“If you want to find success in your game, one of the easiest ways to do it is to minimalize the number of molds in your bag.” -Robbie C …and alot of other folks. Finding the right disc can be a HUGE bonus when you play alot, but I think mold minimalization has its weaknesses. In discussions with ams and the Birdie Fam I wanted to make a video readdressing an important bag building concept. So what do I think about mold minimalization now?? You’ll have to watch to find out!!

what is up YouTube fam Robbie C here today we are at the University of monal and we guys I just I mean I said in the thumbnail I was wrong and I want to talk about why I was wrong and kind of explain it a little bit so mold minimalization I may have overreached before we dive in have to ask Colin how are you doing today are you having a good one [Music] all right so let’s talk mold minimalization what is mold minimalization and then I have a little experiment that I’m wed to run out here for you guys just to see why I’m wrong why I believe what I did so mold minimalization is the idea that when you look at your bag you have a grid right here we’ll say like a blank grid uh and this grid you fill up with your disc we can do this on dis RPM my disc bag all that and so there’s a whole bunch of little dots there so I got to just fill it in we have this grid and on the grid mold minimalization is the idea that we have a mold in disc golf such as the buzz the buzz is a phenomenal disc right probably the most popular mid-range of all time so we have the buzz and the buzz takes up a spot here on the chart now if you are not a mold minimalist the other spots that you’re going to fill on the chart are going to be like a buzzos or a wasp and then you’re going to throw a makeo 3 in and then a dune and all these different molds start feeling while each each mold is going to feel different in your hand it’s going to be a different shape if you’re new to disc golf these different shapes mean that the disc is going to fly differently so the mold minimalist wants the hand field to feel the exact same and so they want the same mold to fill multiple spots on that chart so they’re going to have a straight Buzz they’re going to have an overstable Buzz they’re going to have an understable buzz and while it’s the same mold it’s going to fly drastically different the reason for this is that there is subconscious confidence is what we’ve kind of labeled here on the robc channel and in the back things like that there is a subconscious confidence to your hand gripping a disc and knowing this feels comfortable this is what I’m used to and the more subconscious confidence we can find in our game the easier it’s going to be to score but subconscious confidence can backfire for a lot of people when things start to overlap I have been someone who in the past has certainly said even if if you go back to the Crave and Servo video versus passions and stalkers that we did last week I feel most confident personally when I have mold minimalized in my bag and there’s a couple reasons for that that I want to explain and to demonstrate the idea of why I think mold minimalization can fail let’s start there with what we’ve brought here to the course today so where you hear mold minimalization talked about the most is with Pro bags where I first encountered this was watching a pro in the bag from ineva and they got to their distance driver slots and I thought about my distance driver slots when I was watching at the time and I had a wraith I had a boss I had a destroyer I had a shrike I had all of these different molds in the back so I had four distance drivers but they also all did vastly different things or at least in my mind I kind of thought that they did different things and then I watched this Pro in the bag and they were like oh yeah by the way I bag five destroyers I’ve got this flippy destroyer and then the next step up is this stab Destroyer things like that I have today brought four discs to mold minimalize I brought a buzz this is a zbzz from the 5-year anniversary uh subscription box I bought this zbzz also a zbzz but this is a little older this is the only Buzz that I own for a long time and then over time being a disl content creator I’ve acquired a few more so I have this zbzz I have this ESP Buzz with a tour life stamp on it that is the same weight as the black zbzz from the foundation subscription box and then I have this color glow shifting UV buzz from Foundation uh and this is a CT Photon uh color shift Buzz that exists so this is the base plastic version premium plastic premium plastic seasoned premium plastic so you are a newer player getting into the game and you go watch a pro in the bag even if you don’t watch a pro in the bag you watch like a Schmucks in the bag like mine that popped up right here uh a couple weeks ago and you’re like hey mold minimalization seems to be the key I hear people talk about that and so I want to succeed and I’m struggling right now so I’m going to be a mold minimalist so you go check your shelf and you go check the boxes and you go to a local store and you’re like that’s it I’m a mold minimalize so I’m I’m a buzz guy I’ve been throwing this buzz and I love it and it flies really well for me so what am I going to do I’m going to go to the store and I’m going to buy three more buzzes and therefore I’m just going to lean into it and I’m a b I’m a buzz guy I mold minimalized and Mr YouTube man told me that if I mold minimalize I’m going to be a better player so that’s what you’ve done you stepped into it as a newer player and you’ve done exactly what people said to do you got rid of excess molds in your bag and you just put a bunch of one mold in there but then you’re not finding the success I’m going show you exactly why so I’ve got seasoned Buzz that I have had in my bag for a little I’ve actually never bagged this uh the only Buzz that ever made my bag was an ESP Buzz uh and I lost it we go we grab this Buzz right here and we’re like all right this is my Baseline this is the that made me love buzzes and I’m going to mold minimalize so here we go so I’ve got this Buzz right here let’s see what it does I really wish I could say that I did that for Comic purposes but I didn’t that’s like a classic case of the Mondays let’s try that again okay just like that camera magic minutes later to me but seconds later to you let’s try this again shall we okay so instead of hitting it well like we did last time we got nervous and we backed off of a little bit so here we go 5year anniversary Buzz now I threw that one and I’m like okay well I didn’t hit it great it flew straight it still faded out sick but this Buzz is going to fly differently because you know that’s the whole point of mold minimalization is that I’m going to have different discs that do different things it’s the same mold so my hand feels comfortable with it but it’s going to fly differently interesting for flying differently it landed eerily close to the other one but this is ESP so those were both Z and everyone tells me the Z plastic is more over stable so ESP plastic this is going to be straighter than the other two for sure for sure for sure well I realized I swooped and I threw that a little more nose up but that’s odd cuz that seemed to fly more over stable no that’s fine this is base plastic and everyone knows I mean everyone knows base plastic flippy as plastic out there I’m probably going to have to put this on some heer cuz since I’m a mold minimalize it’s going to flip over it will if I commit and I lock in one more redo well that’s weird because for base plastic it still seemed to fade at the end Maybe this your YouTube man was just wrong cuz I mold minimalized but none of this is working we threw all four buzzes and other than the one that we threw more nose up than the others the flight wasn’t eerily different in fact it seemed like we probably got a hold of the CT Photon the Baseline one more so than we got a hold of the other ones and it was perfectly between the beaten one and the new Z held a little straighter but ended up pretty much in the same spot mold minimalization just simply must not be true because the whole idea is that it’s going to give me different flights that I’m going to find confidence and being able to have different options but I didn’t have different options there they all flew the exact same and that is because mold minimalization was never designed to be something that you did in mass or that you did Fast in order to understand the heart of mold minimalization we have to understand the idea of what it means to beat in a disc now when we say beat in a disc we don’t mean that you’re taking this disc right here and you’re just like destroying public property with it or even standing on top of a t box and just like whack whack whack you can season in a disc a multitude of ways some of them artificially done others you know over natural wear and tear and I’ll let you debate on the legality of either of them according to the PDGA but but like I said this Buzz is the oldest Buzz that I own but just because it’s old doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily seasoned sure it has like a couple Nicks and things like that and even if you look at the top it definitely has some natural like quote wear to it and I usually just keep this around for if friends want to try a challenge of like oh we want to do like disc Craft only or if I’m going to say that I’m a disc off YouTuber probably need to have at least a buzz in my collection when you beat in a disc that means that has been thrown enough times and that can change based on how much power you threw it with what courses you played it with did you played it a course that had a lot of trees to hit things like that such as this normally I am taking the forehand out and around all these trees to the basket that’s down to the right but because we have buzzes I’m not going to try to forehand these buzzes I’m going to take them up the middle which means that I’m now bringing all of these trees into play rather than dodging all of them going out and around that means there’s a higher chance that I’m going to hit a tree which every time because these are plastic that they hit the ground even if it’s soft grass there is quote a little bit of seasoning happening to them and if we hit a full tree full power we’re definitely seasoning them in okay so we hit that one a lot better and you could see it just held super straight the whole time the buzz flight numbers 55 -1 1 so that flight right there showcased exact L what a 55 -11 should do I would say that’s exactly what a buzz advertises itself to be now that one we didn’t hit as well and it faded out so there we’ve seen two different flights out of a buzz but they have about the same level of wear and tear because I threw that I’ve thrown that buzz probably four times and I’ve thrown the other one more than that so this one this is its second time ever being thrown okay now see this is fascinating because I threw it into a headwind there is a firm headwind coming over here and that’s now the second time that I’ve thrown that ESP buzz and it’s fading it’s fading a good Mount it’s certainly flying different and that one I actually felt like I hit pretty decently well and it held straight didn’t turn at all so where does this leave us with mold minimalization on the immediate let’s address the first problem mold minimalization done in Mass so we have two throwing examples of me throwing all of these side by side doing this in Mass if I take all of these discs and I put them in my bag and I’m not a player who’s playing a ton let’s say I’m only getting out twice a week which is still my might be more than lots of folks get some of you may only get one round a week so I only get that one round a week and I may be playing with friends what if they don’t allow Two Shots off the team well now even if I threw a different one of these every single time I only get to see those throughout four holes and that’s if there are four holes that actually ask for a flat Buzz shot just trying to see what’s going to happen which if you’re playing a course that lets you four holes in a row throw just a flat Buzz shot it’s probably not the most entertaining course to play in the world which I can understand probably why you don’t go out there and play that much the second hole the one that we played here on video didn’t even really ask for a flat Buzz shot you just kind of have to make a flat Buzz shot work and at it’s like 230 something feet so I’m not even trying to yam on these full power to get the buzz here so if I do these in mass and I don’t find myself out of the field the hard part is is that I’m rarely going to see the differences between these and that’s not only going to remove Mo confidence it’s going to muddy the waters and add a lack of confidence because I’m going to be asking when I step up to every hole okay well it fades well I know that based on what I’ve seen so far these three all fade but sometimes this one Fades more than the black one and then the pink one okay what if it doesn’t fade as much then I’m between these two or sometimes if I put this on too much hydr the CT Photon one’s going to fade you’re just going to end up in a struggle and you’re not going to have time to learn the discs properly because you’ve added so many new variables to your bag that can actually detract so mold minimalization in Mass never a good idea so we’re going to throw these buzzes again and let’s talk about doing mold minimalization fast so I’m in a hurry I have come out and I want to mold minimalize but I’ve got a tournament in two weeks so I’ve got to dial this in I’ve got to make sure that I know exactly what these are doing and I want to get comfortable with them so I’m going to throw them and I’m going to try to artificially season them in over like that short period of time and so I’m going to go play a bunch of wooded courses I’m going to hit a bunch of trees with these discs I’m going to go and let’s say try to I’ll put some in the dryer and shape them up that way just so I can try to create as many different shots as I want in a short amount of time I mean I really do like that blue one just how dead straight that is what I’m seeing amongst these three buzzes is that the blue one is by far the most straight okay that’s fascinating right we’re already seeing over a couple throws that I’m getting these a little more dialed because now our stable one faded about 3 or 4 feet left of our straight one see how the Baseline does not that great if we don’t hit it with any power it faded the most but it got hit the worst and it landed on some rocks so now it’s going to be season dead but what if I really like trying to season in really fast how was that bad for mold mineralization the player who succeeds the most in dis golf is the player who is most confident and consistent you can have confidence but if you don’t have consistency then you’re not going to be able to get get out there and score as much as you would want to I can be super confident in my ability to hit a line but if I’m not consistent in my ability to hit that confidence doesn’t get me Strokes on the scorecard this is why we practice putting as much as we do is because it builds consistency in that stroke and when things aren’t going well we can fall back on that consistency and find confidence in that we’ve practiced now let’s carry that over to the other side where it’s consistency exists but I don’t have the confidence and that is where people who shift their bag around a whole lot and they don’t throw a ton of shots can truly find inconsistency in what they’re looking for because they just don’t have confidence and when I don’t have confidence my body is going to tense up or change or however I’m going to adjust because I don’t have the confidence which is going to make the consistency even harder to find to me a great example of this is if I think about my own bag and I think about pigs precious child is what I call my beat in super super understable Pig and why I have confidence is is because when I first discovered pigs back in late 2020 early 2021 I decided I want to throw pigs and so who did I knew that threw a lot of pigs Ricky Yaki so I went and bought two 2020 Tour series Ricky pigs those were the ones that had a tank on them I lost that one went to put another Pig in my bag I put a seafoam bluish green pig in my bag with a tank Pig and you guessed it guys that’s the same Pig that is now precious child that disc has been with me for over three three years in my bag so would you say that I have a lot of confidence when I throw that disc for sure in fact I’d argue that I’ve probably thrown that specific Pig more than some people who have been playing the disc golf game for less than six months have thrown shots in their Collective career I have a ton of confidence in that pig but here’s the issue is that that pig does not fly like a pig and disc golf when it comes to building your bag it is a relationship of trust between you and the disc when you throw that disc consistently or when you throw that disc often do you trust that that disc is going to do what it says it’s going to do and even if it doesn’t fly anything like the flight numbers because we all know flight numbers can be a little bogus sometimes when you throw that specific disc does it fly how you want it to fly if you want a disc that when thrown on Heiser stands up and rides straight and then falls down have you found a disc that every time you need that shot when you throw it it does that if you throw it well if the answer is yes then that disc probably is good and should go in the back that’s what pigs do for me but the thing about plastic and as you’ve seen even throughout this video as I’m throwing the disc more I’m getting more comfortable with them how I throw it is going to adjust a little bit and I have to ask this all important question which is pivotal to mold minimalization do I trust this disc that is the question because when a when the answer to that question becomes maybe I should start looking at some different factors but if the answer becomes maybe for that I have to ask am I not trusting it because I’m asking it to do something that it no longer does or am I not trusting it because I cannot reliably execute any shots with this disc we have to understand that a disc in the cycle of its life being in your bag is going to shift on where it belongs that is the heart of mold minimalization precious child does not fly anything remotely close to a pig but I have extreme confidence in that disc and so therefore it doesn’t hold a slot in my bag that a traditional Pig would there’s another Pig on the other end of spectrum that does fly like a pig but then I find that when I use those for a little bit they season in to be a little straighter but I kind of like that shot as well and I trust that disc to do that shot and therefore once it starts getting too Flippy and it’s too straight or too much turnover to no longer hold that slot then it’s Crossing into Precious Child territory and I have to ask do I trust that disc do I need that disc well no cuz I have precious child but that brings us to cycling now a quick caveat that I’m going to add before we talk about cycling real fast is that when you beat in a disc something you do have to be careful of is asking the question how far can a mold stretch if you’re going to dive down mold minimalization you can’t take a firebird and expect that if we chew up and beat in a Firebird enough that one day that Firebird is going to fly like a Rolo without destroying the rim destroying the plastic things like that there comes a point where no matter how seasoned in a disc is this is its range and that is kind of where cycling is going to come in is to Showcase what is the range of that disc Now cycling is where we’re going to take one mold and we’re going to have it in our bag and we’re going to throw it enough that it beats in to have a different flight pattern and cycling then becomes rather than just beating in a disc where I take that spot that now this has shifted because it flies differently and I put in a new version of that same mold so now I have two of that mold in my bag and I continue to throw them well now this beat end one Seasons even more so it shifts down a slot and the one that was new it shifts in boom I’ve cycled you notice that that’s going to happen over time this isn’t something that like oh you know I put the uh I put the new fd2 in my bag from dmania and I threw it for a week and then suddenly it got super flippy so then I put in a new one and they just last about a week long and that’s what’s that’s what happens that should not be the case because there’s a three-fold factor when it comes to cycling in terms of you if you have all three of these happening then you’re going to season in disc and be able to cycle a lot faster but here’s our power Trio the power Trio is this one you throw super powerfully you throw super hard if this is the case for most often even if you don’t have the other two simply playing you’re going to be putting so much hit and wear onto the disc that it’s going to season things in faster because like we said every time it hits the ground it’s going to be coming in harder than it might in other cases the second Factor here is how often do you play if you only play once a week even if you throw hard it’s still going to take some time to season in disc especially drivers drivers take the longest to season end out of anything I would say premium plastic takes longer to season end than base plastic base plastic while it seasons in faster isn’t as durable premium plastic when it seasons in and it beats in it’s going to last in that beautiful state much longer and then the third is how often do you hit stuff so if you’re hitting stuff on a regular basis because you’re either not that great at disc golf or you play Super wooded courses that’s also going to season things in faster now any combination of these two is going to make a disc season in faster if you have all three you’re going to be in the prime spot to become someone who Cycles a lot of molds especially if you find one that you love so let’s say for instance that you throw really hard but you don’t play that often but you do hit a lot of stuff you’re going to season in things pretty fast cuz you’re going to hear a lot of loud like wow and that’s going to season it as fast let’s say you don’t throw that hard but you play a lot and you hit a lot of stuff all right fantastic that’s totally fine because if you’re doing that then you’re also going to be seasoning in things fast because you’re going to be hitting a lot of trees it’s still going to take a little time for those faster discs for those premium discs but you’re still going to be cycling faster than someone who doesn’t have two of the three and then also obviously if you throw really hard and you play often such as the pro tour this is a great example of folks who are the top top players in our sport Ezra ader hole Brody Smith like those are names that come to mind is I think of people who are playing a lot of like Pro rounds and I realize I said those and you’re all like I hear the comments already oh you’re a homer because you’re a foundation guy and you’re going to name those two like those AR at the top but like let’s we can throw Calvin in the mix too how’s that sound but Brody and Ezra are filming content on a regular basis so even if they’re they’re playing just as many rounds on the pro tour as the other players are right like they’re still playing a lot but then they’re also filming content rounds they’re going to throw multiple shots they’re going to hit a bunch of trees all of that’s going to happen while they’re throwing and they’re seasoning in their discs it’s going to happen even faster than if I played the exact same amount of times as Ezra aderhold did he would still season it is faster than me because he throws harder than me even if I hit more objects he’s probably still going to season in things faster let’s wrap this up cuz we’ve been we’ve been on for a while and I I want to I want to I want to add this caveat if you’re a new player you’re not super familiar you probably don’t have the consistency in your game to really be able to tell the difference between how certain discs are flying cuz lots of them probably fly very similar for you mold minimalization may not be the right fit for you because you need to find and test out a good bit of molds to find which ones really suit you rather than just being like yeah I throw the buzz because it’s the first mid-range that I found and because of that I’m just a buzz guy if you’re someone that you don’t get to play that often I’m going to say mold minimalization probably also not for you it’s going to take you so long to season in a disc if someone hands me a brand new disc most often I’m going to throw it and I I’m going to throw it not only for one round I’m going to throw it for several rounds let’s throw this shot and I’ll tell you like a little rule of film when it comes to when should a disc make it in or out we got nervous there we threw that one soft let’s say I play a one dis round with a disc that’s 18 consecutive t- shots that I’m probably also trying to throw on a multitude of angles to make the course work I still don’t think a one dis round is enough shots with that one disc to tell like hey does this mold actually work for me does it not work for me things like that I just can’t get these enough height and then third and this one’s going to sound the weirdest but I firmly believe if if you are a gyro lover mold minimalization is probably not for you they build their discs extremely well not that other companies don’t like I’m not trying to say this doesn’t but because of the double injection to get that gyro Rim it takes so much longer for a gyro disc to beat in that I know people who have had the same gyro disc in their bag for two or three years and it flies exactly the same after two or three years now I will say this if you are a person that plays a lot and you play a lot of tournaments I think mold minimalization is definitely something you should consider when you’re out there and you’re throwing shots after shot after shot mold minimalization inherently requires cycling and when I’m cycling discs and I’m building up those seasoned backups and things like that so I’m not going to lie to you when I first started making this video I was like oh baby we’re going to have a 10-min and I think we’re probably over 22 or 23 minutes at this point so that’s my bad guys I just get I I’m really really passionate about this because I know for me personally I have never felt more confident than when I’m seasoning in a disc and y’all I’ve been trying some mold minimalization and honestly not fully listening to my own advice in this video and I can see where that’s starting to bite me I’m excited to see how it lands how it settles and we’ll give an update when we’re doing our next uh we’ll do like a little mini change in the bag uh the next time they would do a keep 1000 so hope you guys enjoyed this let me know in the comments if this makes any sense or if I sound totally ludicrous and even I’m down to say it even if I sound a little hypocritical about this because I’m sure that in my head this all make sense but on the outside it may not so please let me know what you guys think in the meantime want say thank you for watching thank you so much for tuning in hope you have an amazing rest of your day please make it fantastic for someone else too but for now we’re going to leave you with the birdie [Music] n 1. This is a great thing about being part of the Birdie fam, none of this was a surprise. We discuss topics like this all the time, I know MVP taking forever to season is always a hot topic there.

  2. First off, absolutely love the shirt. Second as a 49 yo guy who started playing 8 months ago I truly appreciate your content and sharing of knowledge. Keep on keeping on bud!

  3. I used to be a mold maximalist because i was nee and loved throwing new discs everytime i bought new ones. But once i started realizing that i only reached for a few mold every time i went out to the course, i decided that i was only going to bag those molds. Then i started experimenting with different plastics and weights and methods for beating in a disc and figured out how to have the same mold for different shots. Now i only bag eight molds with 20 discs total in my bag. I love you disc golf

  4. Trilogy is the only company that does it right in my opinion. You get a brand new disc in ice or x plastic and it will be more overstable than regular premium plastics. You can get a disc in air plastic and it will be flippy. If you can get one disc in all 3 plastics you’d prob have all your shots covered. Currently bagging emac judges in base and lucid ice, rivers in gold and opto ice orbit, and swords in vip and vipx. All the special plastics are overstable as advertised.

  5. I am shot minimalizing. Each shot I am confident in hitting has a shape and a distance. And each shot has a disc tied to it. This simplifies shot selection for me 😀 I do like to carry 2 of a disc to cover e.g. a newer overstable fairway driver and a beat in one to cover small but different finishes to the flight.

  6. I love your passionate videos, I find that in my bag I tend to use mold minimalism with one or two molds, and usually a fairway and a distance driver, in base and premium plastics. With the multitude of mids and approach disc I find it is so much easier to bag a stable , over stable and under stable disc for example,Meteor, Mako3, E-mac Truth, Wasp.

  7. In most cases here you should be saying minimized, not minimalized. I dont care, no one else cares, I'm pointing it out since you speak a lot for a living and you might care about how you sound in general. Cheers Robbie. Love ya

  8. I carry about 17 throwing discs, I will build a bag for the course I'm playing & conditions, which usually means I'm subbing in a couple overstable molds, one driver, and one fairway. Most courses in my area (Nashville, good seeing you at MCO) just don't require big shots. It's important to do field work so you can stay familiar with those molds that you sub in every so often

  9. Took a year for my Lizottl Hex to finally straighten out, when it did I bought a Neutron Reactor, love em both. MVP beats in very slowly especially when your are used to Trilogy.

  10. Mold minimalization is a natural process that one can stumble into after awhile of playing; there's no good way to just decide to minimalize. It's taken me 4 years to get to a point where I'm bagging multiples of certain discs. I'm convinced it's just time plus inconsistency that allows for mold minimalization. My Tournament Orbit Bear has hit a zillion trees already and is my "one-disc round" disc, so I keep a fresh VIP Ice one in the bag when I need one that's still reliably stable. Can't do that easily out of the box-you need the time.

And Swords? I bag 3 because from plastic to plastic they're legit different discs, and beat in a stock VIP run to an inch of its life and they'll get roller-disc flippy for you. I've stockpiled some of the Stinchcomb runs because they're reliably stable and no stock VIP run flies like the Tournament-X or even VIP-X ones do. Can't do that with consistent production-have to have that inconsistency (good news for you Innova and Trilogy throwers!)

Like, if you're an MVP/Axiom thrower, don't bother mold minimalizing because it'll take you a good while to beat in a disc and there's not enough inconsistency to allow you to grab 3 versions of the same mold and see differences in flight. It took me 2-3 years to beat the fade out of my Reactor, and after 4 years it now flies like a Hex but more reliable. As another example, I literally have a dozen Volts on my shelf from different 2020-2023 runs in all the plastics, some domey, some flat. They fly identically and I've since replaced that slot with the Bear.

And I think Paul McBeth is onto something with the idea of keeping current-run stock discs in his bag so if he loses one he can just grab another one and get similar flight.

  11. My purpose for minimal is disc selection. When I get to a shot I end up picking the same 5-6 discs because of comfort with those discs that others are starting to not get thrown but sit in the bag.

  12. I have to say it is refreshing to see someone rethrow bad shots. It is so lame watching a video teaching a point and just being like, that’s was a bad throw, oh well you know what I was trying to do

  13. I would MUCH rather buy a disc out of the box that flies how I want it to than perfectly beat in a disc. Worst case I throw it off some cement or a rock and it gets too understable, well time to just go get another one. Mold minimization is great if you absolutely know the discs you want to throw now and forever…I myself will be throwing craves for a long time and have a bunch of them…but the whole bag doesn’t need to be locked in like that.

  14. I am doing FANTASTIC Robbie! Not only did I get to hear my name at the beginning of the video but you also had my bag on screen 😮. Made my day man for real. Appreciate the video. Always appreciate hearing you talk about something you’re passionate about like this

  15. Good informative video. When I heard about mold minimization, I did not make the type of mistake you worried about. I wouldn’t think most others would either, but can imagine a few newbies could.

  16. I tried to mold minimalize for a while but I just don't get out to play enough. I did find that there are molds that I am able to do it with via plastic or weight change and it does work despite not wearing them in.

  17. Mold minialization only makes sense for drivers. It doesn't really apply to mids and putters.

  18. If you throw backhand and forehand with confidence this is a lot easier to do. Mold minimalism works best if you are versatile. If you throw only one way you need a lot more discs to deal with the situation you'd use the opposite spin shot.

  19. I’ve found that mold minimalism makes for a more “efficient” game, but not as objectively fun. More discs = more fun!

  20. For me, finding my “stock shots” is what helped me scale down on different molds. Once a disc starts to have a different flight I keep it in the bag because I’ve built a relationship and trust in it. Periodically I’ll test it again a fresher version and test in different winds. If the disc that’s seasoning in doesn’t turn over in ahead wind it stays in the bag solo. I’ve found myself bagging less discs in general and doubling up one my main “stock shot” molds with one being a headwind disc and one being a tailwind disc. The bulk of overlap is in no wind situation and I just decide if I want the disc to land falling forward or fading.

I’m a casual/rec player, 29, shoe size 13, favorite color is purple and I wear corrective lenses. I’m throwing 1-2 full rounds a week consistently throwing 350, touching 400 in the right wind.

  21. If im in a tournament i usually will try to keep fewer molds in my bag just the ones i like the feel of best but olaying with friends absolutely not i throw random new discs in the bag every time i go play for fun because it allows me to try discs and lines that i would never throw in a tournament

  22. I’m a huge advocate for minimal molds, the feel in the hand is so important to me and was especially important as a new player

  23. I have 3 Innova Beasts…
Champion – Throws flat, goes 300-330ft, straight with a fade, fairly reliable.
Glow – Throws Hyzer, Flips to just beyond flat, Goes 330ft… flies straight to the right & fades back, not as reliable, prone to wrong Hyzer turnover
DX – Throws deep Hyzer to under stable right, Goes forever if it gets a little high and disappears off to the right somewhere turning away from light headwinds… really unreliable, usually a roller.

All the same mold/weight but the champion plastic is superior in my hand.. the DX feels ligght (and is more beat up than Conor McGregor's sparing partner, and the glow constantly leaves my hand early… so Mold minimalization doesn't particularly work for me but the familiarization does…

For me I think having a Similar mold/plastic (I like/bag similar feeling MVP Tesla, Catalyst, Crave & Wave) is more helpful than the same mold but different 'feel' plastics…

I also use my Tesla for about 6 different lines so use one disk that I know to get 6 disk flights from..
I have no sidearm but the Tesla works., Long fast and it goes straight with an almost "oh heck, I forgot to fade.. lets yeet hard right at the end…"
It does a nice hard turn thrown softly…
It rolls for… ever (I did a 260ft roller 'for no raison' with a 30ft put the other day for a 2-in… Would have been fantastic.. in a live match). (Throw hard on 1pm high)
It lobs over trees to tombstone or roll on depending on ground.
It 'Frisbee Throw' Hyzers in a 30ded arc while facing the target (look through a bush and yeet it out to the side.. just like playing frisbee).
    it flicks through branch aps..
It puts in short distance high winds
And I just found and am playing with a backspin flick at 6pm to get out low then backspin breaks to a halt not far from where it lands… (You can backspin it to the front of the tee, it stops and comes back… yoyo style… neat… useless but neat)
oh and a high Anhyzer that turns back… oh and a soft flex anhyzer to hyzer landing…
and it gives great skip when thrown flat and hard… (Is that 6… I lost count… and I thing there's more… )
