’ll be right back the Florida Insider Fishing report is brought to you by Yamaha reliability Starts Here Fenwick feel everything Serious XM marine weather fish mapping entertainment pen let the battle begin Kasa yha Lodge five-star angling in beautiful Guatemala Berkeley prospec Chrome Fishbites Trading Post the first choice of First Coast Anglers and dairy deck food RS [Music] friends so as you can see we’re here at the CCA workbench and it’s time for the fish bites Trading Post Rigs and techniques Dave yes sir it is they’re clapping so loud I can’t hear myself think I know exactly so awesome that’s good so what we’re going to start with is when you’re fishing for tuna you know tuna is one of those red-blooded fishes that never gives up it’s worse than an amberjack in my opinion they they just they they never stop fighting they don’t have a swim bladder I don’t believe so they they they just they fight all the way to the boat so you got to have something strong to catch them with and if you want to torture yourself with some spinning gear this is what you want to use right here this is the authority spinning reel it’s the new pen standard is their best spinning reel line uh Best in Class for smoothness and sealing uh it’s got Precision cut stainless steel gears all through it uh you can sub submerge this in water it’s completely sealed body and the spool it’s got a full metal body so it’s not going to you know shift or or Torque when you catch a big fish and you’re putting a lot of drag on it and uh it’s just a really good reel and it’s got a a pin Carnage Three Rod uh a spinning boat rod which is really powerful it’s very thin for how strong it is Aluminum re seat again because you need to have you know that strength when you’re fighting a big heavy fish and it’s got a big aluminum metal gimbal on the back too cuz you’re going to want to use a belt when you’re catching a big tuna fish and I loaded it up with some Berkeley 40 lb braid as the backing and then I top shotted it with the Berkeley uh Prospect Chrome 30 lb so we can still cast and we got fluorocarbon I think what 40 or 50 on here as well you’re going to you’re going to need some big stuff so tell us about the big popper by Savage D well that’s the Savage gear uh Pro popper there it’s a big Panic popper it’s called and it comes in 11 colors a bunch of different sizes from you know 3 and half inch all the way up to 7 and 1/2 in and up to 4 oz they if you’re going to catch big Tunas you know if you’re in a cast at yellow fins that are busted on the surface this is what you’re want to going to want to throw heavy duty Hardware throughout uh you can catch Snappers and groupers on that thing sometimes if you’re lucky if you get them chumped up to the surface but you know this thing has a really big mouth so it spits really well and makes a lot of commotion which is what you want to have so get you one of those now a lot of guys like the vertical jig or you ready to talk about Bait fish talk about the jigs that you know this is a Savage gear slim jig minnow it’s a uh it’s a flat fall jig really heavy they run from 4 oz all the way up to 14 o in six different colors uh when you’re getting on top of a school sometimes a school will go down you get right up on top of them you can drop a jig down and still get a bite you right uh they’re very you know tuna are very wey these days cuz they get a lot of pressure so sometimes that bottom bite is a little easy easier for you to get I’m going to talk a little bit about the hooks we got there those are some trocar extreme live bait hooks uh we’ve got two different styles here we’ve got the extreme live bait which is a thinner wire and that’s the tk8 HD extreme live bait hook and then we have the H the uh the just the regular ones there that are just the extreme live bait hooks and you can tell the difference cuz not only in the size of them but the wire is a little thicker if you’re using smaller baits and you want your bait to stay alive a little better uh you go to that the just the extreme live bait hook cuz they do have a forged shank and everything they’re still stronge both of them have welded eyes but if you want if you’re really catching those big Tunas you know Tunas over 40 lbs you might want to go with those HDs because that’s not going to bend out on you you know how much drag you use you’re not going to bend out that hook and they’re americanmade in Denver Colorado and you get the tk7 or the tk8 you can also use one of these Primal circle hooks you know uh Patty boy was talking about when you’re chunk a circle Hook’s a great uh uh Hook when you’re using that so you can just drop your chunks back there and let them eat it and run away and they get just right in the corner so you know what HD stands for heavy duty uh-uh hot hot damn cuz we got dinner on the line Bubby there you go all right Brie hot Dam hot Dam okay that was a hot damn workbench segment all right Captain Jeff Hagman is getting us all tune it up for the Memorial Day weekend in the Discover Crystal River Northwest region so hag let’s hear it hot Dam hot Dam it’s tuna time and it’s right now uh mostly black fin tuna we get the occasional yellow fin uh most of our tuners are going to be caught from 80 ft of water and out uh you want to look for frot Birds a a lot of fish can be caught behind shrimp boats right now when they’re dumping their B catch first thing in the morning uh before they go to bed so they’ll dump their by catch and bring the black fin tuna and Bonita and sharks you’re going to have to weed through a few of those get to those black fin tuna you can also catch them on high relief structures they’ll hold them as well good well Full of Sardines or thread fin heing free line behind the back of the boat with a lot of chum will bring them up right behind the back of the boat over those artificial leef and racks another thing Dave was talking about those butterfly jigs work really well out there too on those deep water wrecks the elephants are going to be a little bit further out off the shelf trolling naked BOS uh big lip plugs plugs and tremblers all work for them all right so what else you got for us offshore bub the P bik’s been really good right now over the reefs and wrecks and anywhere from 35 to 60 ft of water uh the middle of the week right now all these crabs are flushing out first thing in the morning I mean excuse me first thing in the morning early in the low light hours and late in the afternoon on the outgoing tide you can dip some crabs up and go off get on these wrecks um pass Grill John pass egg mon Channel will’ll all be having crabs flow out of them so you can dip them up before you head out or dip them up the night before you want to use anywhere from 25 to 30 lb fluorocarbon liter 6 fet of it get a good stretch of 40 uh good stretcher leader there those permit are really weary so a nice four out TR ster hook will work really well over the Rex and the perent right now ranging anywhere from 15 to 30 pounds and I’ve got a photo here a nice permit that looks good bub man that looks like a happy guy all right let’s go in Shore yeah moving inshore Captain Mario costell T’s Charter out of keys Marina reports a good red fish part right now around the mangrove Islands in Back Creek from Crystal River Toom assass he’s working the mangrove shorelines that have Sandy pot holes adjacent to the mangroves on that low tide he’s working out from those mangroves and getting on those poth holes live pin fish and cut m has been the key on an eigh O jig head uh the red fish have been a little leader shy water’s been really clal clear up there right now so 15 lb fluorocarbon liter is the way to go also a stealthy approach he’s making really long casts towards those mangraft Shore lines to get those bites and not scop those fish right now the fish are ranging anywhere from 20 to 27 in with a few overs slots mixed in and I’ve got a photo here with Kim with a nice 27in red fish caught with Mario on a recent trip all right okay tell me about Jim Pard any reports he’s got a good snook bite right now a lot of the fish are showing up near the passes right now and getting on the beach lines throwing large Pils and large thread pins with four to 6 feet of 30 lb floc carbon lader and a 30 to a 40 TR car circle hook has been his setup for those larger fish and I got a snook here that Captain shot Captain Jim caught his first ever client his first ever excuse me snook and that’s a hard one to pass up and beat for his first one ever so he’s going to be hued on snook fishing from now on out yep don’t forget to sign up right now for the CCA Star Tournament there’s uh new divisions this year and a whole lot of new stuff going on snut trout and red fish divisions and a half million dollars in prizes so get registered for that and win some money and win some boates all right thank you so much Jeff great report from the Discover Crystal River uh Northwest region we’re going to go take a look at Ozella Key Marina hotpots from the northwest region he says the snook bite in the lower part of the region uh on the outgoing tide is what you want to one to do make sure you use a pin fish or sardines and then offshore The Mangrove snappas in 30 to 70 ft of water over High Relief structure use a tail hook jumbo shrimp or a sardine for bait well like Jeff mentioned we are only a few days away from the start of the CCA Florida star competition presented by Yamaha the 100 plus day competition offers $500,000 in prizes and scholarships and includes a division for all types of Anglers yes even tuna species can be entered and of course if you land a star tagged redfish you seeing what kind of action the Kasa Southeast region has a store for us with Captain Jas from the Thomas fly airport I’ll be back the Florida Insider Fishing Report is brought to you by power pole total boat control Berkeley your fish our science bahio blue light blocking radically clear polarized fishing sunglasses scoozy shoes the Captain’s Choice for premium lightweight Comfort sea sucker easy on easy off incredibly strong pen let the battle begin Kabota together we do more and the international order of T Roosevelt protect your right to [Music] fish so as you can see joining me is Luke Hamman from the executive director from I TR which is the international order of Teddy Roosevelt we’ve got some problems in Florida and I want you to explain to our audience what those problems are unfortunately there are efforts underway in States like Oregon that would make it a crime yes a crime to catch a fish or harvest Wild game the people of Florida have an opportunity in front of them this fall to to make sure that fishing and hunting are forever protected here in the State of Florida so how how are they going to be able to do that Luke so these efforts they they radical efforts out there that really believe that catching a fish or harvesting Wild game are somehow inhumane what we know again is that this is the truest way to have conservation and to bring back these species and to make sure that they’re here for future generations to enjoy and we have to protect these Pursuits to make sure that they are here in Florida forever so in November we have a chance to vote but we have to fill out a petition so how do we go about that you go to save Florida fishing.com we have over 50,000 people here in the State of Florida who signed the pledge to vote so far but we want to make sure that this thing gets as much support behind it to make sure that fishing is forever protected on the state level they already voted for it 154 to1 154 to1 it pass guys it’s a no-brainer if you want to continue to fish you want to continue to hunt in the state of Florida we don’t want to be able to allow these guys to even have a voice with us so what more can we do we can click on the QR code yes and you can go to www.i.com or.org and find more information make sure you educate yourselves educate your fishing friends and make sure that they get out there and vote this November well on behalf of all the viewers of the Florida Insider Fishing report we want to thank you for what you guys are doing you’re doing a great thing for us and guys just click on the QR code and get signed up right Bri absolutely all right let’s get Captain Jim Ross on the line in the real Legends Central east region to tell us all about some tuna trolling and shuming hi Jim hey gang I tell you what we’ve got some tuna and I you know in my in my Spees species list over the years I’ve normally talked about the yellow Fen tuna that the guys run across the stream for but I’m going to change it up this year and I want to talk about a species that’s a whole lot more accessible to most of the anglers in my real Legends re and that is the black Vin tuna so guys that are staying on the western side of the Gulf Stream now you can catch these fish in good numbers at certain times of the year but you have to rig for them properly this species of smaller tuna loves to eat small Bait fish and Squid so when you’re targeting them those bigger lures that you’re dragging out there put those aside grab grab the little ones and pull little things that are six in or less in size black Fen tuna like dark colored lures so anything that has black with purple or blue or red in it works really good and for live baits pilter or pogies you can Chum them up especially when they’re holding around the shrimp boats that are anchored on the 21 or 27 fathom ridges throughout the day and the rest of the time of the year basically you just want to find a good temperature break or some form of bottom or some form of structure a color change a rip a weed line over some form of bottom structure like the 21 or 27 fathom Ridge and most of our black pin tun are running 15 to 20 pounds at this time now the other species offshore now this is not one that you typically expect to catch offshore but there’s some really good numbers of them on our wreaths right now and some of the recks as well so anywhere in that 50 to about 70 or 75 foot range you can find black drum and they’re eating live shrimp on a knocker rig it’s a you know little 1 o 2 O rig short shank hook uh circle hook drop it down there with a shrimp on it and don’t move it much and the reason I say don’t move it much is because obviously black drum are a little more like cattle than they are like a predator like a wolf or something you know so they they don’t they don’t taste things very much and I’ve been catching a lot of these fish in 50 to 60 foot of water in particular and they’re eating cocko shells which is a type of a clam so obviously they aren’t chasing anything if they’re eating clams so the average drum right now is running about 3 to eight pounds and I’ve got a picture here of Amy Lombardo with one that she caught these things are absolutely delicious when they come out of the ocean the meat is incredible so go out there take advantage of it hit some of those Nearshore re Ledges and re and and Rex and get some of these fish now swinging in Shore Rick big Jackal started to show up and I love catching jacks on top water they’re roaming throughout the Indian and banana Rivers the deeper sections right now so look for birds that are racing around and blowing up uh while where the fish are blowing up Needle Fish and glass minnows and mullet they’re chasing around stuff at 15 M hour so this is a runand gun type fishery almost like you would fish for Dolphin offshore uh where you see birds working and you run from pack to pack they’re aggressive fish our average fish is running about 3 to 8 pounds big top water plugs or jerk baits are working really good for them here’s a picture I’ve got of one of those fish that we got in the Banana River the other day and then my last species I talked with Captain Glenn Austin of going Coastal charters.com out of Sebastian and he reports excellent numbers of fish around the mangrove covered shorelines docks spoil islands and sandb bars in the Indian River around the Sebastian area the snook right now are targeting a lot of smaller baits so he’s using small artificial plastic lures like the bass assassin little p&v or small suspending hard baits that imitate small Pils and small glass minnow and basically smaller fish if you have some live Pils or even some cokers they’ll really work good too especially if you’re fishing around some of the spoil Islands Glenn likes to fish near mullet pods if he can find them and he says if you’re in three feet of water or less this big snook can be up to 40 in right now so tackle up just a little bit here’s a picture of one that they caught this past week nice all right Jim thank you for all the great pictures we’re going to go and take a look at the radam Marine systems Hotpot from the central east region Captain Jim says snook red fish and Gator siiz trout around the mangrove covered shorelines from Campbell pocket down to Ballard Cove freed line cork cokers mullet or Pils under the trees is going to work for those guys and then offshore the king fish on the 70 to 90t bars slow troll with live or frozen baits with the wire Stinger rig Brie okie dokie in the C OFA Lodge Southeast region we’re focusing our Tuna catching efforts at sunrise and sunset with Captain Jimbo Thomas what else can you tell us Jimbo hey Bri and everybody else in the studio there well you know the two types of tuna that we catch here in the Southeast region are black fin and yellow fin and unfortunately we don’t catch too many of those yell fants now in February and March there’s some blue fin sightings but they’re usually not targetting but the black fin are the most common and we do find them throughout the year but late April through mid July is when we do catch the most and the biggest black fin Tunas and we generally can get black fin bites throughout the day but since Tunas are low light feeders early in the morning than late in the afternoon until dark are typically the best times to Target them as well as on overcast days now in the past week we’ve been catching 15 to 25lb black fins been using live herrings Pils and sard and gogg eyes Under the kite is going to work best but if there’s not enough wind you can Flatline them or drift them and best steps have been roughly 100 to 300 ft of water on the Thomas FL we use 20 lb pin tackle 30 to 40 lb floral lers and 50 to 60 circle hooks and if you can catch enough pilter or other base to Chum with live chumming will definitely help get them going now there’s also been a few blackin caught on the troll using rig baits small lure and lures but the fish in the light base are generally going to be much much larger now I got a photo here of an awesome yellow fin tuna wow by colon Dylan and Lawrence this one’s estimated about 140 lbs and it was caught off Miami on 20 lb test I think they fought it for about two hours so spectacular catch there but you don’t catch elephant tuna I said rarely we catch them that’s a good one all right tell us about the Kish some of the best Kingfish action that we see here in the Southeast region is around the full moons of May which is yesterday and today and throughout the region Kings from 10 to 30 lbs and larger they’re being caught on live herrings and Pils goggle eyes sardines fish them under the kite once again or you can drift them uh best STS are like 90 to 180 ft also put a deep line down cuz there are some some King bites out on the Deep line now on the south end best bite seems to be from holiver Inlet south of Triumph free which is a pretty broad area and then in the North End best bite is in the Hillsboro area also a big bait like a speedo or a big blue Runner double hook it freeline it drift it back there that’s what you can get those big Kings on bit SP steady throughout the day but like the Tunas if you get out there early in the morning fish late in the afternoon that’s when you got a shot at one of those big smoker Kings got another photo here this is roughly an 18lb King caught a couple days ago with with uh by Ethan he is fishing with us and he’s from Naples Florida all right now moving inshore this is the last week to keep a slot siiz snook and they’ve been biting in the inlets also around the lit docks and bridges and the mangrove shorelines throughout the whole region in the inlet drift in the the Jetties in the evenings with live mullet pin fish and herrings you want to use a Jupiter rig or you can use artificials flare Hawk jigs are a great choice and the fish have been slot and above slot size and the tide is doesn’t really matter as long as it’s been moving then around the bridges and docks you want to work the shadow lines with live baites swimming plugs also soft Plastics and the outgoing tide has been the best and remember limit is one snook per person and that slot size between 28 and 32 in and then in the evenings and early mornings there’s been tarping in the inlets and around the bridges and they’ve been feeding on live shrimp crabs and mullet tide again isn’t much of a Factor as long as it’s moving and around those bridges the outgoing tide has been the best but in the in the inlets doesn’t matter which way it’s going there’s also been schools of Tarpon on the outside flat you want to look for migrating Tarpon on on the oceans side points of any of the islands from soldiers key South Angel Fish Creek incoming tide is the best time to Target them you want to use crab and shrimp pattern flies if you’re fly fishing or neutral pattern swimbaits in small live crabs on a 5 circle hook if you’re using those live crabs and you want to work the bait slowly through the school or cast in front of the school and make a very slow retrieve through them all right Jimbo thank you so much great report from the caviera Southeast region now it’s time for the Black Oak LED hotpots he says that Drift Live crabs around the lit bridges in the inlets and also in any of the deeper holes in biscan Bay for the big evening Tarpon and then go offshore fish live baits under a kite or on the drift in 90 to 200 ft of water late in the day for black fins King Fish and even a sail fish I just love Jimbo R takes you up and then he takes you down and then he takes you back up and then back down it’s like a roller coaster ride on the Thomas he really is all right the Qs Marland tournament is coming up July 17th through the 20th for your shot at fishing for some serious cash in the sundrenched Florida Keys this is more than a competition it’s a high stakes adventure with hundreds of the Memorial Day taco marine new product sale at the CCA workbench show us a sneak peek Dave I think these are Murphy size I can almost hang these for my rear view oh low blow which is where he goes all right and then we’re seeing how the Tako chin region likes to catch him up with Captain Ridge Murphy get those vessels ready for your Coast disc safety check and we’ll be right back like the Florida Insider Fishing Report is brought to you by Ulta equipment company where uptime matters a merit tril load launch relax Abyss battery power your Pursuit Rodan set it forget it catch more fish discover Crystal River Florida bass assassin and saltwater assassin best lures period and Maverick Boat Group makers of Premium boat Brands Maverick Hughes Pathfinder and [Music] Cobia well it’s time in the show for the taco marine new products here at the CCA workbench and you know what Dave let’s just hop right into it I’m really excited about some of this stuff well then we’re going to start there with that portable Led Led clamp on navigation light combo you know salt water and and electricity rarely you know mix together and and a lot of times the first thing that that’ll wear out on your boat is your nav lights so correct this is a really good thing to have just in case your nav lights are out or even if you just want to have a little John Boat and you don’t want to you know keep keep a a permanent set on your boat right uh these These are clamp on you can uh move them and put them wherever you want uh they’re battery operated uh it’s got the stern and the B lights in there they got little nice clamps that come with it and you can put them on all different ways you know and it just enhances your safety and visibility at night and it’s also you know these are um complies with all the navigation uh regulations for proper signaling they have three AAA batteries in there they’re LED low amp draw so the batteries last a long long time it’s takes three AAA batteries this is a great backup for guys that fish tournaments because if your nav lights don’t work they will not let you go until safe flight and guess what sometimes that could be 30 minutes later I just had to get a new set put on the front of my boat because of that so yep next we have the large recycle waistband from CC from seesucker uh this is the CCA version that the give back color collection uh it’s got little what you don’t tear it apart now anyway they got these nice big 2 and 1/2 in circles on the back the seesucker uh vacuum sealers it ain’t once you put it on something that is not going to move this is made to put your cans and your water bottles your recyclables in there we usually fill up a live well or a bucket and you if you’re running yeah stuff goes flying out and I turn around and go get that crap and you should too but this red one is the CCA one you know 25% goes to the CCA the purchase price they also have an orange one for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and a blue one for Heroes on the water so so you can support your cause exactly and this you know you know it’s a great uh waste receptable to keep all your stuff where you want to keep it and and uh keep it out of the water especially right se.com if you need one you get to give money back to conservation through seesucker right sees sucker. comom collections it’s in there okay next we got the scoozy shoes the men’s Dell Marina uh very nice looking shoe uh looks Form and Function all in one one spot incredibly light and comfortable they only weigh like 6.3 o you know half the weight of a regular uh deck shoe water resistant uh full grain leather on the top there a breathable mesh they dry very quickly very quickly and the non nonskid on the bottom and it’s non- marking as well correct real thick sole so they’re impact resistant you know you’re in a center console or something pounding out there it’s like you’re standing on a nice mat already so they come in three different colors Navy brown tan beige and gray Navy they got anti-odor antimicrobial although I’ve been able to crush that anti-odor on any shoe I’ve ever had they they run small well there’s a challenge exactly they run small let’s make sure we get your size they run just a little bit smaller uh half size uh larger if you just got a regular foot if you got an extra wide foot go ahead and get a full size bigger up so go to scoozie sco.com all right to check those out last but not least let’s talk about these beautiful well these are fathom out offshore Vivid squids and uh they’re engineered to be some of the best squids on the market uh make to put them into teasers you can they’re designed specifically for dredges chains spreader bars tuna fishing uh a lot of guys pull squids out there just to get them to come up and see what they got that oversized mantle fins on the and the main tentacles really you know vibrate and make a lot of Splash uh they’re loaded with UV additives uh so they really emit a u of UV glow when they’re in the natural sunlight uh they got a really heavy reinforced nose at the top here and what that does is it keeps your swivels and your if you want to put a sinker in it or even a couple beads or whatever keeps them from pulling through cuz that’s that’s the weak spot in a lot of squid and they got a big ball of rubber up there or whatever that stuff’s made out you like this offc Center kind of wobbly yeah yeah it it it it just you know it makes it gives you more exactly we want that we want that thing to spray and and and kick up a lot of fuss and you can put them in a nice long chain you know rig them backwards so that the the hook the the the mono is bending backwards I like to do it that way so that they really stay up on the surface and and make a lot more noise when you’re pulling so what’s this f stand for Dave fathom offshore nope fantastic Dave you’ve been messing up all night fathom offshore. forgot hot damn and F Oh Come hot damn okay said something else you like my nicknames the new one is anti-odor Crusher how about that one you gave that one to yourself right there are a ton of ways the Tako chis region takes on the tunos so let’s find out how Captain Ridge Murphy’s doing it hi Ridge you know here in the Ala equipment region tuna come in all shapes sizes and colors from football size black fin tuna on a vertical jig to the occasional yellow fin tuna or even a blue fin tuna in the spring months on the kites Springtime and early summer is the most common time of the year to catch tunos but mostly black fins ranging from 8 lbs to 30 lb meatballs Tunas is definitely one of our favorites down here in the keys and guys will Chum for them with live filters or dead baits drifting on the humps or anchor or bump troll on the large wrecks you can also kite fish with a big spread if the wind allows you to but scale baits like thread fins filters and sardines or candy for Tunas use a 30 lb to 50lb liter with an offset Eagle Claw Circle cook and sharks are a problem so make sure that you use short little pumps and keep that handle turning I got a photo of Captain Chase barnor with a nice black pin that he caught on a charter the other day that was his customer nice all right what else you got offshore bub we got permits on the wreck so look for a wreck schooled up floating in big schools and floating and mooning on the surface throw crabs in a light spinner and have one ready with a couple split shots that way when they sink down you can still get down to them use a light leader and that way that way you can get the bite but the Sharks again they’re pretty bad and they’re pretty aggressive so you try to put some heat on them if you C I have a photo of Philip man from from front runner boat and that’s his first burn he ever caught all right all right let’s go in Shore bub I got bone fish in the back country island marada and all the way into the low keys and look for mutters and tailor and fish into the current stop the boat short of the fish and throw a big lead out in front of them and it’s okay not to move your bait give it time for the fish to approach it and then in the process of coming tight you reel as fast as you can for 10 seconds and lift the rod up real real high make sure he keep his head out of the grass and keep the head out of the Rocks cuz he’s definitely going to want to dig down all right what else you got for us in Florida Bay report it all yeah man out front of Florida Bay we got a large body of trout look for big muds around the edges of the channels and into the Lakes use a 7ft finwick pro elite medium to medium light rod with a/4 o jig head under a cork fish bites hammer fish shrimp remember guys pop pop Paws pop pop paw just like that and the fish are going to eat on the paws and I have a photo of a fun day out on the water of my dad and my wife on a nice trout that they caught the other day oh all right Ridge I know this uh you you burned through your report pretty quick how did you end up today in the last day of the golden fly tournament we actually we caught a couple release fish um we didn’t get that weight fish we sat out for a little while and didn’t get the weight fish but we caught a couple releases we were four for four for six today had a fun day of fishing great day of charter fishing but of course you know how to ruin a good day of charter fishing and you put tournament in front of it so that’s how that goes that’s right but we had fun man we had a good time all right we’re also showing some pictures of us in the top in the uh the dolphin tournament that we had down at Hawk K this past week we had a great time with the boys from Alta we ended up coming up a little short second place but we had yourself and Dave and Jorge and Josh as part of the team and they did a great job and I was so glad to be with those guys you’re doing a good job son I appreciate everything we’re going to go and take a look at the hot spots from the Florida Keys region he says that um corking in the mud and on the edges of the channels use a jig head a jig head on a light spinner and then you’ll get some of those big trout that we showed you a picture of and then offshore tuna’s on the Rex in the lower Keys region uh anchor up in the current let it sink those baits down and then you might want to start some chumming Ching I didn’t get a chance to talk to him before we went on the air because he didn’t answer his phone you know and then I got busy with everybody here it’s kind of cool though I know it’s all right all right now it’s time to check out some more tournaments going on in the Florida Keys first is the Skippers dolphin tournament where teams compete in kargo for over $50,000 in cash prizes including $20,000 for the first place team with the highest combined weight of three mahim Mahi next we have the 31st Annual Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce dolphin tournament June 7th through the 9th where Anglers contend for over $35,000 in cash prizes and awards then is marathon’s 38th annual Father’s Day dolphin Derby set for June 14th and 15th with cash and prizes awarded to angling teams catching top four heaviest Mahi and last is the University of Miami sports Hall of Fame and Museum celebrity fishing tournament set for June 20th through the 22nd in Isa marada with notable Personalities in attendance cash prizes are on tap for the top three teams catching the highest combined weight of three Mahi for more information on these Keys tournaments and more head to flak keys.com notable faces huh I wonder who it’s going to be you know Bri ridg is fishing all the tarpon tournaments down in the Florida Keys or fly fishing is what they were doing the last three days m and uh you know they had some weather to deal with but I’m really impressed with the numbers he came up short the way this tournament worked is you had to catch a fish over 70 lbs in order to take your release points and add into your total thing he didn’t catch a 70 pounder or bigger he was you know but he had let’s see he was had two fish on Monday and then he had uh uh two fish or four fish today so he had six fish in um in the two days which is pretty good fly fishing it’s pretty good good Murphy what are we going to say about that proud papa you know proud papa I know all right it’s time to troll over to the West Coast and sportfishing.com and Strike Zone [Music] fishing so you know Bri Sirus XM has Pro Staff throughout the whole country but one of the things that I think we’re challenged with in Florida is our uh thunderstorms that we get right so let’s check out one of the Pro Staff and what he has to say let’s do it hey I’m captain Greg Poland based out of Isa Mara Florida we call it the sport fishing capital of the world and I run a 25 Contender Bay Boo so I’m on the water a lot down here in the Florida Keys we have great weather year round and I probably spend 250 days a year or more on the water I run Garmin Electronics with a gxm 54 weather receiver so guys a lot of times here in the Florida key you’ll be close to shore but many times running out in the Everglades or even running offshore you’re going to be out of cell service so having the Sirus XM on the boat just gives you the weather reports everywhere I go in the Florida Keys and the everglaze national park when I’m way deep in the Everglades or way offshore looking at my chart plotter I can see exactly where there is whether it’s coming in and just work around it to get back to shore safely running a small boat there’s no way to put radar on here but with Cirrus XM I have better than that I can see storms way out I can navigate around dangerous issues it pops up with warnings all the time so it it stops me from fishing to look over to see what’s really going on so many times we’re out fishing and we see these storms but uh we don’t really know how big they are so when I see it and I see a lot of lightning bolts pop on the screen or I get the weather warnings I know that you know it’s time to get out of here here and as you’ll see from some of my pictures sometimes uh we’re running in and and navigating around the storms uh you spend enough time on the water if you don’t have the stuff on your boat you’re really missing the boat you know and and also in a I’m in a family oriented business I take Charters out that could be small children older people a little bit of everything so the big thing in a small boat in the tropics is is weather we’re going to have weather but with the Cirrus XM on here I can navigate around that stuff I know my clients feel safe not only we listen to some good music but we can stay out of that bad weather easy having Sirus XM we got everything I mean you like rap you like rock you like talk radio what’s not to love this service gives me total situation awareness to make the right plan you just can’t put a price tag on the peace of mind that sxm weather gives you when you’re out on the water it’s just a no-brainer I use it every day of my life get limited time $300 rebate on the Sirius XM Marine receivers and subscription activation when purchased by June 30th favorite color we’re all in blue real legend shirts I love it yes we are all right it’s looking like a great red white and blue weekend in the alto equipment Southwest west region so let’s find out what Captain Ronnie Houston is catching hi Ronnie hey you know the theme speeches this week’s tuna you know according to Captain Gordy Watson a Lucky Strike fishing charters know he tells me at this time of the year the tuna fishing can be very sporadic but a couple suggestion he’ll tell you is you can really catch them outside 30 miles and typically you want to Target wrecks maybe some Ledges or hard bottom but also look for these fish to be moving in groups and a good way to find that would be looking for Birds and concentrating on bait school but if you’re out grouper fishing or snapper fishing out past 30 you can always put out a flatline with a live bait and use cigar minnows or Herring or even a pin fish now you can catch also catch tuna out deeper a lot of guys like trolling plugs your darker colored plugs and skirts but one of the main Keys is always keeping your eyes out open keeping them open on your way out to the fishing grounds most importantly Birds bait and look for jumping fish but one of the keys to that is always have some live baits ready in your live Bel Live Well a good P bait ready so if you see something like this you’ll be ready to start throwing bait at some of these tuna and I got a prime example of some nice tuna being caught by C 4y Watson looking strike fishing charter next fees is going to be the permit you know calm seas and clean water permit bite is been great according to Captain Gordy Watson and many other captains that I’ve talked about in the last couple weeks these guys are targeting Rex and artificial wreath anywhere from Marco to Fort Myers Beach some guys tell me you can catch fish as close as 5 mil but you can even run out to 30 m you know I always talk about the live crabs even though the fish love the live crab he’s telling me right now make sure you have some shrimp some days these fish are finicky so you have to use a variety of baits crabs and shrimp some days they’ll ate the shrimp and won’t touch the crabs so have a variety or some bright colored bucktails on hand and if the water is clean you also might have to drop your leader size down to 30 lb Flor carbon and couple permits caught recently by Captain Gordy prime example right there the inore fish report you know the red fish figh is improving right now from Goodland South mavilon Key fishing the outer golf Islands but if it’s blowing on the outside and we’ve had a lot of these West Winds concentrate on fishing your middle base fishing oyster bars Deadwood Point wood currents and concentrate seriously in those areas of Deadwood now all these areas it’s best to fish them before the water gets too high when our water gets too high these fish get way in the back so if that happens in the water’s High tumming lies Pils and using cut baits on knocker rigs to keep the bait stationary if you’re throwing artificials on that mid tide Berkeley J Walkers right now in the mullet or pil color seem to be working you can also use gold spoons for The Flash and reaction bite but old school bright colored bucko skiper shrimp is also getting the job done and a fish recently caught while fishing out of Naples a captain Chris mcov so the red fish bites improving last p is going to be the tarpon you know the bites actually all all good all through the region if the weather stays moderate so to the South your passes and out Gulf Ledges on the lower water from lman River to key depths right now from 4 to 10 ft of water mark it to STP fast anywhere from the beach line out to 20 feet and the passes and Bridges at night with good tide movement now best bait of choice have been live crabs hering pilter pinfish or free line door under a court but you can also throw a variety of artificials and guys they’re catching on variety’s artificial swimbaits anywhere from 5 to 8 in and a nice carer release from the last week while Crest lattery guys be safe it’s going to be a lot of boats out the water this weekend make sure of all your safety gear keep everybody safe and enjoy this Memorial Day weekend so Ronnie you’re up north somewhere where are you and you’re pre- fishing we got a time for a question what are you doing so I’m up here on the border of Jacksonville infernity to beach the weather’s been terrible the tides have been high the Northeast winds have blowed the tide in and kept the water High the last couple days I haven’t caught any red fish I’m fishing the elite red fish series solo tour guys are complaining that the fish is no good I haven’t caught any but I’m going to run some old history one of the main things I’m going to do is be patient put down my power Po and try to catch some of these fish it’s been tough but I think if I keep my head in the game I’ll be weighing in the next couple days all right I’m put putting my money on you midnight thank you good report thank you for taking time out of your pre- fishing to give us this report we’re going to go ahead and take a look at the battery tender Southwest hotspots Ron says in Shore trout bull Bay Turtle Bay the West Wall fishing grass and potholes with artificial shrimps paddletails along the with noise making corks is going to catch those guys and then offshore red groupers Wiggins Pass to Red Fish pass and 95 to 105 ft of water using cut bait and live pinish Ronnie’s such a pro yeah he is love Ronnie he been a pro his whole life I know all right there’s nothing like a good tuna frenzy in the star Tron Central West Region so let’s see what we got to do for some black fin action with Captain Jeff Paige who’s also a pro okay yeah hi Jeff hey hey yeah we don’t have the variety of Tunas that they do up in the Panhandle and over on the east coast but we do have that black fin tuna and it’s the best time of year is right now it’s been going on for a few weeks even up to a month and it goes on through Midsummer and a lot of the captains like to get out there real early in the morning and look for bird action look for stuff froing on the top very similar to the Bonita and their bodies are shaped the same the tuna’s a lot better eating of course and it can be anywhere from 90 ft out to 200 ft plus uh most of the time you’re going to see birds you’re going to see action early in the morning or late in the evening now midday Captain Chris Seager says it’s a good idea to keep a flatline ready while you’re bottom fishing cuz a lot of times they’ll come up or you control lips plugs or uh feathers in and around hard bottom areas where you’ve had action before or maybe you’ve seen some bird action again early morning late in the evening and if there’s a shrimp boat around that’s a bonus I’ve got a really good photo tonight of Captain Derek Engle with a really nice colorful black fin that he got deep water jig and Rick I think you got that down 200 F feet plus whoa wow all right what else you got for us offshore staying offshore Ronnie just hit on it permit fishing remains probably the best that the offshore guys have seen in years in the staron Central West Region and some of the fish are in as close as three miles that 3 to 7 Mile artificial wreath and sometimes the schools will have two 300 fish in them they’re up on top they’re happy they’re flashing and uh crabs best bet I heard Ronnie mention shrip uh a lot of the guys over here have been using that upro palpo jig and doing real well with it and the the tip that I’ll give you that they all insist really helps is the new anchor lock mode on all the new modern trolling motors it allows you to jockey around that Reef without having to drop and pull an anchor and position yourself just right to where you can get your baits to those fish Captain will Osborne had some Stellar days last week in that 3 to Five Mile rage off Cortez and that picture tonight is Captain will himself with a full grown permit he caught off Bren and Beach wow that’s a biggie buddy all right let’s go in Shore and sure your favorite fish Rick the silver King tarpon fishing remains probably the most popular game the West Winds have slowed things down but we’ve had some East Winds these last few mornings and that’s allowed for guys to get out there early find the fish happy floating on top where you can get just about any bait or even a fly in them and you’re going to get bit now as the day grinds on you’re going to want to work with the fish get corked baits pinish or thread fins out ahead of the schools and then this being the full moon week you can set up at bag Grand pass gas Barilla pass big pass in Sarasota an egg mon pass to the North or on the bars just outside of the passes and you can dip your crabs before you set up fishing and then you can cork your crabs or freeline them and most of the guys in our region like to cork them with at least 6 to9 fet under the cork to your hook and you’re going to have some really good Tarpon action at night they’ve been using silver mullet and ladyfish around the bridges of new Pass and longbo Pass and I’ve got another full grown one in of Captain Rob Gorda wow big Tarpon he caught last week wow that’s full grown there Paige all right tell me about their red fish you’re bringing it tonight Jack our favorite the red fish we’re back on these high high tides where I think we’re up to a 2.6 this week on the on the tide scale and that means the fish are going to be up on the oyster bars they’re going to be up under the mangroves and guys have been chunking Lady Fish pinish chunks under the bushes on top of the oyster bars we’ve been corking live baits or if you like to throw artificials Rick a lure that you turned me on to that Chrome or bone Juke 100 has been working real good and it’s been that side to side action and you and and it doesn’t dive too deep so you can work it in a foot and a half two foot of water or it’s tough to beat a new Penny gulp shrimp on a quarter oun jig head and my last photo tonight was guys I had on the last set of high tides like this that’s Keith Pope longtime client and friend with a nice red fish he caught and right behind him is Jed azinger Paul’s brother with a hooked up red that I had to go dip that after I took the picture and real quick I just want to let everybody know don’t forget CCA star tournament starts this weekend all right buds super duper report appreciate all your hard work we’re going to go ahead and take a look at the Dair deck hotspots from the Central West Region Captain paage says the tarpon fish the afternoon outgoing Hill Tides with live freelin or cork crabs in and just outside of boa Grand Pass big pass or egg mon for the big full moon poon tides and then offshore amberjacks the bite remains strong with the fish holding on the hard Ledges and the springs and 90 to 150 ft of water off of Venice and North Anamaria all right well we mention it every week but it’s important so make sure you show your support for Florida’s Fisheries with a conserve Florida’s Fisheries license plate funds from the sale of the Red Fish Tag directly support protecting and enhancing Marine Resources habitat restoration water quality and Coastal Environmental Education make sure you get yours now at your local DMV or redfish tag.com I mean it’s pretty it is I want it on my truck all right we have one more region to explore before sending you into the flag waving holiday weekend ahead and that is the fish fit east region with Captain Mike holiday stay hooked and we’ll be right back the Florida Insider Fishing Report is brought to you by Yamaha reliability Starts Here Fenwick feel everything Island lures tournament tackle the igfa every fish every w water every angler since 1939 Sportsman’s adventures with Captain Rick Murphy 30 years of fishing for adventure Berkeley prospec Chrome real Legends available at Bells florida.com and taco marine Master the [Music] catch today’s power pull tip of the week is about the Sportsman guys if you own a big aluminum boat a pontoon boat or even a flat bottom boat this is the pole that you should consider it has the ability to hold up to a 4500lb boat keep in mind it has also a great quiet pump as well as it comes in a matte black finish and an 8ft model the other thing that I love about it is its price point a single pole is only going to cost $1,299 so if you’re considering buying a shallow water anchor you might want to look at the Sportsman’s and remember this the Sportsman’s has all the great features that all of our other power pole anchors have to offer you can simply go to your power pole dealer nearest you or you can go to powerpole tocom and that’s today’s powerpole tip of the week so you know you want lightweight and you want to check out the sports and power pole that’s for sure you don’t want to be without a power pole that’s for sure all right the fish bites East reg and gets a lot of tuna species but Mike holiday is focusing on the ones we can Target consistently with a pretty good bite lately consistency is key Mike so let’s talk about some black fins yeah you know this is the time of year to Target to Target tuna in my region we do get the occasional yellow fin or blue fin tuna bite uh but the boats targeting swordfish um they some sometimes get a big eye down deep the majority of Tunas we see are black fent tuna if you want a elepant the most consistent action is going to come 60 to 80 Mi East to four Pierce in in area off Matel shs known as the pocket or the corner now this has been a a really consistent spring for blackf tun in my region with fish spread out along the 120 foot Reef on out to about 300 ft of water or more uh the black fin bite off push button Hill southeast of Stewart has gotten a lot of pressure but there’s still a few fish going there uh and black funa have large eyes and feed more on top at dawn and dusk in those low light conditions uh so in the middle of the day you want to Target them deep uh and you do that with uh you know with big jigging spoons there’s a lot of ways you can do it um you can slow troll live Pils thread fins or sardines you can put them out on a kite you can pull small red pink or silver feathers way out behind the boat just to cover a lot more water um you can also drift in live Chum with Filter that’s really popular in my region um and then if you’re marking them deep drop a jigging spoon down and you’ll get them that way average black F my region is going to be anywhere from from 10 to 25 lbs I got a photo uh of Ryan pellet he got that nice black fin feed a live pillur at first light in 250 ft of water and then I have another black fin photo from the salty da charter boat out of Port St Lucy they had this nice mixed bag of black funa dolphin and even released a couple of sales they were live baiting this past week in 130 ft of water off H sound now the other thing we got going in our region we’re on the full moon that’s moved the kingfish bite to a nighttime and if you go the fish are chewing there’s been good concentrations of Kings on the luran tower ledge and also stretched out in 90 to 130 ft of water from just north of Jupiter Inlet down south to the Juno Pier there’s also been some big fish off Palm Beach down by Sloan’s curve in like 150 ft of water but the sharks have been really bad down there so if you do fish that you got to get them in quickly or the sharks are going to get them you want to Target them with live sardines bread fins Pils or Gog put them out on a number four wire Stinger rig or a triple hook monofilament Palm Beach rig the bite will get going as the sun goes down and then it’ll go all night once the moon gets out average King Fish in my region is 10 to 25 pounds above yes so um this week’s full moon we have the resident Tarpon feeding at night in big Mud Creek also around Harbor Ridge and in the around the St Lucy Ro locks up in the St Lucy River and around the boy scout camp in the lockah hatchee river those are all Resident fish um they’re showing up in the normal places uh at the same time we have some migrating schools coming out of the keys starting to gather around the inlets as I will with its full moon the inore fish are really focused on mullet so a live or dead mullet on 60lb fluorocarbon liter and a 70 circle hook that’ll get you the bite you can also throw 4in sea shads at the rolling fish and around the inlets the Fisher eating a mullet or a thread fin drifted out the inlet on the outgoing tide average Tarpon 40 to 90 pounds I got a photo that Rufus Wakeman sent me of a tarpet he caught in the Indian River up around the power plant and that fish ate a soft plastic jig the other bite is a snook bite we got a weak left of snook season the fish are starting to move towards the inlets they’ll they’ll move in there into the inlets on the next new moon on the new moon in June so they’re not quite to the inlets yet a lot of fish are on the move this is a good time to work seaw walls and shorelines at dawn and dusk with anything that looks like a mullet around the inlets a live thread fin or a pil or Coker those are going to be a baits but you can also throw a copper juice or gry ghost colored saltwater assassin 4 in seashed and pick up some nice fish and then at night the Jensen Beach Causeway North Bridge and Fort Pierce and the Lantana bridge are all producing snook on live Mullen on live mullet and on the windy nights saltwater assassin emis shads on a 1 to 2 oun jig head average snook in my region 6 to 15 pounds I got a photo uh Captain Sam Zak Captain Ed Zak son sent me this shot of a Snook by his sister Emma Cott uh they were Scouting For an upcoming trip and that fish ate a live mullet yeah man those are some beautiful kids all right but we do got to talk about bass so what do we got this week yeah you know the water levels have dropped on Lake aobi that’s helping concentrates the fish in areas like kings bar observation shs and the mouth of the hary pond canal with this full moon the school fish will be working the outside edges of the shs I was talking to Captain Nathan shell okobe Bass fishing.com he’s saying to look for diving birds to find the schooling fish once you do throw top water plugs uh bass assassin split tail shads white spinner blade baates or Chrome lipless plugs and then as that bite shuts down around 7:30 or so it’s time to look for any vegetation floating mats anything that you can find floating work a logger toad shatter bait or a wacky rig fast assassin fat job live shiners are getting a larger fish but you got to move around a lot with that Shiner bik it’s a 10 to 20 fish morning on okobe with fish up to 7 lbs right now all right Mike thank you so much we’re going to go ahead and take a look at the hotpots from the th Marine hotspots from the east region Mike says a tarpon in Mud Creek early in the morning on live uh mullet live crab saltwater assassin Houdini colored foreign seash shads and then offshore sailfish King Fish black fin Tunas 100 to 130 ft of water off of the ran Tower ledge kite fish with live pilter sardines or thread fins so I got a qu I got want to tell you something you know all you hear about all the guys talking about the big moon Tides yeah here’s a good thing here’s a bad thing if you’ve got fish in your Inlet You’ got Tarpon you got snook you’ve got fish around the good news is they’re there the bad news is the big tide could potentially move them to another place so when you hear guys talking about big tide it can be a good thing or a bad thing keep in mind that if you don’t have fish guess what the calvary’s coming because the big Tides will bring in new fish too that was a good tip right yeah man all right well we’re almost finished here on the Florida Insider Fishing report and it’s time for you to go and get ready for your Memorial Day weekend to anifest and maybe brush up on your navigational rules but stay with us and we’ll tell you what to look forward to next week on the bo inside we’ll be right back all right well next week we here talking trout so make sure you tune in but you know what we talked about the fish bites Shoreline Showdown and Dave you were just at that tournament up in Destin this weekend so let don’t you give us a quick little rund yes they did a really good thing you know it was really bad weather on Saturday so they changed it to Sunday which was really great because Saturday was really really bad I woke up on Saturday morning to thunder and lightning and you know 20 mph winds blowing into your face giant waves giant waves so they made it on Sunday it dawned a beautiful day the the seed was still a little rough but there was a lot of fish in it and they had a really good tournament 150 some odd people I didn’t do that great but that’s all right all right happy Memorial Day weekend be safe and we’ll see you next week good [Applause]

I miss seeing all the fishing shows andthe Florida fishing report!!! I live in Tallahassee and have been watching ever since the first show. Comcast and Bally Sports could not come to agreement I guess. It sucks that all the fishing shows I watch were on that one channel!!!
