and now we’re joined by founding member uh member founder how dare I say member match room Sports Barry Hearn after an incredible night of Dart saw 17year old yes he’s still 17 Luke ller crowned Premier League champion and Barry joins now good afternoon Barry hi Barry afternoon boys Barry thanks very much your your company I we were talking there about young managers and you know what it was like back in the day you know that 15 20 30 years ago you had big ronal S now we’re seeing Sportsmen at this level of darts 17year old Luke litner who has changed the face of has he saved darts do you think in some ways no no no darts is a huge Global business my friend you don’t save a business that’s so strong as darts but what he’s done he’s added another level to what is a very successful Sport and it will in time benefit everybody from kids that have been inspired by Luke L up to the existing Pros that will see bigger prize funds on the back of the commercial opportunities that now come alongside darts it’s it’s an amazing time to be a darts player yeah Barry obviously you I I remember very much watching a very young Steve Davis walk into the snooker world and start to dominate when you were when when when you were running that and uh and looking after Steve when you see someone like Luke ller and you see what he’s what he’s already doing what he’s capable of doing and I think the way he’s doing it Barry it’s some of these checkouts the way that he’s playing and he’s he’s actually not only wanting to win but he’s really wanting to entertain as well isn’t he I think basically he’s having fun you know youngsters are so dangerous in professional sport because they don’t have the pressures that established players have they don’t have wives mortgages kids whatever he’s just going up there I spoke to him for about 15 minutes after his semi-final yesterday I was absolutely amazed not a trace of nerves just an absolute I’m really looking for for to going out and entertaining the people and you know I think I can win he said but if I don’t I’ll win it next year he wasn’t putting any pressure on himself and that’s that’s a massive advantage over someone who maybe you know wants to stay high in the rankings I I I can see more similarities not with Steve Davis yes a little bit but someone like Tiger Woods who came along after everyone knew he was a good player he suddenly arrived on the big scene and dominated and he up completely elevated the sport to a new level for the and some people didn’t like it because you know who’s this newcomer coming in and I’ve been playing pro darts for 10 years it don’t matter in sport does it you boys know it matters how good you are yeah Dart is a Level Playing Field don’t matter who you are what you come from can you Chuck a d or not and it’s basically as simple as that and people like Luke ler are capable of doing what Tiger Woods did with golf in my view and they’ll be followed by hundreds of other kids that are already playing up and down the country across the world and realizing if you’ve got ability you can make a very handsome living out of it Jo what’s amazing though is that a 17-year-old is trying to inspire the Next Generation but he’s only a kid himself yeah I mean I remember Wayne Rooney um the uh the the BBC sports Personality of the year and people are criticizing Wayne at a young age cuz it is tie and dung and he he was chewing gum and it didn’t wasn’t a great look but I remember people Slaughter him saying but he’s a kid himself you know he’s going to this so you’ve got a 17-year-old inspiring the Next Generation but he’s still part of that generation no but the generation is inspiring the 10 year olds the niney olds what we’re seeing now is kids are going to birthday presents instead of getting a prize of a a box of chocolates or something they’re getting a dart board and we’re seeing 10 year olds knocking over 100 averages you so we’re all led by Heroes aren’t we I mean you know whether you’re promoting sport or playing you copy people whether you know it or not and you’re inspired because you want to change your life through Sport and we’re blessed that we darts they’ve got that opportunity yeah um the rising darts Barry you’ve been at the at the at the top of that has been pretty stratospheric over the last few years where’s it going to be in 10 years from now it’s going to be bigger than golf it’s going to be the Working Man sport around the world for millions of people with a low cost of Entry because you don’t need to join a club you don’t need to have expensive equipment you put your dartboard up in your bedroom and you just bashed the granny out of it you know and these kids are coming through all over the world what we’re seeing is not just we look at last night I was there it was fabulous you know 14,000 plus people getting value for money and most importantly in this world we live in today having fun having fun and and going back to work the next day and telling everybody about it so you get this compound effect of you know the snowball rolling down a mountain when it gets to the bottom it’s accumulated so much more and that’s what we’re seeing but the future listen I’ve been in the sports business for 50 years man and boy as a promoter never as a player like you guys you had the taste of of magic I didn’t but what we did have was a dream of where we could take Sports beyond the perception of people that existed when they used to look down their noes at D spls all those fat blow smoking cigarettes you know well it was it was it was a very different spot but here’s bar I’m going to challenge you here right apparently Luke only picked up £275,000 no he’s picked up £315,000 if you want to challenge me properly okay okay here’s the challenge yeah that’s not enough of course not it’s not enough I I’ve Just Seen A young 17-year-old there and everyone’s glued I watched it here at talk sport 14,000 people Sky there these boys now and you know the TW that’s when you think about what you mentioned there about other sports or other Industries are earning these guys now should be picking up million pounds to winning this when’s that going to happen they’re picking up millions of pounds during the season so that’s a point but really what you’ve also got to do you need sport to be led from the top because otherwise people are naturally selfish so we’ve got to make sure we’ve got a game that’s truly Global and everyone is earning more and more money there’ll never be enough because sportsmen and women they don’t accept enough look at boxers now you know 100 million here 50 million there every Sport’s different and it has to be grown properly to be sustainable sure and the problems you’ve got in your in your industry in football for example is most of these lower clubs are not sustainable that’s terrible for sport but a lot of that is because the people at the top are too greedy and want all the money so you’ve got to filter it down you’ve got to create a system that develops a sport for everybody and people like luk ler will be major part of that and they will be of course the people that you work for the other broadcasters we’re not going to be very pleasant with them because they are going to have to spend more money so it’s not just the sport it goes to the sponsors are going to have to pay more because we’re big and we know we’re big and we know what we deliver which is massive five million nearly five million people watch the world dart champ a football match on sky that got five million because Manchester Arsenal didn’t but the darts did so therefore we now have to commercialize a great success and then pass that money down to the Sportsmen and women that deserve it yeah Barry just finally just one little thing and I know it’s not necessarily anything that you can control but one thing Trend in today is very much the cost of of beers at these events not just the darts but at football at rock concerts pop concerts you name it it’s gone astronomical how do what do we do about thatal we hate it we hate we go to venues and we try to put as much pressure on them not to be greedy but you can’t stop people again it’s a natural thing in any business or any life to be greedy I think it’s a liberty and I think they should reduce the price of beer because it’s out of order you know what you’re paying for it and to sell something at eight quid of pine when it’s costing you a pound of pine it’s just too much I agree we’re fight we’re fighting as hard as we can to go to venues that take a better approach and a more you know more caring about their customer yeah Barry I appreciate your time the news did break earlier though that your boy Eddie is appearing on soccer raid I just want to know what what can we expect to see was he much of a a footballer when he was younger people can’t see listen I mean you’d enjoy watching him because he’s a lump and I’m I’m just his one yellow card from you you’re in trouble your mother will kill you this is a charity dude but he’s a lump he’s a half a Center forward he’s half a center half he changes Direction slightly slower than an oil tanker at se I’m not looking forward to this at all listen Barry appreciate your time bud have a fabulous weekend bar good luck pleasure boys good see you uh there we are Barry Hearn there you know I commentated on the very first soccer raid right and it and it had Mike Myers right Austin Powers who was I so bad as J was like he couldn’t even could barely put one foot in front of the other other never mind kick it would he harlson all these guys were playing and they were hopeless was now you see now it’s rolled on and now there’s some there’s some good players some tasty players they know they’re doing good yeah they do they do yeah uh let uh let’s look forward that’s in a couple of weeks time now news that our official betting partner paty power something very 1. When your the best on the planet u deserve it,compared to football players making that in 2 weeks and they are one of thousands

  2. When you consider Rashford is on £300k a week for sitting on a bench mostly. Littler's winnings do seem a bit on the low side.

  3. Barry wants all the money that’s for sure darts players get a fraction of the money it generates

  4. Has anyone ever thought that the UK Darts scene is massive is because its an excuse for fans to go on a massive piss up… try taking Darts to Saudi… 😂🍾🍻

  5. Barry Hearn has been brilliant at making money but is, and always will be an idiot when it comes to talking about sport.

  6. He has no fear even after a bad 3 darts he steps up the same every time the fact he can just jump up to the level he has in front of the crowds is amazing he's hitting 9 darters and winning the same events as Phil Taylor and he's only 17. I saw yesterday he's been throwing darts since 2 so that's 15 years already lol that's mental.

  7. Hearn is a ponce like his son who only cares about money & how he can fleece the public with his robbing prices..

  8. Hearn and his son are con men, they do work in the legal world unlike drug dealers.
They (the Hearns) have worked out how to manipulate and own the promotions of darts, snooker and boxing.
They are now in a position to sell there promotional assets to the Saudi clan because it is a tax free nation,.
The high ranked players of any of these sports will back this scenario because all prize money will be tax free, they will be required to open a Saudi bank account though. F the fans

  9. Hes only 17, so i wonder how long it will be before the money changes him? We'll be able to tell when it happens cos he will bin his school GF for a a cash hungry top tottie super wag slag 😂😂😂

  10. Barry hearn discussing the price of pints "i hate it" he hates it cuz he isn't getting a cut. And then calls em greedy. The irony of Barry calling anyone one greedy cracks me up.

  11. I totally agree about the Tiger Woods comparison. Tiger changed the game and specifically the prize money in golf ten fold. Littler should have been paid more for sure but it will happen now.

  12. Wouldn't call it a working mans sport, £9 a pint in the venue is not value for money, it's pure greed

  13. When we went to the world final 5-6 years ago, you had to buy beer vouchers before going to the bar. The sign above the bar said it closed at 10:30pm so we stocked up on vouchers to save queuing twice.
Then because the match was looking likely to be over fairly quickly we went out to buy the rest of our drinks only to find the bar was closed at 9:30pm with no way for us to get a voucher refund.

As a group this cost us £50 in unclaimed vouchers.

    Felt robbed!!!

  14. If you compare it to other darts competitions i would agree because of the effort they go to however sports money is ludicrous already and doesnt need increasing

  15. Privileged (hard working nonetheless) sportsmen should be paid more, but gamblers need to pay more on already edged bets according to Barry.

  16. He only throws darts for 15 20 minutes. And earns plenty . The real working men who graft 8 12 hours a day just to survive should be earning more
