one right now yeah if you show up with golf balls that have your face on it that’s automatically a point yeah I have one with my feet on it too which is weird but two points but you didn’t bring those so that’s right I lost it in the sun similar shot same thing all right let me give it a crap I lost it in the sun now I can’t really see it where did it go just a right of the green nope thin to wind that’s bad oh I’m over the GRE another one another one but I’m over the green too yeah but hit another one I don’t know maybe this is too maybe all right let me hit my first ever sun is shining sun is shining the birds are chirping and there’s an old man nude on his balcony staring at us down there n terrible too that’s way over all right well we got point we got a chancef for points for some up and down yeah we need some up and down we need we need some up and down swing of the day a little hard on the old back my dad is a terrible golfer loves it lovely man but really atrocious and he spent 30 years getting worse somehow which is amazing but I when I was a kid when I was a teenager I like tried and then didn’t really keep up with it you know we’ play once in a while but I didn’t really get into it until my late 20s early 30s then I kind of like really played I played knock around munies and stuff like that so I didn’t fall in love with it until I got older and then what about it when you got older did you love about it um you know honestly like uh I really like frustrating myself life isn’t hard enough and I was like how can I make it a little bit harder a little bit more annoing golf golf no you know what it really is I’m 40 and I you can’t play anything else I can’t play basketball I’m not going to be someone who gets like a you know I’m not going to like tear an ACL right I can’t show up to the comedy club with like a torn like hobbling up to the mic this isn’t this is hard enough on the body I was going to say it’s golf or pickle ball but I’m pretty sure Bernard Langer like Tores ACL playing pickle ball playing pickle ball yeah no don’t play pickle ball we have no I think these are movements humans have never made golf is already forign enough pickle ball is another like this whole thing and people who are 70 are like it’s no big deal there it’s like the most injuries ever in the ER from pickle ball right exact not good it’s not good stick to golf everybody stick to golf I think I went OB I think we were really off on the I oh there oh yeah there’s one in the bunker okay you want to see what I can do out of this little bunker up and down for a point well it’s a wet and it’s tight Jesus I’ve got almost no swing path but we’ll be all right wow roll out stay there oh now usually you’re supposed to rake um we have people for that oh there is a rake there no let’s do the right thing for Golf Digest I don’t want people at home to think I don’t rake you know what I mean people will start being like he’s so Hollywood he doesn’t rake his own bunkers said he doesn’t like public golf courses yeah uh-oh someone’s getting it closer than me somebody’s closer all right you’re putting it out anyway don’t think I’m going to give that to you those are actually very difficult butts we have left yeah there’s no gimmies in this game by the way no gimmies this is very serious Okay so we’ve established you’re a very Avid golfer love golf but you do so many things Andrew stand up Podcast acting where does golf fit into all of that well I’m not good at those other things but I’m pretty good at golf so that’s kind priority yeah I’m a bad actor and bad at podcasting and standup but golf is such a fun fun game you know golf I do on my days when I’m not working um I try to sneak out and then if I’m on the road I’ll bring a I’ll bring my bag so if you are working you also sneak out but you know what’s so funny I brought the bag on the road and I’ve still not been able to golf but I do it as a just in case if I’ve got like a day down and I think like oh I could sneak but it’s happened multiple times where I brought my sticks and not been able to play which is a bummer but it’s you know it’s worth it to try it’s worth the try yeah you got to be ready if the opportunity arises I know I’m away but you it’s actually six and one half doz the other I want you to go first oh my God you love to see it wow I thought that was going to be negative one point NE negative one negative one point I take one away no but if you make that no go ahead and put that out oh I’m going to put and if you make that I’ll give you the point back plus one okay okay two points yours didn’t move did it it did not move I hit it a little bit too hard though beautiful up and down just a just an Allstar Pro up and down there well what are you going to do you know we’ll be taking the best Drive let’s talk comedy yeah you know not to not to flex here but I did take a standup class over Zoom during Co so you know just comedian to comedian I’m curious when when did you know that that you were funny I used to tell my little sister who nine year or eight years difference in age I used to say that um she was found on the side of the road we we found her and I would tell it to her every day really for years it really ruined our family yeah it was funny very funny and that’s when you knew I knew I knew I was a rambunctious lunatic little goofball and I knew that um making people laugh was a defense mechanism also a way to break up awkwardness I like figured it out so being funny was like you know by solution to all my problems oh okay all right well it’s worked out pretty well for you no it’s been okay it’s not bad I can’t complain you know it’s interesting cuz in golf right at the top level you’ve got pros that have so much Raw Talent and you’ve got other Pros that just have to grind and really find the secret in the dirt so can you tell me a little bit about the grind of standup yeah I think what’s funny is like people don’t know you spend I mean you know for me 17 years you know hustling until someone’s like you made it overnight so to speak or you know you finally I saw your special and you know they think you just kind of put it together but it takes so long you got to go to you know bar shows and drive all over Southern California or all over New York or wherever you’re you you know starting out and you’ve got to perform as much as you can seven nights a week I mean you can’t really turn it off if you really want to grow and succeed I mean it’s literally we call it like working out when we go to the club at night and it’s literally going to the gym it’s you know you have to just keep going to the gym and get get better and better and better and better until you know you kind of find your groove but even still I’m 40 years old and I’m 17 years in and I still get up four nights a week sometimes more depending on what I’m working on you’re still going to the gym I’m still going to the gym I mean it doesn’t look like it but I’m going to the verbal gym the verbal gym yeah I’m going to the verbal gym a lot you got to keep progressing because that’s the only way to keep getting better and better right all right just like golf just like golf oh my God you got to go to the range you got to go I’m going to call the comedy club the range now I got to go to the range I got to go to the range tonight that’s right I got to range it up all right so what’s going on Whose Drive is this I believe it is yours sir interesting I guess 125 I say 2 okay it’s pretty significantly uphill actually yeah I’d say like 135 maybe you think so I think so okay you want me to go yeah you can go cut over fade back baby oh I’m shy wow it plays way short caught it nice caught it see that looks much better well this isn’t going to bode well for me let’s hope I pick it up on the back oh we’re only playing three holes only playing three holes that’s fine so back to our Golf and comedy an alergies you know in golf you can’t have a perfect round right there’s always a putt that could have gone in or a fairway that you should have hit etc etc have you ever had a perfect set like you just walked off stage and you were like nailed it no you know what’s so funny is like uh you you have moments of like feeling phenomenal like everything was moving in Rhythm and it was fluid and um everything kind of was seamless but there was always going to be like one little piece of like I didn’t like the way that that transition happened so that’s again these similarities of like some days you’re just not it’s just there’s like one thing that’s missing but other things are working so well like your putting is great but your you know your your midiron game is all over the place comedy’s the exact same where I’ve never had a perfect set well how do you get yourself in the mindset though if we’re again just going to harp on this on these analogies yeah I like the analogies if if the Masters is the equivalent of a Netflix special and you know that you’ve got that coming up what are you doing to prepare for your Masters I mean honestly uh going to the range go to the range go to the range go to the range as soon as you’re like oh God why are they laughing at this crap then it’s like you got to film it you got to get rid of it because at some point you said it so much you’re like tired of it you know like you can’t you can only work on so much of your golf game before you’re like kind of then you start to overthink it right and you’re like some some of it has to be natural and loose and free that’s so interesting so you have to think about you don’t want to run it to a point where like you’re faking the enthusiasm of telling the jokes because I think audien are so smart these days like they can tell when you’re bored of it uh because they they’re so privy to the process that they’re like he doesn’t even look like he’s having fun anymore sit too much okay that’s okay we’ll take that’s not bad I mean very putt but that was that was well executed very tricky putt oh thanks for the enthusiasm very tricky putt good luck with that not a great not a great CH good good chip for you I suppose terrible leave but yeah you know what I’m going to do I’m actually going to uh not mark my ball I want to see you putt with it there oh little sty action yeah just a little sty action just to see how I don’t know positioning I was not forthcoming with the information to you yeah and you know we talked about this in the par lot you can’t keep doing this let me hit my three wood for fun and then wonderful and would know how to mock the game in such a poetic way okay right he’ll be our color guy as it were and then uh out on the field um out in out on the course I think I would want somebody Let’s do an a lot let’s do someone that’s still with us i’ I’d want somebody like um maybe Sebastian man Scout what are you doing with that drive though yeah you push it off into the bushes I’d love Sebastian out there on the field I need a feed PG Tour live yeah what are you guys waiting for give that guy give that guy let him just walk around he just recently got into golf yeah I know we had him on the show yeah he’s amazing he showed up with a uh with a tour bag and he was like is this not a thing and I was like not a thing not a thing at all or Bill Burr Bill Burr’s kind of gotten into golf a little bit but he’d be good out there just to you know what are you doing what dude dude you can’t you can’t pick it up put it out come on dude so this is this is not bad and it’s oh and there’s the oh I get it I get it wow that’s deep this is a part five yep but there’s so much trouble on the left okay so now I want you to pretend in our in our broadcast situation yeah you got to commentate yourself over the shot oh easy okay he’s going to pull out the the three wood it’s a foolish Endeavor he should lay up shouldn’t he but he doesn’t care what’s the difference dude how many times you get to golf first sing in the morning without going to the range of practicing a warming up with your friend hie almost never almost it’s for Golf Digest it’s above my feet it’s definitely going to hit one of those trees there’s no doubt in my mind but let’s see how it goes he’s just got to have a nice confident smooth swing again he should lay up ladies and gentlemen there’s no doubt this man should lay up he does not have this skill shot in his bag but he’s going to go right over that tree hope it has enough Loft to land softly and um the rest is going to be history see turn it it all right so speaking of golf broadcast I’ve seen you attend live tour events I’ve seen you attend PJ tour events curious to get your take on the the the golf landscape at the moment I mean look it’s uh it’s all over the place I think the PGA um felt the pressure to like keep up with the times and change a little bit I think young people are wanting to get into the game and get more interested and they got to keep it a little bit you know more exciting and it’s tough and Liv kind of popped out of nowhere and took some of the most dynamic fun watchable players and now with this potential merger I guess we’ll see what that yields but I think both have so much value I like the tradition of the PGA I love tradition in golf but I also think you have to keep up with the times times are changing so things can’t stay the same so whatever that means to the future of both of these things whether they do come together in the end um I think it’s important to make sure that these guys get to play in whatever Majors they want to play in because you don’t want to I mean why would you lose all that viewership um but I think they both offer great things and also have both have dament I mean truly the Liv Liv’s got some stuff that they need to really work on and so does the PGA I think this might be the tell or the Catalyst to like make golf fun watchable promotable for young people so the game can grow and also you know it’s exciting competition’s good yeah I nobody likes a monopoly I well I agree I think when people a lot of times people say this is bad for the game this bad for the game I’m like I don’t think we know what this is just yet we’re in the middle of it right now yeah we’re in the mix we’ll we’ll see and also everyone’s making changes the NBA did an inseason tournament everyone’s trying to elevate the game and make it more uh fun and unique and different and add stuff to to to really engage the youth and and let the Game grow organically again golf is a traditional sport but nothing’s going to stay the same you got to keep you got to keep changing it and hoping you know that it grows organically with with young people so that they can be the future of it also um for bifurcation don’t make amateurs use flighted down balls that’s ridiculous let the pros use flight of down balls we should get to use the same balls we’ve been using love we need the help okay oh perfect let’s go okay I’m on we have the same distance what do you have uh 83 how far 60 60 I eyeballed it and then I was corrected it’s 60 yards nice get up 60 sounds right ehy yeah it’s definitely 60 not 83 that’s got to go trundle forward all right it’s all right surface so professional golf aside is there anything that you would change about just the game in general that the game that you and I play every day um you know no not really I mean I don’t love some place let you do like five sums and six sums not a fan okay stick to four stick to four I agree age and if you have too many people just break it up do threes and threes or do like uh you know or or do and you can switch right you can switch groups after the nine Fair like that big ball tournaments I don’t know but other than that no I love it so I mean you know for me it’s more about getting more rounds in um how can I get more rounds in quicker I like that they you know they try to like leave the pin in and stuff like that if it’s a slow day stuff like that yeah or like pick it up you know be cognizant of the people you’re playing with that kind of thing but I think golf is pretty good I don’t I don’t know you don’t need to touch much about it I think it’s pretty money like this putt that you’re going to help read seven seven this is for Five Points right here Santino seven to seven
