Reacting to the Scottie Scheffler arrest footage from Valhalla Golf Club | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1

so there was a press conference we brought that to you earlier today uh in Louisville Kentucky with Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg and the Louisville Metro Police Department chief Jacqueline Gwyn Villa roel uh and the big takeaway from that was that the arresting officer detective Gillis did not have the body warn camera operationally ready as is required by policy has received corrective action in line with disciplinary protocol there were two cameras that did capture what happened one was a fixed pole camera the other came from a police dash cam in a police car that video has been released and we’ll bring that to you now this from the fixed pole position and keep an eye on your upper left that is Scotty sheffer’s SUV and you see the gentleman in the yellow jacket that is uh detective Brian Gillis appears to be conversation or an exchange of words Scotty’s still inside the car you can see traffic has come to a standstill remember what had happened just after five the fatality so there’s just a lot of congestion and confusion and Chaos in the darkness and in the rain Scotty will exit the car again upper left of your screen now he’s being led away that is just outside the entrance to the club at Valhalla and this is just after 6: a.m. eastern time on that Friday morning and so here’s a look now from the dash cam inside the police car there’s Scotty on the left of your screen being led away he’s already handcuffed he was arriving close to 3 hours before the scheduled tea time but because of the congest question around the fatality those tea times were moved back and so this now the statement from the arresting officer Brian Gillis while directing traffic in front of gate one the PGA Personnel stopped the bus from entering gate one I oversaw a vehicle traveling in the opposing Lanes coming at me I stopped the driver and advised him he could not proceed because of the bus he demanded to be let in and proceeded forward against directions I was dragged knocked down by the driver I then proceeded to arrest the driver Rex hogard has been following this story for us Rex you just saw the video as we all did what do you think you still don’t get a really good look of exactly what happened when detective Gillis and Scotty Sheffer first encountered each other it happened about 6:02 a.m. and now that we have the dash cam footage we can start connecting a couple of dots but as you showed just a moment ago you can’t see around the bus that stopped in the middle of the lane the same for the fixed pole across the street you get an idea of Scotty taking a left in Valla and of course detective Gillis catching up with the car but it doesn’t give us clear idea of exactly what happened as you just read off that form that was actually the body cam footage failure to record form and on that the detective points out that he instructed him to stop and that Scotty Sheffer this Echoes what he said in the incident report refused to stop and took the left into the the golf club now it’s also important to point out that not there was three separate supervisors who had to sign off on that form and one of those supervisors the division Commander did point out he how chaotic the situation was but they still decided that detective Gillis needed to activate that body cam footage once it escalated into an incident that it was going to lead to his arrest Todd Lewis with us as well and Todd what more can you add yeah it shows that Scotty Sheffer did turn left into gate one he was actually on the property there when he was arrested but like Rex said you don’t really see the incident where he was dragged as he said in the police report and you know the fact that there was no body cam footage there was some thinking by some out there following this case that this these charges would be dropped because of no body cam footage and you kind of sense the frustration from Stephen Rines who is Scotty sheffer’s attorney that may maybe he was thinking that as well but indeed that is not the case the mayor again saying that we have to respect the legal process we will move forward in the next step in the legal processes of course that June the 3 court day for Scotty sheffler who needs to appear alongside his attorney stepen romines now I did reach out to Blake Smith who is the agent the manager for Scotty sheffler he is on site there at Colonial and he said really no comment from him or stot shepher that he’s going to let the attorney do all the representation speaking in regards to Scotty she Scotty’s going to try to focus on golf all right Todd here once again is that video this from the fixed pole camera just after 6: a.m. uh keep an eye the upper left on your screen will spot shadow that there’s Scotty’s SUV coming to a stop and there is the arresting officer Brian Gillis in the Yellow Jacket leaning inside the driver’s side window and to reiterate what Steven Romine Scotty sheffer’s lawyer said earlier to today after the press conference with the mayor and the police chief Scotty Sheffer didn’t do anything wrong all the evidence coming out and Rines has seen this video all the evidence coming out continues to support that this will either be dismissed or will go to trial and Scotty Sheffer didn’t do anything wrong they have no interest in settling the case so there you see Scotty is now out of the car and he’s being led away traffic at a standstill and the second piece of video that has been made public comes from inside this police car and the dash cam and and Rex what more do you have Rex go ahead Rich when you look at yeah when you look at the timing of this according to the initial incident report he was encountered detective Gillis at about 6:02 a.m. but as we can now see from that dasham votage it was less than two minutes that he had this incident with the detective tried to pull into the Golf Course was pulled out of the vehicle handcuffs were put on and led to the vehicle so you get an idea of how quickly that actually escalated you can also see the ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington who broke this story trying to speak with police videotaping it that’s how we all found out that Scotty Sheffer had been arrested and it also gives you an idea of a how chaotic the situation was and B it paints a better picture in the police report it was described that Scotty Sheffer was coming to the golf course from the East he was in eastbound Lane and went to avoid the traffic that was backed up from the previous accident into the westbound Lane that’s why we cannot see exactly what happened when Scotty Sheffer first encountered detective Gillis they are behind a shuttle bus which is stopped in traffic so you don’t get an idea of exactly what happened but we do have a better idea of the timing of it

  1. Cop is a moron. Chief is a moron. Head prosecutor is a moron. Drop all charges already.

  2. The cop is a liar. He was not drug down the road. He also broke the law of not having his body cam on. Why that is even in the control of the cop is baffling. Louisville Metro PD would be smart to just drop the charges. But you know power trip cops. Pathetic.

  3. This cop is lying and covering up what he knows he did wrong. Who should they believe? A cop that has violated policy more than 6 different times and been placed on leave twice, or Scottie Scheffler who has nothing to gain by lying?

  4. The cop is out to lunch and appears to have fabricated a series of complaints against the golfer. No bodycam footage is against policy, charges should be dropped.

  5. Nobody is mentioning the officer’s body language. You can clearly see in the video that he’s totally lost it, throwing an angry temper tantrum. That doesn’t look to me like the behavior of a level-headed, law preserving public servant.

  6. Everyone knows cops turn off their cams when they are pulling shit. Why can’t these guys just do their job and collect their check?

  7. Waste of taxpayer resources over a policy overreaction, bruised ego — really a nothingburger.

  8. Notice that no other officer immediately approaches the car, you'd think that if a cop was just dragged 50ft they'd swarm the car immediately; nevermind that if the cop had told him to stop and he didn't why would Scotty then stop again? It's clearly a misunderstanding and now the cops is trying to cover himself as all bad cops do.

  9. Still hard to see exactly what transpired before Scottie took the left turn. Something clearly made the officer upset enough to run after the car, strike the window, put his head and upper body inside the car in the attempt to remove Scottie. If it was a misunderstanding between the officer and Scheffler, then the charges should be dropped. But if Scottie drove away in an aggressive manor or disobeyed the officer’s instructions, he will face penalty. I anticipate the charges being dropped or at least reduced.

  10. Some people take their authority to the limits as this bad apple did. Video doesn’t lie but people do. And we all wonder why there was a defunding of the police movement, well here is your reason and this one is mild to say the least. Law enforcement is our line between good and bad, but when the line is broken there is no line.

  11. Detective needs to have his gambling history investigated. I swear this detective knew who he was and had a big bet on another player.

  12. At least from the video no dragging of the officer. Is it possible he ripped his pants and bruised his hand jumping on and beating on the car? Scheffler was driving pretty slow, like maybe 5 mph turning. Plus the guy had a yellow poncho on. Nothing to distinguish him as a police officer. Did something else happen we could not see that was blocked by the buses. Plus Scottie said he was going where another officer told him to go. did that actually happen prior to this incident. No bodycam is a problem for the detective.

  13. The only person to say Scottie did anything wrong was the cop, the other cops didn't see what happened and you can tell that the Detective did not get injured because it took forever for any other cops to show up. The witnesses standing there at the gate weren't even paying attention until the detective started dragging Scottie out of the car.

  14. They need to be sued for carrying this on! Scottie clearly did nothing wrong and what’s more why the the officer not have his camera on ? Thankfully we have other cameras as I dare say the officer would continue to lie about what happened

  15. Cop needs to be fired and never be able to be a cop again. The cat's out of the bag now!

"The initial interaction between Scheffler and the cop was not captured because Detective Bryan Gillis didn’t turn his body-cam on, in violation of departmental procedures. The force took “corrective action” against him, Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said Thursday."

He violated policy and lied about the incident. He has no integrity. Shouldn't that be a requirement to be a cop? Scottie should sue. Not for the money, just to show the department what happens when you have a bad egg.

  16. Detective Brian Gillis, soon to be grocery bagger Brian Gillis…hopefully.

Word is, he will attach himself to your car after loading your groceries and claim you drug him 30 yards across the parking lot.

  17. For everyone saying he could have been dragged down behind the bus so you can't see it happen. Let's say that actually happened. Do you really think all of the other cops around would just continue directing traffic if that happened? Not a single one of them flinched. In the video below, you can see several vehicles (cars and buses) coming in and out. What did he do differently?

  18. Am l missing something did all the police officers have their body cams off even the ones manhandling him and the one yelling at the reporter

  19. Your Honor, I call to the witness stand Ernie from Kohls who sold these pants to tell us if these pants are indeed worth 80 bucks.

  20. Sounds like a bunch of bull to me. If I lived in Louisville or Kentucky I would be ashamed! Maybe this big pants cop should have been in cancelling the tournament for the day instead of abusing participants.
