freaking first cut golly welcome to the first cup podcast I’m Rick gaming and this is your preview for this week’s Charles Schwab challenge we’re going to cover DFS we’re going to give you a couple bets at the end of the show and joining me to do just that it’s Greg du gregers you and I have spent a lot of time together today and I love it yeah Monday afternoons with Rick gam who’s luckier than me it’s been it’s been a lot of fun uh we put a bow on the PGA Championship previously uh which was spectacular and now we get into the Charles Schwab challenge just a couple hours later here we are diving full on into uh into Colonial which I’m excited to get into that’s right hopefully everybody has enjoyed um what was a lot of coverage from the PGA Championship and then you know we’re g to try to do the best that we can to keep the schedule uh as normal as possible for Colonial obviously with a lot of us traveling back and things of that nature look a little bit different but hopefully the information will be just as valuable now before we get into this uh it’s a pretty decent field Greg we’ve got Scotty Sheffer anchoring this field there has been I don’t want to say an expectation that he was going to WD but as of now he is still in this golf tournament yes uh and apparently his arraignment which was scheduled for Tuesday at 900 a.m. is rescheduled to June 3rd I don’t know what exactly that will entail uh but I did see Bob herro report that today um so that being said I don’t know if that has any effect whatsoever on this tournament but it looks like he’s going to play and it’s close to home and uh he’s played pretty well here over the last couple years as well oh Scotty out looking for Revenge now he’s got a little more street cred he’s got you know he’s just ready guy yeah he’s completely different guy you know bad man he’s back he’s back in society just I’m I’m worried about what what might happen to the rest of this field so we’ll talk about that in just a second but Josh if you want to share my screen let’s start with uh Colonial and actually before we do that get get that get that get that screen off of there because I’ve got a big important announcement and that is to let you know that this episode of The First Cut is presented by fandel sports book make every moment more and that is exactly exactly what we are going to do right now let’s talk about Colonial Josh hit it for me thank you very much so uh Colonial this course has been around and on the PGA tour schedule for a very long time Greg however it is going to look different in 2020 before you might be surprised when you see it a redesign has gone on in the last year or so let’s figure out and kind of discuss what our expectations are this time around okay there are a couple of factors involved in a redesign one you always have to be concerned with the changes of the layout changes in yardage um you know changes in in holes and for what I gather that’s not the case here um the the golf course and its routing and the way it plays and for the most part the distance that it plays is largely the same this is something that’s often misunderstood about Golf Course architecture it’s not just about where the te’s fairways bunkers and greens are uh there’s a lot of stuff going on under the hood and a lot of this renovation by Gil Hance and Jim Wagner uh took place in uh in the irrigation system they wanted to upgrade what was going on under the hood he also I mean this golf course features bent grass surfaces Bermuda rough but bent grass surfaces that um that’s not exactly the ideal grass for Texas so it takes some extra work and they wanted to set up Colonial Country Club to be able to handle that um there will be in the look that you mention Rick well it’s going to look different the bunkers in their style will look a little different um you know a a signature of Gil Hance is the revetted faces baranka faces which is something that you’ll notice in the bunkers they’ll look a little different um but really the only plane surface aside from the bunkers that’s different there are new Greens on 13 and 18 uh redesigned Greens on those holes so that’ll be interesting to see as well but largely the biggest factor in my opinion is the fact that it’s been regrasp and when a is regrasp you get what we saw at Quail Hollow just two weeks ago you get very firm conditions so I’m curious about that but I’m expecting to see a little more bounce than we saw last week in Louisville yeah so if you remember uh it was pretty jarring uh on Thursday at Quail Hollow when we got to first look at those bounces of approach shots into greens I think maxom had a a quote that said that they were bouncing higher than Brian Harmon which I thought you know which I thought was hilarious and and uh very very accurate I mean it was just big bounces and that’s that’s the um that’s new greens right they it takes a little bit for for everything to kind of settle in and be a bit more receptive but is it safe to say that uh Colonial this time will just it’ll look more rugged right it’s kind of like a less and clean uh version you’ll kind of see higher grasses you might see rougher edges in places just a more rugged design yeah I think that’s fair Rick you know part of the concept in this design was um was bringing it back to what it looked like in the 1941 US Open um you know that’s something that Gil Hance has done a lot of bringing golf courses back to their original design so you know I’m also curious I didn’t read anything about this but I’m curious to see what kind of trees we are dealing with if it’s still as tightly treelined as it once was um but I since I didn’t read anything about it I’m assuming that it will still be very similar in that regard okay well it’ll be interesting it’ll be exciting uh I I like that I like the uh maybe the word maybe restoration is a better word I don’t know I I like you know redesign restoration when should I use one when should I use the other yeah um it’s a good question a restoration is truly when you bring it back to what it used to be right you look at old pictures and you bring it back I I don’t know what this is officially yeah you know it’s like well we had some work done but you know we put a different color of paint on the car and we put in an upgraded system of uh spark plugs but you know it’s still a it’s still a V8 and there’s still only an FM radio in the car you know it it’s kind of stuff like I think it’s largely going to be very similar just may look a little different and and it will the the golf course for the members will um will likely play better throughout the entirety of the Year all right well we’ll see who can handle uh those new spark plugs that have been put into place we are going to dive into this field and naming some names but first we’re going to take a quick break and hear a word from our partners two big boys ready to play the effer of word here it and here they come and we’re back Greg here is the cheat sheet on rickun good.com there are four golfers over $10,000 Scotty sheffler over 10 over 11 over 12 over 13 13,300 col morawa 11, even Jordan Speed 106 and Max H at 10,400 you know on paper uh one of these is not like the other Jordan spe 10,600 not necessarily having the same year uh as some of these other guys but the history the history around Colonial I’m sure Greg is what is driving this price tech it has to be he has uh a remarkable record here at this venue I mean he he missed the cut in 2023 but had five straight top 10 finishes uh I’m sorry four straight top 10 finishes in the years before that uh he won here in 2016 which was surrounded by a pair of t2s on either side of that his first start here was a t7 this is um you know there it’s known to be Hogan’s alley um but you know you could come up with a name for spe here maybe there’s a spe section maybe it’s spe spark plugs there you go there you go maybe we add another win after this uh renovation I I don’t think that’ll be catching on anytime soon but how concerned are you about the state of Speed game leading into a golf course with really good history like this um I liked a lot of what I saw last week I like what I’ve seen with his driver which is a very welcome sign he has played well here in the past with out his game you know many of those years before last year when he missed the cut those four years prior were not exactly you know Peak Jordan spe and he still put together Great Performances I thought he did a lot of things really well last week as well the big concern for me is just this this wrist it feels like such an unknown and when you look at this $10,000 price range unless there’s a sudden Scotty sheffler withdrawal it it’s hard for me to take the risk on spe I feel like Sheffer is a much safer play with with higher upside as well okay so we can look at Scotty sheffer’s uh profile and as you can imagine it’s it’s um jaw dropping yeah it’s it’s it it all looks like typos quite frankly that’s the only way I can describe his profile the T8 and that included uh basically the worst round from Scotty Sheffer uh that I can remember which which happened on Saturday amongst other things off the golf course but uh assuming he tees it up 13,300 uh is the same price that he was at Harbor toown he won that event he was 13,000 even in Houston Greg that was a T2 he was 13,200 last week that was officially a T8 so it is a price we’ve seen uh and then if you look at his his uh outright odds last I checked he was plus 280 to win um that was probably last week was probably the first time he wasn’t in the optimal lineup since February the middle of February just to give me an idea right he’s worth the price and you think about all that took place during that Saturday round that’s behind him now having Ted Scott on the bag for four rounds I mean he shot 67 66 65 in the three rounds where Ted Scott’s on the bag with him yeah and there’s a 73 the day after going to jail with all that hoopla going on and no Ted Scott on the back like that’s the day when you need your caddy I didn’t think that was a big deal going into the PGA that uh that he that he wasn’t GNA have Ted Scott for one day I but I also didn’t think there would be such a high emotional situation that’s behind him now and and you look at we didn’t talk about this as I was rambling about the renovation restoration that’s going on at uh at Colonial but this golf course asks for precision off the tea don’t necessarily have to hit the fairways but you have to be accurate off the te more important the distance Scotty is long but his biggest asset is his accuracy off the te you look at what’s important with iron play I mean I I think green regulation are is really important here there’s no one better at uh than than that with Scotty sheffler uh about 47% of AO shots come from 125 to 175 Scotty’s first on tour from 150 to 175 not too shabby to 150 so I mean he just continues to check every single box for me yeah you know I don’t think that Ted Scott um like you said not being there for day would have been a big deal had not everything else happened I want to remind people you know Ted Scott is a phenomenal caddy Ted Scott and shot Scotty sheff are great friends they are almost um uh I don’t want to say one as a mentor to another but they spend a lot of time on and off the golf course they they’re both uh big into their faith and they and they work on that on the course I mean or or off the course when they’re on the road it is not just a hey I’ll see you tomorrow at 9:00 am. and let’s talk golf it is a very very tight relationship yeah and and there are days where you’re playing golf and it’s about golf um there are days where you need more than that and having a fill I don’t care if to fill in Stevie Williams right you got to have someone that knows you that knows what to say to you on that day and uh and also knows what to you know what club needs to come out of your back based on how you’re feeling uh what you’re showing I think it was a big miss the other two in this 10K range col Mory Cawa and Max hom I you know I still find it incredibly difficult to figure out more cow on a on a day-to-day basis but he’s starting to put together a lot better results uh five consecutive top 25s he had that he had that oh boy I’m trying to remember this so the 2020 version of this event was one of the first events back I think it was the first event back it was the first event and more orawa either got into a playoff or missed the playoff late on Sunday he missed a I think he missed a short Putt in a three and a half feet and okay correct me if I’m wrong here oh man I can’t remember who actually won it it was either Daniel burer or web or Webb Simpson no Webb won the next week at the RBC Heritage it was bur it was Burger got it okay so Mor that that’s what I remember about moral at this event but that was that was years ago um what are your assessments on on these two and how do you compare and contrast um so morawa I think is’s GNA get it soon here uh I I think he’s got a lot of room to go like upward Mobility where we talked about this earlier today Xander’s kind of at that place where if I W I should win if I don’t win where do I go from here kind of a thing moraca is like got a lot of room to grow here there’s a lot of things he can clean up in his game and I believe now that he’s back with Rick cessing house he will so he’s very interesting to me I just don’t know how you come off of a uh PGA Championship performance like that well like what’s the what’s the attitude are we going to work here on the technique get this sorted out get ready for Pinehurst or are we coming in with the major mentality of I got to put a score on the board and when I look at his record this is so interesting to me it’s like T3 at the Masters Ninth at the RBC Heritage with some very poor rounds yeah t23 at the Zurich t16 at the Wells Fargo and then he puts together numbers again at the PGA Championship it so it’s confusing to me but I guess I would say he’s he’s pretty darn close and he’s probably a good play if should Sheffer withdraw um and I like what I’ve seen out of Max hom too he’s been so steady moraca has been better but who’s going to be better this week I I have a hard time I I I wrote down H I wrote down Scotty if not Scotty hom but that’s just a feel you know an educated guess if you will yeah I I think I slightly lean H at as well he’s been trending he’s been more well-rounded morawa I think is is a little bit more volatile it’s it’s it is fascinating I think everybody in the 10K range makes sense but spe spe’s recent form is is kind of funny let’s go to the uh let’s go to the 9k range here Greg and continue this so we’ve got Tony F now who is starting to put a little a little bit together here 9900 minwu at 97 sewo at 96 Brian at 95 sunj at 94 then we can round this thing out with Tom hogi Adam Scott and Harris English at 93 92 and $9,000 respectively how would you like to allocate your funds in this range um I I got three names that interest me yep uh I got um feno English and hogy nice and feno feno has a surprising record here it it’s very good you know T4 in 2022 a second in 2019 two top 25s in between those um he he seems to play and put pretty well here at Colonial so I was just looking it up earlier uh I think since I think I was doing since 2019 or something like that him and Jordan spe are basically one and two in in records at Colonial yeah which is you may not expect that right but I think it’s probably a testament to Tony fina’s iron play which has been very good he gained nine and a half Strokes last week I so he played with Justin Thomas on Sunday uh saw a lot of that round and he played I can’t remember who he played with before that but I got eyes on Tony quite a bit last week and I you know Color Me impressed I don’t know I don’t know what he did on Saturday to lose 3.3 Strokes off the te um because that really hemorrhaged I don’t know if he found some water out there but he he hemorrhaged Strokes off the te on Saturday which which kind of ruins his his weekly number I saw him drive the green on four I I saw him hit some really good shots I and then I clicked this profile and saw his number that number and I I I’m gonna have to go back and look and see what he did but I long story short um pretty bullish on Tony right now he drove the green on four on Sunday yes the teaser up on Saturday he drove it was 350 he drove it on that green yes really impressive um so yeah I like Tony as well Tom hogi Rick is fascinating to me and I don’t know what to do except play him uh because I just love the the iron play He Is striping it but the results are not as good as they should be for someone with this combination I I can’t my at this point in the week my brain is absolutely fried I cannot remember who it is but we had another scenario like this maybe at Quil Hollow where it was a golfer who on paper is like the perfect fit had never had any success and it leaves you wondering what in the world to do Tom hogi routinely plays out of the Fairway is one of the best SE shot players in the world his putter is just fine and yet Colonial has given him fits just fine to very good yeah yes I I mean am I banging my head up against the wall to play this guy whose best finish was in 2016 and a t17 he’s got three miscuts t52 last year I mean maybe you just can’t these greens well they’re new greens now that’s a good point all right so that’s why Hog’s on my list all right how about this he doesn’t like you know we always say does it fit his eye doesn’t fit Hog’s eye now it’s gonna look different and now he’s gonna love it perfect perfect Harris English is here and I I I agree with you on Harris English I also had his name uh earmarked and we have seen him now put together four straight top top 34 finishes uh two of them are Majors the other two are Signature Events this will be a weaker field and he’s just starting to get back into that good version of Harris English again and when he starts to be good Harris English he can stripe it he doesn’t put up numbers in the ball striking it’s always been perplexing to me uh yet he still finds a way to play really good golf on really tough golf courses so I think this is a perfect fit I love what he’s doing with the Putter and I think he’s swinging a lot better than the numbers look as well so this is really a recent form play more than anything but Harris English is very attractive okay we are going to continue this conversation uh we are going to get into the eights the sevens the sixes we are going to release some of our favorite bets for the week but first we’re going to take a quick break and hear a word from our partners will you need your sports news anywhere we’ve got breaking news to bring you then get your sports anytime you want them big trade news overnight to discuss because we know you need Sports all the time a lot of movement in the rankings this week a legend adds to their legacy we’re bringing you that breaking news right here on HQ CBS Sports HQ anywhere anytime all the time and we’re back Greg I am uh just continually refreshing the media page to see if any you know update dates are happening while uh while we’re on the show as of right now there have not been any field changes on Monday which is when we are recording it so that does mean the last movement was Victor hland out Wesley Bryan in we knew that on on Sunday night I do also see that the interview schedule is out and Scotty Sheffer is noticeably absent from the interview schedule which I guess he doesn’t have to do op pressor every single week that he plays but he’s the number one player in the world he’s uh made national news last week and he’s playing basically at home uh am I reading between the lines here um he’s just playing the fifth I swear we did not have that set up that’s very that’s very good I hope uh there that’s not meaning anything I know it was something he was considering I he’s broken my heart he broke my heart last week and it’s not his fault it’s understandable I I have so much on Scotty that I’m so impressed with him and I’ve gone to back for him uh time and time again this year and he continues to pull through which is why I don’t have to go out on a Lim so um I am supporting Scotty in whatever decision he makes I’m not going to make a prediction at this time okay that’s that’s fair I I don’t know and we and I don’t I don’t know either I don’t know if this is the complete interview schedule I don’t know if it even matters I don’t maybe he just doesn’t want to talk about it I don’t know I don’t care uh but he is still in the field right now this 8K range Baden hoot horel McCarthy Mitchell Justin Rose is right at $88,500 Chris Kirk seep straa Tom Kim Keegan Bradley and Thomas dietry for the bottom half couple names that have my attention but let’s see what you’ve got here Greg Yeah couple that have my attention too uh I like to go in price order but let’s just go in favorite order so I’m gonna start at 8300 yeah baby sep St just just just just bang it sep sha let’s go yeah it’s all you need here in this range it he has uh three Starts Here cut cut t29 um so that’s fine you know it’s enough he can play the golf course uh he’s a totally different player now he’s gained Strokes approaching the green uh you know in a healthy amount in four straight uh five of his last six you know over three and a half strokes and all of those so the iron play has been spectacular he has been extremely accurate off the this year um and and the we kind of ride on the putter but it doesn’t mean he’s going to miss the cut if he putts poorly he is certainly not on team no putt it just we could get some serious contention with the good putting week and you know we’ll probably get a decent finish without a good putting week very accurate off the t3d and driving accuracy 18th in distance from edge of Fairway very good with his short and middle iron 65th 74th and on tour from 100 to 175 yards those results we’ve talked about this a lot recently Greg they are starting to get better and more consistent so yeah sep straa is the one in this range that gets a star gets an underline gets a highlight gets whatever else you want to designate around his name give it all to sep staka where are we going next uh let’s go 00 more to Chris Kirk okay I find this fascinating uh he’s obviously a winner here and a winner this year on the PGA tour but I’m starting to look at these results he missed the cut at the PGA and finished tied 43rd at the Wells Fargo not very good golf courses for him RBC Heritage good golf course for him T10 Masters surprising t16 very good I wouldn’t call it a good golf course for him but the players good golf course for him t26 cognizant classic good golf course for him t T28 uh Pebble Beach t26 rain shortened also a good golf course for him uh Sony T8 good golf course for him I I think Chris Kirk’s playing really well and when you get on a spot like this where he’s comfortable I think you’re going to see a really good result so I I like Chris Kirk this week as well okay Chris Kirk is 8,400 I will just remind people that Keegan Bradley is 8100 and I just I’m addicted and also I just think he’s better than he’s been playing but he is starting now three top 22 finishes in his last four he’s made four Cuts in a row so I’m just I’m just like he’s hitting it better Rick yeah I’m tracking I’m tracking we’re we’re we’re getting close on Keegan who was uh who was the other guy that you had did you tell me you had a third guy uh yeah well Keegan was one of them I’m right there with you on that I also am curious to get your thoughts on um on Biden out and horel okay top of the range yes so um pretty warm on Billy a little less but still warm on CZ uh the horel is so interesting he is playing the best golf since uh he had that run where I think it was like a 16 event stretch or 15 event stretch or something where he won he won a DP World Tour event he won BMW PGA Championship and he won was it Memorial yes same that same like couple month period this is probably the best golf since then and I like the way that he’s come if you look at the last 36 rounds it’s Scotty Sheffer Far and Away better than everybody else like two strokes better than everybody else and then Billy horel he won in punana I don’t think a lot of people realized that um baz this is a guy that I just think is uh generally trending in the right direction and has been for the last couple of of months he missed the cut at the PGA Championship missed the cut on the number I’m not going to beat him up too much for that the rest of his results including some European tour events have been really good so yeah these are two guys that I’m certainly more excited on than average but I’d probably give the nod to Billy if I had to only pick one of them yeah I I think that’s fair um Billy the thing I like about in in this great form this great play is he’s made a noticeable change like he this isn’t random he found out that his equipment or discovered or adjusted his equipment by a significant amount at changed the LIE angles on his clubs and all of a sudden boom we start getting a lot more greens and regulation which a couple weeks ago he was seventh on tour in Greens of Regulation I think that was after his win uh so I I love what he’s doing with this game let’s continue with the 7K range and there are um there are a couple more there’s a 5k range for this week so I’ll lump the sixes and the fives together I won’t list all these guys Greg but oxay and Taylor Moore at the top the middle of this range could get you an e root or a Bo Hustler maybe even a Lucas Glover if you’re interested in that and then the bottom of the 7K range Robert McIntyre Eric Cole Brendan Todd uh how would you like to spend here it’s a big it’s a big range I I like this range there’s a couple I really like one of them is Austin ecro this feels like a absolutely perfect golf course for him he is Austin eek Root’s very accurate off the T he’s not very long he has one start here last year he finished tied 16th his approach play although the last four starts hasn’t been great he’s still finishing respectfully and and I think his MO is really solid really strong iron play so I love what we’re getting out of Austin eckroad his short game’s been fine his putting’s been fine I’m uh feeling pretty good about him putts better on bent as well ah nice uh that’s a very nice bonus he’s also uh Oklahoma State guy he is yeah yeah so comfortable in this area of the country if you will little more expensive than the E uh Mark Hub fascinating to me the Eek yeah you if you really didn’t like him you could say the E is giving you the I the ick I recently learned what the ick means by the way which is kind funny it’s a big it’s a big deal it’s it’s it’s big now yeah yeah yeah I was uh at dinner and I was eating I had a bunch of my friends were with us well like we had three couples together and there was H we got an appetizer and so everybody takes some of the app and there’s one left and I take the serving the serving plate and he mine off the serving plate and one of the girls is like that they the girls were all laughing like it’s giving me the ick I had no clue what it meant and you were like I don’t even know what that means I’m just gonna eat this why would I waste another plate right I mean anyway I digress uh so yeah the E hubard I got a question for you here Rick okay what is with Nikolai hoard oh boy I don’t know he’s he’s at Nikolai hoard was in contention at the Masters yeah and all of a sudden he’s at at 7,300 he played on the Ryder Cup last year yeah um yeah well he made he made a big number on 10 I think on Saturday or Sunday I don’t remember what day and he has not been the same since like those like the nine holes after and then punana you can’t yeah n you cannot miss the cut if you’re Nikolai h and pakana you are like by far the best player in that field yes misses the cut at Zurich with Rasmus and Rasmus is like very good and contends a lot and then he finishes t68 the PGA Championship which I suppose is a little bit more acceptable but yeah man that is this is a tough this is a tough run here because even before the Masters he wasn’t playing that well all right so you got you’re saying legitimate pricing I’m saying homeboy homeboy in Trump not playing well all right good so that answers that question yeah how about uh this one always I I get stuck on this guy all the time Aaron Ry oh should be good should be a good spot second in the field and driving accuracy yep third in Greens in regulation this is over the last 36 rounds uh um Fairways and greens if that I I think that that is a good I mean I think it’s good everywhere but I think it’s really good here right and I also think that let me get your thoughts on this I think the first and Sh second shot are kind of tied together here more than some other courses because you’ve got to be when when you get like treelined kind of claustrophobic hemmed in spots hitting a good t- shot allows you to hit the green or you know you can you can put yourself in a position where it’s it’s hard to find the putting surface so I think they’re kind of connected here so those guys who are greens and Fairways guys I like more so yeah I I like Ry but it it it’s it’s never worked out for me yeah I understand that um T4 at the CJ cup you obviously didn’t play him there neither did I uh t39 at the PGA he’s been playing some good golf t23 at the Zurich and he has a T12 here in his last start yeah uh so I’m I’m interested in R I’ve been hurt before I’m ready to again um Daniel Burger I I stared at Daniel Burger really hard uh so let me pull up his full profile because I think it’s I think it’s worth it I mean this is a former top 10 player in the world yeah and a champion here and a champion here so he finished here here’s the run he on and we can we don’t even have to talk about the zert classic he missed the cut it’s a team event nobody cares so he’s made four Cuts in a row the last two are t13 at Byron Nelson which in my opinion was the most encouraging stat profile that he’s put together to date where he gained throughout the bag something that Daniel berer at his Peak did and it was even weighted towards very good ball striking and at less of a Reliance on the short game so that is about as perfect as a stat profile as I could have asked for at at Byron Nelson he Then followed that up with a t36 at Myrtle Beach where the result should have been better but he gained over five Strokes on approach kind of lost a little bit in the short game that and that you know that thing’s a birdie Fest you got to just go absolutely nuts at so long story short long- winded s opportunity to say um if you’re trying to catch Daniel Burger’s first top 10 back th this feels like the spot to try to catch it yeah I think so too I think so too Rick it’s uh it’s kind of exciting because it’s been a he’s been hitting it a little bit better and this is a good spot for him and I don’t think you have to fill it up some year I mean 20 under one here when just Rose did it but this could be single digits you know this could be a nine under winning score that’s a good thing for Daniel Burger in my opinion three straight top 25s here with the win right it’s a good record so I’m I’m very interested in that um I got one more and then we can move on fire away unless you got some Davis Thompson is the only one that I just like I but I play Davis Thompson every week so yeah me too okay love Davis Thompson uh but Lee Hodes was my other one you um he’s at 7200 played great he’s fist pumping all over the place at the PGA finishes T12 but he played pretty well at the Wells Fargo as well is he like is a better player than he’s been I mean he won the 3M open running away and I’m wondering if we’re starting to get back to golf that Lee Hodes is capable of playing he um he’s the opposite of a lot of guys where if you don’t look at any stats and just watch him like he passes the ey test but then you look at his results and you’re like why is this guy not contending more right he’s just like a stone flusher love the way he plays great mentality out there but it just it doesn’t it doesn’t line up so I find him difficult to handicap I I love the the two most recent results what what you described and now he’s going to get a a really weak field that he should or not a super weak feel but like a weaker feel that he should be looking as chops in yeah I I’m uh happy about it let’s find some value so there is a $5,000 range I’m going to lump it in with the $6,000 range so top of the sixes gup Sig Luke List middle of the sixes we’ll get you CT pan or Michael Kim bottom that’s the range of Ben Silverman Carson young going deeper mid fives that is like Joel Damon Robbie and Vincent Norman and then the Min price golfers Tom Whitney Rory sabatini Michael block if you thought block if you thought the blocky era was over at Valhalla you are very wrong Michael block is $5,000 this week yep think again Min price possible value he played pretty well after uh a really tough start in his first two holes his his next uh his next like 34 were much better than his first I don’t know if it was only two holes but like I think they were even it was he started 5’8 and then I think he played even the rest of the way in yeah I think you’re right anyway uh let’s go I’m going up a little bit higher here Rick um Grayson Sig is playing sick some really good golf out of him t13 and in Myrtle Beach flushed it uh T8 at the Zurich T9 at the corales punana he did miss the cut at the CJ cup Byron Nelson but seems like he’s hitting it pretty well so I’m certainly interested in that that’s pretty good uh let’s go I’ll rattle off a couple names you tell me what you like so senson Adam senson Adam Justin low okay I said Grayson Sig Alex SMY MH your boy Harry hall and then I got a couple of 5K guys but one of I mean Zack Johnson Ben Kohl’s Austin Smotherman okay uh of those that you listed I find Alex SMY to be probably the most interesting of them so he’s at 6700 he missed the cut at the PGA Championship I think he got he was one of the last guys in I think he got in because somebody with Drew so he was like golfer like 155 or 156 or something like that um but before that he goes T20 at Myrtle Beach t13 at Byron Nelson T6 in pun Tana he did miss the cut of dererk but again team event there so he has he has in my opinion broken out of his slump and when yes he plays well he’s very good he will not model well because he had a pretty extended slump and he has still missed a cut at the PGA Championship but again like uh John Ron missed the cut at the PGA Championship so it it it happens so if you you’re gonna have to kind of hand hand Force Alex mly into some lineups because he’s he’s not going to model very well so that was interesting and then low would be the other one pretty disappointing um Mis cut at at Myrtle Beach but I think he got penalized too much the the $6,400 for a golfer who has five consecutive top 28s with a T4 and punana he he got he got he got hit too hard for that in the salary rate pricewise yeah yes exactly um so those are the two that I’m most excited about I then throw out Jorge campio who who was T4 at Myrtle Beach t24 at to Byron Nelson t18 at punana well-rounded guy that I throw him out there but uh very uh very happy to roll with a couple those guys that you mentioned as well I think I checking out Harry Hall is very interesting too he finished T3 last year and he’s hitting it he’s hitting it a little bit better you know he’s he’s gained Strokes in his last three measured events approaching the green I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that from Harry Hall you probably have not because he is a he is very reliant on on the on the short game he did it here but there were also two unmeasured events in the middle and one and one of them he missed the cut so he probably yeah lost Strokes there so um that just gaps in the in the data but you are you are right uh this is this is a turnaround for somebody who is mostly a short game specialist yeah and at 6,400 with a great short game on a golf course he’s only seen success on even though now it’s different could be worth it okay Greg I’m going to get us some more names but I’m going to do it in a different way and we are going to discuss some of our bets for this week matchups finishing positions and outrights but first we’re going to take a quick break and hear a word from our partners there’s some things in life that you can’t quite explain an extraordinary story maybe it sounds Flawless looks effortless or makes you feel like a part of History the first ever goal forab AFC and when all of those phenomenons come together Soph it’s perfect Pitch Perfect and we’re back now this is a little bit of a hybrid show and I will remind you that this Best Bets segment is brought to you by FanDuel Sportsbook make every moment more we are not going to have a Tuesday Mega preview podcast Greg we’re travling very sorry we will make it up to you in some way or another but here’s what we’re going to do we’ve we’ve we’ve rolled with the fantasy options for this week you and I are going to go through our grid our matchup our finishing position our two separate outrights and even yes even our Best Bets for this week now Josh do we have a grid ah very well done Josh can you see the grid Greg I can see the grid okay well then it’s my then it’s okay there we go I have it now oh you have it now I can read it yeah no it’s okay I got it now and I have it in the outline too I just didn’t know if the people could see it because it’s just my hotel internet but that’s okay we’re we’re rocking we’re rocking now wow a two a two-person grid looks very good okay um matchup so this is the biggest portion of the 100 bucks that we allocate this is half VD 50 bones and you Greg have found oh well Dallas connection what have you what have you gone with I’ve got Tom Kim at plus 105 over Min wo Lee I think it’s a good fit for Tom Kim I’m not sure that it’s a great fit for Min wo Lee uh I’m minw Lee has been putting together top 25s pretty consistently uh but he’s leaning on his driving I think this golf course is a really difficult drive driving course and uh Tom Kim with his accuracy I believe is going to win out in this one Tomkin plus 105 over minwu Lee that is a tournament long matchup I you’ll find a trend here in my picks it’s it’s a lot of just pedigree right I mean course history will be great but course will look a little bit different recent form is always kind of weird around major championships and like alternate events and stuff like that so you’re going to see agree on my card and that’s Keegan Bradley Keegan Bradley plus 110 over Brian Harmon I just love this guy I just love him I think the game sets up so well I think it’s going in the right direction and I think when when he’s clicking he is way better than a lot of the guys in this field so I will take him at plus 110 over Brian Harmon now uh we get our option of finishing positions Gregs could be anything top five top 10 top 20 top 30 top 40 we both landed on a top 20 and you in your top 20 you’ve got the E I’ve got the E Austin the E top 20 at plus 230 again I just think it’s a great spot for him and I think he answers last year’s top 20 with another one oh man all this talk about Austin is giving me the E plus 230 to finish inside the top 20 I also found a top 20 I got shorter odds plus 160 on Harris English this is I have not um I have sat back and watched Harris English and I haven’t really played him a lot in fantasy lineups I haven’t really exposed myself to him financially not in other ways um and I am ready I’m ready to expose myself to Harris sing and I am G to do that via a top 20 at plus 160 on a golf course that I hope you mentioned it earlier we didn’t really even talk about at the top like I would love if nine under was the winning score yeah I think that’d be great for just golf in general but I also think it would be great for Harris English so uh top 20 there for me now we’ve got two separate outrights and you are you are a dirty little dog here because you you are trying to do the unthinkable you are trying to go undefeated this is is very Savvy my friend what have you done yeah this is typically uh not a possibility based on our format but with Scotty sheffer’s success there are these things called winner without sheffler so I have my first outright is Sheffer at TW at uh two and a half two and a half to one my second is Keegan Bradley as you pointed out Rick without Sheffer at 50 to one so I could in theory achieve both yeah so um we’ve gotten to the point of Scotty sheffler where now they’re offering markets of who will win as if Scotty sheffler does not exist so um the way that this would work is if if Scotty goes one and Keegan if it goes one two Scotty Keegan Then Greg wins both of these yes now if it’s Keegan Scotty I only win one right um so we need we need schfer Keegan Tom Kim Austin ekro somewhere mingled in there I’m fine with Harris English being up there as well thanks because I’ve also exposed myself to Harris English it always you know you never know how it’s going to be received when you do when you do something like that um I went with Max H at 22 to1 again give me pedigree right I just he just wins golf tournaments I think he’s tring in the right direction he did not have to uh endure a overly uh how do I know what want to put this overly pressure packed PGA Championship which is always something you worry about the week afterwards in terms of a hangover but he played well enough to to to kind of keep me interested and then sep Shaka at 45 to one we spent a lot of time talking about sep um I think this is probably on paper one of the best golf courses for him he is not the guy I mean he is getting better he is he is so much better than he was last year and this should be a pretty darn good spot for him so that is hom straa Sheffer and then Keegan Bradley in a market as if Scotty Sheffer does not exist which is amazing uh one final wager here and this is our 50 on anything I have gone with Tom hogi top 20 we talked about this Greg uh just a weird weird situation where he has not played well at Colonial even though he probably should very accurate off the T great great approach player very very good putter two to one on my money if he can finish inside the top 20 and then you and I are sympatico on Mr straa here what did you find I got SE straa in the top 20 plus 190 I love his game he almost made it into my outright card and if Scotty shuffler really didn’t exist he probably would have been in there um but I I need something Sure Fire here I’m you know I’m still in the black but not by much I’m I had a tough week at the PGA and we need a big turnaround here this week you and me both brother I I don’t think I’ve hit one of these in like two months and I was and I’m I’m hemorrhaging right now so we are gonna we’re gonna have to get this we’re gonna have to get this figured out and turned around then we’re going to do it we’re going to do it in Texas now uh for those wondering there will not be a Tuesday Mega preview pod uh Josh will release the one inone Selections in advance of the tournament he’s going to Tweet them out and he’s also going to put them on the YouTube Community tab where those like posts are so that’s the golf on CBS uh uh YouTube channel excuse me and the first cup pod on Twitter and that’s where you’ll get 1. After years of following your DFS picks & making zero money, I think I'm now going to actively & intentionally pick against your picks… I will now probably pick those who you completely discount, esp in the 8k – 6k area, where your picks rarely make the cut & yet those you discount (ie. S. Lowry @ The PGA Champ) not only make the cut, but make huge runs.
