context on the Rangers win three things on this one as New York picks up win number 35 at home this season but by far the most important one they’ve gotten it’s tied for the second most Ina season in franchise history only one where they won more 9394 where of course they won the cup Florida has been absolutely spectacular on the road in the playoffs this snapped a four game Road winning streak the loss also snaps a game win streak in the Conference Finals which dates back to last year when they swept Carolina this round and scoring was opening open with Vincent troch for the Rangers his seventh in a dozen games this postseason the first 40 playoff games of his career he had just nine but he’s been great when he has needed to be as for the longest home streaks ever allowing three or fewer goals give your team a chance right well that is what eigor has done you see the kind of company he’s keeping it’s legendary and shurin able to keep the Rangers in it Barkley goodro with a little bit of magic wins it for the Rangers and Mark Messier joins us now you know all about this time of year you know all about what it takes to win these games and I just ask you this the pressure the tension in that building knowing we lose this and we’re done history says like one and 19 all time you lose the first two at home mark how how do you play with a pressure that’s got to be suffocating well you rely on your instincts you know they’ve been doing this for a long time all the through the regular season they’re working on their their game plans their individual responsibilities as a team uh and so you just trust your instincts your confidence comes from the Reps that you’ve put into your whole life to get to this point and you don’t think about the outcomes when you’re playing at this time of year you think about what your individual responsibilities are to the team and as a team and uh the Rangers responded great tonight they had a tough game one they all knew it there’s nothing worse as an athlete and having to sleep for two nights in a row knowing that you didn’t play up to your potential but they responded the way they had to and the way they’ve done all year actually tonight in tonight’s game and they got a massive massive win tonight against a strong Florida panther team they don’t win it obviously without eigor doing what he did I just alluded to the kind of consistency not just tonight Mark but but when you know the man standing behind you is erasing any mistakes that that might be made in front of him how does that help the kind of confidence that exists in the room when a guy likes your sturing your keeper you know I think everybody’s heard me say it over and over and over again the goenda and when a you got a goal tender like voski or shesterkin for that matter uh the team can relax and play their game knowing that if there is a mistake if there is a breakdown which is going to be during during 60 Minutes of hockey mistakes do happen he’s there to to cover up for most of them at anyways uh you know a competitor uh he plays a kind of game that’s calm uh he’s not a guy that flops around a lot so he’s not a heart attack goalie as you would as you can say to some Styles uh so I think it gives a team a lot of confidence and I think they love playing in front of them which all great goenda finger all the years that I’ve been watching him play now uh you know it’s team first for him and he only cares about the W the W and that’s the most important thing for a goenda has been awfully good bosi on the other side obviously for the Panthers pitch to shut out and it was one goal into the overtime here until the uh the little bit of magic there from uh Barkley there on on a bit of a break I uh I want to have a little fun here before we say so long because look if we if we do nothing in sports we love to remember the past and I flip back in the in the calendar of my mind 30 years to the day you made a famous guarantee you said you’re going to win you hung a little hat trick on the devils and then of course we know what happens in game seven and of course we know what happened uh and June 14th I believe it was as you told me when you on with me a couple of a couple of weeks ago I’m not asking you to make a guarantee mess necessarily of what we’ll see the rest of the series because you’re not on the ice to impact it as you were back when you made this famous guarantee well you’re right Scott it’s always nice to be able to do something about it if you are going to make a guarantee but uh as far as going forward in the series I think we’re going to see a lot more of what we saw tonight I think this is the kind of game we expected in game one the Rangers had a tough night so the game was kind of a little bit lopsided even though the score didn’t show it but this was a game that really was a war of attrition in a ways it was tough every inch of ice was battle was a battle for uh both teams are really skilled but you can see where the skilled players don’t have a lot of room to uh to break free um this is going to get down to you know the technical part of the game the structure of the teams not making mistakes uh at this time of year if you’re out two feet out a position near you’re out a mile so and both the way both golender are playing uh you can expect a lot more of what we saw tonight going forward in this series hey B Scott can you hear me I can hear you oh great there we go all right I had you then you lost me there now we’re together again just describe the emotion after the after the Euphoria Fades is it is there a a bit of relief because the world’s got to look different at one1 as opposed to 02 yeah I think there’s a lot of relief just because I saw them gathering around the Penalty Box and I thought maybe it was off sides or something so um seeing that it was a good goal I think there was a lot of relief there so often this time of year it’s an odd bounce something goofy happens but it felt like what goodro did there is a bit of magic right and he’s out there for draws and then the hands to to gather and then the to get it back and bury it how do you describe the play that won you this game yeah he’s been outstanding these whole playoffs he’s doing everything for us and um that shot was beautiful like you said a lot of these overtime goals in the playoffs are pretty dirty but um that one was really nice I was just asking Mark Messier about playing with tension I how do you how do you do that right I mean cuz I as they were describing and Ray Ferrar on the broadcast is saying look you can’t worry about making mistakes just got to play but I mean given the stakes man I I I just I’m asking you to sort of give me your best explanation of that I think a lot of that comes from experience um a lot of these guys have on on our team have been deep in the playoffs have had playoff runs um I know for me personally my first my first time in the playoffs first round second round didn’t matter um game one game seven I was nervous every game I think after playing a few few years in the playoffs going deeper you learn that it’s it’s not just another game but you have to treat it as so you got to be tension free you got to play your game and you got to know that um whatever got you here is what’s going to get you to the next level right on that makes sense and you’ve been a big part of that and had a goal to get it started tonight and then and then eigor just doesn’t let pucks P him the broki’s been a wall as well but I ask you to describe what I asked mes to describe the the the level of confidence that exists when you’ve got a guy behind you like EO right now yeah I mean he’s the best in the world every night he brings it and um we have a lot of confidence in him we know that if we do make a mistake he’s back there to stop the puck for us um and that goes back to the last question that helps a lot with uh playing tension free but both these goali have been playing outstanding so far in the first two games and um it’s going to be a battle to get pucks past them Sunday afternoon down in Florida and on the way out Vincent I’m not asking exactly what you’re doing because it’s none of my business but it’s a Friday in theity and the Rangers just W to no I’m sure you’re tired but the night is young in many ways where where we where we headed where we headed my man if I tried to go anywhere my kids would kill me right now go daddy’s coming home Daddy scored the Rangers won thanks for taking a minute to visit with us here man be well and good luck the rest of the way all right thanks Scott appreciate it [Music] [Music]
