This is The 3/15/1968 Dayton vs Kansas game. 1968 NIT Championship. It is a Color Film with TV Audio. Don Criqui calls the game. It was Don May’s last game at Dayton and he was selected MVP of The Tournament. The Jayhawks countered with a Budding Star in Jo Jo White. The game is joined in progress in the first half but runs through the end. I claim no rights to The Film or Audio but I did author this combination.
Bruce slan holding the bot above his head gives it to Jojo white starting to move on gel JoJo white comes out with the rebound here’s Don may now at the outside the ball is knocked Away by JoJo white look at him Jo taking the B and in for L time off for the rebound for gets the break as JoJo white the easy kill and the ball comes down to Sader go the B out sad gets two and it’s now 16- 15 16- 16 all tied up Roger bfield com back into the game for Greg Douglas all of a sudden this game looked like going to pull away they were up by 8 14- six and now Dayton comes literally flying back and they’ve tied the game 160 with the score J 16 and the University of Kansas 16 we’ll be back with more nip action in just a moment The Jayhawks went out in front 14-6 but since then they’ve hit a dry SP and Dayton has started to move Rick Bradshaw from Chicago Spain basketball school Marshall hey ring in back court D the slow JoJo white and glad back on the jump Bruce SLO gives Kansas the lead at 18- 16 Bruce slone getting his first point 6 minutes and 5 Seconds to go in the first half as Don n throws in sadly to Bobby Jones and once again Bobby Jo is on time as Jon coach Don Doner comes to his feet Kansas has the ball with the game TI at 18 here’s Roger Bon steeld working against Sader and Roger Bon stei RS the Bas the drop three so now the J Haw go back in front J 20 to 18 for throws back to gacho Don May on the far side of the Court moving across now the lane coming to the near side right side of your screen falling for the ball that’s May with it hey thises everything they hit iron as the ball comes down to Rich Brad they going the turn around shot and the rebound comes down to Bobby Joe Hooper in the up Court he is accused of pushing off and getting position for the rebound that’s Bobby Joe’s second personal and the Flyers look on as do The Jayhawks and those Jayhawks seem to like the idea of a foul in Bobby Jo Hooper right now the score is Kansas 20 and Dayton 18 and there’s Timeout on the court and now we return to our Studios for this Miss rebound taken by sadle working in there for Dayton with SC who has the ball and Bobby Joe Hooper in back court alra and D up front with Sader Hooper has the ball on the outside lops a pass in sadly you’re driving the left side of the lane we have a whistle and a foul call it’s going to be against Kansas first personal fou and Bruce SL Al if you notice the last two times down Kansas didn’t go into his so they throwing this on uh every now and then to as a surprise and it’s working pretty much also I think that you’ll find that the dayon team will be going more to number 42 because he’s he can shoot a little bit better than Don may I believe from the distance that he has to shoot from and Don May won’t be shooting in too close because of a big sers Kansas defense obviously geared to stop Don Nave but Hooper has been a big weapon for d so far he has eight points May has two on the rebound the ball is taken off by Don May and side court so Kanas leading 20 to9 Dayton has the ball here’s Don nay starting to drive on Douglas he gets the shot up no basket we have a foul call and Don May will go to the free throw line for Jason by tomorrow CBS will televise a National Hockey League game between the West division’s Minnesota North Stars and the Pittsburgh Penguin these two clubs are presently in close battle for the final playoff spot in the west he grew up two blocks away from the Dayton field had dozens of scholarships decided to go right down the street when it came time to select one Dave M offs the traveling for the jar and so Theo back now to D the clock is running with 3 minutes and 48 half and the game high to 20 relatively low scoring game neither Team FAST breaking both with a patched offense Bobby Joe Hooper from the outside in by D and sadly are following it in and now Dayton makes the lead 22 to 20 ran Dayton has the lead for the first time in the game Roger Bon with a turn shot hit for the J Hawks and they’re back now in a tie at 22 All Roger Bonfield getting his fourth point we have 2 minutes and 55 seconds to play in the first half Dayton has the ball the game is tied at 22 outside to d d hit the jump shot we have a foul call against o gravic underneath on Dayton I believe the basket will count it does it’s 2422 D but OIC positioning for the rebound that never came is accused of a personal foul and so they come back down to the canas end of the floor and Kansas will shoot a free throw you see Don May itching in itching itching in rather right close to the spot that he likes he has a way of looking for a spot knowing when he gets there that’s his shot the bonus shot is in effect now for Kansas as Dayton is over the 16 F limit controls the tap and Dayton has possession Dayton is leading 24-23 at the half we’ll be looking at some highlights of the Harlem Globe Crowder show that’s coming up next Friday night on CBS and we’ll also watch Al Bryant with some of that GL Crow wizard that was Don May missing and the rebound comes off the SL of 10 as JoJo white comes up toward quickly for The Jayhawks number 15 is white over to slow underneath to Nash guarded by OIC Nash look in the turn around jump shot and Kansas is back in the lead 25 to 24 25 24 there you saw JoJo White Moving about to the side so he can get it into the pivot that’s one of the best move to get the ball into the pivot this is Jim gotel now throwing the bot underneath intended for Dan bravic it was knocked out of bounds by Dave Nash and so Dayton will get the ball back in bounds into Dan Sadlier Bobby Jo Hooper Now setting things up slowly Kansas leads by a point 252 24 Bruce Sloan steaming the ball knocks it over to W fine defensive play by Sloan of panes and here’s Jojo white shooting for the j-hawks rebound is down to O bravic and they are mixing it up underneath going for those rebounds 127 to play in the first half Kansas 25 Dayton 24 Don May outside close to Bobby Joe Hooper looking for May May with the ball guarded very closely by Phil Haron here’s Hooper driving inside we have a whistle and a foul call at the against Bruce Sloan of Kansas number 31 Sloan getting his second personal foul and Bobby Jo Hooper goes to the free throw line he comes into the game averaging just over 15 points a game from Le Creek Ohio TI 25 111 to play in the game in the first half with the game all mounted up now 25 all JoJo white mov the ball for Kansas throws it over to Sloan Roger Bon Ste throw intercepted by Tim goel of D so now we have 53 seconds to play in the half the clock running 50 seconds to go in the first half game is tied at 25 off Dayton with thought possession here’s Bobby Joe Hooper Dayton playing for the short shot Don May has it now starting to drive the Baseline loses control of the ball and it’s up the hands of Don May Don May is fighting for his position he’s rushing it just a little bit I’m sure you’ll see an entirely different game from Don May the second half once he goes into the Z and gets the St together JoJo white on the outside guarded by Goo hands is working a play inside the Nash spinning off the side of the lane the rebound is up to Jim go up toward to Hooper 1 second Bobby hoer firing it up wasn’t that far off at the buzzer High the score at the halftime now is Dayton 25 Kansas 25 we’ll be back with our halftime entertainment in just 1 minute as the second half is underway Kansas controlling the tap and moving to your right joejo white throwing up the jump shot and the rebound is down to Don May game five 2525 National invitation tournament championship Bobby Joe Hooper holds the ball as Dayton plays for aot we’ve seen throughout the first half and for that matter throughout the tournament Dayton comes into this game with a tail win to 13 consecutive victories had some roughs going early in the season lost six games lastt of points Don May and Don May is right he can really show you something from the outside tremendous shot as does JoJo white two of the best Shooters we’ve seen to all Americans who find great ball Douglas looping the ball into Roger Bonfield and bonen field go Charing so the ball now comes back over to Dayton and as D brings the bot up slowly everyone at CBS would like to thank the tournament Committee of the national invitation tourney for their tremendous cooperation in certain Le to be congratulated on the tremendous success thisy has now it’s D may get the bottom the far corner he draws the bou from field here you notice that Don May is going deep into the corner and moving out towards the ball he’s coming to meet the ball better now they get him the ball and he can draw defensive man out on him which you saw just in 2825 D May steing the ball and Dayton is back in possession in the game for Dayton got to who has the ball and Bobby go for working in the back line attic is the big man sadly at May are the forwardness is Don May rebound down to Big Dave Mash of Kansas as the j-hawks come back down here’s JoJo white dribbling the ball Bill Haron up against Bobby Jo Hooper looking for the big man inside can’t get the ball to and throws it over to Douglas 68 Greg Douglas jump shooting rebound is off to O bravic and we will have a jump off Dan OIC 610 and Phil Harmon 64 we’ll go up we’re early in the second half Dayton is leading 2825 as o’ bravic easily controls the tip Jim gatu with the ball for dton he’s up against JoJo white Don May is playing on the right side of the lane as the ball is spped in the back court Bobby Joe Hooper couldn’t quite contain it before he went over the midcourt line so we have an over and back violation a violation that gives possession to the ball of the Kansas J Hawks now Richie Bradshaw is back in the game Bradshaw number 12 at the top of Green in the dark uniform canas wearing red D in white Roger Bon steel getting position Rog B and gets the bucket 2827 Roger OPP Ste the machine conly working and the rebound comes down and a foul called against a man the score is Dayton 28 Kansas 27 and we’ll be back with more N Action in just a moment this is Don cricky with Hal Bryant back at Madison Square Garden before a crowd of over 19,000 Dayton and Kansas squaring off for the national invitation tournament Championship Dayton came back it was noted at the halftime 25 all o bravic put Dayton out in two points 2927 JoJo white looks for the big man and now Dave mates to turnar around jump shot and D gets the rebound at 64 one of the leading rebounders in the country averaging almost 16 a game he has good jumping ability but overall he is the timing is so necessary for a great rebound May is find to free himself going either side of the lane cutting back and forth looking for the pass now a a quick foul by n fed by Dave Nash that’s second Dave Nash getting a second personal foul the Masters tournament starts at 400 p.m. eastern time the Masters gal tournament coming up in 3 weeks here on CBS it is now 30 to 27 Dayton is in the lead and Kansas has the ball JoJo white trying to penetrate with a quick between the legs dribble the ball goes on the left side now and inside the Roger B by Roger bonus Ste comes up with the points he now has eight 30 29 and it’s 30 to 29 as Kansas comes back to within a point Bobby Joe Hooper holding the ball Clos to O bravic Don May is positioned at the left side of the lane number 21 watch him when you can because he’ll be moving to free himself for the ball the Hallmark of any great Point producer moving without the the ball setting himself up here is May getting at the free throw line get free for the jump shot by you mention moving without the ball down that means that the man that whip the ball pass the ball to his teammate and move sharply toward the basket if he does that he has a real good chance of getting Lo Kansas trailing 32-29 cot by m we have a whistle underneath and the foul follow on John May of Davis that is his second personal foul as May at 64l is accused of pushing off as he fights for the rebound from 610 Dave Nash I think that Dave Nash has four fouls on him now double check that see but if he gets in trouble on fou we will be in trouble Kansas will be P Nash only has two with this junk oh he’s in pretty good shape either team is in real foul trouble Greg Douglas at Kanas does have three and four Dayton players have two but no one in any immediate danger of fouling out right Jim gotu with the ball moves into the far corner and throws out to Don may as Rich Bradshaw has the job of stopping May here’s May taking jump shooting now 34- 30 as behind by four and Don nay has just broken the D scoring record with the 1, 1970th point now recorded in his personal record book look at Joo White Pass right back 3432 3432 I think Don may had a little talk with his coach when he was in his restant to steal about 2 more ft toward the basket and this is just what he’s doing this time me only 6 ft tall but he really plays like a ball player than 6 by 67 on offense and defense Bobby Joe Hooper on the outside with the ball for Dayton playing with two broken fingers left hand is taped almost like it’s in a cast from the fingers on down the Dayton coach Don Doner on his feet shouting out instructions and now we have a whistle we see to call as a 5sec violation that forces a jump off there is Bobby Jo Hooper’s bad hand 5sec violation they failed to get the ball away and so that forces a DP against Cooper tap is controlled and let’s see we have it jump again so we’ll jump it up again at the Dayton free throw line 36- 32 is the count Dayton is in the lead and Sader takes it and goes outside the gel 13 Jim gel here has the twin brother Jer godu has not been in the game yet they LED Dayton Shaman to the Ohio state championship a couple of years ago buff mores here is the jump cut by joh May that is no good but as you see r hand up as he is accus in a personal foul is second d goes to the free throw line for Dayton dougas number 20 is for Hawks replacing first Bradshaw gets the rebound for The Jayhawks and Kansas hurries down the court 37-32 is the score Dayton has a five-point lead before over 19,000 Madison Square Garden National invitation tournament Championship Game 12 minutes and 20 seconds to play in it it was tied at the half 25 all o’ brck knocks the ball away from Nash and JoJo white gets it back by the midp line here’s joejo from 25 fet and sadly it was a rebound here comes out of break two on two Hooper leaks away the ball is knocked away and Bobby Jo hooker go sailing right into the Kansas F the power is on Richie Bradshaw and Bobby Jo hooker goes to the free throw line and there is a Dayton fly at looking on as Bobby Joe sets up at the free throw line for Dayton later today and many of these CBS stations the award-winning CBS Scout class brings you a first round match with George Archer and Doug Sanders meeting Bobby Nichols and Ray Floyd at the Firestone Country Club this is the fifth annual CBS Golf Classic Golf Classic is team bestas ball MCH play tournament with $200,000 in total prize money and $50,000 to the winning team may left threee pass inside to W braic his turn around jumper jump is up as Bobby Jo Hooper let shot tie up Bobby Joe Hooper is 100% h he having it really is even though that injured hand is hamping him a bit he’s still in there fighting Dayton with a very patented offense here’s the Le half to damier so nowton takes another six-point lead 40 to 34 we have 10 minutes and 4 seconds to play in the game c and Dayton for the national invitation tournament Championship a good move coming across the L and Kansas is back to within four 40 to 3 at the top of the key is Dan Sader to Bobby Joe Hooper who holds the bot above his head and underneath a foul on jojo white his first that was a prime example of moving without the ball Don May picked his spot pass the ball off and moved for forward with great speed to his spot and joj had to block him out would have been wide open for a shot D May has now scored 16 he has already broken the alltime Dayton scoring record today he set an alltime rebounding record the other night here is a long lead pass inside a beautiful lead pass by JoJo white he hit Bruce Sloan who is cutting for the hoop as the Kansas CH goes High to salute the play it’s 4138 now as JoJo white back the away from will come back in bounds to Dayton Kansas clide three Dayton in the lead with the ball [Music] here’s a lead pass executed nicely again as clown hits rer Bonfield cutting for the hoop is R Bonfield and a jhawk f and it’s now 43 to 40 nton lead cut to three the same play but and he picked up a personal foul running headlong into a can player as Don Doner comes to his feet the score is Dayton 43 and Kansas 40 and we’ll be back with more nip action in Sader is now scored nine points there is Jo Jo White with a free throw and the rebound com up to a Gra Don May in the corner started by Rich Marshall about JoJo white now as may go he is fouled by white joio white gets his second personal foul one allam against another Don May is back at the free throw line for dton 44 to 40 and D May gets the second D May has now scor 20 points B in the lead 45 to 40 and Kansas calls for a timeout so Kansas calls for a timeout as they fall behind by the biggest number of points in the game they’re down 47 to 40 and there is Kansas Coach Ken Owens Kim Sadlier canas in the game with him Rich Marshall JoJo white Roger Bowen steel and Greg Douglas nton working with Bobby Joe Hooper Jim gacha Don May Jim Sadlier and D OIC rebound out by OIC it’s taken by Roger Bon steel of The Jayhawks here’s JoJo white 4742 lead2 Bobby Joe Hooper comes over the timeline and just before a five violation was going to be called against him as he was pinned in by a Zone press he calls for time out 881 to 78 so Notre Dame finishes third in the NIT and Kansas and Dayton are now deciding who is going to be Champion with 626 to go Dayton has the lead content to work the clock now 6 10 to play Let’s see what the call is now we have a whistle it’ll come back inbounds to D knocked out of bounds by player Sadlier 33 putting it in sophomore Jim Goa working against JoJo white d n holding the ball gets it back outside to saier here’s D May moving against Greg Douglas lead pass inside toic he can’t handle it and up with the ball as Bon steel over to White and new come Kansas on a semi bre JoJo white inside the bonus field with a perfect lead pass and Roger bonus field can’t get the hoop inside knocked up his hands Val hoer makes possession for D 525 to play in the game d Sader holds the ball for Dayton throws it to Don n at the top of the key out of bounds and Dayton loses possession The Jayhawks take it over Kanas gets back to ball as JoJo white leads him down quickly Quick Pass inside the D Don May is off the rebound for D and so D is back in possession as pan has missed the end shot Bobby Jo Hooper dribbling the ball to the free throw line comes outside now and a foul is fall against joj JoJo white pick up his third personal foul really think littley his free throws put Dayton out in front by seven 49 to 42 number 15 is JoJo white has the ball for going up between 68 Greg Douglas and 66 Sloan to get it here’s Don May starting his by the Baseline he is through for 5142 and Don May has broken the ball game open almost singlehandedly here in the second half he has scored 17 points so in second half the as 22 in the game and Kansas now fails by 95142 Roger bingfield Shoots for the jart the rebound comes down to Bruce CL and we have a loose B and picked up by Bobby Joe Hooper so dton is now on the driver’s seat 350 to go and they lead by nine H there you just saw Don playing the agressive game that he knows how to play he did slow it up a little too much the last time down FL he lost the ball so he decided to go back to playing the game that he knows best that is an all out inside game knocked out of bound by Kansas so D will maintain Poss now’ll put it back into play right now we have a Timeout on the score with the score Jon 51 cansas 42 and we’ll be back with more NP action in just a moment D has moved out in front by nine points 51 to 42 Dayton moving on in the second half behind an outstanding offensive performance and rebounding performance by the All American forward Don n he has 22 points in the game 17 in the second half we were tied at halftime at 25 all but now Dayton has a 51 to 42 lead a nine-point advantage and they have the ball with little time remaining 3 and A2 minutes to go May holding it gives to gotel Dayton undoubtedly now will go to run the clock JoJo white knocks the ball away from Bobby Joe Hooper he Dives for it and JoJo white picks it up a step on the inbounds line the jhawk gets possession but lose it quickly and there is Don Doner the Dayton coach shouting out 3 minutes and 12 seconds to go in the game now the rebound is taken down now by Sadlier with three minutes left to go in the game and Dayton leading 51 to 42 there you saw the versatility of Don May passing off he had a shot himself but he passed off now I think caner will have to go for the long shot John May comes down with the rebound and gives it off to Bobby Joe Hooper and so now Kansas is got to hustle and get the ball back if they’re going to come back into this ball game they’re down by nine 5142 a minute and 57 seconds left to play in the game second 53 the 42 here’s Roger bonen steel with a turnaround jump shot and now Kanas comes back and trails by 9 5344 with a minute and 40 seconds to go JoJo white going for the ball Jim GOI dribbling for Dayton Bobby Jo hoer in possession now for the Flyers he’s up against white Dayton in the white uniforms running the clock they have the lead 5344 as they come within a minute and 20 seconds of their second n Championship they won at the last they were in the tournament back in 1962 Kansas forced the foul to get back the ball and that is the fourth personal foul on jojo white standing just behind Bobby Joe Hooper who will shoot for Dayton and it’s 5544 Dayton JoJo white throwing it up for the Jay hawkson Don May going high over the r take the rebound and here is a three-on-one fast break situation as Hooper leads the way down but he wants to run the clock no 1 minute to play in the game Dayton with the ball at a 10 11-point lead 5544 20008 fans picking up the chance at we’re number one Dayton runs the clock 45 seconds to go stay tune immediately following for the awards presentation the most valuable player and the allstar team of course the championship team which appears is going to be dat 36 seconds left in Kanas fou again the foul is against Rich Bradshaw his third and it Jim gotel to the free throw line for Dayton and some of those Dayton players on the floor are all smiles and they have the big lead now 5544 36 seconds left to go to the game 5644 as Dayton closes it on the nip Championship ktim go hits again for scored six points and now Bobby Joe Hooper comes out of the ball game for Dayton for the last time as the six foot senior from Le Freak Ohio gets the standing ovation from a good part of the crowd here at Madison Square Garden Dayton leads by 11 22 seconds left to go in the game coming up court for with the ball is Jim Gill and he is foued by Bruce Sloan of Kansas has a couple of sub game5 Carpenter and number 35 George jke and now joh May comes out of the game thats the home story senior Don May perhaps the greatest basketball player in Dayton history the game and the probation is tremendous joh do you have any doubt about who the MVP will go to I don’t want to predict this but there’s some possibilities I may be right in there running for just might get that here’s a foul on Harman ofas that will send GOI back to the free throw line Jerry got you now in the game the twin brother of Jim who played throughout almost the entire game g go theow 60 to 48 Daton by 12 6148 Dayton by 13 points and they’re 7 seconds away from the NT title at the buered by D bers the 1968 n Champion the D fir the final score Dayton 61 Kansas 48 and Madison Square Gard is bed right now there’s a player up on top of the basket a fan of a the basket bounc uping down

When the NIT was held in higher regard. Expanding NCAA Tournament to 64 teams in 85 reduced interest in NIT. Jo Jo White was quite a player with Boston in the NBA.
14:42 Don Criqui’s analyst was Hallie Bryant.
Thanks for this cool find!
