have you never got into golf John what do you think I think there your B I think that I got to a point where I was too old not as too old to play but too old to start and I I didn’t have the time yeah yeah was one thing we work but I’ve just felt that it’s so complicated there’s so much to learn that scar to start it’s SC you to start cuz you know there’s so much work to go forward with well let’s hope this when when I was at um when I was at College yeah so I I did a degree in uh it was called human movement studies Recreation and dance basically PE right really but uh we did we did golf as as part of it didn’t go on a course but we learn you know we went through all the basics and and that sort of thing and we had football pitches and so we go and do a a class L on the on all the pitches yeah um so I I sort of get it KN cuz we did biomechanics that was part of our like biomechanics physiology Kinesiology all that you know human movement but so I kind of know the basics of yeah how how your body works and stuff like that but unfortunately my body doesn’t um respond function yeah coming in you got a pitching wedge all I would say John is I know it’s simp I know it’s easy for me to say is try and catch out middle of the club face Y and whether that club face is aiming at impact is usually where the ball goes you get I mean so thing as your as your foot on the end of your leg as a football there’s are relatable for you do I I always feel like I’m either bit too upright or won’t you don’t stand to it too bad to be honest don’t worry about it too much maybe just go up and uh go what you did for me as a kid growing up through soccer I’ll never forget so thank you very much and on the subjects of socceram it’s nearly a year isn’t it since it got yeah it’s coming up to a year it since it got absolutely got to Tin Tin tacky yeah did you look back socer around with fun fun memories I didn’t at first it was quite hard I be honest quite just dark place for a bit I’ll be honest with you it was like yeah it was just felt a bit C kind of like don’t know not let down just felt a bit sort of humiliated that it had kind of ended like it did you know um cuz everyone says to you you’d be fine you know you’ll get you’ll get work and I I did believe that initially but then cuz I want to with the ground running I wasn’t sitting there going oh yeah I’m just going to I’m just going to kick back a bit and wait till I get a job I was like on the phone and I was ringing up people and having meetings and going having coffees and you know what’s the direction to travel and all that it was just like and you walk in you kind of go you know you know within like 10 seconds when you’re in one of those meetings yeah like they’re just like this is a waste of time cuz that I can see they’re just they’re just they’re just being polite and they’re having the meeting and it’s fine and you know straight away and so go to it it was just it was always going to be hard for me to go and get a a job like soccer am to be a presenter does it exist and a producer on on no it’s qu kind of a unique role so I wasn’t I wasn’t under no Illusions and I and I I’d called it you know a couple of years back I wasn’t sitting around at Sky going I’m going to do this for the rest of my my days here I was going to my boss and the boss is going what what what’s going to be next you think what can I do what how can I how can I improve myself what can I do to get to cuz I want to stay and at the end I um when when it was when it was happening you know I I went and I sat and I looked at them all in the eye and I went are you happy for me to go bearing in mind that I’ve worked here all this time and and and it’s not about loyalty well you it’s about 20 odd years but that that’s not the point it was like are you happy to let me go bearing in mind that I’ve not not nothing to do with the loyalty but what I can add value to to the to to Skype you know that’s what I felt and I went and I had that conversation with with you know three senior people who were I got on great with you know it was there was no no issues in that sense but and and they they didn’t sort of say show me that there was there was anything there and and I would have I’d be there now i’ there I played for Jeff’s job yeah did I went for Jeff’s job I got I went for for Jeff’s job I got an interview for it because I was so desperate to show them that I want to stay I knew I was never going to get that job let’s have it right soer I mean come on you there beenal I mean I think you can do the voice I think wearing the wig and the suit yeah that’s what I mean I had the wig on I think that might have been a bit you know bridge too far but uh it wasn’t I knew when I went in that interview it was it was a liberating experience for me and because I knew I was like laying all my cards on the table there exposing myself going I want to here and and I’m going to try anything I can to stay yeah ultimately it didn’t it didn’t work out and it was really hard really had first Saturday back I don’t know it was late for you I went jogging first Saturday I was like I don’t know what to do cuz I’ve been I’ve been doing soccer for like 205 years so I just went I’ve got to do something I’ve just got to go and jog I was in holiday I was I was in holiday with the family and my head was so gone yeah yeah I came back I came back I said to I said to Kate and the I was like I’m coming back I just need to come back and get me I was just not not not good to be around at all and and I came back and I sat and I got up and I and I and I sat and I watched Sky all day sort of put myself through that thing of of and and it was uh it was yeah it was weird but you know after a while I I got to not missing it I got to I was so it was so entrenched in me that way of that that way of working you know do a show do 40 shows a season so you you finish that first show and then you have you have a de you’re already thinking about the next show and then you’re in that SLO and and it’s you know you say to people it’s a bit of a SLO and they’re like you tell you know you’re presenting a football show don’t get me wrong was best job in the world but it was relentless and so and then you finish that season and then you’re on to the next season pretty much immediately and it does and and I think I was just pretty worn out with it all creatively I was me Ed was I was just it was a lot felt you know it was I felt a lot of responsibility so ultimately ultimately I think for me to to go it was it was it was it would have it was probably right you know I didn’t you know I don’t feel like a lot of people that it was it was the right decision to get rid of sakur yeah that’s what that is my next question okay if you thought it was right for you at that time knowing now do you think that Sky have made a bad decision by not keeping a show like that with with all the years it’s been there I mean could have changed it out like socceram just no longer exist is that is that s is that a bad decision that’s what I’m asking it’s it’s not s and and and from from a and this you know this isn’t me saying it in in handset but I just felt that getting rid of you know a brand that would been built up not just not by me you know a brand that had started a long time ago by Sky right yeah but you were the one you were the one one of the people who started you and Tim love Jo in the gallery the originals but then we we left and and then and then I came back and eventually got got back to doing it again you know with you and and but I just felt it was a brand and and to me it was like from from a um a business point of view I was like you’re just going to get rid of a a brand and and who knows you know it might just be they might be like mothballing it and and then they bring it back at some point and um I can’t say it myself but it’s about it’s about the people as well in it it’s like whatever a thing is golf life’s golf life and if you’re not doing golf life you’re not doing golf life and not doing golf life I mean probably be all right without these two but uh but uh sorry but you it won’t be golf life yeah it’ be golf life in in name but um it wouldn’t be be the same but but I have no like animosity I’ve got and now I now I’ve now I’ve started to I I’ll always look back fondness in a fun way with it and and be grateful to to to to Tim and to Helen and Andy Aris and and you know everyone Andy Melvin and Vic and and who who gave me an opportunity to do that yeah and when I stop and I reflect and I take stock of what I’ve actually done it’s you know I had to do me CV I’ve not done a CV for AG I was going I’ve done all right here you know I’ve met a loot of good people I’ve interviewed a lot of people I’ve learned I’ve learned learn a lot of stuff I’ve got skills and I’ve got skills to pass experience hopefully I can now at that stage where I can pass some of that on and do some stuff and be be still be creative and still do stuff but still present I’d like to do present but I’ve got to present the right stuff and I know I’m a certain a certain vintage let’s say so I need to work that out and in my head I’m still a young young lad but I realized outwardly I’m not and that’s cool and I get that and so I’ve got to do the stuff that I that fits for me but I do think I’m quite young in my mind in the sense of ideas that I want to do and things that I want to make and I think there’s a vacuum not for say soccer am but there’s a vacuum for really good well-made um thought through content that looks great and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to make it I think there’s a lot of stuff there in football music you know you’re doing it you’re doing you’re you’re taking something that people love and you’re adding production value to it and you’re adding personality to it and that’s that’s a magical that’s a magical um combination and it’s very hard to manufacture because you got to have the right people and you got to have the chemistry yeah you you got to have the chemistry certain people have chemistry some people don’t have chemistry and things don’t work but it’s got to come from you know you you’ve grown up doing soccer M understanding how to make TV worked so hard to get to a point now where you’re here now and you’ve got to that level and you deserve everything that’s coming to you because you haven’t you haven’t cut corners and you haven’t you haven’t just rocked up and gone yeah I I can do this cuz I’ve got a phone and I’m going to do it and that’s not me being disparaging about um you know like influencers and people that because I get it I understand it I understand why they’re popular and fair play to them all and go and absolutely smash it but I think there’s a ceiling in terms of the quality because they they haven’t a lot of them haven’t learned how to to to make producing stuff and I think what’s going to happen is that there’s going to be the demand for quality for stuff like this is going to come back because I do think there’s a vacuum people want to see that they want to see that stuff so hopefully that’s what that I you got anything in the pipeline yeah I have so I’m hopefully going to be involved in in a new project which is going to be football and music and you know hopefully golf stuff you know maybe with you guys if we can you know get you get it over the line um entertainment clothes I want to try and do my live jacket yeah so it doesn’t exist at the moment but it’s going to it’ll be launching soon so hopefully uh that will that’s going to it’s quite daunting from going from not having anything to do to exting right really exciting and sitting there like worrying as you said on your phone having him cup of coffee something happening for you man good and and what was nice was what’s nice is someone’s gone and they’ve got they’ve got shown faith in me you know which was which was nice and I feel that um better it gives you confidence cuz you know I don’t know how you guys felt afterwards but I I I felt fla yeah I felt a bit humiliated the confidence was shot you shouldn’t be mate cuz an absolute Legend and you you did build soccer am from the early days mate and you should be so proud of glad I help helped helped you massively helped really as a bit of an Avenue to open up to talk about we’re like this channel so we’re using golf as the vehicle to talk about all absolutely so we’ll go off on we go off on tangents don’t we we go you do on to take it just freeze you up freeze you up to do it and it’s the great thing is we can it’ll be two way with the listeners and the viewers cuz it’s going to be a vodcast as well so you can watch it you can watch us and we need them as well cuz they’re going to help us design kit we want them involved want fans to get involved and support FC Bo it’s going to be even though it’s not real at the minute we’re going to make it it’s going to be a real thing we’re going to we’re going to get a team we’re going to get a manager we and and and then it’s an interview process as well um we had our first manager I’m not going to give it away we had our first manager on one of the series so it’s really good and we s it’s is so weird because we’re sitting there half interviewing them yeah and half finding out what they’re about so it’s great it does open up like your mind does go and um it’s just Fant it’s a great opportunity to like for us to to give to give back to the you so the interview is under the guise of an interview so when we get the manager in obviously we’re interviewing them to talk to them but we’re actually interviewing them for the role um and then what we do is we might we might we might recruit them we might take them on we might go not for me thanks said that and then the manager we interviewed went what hurry up boys I it forever didn’t he he’s blinded I lik his confidence I have to say but we know we got discussions to have we have yeah you got and so kits you know boots everything any anything we can talk about like not SL mot and then the crest
