all right Ryan thanks for joining us um at the Charles Schwab challenge this is your 21st appearance this coming week so just talk to me about you know the history of this place and going into the renovation and just the pride that you have seeing it all come to fruition this week yeah 21 that’s I’ve heard that a lot this year seems like about uh yeah what a ride no uh this is always a special week there’s no doubt about it um been a member here since 20 and just the relationships I have with the members here the tournament staff and then just this golf course what it means to me so uh yeah it’s been a been a crazy year for Colonial obviously but the restoration you know Gil Hans his team did and I mean it’s unbelievable how fast they came together and I know the membership has been very excited about it it took some hoops to jump through to get it approved through the membership and it was pretty cool to kind of be a part part of um you know a lot of the conversations we had you know sitting in a at a table with Gil and going through it all answering questions so uh to finally see it and for the guys on tour to to be here playing it and I’ve heard a lot of a lot of great positive comments so that’s that’s good to know I was a little nervous to be honest with you um for the course and for the club but uh yeah I just spoke with Gil just outside a few minutes ago and he said he’s heard a lot of great things so uh I’m excited to see how it all unfolds this week what’s your favorite part about the renovation uh the main thing is just the the redo of the greens as far as the grass and the systems underneath the hydronics cuz you know we play we’re here during the summer playing the greens are spongy soft from all the moisture because they they don’t want them to die and burn out so to be able to use this the system with that heating and cooling you know I feel like we’re going to have great greens here throughout you know in the winter time they can heat them summertime cool them off but um I mean the greens right now are rolling perfectly and you know I’m so excited for for for the golf course that Gil’s out here seeing now so uh you know a lot a lot of changes that you know taking some Bunker play out for us to make it a little tougher it was a a big thing we talked about um making it some more playable for the for the membership as well for the everyday golfer so not having to play out of the bunkers but they um yeah it’s going to be it’s going to be it’s going to still take a year or two I think to really see how this golf course plays this year this year is going to play firm and fast cuz it’s so new and immature so uh but um it’s going to be a you know to bring back a little bit of history of this golf course back when it played and when it was first designed and um you hear Gil talk about a lot the course Ben Hogan played so it’s uh it’s cool it’s cool and nice to see that kind of come back to life so uh now I’m excited about it any questions uh Ryan if you could just kind of elaborate on what your involvement was with um the renovations of the course and how exciting that was to be a part of that process yeah I mean I I want to say I had a lot of involvement I think it’s more just conversation uh I’ll never forget when this first started they asked if I’d be interested in sitting down and giving my two cents I guess from a a tour standpoint and I mean I couldn’t have said yes fast enough so we we sat down for a long 4our lunch as myself Gil our superintendent Rich um our tournament chairman Jim Whitten Chris cotton from our greens committee our general manager Frank and then James Evanson who C for me for 20 years has been a longtime member here as well uh good player so we we sat there and had a long lunch and went through every hole listen to what Gil’s Vision was and you know I was able to give my opinion of what I wanted to see what I didn’t want to see CU you know we’ve also seen some redesigns that have not gone the right direction and that was the biggest thing we we kind of talked about it is making sure we kept this golf course similar the way it was cuz every player I talked to said don’t touch it don’t touch it but I feel like we kind of kept the same Golf Course um he lasered the greens and tried to put them back with the same slopes which is pretty cool to see and then um of course the redo on number eight was fantastic so uh do that was my little my little part just kind of trying to speak on behalf of you know our tour membership and the players that love this golf course and I hope uh uh like I said a lot of guys have had a lot of great comments have have any other players come to you maybe thinking you might be uh an expert or a colonial Whisperer because of your involvement and what is what have been the conversations you’ve had with some of the other players I’m definitely no Whisperer that’s for sure but uh no just a lot of guys are saying hey they did an awesome job it’s really good and I’ve actually tried to ask some guys what they think and you know there’s a few spots obviously that you you you may see some tweaking you know in the near future but uh overall I think most guys have been very very positive very confident about it and um you know excited about it and like I said it’s going to take a year to kind of get it grown in and really see how this course will play you know next may but uh I think everybody’s in for a treat to see the the work they did and um but yeah it’s uh it’s been positive so far art yeah Ryan I’ve heard players talk about different ways how how do you treat a a tournament at home obviously when you’re on the road you don’t know a lot of people you’re just focused and this week you know everybody and you’re sleeping how do you balance those two things playing kind of anonymously and then playing when you know everybody yeah I I through my years in the history of playing this tournament I’ve learned that when I leave the golf course I go home you know I don’t allow anybody to come over and hang out my mom’s in town um I try to keep it as normal as a tournament but also dealing with not dealing with but doing stuff at home like I was at home till noon today waiting on some sound and video guys for our house was waiting on the couch to get delivered so that was my uh my home activity this morning so but main just being home and relaxing trying to do the same routine I would do if I was anywhere else and um but when I’m done it’s nice to be able to go home relax you I go out to vicero to use this their co- plunge and relax out there as well so uh but it’s um it’s hard it’s difficult um a lot of friends and family show up and I mean you want to go see them all after each round but I keep it uh you know said when I’m done and I’m leaving I go home and you know I’ll see you I’ll see you tomorrow kind of how I’ve kept it in the back hello um so I was wondering as I’m a player as well and I obviously don’t play professional or anything like that but I have had days where after the many years of playing I’ve gotten like stuck or in a rut what would be your advice to getting out of that or like anything like that I’m trying to get out of one myself so if I you know the biggest thing for me when I’ve had those moments through my through my career is I’ve thought I’ve gone back and try to think about moments I’ve had you know what I felt what I was thinking what I was working on and that’s and there get out there and grind it that’s all I’ve been doing this past you know month I would say is been really hitting the range hard harder than I want to but they say just try to go out and find it in the dirt and just get out there and grind away and then I always look back on putts I’ve made or shots I’ve hit in certain crucial moments and I seem to draw on those a lot just for my history so uh and just continue to to know you how much you love the game and enjoy it don’t let it beat you down and I’ve tried to make sure this game doesn’t wear me down I’ve never treated as a job I’ve it’s always been fun and and my love for the game is what’s kept me going this far so um those are the things that I’ve I’ve done throughout my career anything else awesome all right thanks Ryan all right thank you
