inside this box could be the future of how golf irons are made or is it going to be a flash in the pan we’ll find out in today’s video so I was recently sent this very grandiose looking box it’s the first type of box I’ve ever received like this so shout out to COBRA for actually sending me one of these and it is the limit 3D box now it looks big and it looks special it looks it looks premium straight away even the feel of it but let’s get inside it and see actually what is in here because I’m quite excited to see nice pop a new realm of performance introducing the first ever 3D printed set of irons Cobra one of 500 limit 3D and there’s also a nice little card in here introducing Cobra limit 3D the first ever set of 3D printed steel irons now before we even read on after that first line the thing I would say about Cobra maybe their thing their trademark what they’re known for or what they’re trying to evolve and innovate and bring to the K more is 3D printing we’ve seen it in a line of golf clubs from a Kyle bur driving eyon into having a little polymer um pocket in the rad speed irons to a wedge they did with Ricky Fowler but then more so their 3D line of Putters they had one series of those and then they’ve recently brought out a new series of the 3D Putters so it’s not something that is new to them it’s something like I say that for them if you thought of maybe other brands they have ai in the face they maybe have carbon faces they have something that they want to try and push and for me Cobra is that 3D printing so no stranger that they’ve gone and try and make a set with the 3D printing in but here it’s saying a little bit about how they’ve used the printer to generate these irons been able to move weight around put different um materials in different parts of the club which I’ll get to shortly to help build this iron but let’s get it out of the box let’s see what it looks like it’s quite a nice experience look at that that’s quite an opening experience that is quite cool I was expecting a set of irons there’s only one iron in here which is a seven iron I can maybe understand why there’s only one of them when we actually did a research on one factor of these irons which we’ll get to a little bit later but let’s tell you a little bit more about these so now that we’ve got this Cobra limit 3D out of the box very nice presentation box why why would they make something like this like I said Cobra sort of own that 3D printing Market when it comes to golf it’s it’s something that like I say I think they want to be known for and it is interesting because one of their previous players who’s no longer signed with them Bryson actually had a set of 3D printed ions for the Masters now one thing about Bryson’s zons was that they were reported to be about 10,000 for that set of ions which is just ridiculous no one’s paying £10,000 for a set of ions so we’ll get into cost a little bit later on in the video with these irons but why would Cobra do this why would they go away from the traditional Avenues of forging and casting irons what are we going to see from the 3D printing what benefits is that going to bring to us so what the 3D printing actually allows Cobra is a few things first ly it allows for looks and performance to stretch into two categories and what I mean by that is actually when you get this club out of the box it does look really clean it looks very classic by the lattice that it’s called in the um sort of midsection of the back of the club other than that it looks very much like a player’s iron it looks bladed it looks muscle back it looks strong it looks like that back um that iron you would see in a player’s bag even from the Top Line it looks quite Sleek it’s not the sleekest looking sort of players iron that you would expect but it does look like it does have quite a thin Top Line and then toe to heel length of the blade it’s not again as compact as some players irons but it’s not as big and cumbersome as you would see from maybe the more forgiving irons the more distance iron the one that’s going to give you higher launches the ones that’s going to give you more forgiveness off those offc Center hits it looks like the the club that you would see in the players bag with the way that the actual construction is made though it then stretches in to the higher higher forgiveness the higher distance the more speed the more launch style iron that we wouldn’t see from the players iron because the body the steel body of the iron is fully 3D printed which allows 33% of the weight to be taken out and moved around the club head it’s got tungsten weights in the toe in the heel and by doing this in the way that it is constructed like I said that is moving everything towards that maybe higher handicappers iron but actually getting the players looking iron so for the person the player who wants a players looking ion but maybe doesn’t have the consistency the the speed to actually use the players Z they’re now going to be able to do this through the uh Cobra limit 3D so now comes the exciting part of the video where we’re actually going to hit these and what I’m going to be looking at is what they’re looking like behind the golf ball what they feel like and then also what that performance factor is like because it’s a players looking gion but it’s offering the more forgiving the more versatile more usable offerings when it comes to its technology I do think as well there is one issue with these irons that I’ll get to a little bit in the video so on here we’ve set up Kings barns 178 yards to the hole and for me I’m looking for about 178 yards of carry with a s iron so on the four sights software on here let’s see might even get a hole in one that would be nice but let’s let’s have a look at what these are looking and feeling like to start off with they’ already hit some just warming up and getting an idea but let’s give you a a little idea as we start to hit some shots [Music] off that’s a good start because that’s what this iron is designed to do if you’re not quite catching it you still get a good looking iron but you get a little bit of forgiveness it’s a good shot go in the [Music] hole that was close let’s hit this one and give you a little feedback on what it’s like looks wise and feel wise [Music] so we’ve hit a fair few now and I must say the the performance doesn’t match the looks but that’s a good thing because as cobra have stated with what they’ve tried to do with this IR they’re trying to put that forgiveness package in a player’s irons and actually when you put it in behind the golf ball it does that it doesn’t look like the more forgiving iron it’s not looking big it’s not looking clumsy we see that from you know more forgiving irons that the Soul’s bigger the top Edge is bigger the offset looks more pronounced as where with these irons they look small they look clean they look sort of like they’re really ready to pack a punch they don’t look like those forgiveness aspects from we see from those other irons so I think they’ve done the the job there very well of actually putting together that player’s eyeon look and then matching up into technology that we’ll get into when we’re talking performance very shortly but looks wise I think they like I say they’ve hit the nail on the head there it’s not the thinnest Top Line that you’ll ever seen it’s not the most sleekest looking players Z but when we look at other models from other manufacturers it wouldn’t really stand out from those and say that doesn’t sit here you know it does look like it belongs in those family of irons now when we’re talking field it’s interesting because it’s not forged IR it’s 3D printed it is a steel head it’s got the lattice and then it’s got the tungsten throughout it now for me it’s not the not the softest feeling iron which when I think of players irons I’m looking for that sort of softness off the face you want to know that you’ve got that forged feel you know the the companies that do that spring to mind and you know they they do provide that well but it’s not a a terrible feeling I don’t get me wrong that sense it just feels a little firmer than what I would maybe expect from a play as IR am but nothing that um nothing that’s that would put you off the iron and even on toe and heel strikes I think what is good is that you’re still getting some feedback off them you still get a feel and you still get an awareness that you’ve hid it from the toe and the heel you’re not sort of left thinking oh that was a really good shot you still get that awareness which I think from the forgiving irons sometimes that’s sort of looking at the you know the higher end of the handicap scale and um sort of strike location consistency you sometimes don’t get that so from a feel perspective it’s just a little firm but you’re still getting the feedback from where it is toe to heel now let’s talk let’s talk performance let’s hit a few more shots and then let’s have a look in fact at some numbers to see where we’re at with the performance of these oh that was a great shot that felt brilliant go in the hole go in the hole very close that’s an interesting one cuz I just caught that a little bit heavy where is it coming up still decent [Music] [Music] so let’s take a look at how the data is coming out for this Cobra limit 3d7 I am because like I’ve said throughout the video it’s a players looking iron but in a forgiveness package in the terms of the offering of what you would see now I would expect to hit my 7 iron around the 180 Mark and I think what we’ve got to caveat this with also is that any real bad shot that you hit the golf club isn’t going to fix that for you if you’re catching it two or three inches before the golf ball really up the equator of the golf ball missing the grooves tow heel side there’s not a golf club out there that can actually fix that for you that’s down to you as the player to do some work on our golf swings but overall just looking at some numbers that we’ve got here from the for sites um launch monitor an average carry number 170 yards so it’s down on where I would want it to be now obviously this golf club isn’t built for me it’s not my specifications but some interesting numbers that we would see if we compared this to where the PGA Tour averages are at the moment and I’m not saying that I’m a PGA Tour player but if we think of the equipment that they would be using they’re going to be using the blades the players type iron one um parameter that would stick out to me is launch Angle now this 7on is launching at 21.8 degrees for me the average launch angle of the PGA tour at the moment with a 79 is 16.1 degree so you know 5.7 degrees difference there but when we think again what this club is meant to do in terms of offer that ease of use that distance that launch that forgiveness it’s there if I’m launching it higher and I’m getting around about the spin that I would normally see this actually is spinning a little bit lower 5,740 revs of spin I’m not going to see the Optimal Performance for myself I would have to go and get custom fit on the tow heel strikes what I will say and as well these are average numbers so these are taking everything into account 170 there some of my best numbers if I just threw my table up what we would see is that on some of them I was getting you know more than what I would expect the uh a 79 to go there shots in there that are at um into the 180 Mark um we have a couple I think one 184 183 so there’s you know some shots that are going a little bit further but there’s also those ones that are a little bit shorter so it does offer that forgiveness overall it does offer that ease of use in terms of the launch in terms of its forgiveness aspect but it is just a little bit shorter than what I would see now I did say there was one big problem with these and this is where this is where I think we maybe have to take into account that these ions are going to be a limited launch so on the side of these irons it says one of 500 when you go onto Cobra’s website you have to register your interest for one of the sets of the 500 and for that the price tag is elevated it’s $3,000 which comes out to £2,300 and for what you get in terms of the performance of the irons the looks of the irons they’re very much just like another set of players ions in terms of what they would do but it is a limited set so does that mean people are going to be willing to pay the extra price point because you know you could be the only player at your golf club with a set of these irons will they go on to mass Market them I don’t know but for me 2,300 it’s not something that I would personally go and spend that amount of money on just to get this iron if it was a limited edition Tiger Wood set maybe you know that he’d hand signed or something I’d maybe inclined to go and look at that price point but for me I don’t think it’s worth that price but overall if they could bring this to mass Market in this head you know this offering of a bit more forgiveness on the players side of looks I think they could be on to something but they would just need to put it in line with what we see maybe the titless the mauno the tailor made the callaways of this world be in line with their price points because for me that’s the only issue with them they’re doing what they say they’ve got the players looking iron they’ve got the forgiveness from the more forgiving iron in the head because of the technology but 2,300 it’s just a it’s a nogo for me but again it’s a limited set so pretty decent let me know what you think in the comments of these irons would you go and purchase one at that price or would you just stick to something else but overall guys I hope you’ve enjoyed the video thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the new studio plenty more reviews coming from here soon thanks for watching we’ll see you in the next one

  1. First I've ever heard of "3D" clubs. Will admit, interesting concept though. Just a tad out of my normal price range. Would pass. Here I just went and got fit for some JPX 923s and the 3 weeks of waiting is going to nag at me for what I'm sure will feel like years! Loving the new studio setup!!!

  2. Thanks Matt, great stuff, wouldnt fancy cleaning the back of those clubs after a muddy round 👍👍👍👍👍

  3. Pricewise, maybe the 3D printing of golf clubs will go the way of many electronic devices. (Remember when basic pocket calculators once cost $150, or simple computers once cost over $1000?) If that $2300 goes to $230, then this could literally revolutionize the industry. If not, then sorry Cobra, you are screwed…….

  4. I was a bit harsh on Cobra when they had plastic 3D printing back on their Irons. I said it doesn't do anything, I think I said come back when you have metal 3D printing in your clubs. And now they do! It is actually incorporated in the design and has a function in the club head. Still a bit gimmicky with the open back so we can see the actual 3D printing. A bit hard to clean I suppose.

Stiłl, my hat off for Cobra for actually breaking new ground, making a real metal 3D printed club!

3D printing enables a new level of design possibilities. Exiting to see where Cobra takes this, if they can make it affordable. 👍

  5. I have been using the same cobra irons my whole life got them from my dad they are from 92 and I love the brand eventually I want to buy a new set of irons and I really want to get the cobra mb cb combo forged set from 2016 the black and orange just looks so nice

  6. Love the new studio but you need more golf stuff on the wall. Maybe hang the specials clubs like this one.

  7. $4100 CAD for 4-PW……..I have had occasion to be a bit mental by times…..but never anywhere near that mental.

  8. Love the fact they've spelt LIMIT3D wrong on the first line of the card 😀

Great review but they're just too expensive for the "3D" printed gimmick.

  9. One of 500 is on every box they have sent out, it was on another channel recently. It is likely the way of the future

  10. I definitely think as the process of printing the irons improves, the cost will significantly be reduced. I can’t imagine this is an easy process like the putters. Obviously Bryson had another company 3D print some irons for him so manufacturers are aware of the technology. No one is doing it at a large scale at the moment driving the price super high. Tell yah what though, if there was a way to make golf more attainable, printing would be the way to do it.

  11. How i think of it it’s kinda a marketing gimmick at first until it’s consistent. Examples are TM with Twist Face and Carbon Faces. Callaway with AI. I think Cobra is going to be the 3D Printed Brand and that’s just how the market is moving. Every brand will have their niche thing they do in this new age of golf
