a major championship hole in one it doesn’t get much better than that for major champion and LPGA mom Sophia Popoff from 205 just about perfect after 18 holes here in Pennsylvania one thing is for certain Lancaster Country Club is quite the major test I’m hope Barnett and you’re watching LPGA now let’s get into it searching for her first major title Andrea Lee finished at one under which is just tied for second yeah I mean it’s playing pretty long um and you know the fairways are tight the rough is really juicy and thick out there um and the greens for sure are very undulated they’re very quick um very firm and so basically it just tests every single aspect of your game um so yeah it’s it’s definitely a a challenge and there’s one hole in particular to sum up how hard it was playing and that’s the par 312 that hole was gobbling players up on Thursday Timber 30s 77 pars 24 bogeys 32 doubles and 13 triple Bogies or worse and one of those 13 triple bogeys or Worse was Nelly Corda making a 10 on a par three will definitely not do any good at a US Open so uh started off really poorly but um played pretty well in the back nine um but overall yeah just bad day in the office but you never know what Nelly might do on day two it was yuk Sasso the 2021 US Women’s Open champ that topped the leaderboard on Thursday the golf course is uh very difficult and the conditions are very tough especially with the wind when it you know swirling and when it’s blowing 15 mes hour with the you know firm greens and fast greens um so yeah I think just stay focused and you know trust the process that I’ve been doing and have just fun have fun out there well no one has been putting like Yuka saso has been today number one in Strokes gain putting Yuka had five birdies which was tied for the most during round one and one of the great things about major championships is seeing players from every corner of the sport and I’ll tell you who showed up to play the AMS there are four amers within two of the leag in the field and a USGA champion from a couple of weeks ago asterisk tally go ahead and watch out because 22 champ M Lee is lurking at two back going to get away with it okay it’s actually going to work out very well indeed how about that with the leaderboard like we have here at the US Women’s Open there is so much up in the air so be sure to tune in to watch the second round on peacock and USA and come back right here to watch LPGA now [Music]
