in their home opener a few days ago and then falling to mcook well splitting the series against mcook 11 as they lost in game number one six to5 they had many a chances to get into a winning position there but a lot of mental mistakes and self-inflicted wounds really are what caused the Nationals to fall in that game and then of course they W in game number two more convincingly 721 of course I remember and I talked about with head coach Ricky holit 17 completed stolen bases in those two games 17 stolen bases combined that is an absolutely astronomical number but unfortunately in game number one they were unable to use those stolen bases to their advantage they fell again in that one 6 to5 to Mook are two and one on the year and now comeing to take on misco Sports Carney in the now fourth game of the season for the Nationals and see if they can continue on with the strong momentum of course this national squad which is essentially comprised of um plethora of North Plat High School Bulldog baseball players defeated Carney in their lone matchup last season between the two teams and we’ll look to do that here cuz as just like we talked about when the B played the Bearcats a couple of almost a month ago it feels like these two teams essentially are the American Legion Baseball team and right here in the starting lineups they are essentially the two teams right here which is course historic billwood field for singles action these two teams have seen each other last year was North Plat high school that got off to a great start in the regular SE season taking down Carney in both games but unfortunately they did fall and got absolutely Wally gaged got shut out in that game versus at the time it was runsa Carney in districts after of course that massive 16 ining game between both Grand Island and North Plat both excuse me FBO Nationals had to take on Carney that next day after that game they were all puckered out of energy unfortunately got shut out looking to continue the trend of regular season victories against this newly named misco Sports Carney team still the same Carney team that you’ve seen for what feels like three years now but they just are under a new name and a little bit of a different Jersey of course starting off for the for the Nationals here to start this ball game out Jack pul course up to bat this time at his most natural position at Short I can’t say natural position cuz he’s done such a fantastic job as pitcher but on the field of course you see him always on at shortstop and then of course following one Jack pul blae Zyer in right field and Kayon joneson on Center that’s your one two three in the order for the fnbo Nationals to start today’s game of course head coach Ricky Holm now moves his way on over to third as always and Carson Johnson who has come back to help assistant coach this year on over at first and just to say big congratulations to Now new head coach of the North Plat High School baseball boys baseball team coach Ricky Holm has officially today been announced as the new head coach starting next season of course was the assistant coach this year but huge congratulations to him as he’s officially been tagged as the new head coach for next year’s team is that first pitch from the pitcher who is Derek nonhoff is down low ball number one to Jack PK of course Jack pulk had a very eventful day in his first start against ogalala went six Innings six and two3 innings and really just shut down the ogalala squad he’ll swinging Miss for strike number one one and one the count absolutely lights out and puts some good hits together as well when he was up to bat next pitch from nonhoff is upstairs ball two of course these guys have seen each other couple of times throughout the years when Nationals and of course now msco Sports Carney played each other the two1 from nonhof long windup is fouled off by P will now go to a two and2 count with nobody out nobody on here in this top of the first inning pulk would love to get on and then have Blaze Zer come up and potentially lay the bunt down get two Runners on early for the Nationals two2 once more popped up drifting towards my Press Box and it’s fouled right next to me so it still stay at two and two bulldogs again two and one on the season split the games against Mook a couple days ago hold my thought the 22 drilled into the Gap in left Center that’ll get down and Jack pul will get a lead off single for the Nationals and that’s exactly what the doctor ordered and exactly what coach Ricky Holm was looking for and now an opportunity to get two Runners on as the infield is going to be playing in the Grass more specifically Tyson Cabella at third suspecting the bunt attempt from blae Zyer because we all know Z’s got some pretty immense speed and looking to get two Runners on for the Bulldogs as there’s a pickoff attempt and O Jack pul almost got tagged out got a little anti on the pad and jumped forward and then had to run back as quick as he can but gets there in time so Carney expecting a bunt from Zer positioning the infield specifically tasking gabella at third to do so first pitch it’s just barely going to squeak in there for strike number one teetering on the edge of the plate Owen won the count now so we now sit ow and one the count pulk on over at first as another pickoff attempt will get Jack pulk back from Derek nonhof but nothing doing it as pul gets back in plenty of time so still an 01 count as another look at first two glances and the throw outside throck Morton’s going to Chuck it down to Nationals players as well as Bulldog players when they Bulldogs played Carney this season probably one of if not the best catcher in the state as that pitch is upstairs for balll number two to blae Zyer it’s nonhof fires swung on driven to the Gap once again and left Center but gloved up by the left fielder Keegan brand and good play from Bla Zyer as he got some really great contact on that joneson batting in the three hole again p and joneson flip-flopped normally what we see Kaden joneson be the leadoff batter but to start this season it’s Jack pulk is another pickoff from Derek nonhoff will get pulk back ryce Anderson there at first expecting it another potential bunt situation that misco thinks as they have Tyson Cabella playing up in the grass as that pitch is in there strike number one from Derek nonhoff with that strike number one into the center fielder joneson Dean McIntyre on Deck with Landing greo in the hole for the Nationals another glance sent first for nonhoff as now Kaden joneson Will Call some time and take a step off and refocus in it’s going to be tough for Jack pul to get a good jump off to begin with as nonhoff a left-handed thrower and then it’s extra hard with Cole Throckmorton behind home plate the pitch there goes Jack pul a great throw from throck Morton and and oh they’re going to get him yet [Applause] again Cole roock Morton throws out a Nationals Runner and that time it’s Jack pulk it’s been however many years and it just keeps happening Cole throck cannot be dealt with in terms of his throws from home plate to second he does such a fantastic job at it another out for MCO Sports Carney is at off speed pitch Finds Its way in strike two to joneson it’s that double-edged sword it can happen every once in a while a successful steal but throck Morton was ready for it and there’s two down in the inning the one-w pitch swung on and fouled off but it’s in there strike number three and just like that the inning will looking to continue that here today as on the mound for the Nationals today Easton Jones will be taking over pitching for fnbo another strong pitcher not only had a great season for the Bulldogs where led the team in strikeouts and erra but looking to transition that here against a Carney excuse me a misco sports Carney team that looking to continue another strong outing as they always do as up to bat Garrison Burns for the first time here today is that pitch from Easton Jones his way outside for ball number one Jones does have the gas as a pitcher he is a great pitcher when it comes to his speed but every once in a while his control starts to waver because of that that speed as that pitches in there for strike number one he’ll have outings where he looks absolutely Untouchable and then all of a sudden the arm just starts to fall off and his conol his control excuse me starts to waver but so far off to a strong start there for strike number two a one and two count already into the side of the Nationals one run four hits excuse me for the Nationals in terms excuse me for MCO Sports Carney my good Heavens got my team’s Miss messed up there one run four hits no errors for the Nationals who today we got to saw see the bad side of the Nationals we see it every once in a while or in last year specifically in stretches where they’ll start the season off where they’ll have a good three-game stretch of offense and then for one to two to maybe even three games the offense just kind of goes silent for some odd reason we saw that unfortunately rear its ugly head right here against a not only a really strong Carney Squad but a strong pitcher and Derek nonhoff as you National did get one run on a double from Easton Jones they only crewed four hits and left seven stranded which is probably something coach uh Ricky Holm will be talking about specifically that I believe top of the second inning when they had the bases loaded but couldn’t get anybody to come home three straight outs after loading the bases and unfortunately those those un oh not un opportune those un Those runs that didn’t come across were really the back breaker in this one as they fall 5 to one year during some of the toughest moments you know you talked about you wanted to see May a little bit more consistency this season we talked in the ogalala game and of course it’s you hate to see when the bats not really be productive against a strong team like Carney when you probably needed them the most to be active here as you fall 5 to one yeah I mean hats off to nonhof and throck mher between the two of them I mean controlling a running game that’s big for opponents against us but these teams in conference they know how we play and was kind of stressing to the guys before and after the game that you know we may get away with one or two tricks that we normally do but just not the amount that we’ve gotten away with so far and second ining to get Bases Loaded nobody out and have uh 78 n hitters not leave the infield you know it’s real tough there and just need to get better situationally yep and of course you talk about over the weekend against M cook 17 total stolen bases and then here today you knew it was going to be a tough challenge going against Cole Throckmorton for who who for the last two seasons has really been the thorn in your sides when you you come here to face this Carney Squad again you really I want say rely but you do like to put a lot of pressure on the base pads and when that gets taken away it kind of I want to say forces the guys but forces the team to get into a different little bit of a comfort zone and we saw here today just struggling to find production uh from a batting standpoint yeah I mean you look at our first three games we have 48 stolen bases and we only have 18 runs you know so even though we’ve been running like crazy those first three games to only come out of it with 18 runs and a two inone record um it really just you know it it heightens what we got to do right and what we got to do wrong and when we’re doing stuff wrong and situationally there I mean when nonhoff is you know from the left side and he’s you know 1.1 1.2 seconds to the plate and drock Morton is you know a 2 21 pop time I mean that really shuts down the running game so it really you know you got to stress the importance of making sure that when we’re in a certain situation you know talking like with Tai hannor today have Bases Loaded nobody out and he’s in the seven hole and he goes and first pitch swings at one of his chest and Pops it up to the infield uh just little things like that you know and kind of telling these guys that we’re really really close to having a really good year and really really close to not having the year that we were expecting to have so um I still think this team has special in it uh you know top to bottom I think it’s the deepest pitching that we’ve had since I’ve been here uh now it’s just kind of about you know getting our keeping our thinking hats on and getting those clutch situational hits when we need them you know in this situation you know how important do you think it is that you have some of those you know alumni players come back and are being some assistants this year like Andrew broches Tristan Byer you know Carson Johnson how much do you think those guys will maybe not right now play a big role but as we see later down the line how big do you think maybe their words of wisdom will be for this team yeah I mean all those guys are battle tested all those guys have been here since I’ve been here so they’ve been to State they know you know what an awesome feeling it is to get there and how addictive it is so um as we get later and later in the season and they kind of get more comfortable you know I kind of tell the guys and it’s a situation that I’ve been in the toughest situation as a coach is when you coach guys that you played with you know because For Better or Worse they’ve kind of seen a peak behind the curtain that usually players don’t get to see with coaches so um it’s just about you know kind of having the players buy into what they’re saying and you know I stress that importance to them it’s like guys they ain’t out here for the money you know they’re getting paid 50 cents an hour if you average it out over the summer um they’re here to help out give back to the program they gave to them um and as we move forward here you know hopefully we can start leaning on them a little more as they get comfortable and uh hopefully we could uh turn something into it you know while again the hitting wasn’t the best day I think overall still on the defensive side a very very good game no errors is that was a little bit of an issue you know during the Mook game which is so far seems to be one of an outlier uh uh to start this season I thought pitching well yes it gave up you look statistically five whole runs I really don’t think that overall States how I think really another good strong outing it was it was just maybe if those bats just like in hockey you know if you know you get one or two runs here or there that kind of changes the momentum of this game but I think overall from a defensive standpoint even seeing the young guys like Connor Stiffler at third make some really really good plays I think overall defensively got to say big step up over you know some of the mishaps that happened against Mook over the weekend yeah I mean other that you know pretty much everybody out there is a returner and has played a lot of big Innings uh Conor stippler being The Freshman you know he’s going to be kind of a utility guy depending on if Jones or Jack is pitching he’ll definitely you know and they’re going to be pitching in some of the bigger games so he’s going to be hitting some of the bigger games and uh can’t put a price on the experience he’s getting now you know and hopefully as we move forward in the season he starts getting a little thicker skin a little bit more comfortable in his skin because he’s definitely an athlete and he’s definitely going to help us out as moving forward and you can kind of see that today I talked about on the on the on the call that you know if he could just get get the the batle on the ball I think that’ll only just improve his confidence and you saw him that one at that when he finally got got the energy and kind of locked in and get some of those swings in It produced some good results even if it was just productive and out yeah I mean we got to try to keep it into perspective I mean last year you know he’s playing eighth grade travel ball and most guys aren’t throwing curb balls so I mean pretty much every time he steps up into the blade he’s either seeing the fastest pitch he’s seen or the you know the best curveball he’s seen even like you know that line drive to Third Base you know in two months he makes that play you know but I bet you that’s probably the hardest ball that he’s ever hit straight up Adam so um bunch of first for him but uh you know him along with you know depending on maybe Logan Hayes and Jackson Peters later on in the season whether it’s this year or next year uh we got a good balance balance of uh Youth and age and hopefully we can uh you know just kind of realize from our mistakes here and move forward and uh got another one tomorrow versus Lex I was going to say no rest for the Wicket here as you’ll be taking on Lexington tomorrow at home and then you’ll be welcoming in probably one of the scariest teams you’ll see all season for Memorial weekend of Cheyenne so you know Lex has been has always been good to you guys in terms of your production and bounceback it always feels like whenever there’s a down game Lexington appears kind of out of the blue and you kind of start to get back on or roll you know how important of it is tomorrow to really move this game to the back mirror and put your best foot forward because if you don’t you got probably again as we said it’s probably one of the scariest teams you guys will face all season and cheyen that always produces D1 Talent yeah I was you know talking to the guys after the game like even not so much last last year but two years ago when we were 22 and 21 and replacing a bunch of seniors you know there was a lot of games were like today or that weekend versus mcook where you know I’m yelling at him and we need to be practicing at 8:00 in the morning the next day and I told those guys I don’t you know I think we have the skill set you know I don’t think I mean obviously we need to practice but it’s not a whole bunch of stuff like it was a couple years ago when we were pretty much replacing a whole senior’s team um so just kind of telling them it’s like you know I’m trying to be patient with them and kind of understanding that it’s early on in the season but I mean we’re on that you know fine line of you know whether we’re going to be a good team or one we’re going to be one of these teams that doesn’t know how to put teams away so I would like to think that with the experience we have and the players that we have that um that’ll happen sooner rather L than later and I definitely hope that it’s sooner rather than later which we all love to see before let you go here take me through what one or two keys you got tomorrow for tomorrow that you hope will start to get some good foot forwards and get that Victory to move back above the 500 Mark against Lexington yeah biggest thing tomorrow we’re going to have e Isler on the bump first them so that may probably be his first start for seniors so he’s already had a couple outings uh two two inning outing and a one inning outing versus mcook so uh he’s coming back from shoulder surgery so still kind of trying to take it easy on him he’s also our backup catcher but uh trying to make sure that we kind of space out his catching and his pitching so uh biggest thing for him is just you know I mean it doesn’t matter whether it’s Lexington or the Yankees it’s going to be his first start under the lights for seniors and there’s going to be some butterflies going so uh the quicker he can kind of realize that he’s out there for a reason season and we trust him to go out there and get out um and hopefully he’ll be one of those guys that kind of steps up as we move forward forward in the season love to see that well before let you go we got some news coming through the pipeline here today want to wish you a big congratulations on now becoming the head coach of the bulld doogs that was released here today you’re assistant coach last year so congratulations on being the new coach for next season still got some long time before we get there as you’ll probably see those guys next year but just big congratulations out there for you yeah thank you appreciate that uh just you know humbled and excited for the opportunity and uh look forward to kind of building off of what coach burn gotten us going this year and uh going to be going to class A for the next couple years so definitely going to have our work cut out for us but um you know I’m I’m down to put in the work I’m down to you know do whatever I can to help the program out and you know donate my time and my my knowledge and whatever I can to do so just excited for the opportunity uh but more than anything just excited that these kids get an opportunity to play high school baseball um and next year should have a fuller schedule so um yeah just really humbled um and excited and ready to get to work that’s we love to see and I love to see you tomorrow as well hopefully with a Big W over over your guys’ head and a big smile on your face that was head coach Ricky Hol we’ll see him tomorrow in action when we step
