Riley was a huge Longshot runaway winner at Colonial but I did see a few people out there tip him including Tambo on this show I don’t know if he ended up betting him outright but I did see he won 20 grand with Davis Riley in his lineup so shout out to tampo shout out to tampo uh yeah I saw a couple touts not not a ton the funny thing is I’d seen a lot of people betting him in the last few weeks even saw him on uh I think like Coley had him on his PGA Championship card at some insane number there’s some like signs of form that would last like around but he never put anything together it’s been pretty rare to win with absolutely no form I don’t know if we’d call that but from a placement standpoint he had no form and you’re forgetting Pat you had second place on both tours I did because we had Peters in uh in Belgium uh so that kind of sucked and nacho he literally was like a foot from going out of bounds I swear I think someone threw the ball back in play but they threw it or it hit a tree and then went into this mud puddle which they let him get a free drop out of ah that was a I was watching a bit but yeah and there could have been a fun playoff there but back to Riley H good for him he was a straight he was a straight wagon I saw our boy Kyle saie tweeted on Saturday night like he showed the Riley statline for the week and it was like all you could bet this guy at plus money up four strokes do it most people were just wanting to bet Scotty so shout out to Kyle if he he stepped in front of Scotty on on Sunday morning which not many people even wanted to do then the second place at Colonial with Keegan was I mean I don’t want to say it’s a big bit misleading but he had no chance of ever winning so I wasn’t too bummed out about that I did get like a little Glimpse when he got to 10 under I like well if he can birdie 18 maybe Riley just you know completely fumbles the bag coming down the stretch does what Grio did on 18 the year before but doesn’t recover for bogy ends up making double I was trying to run all these scenarios through my head just it never happened for Riley he he hit that one bad t-shot Into the Bunker I think on 14 or 15 but he was able to recover really nicely I was just stunned at how poorly Scotty played on Sunday and even for Riley on that hole like he was at a point where Bogies were fine yeah like he could make a Bogi by by the 14th hole like he had a bogey to waste Scotty um Thursday and Sunday just he just didn’t have it was really weird he was off missing Fairways Fairways were hard to hit he got a lot of like there were a lot of horrible lies out there but it felt like every time Scotty was missing the Fairway by a foot his ball would just crater were just crater to the bottom there so Colonial though it’s been a fun little like yeah it’s been a bit of a long shot course right because Grio was last year at 80 and now you’re getting like 200 plus this year and I feel like we hit a lot of fun ones we’ve spoken about in the past there north of 50 one of the better venues obviously they were on the clock Pat with that Rena uh cuz there were some really ugly looking scenes on that course but I still love it and you know it’s like a live Bots wet dream for one of the greatest courses in America to be under repair during a PGA event yeah that’s no fun but I the one thing that really stuck out to me because I didn’t watch much of Thursday or Friday because I was away on a golf trip and my back has not yet recovered which is not great news I I finally got into to see my physiotherapist later tonight so hopefully my back will unlock itself once I go see him uh it’s been just an excruciating three days even sitting up straight is tough right now and never fun when it happens in between the two golf rounds that you’re supposed to play I was like well I already paid for this round give me some muscle relaxers let me hit the course it was not a good or fun Friday round put it that way I’d have been deep into the muscle relaxers I’d have been like I’d have been mixing a lot of things to get me through it a lot of things I had to drive at least four categories I’d have been mixing with I had to drive home for three and a half hours afterwards so so I I I couldn’t get get on get on too much in order to over the course of a four and a half hour around because you can’t let cuss drive that’s never going to work out well I did beat cust on Frid on Friday still though so that was that was glorious for me I suppose I couldn’t hit anything basically I could hit a driver okay because of the big Club face but other than that if it wasn’t a pitching wedge or a sand wedge I couldn’t get like low enough to hit it um um that kind of sucks I golfed on Saturday there was a light rain by the time I got to 18 I stood exactly where Tommy Fleetwood stood a year ago in a light rain on 18 and uh yeah at least I put it in the Fairway you didn’t just miss short right every single time I think I it’s really I am the only person in the country that thinks about it that doesn’t see at least like it is a lovely moment obviously you can see I’m still working my way through to acceptance It’s kind of like everywhere it’s in our face it’s all over the club it’s lovely but I’m a selfish piece of [ __ ] and I just think like what a great [ __ ] I just oh when I think about my Sports close calls you know there’s getting to those AFC title games there’s all those nting Miss kicks there’s Marlin McCree fumbles and there’s Tommy on 18 Tommy on 18 like what a not what a what an Afterparty it would have been what a h and yeah I’m selfish I just wanted the party a one you know well instead we got Nick Taylor winning and then Adam hadwin getting Goldberg speared on the green afterwards it’s a pretty iconic moment for Canadian Gulf maybe worth the tradeoff maybe yeah for sure and my club is part of this Canadian Heritage moment that now people who don’t want to bring the open back in 26 are using against it like it was so perfect let’s just leave it as that moment in time it’s a very compelling case I will tell you I have to give them full marks because they’ve used something that was so perfect and excellent instead of thinking it’s something we could build on and throw the party again even better they’re like we should never throw it was the best party ever why would you ever want to try to do it again so there’s there’s that but yeah great and I used to think we would never see for longtime listeners of our show Pat we used to joke like there’s no way people have no idea what goes on here it’s like a major whenever there’s a Canadian that’s got a half a pulse in terms of the sort of like intensity that we put around it we’re a proud sporting Nation I thought I’d never see a Canadian win especially when VJ tried to literally give it to Mike we and he wouldn’t take it I thought we would never do it now I think well I probably don’t know that I’d bet them I think next year because of what happened last year makes it easier for all the guys yeah the the second time is usually easier than the first time you build up your experience and the pressure is not going to be on it because you’re right every time a Canadian I remember poor David Hearn one year I think played in the final group with Jason day and DJ was right there Abby and just melted down yeah it’s just it’s an intense scene what we you know and it’s broadcasted here like um almost like it is a major and we’re we’re excited for it and that’s why you know when you make reference to this part of the golf schedule being like really intense to a lot of golf fans in many ways this is like their um their breath week but here we have this like intense focus on this tournament I don’t here per se this podcast I just mean like anyone you know golf Canada Affiliated it is it is our national open so it’s a really big deal and it gets major championship level TV coverage here yeah like most things that exist just solely within Canada especially in that area like the Toronto area I know Hamilton’s like an hour south but they can still get their their equipment and crew there pretty easily I remember really liking this course the last time it came around in Hamilton but I did see I mean it was Tim who was on top of this but is it TPC Toronto that has it next year now yes so St George’s membership backed out um that was the first of Rory’s backto back wins lovely lovely facility they backed out and TPC Toronto it’s a three course facility I’ve played the two other courses I’ve actually never played the North Course which will be the championship course it was under total renovation last year uh it’s incredible what’s sort of of happening there in a very short period of time having gotten to play on the property a couple times last year there wasn’t even like a clubhouse up everything was in construction so my buddy was there a week ago he said like it’s it looks great and there’s no Pro like they’ll have everything facilities wise ready in a year um that’s also not really in Toronto yeah I just I just Google mapped it this is nowhere near Toronto yeah like I drive almost an hour to get there which is freaking far at least in my opinion I’m spoiled I have of course 20 minutes from my house so I I when I have to drive an hour to play in Toronto traffic it’s not not fun but it’s close enough I guess but no one from T like that’s a laughable Toronto Association but they’re not going to call it what is it like in Carlton or something yeah it looks like it’s close to Orangeville like it doesn’t seem all that dissimilar in distance than Hamilton does but much harder to get the Monday the Monday quality is um there today so you know for what that’s worth I looked at that field very sure like our boy Sky will be hoping for Peter quest to be getting through but yes so that’ll be hosting next year and to be honest get familiar with that place because I think it’s going if they want to stay around the Toronto region and you know if I really hope it doesn’t happen but I think it’s almost 50/50 if not better than 5050 that that Oakdale is going to bail on 26 they almost might feel some of these people feel in baling if St George bailed well we should bail right maybe golf Canada I don’t can Grease the pot here but uh yeah so this could be a place as they want to just sort of stay in Toronto and some of these private clubs tell them noas I think they could be here a lot so that’s a place that you’ll want to get familiar with when they play it next year because it will not be the final time and obviously it has the TPC Association which is um like great for their branding branding but Hamilton is gorgeous Pat I I believe it’s a harder I would argue a significantly harder Oakdale I haven’t seen it or played it since the renovation but everyone I know who has says it’s just it’s as beautiful as ever it’s as beautiful as ever you’re right it was a great time there Rory went nuclear on a Sunday like feno and JT played great all the stars played like stars that week it was a great it was a great party it was also I think like right around when the Raptors won the championship no you’re the the the JT one that you’re talking about was the St georgees won uh the year with at Hamilton was the year where Rory beat low Rory won by like nine Strokes or something I guess they all blur together yeah the nuclear Sunday everyone was shooting like one under on Sunday Rory shot nine under he yeah he went like Wells Fargo almost so maybe he he’s a short price um he was plane trackers were having him in Italy Pat you know probably with uh probably with someone very beautiful I would think I’m not a CBS host and you know that was some embarrassing golf media but you know they’re afraid of sheffer’s healthy baby but want to want to comment on on uh a rag public I enjoy a rag myself but you know you gota I don’t know what’s I don’t know how they call balls and Strikes I don’t mean the rag I mean these like golf media people I don’t know what how they call balls and Strikes I thought it was interesting and I use the fantasy National app for this is why I people finished the round and all the guys that I bet on did exactly what I needed them to do in the parts of their game where they suck but didn’t do any of the normal things that they do well like I looked at Keegan Bradley he lost Strokes on approach I don’t know how that’s possible but that’s what he did for the week and ended up coming in second that’s the one thing that he normally does really really well hogi was the same thing he drove the ball great he chipped the ball great was like very mediocre with his irons and couldn’t make a putt to save his life and then I looked at Lucas Glover when when I wrote up Lucas Clover it’s like the last two times that he has gained more than one stroke putting for a tournament he won the tournament cuz he’s gained TD green like a substantial amount every single tournament basically since over the past year and a half he gained seven strokes putting and lost Strokes TD green that sucks but I don’t know that feels I don’t know what to make of that that’s the worst I don’t think Peters was great driving this last week either yeah I didn’t did didn’t watch much of the the Belgium open unfortunately did Dri play yeah second year I’ve pulled top Belgian I like dri with a horrible gag job a year ago I hate that tournament um maybe we should stop maybe it’s like the Canadian open maybe we have to stop betting the Belgium players in the Belgium open and I I think it was the week before last year also and I was so disgusted by Bel by detri not being able to beat European tour scrubs that it even emboldened me that no Canadian would have a chance last year um yeah I don’t know this field this year seems a lot weaker than last or am I wrong about that or is it the exact same to you uh I think it’s a little bit weaker although the top end is still pretty good but this is essentially like a signature event for the DP World Tour when you take a look at this field yeah I wasn’t impressed I wasn’t impressed I’m thinking about going over tomorrow I like a good Tuesday but you know the only I don’t know I don’t know that Tom like last year I don’t even think Tommy touched the course on the Tuesday last year so I don’t even know if it’s a worth my time drive all the way down there we’ll see were you surpris I I didn’t realize that they had made the schedule change because the Canadian open had been the week before the US Open why did they move Memorial to next week when Memorial Day is this week yeah I didn’t realize either which allow which caused some funny debates in me um I whatever and personally thinking I was really confused yeah we’ll leave it at that I was really confused because I always expected us I just thought we were the week before the US Open that’s where my head was this uh this is just the elevated events this is a Players Tour and the players who make those decisions they just want to play in clusters and have time off in between so that’s why I think you’re literally seeing elevated events are doesn’t matter now they’re pretty much bordering on one side of a major because the highend want to Cluster their big events or their their times they have to work I don’t know if that’s good or bad for people paying attention because maybe it’s for the players it gets them more Focus they get to Signature event major championship signature event then there’s a little bit of time off and that’s what we’re getting with Memorial the US Open Travelers this year but I don’t know just you might want to spread these out a little bit I think that’d be my take away well I am I am totally in agreement with you and I’ve said it in different ways at different times uh probably not very articulate but it all comes back to the members Association they pretty much made the rules you wish there was just someone that said no this is how it’s going to be this is when you’re going to play in the same way they tell the Chiefs that you’re playing every day but Tuesday next year you know what I mean and you just suck it up because there are things in some ways that are bigger than you or what’s best for us um so that’s one of the many ways where I believe that being I don’t really know how this private Equity new stuff works and who actually makes decisions but in some ways um it would be nice to see the players let go and let people make the decisions that know that make decisions based on just not what’s best for them but what’s best for for fans and um for partners because you’re right I maybe in the end it proves that piggybacking these events are good that having this great major you know it was in some ways they thought it was good we saw what happened after the Master’s Pat essentially when when Scotty wins The Heritage and they don’t even want to bump the time because they just want even if it screws up the whole chance and they have to go to Monday 90 minutes of live golf in their window with Scotty was worth more than anything and I’m not saying that was right or wrong but yeah they made the decision that they want to Cluster and they think that either getting the momentum from the the bigger events helps I would say it causes a bit more fatigue in some ways well golf is going to happen either way so we should probably talk about this year’s Canadian open I’ve already done the research show for Hamilton Golf and Country Club as you mentioned that there is a renovation that was completed in 2022 so not exactly the same of what we saw in 2019 but very similar I think more similar than what we saw at Colonial where like a hole was redone um there was like added bunkers in they added some more trees and restored some trees back in here redid a lot of the bunkers we’re going to have Bentgrass greens um which I think they were POA last time or it was the particular time of year where POA was you know more pronounced than the Ben grass but it does seem like the B grass is more pronounced than the POA this time around and I do think it was a bit deceptive that with Rory winning you think hey bombers course let’s go and that’s not really what the rest of the leaderboard told but I don’t know if that’s because of the strength of the field where it was pretty weak and when you look at the very top of the leaderboard from that year it’s all kind of the guys who I assume would have been the favorites in 2019 but it was a lot of short hitters like it was Rory but after that it was like Webb and Lowry and coocher sniger hadwin sunjay those are all accuracy players and this course in many ways is like a classical positional Golf Course um at least that’s what my memory serves of it I don’t doubt that some of the bigger hitters of today can probably overpower it with great success and any distance changes that they’ve made are probably offset by the distance changes the players themselves are making in many ways that we see weekly um across the board I do I still like in in some ways I’m still shocked how someone like couldn’t simply overpower Oakdale with even a driver last year and I think if you’re able to do that it’s very plausible um it’s very plausible you could but I get why you wouldn’t want to because you’re well you’re not necessarily playing to win that can bring the floor in um that can bring the floor in and you’re just happy to come around play some four days of golf and finish 24th place but I do believe these places could be overpowered with the driver I don’t see how they couldn’t but I’m still shocked Oakdale wasn’t well it was for Rory uh just going back and looking at the numbers like deep diving 2019 a little bit Rory LED in driving distance so yeah of course he overpowered the place he was also sixth in accuracy like if Rory’s doing that he’s unbeatable which we kind of saw yeah and I mean the amount of volume birdie looks Rory gets like even if he misses the seven-footer it doesn’t matter there’s so many more coming when he’s hitting it that far and in the playing it from the Fairway as much as he was at Hamilton last time but even to look like just basically everyone who finished inside the top 20 and accuracy finished top 20 on the leaderboard like hadwin web sunj even liota and remember Hank liota remember his like magical run three years ago for like four tournaments was that three years ago might have been um yeah no there’s there’s a lot there’s a lot that shows this is like could be a very classical technical Golf Course play it from the right spots you can Club down um play it from the Fairway we saw what what go golf Canada um if last year was an indication like they’re interested in they’re willing to set these places up real hard real hard like the rough was insane last year I imagine it’ll probably be very similar this year remember losing like walking around with pendrith and cockroll thr balls in like they literally couldn’t find balls like five feet in front of them so that just and maybe that was golf Canada trying to create a defense mechanism for Oakdale which is you know created for you know old old men maybe but I I think I noticed the same thing at St George’s the year before that if you weren’t on The Fairway it was incredibly penal yeah so that seems to be something golf count is working with and I think golf fans like that and around and that was also like the week before the US Open they’re probably playing into the whole USGA [ __ ] in some ways like yeah let’s let’s it it’s it’s um it’s thick rough rough season so let’s get it granted last year in California wasn’t so much the case and now they’re playing Memorial the next week but yeah I think it’ll um they’ll try to make it as difficult as as possible Precision Golf Course well that’s why Alex norin I guess is you know fourth on a tote board this morning and even when I did the research show that it was just Alex noran’s season and to spoil it I assume that kust listened to the research show and he has selected Alex norren as his oneand done but maybe that’s what Alex noren need needs in order to win finally is cus to be on him I think that’s an excellent suggestion I don’t know who like won last week but part of me when I saw him make that pick I was like C because we play by the rules like we just give cus first pick doesn’t really matter that’s how we play it just in some ways adds to the humor when he’s as bad as he’s been doing this year um I think that’s a great pick I I would tend playing very well and I I I am like not too skip ahead in some ways but I’ve had the fight in my brain this morning and when I say this you could be like you’re just trying to create a lane to bet the players you want to bet you [ __ ] yeah you’re GNA bet Fleetwood and you’re GNA bet norin and you’re gonna bet cam young I assume that’s your entire card just hear me out the lane that I think when I look at this field the lane that I think is appropriate is good desperate players and you just happened to mention three of them I don’t know that I’ll bet all three of them but you happen to have mentioned um three of them good desperate players seemed like they have to be able to take advantage of this field on this golf course credit to Josh Perry uh he doesn’t tweet anymore Pat I don’t even know if he picked Davis Riley this week I haven’t checked his spreadsheet he pretty much stopped tweeting this year maybe that’s a good thing because Twitter can be a bit of a cesspool but he was always when like cam young was amazing like came out like a rocket he was always part of this like I swear to God I watch all I watch as much I taken as much corn faery as anybody he’s almost like the sky of corn faery and he’s like Davis Riley is a better player than cam young I don’t know what’s happening on the PGA tour Davis Riley is going to win before cam young and obviously like excluding team events it actually came true Davis Riley won before cam young so uh Josh told me that would happen a couple years ago shout out to Josh um hopefully comes back again soon I liked him I I did enjoy that when Davis Riley won walked off the course that Nick Hardy was the first guy to congratulate him the guy he won Zurich with last year but it just reminded me how much Nick Hardy looks like Paul Casey oh I see that I never thought about it before the second you say it I I see that they played together Thursday Friday Hardy hit a big putt out of the rain delay on Friday to make the cut and Riley was pumped for him Riley was probably pump for himself like having a 10 under score but um yeah so that was yeah favorite I was way off on my guess the odds with him I thought he’d come in at like 78 to1 he’s 4 to one that’s the best possible number even plus 375 in a lot of spots I guess it makes sense I probably should have factored in what his odds were at qua Hollow the last time that Scotty didn’t play and that was against in a signature event field with all of the other top players minus Scotty but I don’t know four to one is too steep for me I’m not getting to Rory or you no no I got to bet I got to bet desperate losers you know Rory when you when you need room for desperate losers but yeah if he comes back he tears his place apart we’ll get all fired up for Rory another you know we’ll have another win leading into another major well he’ll play next week yeah but even in the in in the discourse of the US Open if he wins this week like that’ll you know as long as he doesn’t botom out next week it’ll you know carry a lot of a lot of equity as as you know Roy tries to chase that that Fifth and hopefully he’s nice and refreshed I got a nice little uh got a nice little RNR part of the plane tracker so after him it’s Fleetwood theala noren Connor Lowry cam young Sam Burns that’s all between 18 and 30 to1 and then we jump down a little bit more you got Adam Scott the only player in the 30s at 33 and then it’s Keith Mitchell and mck Hughes MAV McNeely Tom Kim Aaron Ry btia hadwin EVR pendrith Nick Taylor the defending champ Davis Thompson that’s anywhere from 40 to 66 to one so it does fall off a cliff pretty easily the first two bets that I put in were OE and Aaron Ry I have not lost money on Aaron Ry yet this year so I’m willing to step up and take my turn but this is a perfect course for him yeah uh he played really well at Oakdale last year as well um which again I think they’re very I think this is harder but very similar and with the elevation changes there’s a lot of similarities that I feel are very distinguishable to people who know both properties um so I could see why that makes a lot of sense I didn’t think I I thought the AE number was good for the talent versus the field I didn’t really see it like the course fit didn’t see it I didn’t really make a rush to bet I don’t know that you got a rush to bet anybody I don’t know that anyone’s even like had their line move I don’t know what what golf betters want to do with this but Ry um that standed that stood out to me as like an obvious course fit i’ bet him last week may have even bet him like over Keegan because Keegan was one of the last guys off my card and Ry was one of the last guys on my card having like a moment they they were both losers so it doesn’t really matter yeah especially I don’t each I wouldn’t each way you know I would have played that Keegan 70 to1 full no no placements for me so yeah would have been equally a loser um yeah I mean I had these thoughts do I want to bet I literally said this this morning do I want to bet good desperate players or build a card that has Aaron Ry on it like is quote unquote is he not a part of the desperate loser Brigade like what’s really the difference between him and Alex norin okay you know what you’re right you’re right I maybe he is just as good I don’t really want to bet Alex nor I don’t and Tommy is it is a tough one in the teens it’s tough I feel like last year we got 28 30 to one or something it was 28 to one because I bet Fleetwood as well last year I honestly hat last year I had Hatton and Fleetwood those were my two big bets and they came second and third I think Lowry’s the better look than all these guys he’s at 25 okay that could be a fair point he also I think in some ways gets the good desperate player moniker I don’t know if Sam Burns does Pat sorry I don’t know if he’s desperate really but this also feels like a a field that burns could like Bully off his 12th at the PGA hitting it nice again um 28 to one so yeah I I like a lot and oh everything Cory Connor can play this way this course always he was out there yesterday I heard having a great time for for reference Burns did not come 12th to the PGA he missed the cut of the PGA did I Wells what did I uh he came 13th at qua Hollow then he missed the cut sorry yeah um yeah I don’t know he’s a player who could bully the [ __ ] out of this and cam young he’s desperate he can when it comes to Club down he’s had some success but I don’t know that’s a tough one I like a lot of these guys or I can build a card with Aaron Ry literally here’s the issue that I encounter here when you take a look at and maybe this is just a one-year outlier sample nothing to it but everyone who finished inside the top 10 except for Danny Willet of all people he lost 0.2 Strokes putting gained an incredible amount of Strokes on the green including Shane Lowry who gained eight Strokes putting and ended up coming in a tie for second behind Rory and that worries me with someone like Aaron Ry who legitimately cannot putt was sixth T to Green at Colonial lost four and a half Strokes putting happens Rory gained six Strokes putting Webb game nine but a lot of these guys when you look at them Webb coocher sniger hadwin even sunjay Graham McDow is up there as well Sebastian Muno like these are all guys that we typically do remember as being really good Putters and Rory’s either great or horrible he ended up having a great week when it came down to it just the only one that really sticks out like a sore of thumb is Shane Lowry who Maybe during that time he was gaining Strokes butting he does not do that really at all anymore to gain that amount of Strokes maybe the greins are just really easy here and that’s the difference because when I was thinking about it was an original design in like the 1910s or something like that but the guy that designed Royal Liverpool designed this course and Port rush and Wentworth and that one I really stuck out to me when I started to think about it because obviously Rory has won at Wentworth in the past Shane Lowry has won at Wentworth in the past Brian Fox won there a year ago who triple digits in this field Hatton ended up winning there Willet ended up winning there who ended up with the top 10 here noren won there in 2017 Rory won in 2014 and look at some of the runners up like Aaron Ry and Hatton were both Runners up a year ago to Ryan Fox Vic Perez has come runner up at Wentworth so maybe that’s the course that we should be looking at here I never would have thought to go there but architect I mean well it could be greens too right I’m disappointed I speaking of Willl it quickly so he came back at the Masters months ahead of a surger based on what people said that surgery would keep you out of he had a great recovery felt good enough to play the Masters hasn’t played since he always comes to Canada would have loved have driven to Hamilton tomorrow gotten some RBS seen that my boy there’s no Arby’s in Toronto so if I’m like in my head I’m thinking if I’m going Hamilton tomorrow I’m going to like grab some beef and chather just putting it out there into the universe okay so me yeah no the put you’re right how do you TR Aaron Ry sucks Shane Lowry at the moment you trust him over a big putt no no like even Ro Rory carried that Sunday at dour like all day it was so yeah I don’t know how that correlates with these players who I might want to bet I might just like Fleetwood to win Fleetwood placings go home it’s a pretty logical way to look at it this course does seem I I worry with the Rory runaway and then what we saw at the top with all the names that were up there but this does seem like of course much like last week it’s kind of prime for one of these jabronies to really get into it with a hot putter I’m not smart enough to to Dart the Jabron that’s but yeah you’re not not you’re not wrong and there’s not a ton of field strength at the top that if you’re Jabron gets into it as long as it’s not Rory you know none of them are intimidating none of them really bring win Equity I would say the most intimidating if they’re actually playing well versus your Jabron might be Sam burs but he couldn’t hold off Nick Dunlop when we had him this year it couldn’t you know duel Nick dunlaw but he’s the only one to me of like the guys under 30 to one that you know has trophies that I think is a killer that loves beating up on shitty [ __ ] Fields And if the top of the board ejects itself if sorry if only Rory just isn’t around then this is the exact sort of field that Sam Burns is bullied for a lot of those trophies what do you make of theala this week just because I’ve been betting theala so often he’s the best number I can get on him right now is 22 to1 it doesn’t seem like it would be a good course for because he seems so erratic off the tea but it’s not that he’s erratic off the tea it’s just when he misses he misses by billions of yards he normally does hit the Fairway yeah and it’s been weird to see he’s been struggling around the green despite when he’s on TV he’s usually doing something magical around the green so every other time we don’t see the highlight it went horribly wrong correct the RBC guy yeah know he got I don’t know it means nothing but uh two at the RBC Heritage um his ceiling golf against this field like that’s what you’d be betting on right you’d almost ignoring because you’re right in some ways it doesn’t hit you as an ideal course fit but you would just be betting his talent versus the field maybe you’d want to be cocky to call it in some ways um but that’s what I’d say about norin like to bet norin this week at that number he feels like the perfect course fit hard just like you just clap for him and you’ll clap for people that have the guts to do it uh but I’d almost rather bet Tommy or siah shorter and I’d rather swallow and and eat a little nicer potentially but his current form makes you think it’s it’s a perfect runway for for norin and even you I mean you read we don’t have a ton of names here so you went even cross 50 the fact that Maverick MC NE is what not like T8 on the to like the seventh name you read ninth name you read crazy like yeah just what they’ll just plot his way around here hit the putts yeah which is weird because he actually gained a bunch of T green at Colonial and didn’t make the putts it’s so weird when that I mean it was just one of those weeks at Colonial that the the normal things that people do well they didn’t do well and the inverse happened you just need everyone to kind of put it together all at once even Scotty on Sunday his iron distance was off you just never see that from him he was yeah I don’t know whether it was the win but he was sleeping in his home bed right I mean he also he also has a felony charge that wasn’t dropped he can’t play in the Canadian open because he has pending felony charges can’t leave the country oh that would have been so funny like not actually but I we would have they would have gotten them in they would have gotten a in um Adam Scott desperate to make the US Open I think it might be the first major he’s not in in our since we’ve been friends scheduled so he was a late commit here Pat showed some life early last week I’m not really looking to bet him but I’m just acknowledging his presence here and that it was a late commit and he is trying to make the US Open because I I could be wrong but I don’t believe he’s missed a major in the his consecutive major streak is probably the longest who’s could be longer I don’t know is is that true that he has not missed one let me do the the Wikipedia scroll oh yeah when was the last time he didn’t play in a major uh NT I don’t know what NT means but the Open champ oh yeah they didn’t have an Open championship in 2020 that’s why and the last time he didn’t play in a major was the US Open in 2001 there’s no right so it’s it’s quite an incredible B streak feet it would be a shame for that to die I don’t know what he would have to do here if not to win to get in um maybe he’s trying to suck up maybe you know because you think it’s debatable I don’t think there’s a chance in hell he’s not on the President’s Cup team um I wouldn’t be shocked to if he’s not like paired with weiry or something early in the week as you know leader and Captain could be going over some things but he is t50 or he’s he’s 58th in the world rankings right now I think he needs to be top 50 by the end of next week I don’t know if he’s out of sponsors exemptions yet or not for the Signature Events because he’s been playing in the mall and he has not been qualified to play in them but if he gets if he does well this week like he was T12 last week and moved up four spots from 62 to 58 another like top 10 should probably get him to like 55 54 and then if he has a decent week of Memorial if he gets in then that would get him there he probably needs like a top three finish in order to qualify but I do believe that the US Open qualification the one in Canada is next week so maybe he’s coming to play that and then playing in that qualifier next Monday to try to play himself in maybe that’s a great shout because that is a bit of a lame duck qu qualifier I would think compared to some of the I’m sure other more difficult ones um that probably go on around shout out Robert Rock right we saw last week he got into the US Open that was incredible back to this betting board Keith Mitchell You’ think would be lovely here except right he goes can he make you mentioned that leaderboard and the Putter and the around the greens but he seems like a guy who should be putting for birdie all week long maybe but I if we do really kind of hammer down on accuracy that’s not where I’d really put the strong suit of Keith Mitchell is hitting a bunch of Fairways like I think for noren and it really does play itself out well for their particular skill set I don’t know if it necessarily matches Keith Mitchell although he has played well at Club down courses but he too like I mean I I can’t talk out of both sides of my mouth here and say hey I’m G to bet on Aaron Ry I know he can’t make putts but whatever and then say hey Keith Mitchell can’t make putts there’s no way in hell I would bet him so if you want to bet Keith Mitchell I what you just said could most definitely happen can he start to roll them in I don’t know at least with Aaron Ry I’ve seen him putt well enough at some of these open Championship courses that there’s does seem to be some sort of like correlation between that and here I don’t know with the redesign of the green maybe it’s a flatness of the green the speed of the green I have no idea what it is but there’s something there my perception as him as a much better putter than Keith Mitchell um would be a lovely fit and who was it Matt Ganon joked on Twitter this morning you just look at the top of the beding board and you think we’re in Dubai yeah where does Fleetwood play his best so you know then he came here and got second last year and it was his typical you know starting Palm Beach as result so I don’t know but around the world Tommy like he wins everywhere around the world maybe just so I’m still trying to maybe hold on to that I don’t know how I don’t get to the window with Tomy man like he I feel like he just owes it to me and that’s how you lose money doing this but I feel Ed okay down the board the the let’s call it the the 50 to 100 although I know that we crossed 50 a little while ago senson pops up in a lot of the numbers but he’s another guy who can’t putt hoard for me if he can hit some Fairways I think this a great spot for him I mentioned Ryan Fox maybe Bobby Mack like I’m looking at a lot of these European players like Bas strictly on numbers Burger Kevin youu and Mark hubard all kind of fit the skill set that we want here I just don’t know if they got them to go win like Kevin you legit can’t Putt and sometimes all hubard can do is hit putts but and Burger’s just kind of been all over the place although his ball striking especially his driving has been a lot better over the past six weeks or so and you’re getting him in a pretty good number at 80 to one so of all those shouts um Hubbert and senson would be two guys that if I don’t just bet on some good desperate players would be guys I’d love to bet I think I bet hubard last year I thought it was a lovely course fit for him I would feel much the same way about it and as you reinforced the putting um leaderboard of of last time at Hamilton it it does make me think I I could dip with with hubard I don’t even think hadwin who I see is high as 66 Pat um you know you mentioned he was six last time Fitz fits a lot of what the guys around that leaderboard did outside of or do outside of of Rory so I think 66 uh you could probably even get that like enhanced to 70 I think is totally fair and I’d argue the Taylor to 70 You could argue is also totally fair and what Nick Taylor has done is I mean he’s shown that he can win without form I’m not betting Nick Taylor this week but I think based on how many guys in front of him on the oddsboard actually win events I don’t like that seems as Fair as any of these B 50 North North of 50 but I got to ask why what did and if you said it earlier I hope you didn’t but what about Bacha do you do you like here I didn’t just a talent play it’s a talent play but I I think if you have to go out and make birdies he’s kind of the guy that you want for that he’s going to go pin seeking he’s not a bad putter at all ever since he changed the the sweeping putter he’s been quite good on the green so I do think that he can make the required putts and he’s just gone through like a little bit of a bad stretch right now now like even to look at him accuracy wise like he has been brutal off the tea over the past month or so like the fairways are way down he’s one of the bottom players in the field and strokes gained off the tea but that used to be kind of his bread and butter it was I mean he gained off the tea for 12 consecutive events to start the year and he kind of Hit the skids at the Masters after he won and he bounced back a little bit last week for the first time off the tea since he won it Valero he hit a bunch of Fairways he gained two strokes off the te the approach was bad the around the green was bad uh two the worst outings that he’s had all year that’s okay he ended up missing the cut he gained almost five Strokes on Approach at the PGA Championship in two rounds when he missed the cut so if you can just kind of Cobble it all back together you know we SE this with a lot of young players sometimes they win and they take a little bit of a dip and then takes them a little while to come back I think that he has the right kind of game for this place if he can get back to hitting Fairways because he starts hitting Fairways he can go fire at these pins and he can make enough 15ot putts to go contend and when I did look at like I don’t know if Valero is like comp course but it’s a pretty comp field from what we saw this time around like it’s even a lot of the same names like Rory played in that field Tommy played in that field we had Hideki Fitz and Jordan spe play that play that time around as well but a lot of the Canadians played there Connors has won there in the past it just strength of fieldwise this one’s a little bit weaker but it’s not substantially weaker at the same time and you know the winning score was kind of like what we saw from this course the last time around where you had bti and McCarthy go absolutely insane and finish at 20 under the next closest guy was Rory at minus 11 so realistically the winning score I could have been Min – 13-4 which which I would expect for this week so that one just kept sticking out my mind a lot of here are the types of players that I think that I liked this week let me go look at you know what was another course where a lot of these same guys all played and btia was the one who stuck out now obviously he came in in much better form but he’s around the same odds the field is a little bit weaker and now he has a win to his credit and maybe the listen he hurt his rib at that event we don’t know if it ever got fixed he just kept playing well yeah I mean it was the the Masters was the next week and then they have elevated events so it’s like payday payday freemoney like he’s not going to withdraw then so you’re right that could make sense why there was a total dip and play after that and a fatigue Factor if you remember how much he played um leading into that he know like he’d been playing nonstop and then when the win comes that also adds weeks that you weren’t expected to be there you made a great case as I stare at this field it’s also again just like I I like when I make outright bets I’m betting on ceiling I’m betting on Talent um and versus this Fields You could argue he should be he should be lower it’s definitely a fair number so you got me swimming around that and well to to your point and I didn’t even make that connection but you are right after he won Valero that got got him in all the Signature Events and all the majors he played the Masters and then he played the next week at the RBC Heritage then he didn’t play again till Quail Hollow which was an elevated event then he played the PGA Championship and then he finally played last week yes he missed the cut but you know his game seemed to be at least off the te a little bit better than it had been in recent weeks so this will be the third week in a row he’s playing fourth week in a row that he’s playing now so looks like he’s trying to ramp it back up again I think to get ready for the US Open and everything like that because I do think weirdly enough he could be a really good fit for Pinehurst interesting yeah I mean I the way he flushes it uh you probably got other reasons but the way he’s just a straight flusher some of those longer distances um yeah it wouldn’t shock me one bit he could if he could mix at the open don’t know what else here like just be nameing names I’m not going to have any money to bet these guys at the back do you like hoard sorry do you like hoard at all I I don’t I always get a track which one is this Nikolai Nikolai always mix them up well Rasmus doesn’t play on the PGA tour so you can be assuredly it’s not him H but that would also be a talent play I’m a sucker for that yeah he hasn’t played well since the Masters I mean got a super bomb Talent play which would be weird to say because they’re a super bomb so why would they be talented but uh addc I don’t even mind so much did you did you bet him last week in Belgium no I was Peter’s single yes yes yes I did actually I got suckered and my Streeter post I couldn’t resist uh it’s all red on the grid but um last couple PGA starts he’s been trending in the right direction um I don’t know so like of the super nasties deep down there addc and Carl Yan like led the LED this thing for I think two rounds last year trying to find his number I thought it was say CT pan ended up coming in third didn’t he when all was said and done I remember he eagled he had the chance at Eagle on 18 at Oakdale it was back toback weeks for him he played really well at Byron Nelson in his return then he played well at Oakdale then he was kind of not heard from again the rest of the season I’ve got no opinion okay no opinion on when does Li I guess and Liv would be playing next week I assume yeah are they doing I I saw that they picked some course in Texas looked pretty nice let’s just see because they’re playing obviously the week before and shout out to Blandy you know what Pat the Bots they can have this be their moment how do you put this Blandy was like credit to Blandy in the sense that he was able to he turned an incredible half year on the European tour when Liv at Liv’s Inception into getting um the live contract of a guy of his age like perfect great move it is not I guess it’s easy to say in hindsight but it does make perfect sense that if you are a Champions Tour aged player um Liv is is which is why it’s so [ __ ] disappointing why the [ __ ] Majestics like they they they should just be kicked out they should just be kicked out but Champions Tour players age players who want to be who are still serious about themselves live as an incredible place for them because there’s no other place that they can compete against that level of top tier player we in and week out and it’s just their competition level is higher than a Champions Tour competition level that is not to be debated it’s not to be debated um so in some ways like it should tune you up lovely for for that did Phil even play last week I don’t even know I just thought was Blandy versus charers and that was fun to me I think the last time that Phil played in a Senior Tour event was his lead up to his PGA Championship win when he dusted the field every time he played see is he kicked off that is that why I think so yeah okay so that that obviously makes sense Bland was probably never a PGA Tour member also really funny wording um from the PGA Tour Champions account from Stricker winning last year to Blandy winning this year um but you know you realize that could just be a totally different social media person right sure but it was very like um you we this tournament happened and this guy won as opposed to congratulations whatever from the 100 sorry from the 100 plus range when I’m looking at it there are a few names like I mentioned Fox he can be as high as 100 but he’s mainly 75 in most spots like Victor Perez Bryce Garnett Ben Martin uh Mac messenger where the hell that guy’s name is he keeps playing good golf and these are all guys who just hit a ton of Fairways and Ben Martin came top 10 at Valero a little while ago and had a very good approach week last week and you know that he’s going to hit a bunch of Fairways and he’s someone who can get super hot with the putter that these would be the types of guys that I would be looking at this week uh from down the board so I might do that but so I’m only in on uh on OE and Aaron Ry so far and OE is more of a you know a Hail Mary we know about the struggles with Ryan the putting it’s kind of the the debate for me right now like I know we didn’t really talk much about these two guys I mentioned the gal a little bit like do I want to make that plunge but like low and cam young seem to be pretty good values here versus this field yeah I don’t mind Cam young you can get it enhan to 30 when I said I I think it could be a week for for for good desperate players that would you like are like ha norin but in my head that was really just me trying to conin myself that I can bet Tommy and cam young um so that’s just full full disclosure uh you know maybe that’s a short bus take but that that’s that’s where I am Lowry does seem like a lovely fit so hit I don’t know I I can see what like you’ve been betting him a lot so now you see it’s just like a weaker field here’s a chance um and he does like everything I mentioned about OE the Gallo can do better the irons can be better and the putter can be better he’s just a third of the number it’s just um it’s more of like a luxury good at the luxury brand price if you want to get involved in that part of the board yeah so on one second McClure missing you he was fifth last week at Colonial he had miscuts at corales uh and Byron Nelson but he was 10th at Valero as well his TD green game is pretty strong when it’s on and he seems to make enough putts interesting to me I think he’s like 400 to one or something yeah Sky had him on a placing last week out lovely and Sky Bet nacho in Europe too and he won good for him nacho yeah there are a lot of people on nacho I was rooting against nacho I was just getting updates from you because I was not watching it yeah I was just like we got a dog in the fight but then he didn’t get a part five yeah golf club of Houston next week um and then after the PJ Championship they’re at Nashville at the Grove and then they play talking about live yeah oh you should probably say that sorry I brought it yeah I guess I loaded the screen and then it finally came up oh that’s cute then they’re playing in Catalonia after uh in July right at valderama so that’s good we we’re looking forward to that um but live Houston we’ll be watching next week it’s a week before a major and Bryson’s the Superstar so we’ll see I wonder if he’ll have his game amped up for a Liv event or if he’s just trying even in his post game for the PGA Championship he didn’t even mention Liv I don’t like he’s just but he’s kind of like Brooks in that sense like they’re more their own entity he’s wearing the gear like he’s live is is obviously a big part of it um unlike Brooks who obviously is it’s clear that when brooks w he’s like no I’m going to be a Nike guy I don’t care about your team [ __ ] I’m Nike guy I like the smash hats really do like that that smash hat um yeah I don’t I mean it’s one of these things where well people like the majors are so stacked on top of each other Pat that like people who even love Bryson proba I’ve got my Bryson fix it’s up against Memorial like that is they’ve done this before that’s a big Flex by L you know they I like live better when they want to take on the the the the you know the PGA events that sometimes feel like corn fairy event or elevated corn fairy events a few starts when Liv made its schedule didn’t they think they were going up against this tournament yeah probably because they’ve historically picked on this tournament which makes from their scheduling aspect this would be a a lamb to go up against just like you you know events like the John Deere and and through the summer so you’re probably right maybe when they did make the schedule they did think it wasn’t Memorial um I’m not sure I would argue though Pat the PJ schedule was that way before the Liv schedule feel like they’re always a little late to um give us official announcements on things like we’re still getting right like even through the season we’re getting locations on on Championship events which is like I don’t care but um it is what it is but I’ll be in the week before a major like it is actually probably in their best interest it doesn’t matter if it’s an elevated event the week before a major is important to like even to a level not all golf fans but in it hits into to a bit of the Casual psyche as people try to get psyched for Majors so playing the week before Majors is obviously what the Live players want but I think from like the golf better standpoint nothing gets them more eyeballs than when they play the week before Majors even if it’s against morial we all want to know how those like eight nine guys are playing and obviously for DFS purposes you know 22 guys I don’t know not not in the US Open but um I don’t know who qualified a bunch of them did qualify we saw chakara I forget the list but they’re a bunch they other than Taylor gu a bunch of them are making legitimate efforts so good for them yeah Sergio loss at seven to eight playoff whatever it was so he’s out that sucks yeah he was like the one guy who didn’t get in monteo Monero got in good for him but yeah like I don’t care much for Sergio I wouldn’t want to bet him but I’d love to see him show up at the US Open and wear his outfits I got no issues with that he’s still part of golf for me I don’t think it’s as much of cuz what really matters to live is it drawing eyeballs to a live tournament it doesn’t actually seem to be the case it’s performing well in major championships to give them legitimacy so maybe they just made the calculation we don’t really care if anyone watches our event the week before but we need our players to play the week before so they’re fine-tuned to play in these Majors you’re right that seems like the fair calculus what gets them the best pub is when they perform in Majors their schedule is done to but I’m sure they consult like there’s no way they’re not talking to those eight players like when do you guys want the pre major events to be like the guys that are actually in Majors exempt into Majors I believe Liv has in some ways approaches them to like where like you want to play the week before the majors I think they straw poll Their Stars sure we got some fun Canadians in the back of this there’s 25 Canadians playing this week like my main man Papo he’s playing and Jared D did cockroll get an invitation he did didn’t he yes he’s playing yeah and he had a nice decent week in h Belgium so yeah he’ll be coming down I’ll be looking for uh for Aaron always good times he’s a good lad and to your point the 25 Canadians it was actually brought up for us in Canada who are like ah we want like RBC give us make this an elevated event instead of Heritage one year that is why it could probably never be an elevated event because golf Canada like it just you mentioned like there’s 25 Canadians we give exemptions around the world for Canadians um couldn’t do that with an elevated event no well maybe you could maybe just you don’t make it 80 players you make it 156 okay maybe and then you limit the and then you don’t invite 25 Canadians you invite 15 or something yeah and again it’s you know something that I am paying attention to Pat closely is there’s still no extension for next year and with RBC and this tournament and it sounds like they’re it sounds like they’re stronger arming them into either cheaper rates or better schedule placement or more things it seems like they want to be involved they just want a better deal I would agree every time I read those RBC quotes it’s like you know they mention all those things that we acknowledge as going on in golf but and they acknowledge that we are a two tournament sponsor and like how could the PGA Tour let us go they’re just trying to get I think the best the absolute best deal possible out of this current landscape also by delaying the announcement Pat or by delaying any sort of decision it it increases their leverage in that it gives significantly less time for them to go out and replace the sponsors and as we said there are not many brand like there’s only about three or four companies in Canada that could afford to do this and with how sponsorships work a lot of those monies are already allocated for other activations around be it the NHL or or blue jays or the or any yeah all sorts of other other things the Olympics Olympic year this year um right so there’s so many other things there’s not many companies that could do what RBC is doing even if not even to be a two event just to be a single event host here in Canada it’s a small pool to to pick from and their Leverage is dwindling so yeah F it’s just a strong arm it would be crushing it would be crushing even trade yeah we could get some points we wouldn’t sweep that but there were points on the board for us in those matchups somewhere so yeah we wouldn’t get yeah we could keep the fight maybe within um Striking Distance the thing about the president cup is they let you rest more players they give you more of an option they let the they let the Internationals just play their best forces um I’m c he should be the one thing that I W I will give some Credence to is that before his wins the placements weren’t good but the ball striking had been really good before all of those wins and it is not right now so that that probably means more than the actual placements I totally agree just in this game of who’s going to win in terms of like I said there’s not many guys ahead of him on the betting board I say all that as a guy who’s literally betting two of the guys who never win near the top so you know I’m talking out of both sides of my mouth I’m saying that’s a great bet I’m not making it I you’re right it’s kind of like NFL stadiums the majority of them people are driving like a you know at least an hour to go get to now there’s a lot of some of them do earn the city limits but the majority of them are not are not no like that’s why Oakdale and even St George’s was so rare to see it on the PGA tour that way like they’re I mean St George’s isn’t downtown your course isn’t exactly downtown but it’s very much in the city it’s not an hour and a half away no you get on the you can get on like the garden from downtown and be there in 25 minutes you can take the Subway and get there yeah so it’s pretty tight but St George is like downtown it is it is lovely it’s a shame it’s a shame their members don’t want want us back and I again I am worried that their members putting their nose up at the Canadian open is emboldening some in my membership to be like if they can do it we can do it but um feels like it’s gonna be a losing battle for me this summer not very patriotic no no not at all shame it’s also our 100th it’s the 100th anniversary of the club um the year we scheduled to host so whatever it would be lovely but we’ll see we’ll see well I’ll be back tomorrow like I
