the former Manchester United Captain Ashley Young and title winner is with us as well Ashley um there’ve been some lows for Manchester United does this feel like a new one you can see the the the Manchester United fans there’s a little bit of anger on some of those faces as you’d expect yeah of course there is and rightly so as well I think that you know them fans obviously traveling on a Monday night you know they’re disappointed but they’re still singing they’re still singing in numbers they’re still there in their numbers it’s unbelievable isn’t it it’s pretty defiant actually isn’t it when you when you see that that group of fans they’ve been through a lot this year United listen most teams way support is fantastic they go on the road they pay the money that that is absolutely fantastic for Manchester United fans because you know what those players do not deserve that and if they go off thinking it wasn’t as bad as we think cuz look at the supporters reaction look at that that is unbelievable support from those those Lads is that a reminder actually of what that Club Manchester United that you know so well is all about yeah of course it is it’s the fans are they’re fantastic all the time and you know where there’s been difficult periods and difficult times they’ve always stuck by and like you say you look at the display tonight from that Manchester United Team you probably would have thought most of these fans would have left the ground already but they’re not they’re still there they’re still singing and you know for them to to be there it’s what the what the club’s about what the fans are about and they want to see much much more than this but tonight they were blown away Jamie by Crystal Palace just how good were they brilliant absolutely fantastic in E and Alise they’ve got two players with walk into to that Manchester United Team they were fantastic and also the setup of glas we’ll look at that later on as well that that back five the two in front and then the three really tough to break down it wasn’t just Manchester United defending badly they never look like scoring now that can come down to themselves but the actual setup of this manager how organized he he’s made them I it looks like a great appointment they’re having a brilliant end to the season and hopefully for them they take that into next season and the inquest goes on for those Manchester United players Anthony I think was first to be stituted seems to be going into a lot of detail with uh Mason Mount about something he’s not happy with just get off the pitch I mean talking Whispering behind your hands you being absolutely awful he’s probably talking about one of the players or somebody else or the setup or the manager just get off the pick shut up and get in you’ve been beat 4-n whispering and talking about other players honestly embarrassing Manchester United’s heaviest defeat of this season Crystal palace’s biggest win of this season four wins in five games for them now their best run of form in terms of points taken 13 from the last five games for six years but still there’re in 14th Place uh what could they achieve well potentially they could finish the season in the top half but maybe I think Palace fans now more looking towards next season what might be possible under Oliver glasner and here are Manchester United then with three games to go as I said Arsenal uh then Newcastle United at home and then brighten away in those three games is there a real possibility right now Ashley that Manchester United will miss out on European football next season yeah definitely if they put on displays like they have shown tonight I think they will miss out like you say the games they’ve got coming up they’re not easy games and if if if they’re not willing to at least run about then they’re going to be in trouble and they will miss out on a European play even with all those injuries tonight have you shocked by the level of performance um no not really because I think it’s it’s been an up and down season that like I said there’s there’s been games where you thought right the man united of old have come back but then you look at like tonight there there’s just too many players there that just were not at the right level for for this game and you know you’ve got to give credit to Crystal Palace as well because they were they were fantastic from the start and they just made it look like men against boys we we’ve seen that a lot let’s don’t forget about this you know even though last season on the whole was are successful you You’ seen them lose seven at at Liverpool they lost four at brenford he lost six at Manchester City that that score should have happened at brenford don’t forget talk about 4-0 here obviously awful result awful performance but we’ve seen that a lot this season and a lot of the times man united have got away with it in terms of the keeper making saves he didn’t tonight but in terms of you know opposition missing chances as I said it could have been four or five at brenford a few weeks ago the inquest the analysis will continue in a few moments time let’s show you the match fact 18 shots they had to face from Crystal Palace 10 of which were on target it’s the fourth time this season they faced 10 or more shots on target the expected goals figure might be surprisingly low from Crystal Palace it’s one of those nights where uh a lot that they hit did go in past andrean Nana but their own figure of .35 uh is the second lowest they’ve had in a game this season the lowest was against Manchester City Ashley Young with us former Manchester United Captain is this really as as bad as it gets if you’re a Manchester United player yeah I think so I I do believe so after after tonight’s performance and you know after the first goal goes in you think okay there’s you know a bit of impetus to get out there and you know get back in the game but it wasn’t that at all you you come out halim they come out early you think right okay there must have been addressing telling off and addressing down in the in the dress room but then they just looked like Palace just grew and grew even more into the game and there was just nothing from Manchester United tonight there is so much quality with these two Lads Alis and E with them playing like that Jamie that’s five straight wins than when they’ve started together for Crystal Palace can they hurt any team never mind a Manchester United side who really are there for the taking tonight any team and you know you look at the performance last night U tonight for the two of them and I think they could almost play for anyone you know in this league I really do do and there was talk actually Manchester United you know Alisa being their top Target for the summon you could understand why uh I was actually thinking then in terms of Crystal Palace he always used to go to H wford zaha and he was always done we spoke about when he was missing what the result when he played and he was fantastic for Crystal Palace maybe the best play they’ve had in the Premier League era I actually think these two are better maybe haven’t had the longevity of Zahara Chrystal Palace and that is the next key question will he have that longevity because if Crystal Palace want to go through being that they’re almost the typical mid-table Club they always got the same amount of points finishing between 10th and 15th as we said and listen that’s a success story on its own but if they want to go forward a little bit and I understand the nature of the club they bring players in for cheap like these two players from lower league and sell for big money they can’t afford to lose both of them they might in the summer a really big bit bid and they go again in the lower leagues if they’ve still got dougy fredman who was an absolute master of buying players in the lower leagues we’ve seen that with Warton from black ban but these two are two superstars and I hope I hope they both stay I do because it’s a big test for the football club now they have as Jamie said earlier a manager with real pedigree who’s won European trophies who’s probably kind to challenge the club himself and say what can we do next year how can we kick on and surely the test has got to be can you keep these two talents at the football club I think that’s the main thing for for the maner he wants to keep the the two best talents at the football club and that’s going to be massive come this this summer you keep them and then obviously he’s going to start to look for next season and look to see where Crystal Palace can actually get to how high in the table they can get to are they just going to be happy with just being a mid-table team like I say the man one European competition he’s going to want to see Crystal Palace getting getting up there and with these two players in the team you know it’s Finly important that he holds on to them we’re talking about the from the point of view of Crystal Palace and their supporters in the club but also as as individuals you’ve known us yourself Ash when you end up getting to Manchester United where you start off at Watford but even you love the club and you’re playing well you want to progress these are two players who can play Champions League football or certainly European football without a doubt and they’re going to want to do that it might be hard for them to do that at Krystal Palace so the the the players’s uh intentions will be as important as the clubs really and you couldn’t be moan if one of them wanted to move on if they get a big offer from a club in the Champions League day humble the message from Oliver glasner but celebrate when you get the chance certainly when you’ve taken a big scalp like Manchester United when you’ve just done the double over them uh for the first time as well and in such spectacular fashion too and yes a lot will be made of the Manchester United injuries missing 10 first team players tonight probably five or six that would have walked into that United starting 11 this season uh this evening but also think about that Crystal Palace side as well with Nathaniel kleene with Chris Phillips with probably will Hughes as well players who haven’t really been week in week out starters for Crystal Palace no one will talk about that because this team is is really coming together under glasner yeah and that’s what a manager does we’ be talking about the bounce of a manager he’s coming first couple of games maybe getting used to the system but what they’re doing now you know is is fantastic and the respect they’ll have for the manager you said before he’s come up come in as a European winner so what whatever he says those players will be taken on board they won’t be questioning it because of the CV he’s got well he’s come out fighting hasn’t he Eric tenh is it a bigger problem than the coach right now Ashley I think obviously a lot is going to be said about the manager and and what he’s what he’s been doing I think the players themselves with a performance like tonight with the season how it’s been going they’ve got to stand up and and take and be counted really because it’s it’s on them to go out on the pitch and and what’s the minimum requirement when you’re playing for Manchester United to work hard for the badge to run for the badge you know the fans expect teams to go and play exciting and tacking football and you’re just not seeing it it’s just not with the group of players that are available right now we’re changing the coach now or in the summer achieve anything this is this is one of the most poorly coached teams in the Premier League that’s a fact that’s not an opinion that’s a fact the numbers tell you that when you see them bottom of the league defensively lower than he say again his whole back liner has been unavailable no listen I get that I totally understand that and your performance level will drop and your results will not be as good when you miss your best players that is the most obvious thing to say but I’ve said this for a while with Eric tenh that it’s almost the opposite of what you’d say with most manager you say he needs a result Eric tenh needs performances he needs a belief that we okay we know we’re struggling we’re losing players it’s not a great time the structure of the club is not right we get all that but you’ve got to make us believe there’s something here we’re W to something okay you might I I struggle to see how United will win tonight I said that to you before the game but I thought Palace might win one nil 2-1 tight game but they they just get over the line no Manchester United Team should be getting beat 4-0 by Crystal Palace Manchester United’s under 23 team if they are at Manchester United and they’ve come through their Academy they’ve been coached and teached and taught to play and played in that game I’d still expecting not to lose 40 it’s just it is and I’ve never been a coach you’re a manager but I’ve been a player and I’ve been coached by some top coaches and some of the things I see are just wrong let’s have a look at the the things you might be talking about then it seemed like Eric tag himself was um pretty unhappy with what he saw from the sideline in terms of his own teams defending yeah in his interview there he said something about on the left about five players now I’m not I’m not sure if he’s talking about the back four and Mayu in front or the actual almost like five players around here so we’re not sure exactly what it means means but when I say some things are wrong that is wrong and even though I’ve never managed or coached a team in my life I would argue night and day with Eric tag that is wrong because there’s no way in the world that ball will ever go there so Erikson’s got to come in here to protect his Defenders and if the ball does go there he by the time the ball’s thrown he can get there that is wrong now Mayu goes in front now of course what is Juan Baka doing there just doing nothing he could easily go in there and Mayu could go in there but again leadership organization again no one taking responsibility and then Erikson just gets thrown to the floor Casmir is just a joke hasn’t he tonight I mean how does he run that far without anybody getting near them are there any Basics just stop it there please Jamie are there any Basics Ashley you’re playing at left back say or left wing back as you have done so many times when you’re facing a throw in on that side in terms of defensive setup you’re expecting to to be set up and have a setup in this position whether the five boys further forward you’re expecting to to communicate get them back in if they Crystal Palace throw the ball backwards then you can get up the pitch they’re not going to harm you here but when you vacate this big space it’s like I it’s just crazy to to leave that much space where you know they want to throw it into and people are not Market people are not talking he’s a young player he thinks he’s doing a good job he’s trying to protect he’s trying to help you’ve got ju bak and Johnny Evans really experienced players they’ve got to be telling him to go away what is Juan Baka doing there now a throw in down the line we always know what you do someone gets in front someone gets behind you block the ball going into the feet so he can he’s an Easy Pass back to the thrower so you try and Pen them in I mean mayu’s listen he’s in a does it’s not a great position and he thinks he’s trying to help there’s two experienced players there they’ve got to help him tell him to move and waka’s got to get involved it’s lovely footwork though from that point Ashley oh it is and you know as soon as Elisa gets it to Fe he knows exactly what he wants to do he knows casemiro is coming he’s going to do some quick feet and then he’s going to start opening up and driving towards the box to be honest I think Johnny and Dogo delot leave too much of a gap there for Alis to to exploit and you know he exploits it magnificently well I mean there’s something I’ve got to point out on this goal and and I know people will think maybe I’m just pointing the finger but Casmir obviously gets done really poor challenge just keep an eye on amiro here so he’s by the referee now he’s running back obviously it’s gone past him I just wanted to see his reaction when the goal goes in he actually looks like he’s blaming somebody else just keep an eye on him so the ball goes in it’s Paul from you know four or five players look at him putting his arms out I doow Evans he then I mean look at the screen he’s looking at the bench I mean I just want to point something else out on this goal as well Jamie if we see this run through let’s take it to the Crystal Palace crowd yeah yeah we saw this this is a great reaction you see the reaction you need to do the closeup and she is going to have the best Tik Tok in the morning roll it on look at the [Applause] reaction that’s stward a man you fan in it let’s have a look at the second goal cuz it got worth before half time two Ashley was absolutely fantastic from Crystal Palace wasn’t it you know the Finish Mata the form he’s in it was it definitely was and the way they just show it to one side e goes out to the ball Will Hughes knows to to come out Richard steps in as well they’re they’re putting numbers around the ball to get get the ball back and then it’s that forward pass straight away you know when we talk about the new manager Ash is this something you notice in terms of the Defenders jumping and being aggressive we we highlighted that before the game you’ve mentioned MIT Mitchell and Richards as the same yeah I think that’s what it I think the manager’s been working on it from from the back line you step out and you try and win that ball and if you win that ball then you’ve got the boys up front to to pass it straight into to them they’re not standing on the last line they’re standing off them to give them time to turn and turn and run out the defense just like Mata does here and the finishes you know sublim it’s a great strike but should Anana be saving this yeah I mean listen he does catch it really well maybe sometimes a goalkeeper takes a step onto his left foot cuz he’s expecting it to go across him maybe there’s something in that I think I think this is definitely one that you’d maybe I think you look at the Finish it’s an unbelievable strike the goalkeeper should do better but I think for me the form this lad’s in the confidence he’s showing and that’s again down to him but also the manager the belief he’s putting in and that is a really fearsome front three right now scored in six consecutive games at sellur Park breaking his own record that he said last time out so halim Manchester United it was a really quick team talk we showed you that um but the response was actually from Crystal Palace just when we thought Manchester United might push on and try and get back in the game well we did think that obviously them coming out early in the second half and thinking right the first half is now gone it’s time for us to to step out they play a quick short corner and you see the ball gets played back out to won he puts the ball back in as a Defender here you you’ve got to work out that the ball’s going over your head to then get back into the box just in case dieo loses it at the back post and it comes across the across the goal none of the man united players react to it I think Casmir is the closest one to it and like we said he’s had a night to forget and Mitchell just gets in front of him makes him fre now is that just because they don’t have Casmir might not have that defensive Instinct in those moments he a hold Midfield player there I’m trying to find reasons I think that’s the thing he’s obviously he’s been deployed as a a center half and you want him to the look there just just says it oh you want him there to be be able to work out what’s going to be behind him but you know he he doesn’t see it he doesn’t see Mitchell I don’t think any of the other man united players see the the second Ball’s going to come back across the goal and I how they get the next goal it gets really ugly at four doesn’t it Jamie it does yeah but deservedly so I mean from Crystal palace’s point of view they look at this as I mean it’s great football it is a great goal I mean that again has got nothing to do with playing Center back and it listen he’s caught it really well but again that football talk about being direct but quality football what into sort of Third Man Runner I mean what he’s doing I mean that’s I can’t even say feel sorry for him I mean you said to me should the keeper save it I think he should head it it’s in the middle of the goal it it’s unbelievable this go is he unsighted no no no that should not go in that that is listen it’s a you’ll look at that as a great goal but that should not go in and I said at half time he’s got to bring casemiro off now I know he’s got kids on the bench but I think casemiro deadly series should know himself tonight as an experienced player that he should only have another three games left at the top level the next two League games in a cup final and then he should be thinking I need to go to the MLS or Saudi I’m deadly serious is as agent or the people around and they always have a you know a team of people around them they need to tell him this has to stop because we are watching one of the greatest of the modern time playing in one of the best midfields we’ve seen who dominated Europe him holding Cru to one side modri to the other was one of the best midfields could could easily go up against the the Barcelona Midfield that we all loved of busc shevy inesta so he’s been an absolute great I am nowhere near on a level of what that man has achieved Champions League playing for Brazil playing for Real Madrid but I always remember something when I retired myself and there was a saying I always remember as a footballer leave the football before the football leaves you the football’s left him at this top level he needs to call it a day at this level of football and move might be easier said than done though because he still has two years left on a really Hefty contract at Old Trafford I’m say right the right few good luck to him he’s made a few qu not going to go anywhere without being paid off they pay him off they do they did some sort of deal but the level of that player he should not put be putting himself through this he is too good of a player to be putting in a performance like that and being laughter by Crystal Palace he’s not playing Man City he’s not playing Real Madrid all due respect to Crystal Palace a man of that level should not be going through what he’s going through now when he needs to call her a day we know behind the scenes Ashley that there is a lot going on at Manchester United there is a huge turnover of personnel there are some of those changes have been made some are going to come into effect in the summer and maybe even beyond that in terms of of Dan Dan Ashworth coming from from Newcastle United Jason Wilcox already there when they are looking at this period for Manchester United and wondering what it is that takes them forward how do you think they’re going to be reflecting on this period in Manchester United season under Eric tenh I think they be looking and thinking the disappointment you not seeing too many green on on the screen with WIS you see SE plenty of draws and you know two losses there but but a lot of goals conceded as well so many goals conceded and that’s where you know you need to start is is stop conceding goals and I think they’re going to come in and you know be pretty much rubbing their hands together to to know that they can’t do a worse job than what’s been going on um I think they’re going to have so much you know knowhow and you know see the squad and see what they’ve been looking at in the last you know month few months to see what they need to come in and come in and change and it it’s been for for years now that things have needed to change from I say the top and hopefully now that the new owners are coming in things are things are going to start changing but like I said when you when you’re a player in that dressing room you got to look at yourself and and not have everything be put on the manager because you’re the ones that go out there and play i’ I’ve been talking about the missing out on Europe uh for I think the second time in since Alex Ferguson uh left the club as if it’s a terrible thing if they finish eth and they miss out regardless of who the coaches could it actually be a blessing Jamie I think be better for them if they miss out because they won’t have as many games they can cut the squad they need to get people off the wage but casiro and veran have got to go and then you go with a smaller Squad and you s almost try and build something it gives you more coaching time whoever the coaches you don’t get bugged down with that Thursday Sunday and then you say okay this season we’re going for Europa League or try and push for the champion thing people might laugh at that but Manchester United have got to be pushing for the Champions League every year they’ll spend again in the summit maybe as not as much as they normally do because of a PSR but I said before about Manchester United fans you need to believe something so it’s not just about results it’s the performance I another big thing for managers in this day and age with the digital we that we’re living in is their interviews now before the game the manager spoke about things improving in 2024 they’re not they’re not so you look at that run of results there are terrific do you see any scenario then when he stays yeah I do see a scenario where he stays because I actually think there’s that much change behind the scenes now with Dan Ash Jason will kicks almost trying to fix the structure what new managers want going to want to come in to to coach that team and also if they can’t actually change too much in terms of money wise in the summer but listen Manchester United could get almost any manager they want because the’re Manchester United one of the biggest and best football clubs in the world but I said before the one of the worst coach teams in the league who I watch and I watch a lot of these teams I watch a lot of football analyzer for this show and they are as bad as anything and if he is to stay I think it because they don’t actually want to bring a new manager in with the situation with the club is right now because if he was to lose his job I don’t think he could have any complaints [Music] [Music] [Applause]
