The ADIDAS Boston 12 and the New Balance SC Trainer V2 are both on sale just in time for the return of the “If I could Buy One” series. A winner must be chosen for the Upper, the outsole, the midsole and overall. I have already done full #shoereviews for both of these shoes on the channel, so I do not bother going too in-depth in this video.

I started memberships and I make content specifically for Members. I will make a BREAKING 18 video and touch on the training – but for all the dirty deets, calls with coach etc…I will put up for members.

The shoe content will continue – Mount to Coast R1, Saucony Endorphin Pro 4, Alphafly 3, Dragonfly spikes (1), Hoka Skyward X, ASICS Novablast 4.

Just looking at this slate is a bit overwhelming since I don’t have time to shoot any of it -but I will find a way.

the shoe battles are back it’s a tie the whole dang thing is a tie but we don’t like ties and we don’t do ties here at mid life Runner so we’re going to pick a winner cuz it’s a battle to the death today is a belated 2023 Battle of the super trainers 1.0 the Adidas Boston 12 versus the New Balance SE trainer V2 uppers outsoles mids and if I could buy one which one would it be and I know this video is coming a little bit late but both of these shoes should be going on sale soon and so hopefully this video is still useful to you for the upper we have a winner SE trainer V2 coming in with a pretty forgettable upper to note I did love the upper of the SE trainer B1 but that upper rubbed people the wrong way and that was a very calculated pun it only won because the upper of the Boston 12 is really uncomfortable so I just made a video on the Boston 12 full review and I’ll leave it right there if you click on that video and you go through the comments you’ll see it was like a video about love haate people who love it people who hate it people who didn’t really get on with it a lot had to do with the upper whether it was the heel slippage some bleeding ankles some lace bite it’s just not a very comfortable upper and I will say this when I know I’m going to run in the Boston 12 the following morning I literally literally on Tuesday I literally set my alarm 5 minutes earlier so that I can get into this shoe because it’s cumbersome outo winner Boston 12 Continental rubber enough said but not enough said because I’m going to keep talking I just wanted to show you the outsole of the SC Trainer V2 after about 130 Mi so you can see it’s really not that bad of an so there’s there’s plenty of coverage you see a little bit of wear here on the lateral Hill Side that’s usually where I accumulate my fall damage you know from falling forward uh the Boston 12 it looks amazing still it’s great shoe Continental rubber it’s going to destroy most all competition outside of maybe Puma Puma grip that would be an actual battle worth discussing we’ve already spent way too long talking about this outo let’s get on to the midsole now for the ride I broken it down into two sections so one is going to be the ride feel at different Paces how these shoes perform at different paces and the second one is how the ride feels against each other in relation to each other now the Boston 12 and the SE trainer as far as use case in their different Paces they’re very similar actually so like at easy paces and at recovery Paces neither shoe is terrific in that because the the Boston 12 the Light Strike 2.0 is V firm okay it’s very firm and the SE trainer V2 it’s almost too soft it’s like not very stable it doesn’t feel that comfortable I would say mid at best as the kids say now at faster Paces that’s where both of these shoes really begin to shine so the New Balance SE trainer V2 I would say has a lot of Bounce and they have a new formulation that they put in this trainer which is a little less dense than the SE trainer one but there’s a lot of Bounce it’s exciting it’s springy and I like it best at 5K Paces I know not a lot of people I hear use this shoe at those but the bounce back at those space especially long intervals really negates the weight of the shoe and I find that it also is a good leg saver and it has a nice roll through and geometry that I just really like to shoe at that pace it’s also pretty decent at marathon pace because of that stride and that bounce back contrasting that with the Boston 12 in the back You See the Light Strike 2.0 you see more up front of the Light Strike Pro chef’s kiss on that and the more power you put in the more power you get back I love this shoe more at threshold and I think it’s better for heavier runners or L more powerful Runners but still at faster Paces this shoe shines regardless nobody wins the versatility okay it’s a tie the whole dang thing is a tie okay but we don’t like ties and and we don’t do TI here at midlife Runner so we’re going to pick a winner cuz it’s a battle to the death okay so the battle of the midsole foam versus each other is sadly going to come down I think to individual preference I could be wrong but it seems like heavy runners or more powerful Runners tend to like the Light Strike foam a little bit more and they tend to you know running in the rebel V3 the SC late V3 is like too soft and there’s not enough energy return where like short Kings like me just love the unruly bounce of shoes like that you ask me maybe like a year ago SC Trainer V2 would be my choice because I’m what some people consider a new balance Fanboy because my two favorite shoes of 2022 were the rebel V3 and the SC Trainer V1 I liked that fuel cell formulation this new one though it’s a little bit less dense and unstable the new formulation was a Miss but my point is this the SE trainer V2 is less durable and it’s less stable than the Boston 12 but I like the ride more so how do I rate the overall score honestly I think the determining factor is going to come down to my foot strike now I know this is going to sound weird but but follow me on this like when I bought this shoe a yearo I used to be heel Striker through and through you can see theyve got some wear on the heel and so if you asked me a year ago to pick I also would have picked the SE trainer V2 because I like New Balance but also if I was heel striking in the Boston 12 that’s kind of where all of the Light Strike 2.0 is which is a firmer foam than the Light Strike Pro up front the Boston 12 for me now that I’ve evolved into a much better Runner midfoot to 4 foot which we all know are better than heel stri or was the Boston 12 feels great I think it feels better when I’m landing midfoot to 4ot that’s where a lot of that Light Strike Pro foam is ultimately guys I could go either way okay like an H right but I’m going to go with the Boston 12 and I I think I’m going to go with the Boston 12 because of the stability hey guys I just want to let you know that you’ll get seven years of good luck if you touch the Subscribe button also I put memberships on the channel and I do exclusive content for that so uh if you want to get more dumb jokes then feel free to join the journey come along and and I want to say something about the super trainers 1.0 in general okay because they’re just that they’re 1.0 they’re like first iterations and there’s a lot of room for improvement and my theory is that like as the Super Shoes become more Super with all of their Technologies all of their spare parts and everything kind of like left behind and materials will find themselves in our super trainers and then at that point they’ll probably start to earn their price because you know at 180 and 160 it’s a little steep now I got this shoe for $80 right and I did pay full price for this for no balance come on send me some shoes but they’re probably on discount now I think this one is maybe not 80 bucks at REI anymore you can still find it around this this one’s like $40 off hopefully they go on more sale and that’s why you’re watching this video cuz you need to pick one and hopefully this is useful to you I did a full review on the Boston 12 which you can find right [Music] here fill up my bank account now I got something to SP [Music]

  1. It may be because I am old and need more recovery, I have fallen in love with the SC Trainer V2. I wanted something to alternate with the Speed 4 and now I find myself reaching for the SC because it is so soft. Most comfortable ride in a shoe I have worn yet. Great comparison!

  2. I am a heel striker and slow runner ( light) and love the Boston 12 ❤❤❤ New Balance SC trainer V2 is terrible for me. Clunky and heavy, soft and unstable at any speed below Tempo killing my calfs and Achilles tendon. New Balance SC trainer V2 is the disappointment of the year 💔💔💔.

  3. Strange enough (and I’m truly shocked) I have never ran in either of these. But based on reviews and other opinions, I’ll go with the SC Trainer

  4. Spot on about forefoot sensation on B12. For the ones who are forefoot strikers, B12 would be a really nice option. Not enjoyable for easy runs, best for tempo/treshold for me. Have to use thicker socks bcs uper is so uncomfortable but yeah, did race 5 and 10k in B12 and had good results.

  5. I haven't run in the Boston, but I loovvveeee lightstrike pro. Seems to be a theme that their uppers and laces are just 💩 though. I bought the NB on sale a while back and I hated it……fell in love with it….then it ruined something in the lateral side of my knee. Then I convinced myself it wasn't the shoe…..so I ran in it again….and my knee was f'ed again 😂 . Don't know if it's that crazy cut out or because it bottoms out….no idea, but I did like the ride so it's a shame. BTW, nearly 5,000 subs!!! That's gone up rapid, congrats 👏

  6. For now, I am holding off on the Boston 12s since I am waiting for reviews and on the shoe feel of the SC Trainer V3. If the SC Trainer V3 suits my taste (which I think will not because I do not prefer soft shoes on tempos and thresholds but I still want to give it the benefit of the doubt), I'd go with it. Otherwise, it's the Boston 12 for me.

  7. The Boston series, heck all the Adizero shoes, should be a lot better than they are. They have the best, subjectively, super foam. They insist on putting the absolute worst uppers on their shoes though. Must be a German thing.

  8. And, that’s why I almost always buy shoes on sale and last year’s version. It’s better to hear from a lot of people that the shoe is good 🤷🏻‍♂️. If I go to a store and see something I like, I always see if you or Kofuzi has reviewed the shoe, if not, than I’m gambling pretty much 😬.

  9. I have both and I would say that they are so different that I would advise any "serious" runner to get both. SC trainer for slower runs, Boston 12 for faster runs. If I had to pick only 1 as the only shoe in my "rotation", it would probably be the Boston 12 because they are so fast, breathable and stable. But the SC trainer is probably best for the average joe who does not care about speed and like a softer feel. Also sc trainer v2 feels a bit short to me, which is quite rare.

  10. Andrew 😂😂😂 You were on somethin today 😂😂😂 I thought you were going to start dueling the shoes as if they were action figures. Thanks for these descriptions!

  11. I have a pair of NB RC Elite v2 which I had originally bought to run a marathon but never used it for racing. I have been using it as my "super trainer" on longer runs. After 250 miles the FuelCell foam has softened a lot. Towards the end of my HM long run on Sunday, I felt it was bottoming and not giving me anything back. Another 50-80 miles of easy miles and the shoe is ready to retire. I think, the new 2024 PEBA version of Fuelcell might fare better.

I tried Boston 12 demo shoes while I think they are decent enough shoes, not having full Lightstrike Pro is a put-off. I'd rather put some more miles on my Adios Pro 2 after I retire RC Elite v2.

I am actually interested in getting Mizuno Neo Vista at some point (probably during fall sales) as a training shoe. Initial reports are very positive.

  12. I still have a pair of sc v1 kicking…and will keep them on life support as long as possible…you can pry them from my cold feets

  13. I bought the Superblast instead and killed two birds w/ one stone… max stack cushion allows for daily training, recovery, & long runs, but the shoe is light enough and the foam is energetic enough for 10k through marathon pace workouts, assuming ur a middle-of-the-pack jogger like me (3hr full). It's a deceptive shoe. You expect a marshmallow BRICK but it isn't. Problem is the Superblast constantly sells out so never goes on clearance. Couldn't find it anywhere online; not even in ugly colorways. Had to pay full retail at my local run-specialty shop.
