the 2024 PBR Australia Monster Energy tour as as Riders return on a Level Playing Field scores reset in scone our first stop for the new year oldheads and Young Guns all looking to stamp their Authority on the new season early bull riding is a confidence sport where belief is everything some of the best in the nation have gathered in the Thoroughbred capital of New South Wales looking to jump out of the gates quickly for many of those the 2023 PBR Australia Grand finals were still fresh in their minds [Music] the 2023 PBR Australia Monster Energy tour Grand finals were set to be an epic battle but defending Champion Cody heon was out with the late season injury I don’t know the extent of the injury yet to the knee bit of internal bleeding and uh yeah doctor said he does not want to see me riding this weekend you have to be tough to compete in the PBR and one man had emerged from the pack with an appropriate name through 2023 mcau leather to I got on a wedge of good ones and it all just clicked from there and just yeah kept the momentum rolling to the rest of the year however some of the best in the country were on his heels Lan Richardson go lucky Kurt sheeper Kurt roing two oh man and the hits keep coming but the Cowboys held their own at times tough man tough ball tough matchup yes sir returning Stars oh the Texas Rattler team member is on fire P Champions and it is rides like that that has made him one of the most dominating bull riders of his generation and those looking to claim the national championship buckle for the very first time and the number one ranked bull rider in Australia mccoi leard dominating one more time come night two only two could win the championship the PBR starts now and Aaron clly didn’t want to be denied for a second-year running oh he is the first man to ride three balls this weekend McCauley leather looked to do the same in round three but came up short this is mcau leather the number one ball rider in the country oh and whilst the championship Was a Race in two there was another with his eye on the Grand Final event gold buckle he’s ridden two already no let’s make a three the highest score of the weekend 87 points Brady Fielder leading the event after three rounds but none of our big three managed to cover their balls in round four so it would come down to the Monster Energy Championship round first to go would be our series leader McCauley leather I’m sorry for partying Boss Hog If he rides this ball he could be the next PBR Australian champion and this is a rank pen of bucking bulls any which way you look at it the number one bull ride up for 2023 coming down that meant one more shot for Aaron cly to try and make history by claiming five championship titles the number two bull rider Aaron cire and Fiddler Industries pretty boy has never been ridden can he be the first and the Canam clock says 6.91 seconds the championship decided mcau a maiden winner meanwhile Brady Fielder put an exclamation mark on Bulls and our first round in scone is no different with some of the best from the grand finals also bucking out over the two nights at White Park contractors arriving with their stock in Peak condition our Riders hoped They too had done enough in the off season to prepare for these opening rounds the task seems simple get on and hold on but let’s have a look at what makes an 8sec ride count and score in the PBR bull riding the toughest sport on good dirt how is it scored first the basics the athlete must stay on the bull for 8 seconds the clock starts when the Bull’s shoulders or hips have cleared the shoot the athlete must ride with only one hand gripping the bull rope the clock will stop when the rider loses his grip from the bull rope or any part of his body hits the ground before 8sec ride is over will result in a no score if he touches the bll or any any part of his own body with the free hand or arm before the 8-second ride is over the rider is disqualified the athletes ride in the Bull’s performance are judged separately officials score the bll on how hard the bull bucks and how high he kicks power speed Spin and Direction Change athletes are scored by their control Rhythm and how they match movement with the bow while spurring the bow is not required if a rider wants to earn extra points they can do so by pulling their leg away from the bull to demonstrate control there are a total of 100 points available for a qualified ride that is 50 points for the rider and 50 points for the bull an average score will be in the 80s where an exceptional ride will be in the ’90s judges will award a re-ride if the bull underperforms and the score is less than 80 the athlete with the highest point total from the entire event becomes the event winner competing in scone 20 s years of age and boy he’s felt the force that time it was Nemesis Main’s biking bulls that Bulls only ever been written once he was written last year back in September Dugen long year scone New South Wales hosting the first event where bull riders of all ages have come together all with the same dream of making a name for themselves in the toughest sport on dirt the ultimate goal a ticket to the US where big money awaits you know from our perspective we’re we’re just the pathway into the us so we feed our guys into the Unleash the Beast and the velocity tour in the United States and now with the new teams deal there Al also you know another pathway for those guys to ride for another $13 million odd uh so there’s there’s some great opportunities there but we’re also sort of focusing on our Canam Junior Academy uh this is where we sort of cater for kids from page 7 to 18 um and you know we’re just trying to break them into the sport get them mentored by the better rid and and stuff like that and you know other nutritionists and and trainers and and sort of let them know what it takes to be you know a champion buider in their career you know and if we can get into them at this age and get them in front of the camera teach them all about media and and stuff like that teach them about the business you know uh it’s very important to get these guys sort of in the right direction early it’s not just about these kids riding you know I see this as a succession plan for our industry too you know because they got siblings and and partners that come and watch them so I want to get them integrated into you know announcing what we’re doing with Bo cosgro and judging and and you know doing the shows I mean I guess my big goal is I want to see these kids produce their own Grand finals and uh you know hopefully we can get that achieved by 2025 Bo Cosgrove is one of those honing his skills under this world first initiative by PBR Australia we had radios and watch him and he probably last 6 and 1 half seconds but when I was a little kid like um we used to be at a radio I used to say but him daddy ride him daddy r r bu him everyone thought I was swearing at the point and well yeah that’s how I got into it and yeah just fell love with it clearly passionate about the sport he remembers getting the call for the first time Glen Glen young was on the phone and I was just like hello who’s this and stuff and what you really don’t want to find and he’s like Le Glen young the co of the PBR my face is slid up like firewor like what in the world and he basically asks me to get on the ball and I’m up in tears my mom made up in tears and basically it was 100 me walk to get to the C draft and I’m walking all the way there ground tell my dad end of the year he’s like B do you want to do some dance and I’m just like hell yeah or anything they B fighting except for B fighting well that’s that’s a of the question won’t do that but bull fighting maybe not but Bo has been on the back of more than one of these brutes are you ready to watch Bo Cosgrove live his dream you go to Tam or get on him big ons very cute but you still got that danger and Junior Academy Grand finals in 10th last year went amazingly well and we got him back here this weekend and we’re going to keep utilizing as our Junior commentator with the likes of Glenn Morgan and Warren mtic and whoever else announces as well so um you know for me personally I see that as a big part of our industry and and that’s something that we really need to focus on is you know sort of I guess nurturing these kids through in all aspects of the sport not just the writing aspect but also the business and the cameramen and and everything like that there’s so much opportunity here for them our Junior Riders put on a brilliant show past champions and some of the best senior riders in the country on the back of the shoots helping guide them along PB has created this Junior Academy to help bring them along and show them the way you know get them used to the the bright lights of the PBR and um I think it’s a great great environment for for them to learn on you know appropriate bulls that uh you know should suit their levels one who came through the rising star ranks and hoping to kick off 2024 in style Toby hail never really had a lot to do with PBR until I done the rising stars that was pretty cool deal and done that and then done a years rod on and then I just kind of want to get it simple and just ride Bulls kind of all the time so that’s when I come here and thought it against our top 18 riders for one last Showdown any of our six Leading Men can take out the event win but with $20,000 prize money to be shared out amongst those who score there was more than enough incentive for everyone in the field to do their best first man out a representative of not only a small town in Northern Australia called normanson but also of first nation’s athletes 20 years of age Eli Toby will walk away from scone without a score a tough break after traveling so far second to go is Dan Ruland on haunted from Mount Walker of Queensland a third year on the professional bull riding tour 22 years young the bullet is drawn from the lazy G bucking bulls in conjunction with Potter partnership this is haunted he’s been out five times as only ever been ritten once by Cody heon
