This week we dive into the now Major Champion Xander Schauffele’s WITB to see what helped him win his first major championship. The PGA Champion is a Callaway staff player, but has a couple of clubs from another brand in the bag.

all right welcome back to golf the bex’s winning what’s in the bag it’s a major week that’s right PGA Championship Wild Golf some off thee course stuff just a crazy crazy weekend but it was fun to watch it was super entertaining Great Golf and when the dust all settled Xander Schley with the his first PJ championship trophy so congratulations to him it was great to watch had a fun uh uh you know coming down the stretch a lot of guys in contention totally awesome so let’s take a look at what’s in his bag what helped him win and we started at the top as usual and he’s playing a Callaway Paradigm AI smoke Triple Diamond driver the Triple Diamond Series is typically the lowest launching lowest spinning and the most neutral uh least draw uh driver head uh in the lineup he’s playing a 105 head uh and the hosle is set to NS so that is basically the neutral ey angle there’s also a draw but a neutral L angle and the S is for stated Loft which is 105 on the head now his is actually measured to 10.2 de uh and then it is sh it has two movable weights on the sole the front weight is going to be 7 G the rear weight is 8 G so pretty neutral setup there and it is shafted up with a Mitsubishi diamana PD 70tx uh so the MIT Mitsubishi Dam PD was kind of the lowest launch or the low launch low spin model in the lineup there’s now the Whiteboard as well uh but it’s a very smooth shaft low launch low spin in the 70 G range in the TX Flex it is tipped 1 in before being installed uh and it is built to 452 in to the the end of the grip so that means the shaft is cut just a little bit shorter than 45 1/2 in because the end cap the butt cap of the grip tends to add between a quarter and an eighth of an inch onto the length and he is playing that at a d 1.7 swing weight which is kind of light compared to you know the retail uh swing weight of these drivers and then we move into fairway wood and he’s actually playing a Callaway Paradigm AI smoke Triple Diamond 3-wood Head uh it’s a 15° head on there but it is a little bit bit different as it’s a tour issue head it’s got a bonded hosle the retail version has an adjustable hosle with Callaway’s optifit where you can adjust Loft and lie this one here is just bonded and typically the bonded hustles allow Engineers to take that weight from there and move it elsewhere in the head to kind of have a different performance characteristic not exactly sure what is that uh how it plays differently from the retail model but it is a bonded or glued hosle it’s stated a 15° head but it’s actually measured at 14.4 de of Loft and a 57° li angle this is shafted up with a iishi diamana PD 80tx so the 80 g version uh and the PD again low launch low spin it’s got kind of a it’s kind of a mid softness handle to it and then it has a firm midsection and a firm tip section uh but it is extremely smooth and a very consistent shaft of Mitsubishi we then have that tipped 1 and A2 in before it’s installed into the head and this much like the driver is playing at a d 1.7 swing weight and it is playing 42 1/2 in to the end of the grip so just a little bit shorter than a traditional 3-wood from there he moves on to a utility kind of wood Fairway Wood hybrid it kind is in in between but it is the Callaway Apex UW now this isn’t the brand new one this is the 2021 model uh and it’s a 21 degree head but it’s actually playing at 19.7 De of measured Loft this also comes in at a 57.3 de Li angle so you can kind of see a trend there between all the woods uh and this is shafted up with a Mitsubishi diamana delimited 90 TX now the D limited is kind of a mid plus handle section firm midsection then a mid plus kind of tip section again low launch low spin and DMO lined up and the 9tx seem to be a tour issue only part as it’s not listed on the website is something you and I can go by uh it’s a little firmer profile also than the D+ limited which is a very famous shaft that a lot of players use on tour it’s tipped one and a half inch and playing at 40.75 in to the end of the grip Now we move into irons and he’s actually playing the tour only Callaway TCB irons uh stands for tour cavity back and the previous version was eventually released to retail and you were able to get them this version right now is tour only they have a little shorter blade length blade length from heel to toe and they offer just a little bit lower launch with a little bit higher spin compared to the CB now with these here are the raw finish so they will Rust over time I think you can see a little bit of rust starting to form on Xander tcbs and and he’s playing four through 10 iron or pitching wedge Callaway yes this year decided to go with the 10 on the bottom instead of the P which I personally think is very cool now these he’s playing standard length but 1° flat and for lofts he’s playing this a little bit weaker than normal the four iron is 23.2 de the seven iron is 35.4 De and the 10 iron or pitching wedge is 47.8 so a little bit weaker that can kind of reduce a little bit of offset add a little bounce or just change the the launch parameters and get a little more height a little more spin whatever he needs uh to make sure the ball’s flying the distance he needs it to now these are shafted up with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour issue x100s low launch low spin about 130 G seems like we mentioned these shafts almost every week now for wedges uh he’s got a little bit of a mix set here the first one is the Callaway Jaws raw 52 Dee uh it’s technically stamped S6 which we’re not really sure exactly what that that means but from it when you see the photos uh the little port or dots that are on the bottom of it look to be a little bit more condensed and they’re filled in they don’t have like a uh a cover on them with any color or anything like that they look a little shallower than the traditional retail ones that are available now it’s a 5610s head so the standard uh sole which is a little bit wider has a little bit of trailing Edge relief great for full shots or playing shots Square to the uh Target uh and it maybe has a little bit more rounded Top Line as well I know I’m kind of all over the place with this wedge but it’s kind of a mystery it’s just stamped s six but it is bent 1 Dee week uh and it’s shafted up with a true tempered Dynamic gold X100 shaft the next wedg is here uh his Sand Wedge is going to be a Titleist vogi sm10 and it’s a 5610 s head so again the S uh sole little bit wider kind of similar to Callo a little bit of trailing Edge relief you’re able to open up the face the Leading Edge will come up just a little bit but it’s great for added bounce a little less digging uh in soft condition and great float in the sand uh this one here is also bent 1 Dee weak so it’s going to play 57° and about 11° of Bounce and it shafted up with a True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour issue X100 his lob wedge is also a vogi and it’s a tius vogi sm10 60.4 t grind uh the T grind uh if if you’ve seen it has a ton of heel and toe trailing Edge relief kind of a whole lot of the backside is removed there uh but when you play it Square it actually plays a little more bounc than 4° but allows you to really open up the face without that Leading Edge coming off the ground so you can hit higher lofted shots off tight lies and it allows skilled players like Xander to really manipulate the face around the green and hit the type of shots they desire to hit uh this one again bent one degree week so it’s a 6105 technically uh and it is shafted up with a True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour issue X100 as well now his putter is something a little bit custom it is an odyssey tulon Las Vegas CH Xander Proto it’s a whole long name but it’s a kind of a unique putter so the the tulon Las Vegas kind of looks like the Odyssey number seven the Fang putter uh and this one is very similar to that it’s painted all red uh and it has the CH for crank hosle or a plumbers neck huzzle that comes off out of out of it which adds a little bit of tow hang compared to the double Bend shaft that is normally available uh now there’s a whole bunch of uh different hles you can get with the the number seven but uh this tool on there is a Proto red paint and uh the paint interesting enough goes onto the face so when you look at the mil face which is kind of the tulon uh Diamond Mill uh pattern the paint actually comes over the top line onto the face and from what I assume that’s used for is to control how much of the face that Xander Sees at a dress some players don’t like seeing a lot of face on their Putter and some players do uh and that red paint that carries over may just adjust the amount of face that he sees at at a dress fitting his eye and what he likes to see uh it is actually 342 in to the end of the grip uh it is 71 12° on the lie angle and it’s got 3° of Loft it is gripped with a super stroke zenergy pistol 2.0 and for ball he is playing the Callaway Chrome tour which is the four brand new four-piece ball little bit lower spinning than the Chrome tour x uh but a great ball brand new out and he is playing that and then grip wise on his clubs he is playing the Golf Pride MCC align so the M Golf Pride MCC which again we’ve talked about a bunch of times has a firmer upper hand with the that’s black has cord in it and then a soft uh kind of white material rubber material in the lower hand for more feel and then this has a red line of rubber that runs down the backside that kind of sits in the in the pads of the fingers to kind of remind you of where the the club face is and kind of help players figure out where that club fa face is throughout the swing so that is Xander schley’s winning what’s in the bag from the PGA Championship again a very exciting tournament congratulations to him enjoy this and we’ll see you next week to see what’s in the next winning what’s in the bag

  1. Hey I noticed Ricky Fowler was playing the Aerojet instead of the Dark speed. Thought you might find that interesting

  2. D1.7 SW it’s pretty low with that shaft type length and head weight.
You think he plays a heavy grip or adds weight to the butt end to get that swingweight?

  3. I'm always amused by these WITB articles. I wonder how many golfers go to their local golf shop and buy that "Ninja" driver or wedges thinking they are going to play better or be like (tour pro). Members of the PGA and EPGA tours are the best players in the world. They can play with any make clubs. The Only reason golfers endorse brand "A" over "B" is because they pay more or have a better long term deal. All of the major companies make excellent equipment.

  4. Looks like Xander plays his 52 open a good bit. I'm shocked. I love my MG4 52. It's the highest lofted club in my bag and I almost always play it open.
